    Product Description

Shot in Salzburg against the majestic Bavarian Alps, THE SOUND OF MUSIC is considered one of the greatest screen musicals ever made. Winner of five Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Director (Robert Wise), the film, based on a real family and their true events, tells the story of a young postulate, Maria (Julie Andrews), who, after proving too high-spirited for the Mother Abess and other nuns, is sent off to work as a governess to seven unruly children. The Von Trapp family is run, in military style, by the seemingly cold-hearted Captain Von Trapp (Christopher Plummer), a lonely widowed naval officer. Seeing how badly he and his children need companionship, he proposes to the Baroness Schraeder (Eleanor Parker), a calculating, mutual friend of beloved family friend Max Detweiler (Richard Haydn). It is the baroness who soon realizes that it's Maria--with her warmth and love for the children--the captain really loves. It is nearly bliss for the newly formed family who loves to sing together--except for the cloud looming over their beloved Austrian horizon: Hitler is ascending to power, forcing Von Trapp to decide whether to join the Nazi party--which he loathes--or force his family to leave their home forever. One of the most memorable scores ever written (by Rodgers and Hammerstein) and breathtaking performances by Andrews, Plummer, and the seven children mark this classic as one of the world's most favorite films.

When Julie Andrews sang "The hills are alive with the sound of music" from an Austrian mountaintop in 1965, the most beloved movie musical was born. To be sure, the adaptation of Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II's Broadway hit has never been as universally acclaimed as, say, <I>Singin' in the Rain</I>. Critics argue that the songs are saccharine (even the songwriters regretted the line "To sing through the night like a lark who is learning to pray") and that the characters and plot lack the complexity that could make them more interesting. It's not hard to know whom to root for when your choice is between cute kids and Nazis.

    <table align=left cellpadding="6" cellspacing="0" > <tr><td align="center"> <img src="http://images.amazon.com/images/G/01/dvd/aplus/charmian-carr.gif" border=0 align=top>
    <span class="tiny">Read our interview with
    Charmian Carr, who played
    Liesl von Trapp in The
Sound of Music. </span> </td></tr> </table> It doesn't matter. Audiences fell in love with the struggling novice Maria (Andrews), the dashing Captain von Trapp (Christopher Plummer), and, yes, the cute kids, all based on a real-life World War II Austrian family. Such songs as "My Favorite Things," "Do Re Mi," "Climb Every Mountain," and the title tune became part of the 20th century Zeitgeist. In addition, <I>The Sound of Music</I> officially became a cult hit when audiences in London began giving it the <I>Rocky Horror Picture Show</I> treatment, attending showings dressed as their favorite characters and delivering choreographed comments and gestures along with the movie. So why resist, especially when the 40th Anniversary Edition is the best DVD yet.

    <b>The DVDs</b>
As if the direct involvement of Julie Andrews weren't enough, the 40th Anniversary Edition of <I>The Sound of Music</I> is a must-have for fans because of the fond sense of nostalgia that will touch all but the worst cynic's heart. Andrews introduces both discs and contributes a commentary track on the film. It's a joy to hear her speak about the film (for example, she explains how she solved her dislike for the lyrics of "I Have Confidence"), and also heard are remarks by Christopher Plummer (who at one point refers to his being 48, which if true would mean his comments were made in about 1975), Charmian Carr (Liesl), choreographer Dee Dee Wood, and Johannes Von Trapp (the real-life Maria Von Trapp's youngest son, who admits that his father did have a whistle but claims that he was not as stern as portrayed in the film). Even with all those people involved, there are still significant gaps of silence, however. Retained from the previous two-disc editions is the commentary track by director Robert Wise, which during the musical numbers becomes an isolated score with no vocals. Also new are sing-along subtitles in English, Spanish, and French, which allow you to have your own sing-along at home. In addition, the film's remastering shows off a truer and much warmer sense of color.

On the second disc, Andrews participates in a new 63-minute documentary "My Favorite Things: Julie Andrews Remembers." But it's really a general making-of documentary with contributions from a number of principals, including director Robert Wise, who died in mid-2005 (not surprisingly, some stories are repeated from the commentary track and from the 87-minute documentary on the previous DVD). Andrews also shares a warm 19-minute sit-down with Christopher Plummer. Carr, who over the years has become the film's biggest advocate, narrates a new 22-minute documentary, "On Location with <I>The Sound of Music</I>," in which she revisits the places in Salzburg where the movie was filmed, and even joins one of the "<I>Sound of Music</I> tours" that have become a booming industry. And acknowledging another big industry, there's a 12-minute featurette on the sing-along phenomenon, focusing specifically on the audience, costumed and otherwise, that attended a sold-out Hollywood Bowl sing-along in 2005. Making special appearances at the event are four von Trapp great-grandchildren and all seven of the actors who played the children. Thankfully, those actors also appear in a 33-minute documentary "From Liesl to Gretl: A 40th Anniversary Reunion," in which they explain what they do now (many are still in show business) and share stories about the film, who was afraid of Christopher Plummer, and what they feel is their responsibility to the film's passionate fans. What's touching is how the group still considers themselves a family so many years later. Other material includes an A&E documentary on the von Trapps, Mia Farrow's screen test for the Liesl role, and a restoration comparison.

    <b>What's Missing?</b>
If you already own the previous two-disc editions, you'll want this 40th Anniversary Edition as well, but you might not want to toss those versions. Probably the most significant omission from this edition is the original 14-minute documentary Charmian Carr made in 1967, "Salzburg Sight and Sound." Carr's new documentary includes only a couple clips from the vintage piece. It's not a great work of art, but it's a notable loss and would have made a good contrast with the new documentary. In addition, the new making-of documentary is about 24 minutes shorter than the old one. Also missing are the audio-only features--the interviews, the radio programs, the Ernest Lehman spotlight--and the historical still gallery examining the history of Salzburg and the film. Granted, this material probably got the least play of any of the old features, but completists might want to hold onto their old discs for it. It would have also been nice to have screen tests other than Farrow's. Tests for all the children and for Christopher Plummer (including singing in his own voice before he was dubbed for the film) were included on Hollywood something and Rodgers and Hammerstein: The Sound of the Movies. Again, they're not critical but it would have been nice to have them all in one place. So maybe the 40th Anniversary Edition isn't the complete package on <I>The Sound of Music</I>, but it's the most satisfying edition yet, with enough new material to please even the veteran <I>SoM</I> DVD watcher. <I>--David Horiuchi</I>

Filmmaker Robert Zemeckis topped his breakaway hit <I>Romancing the Stone</I> with <I>Back to the Future</I>, a joyous comedy with a dazzling hook: what would it be like to meet your parents in their youth? Billed as a special-effects comedy, the imaginative film (the top box-office smash of 1985) has staying power because of the heart behind Zemeckis and Bob Gale's script. High schooler Marty McFly (Michael J. Fox, during the height of his TV success) is catapulted back to the '50s where he sees his parents in their teens, and accidentally changes the history of how Mom and Dad met. Filled with the humorous ideology of the '50s, filtered through the knowledge of the '80s (actor Ronald Reagan is president, ha!), the film comes off as a <I>Twilight Zone</I> episode written by Preston Sturges. Filled with memorable effects and two wonderfully off-key, perfectly cast performances: Christopher Lloyd as the crazy scientist who builds the time machine (a DeLorean luxury car) and Crispin Glover as Marty's geeky dad. <I>--Doug Thomas</I>

Critics and audiences didn't seem too happy with <I>Back to the Future, Part II</I>, the inventive, perhaps too clever sequel. Director Zemeckis and cast bent over backwards to add layers of time-travel complication, and while it surely exercises the brain it isn't necessarily funny in the same way that its predecessor was. It's well worth a visit, though, just to appreciate the imagination that went into it, particularly in a finale that has Marty watching his own actions from the first film. <I>--Tom Keogh</I>

Shot back-to-back with the second chapter in the trilogy, <I>Back to the Future, Part III</I> is less hectic than that film and has the same sweet spirit of the first, albeit in a whole new setting. This time, Marty ends up in the Old West of 1885, trying to prevent the death of mad scientist Christopher Lloyd at the hands of gunman Buford "Mad Dog" Tannen (Thomas F. Wilson, who had a recurring role as the bully Biff). Director Zemeckis successfully blends exciting special effects with the traditions of a Western and comes up with something original and fun. <I>--Tom Keogh</I>

One of the key movies of the 1970s, when exciting, groundbreaking, personal films were still being made in Hollywood, Milos Forman's One Flew over the Cuckoo's Nest emphasized the humanistic story at the heart of Ken Kesey's more hallucinogenic novel. Jack Nicholson was born to play the part of Randle Patrick McMurphy, the rebellious inmate of a psychiatric hospital who fights back against the authorities' cold attitudes of institutional superiority, as personified by Nurse Ratched (Louise Fletcher). It's the classic antiestablishment tale of one man asserting his individuality in the face of a repressive, conformist system--and it works on every level. Forman populates his film with memorably eccentric faces, and gets such freshly detailed and spontaneous work from his ensemble that the picture sometimes feels like a documentary. Unlike a lot of films pitched at the "youth culture" of the 1970s, One Flew over the Cuckoo's Nest really hasn't dated a bit, because the qualities of human nature that Forman captures--playfulness, courage, inspiration, pride, stubbornness--are universal and timeless. The film swept the Academy Awards for 1976, winning in all the major categories (picture, director, actor, actress, screenplay) for the first time since Frank Capra's It Happened One Night in 1931. --Jim Emerson

        Description

A nice rest in a state mental hospital beats a stretch in the pen, right? Randle P. McMurphy (Jack Nicholson), a free-spirited con with lightning in his veins and glib on his tongue, fakes insanity and moves in with what he calls the "nuts." Immediately, his contagious sense of disorder runs up against numbing routine. No way should guys pickled on sedatives shuffle around in bathrobes when the World Series is on. This means war! On one side is McMurphy. On the other is soft-spoken Nurse Ratched (Louise Fletcher), among the most coldly monstrous villains in film history. At stake is the fate of every patient on the ward. Based on Ken Kesey's acclaimed bestseller, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest swept all five major 1975 Academy Awards: Best Picture (produced by Saul Zaentz and Michael Douglas), Actor (Nicholson), Actress (Fletcher), Director (Milos Forman) and Adapted Screenplay (Lawrence Hauben and Bo Goldman). Raucous, searing and with a superb cast that includes Brad Dourif, Danny DeVito, Christopher Lloyd in his film debut, this one soars. <P><b>DVD Features:</b>

5 out of 5 stars Test Your Might Mortal Kmobat........2007-04-24

Now of all the great action movies that was created in the 90's this one was the best action movie ever in the 90's or probaltly the best of all. because everytime you here the song mortal kombat man you be wanting to in there and fight. Im sorry but no fighting song beats that song. My favorite fight scene was when Johnny Cage fought Scorpion Get over here. Sonja Blade well she was alright but she kicked some but a liked kitana more. Or lets not forget about lord rayden the part were he electocuted Scorpian and Sub-Zero. And last but not least Liu Kang I also liked the liked the fight scene between him and Reptile and when he finaly beat the mesh out of Shang Tsung. And don't get me wrong but I also liked Street Fighters as well but I like Mortal Kombat much more. My only wish is that they didnt kill off Johnny Cage in part 2 that was what sunk the Franchise down and Jax was Corny please why did they have to have him in this movies?

5 out of 5 stars unusual film for all the times.......2007-01-28

The movie become popular from the first moment and for fans, i think, it still stays the same.

This has to be one of the best martial arts films I've seen. It has amazing special effects and outstanding fight scenes, with a balance in between so you're not going straight from one fight to another.

The storyline works well and the soundtrack is great. There is a little bit of comedy one-liners, mostly courtesy of Liu Kang (Robin Shou) but for the most part, this is a serious film. The other thing that makes it good is that you don't need to have played the game to enjoy or understand the movie. My only criticism would be the lack of reality-at the end, Liu Kang has been beaten up, in two fights, received some hard blows and isn't even bruised.

        1 out of 5 stars heinous.......2006-11-07

This is the most terrible, emotionally offensive film ever created. After watching this movie, my eyes began to bulge from my head and limbs began to fall off. Watch this movie if you like the feeling of having your organs ruptured.

5 out of 5 stars Still love it.......2006-08-31

When this movie came out, I was twelve years old and horribly afraid of being caught out as not old enough to see a PG-13 movie without an adult. In spite of that fear however, I saw this movie no less than seven times in the theatre alone. Now at almost 23 years old, I can say that this movie still makes me giddy with enjoyment. I love Liu Kang, Raiden and especially Reptile. Annihilation didn't come close to matching this movie. They couldn't keep the actors from the first film, Johnny Cage died in the first five seconds and the actor who had replaced Christopher Lambert as Raiden was terrible. But this movie, this movie captured my imagination over and over again and will likely continue to do so.

4 out of 5 stars Great. A little better than annihilation.......2006-08-23

This movie is great, but I have to say that christopher lambert and the person that dubbed him sucked. I am going to put a list of characters from both movies, and next to the name, I'm going to put which movie had the best character, the 1st movie, or the 2nd movie(annihilation).

Liu Kang - same guy, but he is great in his part.

Kitana - same girl, shes pretty good

Sonya - tie, brigette wilson(first movie) was better at martial arts, and sandra hess(annihilation) is better at acting.

Jax - first movie, even though he's only at the beginning. Believe it or not, I'm pretty sure that he's on screen for less than 60 seconds.

Johnny Cage - he's pretty much the only choice because in annihilation johnny gets his neck twisted at the very beginning. He does'nt even say anything. But Sonya said,Johnny!! And she menchins Johnny throughout the movie because they were a couple.

Raiden - annihilation, because he sounds like raiden and he does'nt look like a freak.

If you don't have annihilation yet, than get the mortal kombat 2 pack of this movie and annhilation for only $26.99.

This zany, eye-popping, knee-slapping landmark in combining animation with live-action ingeniously makes that uneasy combination itself (and the history of Hollywood) its subject. Who Framed Roger Rabbit is based on classic L.A. private-eye movies (and, specifically, Chinatown), with detective Eddie Valiant (Bob Hoskins) investigating a case involving adultery, blackmail, murder, and a fiendish plot to replace Los Angeles's once-famous Red Car public transportation system with the automobiles and freeways that would later make it the nation's smog capital. Of course, his sleuthing takes him back to the place he dreads: Toontown, the ghetto for cartoons that abuts Hollywood and that was the site of a tragic incident in Eddie's past. In addition to intermingling cartoon characters with live actors and locations, <I>Roger Rabbit</I> also brings together the greatest array of cartoon stars in the history of motion pictures, from a variety of studios (Disney, Warner Bros., MGM, Fleischer, Universal, and elsewhere): Betty Boop, Bugs Bunny, Mickey Mouse, Woody Woodpecker, Droopy Dog, and more! And, of course, there's Maroon Cartoon's greatest star, Roger Rabbit (voice by Charles Fleischer), who suspects his ultracurvaceous wife, Jessica Rabbit (voice by Kathleen Turner: "I'm not bad; I'm just drawn that way"), of infidelity. Directed by Robert Zemeckis (Back to the Future, Forrest Gump, Contact), not since the early Looney Tunes' "You Oughtta Be in Pictures" has there been anything like Roger Rabbit. --Jim Emerson

        Description

It's 1947 Hollywood, and Eddie Valiant (Bob Hoskins), a down-on-his-luck detective, is hired to find proof that Marvin Acme, gag factory mogul and owner of Toontown, is playing hanky-panky with femme fatale Jessica Rabbit, wife of Maroon Cartoon superstar Roger Rabbit. When Acme is found murdered, all fingers point to Roger, and the sinister, power-hungry Judge Doom (Christopher Lloyd) is on a mission to bring Roger to justice. Roger begs the Toon-hating Valiant to find the real evildoer and the plot thickens as Eddie uncovers scandal after scandal and realizes the very existence of Toontown is at stake! WHO FRAMED ROGER RABBIT is deliciously outrageous fun the whole family will enjoy.

It's Bogey meets Bugs Bunny when 'toon-loathing detective Eddie Valiant (Bob Hoskins) is the lone hope of the irascible and irritating Roger Rabbit (voiced by Charles Fleischer) to prove his innocence when he is accused of murder. Set in the 1940s in a shadowy world reminiscent of the noir classics, Who Framed Roger Rabbit combines Disney and Warner Brothers cartoon creations in the same scenes. Randy, red-haired Jessica Rabbit (voiced by Amy Irving and Kathleen Turner) is one of the more enduring new noir characters and as it should be, it's the diabolical dame who's believed to be the root of all evil. The DVD is loaded with featurettes, and is well worth the price. (Fans of the movie should definitely read the book, as well. Warning: it's much more adult than the film!)

This is a DVD you should own if you enjoyed this movie that came out nearly 20 years ago! It offers you the inside story on the behind the scenes production and the animation. It was too bad they didn't make a sequel for Roger Rabbit! Bob Hoskins was wonderful in this film. Still, its good entertainment for everyone!

Everyone knows the story. Rabbit meets girl. Rabbit loses girl. Rabbit save Toontown. Rabbit gets girl in the end. It's as old as the movies.

Wait, 'Rabbit gets girl'?! Yes, it's true, and so well done to be astonishing. Bob Hoskins is fabulous in his role, selling everything he does. And Charles Fleischer as Roger Rabbit sets a modern standard for zany. It's just a shame that Disney went cheap on us so we can't have more Roger Rabbit tales (NYUK, NYUK, pun intended). Get the dip for the fuddy-duddies that let this classic character slip through their hands. More Roger Rabbit!

Undoubtedly the first movie in history to have played in theaters with three different endings (depending on which theater you attended), <I>Clue</I> is a silly whodunit based on the familiar board game featuring Colonel Mustard, Mrs. Peacock, and all the other usual suspects. A broadly comic cast play the sundry suspects gathered in a mansion to solve a murder, knowing that one of their numbers is the culprit. Michael McKean, Eileen Brennan, and Tim Curry are the best of the bunch, and the film is as lightweight an experience as a round of the game itself. Directed by Jonathan Lynn (<I>My Cousin Vinny</I>). The video release contains all three endings. <I>--Tom Keogh</I>

        5 out of 5 stars hilarious movie.......2007-06-02

This is one of my favorite movies and has been since I was a little kid. I'm not sure it would hold up to most people's tastes, but it makes me laugh every time. Some of the best movie quotes made into inside jokes. Playing the game when I was little only made some of the references more amusing.

One of the best parts is the end - there are three! You can watch one randomly or all three. Something I wish would happen more often with silly movies made nowadays.

        2 out of 5 stars 80's Classic.......2007-05-13

This movie has an all-star cast, including Christopher Lloyd, Tim Curry, Eileen Brennan, and Madeline Khan. But the movie is just not funny at all. The only good thing about this movie besides the cast is the 3 different surprise endings.

5 out of 5 stars The greatest of all comedys that is totally under appecttied.......2007-04-20

Who wouldn't love it when Wadesworth tells everyone how and where the murder's are committed in his super fast and comical way. You actually get to run with the six suspects as Wadesworth re tells what everyone was doing during each murder.

How about when Scarlett and Mustard were locked in the parlor with the dead driver and they were shouting to let them out. "Let us out! Let us Out!" oh and don't forget Plum and Greene trying to open the door "Let us in! Let us in!" How about when Yvette shoots at the door and misses and hit's the candler and freaks out everyone. Plum and Greene drop to the floor over each other as Yvette finally shoots the lock off; while inside the parlor Scarlett and Mustard are screaming at being shot at. How about Mustard's line "I have been shot" before the lock is blown away. Also when he marches out of the room and shouts that he couldn't take another shock to the nerves that night and the chandler comes crashing down.

CLUE is the one of the greatest comedy's that has been saddly and totally under appecitted. If you enjoy playing the game than you will enjoy this great movie with all these great and wonderful actors.

Goes great with the board game. My son loves the movie.

4 out of 5 stars A Very Funny Movie, With An All-Star Cast.......2007-02-26

I saw this movie at the theaters when it first came out, with what was termed ending A (the final ending of the three on the video). It was fun seeing the other endings, though it was obvious that some of the footage was used in more than one of the endings (for example, all the endings had Tim Curry stating that communism was a red herring -- actually, I'm laughing more at typing it than at hearing it said).

One thing I'll comment -- The Go Go's' Jane Wieldin had a short lived (literally) role in this movie. She was great in her role, and I found it to be a great dark humor moment.

It is rare I see a comedy done this effectively with an ensemble cast. Curry's Wadsworth seems to take the lead role, but the remainder of the cast hold their own.

So to make a long review short . . . I know. "Too late!"

          <b>The Addams Family</b>
Director Barry Sonnenfeld (Men in Black) brings his distinctly cartoonish sensibility to this feature film version of the old Charles Addams comic strip. Anjelica Huston was born to play Morticia Addams, matriarch of the ghoulish Addams clan, while the late Raul Julia is a very agreeable, lusty Gomez. But it's Christina Ricci who arguably steals the show as their stone-faced daughter, Wednesday. As is often the problem with adaptations of comics or television shows, somehow an original story has to be implemented that doesn't clutter things up. But clutter is an issue here as the script gets tangled on a lame plot concerning efforts to steal the Addams' house and fortune. Still, it's fun to see an ideal cast reanimate an old favorite. --Tom Keogh

          <b>The Addams Family Values</b>
This somewhat more cohesive follow-up to The Addams Family has the same director, Barry Sonnenfeld (Men in Black), but a better story line. Joan Cusack plays a busty gold digger who ingratiates herself into the Addams home and convinces Uncle Fester (Christopher Lloyd) that she wants to marry him. Besides Lloyd, the cast includes Anjelica Huston and Raul Julia, ideal as those Brontëan lovers, Morticia and Gomez. But Christina Ricci again walks away with the best moments as the chilly Wednesday Addams, making life miserable for two camp counselors (Peter MacNicol and Christine Baranski) who want her to fit in with other kids.--Tom Keogh

          Description

The Addams Family - When long-lost Uncle Fester (Christopher Lloyd) reappears after twenty-five years in the Bermuda Triangle, Gomez (Raul Julia) and Morticia (Anjelica Huston) plan a celebration to wake the dead. But Wednesday (Christina Ricci) barely has time to warm up her electric chair before Thing points out Fester's uncommonly "normal" behavior. Could this Fester be a fake, part of an evil scheme to raid the Addams fortune? Based on Charles Addams' beloved cartoons and following the success of the hit TV series, The Addams Family is a visual funhouse, packed with plenty of treats, tricks and turns by director Barry Sonnenfeld. The Addams Family Values - It's love at first fright when Gomez (Raul Julia) and Morticia (Anjelica Huston) welcome a new addition to the Addams household - Pubert, their soft, cuddly, mustachioed baby boy. As Fester (Christopher Lloyd) falls hard for voluptuous nanny Debbie Jilinsky (Joan Cusack), Wednesday (Christina Ricci) and Pugsley (Jimmy Workman) discover she's a black-widow murderess who plans to add Fester to her collection of dead husbands. The family's future grows even bleaker when the no-good nanny marries Fester and has the kids shipped off to summer camp. But Wednesday still has a Thing or two up her sleeve...

<I>Mannequin</I> is notionally a romantic comedy in which Andrew McCarthy plays a luckless department-store employee and Kim Cattrall (<I>Sex and the City</I>) is an Egyptian princess reincarnated as a shop-window dummy, who comes to life when she encounters McCarthy, only to revert to mannequin status when anyone else is watching her. With her encouragement, he becomes emboldened in his career as a window decorator as well as falling in love with the princess. James Spader's oily, stammering executive is just one of the many examples of a film that tries way too hard to be funny, the sort of characterization that would be barely adequate for a TV commercial, let alone a 90-minute movie. Still, for fans of <I>Sex and the City</I> who might want to feast upon the spectacle of a younger Kim Cattrall, <I>Mannequin</I> might offer a measure of relief. <I>--David Stubbs</I>

          Description

A charming romantic comedy starring Andrew McCarthy (Pretty in Pink), Kim Cattrall ('sex andthe City ), Meshach Taylor ( Designing Women ), Estelle Getty ('the Golden Girls ) and James Spader(Stargate), Mannequin is more than the sum of its fiberglass body parts it's all heart! Jonathan Switcher (McCarthy) has certainly been living up to his name. A frustrated artist, he switches from one dead-end job to another, never managing to hold on to any of them. But all of that changes when a mannequin he created for a department store window comes magically to life! Gorgeous and statuesque, this fiberglass femme fatale (Cattrall) helps Jonathan turn his career around, inspiring him to be the best window dresser in town. But she soon discovers that the real world isn't so easy, when they run into competitors who want to put them out of businessfor good!

          3 out of 5 stars Pygmalion.......2007-05-25

I thought this was an odd movie even when it first came out. It was strange, no doubt about that. But I had never heard of Pygmalion and didn't realize it was a sort of 80s version of it. Still, it made for a few light hearted moments and silly humor.

Andrew McCarthy plays an artist type named Jonathan who can't seem to hold a job because he insists on throwing a creative spin onto everything and can't do it like the boss wants. He lands a job at a department store, mostly in the hope of pursuing a dummy that he had created on a previous job. (Weird) She comes to life, and is actually a floating spirt named Emmy from ancient Egypt who is looking to be reincarnated in a more suitable time for women. They go through some madcap adventures while it's just the two of them in the store at night (kind of like the future children's book series of Eloise at the Plaza), and they begin to create their own store window designs. This attracts the attention of the public, and they reboost the store's popularity and revenue.

This was a cute idea, no doubt about that, but the movie tries too hard to create madcap adventures with the other cast of characters. Hollywood the fellow store designer is so over the top gay. The jealous store executive, the rivals at the other department store, and the semi psychotic security guard make for a few funny moments, but they are inflated and you know their half baked ideas will fail in the end and Jonathan will triumph. And all the scenes where Emmy turns back into a dummy when others are around is a little too trite. Still, it's a good time.

"Mannequin" is about a guy who gets hired to work on window displays for an upscale "Neiman Marcusesque" store.

The guy discovers that a mannequin that he works with at the store is actually a woman, who was put under an ancient Egyptian curse!

The film is entertaining, fun, and delightful!

Highly recommended for anyone 18 and over due to some inappropriate dialogue.

I received this product in perfect condition. My order was received prior to the expected day, which I was very grateful for. It was difficult finding this movie in local stores, Amazon had a great variety of and recommendations to choose from. I would definetly recommed this classic 80's movie.

This is not the original, it is very tacky, and poorly done. We were disappointed in it

This movie I grew up watching I love it. Product was as promised. If only things like this could happen in real life. :)

Although <I>Chisum</I> stars John Wayne--playing a benign variation on his <I>Red River</I> empire-builder --he's curiously sidelined in this umpteenth retelling of Pat Garrett, William Bonney, and the Lincoln County War. Sam Peckinpah would direct the world-class version of that götterdämmerung, <I>Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid</I>, three years later. This version, directed by Andrew V. McLaglen in a slightly less broad vein than usual, is just odd--not least because it omits Garrett and Bonney's celebrated final confrontation. Geoffrey Deuel's Billy is a pleasant juvenile who scarcely seems delinquent, let alone murderously psychotic. Glenn Corbett's characterization of Garrett consists mainly of wearing a seriously BIG hat. There's an irksome rivalry for Chisum's perky niece (Pamela McMyler), and a Dominic Frontiere score that's the Western equivalent of elevator music. Chief scoundrel Forrest Tucker seems bored, but Christopher George, Richard Jaeckel, and Bruce Cabot get some juice into their villainy. <I>--Richard T. Jameson</I>

              Description

Chisum showcases John Wayne in the twilight of his remarkable 200+-film career. As John Chisum, a real-life cattle king determined to protect his empire against a land-grabbing developer (Forrest Tucker). Wayne's no-nonsense persona snugly fits this lively reworking of the events of New Mexico's 1878 Lincoln County War. "Directed in fine sagebrush style by Andrew V. McLaglen and beautifully photographed by William H. Clothier" (The Warner Bros. Story), Chisum is the kind of sweeping, brawling Western that made Wayne endure as a star.
