With the knockout one-two punch of 1992's <I>Reservoir Dogs</I> and 1994's <I>Pulp Fiction</I> writer-director Quentin Tarantino stunned the filmmaking world, exploding into prominence as a cinematic heavyweight contender. But <I>Pulp Fiction</I> was more than just the follow-up to an impressive first feature, or the winner of the Palme d'Or at Cannes Film Festival, or a script stuffed with the sort of juicy bubblegum dialogue actors just love to chew, or the vehicle that reestablished John Travolta on the A-list, or the relatively low-budget ($8 million) independent showcase for an ultrahip mixture of established marquee names and rising stars from the indie scene (among them Samuel L. Jackson, Uma Thurman, Bruce Willis, Ving Rhames, Harvey Keitel, Christopher Walken, Tim Roth, Amanda Plummer, Julia Sweeney, Kathy Griffin, and Phil Lamar). It was more, even, than an unprecedented $100-million-plus hit for indie distributor Miramax. <I>Pulp Fiction</I> was a sensation. No, it was not the Second Coming (I actually think <I>Reservoir Dogs</I> is a more substantial film; and P.T. Anderson outdid Tarantino in 1997 by making his directorial debut with two even more mature and accomplished pictures, <I>Hard Eight</I> and <I>Boogie Nights</I>). But <I>Pulp Fiction</I> packs so much energy and invention into telling its nonchronologically interwoven short stories (all about temptation, corruption, and redemption amongst modern criminals, large and small) it leaves viewers both exhilarated and exhausted--hearts racing and knuckles white from the ride. (Oh, and the infectious, surf-guitar-based soundtrack is tastier than a Royale with Cheese.) <I>--Jim Emerson</I>
Description
Critics and audiences worldwide hailed PULP FICTION as the star-studded picture that redefined cinema in the 20th Century! Writer/director Quentin Tarantino (Academy Award(R) Winner -- Best Original Screenplay, 1994) delivers an unforgettable cast of characters -- including a pair of low-rent hit men (John Travolta and Samuel L. Jackson), their boss's sexy wife (Uma Thurman), and a desperate prizefighter (Bruce Willis) -- in a wildly entertaining and exhilarating motion picture adventure that both thrills and amuses!
Customer Reviews:
Tarantino's Masterpiece.......2007-06-15
Pulp Fiction is one of the best American films ever made. As Tarantino was both writer and director the film has his mark all over it. The trademark use of natural dialog that essentially has nothing to with the plot. Scenes are shown chronologically out of sequence, which sounds odd but Tarantino makes it work to his advantage as the loveable rogues are still alive at the end of the film, in the scene where the film started from.
Tarantinos casting is perfect. John Travolta is a revelation, Samuel L Jackson is Samuel L Jackson, but this is before we knew who Samuel L Jackson was! Uma Thurman is also great, but in possibly the best scene in the film Bruce Willis and Ving Rhames also turn in teriffic performances. In a lovely cameo role Harvey Keitel also turns up near the end of the film as well.
There are cimematic nods to a number of Tarantinos favourite movies as well. The most noteable being the dance scene with Travolta and Thurman which is based on a sequence in Jean-Luc Goddard's 'Bande A Parte'.
This is a very violent film, but as the title indicates its a form of comic strip violence, and there is also an underlying black comedy element as well. It is endlessly watchable and quoteable and that is the sign of a really great film.
Well... let not start sucking each others....quite yet!.......2007-06-08
This is the most entertaining movie I have ever seen. Seen it at least 20 times. Just brilliant.
"There is no me and you. Not no more...".......2007-05-22
In "Pulp Fiction," director Quentin Tarantino consistently defies viewer expectation and delivers one of the best films of the '90s. You'll marvel at Tarantino's adept bending of time structure, brilliant dialogue and memorable images. Some indie fans may prefer the admittedly great "Reservoir Dogs," but I say no go: "Pulp Fiction" is a deeper, more audacious and more accomplished picture.
Plot synopsis is difficult when dealing with Tarantino's time-bending narrative, but here goes: "Pulp Fiction" commences with two hitmen -- Vincent Vega (John Travolta) and Jules (Samuel L. Jackson) -- slinging hilarious dialogue (already considered classic) as they journey to collect some product from a soon-to-be former employee. After taking care of business, Travolta takes out his boss's lovely wife (Uma Thurman) as a favor to his out-of-town employer. A seemingly innocent night out turns into a unforgettable evening of '50s nostalgia, drug overdose and a memorable needle scene that will have the more squeamish population wincing.
The next sequence involves Bruce Willis as a boxer who agrees to throw a bout at the behest of Vincent's boss (Ving Rhames), but then has second thoughts. The situation gets considerably hairier when Willis and Rhames unexpectedly come face-to-face following the bout, and then must eventually join forces due to the most unforeseen of circumstances.
The movie does have its slow spots, most notably a dull sequence when a death-obsessed female cab driver peppers Willis with a series of bizarre questions. The scene isn't particularly funny, and in a 3-hour film it's clearly superfluous. That said, complaining about a single scene seems like sour grapes when discussing a masterpiece like Pulp Fiction. The film is consistently hilarious and pushes the envelope in just about every sense.
An oft-overlooked plot point is Jules' life-changing realization in the film's final act, a transformation that makes the movie about something instead of just a stylish piece of entertainment. Jackson's phenomenal performance is the best of many excellent acting turns, most notably John Travolta's outstanding comeback role, Uma Thurman's career-best peformane and Ving Rhames' star-making turn. Even the perpetually obnoxious Eric Stoltz is hilarious.
Andrzej Sekula's brilliant cinematography demands mention, making great scenes even greater (e.g. Travolta's walk down drug-trip lane). "Pulp Fiction" is a stunning film that deservedly cements Tarantino's position as one of the industry's hottest directors.
A royale with cheese.......2007-05-14
Awesome movie. The story is a complex intertwining adventure which will leave you thinking about it and trying to unravel it in your mind. Granted, the violence and language is a little extreme, but yet it is still done in a stylized manner. A must-have for Tarantino fans, crime drama fans, or for those who just appreciate good films.
QT Is My GOD!!!!.......2007-04-23
If you love QT as much as I do, then chances are that you most likely own this DVD. Quentin Tarantino has to be one of the most talanted movie writters/producers/directors ever. If you are a fan, you must purchase this DVD. It is loaded with extras and is well worth the money. Quentin Tarantino always casts great actors and actresses like Bruce Willis, Samuel L. Jackson, Tim Roth, John Travolta. I highly Recommend this movie to anyone.

live free or buy this again?.......2007-06-24
This is a money grab, absolutly right. Better editions exist and they will release the box set again with the fourth film included a couple of months after it's been available on it's own. Isn't that the formula these days?
Worth buying if you don't currently own it........2007-06-24
I have to agree with one of the previous posters. This collection is worth buying if you don't yet own it and/or you don't really care about what special features there are. I am a little upset that the newest movie is PG-13, but don't feel it will change the tone of the movie. All in all, factor in the free ticket, and you're looking at saving nearly $20 over the "5 Star Collection" from Fox.
Glorification of Violence.......2007-06-22
This sort of nonsense is fed as entertainment to young teen boys. The elite love that. It creates a steady supply of foolish young men that "volunteer" to die for the sordid wars for profit, such as the one in Iraq. Bruce Willis is an OLD man; he was middle-aged for the first movie and even older now. It's unlikely that an aged hero could do anything portrayed in these films. Violence kills and cripples - get it right. "W" Bush knows that, he kept well out of harm's way during the Vietnam War.
Die Hard Tripple Dippers!!.......2007-06-22
First of all let me start by saying I have been waiting for this set since I heard rumors of it's release back in 10/2006. Second DO NOT buy this set if you are looking for a cleaner newly restored version of the films! these are indeed a re-hash of the first and second releases the menus are the same as the five star/special editions respectively. The video quality has not changed. I am seriously disappointed in this release I expected better from fox for the re-release of the franchise that they have re-dipped into for a 2007 summer blockbuster! I did NOT buy this set I rented it from Blockbuster Online and compared it to the first release box set and the fives star/special editions.
I would expect they would do more than make this an advertisement campaign for the sequel. If you are looking to get this set for the simple reason that you find that it's cheaper than the previous versions and you DO NOT have the previous versions... then by all means go ahead buy it but be forewarned... I hear rumors of a remastered set when DH4 releases on dvd.
Pointless release of these films........2007-06-19
It is obvious that in this day and age of DVD releases and HD DVD not so much a problem because most of the older releases have not come out yet. There is already the die hard collection on dvd that was released in 2000.Even these are terrific action films especally Die Hard , do we really need another release of these films just for the sake of a promotional disk for Die Hard 4 sure i like other fans of Die Hard will go to see the 4th movie it's good to have Mclane back but who cares about this collection they should have released this for the people that have HD DVD give this to them and forget about releaseing these on DVD again it is pointless. And for those who want to buy this get the ones that were
released in 2000 better sound don't fall prey to there promotional crap. And im sure they will release this again when Die Hard 4 comes out proof positive that these studios are not smart on releasing Dvd's.

With harrowing intensity, Alpha Dog dramatizes one of the most tragically notorious murders in recent history. Ripped from the headlines, writer-director Nick Cassavetes' flawed but riveting crime drama (a polar opposite to his previous film, the romantic hit The Notebook) is based on the real-life case of Jesse James Hollywood, a drug dealer in California's San Gabriel Valley who, in 2000, became one of the youngest men to appear on the FBI's Ten Most Wanted list. Names and details have been changed, but the criminal circumstances remain the same: With family links to organized crime, Johnny Truelove (Emile Hirsch) is on the warpath against Jake Mazursky (Ben Foster), a sleazebag addict who owes him money. Fate intervenes when Johnny and his stoner pals including Frankie (Justin Timberlake) encounter Jake's 15-year-old half-brother Zack (Anton Yelchin) and hold him as collateral until Jake pays his debts. What begins as a casual, seemingly harmless situation escalates into a crisis of capital crime, as Alpha Dog employs split-screen, docudrama, and mock-documentary interviews to chronicle a tragic tailspin of reckless events and lawless behavior.
Cassavetes himself became part of the real-life drama when prosecutors (hoping to locate then-fugitive Jesse James Hollywood, who was captured in 2005) gave him legally controversial access to their case files. Alpha Dog clearly benefits from this inside information, and while the film's grueling depiction of underage squalor (including rampant drug and alcohol abuse) is inevitably off-putting and at least partially exploitative, there's no denying that Cassavetes has worked wonders with a well-chosen ensemble cast including Timberlake, who contrasts his music-industry stardom with a convincing performance as a likable, not-too-bright party animal who quickly gets in over his head. The film is ultimately compromised by Cassavetes' ambitious attempt to cover too much dramatic territory, but like his father John before him, he demonstrates a remarkable skill with actors (including Sharon Stone, Bruce Willis, and Harry Dean Stanton in supporting roles), and Alpha Dog is full of powerful, dangerous moments that aren't easily forgotten. --Jeff Shannon
Description
They grew up together in the suburbs of LA, living their own version of the American dream, with every day a blur of partying and looking for the next thrill. Johnny (Emile Hirsch, Lords of Dogtown) is the leader in their sordid world of drugs, greed, power and privilege. But when he is double-crossed by another dealer, things quickly begin to spiral out of control, and an impulsive kidnapping leads to a shocking conclusion. Justin Timberlake (Edison), Sharon Stone (Bobby) and Bruce Willis (Lucky Number Slevin) co-star in this powerful and controversial film.
Customer Reviews:
Shallow and multi-layered.......2007-06-24
Alpha Dog is a great B movie. The actors are meant to speak in real time scenes with realistic everyday dialog, meaning it should come off as a false reality TV show like The Office, where "realistic" acting is done well. Instead, we get movie acting, which makes much of the dialog seem forced. Still, the movie is enjoyable for its gratuitous violence, swearing, and drug use. The beginning of the movie is a typical over the top gangster vs gangster scenario, with the middle of the film played as a no holds barred teen party movie. For a while, the seriousness of the story is cast aside as the comedy, action and excess becomes enjoyable on a base level. Rather than be preachy, the movie is left to be enjoyed as a movie, until the film shifts into a serious, sombering "based on a true story" morality tale that might be found in the "free rental" section of Blockbuster. While characters are based on real people, as characters they are left to thrive in their movie reflection of life, but as reflections of people they gain an extra layer of sympathy and identification. Alpha Dog actually changes from "mindless crime drama" to "mindless party movie" to "serious based on true events tale," which would seem like a bad choice, but it prevents the entire movie from being dragged down. From the first half of the movie, learning or self growth seems unlikely. Morality and realistic consequences are nowhere to be seen in the beginning, yet the beginning movie cliches become transcended by the characters, so that a false gangster scene becomes obviously false as the movie progresses, making reality more noticeable and tragic. The use of flashback, counted days, and numbered witnesses creates an ominous caution that is not over the top, but drags the viewer in and out of the fantasy movie world. In the end, the actors aren't real people, and the poor special effects drive home the point that this is just a movie meant to look like reality, but this creates a more startling movie as we imagine the true reality behind it. Alpha Dog is paradoxically mindless and shallow without insulting the viewers intelligence.
Alpha Dog Unwatchable.......2007-06-14
If you are an adult with brain cells Alpha Dog will be unwatchable. I had to turn it off after torturing through 45 minutes of watching adolescent males posturing with grotesque levels of ignorance. If there was action, suspense, plot, any shred of meaningful dialogue, I may have been able to watch the entire film. But who wants to pay money, and waste two hours, watching a room full of partying teens act stupidly? The characters are so painfully dumb it is torture to watch. The world of the uneducated and brash American teen age boy is not one I want to go to. Maybe there is a social message or commentary by the end of the film, but if you value your time and intelligence pass on this worthless peek into the world of drugged out teens
Stuck in the middle again.......2007-06-12
I have to say that I didn't have the greatest expectations of this film. After watching it, turns out it's better than I thought. Not saying it's a great movie but it's not bad either. Somewhere in the middle. It's inspired by a true story and it reminds me of Bully but without the unnecessary, overexposed nudity. I actually favored their decision to mark every witness that saw the hostage with the captors. Especially the bystanders who have no connection to any of them whatsoever. The acting was pretty good but the entertainment value could've been better.
Just as I anticipated.......2007-06-10
After becoming fasinated with the "Jesse James Hollywood" story about a year ago, I was ecstatic to learn that a movie would be released concerning the events. I think the movie is excellent but also extremely troubling. To have an idea placed in your mind about what that poor boy went through in the end is the most horrifying picture. I cried until there were no tears left. I knew the story like the back of my hand, but I never really GOT it until seeing this film.
I would recommend this movie to anyone old enough to view the sex, violence, etc. it contains. I would highly recommend reading up on the true story the movie is based on before seeing it.
A Very Underated Film.......2007-06-06
I wanted to see this film because I had seen the actual MSN coverage previously. The true story was so fasinating, I wanted to see how it would be dramatized in a movie. I would have to say Nick Cassavetes, the son of the late John Cassavetes, got it right on the money. Knowing what was going to happen in the end I was still unhinged at such heartbreaking violence to one so young. Some movies are sad, some are scarey, some are funny, this movie was just plain disturbing. It will stick with you long after you have finished watching it and you will be surprized at what a good job all of the actors in the film did. Alot was put on Justin Timberlake's shoulders since his character, Frankie is very central to the story and he did a very fine job. He has alot of charisma and it comes across in his relationship with the young victim, Zach, played by Anton Yelchin who also did a wonderful job. It is the basis of this relationship that makes this movie so powerful and poignant. I hope people give this movie a chance, they won't be sorry.

"I see dead people," whispers little Cole Sear (Haley Joel Osment), scared to affirm what is to him now a daily occurrence. This peaked 9-year old, already hypersensitive to begin with, is now being haunted by seemingly malevolent spirits. Child psychologist Malcolm Crowe (Bruce Willis) is trying to find out what's triggering Cole's visions, but what appears to be a psychological manifestation turns out to be frighteningly real. It might be enough to scare off a lesser man, but for Malcolm it's personal--several months before, he was accosted and shot by an unhinged patient, who then turned the gun on himself. Since then, Malcolm has been in turmoil--he and his wife (Olivia Williams) are barely speaking, and his life has taken an aimless turn. Having failed his loved ones and himself, he's not about to give up on Cole.
This third feature by M. Night Shyamalan sets itself up as a thriller, poised on the brink of delivering monstrous scares, but gradually evolves into more of a psychological drama with supernatural undertones. Many critics faulted the film for being mawkish and New Age-y, but no matter how you slice it, this is one mightily effective piece of filmmaking. The bare bones of the story are basic enough, but the moody atmosphere created by Shyamalan and cinematographer Tak Fujimoto made this one of the creepiest pictures of 1999, forsaking excessive gore for a sinisterly simple feeling of chilly otherworldliness. Willis is in his strong, silent type mode here, and gives the film wholly over to Osment, whose crumpled face and big eyes convey a child too wise for his years; his scenes with his mother (Toni Collette) are small, heartbreaking marvels. And even if you figure out the film's surprise ending, it packs an amazingly emotional wallop when it comes, and will have you racing to watch the movie again with a new perspective. You may be able to shake off the sentimentality of <I>The Sixth Sense</I>, but its craftsmanship and atmosphere will stay with you for days. <I>--Mark Englehart</I>
Description
Hollywood superstar Bruce Willis (ARMAGEDDON, THE SIEGE) brings a powerful presence to an edge-of-your-seat thriller from writer-director M. Night Shyamalan (Oscar(R)-nominee for Best Original Screenplay and Best Director) that critics are calling one of the greatest ghost stories ever filmed. When Dr. Malcolm Crowe (Willis), a distinguished child psychologist, meets Cole Sear (Oscar(R)-nominee Haley Joel Osment, Best Supporting Actor), a frightened, confused, eight-year-old, Dr. Crowe is completely unprepared to face the truth of what haunts Cole. With a riveting intensity you'll find thoroughly chilling, the discovery of Cole's incredible sixth sense leads them to mysterious places with unforgettable consequences!
Customer Reviews:
Way to stiff the actors, amazon! .......2007-06-18
This film is worth all its five stars and more, but what's up with amazon.com listing the actors as Firdous Bamji, Mischa Barton, Toni Collette, and Janis Dardanis? Collette is certainly worth mentioning -- her performance is terrific -- but who the heck are Bamji and Dardanis? Mischa Barton's fifteen minutes of fame in The O.C. hardly merits billing over Bruce Willis and Haley Joel Osment, who give two of the most affecting and intelligent screen performances in recent memory.
What's next? The DVD of "Gone with the Wind, starring George Reeves and
Evelyn Keyes"?
BRILLIANT!.......2007-06-13
THIS MOVIE IS BRILLIANT! I echo Nathan Alderman's review of this film.
Great thriller!.......2007-06-01
"I see dead people". You've heard that line before. This is the movie that started the jokes and spawned other movies based solely on that one line. When a movie has that kind of power, you know it's good.
So what's this movie about? Basically, a pyschologist (Malcolm) comes to a little boy's (Cole) aid when he claims that he can see dead people. No one else can see these dead people and they're not friendly by any means. Malcolm has to try and come up with a way to make living with dead people more tolerable for Cole (if that's at all possible). Meanwhile, Malcolm has to deal with his own personal issues when his wife stops talking to him after he got shot by a former patient a year before.
If you haven't seen this movie, you're missing out. For those who don't like scary movies, don't worry. This isn't a typical scary movie. This is more of a mystery movie in which you have to think about what's going on and what's going to happen. The first time I watched this movie in the theaters, I left with shaky knees. It was that good. This is a must have movie in every household's movie collection.
Heighten your cinematic senses.......2007-04-21
M. Night Shyamalan's debut as the masterful storyteller/director began with this most mysterious and heartfelt film, The Sixth Sense. The last time I saw The Sixth Sense was over six years ago and it was as though I enjoyed it even more now than I did the first time I saw it in theatres. Shyamalan's script is woven so beautifully and with such great care that the viewer will be yearning to find answers to the many questions this film forces one to develop.
The Sixth Sense starts out with a bang (with probably the best performance by Donnie Wahlberg I've ever seen on the big screen) and leaves the audience almost trembling. As the story begins after this shocking introduction, we see Bruce Willis a year later after his career has been somewhat destroyed by the terrible events that occurred a year prior. Willis plays a child psychologist, and begins treatment through brief clinical sessions with a young boy (played memorably by Haley Joel Osment). Osment seems terribly disturbed and Willis appears determined to solve this troubled boy's problems. But as the story begins to unfold and the audience learns of Osment's nightmarish ailment, Willis finds that helping this boy will take far more effort than he could have ever imagined.
It is hard to capture the beauty of The Sixth Sense in a few paragraphs, but the simplicity of its execution is enough to show that original films can still grab an audience better than any mind-blowing special effect. The Sixth Sense manages to keep the crowd attentive without a single special effect for almost two hours. This movie is not only a good thriller, but its dramatic elements will sometimes grasp at you without letting you go.
An excellent and unforgettable performance by Toni Collette and one of the greatest ghost stories ever told. If you are not a fan of horror, do not fret; this is not a horror film. But there are definitely a few good jumps to be enjoyed. This movie can be seen over and over again and will one day be known as a classic work of film-making. This is by far the most superior M. Night Shyamalan film.
What can I say.......2007-04-02
Bruce Willis goodness, and the twist will make your skin crawl. OOOOoooo oh and not for the kiddies hence the pg13 rating.

The manicured lawns and overstuffed garbage cans of suburbia become a buffet for woodland creatures in Over the Hedge. A self-centered raccoon named RJ (voiced by Bruce Willis, Die Hard) steals and accidentally destroys the hoard of an angry bear (Nick Nolte, 48 Hours), who gives the raccoon a week to replace it. RJ despairs--until he meets an odd gang of foragers, ranging from a turtle named Verne (Garry Shandling, The Larry Sanders Show), a father/daughter duo of opossums (the bizarre pairing of William Shatner and pop singer Avril Lavigne), a family of porcupines (with A Mighty Wind's Eugene Levy and Catherine O'Hara as the parents), and a hyperactive squirrel named Hammy (Steve Carell, The 40 Year Old Virgin). By convincing these friendly beasts that the suburban homesteads on the other side of a recently erected hedge are a mother-lode of cast-off food, RJ hopes to dupe them into doing his gathering. But when the suburban residents realize they've been invaded by woodland pests, an exterminator is called to take care of the problem. The overarching storyline of Over the Hedge is pure formula--your basic "family matters more than anything" lesson--but moment to moment, the movie is delightfully crisp and clever. The animation is topnotch, the acting is excellent (other voices include those of Allison Janney, The West Wing, and Thomas Haden Church, Sideways), and the satirical jabs at consumerism are actually funny. An above-average animated movie. --Bret Fetzer

RJ Learns The Value of Friendship.......2007-06-12
I have always been a fan of animation, Disney, cartoons, etc. There have been many new releases that haven't made much of an impression with me - Over The Hedge is NOT one of those! The entertainment value of this movie is multiplied several times over as a result of the cleverly woven ethical dilemmas and life lessons scattered throughout. The tough guy, RJ accomplishes his original goal - only to find that everything he was taking, would have been voluntarily shared with him - because he was considered a "friend". Not only does Rj find out what real friendship means, the original gang also learns a valuable lesson about trust and loyalty.
This is a wonderfully written, exceptionally well presented movie - that is fun for the whole family!
WHAT A WONDERFUL WAY TO SPEND THE EVENING!.......2007-06-07
I am not much into animated movies but this one was top notch.
Such wonderful slapstick comedy by a bunch of animals that have run afoul of human neighbors.
The whole complete entourage was a wonderful group to place together.
Bruce Willis as the troublemaker RJ, the coon who had to run afoul of the bear and his snacks [Nick Nolte].
I have to admit that I enjoyed, even more, the extra - describing each character and the personality taking the part.
And Thomas Hayden Church as the exterminater - so real and different - I had only seen him in the frontier western.
HIGHLY ENTERTAINING - Recommend for all to see.
EXCELLENT FILM FOR YOUNG AND OLD!.......2007-05-31
I really liked this movie! The animation and characters are first rate, though the story is simple it's all you'll need to get the ball rolling in the wacky and very funny comedy. The DVD looks fantastic!
Over The Hedge Has Gotten Over My Head!!!!.......2007-05-29
My mom rented this movie from Netflix we both liked it.My favorite characters are Stella the Skunk & Hammy the Squirrel.Hammy is definetly funny & cute.Me & my mom definetly cracked up about this part when RJ & the animals were stealing the food from Gladys house when she saw that the animals were in her house Stella letted out a big gross gas odor in the house. My friend told me that she & her 5 year old granddaughter saw Over The Hedge & they also liked it.Over The Hedge is a great movie that Children & Adults will enoy together!
Let the Fur Fly..........2007-05-16
After having achieved great success with their hit computer animated comedies "Shrek" and "Shrek 2", the creative minds at Dreamworks decided to tackle the topic of suburban life. Though not quite in the manner you may be thinking; instead, Dreamworks opted to take the point of view of woodland creatures who have had a portion of their homes destroyed by the ever-expanding world of suburbia.
"Over the Hedge" begins with RJ (Bruce Willis), a raccoon who has had the misfortune of crossing a very angry bear (Nick Nolte) and losing all of the bear's food. Now RJ has merely a week to replace the bear's supply of food or else pay the penalty with his life. As RJ believes all hope is lost, he stumbles across a group of woodland creatures who have recently awakened from the winter only to discover a large portion of their beloved forest has been destroyed and replaced with what is known as `suburbia'. This ragtag group of creatures consisting of a paranoid turtle named Verne (Garry Shandling), a family of porcupines, a father/daughter team of opossums (William Shatner and Avril Lavigne) and an overly hyperactive squirrel named Hammy (Steve Carell), are trying to figure out just what has happened to their forest and also what is this huge chunk of foliage standing in their way. Enter RJ, who just so happens to know what vast treasures the garbage cans and intricately manicured lawns of suburban America can hold, and now he hopes to introduce these naïve creatures to the wonders of society while at the same time using them to unknowingly assist in repaying his debt. There's just one big problem with the plan, the humans populating this newly completed suburb are not to keen on the woodland creatures presence in their neighborhood and have taken steps that will threaten the animals very existence.
When I saw the trailer to this movie I laughed through the entire duration, especially during the previewed scenes of Hammy, and then when it was announced that it was from the creators of "Shrek" I had a really good feeling that this was going to be more than just an average entry into the expanding genre of computer animated films. The story, though simplistic in nature, is also very sweet and incredibly hilarious, and is one that appeals to kids and adults alike. The vocal talent that Dreamworks employs for their animated features continues to pull from the best that Hollywood has to offer, this time ranging from Bruce Willis ("16 Blocks"), Garry Shandling ("The Larry Sanders Show"), William Shatner (`Star Trek' franchise), and Steve Carell ("The Office"), even pop singer Avril Lavigne. The entire cast is perfect, and the hilarious rapport that the characters share with each other is absolutely hysterical in many instances. The animation is outstanding, which is no surprise given Dreamworks' previous efforts, and the excessive use of furry creatures was quite surprising, given how difficult fur can be to render realistically, it also serves as a perfect example for how far the technology has come. Overall, this movie is definitely another computer animated comedy gem from the talented people that brought you "Shrek", and is one that the entire family can sit down and enjoy together.
"Over the Hedge" is rated PG for mildly rude humor.

Christmas is not a good time of year in the McClane family. Especially for John McClane, who always happens to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. But if it weren't for the heroics of this rugged, resourceful cop, many lives would be lost and megalomaniacal terrorists with various European accents would be having their evil way. In 1988, director John McTiernan and the phenomenal hit <I>Die Hard</I> introduced the world to maverick Sgt. John McClane (Bruce Willis) of the New York Police Department, and in the course of this film and two blockbuster sequels McClane was frantically saving lives, buildings, airports, schools, cities, and even his marriage from the threat of international terrorists, psychopaths, and cagey mercenaries. Now you can watch antihero McClane blast his way through all three movies. Witness his transition from a happy-go-lucky, slightly cranky cop to extremely burnt-out, partially alcoholic cop with a propensity to attract extreme violence and catastrophe. Yet the one thing that always overshadows his character flaws is his uncanny ability to spoil the schemes of stylish villains with slick names such as Hans Gruber (the nasty terrorist from the first film, played to perfection by Alan Rickman). Sit down, pop some corn, grab a bottle of Coca-Cola, and get ready to watch (in any order you please) the <I>Die Hard Trilogy</I>--a must for any action buff or fan of Bruce Willis, who owes his film career to the enduring appeal of these global box-office hits. <I>--Jeremy Storey</I>
Customer Reviews:
Great Movies, who's the swelled head that packaged them?.......2007-01-13
The Movies, what can I say they are great as always. The problem I have is the packaging. This collection of three Willis' films (6disks) takes up more shelf space than a five film "007" collection, or the 4 film (9disk) Alien collection. Now these are good/even great action flicks, but they are not 007, who has the swelled head in the production company?
Guys, I do buy DVDs because the quality is better, I also buy them because they take up LESS shelf space. So lets get with it?
Die Hard - The ultimate Collection.......2007-01-10
I bought it as a gift for my grandson. He was very pleased with it.

Bruce Willis stars as NYPD Officer John McClane in the action packed "Die Hard" Collection- "Die Hard" "Die Hard 2: Die Harder" "Die Hard with a Veagence" Great brilliant action movies, the best action movies ever made, Willis is terrific & funny. Buy this action packed triumphs before ya see "Live Free or Die Hard" next summer
Die Hard = Action At Its Finest.......2006-08-31
The original 'Die Hard' is one of those rare movies that come around once every 10 years or so. If you look at any of the AFI lists of the greatest movies ever made, you will see this film make their list, the amazing thing being that the lists I am referring to are not meant for action but movies IN GENERAL. With an amazing cast, wonderful script, solid directing, this is a rare example of the perfect movie. If you love action movies and haven't ever seen Die Hard before, stop reading this review and go pick up the film. Even 18 years later, the movie had stood the test of time with barely a bump in the road, and it's the quickest 2+ hours that will go by.
***** HIGHEST POSSIBLE RECOMMENDATION
Die Hard 2 is another fine movie and a wonderful sequel. The writers could have easily copied the same storyline as with the original Die Hard (see the Under Siege films), but instead they go a different route with another fine script. This movie only gets better with age for me. Another solid performance by Bruce Willis, fine directing and you have a sequel while not as good as the original, it's enjoyable to say the least.
**** HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
'Die Hard With A Vengeance' is an odd film. Wonderfully acted and written at times, there are scenes which I think are even better than the original Die Hard. But then you have ridiculous moments like Bruce Willis and Samuel Jackson falling 100+ feet and not killing themselves where the movie just falls flat. I think the script itself is even better than the Die Hard 2 story, but with 5 years time between the 2nd and 3rd films, this just doesn't have the same enjoyment as the other movies. Deciding to make Bruce Willis a divorced down and out drunk cop doesn't help you connect as well to the character as in the 1988 and 1990 films either, so this movie gets the lowest rating of the bunch.
*** RECOMMENDED
Awesome action.......2006-07-22
First, I love Bruce Willis! I love movies that portray the "bad guys" getting what they deserve in the end. Bruce Willis movies do a great job showing fans that. I also enjoy the fact that he is a family guy. Not a perfect father but he really does love them. In "Die Hard" (Collection) there are some corny parts but you can get past them quickly because they are so action-packed. The "Die Hard" (Collection) is NOT POLITICALLY CORRECT! Go Bruce!! :)

Best known for making movies about men and violence, director Walter Hill scored a misfire with this ambitious but ultimately dreary remake of Akira Kurosawa's samurai classic <I>Yojimbo</I>. The story's essentially the same but the setting has been switched to a dusty, almost ghostly Texas town in the 1930s, where two rival Chicago gangs are locked in an uneasy truce. Bruce Willis plays the lone drifter who allies himself with both gangs to his own advantage, working both sides against each other according to his own hidden agenda. The violence escalates to a bloody climax, of course, with Christopher Walken, David Patrick Kelly, and Michael Imperioli as trigger-happy lieutenants in a lonely, desolate war. Fans of gangster movies will want to see this, and, if nothing else, Hill has brought his polished style to a vaguely mythic story. It's far from being a classic, however, and although its action is at times masterfully choreographed, the movie's humorless attitude is unexpectedly oppressive. <I>--Jeff Shannon</I>

A Unique Masterpiece.......2007-05-10
Part prohibition-era gangster movie and part Clint Eastwood spaghetti western, "Last Man Standing" is a film that is entertaining from beginning to end. This movie does not take itself seriously. The characters are as if from a comic book, lacking complexity, and the dialogue is cliche. It's theme of redemption for the morally challenged "hero" , "John Smith", performed by Bruce Willis saves it from being a mindless shoot 'em up. Doesn't sound too promising? Wait until you experience it. Two rival booze profiteering gangs, one Italians and one Irish, both from urban Chicago, compete with each other for control of the "old west" town near the Mexican border that they operate out of. The only happy person in town, indeed, one of the few left other than gangsters, is the undertaker. Business is good. "John Smith" rides into town and gets the idea that he can play them off of each other to make some money, but sympathy for the plight of three women interferes with his plans. Shooting accompanied by the killing that results is the main action. If you like that sort of thing, then this is a great example.
The real star of this movie is the atmospherics and the cast. The filming is done in such a way that you are immersed in the setting. Dust, heat, colorless wasteland of both nature and the soul. The narration by our protagonist, rather than spicing it up, merely piles on the cynicism and nihilism of the externals. The musical soundtrack by Ry Cooder is amazing and my favorite part of the movie, perfectly in sync with the visual image and subject matter. I purchased the music as soon as I was able and listen to it often. One of my favorite soundtracks ever. Bruce Willis is excellent as usual and Christopher Walken is perfect as the sociopathic killer. Bruce Dern as the corrupt Sheriff and William Sanderson as the inn-keeper are great. This is a movie worth owning because you will watch it again and again.
Great Movie.......2007-02-20
Some people criticize the movie for being a rip off of Eastwood's Fist Full of Dollars. Well duh! Like Fist Full of Dollars, Last Man Standing is an HOMAGE to Akira Kuwasawa's Yojimbo. Not a rip off, LMS is a modern honoring of a classic film.
Great audio for the gun fights, great cinematography that gives the movie a definite mood. If you love 1930's gangster movies you'll love this film. One of my all time favorites!
All Guns Blazing.......2007-01-31
This movie has the best gun sounds of any movie ever; It also features more gunfights than several other movies put together...Short on plot and heavy on atmosphere and violence, this movie is pretty much Bruce Willis shooting everything in sight for an hour and forty minutes. But I love Walter Hill, who has a knack for intensity. He directs this straight forward tale with skill that raises potentially so-so material to another level. I love the dust, the Ry Cooder soundtrack, the whole Old West meets the East Coast Gangster thing; Bruce Dern and Christopher Walken are always amusing, and it's just a fun movie to watch unfold, even though you pretty much know where it's going. Sounds GREAT loud!!!
"THE MOVIE".......2007-01-03
This is one of Bruce best movies that I have seen him in. I look at this movie at least four times a month. All of Bruce Willis fans this is a DVD that you must have!!!
One of those love it or hate it films, I suppose... I love it!.......2006-10-08
All the critics hated it. About half the people who have reviewed it here hate it. I'm with the other half. I love this film -- I've watched it at least seven times and it's still entertaining. It kind of reminds me of people's reaction to Chronicles of Riddick -- I happened to love that film but critics panned it and a lot of people thought the film less than stellar.
There IS a moral center to the film and, yes, this is essentially a remake of Fistful of Dollars (one of my favorite films).
Bruce Willis does a great job playing the cool, opportunistic mystery man on the run (from who knows what). What you'll find out about 10 minutes into the movie is that this is going to be a shoot-em up with fantastic gun play. Over the top, glorious and very cool double fisted Colt 45 action with clips dropping from the handles kind of gun play.
Acting is well done Dern, Willis.. heck, just about everybody did a good job in this film. These aren't no name actors.. this is quite a cast and I'm only sorry this film has been given such a rough time by a lot of folks.
If you don't like violence, can't stand pulp fiction heroes, a dark story line, and don't like mobster movies/westerns then don't even consider this flick.

Brutal and breathtaking, Sin City is Robert Rodriguez's stunningly realized vision of Frank Miller's pulpy comic books. In the first of three separate but loosely related stories, Marv (Mickey Rourke in heavy makeup) tries to track down the killers of a woman who ended up dead in his bed. In the second story, Dwight's (Clive Owen) attempt to defend a woman from a brutal abuser goes horribly wrong, and threatens to destroy the uneasy truce among the police, the mob, and the women of Old Town. Finally, an aging cop on his last day on the job (Bruce Willis) rescues a young girl from a kidnapper, but is himself thrown in jail. Years later, he has a chance to save her again.

<span class="tiny">Read our interview with Frank Miller. </span> </td></tr> </table> Based on three of Miller's immensely popular and immensely gritty books (The Hard Goodbye, The Big Fat Kill, and That Yellow Bastard), Sin City is unquestionably the most faithful comic-book-based movie ever made. Each shot looks like a panel from its source material, and director Rodriguez (who refers to it as a "translation" rather than an adaptation) resigned from the Directors Guild so that Miller could share a directing credit. Like the books, it's almost entirely in stark black and white with some occasional bursts of color (a woman's red lips, a villain's yellow face). The backgrounds are entirely digitally generated, yet not self-consciously so, and perfectly capture Miller's gritty cityscape. And though most of Miller's copious nudity is absent, the violence is unrelentingly present. That may be the biggest obstacle to viewers who aren't already fans of the books and who may have been turned off by Kill Bill (whose director, Quentin Tarantino, helmed one scene of Sin City). In addition, it's a bleak, desperate world in which the heroes are killers, corruption rules, and the women are almost all prostitutes or strippers. But Miller's stories are riveting, and the huge cast--which also includes Jessica Alba, Jaime King, Brittany Murphy, Rosario Dawson, Benicio Del Toro, Elijah Wood, Nick Stahl, Michael Clarke Duncan, Devin Aoki, Carla Gugino, and Josh Hartnett--is just about perfect. (Only Bruce Willis and Michael Madsen, while very well-suited to their roles, seem hard to separate from their established screen personas.) In what Rodriguez hopes is the first of a series, Sin City is a spectacular achievement. --David Horiuchi</p>

Description
An amazing cast of big-screen favorites is directed by Robert Rodriguez (DESPERADO, FROM DUSK TILL DAWN), Frank Miller -- and special guest director Quentin Tarantino (KILL BILL 1 and 2, PULP FICTION) -- in an acclaimed and visually stunning hit that's the coolest movie of the year! Straight from the pages of Miller's hip series of "Sin City" graphic novels, Bruce Willis stars as a cop with a bum ticker and a vow to protect a sexy stripper (Jessica Alba -- FANTASTIC FOUR); Mickey Rourke (MAN ON FIRE) as an outcast misanthrope on a mission to avenge the death of his one true love (Jaime King -- PEARL HARBOR); and Clive Owen (KING ARTHUR) as Dwight, the clandestine love of Shellie (Brittany Murphy -- LITTLE BLACK BOOK), who spends his night defending Gail (Rosario Dawson -- THE DEVIL'S REJECTS) and her Old Town girls (Devon Aoki and Alexis Bledel) from a tough guy (Benicio Del Toro -- 21 GRAMS) with a penchant for violence. Also starring Elijah Wood, Nick Stahl, Michael Madsen, Carla Gugino, and Michael Clarke Duncan.

Soooo Freakin Good.......2007-06-19
So, you watch movies to be entertained and that's what you get with this movie. You never want to stop watching AND then you want to watch it again. There is a lot of gore but, it's kind of abstracted by the comic book setting but overall it's a pretty rough movie. Still, it was good enough we are planning to watch it again.
A nice DVD package........2007-05-30
This is a nice package for a film such as this. My only wish, is that it would contain more interviews with Frank Miller and how he brought Sin City to life as a comic book. But other than that, there's a nice selection of interesting features on how they made this fantastic film. Plus, this DVD contains a complete copy of The Hard Goodbye, which is one of the original graphic novels. It's fun DVD to have. I hope you like it!
Frank Miller Fan.......2007-05-26
This is an amazing two-disc release. Director Robert Rodriguez brilliantly brings to life Frank Miller's graphic novels, and does not hold back with the development of these gritty characters. Mickey Rourke alone deserves 5 stars for his portrayal of Marv. This set is worth having strictly on the merits of the development of that character. For anyone who has a love for the making of films and the time consuming processes involved in the "behind the scenes", the bonus disc will satisfy your appreciation for the multifaceted areas of story telling. Let's hope that when Frank Miller's "300" is released to DVD, that the extras will be just as enjoyable.

I have to give this movie five stars It is mezmerizing. I used to read a lot of comic book and graphic novels and even though I never read the Sin City novels I still read some of the dark black and white Manga. This whole movie looks and feels like a dark gothic comic book. I give it one star for the great story line another star for it`s cast, another star for the way it`s is filmed (black and white with accents of color )very cool, another star dark for the and creepy musical score and the 5th star well....I think I will just give that to Nancy .God bless you little girl.

Ancient curses, all-powerful monsters, shape-changing assassins, scantily-clad stewardesses, laser battles, huge explosions, a perfect woman, a malcontent hero--what more can you ask of a big-budget science fiction movie? Luc Besson's high-octane film incorporates presidents, rock stars, and cab drivers into its peculiar plot, traversing worlds and encountering some pretty wild aliens. Bruce Willis stars as a down-and-out cabbie who must win the love of Leeloo (Milla Jovovich) to save Earth from destruction by Jean-Baptiste Emmanuel Zorg (Gary Oldman) and a dark, unearthly force that makes Darth Vader look like an Ewok. <I>--Geoff Riley</I>

A change of heart.......2007-06-13
I first saw this film at the theater when it was first released. At the time, the slogan that went with it was "...go beyond Star Wars, go beyond Star Trek..."
Wow. That's a pretty bold statement. I had been a life long fan of both Star Trek and Star Wars as well us Luc Besson's previous work (Le Femme Nikita, and the masterful The Professional). I was really looking forward to this movie.
And then I was disappointed.
The film is visually stunning (obviously borrowing heavily from Blade Runner), but the movie was MUCH different than either Star Trek or Star Wars.
First of all, the film was VERY campy. It made no attempts to deliver a serious or believable story. Most of the characters delivered their lines as if they were all taking part in one huge inside joke.
Some of the cinematography was done is such a way that I felt as though I were watching an '80s rock video.
The special effects, however, are probably the biggest redeeming qualities of this film. They are absolutely impeccable. The costumes and set designs were very good as well.
But this movie could never even hope to hold a candle to the Star Wars or Star Trek franchise. It was more of a comedy than anything else.
To be quite honest, after I saw the movie.....I hated it.
Then came the VHS release. With some trepidation, I decided to rent it and give it another chance. This time, I knew what to expect. I knew that I wasn't going "beyond Star Trek" or "beyond Star Wars". I was able to watch the film a second time with no preconceived notions of what it was going to be like.....
.....and I ac
