Sure it's a cheap T.V. movie, but at 10 years old it sacred the ...............2007-04-06
This is yet another of those late night movies that I watched growing up(with every light that I could turned on and feet firmly on the couch) and when I found this one for a dollar I grabed it up. I must say that it's not as good as I thought it was, but I had fun watching it again and yes I kept my feet on the couch.
Rare made-for-TV movie finally on DVD!.......2006-12-15
"Tarantulas: The Deadly Cargo" is a 1977 made-for-TV movie which has been out of print on VHS for many years, and now is available on a licensed Canadian DVD (if not in stock on Amazon, it can easily be bought on ebay). It has very good picture quality, and was not taken from a VHS or poor analog source by the looks of it.
The movie itself is, well, pretty bad. I say this mostly because of the ridiculous plot and "facts" that are brought up in the movie. I've owned a Rose Hair Tarantula for some 15 years, and of course love watching any spider or tarantula movies. I remember seeing Deadly Cargo when I was a kid on TV, and spent years trying to track it down on VHS. This DVD looks much better than the VHS copy I managed to get a year or so ago.
SPOILER:
The "expert" in the movie reveals that this mix of large Mexican orange/red nee and desert tarantulas aren't tarantulas.. but are the deadly brown recluse spiders instead! Yep, because while there are actually no tarantulas whose bites are deadly to humans, they are big and therefore scarier, than the small brown recluse spiders. Gotta love those 70's made for TV movies!
If you're looking for a "good" killer tarantula film, I'd recommend KINGDOM OF THE SPIDERS starring William Shatner. While it's obvious some animals were hurt during the making of the movie, it's well above this movie. And for killer spider movies, ARACHNAPHOBIA is the way to go.
Remember, spiders and tarantulas are our friends!
Unbelieveably Bad in Every Way.......2006-09-18
Maybe not ALL ways--it WAS only 97 minutes long.
I usually like creature vs. humans movies...I even liked "Kingdom of the Spiders"...but this one was just plain stupid. No one could willingly suspend his/her disbelief to the extent necessary to find the story anything but eye-rollingly idiotic.
Best Tarantula Movie Ever!! Deborah Winters rule!!.......2004-04-15
In this movie starring the breatakingly beautiful Deborah Winters is about a plane from South America loaded with coffee and unknowingly a deadly hoard of tarantulas that crashes near a small California town with the tarantulas escaping and victimizing that unfortunate town. It's a must see movie!!!

Total Waste of Time.......2005-08-11
I think I found a winner for the most boring film of the year or maybe of all time: Looking through Lillian. This film is about a prostitute who services an old guy and she decides to get out of the trade. This film is 90 minutes of totally inept dialogue, amateurish acting and a total lack of direction. It almost seems like the actors slipped away from their day jobs during lunch to quickly make this film, and then go back to their day jobs. Poor production qualities all around, I really don't recommend this film at all, in fact, I recommend to stay away from it at all costs.
Beware watching this movie may cause impotency.......2005-03-05
This movie has to be the most boring movie that I have seen....absolutely no plot and cannot hold a viewers attention. Thank goodness for fast forward!
Don't waste you time on this one.....can cause impotency as well.
More Than Jake..........2003-12-09
Lillian (Jade Henham) earns her keep playing mistress to wealthy married businessman Sam Bottoms. But when a stranger unexpectedly enters her life, she's forced to reevaluate her lifestyle. Sound cliche'? Believe me, it's not! First time director Jake Torem and co-writer Henham take what could have been a standard "girl caught up in circumstances beyond her control" story and focus on the characters. The surprising thing is that whenever the story pulls a surprise (and there are a few)it feels justified because the characters are so well drawn out. Director Torem is to be commended for maintaing a difficult balancing act of the film's subject matter without spiraling down into the kind of distracting self-indulgence that a Lynch or Tarantino would. Erotic, endearing without being sappy, and very well directed, LOOKING THROUGH LILLIAN is a rare gem of a film you won't want to miss.
The DVD has Deleted Scenes and Audio Commentary by Torem and Henham with a film critic. The behind the scenes stuff is as good as the movie (your jaw will hit the floor when you find out the film's budget and shooting schedule).
LOOKING THROUGH LILLIAN won 1st Place at the Houston Film Festival a few years back. Pick up this disc and you'll see why.
