Customer Reviews:
My Favorite Season.......2007-06-11
This is by far my favorite season overall. X-Files fans will not be disappointed.
Expect the unexpected.......2007-05-08
As each of the seasons progress, X-Files just gets better and better. Mulder and Scully don't dispoint. This season contains episodes that get you on the edge of your seat. X-Files takes your imagination beyond the world of Science Fiction. Expect the unexpected.
X-Cool.......2007-03-20
It was so cool i bought the whole series. the package got here in time and it plays great! Excellent job! Excellent!!
conduct.......2007-03-08
The fourth season has all of it. Cancer, the smoking mans past, school kids getting whipped out by a disease carried by bees, and yes all other sorts of Mulder/Scully goodness. Almost complete perfection has been met by Chris Carter along with fellow writers and actors in this season.
Technical Notes On The Slim Sets.......2007-02-26
I wanted to point out something technical about the slim set discs that I bought. If you're looking for insight into the episodes or characters - please look elsewhere.
When I put the first disc of Season One into my DVD player, it started the "loading" process and gave me a disc error after about one minute. Instead of cursing Fox (well, I did it later anyway) I turned the player off, leaving the disc inside. After a couple of minutes, I turned my DVD player on and Viola! I heard the X-Files theme and saw the menus (after the obligatory FBI copyright infringement warnings).
For those wondering, the DVD player in question above is a Philips Progressive Scan. The same problem occurred on a newer Panasonic player. No glitches materialized when I tried the discs on the Sony or AKAI players. In all cases, I was eventually able to get to the episodes. With the first two the screen sometimes showed up scrambled and the menus inaccessible. On other occasions I was able to access a root menu similar to one you would see if you "explore" the DVD contents on a PC (Video_TS files, etc.), though the players would not load any content from these menus. Speaking of PC viewing, I experienced no problems with any of the discs on my PC and all four programs my PC has to play DVDs functioned perfectly.
PLEASE DON'T READ INTO THIS TOO MUCH. I don't work for Fox - I'm not trying to encourage sales of the more expensive sets. This was just a personal experience I had, and it seemed to occur less frequently with Seasons 4 - 9. My uneducated opinion: the equipment I have isn't top of the line, and maybe wasn't equipped to handle the way the content was compressed. I was impressed that 4, sometimes 5 episodes were squeezed on one disc. That's three - almost four hours of content. I know - dual layer DVDs and blah, blah, blah. But c'mon - even Lord of the Rings - Return of the King was issued on 2 discs! (By the way, the content looked and sounded great.)
Another side note: Seasons 1 - 4 that I got were full frame, and 5 - 9 are widescreen. At first I thought I had missed the option when purchasing these discs, but these are the only way I've found them at retail stores and online. Nothing major; I just thought I was losing my mind at first. (Which is still a possibility.) I can't remember if they aired this way on television - I just noticed that the cinematography got revved up a bit starting with Season 5. If this observation is incorrect, someone please feel free to correct me.
Okay. If you have read this entire review give yourself a pat on the back, a cookie, I dunno - watch some old Doctor Who episodes or something. A better price, better packaging, and better for you. (They were giving out a carton of Morley's with the bigger sets, right?) By the way - the 5 stars is based on my overall X-Files enjoyment. Sure, there are episodes I can skip through. But for me, it's good bang for the buck. Enjoy!

Charge your micro-mini cell phones and whip up some orange mocha Frappuccino, 'cuz <I>Zoolander</I> is on the runway, and you're gonna laugh your booty off! Based on a sketch created by writer-director Ben Stiller and cowriter Drake Sather for the 1996 VH1/Vogue Fashion Awards, <I>Zoolander</I> is a delirious send-up of New York's fashion scene as epitomized by male model Derek Zoolander (Stiller), a dimwitted preener who's oblivious to a <I>Manchurian Candidate</I>-like plot to turn him into a brainwashed assassin. Tipped off by a reporter (Christina Taylor), Zoolander teams with rival model Hansel (Owen Wilson) to foil the poodle-haired fashion designer (Will Ferrell) who's behind the nefarious scheme. The goofy plot's only half the fun; with roles for Stiller's parents (Jerry Stiller and Anne Meara), dozens of celebrity cameos, endlessly quotable dialogue, and improvisational energy to spare, <I>Zoolander</I> is very smart about being very stupid, easily matching the <I>Austin Powers</I> franchise for inspired comedic lunacy. <I>--Jeff Shannon</I>

Pimpin' Zoolander Review.......2007-06-11
This movie is HILARIOUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I loved it so so so so so so so so so much. It is a great plot, and quite creative. Your an idiot not to buy this movie!!
What can you say about Ben?.......2007-05-13
Ben Stiller is hysterical in this unique comedy set in the world of jet-setting male models. Stiller has once again knocked it out of the park with his hysterical portrayal of Derrick Zoolander. Blue Steel and Magnum forever!!!
Zoolander DVD.......2007-04-11
Not everyone I watched it with or spoke to about it liked this movie but I'm a big Ben Stiller fan and I thought this spoof on male models was hilarious! I guess it just depends on your sense of humor!
FAST SERVICE!.......2007-03-10
thank you for your quick service! i received the movie in less than a week.
Fun Movie.......2007-03-08
I have enjoyed watching this movie several times. It is a bit off-beat but hilarious. Ben Stiller & Owen Wilson are 2 of my favorite actors. The humor is "ridiculously" funny. It does have about 2 scenes that are a bit "risque" so you might want to be aware of that with kids but overall a comedy worth seeing.

By its third season, <I>The X-Files</I> had grown from a cult hit to a global phenomenon, becoming the most popular show in many countries outside the U.S. Armed with the knowledge that the show was here to stay, series creator Chris Carter expanded its mythology, and the 24 episodes in this boxed set represent arguably the strongest of all the <I>X-Files</I> seasons. As usual, stand-alone episodes explored the paranormal and sometimes terrifying possibilities in mythology, pop culture, and religion. Darin Morgan helps the show to mature by expanding its use of humor, directing classic episodes such as "Clyde Bruckman's Final Repose" (featuring a fabulous performance from Peter Boyle) and "Jose Chung's 'From Outer Space.'" Meanwhile, two-part episodes continue to delve into the <I>X-Files</I>' own mythology, introducing the alien black oil, the implant in Scully's neck, the mysterious Agent X, and the shape-shifting Jeremiah Smith. But following the complex mythology is not crucial to enjoying the show. The strength of the <I>X-Files</I> lies not in resolution but in feeding the paranoia of its rabid audience by revealing conspiracies that linger in the mind as unanswered questions. Series creator Carter realized wisely that fans did not look to the <I>X-Files</I> to explain the unexplained, but to question that which they thought they understood. The third season was effective because it hinted that while the truth was out there, it was more complex, sinister, and amazing than even Mulder had imagined. <I>--Eugene Wei</I>
Description
This season, series creator Chris Carter expanded the mythology with plots like the alien black oil and Scully's implant, but also further developed the show's trademark humor and continued to explore paranormal possibilities.
Customer Reviews:
One of my favorite seasons.......2007-03-27
I like all of the X files, but especially the first few seasons, before it was picked up by mainstream Hollywood.
The Mythology Continues to Evolve Amidst Humor.......2007-03-05
A decent continuation of the series, as the mythology continues to form. While there is plenty of stock fare involving "little greenish-gray men with oversized heads and eyes", the real stand-outs in this series are those involving quirky humor, both black and side-splitting. Some of these are:
Clyde Bruckman's Final Repose - A psychic serial killer stalks other psychics and fortune tellers, with reluctant psychic Clyde Bruckman, played to bizarre perfection by Peter Boyle, enlisted by Mulder to assist. Bruckman predicts Mulders means of death many years hence, involving a length of rope, some hand cream and an erotic video. One of the best of all nine seasons.
D.P.O. - Giovanni Ribisi and his "best bud" Jack Black are Beavis and Butt-Head types who while away their miserable lives by throwing lightning bolts at folks they don't like.
2Shy - A mysterious scholar feeds vampire like on women he meets through internet chat sites, siphoning off their body fat in order to survive. A (blackly) humorous study of online dating.
Revelations - Mulder and Scully reverse roles, as Scully funds herself drawn into a contest between a young stigmatic and the human personification of the Devil.
War of the Coprophages - Everyone hates cockroaches, and the producers of the show engage in a humorous free for all that will have your skin crawling. And what was that that just crawled across the TV screen? Genuinely funny episode.
Syzygy - Marcie and Terrie have a birthday on the worst of all possible days, from a cosmic perspective. A nod to the classic film, "Carrie". A very funny episode, and one of my favorites.

I love the X-files. Big fan and these DVD's were great.
Excellent quality and televison.......2007-01-03
These DVDs have been digital remastered for top-notch visual quality - you will not be disappointed. The third season of the X-Files is my personal favorite. By now, the story telling, music, and special effects have matured. Despite the temporary departure of Glen Morgan and James Wong, Chris Carter's writing team delivered an excellent set of 24 episodes.

The definitive American television series of the '90s comes to the big screen with an anticlimactic whimper. And how could it be otherwise? Why should material so perfectly realized in one medium necessarily translate well into another? The series is crisply and thoughtfully executed in just about every detail, but the heart of its appeal lies in the elegant handling of complicated and evolving ongoing story lines, which is not something movies are especially good at. The big-screen drive for closure cramps the creative style, though it may also help nonfans get a grip on the proceedings. We do get some invigorating thrills and chills, however, and a more satisfying sense of the scale of an all-enveloping human-alien conspiracy than ever before, but there's no more plot development here than in an average two-part season-ending. FBI black sheep Mulder and Scully have been temporarily transferred from the X-Files project to an anti-terrorist unit to investigate an Oklahoma City-style bombing. They uncover a new wrinkle in the Syndicate/Cancer Man conspiracy--basically an attempt to help one bunch of (benign?) aliens fight off another bunch who want to colonize Earth. A spectacular, ice-bound finale thrillingly staged by series-veteran director Rob Bowman offers Mulder (but not a conveniently unconscious Scully) his first clear look at a You Know What, which in some quarters qualifies as an epochal event. Martin Landau offers the agents some crucial clues, and several familiar TV faces (including the Lone Gunmen and Mitch Pileggi's indispensable Assistant Director Skinner) turn up briefly to wink knowingly at faithful fans. --David Chute
Description
Thirty-seven thousand years ago, a deadly secret was buried in a cave in Texas. Now the secret has been unleashed. Love the X Files!.......2007-06-12
I loved the weekly episodes of the X Files, so I wasn't disappointed with the movie. This 1998 film version of the Science Fiction series focuses on Agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully as they try to determine why a bomb was used to cover up the true reasons the bodies of three firemen and a young boy were found in the wreckage, but they died earlier and in a different location! Dana and Fox soon find themselves tracing a deadly virus with extraterrestrial origins. When Scully is infected with the virus, Mulder races to find her after getting his hands on the antidote.
Entertaining enough, but too many open ends for the casual fan.......2007-05-25
Despite being a big sci-Fi fan, I never got into the X-Files as a kid.
Like most non-fans, I just didn't have the patience for it. The show would hint at a lot, but it seemed very little would actually happen, and instead each show would just tease us a little more.
The reason I decided to watch the movie was because I thought that the movie would probably be designed for a wider audience, have a self-contained story, and lots more excitement and special effects than the TV show.
Well, kind of. There were more explosions and the special effects were a bit more snazzy. And it was very easy to jump right into it and pick up the story without much knowledge of the TV show. But, in typical X-files fashion, it teased a lot more than it delivered, and the ending was very unsatisfying.
To be fair, I realize this was intentional on the film maker's part. And in the director's commentary, the director repeatedly bragged about leaving things vague in order to make them scarier to the imagination. But, is it just me, or does anyone else think the X-files were never all that scary to begin with?
dwan.......2007-05-15
Great movie. My son is collecting all X-file series and movies and he totally loved this movie. received the movie the very next day just as guaranteed
Not Bad, Could Have Been Better.......2007-04-26
Anyone who's ever watched a Sci-Fi movie or television show knows this: It's easy to make an alien look stupid. Especially the typical big head bug-eyes fellows. But the aliens in "The X-Files: Fight the Future" are very well done. They are horrifying, maybe because of the little screen time they get. The few violent scenes we do get are not overdone, and that is one of the good parts of this movie.
Another good part? The music. The variations to the theme that played throughout a few of the scenes were especially entertaining. However, I wasn't ALL that impressed. Here's why...
NEGATIVES...
- The middle was a bit on the slow side, and after such an explosive beginning, that doesn't work for me.
- The climax was anti-climatic, and a little too Indiana Jones.
- Despite being sold as a stand-alone (which it technically is) I found myself wishing that I'd watched the surrounding episodes to get a better understanding.
- There were complexities that could have been explored here that weren't.
On the flip side...
POSITIVES...
+ As said before, the music and scenes with the aliens.
+ The entire beginning: The opening scene, the scene with the kids, the scene with Mulder and Scully before the building blows up. The first half-hour of the film was very impressive.
+ Mulder/Scully's moment.
+ The Cigarette Smoking Man, though I feel he might have deserved a bit more explanation.
Overall, an entertaining watch. Though I have to encourage everyone to watch the series in order. This takes place after Season Five, right before Season Six.
6/10
just okay.......2007-04-13
I was a fan of the series and I was really looking forward to seeing this, but this movie just felt like an overlong episode.
Unnecessary and not all that entertaining.

Bob Rueland (David Duchovny) and Grace Briggs (Minnie Driver) have very little in common. Granted, they both live in Chicago and they're both a bit lovelorn, but that's about it. Still, fate has something in mind for these two somewhat-depressed souls (a construction worker and budding artist, respectively), who've both recently had brushes with death--he's a recent widower, she's just recovered from a heart transplant--and are a little more serious than their friends and relatives. After a series of misbegotten blind dates and almost-meetings, though, these two finally get together, and find that they fit seamlessly with each other. Despite their differences, they have a lot in common--in fact, <I>quite</I> a lot. It seems that the heart that now beats inside Grace's chest once belonged to Bob's wife (Joely Richardson), who died in a car crash. Coincidence? We think not.
A gentle, pleasing romantic comedy, <I>Return to Me</I> marks the directorial debut of Bonnie Hunt, an acclaimed actress known most famously for her role as Renee Zellweger's sister in <I>Jerry Maguire</I>. A shining, happy bright spot in whatever role she's in, Hunt has also invested the film with her trademark brand of humor: dry but sincere, sarcastic but not caustic, and with a deep current of humanity and romance. In the midst of all the permutations that fate surrounds them with, Driver and Duchovny make a pleasantly low-key couple; the triumph of the film is that despite all the contrived angst, the romance is never overly saccharine. They provide a quiet center in a film that has a fair amount of chaos in it, particularly due to Driver's extended family of Irish <I>and</I> Italian relatives (which occasionally tips the film into cutesy territory) and most hilariously to Driver's best friend, played by director Hunt . As a harried mother with innumerable kids and a likable oaf of a husband (James Belushi), Hunt again steals scenes effortlessly; Belushi is a comic revelation, better than he's been in years. You'll have the pleasant memories of both of these couples--one falling in love, one together for years--with you a long while after seeing this film. <I>--Mark Englehart</I>
Description
Who knew that when he ordered the special, he d get the dish of his life? David Duchovny ('the X-Files ) and Minnie Driver (Good Will Hunting) ignite sparks in this warm-hearted winner (JeffCraig, 'sixty Second Preview ) about a widower and a waitress who meet and fall in love. Featuring an incredible all-star cast, this hilarious romantic comedy delivers a lot of laughs, tears and joysthat will make your spirits soar. It took a lot of cajoling to get Bob (Duchovny), a recently widowed architect, to go on a blind date at a quirky Irish-Italian eatery. Once there, he's smitten instantly not with his date but with the sharp-witted waitress, Grace (Driver). With unsolicitedhelp from Grace's matchmaking grandfather (Carroll O Connor), Bob asks her out. And as their relationship blossoms, everything seems to be going great, until an unbelievable truth is revealed one that could easily break both of their hearts for good.

Finally, A Refreshing Movie for Everyone.......2007-05-25
I thought this movie was a delight even though it was one of those "that'll never happen" movies. The whole family can watch and enjoy it, so it was worth every penny. I plan to share it with friends.
Nice couple-in-love or family flick.......2007-05-19
Enjoyable. Bought only because girlfriend likes to re-watch favorite movies regularly (and VHS copy finally broke). Otherwise, would have rented and been fine.
Very romantic... Interestingly modern moral dilemma.......2007-05-12
I admit it I am a fan of both (actually several) stars of this movie. After Minnie Driver's new show on FX the Riches, reminded me how much I liked her, I got to remembering this film, then coincidentally it was showing on broadcast TV the other day when I came home from work and my wife was watching it and told me to order it, so I did, and we watched it with our youngest who also enjoyed it very much.
But this is a very sweet and touching tale with an interesting twist that is strong on a not too subtle metaphor.
Watch this with your sweetheart for a romantic night at home.
CUTE AND TYPICAL OF SOME FAMILIES.......2007-05-02
THIS IS A CUTE MOVIE ,THOUGH SOME OF THE LANGUAGE IS NOT GOOD FOR CHILDREN,ONE OF MY FAVORITES.
Very good romantic comedy.......2007-02-18
From an absurd plot - Chicago architect Duchovny falls in love with the much younger woman who (unknown to him) has received the transplanted heart of his dead wife - first time director Bonnie Hunt (who also has a good role in the movie) has crafted a very good romantic comedy. Minnie Driver, in particular, as the virginal Grace (this is a very catholic movie) has never been better as the object of Duchovny's chaste affection. The main question of the movie is how Duchovny will react when he learns about Grace's history - and how that will affect their relationship. The film is also a paean to a particular milieu - working class ethnic America, particularly the Italian, Polish and Irish groups that intersect in Chicago - that is fast disappearing as a result of assimilation.

<I>Don't Tell Mom The Babysitter's Dead</I> aspires to be a cross between <I>Home Alone</I> and <I>Risky Business</I>, with Christina Applegate as an inadvertent scam artist who gets in over her head and somehow pulls it off. When her mother goes to Australia for two months, Sue Ellen (Applegate) thinks she's going to be in charge--until an elderly tyrant of a babysitter arrives. But on the very first night the old lady has a heart attack and keels over. Sue Ellen and her siblings leave the body at a mortuary, only to discover afterward that all the money their mother had left for the summer was in the babysitter's clothes. So Sue Ellen has to get a job. Thanks to a trumped-up resume, she ends up as an executive assistant at a clothing manufacturer. For a while she keeps her head above water by skillfully exploiting a friendly coworker, but her brothers and sisters are running amok at home and a venomous receptionist has it in for her at work. The role-reversal humor of Sue Ellen having to mother her siblings is unsurprising, but Applegate is unexpectedly appealing; her scenes with Josh Charles (<I>Dead Poet's Society</I>, <I>Threesome</I>) have a sweet chemistry. Joanna Cassidy (<I>Blade Runner</I>, <I>The Laughing Policeman</I>) plays Sue Ellen's boss and a young David Duchovny (<I>The X-Files</I>, <I>The Rapture</I>) is a weaselly clerk. <I>--Bret Fetzer</I>

Summer of Maturity.......2007-05-24
Director Stephen Herek and writers Neil Landau and Tara Ison present us with a tale that requires a lot of suspension of disbelief.
This 1991 flick focuses on the chaotic life of the Crandell Family, headed by a single mother (Concetta Tomei) who is to vacation in Australia for three months.
She leaves her five children in the care of octogenarian Mrs. Struak (Eda Reiss Merin), who appears nice on the surface, but who proves to be a tyrannical martinet once Mrs. Crandell leaves. Luckily, her tyranny is cut short after less than a day with her sudden death.
Rather than calling the authorities, the children dispose of her in front of a funeral home, and the oldest child, Sue Ellen(Christina Applegate), takes a job at a hot dog stand when they discover that the money their mother left for household expenses was with the corpse.
Sue Ellen's co-worker and High School sweetheart, Bryan (Josh Charles),
tries to rekindle a romance. But Sue Ellen moves on, using a fake resume to get a job with a fashion firm. She is mistakenly employed as an executive when she only wanted the receptionist's position. But her new boss, Rose Linsey, (Joanna Cassidy)is deeply impressed. Rose is dating co-worker, Gus (John Getz), who makes advances towards the pretty ingenue. Co workers Bruce, and Cathy (David Duchovny, Kimmy Robertson) try to discredit Sue Ellen.
At home Sue Ellen's brother Kenny ( Keith Coogan, with the acting chops of grandfather Jackie) begins a transition from a pot smoking slacker to an efficient household manager and cook. Younger siblings, including softball player, Melissa, lovelorn Zach, and adventerous Walter (Danielle Harris, Christopher Pettiet, and Robert Hy Gorman) fall in line as well.
Inevitably, there are critical missteps, and Sue Ellen gives herself and her siblings one more chance fore redemption before turning everyone in. Watch for a scene of Kenny and Sue Ellen sparring like an old married couple.
Sue Ellen is slated to give a fashion presentation, and with a lot of help from their friends, the Crandell kids pull it off brilliantly.
But Sue Ellen's lies are soon exposed, and Mom comes home and pulls the plug.
No matter. Rose expresses her gratitude for the teenager's help during the summer, and may help her get into college.
Mrs. Crandell is impressed by her oldest son's reinvention of himself, and the positive aspect of this story is that the kids inspire their friends to have a sense of direction for their lives as well.
The whereabouts of the babysitter's remains seem rather irrelevant in the end.
The Dishes are Done Man!.......2007-05-10
Love this movie!! Great for a good laugh. Very cute movie and good for teenage kids...I watched as a child and have loved it since day one.
Awesome Classic Movie.......2007-05-08
Don't Tell Mom is an awesome, classic movie. I love Christina Applegate. It's lighthearted and funny. Anyone would enjoy this movie. Not for children.
MUCH BETTER THAN THE TITLE SOUNDS!.......2007-03-20
One of the better teen comedies of the time period and way better than the title leads you to believe! The good cast does what it can with the far fetched and silly script. It's kinda like Working Girl meets Home Alone...I guess?
Don't tell mom the babysitters Dead.......2007-03-08
A perfect movie for babysitter's everywhere. Christina Applegate is histerical in this outrageous movie about 5 kids that have the summer to themselves because there mother is in Australia and there babysitter just died. See what they do and how they make it through the summer in this fabulous hit!

Melanie Griffith had a fling with stardom in this Mike Nichols comedy about an executive secretary (Griffith) who can't get her deserved shot at upward mobility in the brokerage industry. Hardly taken seriously by male bosses, things aren't really any better for her once she starts working for a female exec (Sigourney Weaver, never more delightful), a narcissist with a boy-toy banker (Harrison Ford) and a tendency to steal the best ideas from her underlings. When Weaver's character is laid up with a broken leg, Griffith poses as a replacement wheeler-dealer, flirting with Ford and working on a new client who doesn't suspect the deception. Nichols brings a lot of snap and sass to Kevin Wade's smart script about chafing against class restrictions and perceptions. Sundry scenes are played quite charmingly, especially those of Griffith and Ford's mutual pickup in a bar and Joan Cusack's championing of Griffith's crusade. Nominated for Best Picture, Director, Actress (Griffith), and two Supporting Actress awards (Weaver, Cusack); Carly Simon's song "Let the River Run" won the Oscar. <I>--Tom Keogh</I>
Description
Nominated for 6 Academy Awards; director Mike Nichols' witty, romantic look at life in the corporate jungle stars Melanie Griffith as Tess McGill, an ambitious secretary with a unique approach for climbing the ladder to success. When her classy, but villainous boss (Sigourneey Weaver) Breaks a leg skiing, Tess simply takes over her office, her apartment, even her wardrobe. She then creates a deal with a handsome investment banker (Harrison Ford) that will either take her straight to the top - or finish her off for good.
Customer Reviews:
the good "gal" wins .......2007-05-26
this is a movie for a dank night, when you're feeling down about your job, employer, or simply at things you can't control.
Delight in a farfetched but very well written and acted plot, where the "bad" witch is a successful woman, the heroine is a feisty and spunky smartass who knows what she needs to do to succeed but lacks the credentials to get there, and Harrison Ford being his romantic lead best.
Good wins over evil, the right woman wins the guy of many of our dreams, and perhaps best yet...woman are equal to men in the power plays of business. Its worth watching again and again!
Smashing the Glass Ceiling.......2007-03-21
What I love about Mike Nichols' Working Girl, each time that I view the DVD, is that the film reminds me of the Cinderella fairytale re-envisioned as a corporate fable. While there are no evil stepmoms and stepsisters here, Tess McGill (Melanie Griffith) finds herself in just as miserable a situation, with a conniving boss (portrayed by a perfectly lanky Sigourney Weaver) and a duplicitous boyfriend (portrayed with an adequate balance of arrogance and warmth by Alec Baldwin).
Instead of a glass slipper, Tess slips into a little black dress with plenty of persuasion by her fairy godmother, Cynthia (played by John's big sister, Joan Cusack). The dress and the hair are key to hooking the corporate Prince (portrayed by a dapper Harrison Ford). It is the larger-than-life Cusack as "Cyn" -- Tess' nickname for her best friend from their Staten Island 'hood -- who rules in Working Girl.
Best Supporting Actress Cusack steals more than one scene, such as the one in which she reacts to an expensive dress from the wardrobe of Tess' boss with the line: "It's not even leather," the last word emphatically pronounced "LEH-thuh" as if the price tag on the dress were a working-class faux pas. In that scene, Griffith as Tess nearly faints. Brilliant!
However, Tess delivers my most favorite line in the movie, in a scene with Harrison Ford's character, Jack Trainor: "I've got a head for business and a bod for sin." I must admit that it's not only what she says in that scene, but also how she says it. Griffith and Ford's chemistry is as electric in Working Girl as that of Bogie and Bergman or Grant and (Audrey) Hepburn in their own Hollywood classics.
If you buy this DVD, it certainly will not disappoint.
Working Girl, dvd.......2007-01-04
This is the story of an employee who is kept at the bottom of the corporate chain, as a secretary. Her ideas are taken by her boss, and passed off as her own. The secretary steps outside her group and runs an idea. Sigourney Weaver is good as the villainous squelcher. Melanie Griffith is good as the "take this job and shove it" secretary. Harrison Ford is always good as the romantic interest, of both women. Retribution is swift, but honesty conquers in the end.
4 stars for this fun and witty comedy.......2006-12-28
I had recently heard about this movie in the film "Little Black Book." I personally think that this is a fun, and very enjoyable comedy. It is about this secretery named Tess, who gets a job for this very important, big, and rich business woman named Katharine. After throwing an idea to Katharine to help the business, her boss steals her idea and takes credit for it. Left heartbroken and sad, she poses as Katharine after she is injured on vacation. She then works with and falls in love with Harrison Ford's character. The DVD features include two theatrical trailers, three televison spots, and theatrical trailers for other 20th Century Fox movies. Not too great of a DVD, but well worth the price, only $9.99, at most places
Great Story.......2006-10-28
I was on the edge of my seat - WILLING Melanie Griffith's character to MAKE IT in the business world. She was smart, pretty, and hard-working. She deserved a break.
Will she get it? Watch and see.

Based on the evidence in <I>Evolution</I>, one thing is perfectly clear: special effects have evolved, but director Ivan Reitman has reverted to primitive pandering. Equally obvious is the fact that <I>Evolution</I> is a de facto rip-off of Reitman's 1984 classic <I>Ghostbusters</I>, but this time there's no Bill Murray to deliver the best punch lines (we have to settle for fellow ghostbuster Dan Aykroyd in a broad supporting role), and the comedy has devolved into a grossfest including deep-rectal extraction of alien insects, fire-hose enemas into a giant alien sphincter, and a full-moon display of David Duchovny's naked posterior. Whereas <I>Ghostbusters</I> was a shrewd, irreverent mainstream comedy that combined gooey spectral ectoplasm with something resembling genuine wit, <I>Evolution</I> is a crude, juvenile romp in which all things slimy are elevated to comedic supremacy.
Granted, that's not always a bad thing. As latter-day ghostbuster equivalents, Duchovny, Orlando Jones, and Seann William Scott make a fine comedic trio, and Julianne Moore is equally amusing as a clumsy scientist and Duchovny's obligatory love interest. Despite the meddling of clueless military buffoons, they join forces to eradicate a wild variety of rapidly evolving alien creatures that arrived on Earth via meteor impact, and the extraterrestrial beasties (courtesy of effects wizard Phil Tippet and crew) are outrageously designed and marvelously convincing. For anyone who prefers lowbrow humor, <I>Evolution</I> will prove as entertaining as <I>Ghostbusters</I> (or at least <I>Galaxy Quest</I>), while others may lament Reitman's shameless embrace of crudeness. One thing's for certain: after seeing this movie, you'll gain a whole new appreciation for Head & Shoulders shampoo. <I>--Jeff Shannon</I>
Customer Reviews:
Much more fun than its reputation suggests.......2007-05-20
Evolution is a lot more fun that its busted summer would-be blockbuster status implies, although like most Ivan Reitman comedies the concept is funnier than the script. For the first half David Duchovny and Orlando Jones have more exposition than jokes to deal with and Julianne Moore is game but is no natural comedienne, especially when it comes to pratfalls, while Ted Levine's clichéd general is a villain too far. But once it hits its stride and the constantly evolving critters that are the real stars of the show start multiplying and threatening mankind with extinction, it's an enjoyable monster mash that even manages to make a joke of its product placement for Head and Shoulders. Like the aliens it's no world-beater, but it's a brisk and enjoyable romp. Nice score from John Powell too.
DreamWorks DVD has a good selection of extras, including audio commentary, deleted scenes and alternate ending.
hilariously funny.......2007-04-01
This movie was a blast thanks to the director and the cast. The comedic talents of the cast helped make this movie stand out from the more serious invasion movies that have been done before and since.
Monkey's Uncle Darwin.......2007-03-09
This movie is awesome! It may be no Oscar winner but the characters a lovable, the comedy hilarious and the movie teaches you at the same time. It's one of those movies you have to watch with your friends and family.
Comedy? I don't think so.......2007-01-16
Well I want to say just one thing. This movie was funny and damn good Science Fiction.
It seemed to fail in the box office because they labeled it a comedy. It was that but more than anything else and most importantly it was DAMN GOOD SCIFI!
If you missed this one, go back and make amends to yourself and see it NOT as a comedy but as some darn good SciFi.
pleasent surprise.......2007-01-05
never herd of this movie when it was in the theater (mabe it never was i'm not sure). i know it's Not exactly oscar worthy but it's far from a flop too. it has a very good storyline, excellant originality, great choices for cast members, exceptional imagination (creature animation), blended with decent comedy.
a few scenes were somewhat crude for young kids (but that's why it's pg13). overall i realy liked it

<I>Queer Duck: The Movie</I> is the relentlessly funny, feature-length extension of the animated series <I>Queer Duck</I>, created by frequent <I>The Simpsons</I> scripter Mike Reiss. Sexually scandalous yet sweet, the movie is a cascade of pop-culture stereotypes of gays in America, punctuated by rapid-fire references (as with <I>The Simpsons</I>) to, well, just about everything: classic movies, game shows, Gilbert and Sullivan, Paul Lynde. Hey, there's even a storyline: Queer Duck (voiced by Jim J. Bullock) and his partner of 18 months ("That's a lifetime in gay years"), Harvey Fierstein sound-alike Stephen Arlo "Openly" Gator (Kevin Michael Richardson), hit a relationship crisis when the fey fowl is wooed by a brassy Broadway broad. Queer Duck wonders if he'd be happier being straight. While Gator the waiter spills his problems to a compassionate Conan O'Brien (thanks for the cameo), Queer Duck goes on a personal odyssey that ultimately leads to a showdown with a television evangelist at a theme park re-christened Fairyland. One has to see it to believe it. With supporting vocal performances from Mark Hamill, Tim Curry, Estelle Harris, and Maurice LaMarche. <I>--Tom Keogh</I>
Description
If you thought Queer Duck on Showtime was over-the-top, you won't believe this all new no holds barred comedy & musical extravaganza. Queer Duck and his fabulous friends Openly Gator, Bi-Polar Bear and Oscar Wild Cat will keep you laughing until it hurts in their outrageously zany, full-length feature debut.
Customer Reviews:
Hilarious!.......2007-01-12
I thought this movie was hysterical! The jokes and one-liners come at you in such rapid fire that you will surely be hitting the rewind button! The animation is funny, with lots of nods to classic cartoon characters. The voice-acting is perfect, also emulating classic cartoon voices. The writing is clever, making the jokes more high-brow than just cursing and toilet humor. I would not recommend this for young kids or for people who only like gay characters as the butt of jokes.
If You Like Films About Homosexual Poultry, You Could Do Worse.......2007-01-04
What can one say about "Queer Duck"? You either know who he is or you don't. You either love his antics or you don't. It seems pretty simple. Originally broadcast as short films, Queer Duck and his entourage (Oscar Wildcat, Bi-Polar Bear, and Openly Gator) captivated many. Using conventional, and mostly negative stereotypes, they managed to be both raucously funny and surprisingly astute. I was never particularly in the "cult" of "Queer Duck"--I found them generally amusing but never sought them out specifically.
I must admit, I pretty much dreaded "Queer Duck-The Movie." How can you turn a minute cartoon into a full length feature? It's been done, I know--but often with disastrous results. Well, clocking in at just over an hour (a good length)--I found "Queer Duck" to be a nice surprise. It managed to maintain its integrity and be pretty darn funny, too. Skewering everything from Disneyland, the Minnelli-Gest nuptials, and gay conversion--"Queer Duck" takes on relatively easy targets, but still scores. There are lots of jokes, so if you don't like one--just wait a minute, they arrive fast and furious.
The film also benefits from nice cameos from Conan O'Brien, Bruce Vilanch, and David Duchovney as Baby Jesus (it's better not to ask). And I loved the thrilling climax straight out of the great thriller "Black Sunday" (go figure). Chances are if you like this kind of stuff, you'll like this. If not, then stay away. I'd give this 4 stars for the built in audience--if you don't know "Queer Duck," though, you might want to sample a couple of short films first. KGHarris, 01/07.
QUACK, QUACK.......2006-12-20
"QUEER DUCK: THE MOVIE"
Quack, Quack
Amos Lassen and Cinema Pride
"Queer Dick: The Movie" is a full-length version of Showtime's highly irreverent cartoon series and written by one of the writers for "The Simpsons". Basically it is parody of gay stereotypes and those who are involved in homophobia. The main character is a gay duck who loves Babs and his fabulous friends: Oscar Wildcat, Openly Gator, and Bi-Polar Bear. As Queer Duck makes a noble attempt to go straight with the help of a Christian fundamentalist preacher horse, we get some very gay humor and hysterical musical numbers. But there is a major problem. What worked so well in three minute segments does not hold interest during a full length movie. There are some glowing moments but by and large, the movie begins to dull after fifteen minutes. There seems to be a plot but it is so loosely structured that it appears as if it were made on as time went along.
n the movie, Queer Duck with the voice of Jim J. Bullock, is happily n love with his partner for life, Openly Gator,
but their relationship is put in jeopardy when the legend of the Broadway stage, Lola Buzzard meets Gator who proposes to him.
He decides that he wants to go straight to marry her.
This seems o be an excuse to bring in the fundamentalist Christians as well as poke fun at the gays who live for Broadway musicals. Even with some very funny jokes, this does not seem to work in order to supply a full length movie. Some of the puns are really sad and the double entendrrs are at times insulting while some of the other material is passé.
It seems s if this was an attempt to cash inon the success of South Park but the songs are silly and some of the jokes just are not funny or seem funny at first until the laugh turns to a yawn, Satire, this is not. Poking fun is only successful when the targets can be ridiculed with really good humor. The movie tries to be risqué and only is mildly funny. I found it to be boring and shameless. In an attempt to combat homophobia, it becomes homophobic in itself and this is inexcusable. I think we are willing and even eager to laugh at our foibles but not when the jokes hit below the belt. An attempt to satirize becomes insulting and we can insult ourselves without having to watch a DVD.
The idea is great and it could have been great if done properly. Perhaps this is because a straight man wrote the show and not one of our own that caused it to fall so flat. I loved the short "Queer Duck" cartoons but my stomach is just strong enough to take a full length movie which, at best, seems to be condescending.
Not the same as the internet.......2006-11-07
I found this movie long and drawn out. Borrow it from a friend, don't spend the $ on owning a copy.
Takes a poke at everyone - very funny!.......2006-11-06
The film does a good job of bringing the Queer Duck web snippets to the big screen. The story lines take a solid poke at the morons who condemn without any knowledge or understanding, and provides some valuable information about our gay brothers & sisters. Also, it's just plain funny so it's great for a laugh break if your party is going slowly and needs a pick-me-up!

David Duchovny is a blocked author with a fascination for outlaw killers who hatches a plan to road trip through America's mass-murder landmarks to finish his book. He enlists his frustrated photographer girlfriend Michelle Forbes, who desperately wants to leave the East Coast for L.A., to illustrate the tome, and they advertise for riding partners. Luckily for them, they wind up with a veteran killer, the greasy trailer-park ex-con Brad Pitt, who decides to skip parole with his cowering child-woman girlfriend Juliette Lewis. Duchovny is enamored by gun-toting Pitt's recklessness and lawless disregard for, well, everything; he's simultaneously terrified and thrilled by Pitt's brutal beating of a barfly. Meanwhile, Pitt's leaving a trail of corpses in their wake.
Directed with a cool remove by Dominic Sena (<I>Gone in 60 Seconds</I> 2000), <I>Kalifornia</I> falls somewhere between <I>Badlands</I> and <I>Natural Born Killers</I>. Pitt brings a ferocious magnetism to his part, but it's still hard to buy genial Duchovny's odd attraction; Juliette Lewis conveys a terrifying sense of victimization with her poor dumb creature. Despite the film's best efforts, it never really plumbs the psyche of Pitt's simmering psycho--he's just plain bad, you know--but it does fashion an effective little thriller out of the tensions brewing in the restless quartet. <I>--Sean Axmaker</I>

Customer Reviews:
not bad.......2007-01-26
Duchovny and Forbes want to travel across the US to California stopping at famous murder sites along the way - they're planning a book; he's writing the words and she's taking the pictures. To help finance the trip they advertise for someone to share driving and split gas money - they get the more than slightly psychotic Pitt and his childlike girlfriend Lewis. As they make their way across the country trying to make sense of violent murders by visiting where they took place, they are unaware that they have their own serial killer in the back seat.
There are some genuinely tense moments. The central performances are very good - Pitt is almost unrecogniseable and although Duchovny's character looks and, for the most part, sounds exactly like Fox Mulder, his initial fascination and eventual disgust with violence is well played out.
This is a very violent film but if you like thrillers and don't mind a bit of gore and bad language then you should enjoy it.
Realistic as it gets.......2007-01-20
Researching a book on serial killings, writer Brian Kessler (David Duchovny) and his girlfriend, Carrie Laughlin (Michelle Forbes), travel cross-country to the murder sites. Hitchhikers Earlye Grace (Brad Pitt), out on parole, and Adele Corners (Juliette Lewis) offer to share expenses for the trip, but Brian doesn't realize just how close he is to the topic of his book -- even as bodies pile up behind them and Earlye's landlord is found dead. Not only is the ironic nature of this film fun, but it is definitely one of those movies that is taken up a notch due to the actors. Pre-Jennifer Aniston Brad Pitt is perfection in his role, and Juliette Lewis was on the top of her career with this film. She nearly stole this film from everyone else. It is sad to see her fall as hard as she has. Lewis explored every avenue of her character and was not afraid to go overboard and show us the true emotion of her role. We cannot give sole c
