Light on story, this 1966 spectacle directed by John Frankenheimer was shot in 70 millimeter, with a cinematically enthralling emphasis on unique, visceral new ways of capturing the sensations of a car race. James Garner, Eva Marie Saint, Yves Montand, and Toshiro Mifune are part of the stellar, international cast whose characters plod through assorted relationship and business conflicts. But the film's real hook is the thrilling and inventive means by which Frankenheimer (<I>The Manchurian Candidate</I>) brings an urgency to the drama happening on the racetrack. A true master of the plastic techniques of obtaining and cutting kinetic footage, Frankenheimer offers more than a joyride to viewers: he makes action part of the compelling language of stories. Cameras are strapped to vehicles as they round the track, shots are taken from a helicopter, the screen is split between angles for maximum impact--even if <I>Grand Prix</I> doesn't rank among the director's best character-driven stories, it is certainly driven on its own terms. <I>--Tom Keogh</I>
<b>On the DVD</b>
The much-anticipated release on DVD does not disappoint, with a pristine restored print and upgraded 5.1 Dolby sound. Of course, the Cinerama film can only be fully appreciated if you sit <I>very close to your screen. The absence of a commentary track is forgivable, since director John Frankenheimer died in 2002. "Pushing the Limit" is your standard 30-minute retrospective with many new interviews with the stars and drivers. The universal opinion is that the film caught Formula One at the exact right time when the beauty of the sport was about to be changed in favor of safety and commercialism. There are some fascinating stories on how they were able to use real race footage so seamlessly. "Flat Out" continues the vibe of what racing was like in the '60s with more interviews from the real racers. "The Style and Sound of Speed" talks about designer Saul Bass and how he created the film's different approaches to each race and the cutting-edge use of montages and multiple screens. The vintage doc is kitschy but allows us to see the filming in action (the footage is used extensively in the new featurettes). <I>--Doug Thomas</I>

Spectacular footage.......2007-05-17
In hollywood today, this movie would have been made with big-budget visual effects, computer generated racing cars, fake scenery, etc. Watching this movie, I couldn't help but be in total awe of the racing footage captured. It's all real...no computer graphics. This is one amazing picture. I wish more movies were made this way rather than entirely in the computer.
It will never be surpassed. The best race movie ever........2007-05-16
This is one of those mysteries in the history of filmaking... However talented John Frankenheimer and the actors involved were / are, how could someone have imagined that a racing car movie made in 1966, I REPEAT, 1966, would still be, in 2007, head and shoulders bette than all the race movies ever made, before or after!!
Because "Grand Prix" is a master-piece. I will not talk about the amzaing camera angles, the perfect edition, the fact that the actor themselves drive the cars (F3 cars, it's true...), makin a montage with the actual race, the fact that the plot, altough simple, is engaging and makes you cheer for each one of the drivers.
No. I'll talk about the "feel" of the movie. It flows effortlessly, with class, energy, everything.
The best auto racing movie ever........2007-05-12
I first saw this movie in original release on the BIG screen. Since the invention of the DVD I have been waiting for Grand Prix.
The wait is finally over, and it was worth it.
Beautiful cinematography, a great score, and the cars, oh the cars.
Simply the best racing movie I have ever seen.......2007-04-30
A great balance between story line and racing footage, and the extra material is compelling
The Best Racing Movie Ever. Period........2007-04-26
The greatest racing film ever IMHO is John Frankenheimer's classic "Grand Prix". Nothing else comes close, not even "Le Mans". This is a must own for any race fan. But the movie is so well filmed and scored, with an interesting enough plot, that a non-race fan should enjoy the movie.
That is the sign of a well-made film. 40 years later, it's still fresh and vibrant.

Excellent, excellent, excellent.......2007-05-10
I really liked this movie because of the gay theme and positive story. There are many "mainstream" movies out there with gay characters that are not positive at all. This story shows the gay men in a positive way and doing something with purpose. What it also shows is how the military discharges men and women, and in this case men who are gay because they are gay. The main character was sick of "living a lie" within the military and came out. It was then that they discharged him. You can be hetrosexual and advertise it to everyone, but let someone say that they are gay and they are discharged from the military. Granted this is a B thriller movie, but in my book it is A+. I recommend everyone seeing this movie. If for nothing else, to see a gay positive movie that does have a happy ending.
Gay opening scenes in the US but not in other countries.......2007-02-19
Made for the gay Here! cable network, the opening scenes of Deadly Skies show the principal characters in a gay relationship that is then not referenced again as the drama unfolds. Other countries (Canada, UK) have a shorter film without the gay scenes. Like Dante's Cove on the same network, the gay scenes are, I guess, suppose to excuse the limited scope of the plot and the acting. Unfortunately they don't.
Gay...by the Way.......2007-02-14
"Deadly Skies"
Gay.....By the Way
Amos Lassen and Cinema Pride
I am not a fan of thriller movies but there was something about "Deadly Skies" that drew me to it (and I am not talking about a nude Anthony Sabato. Strangely constructed, this vie, is a slick science fiction drama that happens to have a gay hero who also happens to have a lover. But here is where the gay content lays---two brief scenes in a bedroom and several glossed over pieces of dialog. The fact that there are gay characters in the movie is purely incidental and certainly not central nor crucial to the story. Since the movie is not the kind that I usually enjoy, it is hard to be objective about it. The acting is good enough but the dialog and storyline are not much more than adequate. In other words, there is not much good or bad to say about it. It is just a movie that I would not rush out to see but if it were to be broadcast on TV, I would watch it with no problem.
A giant asteroid is heading toward the earth with the potential of being able to destroy it unless the logistics of it can be figured out. Rae Dawn Chong can figure this out but for some reason the government does not seem to want to hire her. Chong knows that her friend, played by Sabato, can save the planet. When she goes to speak with him, she finds him and his lover not only naked but in the middle of having sex. (It is a very mild scene). Why the movie had to have a gay sex scene, I really do not know because as I said before, nothing is much said about the gay characteristic of the film. I am not discounting the eye candy--it is great but I am not sure why it is even there.
One of the controversies of the film is that it has been released under three different names and in each the content (about the gay parts) is a little different. If you cannot find this movie as "Deadly Skies", look for it as "Ultimate Limit" or "Force of Impact".
In summary it is an anti-military paranoia film with a great deal of pacifistic self-righteousness. I enjoyed it as a brief getaway from life but when it was over, it was over.
a middling review.......2007-02-12
Well, I liked the story idea. Two meteors are heading towards Earth and one, the sneaky one hiding behind the first, is on a collision course with our Planet! Will anyone listen? No, of course not. Except one scientist who resigned from the military, coming out as a gay man in the process. Yes, there still isn't any place for a gay man in the service...but all is not lost, he will still have his chance to save the day. And the Earth. A nice thought. The acting was fair. The two actors playing gay were a touch awkward with each other, though very handsome. I wished fervently for more obvious intimacy between them, after all they are seriously involved, right? Well, at least an attempt is being made to have a heroic gay couple. Both actors are very mascluine, not parodies, for once. I only wish they were more comfortable with each other. So it depends what you like.
Somewhat sad.......2006-09-28
So I guess this is the 00's gay cable flick equivalent to the 80's B-action movies, the ones starring Chuck Norris or Michael Dudikoff (and that's a weird filmic phenomenon if you ask me).
Only this one was made with even less money than its ancient precursors, and that hurts the movie. The filmmakers try hard to provide a suspenseful small scale action substitute for the genre's requisite action-driven big finale, but they don't succeed, and you can't blame them, when you see the little production muscle they had to work with.
And basically that's the biggest letdown of the movie. Otherwise it's reasonably entertainning, and all the actors are likable (you gotta love Rae Dawn Chong).

Film fans might someday recognize 1997 and '98 as the years Hong Kong came to Hollywood. Stars Jackie Chan, Sammo Hung, Chow Yun-Fat, Jet Li, and Michelle Yeoh all appeared in major Hollywood projects and directors John Woo, Ronny Yu, and Tsui Hark directed <I>Face/Off</I>, <I>Bride of Chucky</I>, and <I>Knock Off</I>, respectively. Another entry into this new era of entertainment is <I>The Big Hit</I>, directed by Che-Kirk Wong (who also directed Jackie Chan in <I>Crime Story</I>), executive produced by John Woo, and produced by Wesley Snipes. Mark Wahlberg leads this all-American cast in a played-for-laughs macho blowout. Rounding out the testosterone brigade are Lou Diamond Phillips (sprouting a gold-capped tooth and a dirty mouth), Bokeem Woodbine (who, according to this DVD's director audio track, wore extra socks where it counts), Antonio Sabàto Jr., and Avery Brooks. Wahlberg plays Melvin Smiley, a nice-guy hit man with an ulcer and a severe insecurity problem. He's short on cash due to the spending habits of his unsuspecting fiancée Pam (Christina Applegate) and his girlfriend-on-the-sly Chantel (Lela Rochon). He and his crew decide to do a little freelancing and cook up their own heist to make a little mo' money--specifically by kidnapping Keiko (China Chow), the daughter of a Japanese businessman whom they target for ransom. Little do they know her dad is broke and she's the goddaughter of their boss. <I>The Big Hit</I> has action scenes aplenty (one of the stunt coordinators worked on Woo's <I>The Killer</I> and <I>Bullet in the Head</I>) and the same cornball sense of humor as other films in the Hong Kong action genre. Slick pacing and over-the-top humor made this movie a miss with the critics but a fun ride for fans of Hong Kong-styled action. <I>--Shannon Gee</I>
Customer Reviews:
An average action flick that you can't help but to laugh.......2007-06-07
This is a ridiculous movie, which is why I liked it so much. It is a very stylish movie with the action scenes having lots of crazy jumps, flips, and explosions. In here we have Mel, played by Mark Wahlberg, who is a hit man who works as part of a crew for Paris. However he has money problems and stress that gives him a constant upset stomach. His main stress comes from his two women. His fiancé has arranged for her disapproving parents to come to stay with them for the weekend, while his girlfriend Chantel is determined to get every penny she can out of him. When Cisco offers him a job outside of Paris's contracts he takes it and kidnaps Keiko, the daughter of a rich industrialist who also happens to be Paris's goddaughter. Betrayed by Cisco, Mel finds himself with the hostage but also targeted by plenty of firepower.
I've seen this couple of times and fine it worthwhile. The plot is silly but could have worked, however the action scenes don't really have any character and are best described as functional rather than special. The director has chosen to give the film a constant energy and pace rather than work on giving the film it's own character or style. Some of the scenes hint at what could have worked in the script. Quiet scenes between Mel and Keiko show a character that should have been worked into the action better. Instead these are rare and make way for meaningless, overblown action sequences which also, surprisingly for Wong, lack a sense of character or excitement. The effects aren't as good as you'd hope and several blue screen bits are poor.
Wahlberg is likeable in a goofy innocent role as Mel. He does well with the action as well as the insecure character. Phillips is either bad or brilliant depending on your feelings about what his role needed. He hams it up so much that at times he's hard to take but he compliments the absurd vein of comedy running through the narrative. Woodbine is wasted despite an amusing running gag about his discovery of [...]. The biggest waste for me was Lela Rochon. In `Knock Off' she proved that she is talented and sexy enough to rise above a bad film, here she hardly has any screen time - another example of wasted talent.
However this is disposal more than anything else. It has enough pace and energy to fool you into being entertained and in fairness the time does pass quite easily. My only complaint is that the film's style goes overboard towards the end of the movie, watch it and you'll see what I mean. Overall this is an average action movie who's weaknesses outweigh any strengths it may have had at the time of writing the original script.
Hot Hitman.......2007-02-01
This was really the first movie that you got to see Mark be a leading man. He really showed that he could carry a movie not only the action end of it but he showed that he can add humor to it as well.
I've seen all but 3 of his movies and i can seriously say that this is one of his BEST films!!!
My top 3 Mark movies would be:
1) The Big Hit
2) The Italian Job (he does some really hot driving in that movie)
3) Fear (he might play a creepy character, but he shows a lot of range with his acting in it)
The Big Hit a Big Laugh!.......2007-01-12
I loved this movie the first time I watched it some years back and promised myself I'd see it again because apparently it was the LAST time I ever saw it on broadcast television, it was so long ago I can't even remember what channel broadcast it was; but I saw it and thought to myself "I love this movie." And always have up till the day I got it because now I can watch it over, and over, and over again and it still cracks me up everytime. With that aside and Mark Wahlberg being one of my most favorite male actors-- this movie was topnotch in the very element it was supposed to be, a hard-hitting action movie with some right down comedy. It's not a movie to be taken seriously, but not a movie to let you down either of its mockery-- top notch acting and reasons why Mark Wahlberg, as an action star actor can do comedy, unlike Densel Washington who's even asked Jay Leno on his show why he couldn't do comedy, the response was because Densel was just too serious to be taken lightly. Here though, whether this wasn't a role Mark fit ideally to some peeople's benefit of his other marks; I still think it was one hell of a role for him that he did EXTREMELY well as the soft-spoken hitmen who could do everything right but has the incredible turn of luck to always get the crap end of the stick at times.
Good movie.
Good laughs.
Good times.
Even my fiancee enjoyed it and she'd never seen the movie up till I showed her some days ago! Good quality movie worth its time and laughter appeal.
One of my top 10 films.......2006-08-21
Every person that has reviewed this movie so far is an idiot.
This movie is the funniest thing I have ever seen. Plus it has Christina Applegate in it. And Sisko (Avery Brooks) from Deep Space Nine. What more could you want.
Moments that I still laugh about years after first seeing it are;
1. Lou Diamond Phillips when the phone rings. The use of slow motion is perfect.
2. Avery Brooks laying down the law to Lou Diamond Phillips when suddenly his phone rings at the worst moment. "Give Me That..."
3. Elliott Gould's speech at the dinner table.
I needed a gut transplant from laughing when this film was finished. A must see if you are still brave enough to smile in front of your feinds - unlike the idiot credit card shopping yuppies reviewing this film on here.
:0).......2006-06-18
I think Mark Wahlberg can have that little tiny comedic side to him love the cast, the action, the plot and the movie will add to collection

40 years later, it's still fresh and vibrant.

a fun sunday movie.......2007-03-15
I loved this movie... Charisma Carpenter did a wonderful job.... She was cute and funny and you couldn't help but to feel for her.... I can't wait to her and Holly Marie Combs to do more movies together... This is a perfect movie to watch with the gals...
Not a family movie.......2007-02-06
This unfunny sexual romp is badly written. I love Charisma Carpenter, but she and the other actors in this film seem to be struggling through it. It's not fun to watch; it's sad, dismal, and distasteful. Don't waste your money and don't make the mistake of thinking it's a family film.
Lisa Jankovic.......2007-01-10
Having read the novel, I decided it was time to see the film. However I must admit that I was never a fan of Charisma Carpenter, but I really enjoyed her in this film.
See Jane Date is about finding the one....but having to date all the losers to get to Mr Right.
Jane's cousin is getting married to a high flying internet exec, and having a fancy expensive wedding. Jane feels she can't turn up alone, so starts going on a series of dates to find her "date" for the wedding.
The book maybe more detailed, but the film is pretty much right on. However I am suprised that they cast Holly Marie Combs in the role of Natasha Nutley....but she's very good in the role and has a very nice wardrobe.
I would recommend this film for anyone who has needs a laugh or has gone through the hell of dating..haha
Charisma is capable of far better acting.......2006-11-07
Drivel. I'm a 40 year old woman and I like "chick flicks" when they are good. I loved "You've got mail". But this? This was just drivel. Badly written, formulaic boring plot, and obvious ending with the very stereotypical idiot boyfriend prospects and supportive friends.
You want to watch funny interactions between the sexes, watch Friends or BBC's coupling.
You want to watch Charisma ACT? Go rent Buffy and Angel. Watch Veronica Mars.
Charisma did her best to be Mary TYler Moore, but in the end, she was an unbelievable character who I'm supposed to believe as a wallflower. Yeah. Right.
Such Talent.......2006-10-19
Charisma Carpenter is such a talented actress and beautiful woman. This movie, seen many times on ABC Family and now on DVD is so well put together and highlights Charisma's acting ability. She should do more movies like this. I do my best to view all movies that I know she is in. She is more talented then many so called actresses on screen today she puts them to shame. The movie is just a pleasure to watch.

Description
This dark film noir comedy finds Dean (David Sutcliffe of TV's Gilmore Girls & Under the Tuscan Sun) obsessed with finding his hot lover Pablo (Antonio Sabato, Jr.) who went out for cigarettes and never came back. Pablo's mother is played by Sonia Braga of Kiss of the Spiderwoman. Dean's boss is played by Jennifer Coolidge of Best in Show and the American Pie films.
Customer Reviews:
Aaah those Argentines.........2007-05-22
I kinda liked Testosterone. Wonderful setting, cool graphics, and great acting - especially Sabato and Font impressed me. However, it has a flat feel to it, and the script could be tighter. The lost American in a foreign country was well depicted, even though I lacked the intensity that was needed in Sutcliffe's growing obsession. He just looked cute to me - no offense.
The ending is quite confusing, and the alternate one in the deleted scenes is really bent (refreshingly so), but all in all, a solid 3 stars.
Cry For Me Argentina.......2007-04-13
"Testosterone"
"Cry For Me Argentina"
Amos Lassen and Cinema Pride
I would not call "Testosterone" a happy movie. It began as a novel which was written by a gay author suffering from bouts of depression. It is the dark story of Dean whose lover Pablo left him to return to his native Argentina. Dean tries to track Pablo down and encounters all kids of men during his search. The cast is wonderful with David Sutcliffe as Dean, Sonia Braga ("Kiss of the Spider Woman") as Pablo's heartless mother and Antonio Sabato Jr. as Pablo. Unfortunately the script doesn't seem to have much of a sense of direction.
The film is heavily nationalistic and political. Dean is the "ugly American". He lacks all social graces and his rudeness is his calling card. He goes to Argentina and shows no interest in the country whatsoever. He is an unlikable character in all aspects but he is unbelievably sexy. His testosterone is represented as brutal male power--he is violent, very sexual, vengeful and extremely compulsive.
Even with its flaws I found "Testosterone" an interesting movie to see. It is entertaining but it is not a great film. The locations shot in Buenos Aires are gorgeous--the trees are green, the sky is blue, and the cinema photography is lush. But we cannot take this movie too seriously especially after hearing the line that Dean says, "I'm just a fag with a gun who needs a chain saw.
So who is this Dean character? He is a Los Angeles writer of graphic novels who had been involved in a six month affair with Pablo Alesandro. One night Pablo went out to buy cigarettes and never returned and Dean begins a search for him which means he had to go to Buenos Aires where he hears Pablo has gone. His adventures begin there at the home of Pablo's mother. Across the street there is a mysterious character by the name of Sofia who obviously knows Pablo. It is later that we discover that Sofia's brother, Marcos, is a former lover of Pablo. To complicate matters even more, Marcos meets Dean and is smitten with him.
The movie takes a different direction than what we are used to. For one it does not adhere to the stereotype of gay men we see so often in movies. The gay men in this movie have humanity and foibles and flaws. But because the story loses its focus, the movie suffers completely. The ending is offensive and silly. It is hard to combine Cinema Noir
with humor unless it is satire. And if this movie is a satire, I did not get it.
The movie may sadden you and humor you at the same time and the way one man goes about finding closure reminds us that most of us have been involved in at least one bad relationship.
The beginning of the movie is intriguing and entertaining but as time passes it is easy to lose interest.
Perhaps if the script had been better, this would have been a dynamite film.
Testosterone Down.......2006-11-10
This movie was not what I thought it was going to be like. I don't know why a lot of gay themed movies are so violent. The best thing about this movie was David Sutcliffe and Anotnio Sabato, Jr. Both are good actors, but I thought they're acting was wasted in this movie. There is a lot of deception and foreign intrigue. I did like the outtakes and the alternate ending in the special features. I was very disappointed, I am sorry to say.
shallow, pointless, weak acting and story.......2006-10-17
I had high hopes for this movie. What a waste. Two men have a fling for 10 months. One guy is a hot shot in Argentina. He goes back home to marry a woman. His lover goes to Argentina to find him. The hot shot's mom arranges for him to meet the wife-to-be, but he doesn't know it (he thinks she is helping him to find Mr. Hot Shot). And the wife-to-be has a brother who was Mr. Hot Shot's lover for a couple of years. And the lover and the ex-lover have sex...really committed to finding his pal, eh? The ex-lover and wife-to-be stage the ex-lovers death, trying to blame it on Mr. Hot Shot (in hopes of scaring the lover away). The lover and Mr. Hot Shot finally confront each other...and Mr. Hot Shot shows how shallow he really is. Mr. Hot Shot gets married. And the lover goes back home to the USA. The movie is shallow, the acting is less than mediocre, the story is really pointless (since Mr. Hot Shot never wanted his lover in the first place, and the lover wasn't serious about him...just an infatuation). The story and the acting seemed forced...neither one flowed well at all. Don't waste your time.
Convoluted Combo of Film Noir and Black Comedy Satisfies Neither Genre's Standards.......2006-09-22
This is one odd hybrid of a movie as it mixes Raymond Chandler-style film noir sensibilities with an oblique black comedy sense to present an overly convoluted story of obsession and betrayal. That still sounds promising until you actually watch the 2004 film and witness so much false posturing and so many ridiculous story turns that it ends up being an utter misfire. Director David Moreton has a talent for creating a suitably decadent atmosphere for the unraveling mystery elements, but he cannot set nor maintain an emotional tone that makes sense for the viewer. A major part of the problem is the disjointed, overly stylized script by Moreton and David Hensley that seems to aim for a gay variant of "Pulp Fiction".
The plot focuses on LA-based graphic novelist Dean Seagrave, whose idyllic relationship with boyfriend Pablo ends suddenly when he disappears. In his desperate search, Dean flies off to Buenos Aires where he faces barriers in Pablo's domineering spitfire mother and a strange pair of siblings with an unexplained connection to Pablo. The various twists and revelations finally lead Dean to Pablo but at a price neither expects. David Sutcliffe (now of "The Gilmore Girls") has usually been a likeable actor in small movie roles and larger TV ones, but with his first starring role in a feature film, he has been ill-served with an increasingly frustrating character. He responds by being alternately petulant and belligerent, the Ugly American prototype taken down several pegs due to his unfettered obsession. To Sutcliffe's defense, only a larger-than-life screen personality of the caliber of Nicholson or at least Russell Crowe could have any shot of success in the role.
In much briefer roles, Antonio Sabato, Jr., much ballyhooed for a frontal nudity flash, barely registers otherwise, while Sonia Braga hams it up as his mother. Somewhat better are Celina Font and Leonardo Brezizcki as the mysterious sister and brother, even though they have to play their roles so close to the vest as to become dramatically inert. Cast against type, Jennifer Coolidge is criminally wasted as Dean's aggressively indifferent editor. The preposterous ending simply compounds the pointlessness of the entire venture and the muddled motivations of the characters involved. On the debit side, cinematographer Ken Kelsch makes Buenos Aires look enticing, and composer Marco D'Ambrosio provides appropriately atmospheric music. The 2005 DVD contains an alternate ending, a couple of deleted scenes (including a striptease by Sabato), the original theatrical trailer and a making-of featurette, all of which provide limited prurient interest.

The arc of Janet Jackson's career from the late 1980s to the late '90s was a story of determined growth by an artist and woman. The extent to which Jackson served as a role model for many an adolescent girl during that decade (a phenomenon illuminated on another DVD, <I>The Rhythm Nation Compilation</I>) speaks to the formidable yet feminine image she presented via her music and music videos. <I>Design of a Decade</I> includes 16 of her videos from 1986 to 1996, taking us through Jackson's early, "don't trifle with me" attitude in the "What Have You Done for Me Lately" era, to her more rapturous, sensual makeover in "Love Will Never Do (Without You)." Of course, this video is also a record of some of the most ambitious music videos ever produced, including Julien Temple's elaborate "When I Think of You," Peter Smillie's "Escapade," and Marcus Nispel's ecstatic, fantastic "Runaway." <I>--Tom Keogh</I>

Janet - Design of A Decade DVD.......2007-01-29
Product Quality is fine. But I dont know why they edit "Miss You Much" by cutting the dance show in the last part.
Excellent, the best of Miss Jackson!!!!.......2007-01-17
Perfect compilation of the 80's and 90's hits of miss Jackson if you're "Nasty"... all the hits are included here with a great video and audio quality. I'm a big fan of her earlier videos, great dance choreographies and performances that could only match the ones made by her brother Michael. The only complain I have is the special features, why they did not include a biography, or live performances of the era, any ways, the collection deserves 10 stars.
Showcases the chameleon that is Janet!.......2006-05-06
Spanning ten years from 1986 until 1996, this DVD compiles all of the great videos of that period from "Control to Janet"

But they released it to soon because three months after this was released she came out with the video Twenty Foreplay and I really Love that video.

Deadly Skies For Straight People.......2006-09-22
What a ripoff! I had been seeing the trailer for "Deadly Skies" on several other dvds I'd rented. The main reason a wanted to see it was for the gay twist to the storyline. I rented it at my local video store. Not only did they cut out all of the gay scenes, They added an extra scene at the end to make it look like Antonio Sabato Jr. and Rae Dawn Chong were getting together. It wasn't a bad movie, but I rated it one star for the deception!
A Rather Routine Sci-Fi Thriller - with a Major Exception.......2006-09-18
Who can tell why this film was made? FORCE OF IMPACT (aka DEADLY SKIES) was apparently made for TV though it seems highly unlikely that it was ever screened. Not that the story itself is a problem: giant asteroid is sailing toward the earth with the potential of destroying the planet unless someone is smart enough to out guess the logistics. In this film the smart one is Rae Dawn Chong in a role she can sleep walk through. The government is not eager for her company to employ its 'better than government issue' strategies: Rob LaBelle and Michael Moriarty have a great time being mean. But it is Rea dawn Chong who remembers a terrific mind in the form of Antonio Sabato, Jr. who can save the planet....
And that is where the difference lies - Chong encounters Sabato and his lover Michael Boisvert in flagrante in a completely nude sex scene that is as sensual as any found in the movies. Nothing much is made of the reason for Sabato to be gay and that is good: he just happens to be a gay man in a healthy relationship, and the chemistry with Boisvert is definitely there. But that is about all we get, other than an opening scene when two beautiful young au naturel women make it in a swimming pool while a mini-asteroid collides in the water.
So it is another routine space age flick, but add to the salad the eye candy offered, and it is almost worth sitting through the movie! Pretty people help keep this one afloat. Grady Harp, September 06

Customer Reviews:
OK for Sabato fans.......2003-04-05
The region 1 DVD version has no additional extras to the VHS one described. Good to see an earlier effort of Antonio's though. The plot does drag on slightly and having the same family move house twice within six months seems a bit far fetched. The only reason I was saw this movie for a second time was that it was due for UK transmission by BBC on Monday 24 March, then was postponed to Friday 4 April due to Iraq news. This transmission has also been postponed giving no further air date. Save your money and look out for the show on BBC1 listings in UK. Around 23.30 to 01.00 has been the previous attempted start times.
Could be better.......2001-10-14
Antonio breaks out of jail and takes girlfriend Shannen on the run from the police and Shannen's family with him. The acting is flawless, and the film has some exciting moments, and I couldn't predict the ending. So why don't I give the film 5 stars? Well I feel the plot drags in parts so I don't think you can justify the price it's at now. Only buy if your a big fan of the actors or the price comes down.

Hypersonic.......2006-11-06
To me the movie is excellent, with Mr. Irvine doing the right thing at the end by looking out for his rival who got injured while jumping off a burning jet. I love it when an actor plays the hero type.
cool punishment scene.......2005-12-02
the guy shirtless, tied up, abs muscles so vulnerables to let the punisher to TORTURE this guy until he cant almost breath and cry for mercy...just an upper stomach being beaten to make this guy suffer a pain he will never forget...
Sweet Cheeks Melissa Lewis Ignites the HOT HOT Antonio.......2001-12-28
Oh, my lordy, lord, lord. The Base 1 left me feeling bereft of any true emotion. Thank God for the Base II with the steamy Melissa Lewis and the gun toting, fatigue wearing hunk of spunk, Antonio Sabato, Jr. I wish I could give this movie a six, but you only have a five..which I would like to talk to you guys about at some other point in time. So anyway, the interaction between the cast, especially Melissa Lewis and Antonio, was provocative and real. I heard they were going to cast Alyssa Milano for the female lead, but the director saw the light and cast newcomer, and Maxim magazine favorite, Melissa Lewis. Great choice in casting, great crafts and services. Buy this movie twice.
