Click is a high-concept, low-brow variation on It's a Wonderful Life that will have Adam Sandler fans laughing even as it leaves Frank Capra spinning in his grave. In their third collaboration (after The Wedding Singer and The Waterboy, Sandler and director Frank Coraci aim at the lowest common denominator and consistently hit their target, from scary casting (David Hasselhoff as Sandler's shallow, sexist boss; Sean Astin in a tight red Speedo) to a rancid menu of fart jokes, fat jokes, oversexed dogs, and other attempts at humor that rarely rise above the level of grade-school pranks. Sandler's "family comes first" sentiment somehow manages to survive the onslaught of rude, crude attitude that Sandler brings to his role as Michael Newman, a workaholic architect who learns the hard way that, well, family comes first. This happens after Newman gets a magical remote control from Morty (Christopher Walken, the film's one and only highlight), an eccentric oddball in the "Beyond" section of a Bed, Bath & Beyond store who's a devilish version of Wonderful Life's benevolent guardian angel. But Sandler's no James Stewart as he uses his techno-marvel (complete with a DVD-like "life menu") to fast-forward through his life's most unpleasant moments, only to realize that he's been missing lots of good stuff, too. With Kate Beckinsale as Newman's neglected wife, impressive older-age make-ups by Rick Baker and a lot of digital wizardry to beef up the humor, Click won't disappoint Sandler's established fan base, and its $40 million opening weekend offered ample proof that Sandler's box-office clout remains remarkably consistent.--Jeff Shannon

Product Description
A harried workaholic, Michael Newman (Adam Sandler) doesn't have time for his wife (Kate Beckinsale) and children, not if he's to impress his ungrateful boss and earn a well-deserved promotion. So when he meets Morty (Christopher Walken), a loopy sales clerk, he gets the answer to his prayers: a magical remote that allows him to bypass life's little distractions with increasingly hysterical results. But as Michael gleefully mutes, skips and scans past his family and his friends, the remote gradually takes over his life and begins to program him, in this fast, funny and out-of-control comedy adventure.
Customer Reviews:
Rent it instead.......2007-06-23
This movie started out well enough but turned to multiple crude jokes that got tiresome really quickly. Having dogs humping a stuffed duck and even Sandler once (in shadow)during sex with his wife, definitely does not make this family movie material. As everyone has mentioned, Click does in the end, mirror the message from It's A Wonderful Life -- and for that reason, it is worth a rental. Watch it with your favorite workaholic who is missing out on family.
The casting was great. Julie Kavner and Henry Winkler were perfect as the parents and the make up department did a great job of making them appear younger and older. David Hasselhoff and Sandler's crew of regulars were totally funny in their parts but as much as I love Adam Sandler, Click was disappointing. If it had a stronger script, it would have worked.
Humor and a lot of heart.......2007-06-10
Sandler continues to select comendies that almost always leaves the audience with something to think about. This movie is probably best described as a modern version of it's a wonderful life and it's message is just a poignant as Jimmy Stewart pleading that he "wants to live". Many can relate to living on auto-pilot, wanting to fast-forward through struggles and fights, but it often those things which build character. A good movie with a great message. Highly recommended.
A Thinker.......2007-06-03
Michael is an architect, married to a great gal and they have 2 adorable children. There is one problem however, Michael never has time for his wife, children or parents. He is desperately trying to move ahead in his job, for their good, or is it? One day he goes to the store to buy a univeral remote and meets Morty who gives him one that will change his life. This remote Michael soon learns is to be used on his life. Don't like something that is hapening, fast forward. don't want to hear someone? Put it on mute! Wow....this should be great, or is it? Soon Michael is at the end of his life and perhaps from the use of the remote Michael realizes what is important and what is not.
I really liked this movie because it brought out so many things we all share in life. The responsibility to give our family all that we feel they need and yet showing perhaps it isn't what they need after all. It's very funny at times, yet sobering and the ending had me in tears, but that was a good thing. I really believe you will enjoy this movie and it will leave you perhaps a little wiser.
Funniest Movie Ever.......2007-05-31
Adam Sandler is hilarious in this movie from the dogs to when he gets fatter than life!! Get this movie!!

Product Description
America's favorite wild and zany funnyman, Adam Sandler (50 FIRST DATES, MR. DEEDS, PUNCH-DRUNK LOVE), scores big laughs in a smash comedy hit where the laughs never run dry! Just an oddball mama's boy from the back bayous of Louisiana, Bobby Boucher (Sandler) never wanted anything more than to quench the thirst of the dehydrated athletes who treat him like dirt! But when Coach Klein (Henry Winkler -- HOLES, TV's HAPPY DAYS) makes the call that allows Bobby to finally stand up for himself, it unleashes a torrent of bottled-up frustration ... and exposes a talent for tackling that transforms him from a meek "water distribution engineer" into the hardest hitter ever to roam the gridiron! Also featuring award-winning Kathy Bates (ABOUT SCHMIDT, TITANIC, MISERY) and sexy Fairuza Balk (ALMOST FAMOUS, RETURN TO OZ) in a hilarious cast of stars -- here's your chance to join the millions everywhere who've proudly stood and cheered for The Waterboy! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Amazon.com
Adam Sandler vaulted into the $20-million-salary stratosphere with this, his second $100-million hit in 1998--a movie that further shows just how deeply embedded he is in the Jerry Lewis tradition of idiot comedy. He plays Bobby Boucher, a backwoods Cajun and a mentally challenged individual with a fixation on water: specifically, on serving the coolest, most refreshing H2O available to the college football team he has served since he was an adolescent. But when he's fired from his position, he takes up a similar job with a lowlier college team coached by neurotic Henry Winkler. One day at practice, Bobby loses his temper and delivers a bone-shaking tackle to the starting quarterback; before he can say, "blackened crawdads," he's the star of the team and leading it to a bowl game. But it's all against the wishes of his overprotective mother (Kathy Bates), who wants to keep her Bobby to herself--and that includes keeping him away from the floozy girlfriend (Fairuza Balk) who's sweet on him. There are two kinds of people in this world: People who find Sandler funny and people who view him as a neon-lit symbol of the decline of popular taste. You know who you are and, based on that, you can decide whether this is a movie for you. <I>--Marshall Fine</I>
Customer Reviews:
ONE OF SANDLERS BEST EXCELLENT CAST.......2007-03-27
I saw this film in theaters and thought it was OK. After waching it on DVD a few times over the years it has really grown on me. Henry Winkler, Jimmy Reed and Kathy Bates are hystrical. A classic sports comedy that blows away his lame remake of the Longest Yard!
A great girft.......2007-01-03
I ordered 2 of the Waterboy DVDs...one for a gift and one to keep. As always, we love the movie!
Boy, Are You Playin' the Foozeball?.......2006-11-16
I am not a big Adam Sandler fan. I find most of his movies to be a little bit on the boring side but for some bizarre reason, I absolutely love this movie. Maybe because it's just bizarre.
Adam Sandler plays Bobby Boucher (pronounced Bo-shay). He's not exactly the sharpest knife in the drawer, he's in his thirties, he's a momma's boy, and he makes his career as being a professional water boy. Water is his life. Sandler created a very interesting character in Bobby Boucher.
He goes to work for the Louisiana Mud Dogs where the Coach, played by Henry Winkler discovers a "hidden talent" in Bobby. When Bobby gets angry, he has the strength of twenty men so the coach makes Bobby a defensive tackler with the Bobby's condition that nobody tell his momma.
In college Bobby learns that alligators are aggressive not because they "have all these teeth and no toothbrush" but because of the way their medulla oblongata is geared. He learns to have friends' outside of his momma. In other words, Bobby is growing up which is his momma's biggest fear because she is afraid that once he grows up, he won't need her, any more.
It's actually a very sweet movie. What I really liked about this movie were the visualization scenes. The Coach has Bobby visualize his opposition as people who have made him angry in the past. There is this one scene where he sees the whole offensive line with Henry Winklers head on their shoulders singing, "Water sucks...it really, really sucks..."
You have to see it...it's hysterical.
For the most part I review spiritual/metaphysical/philosophical books and movies, but I love films like this even though they may appear to have no "redeemable" aspects. Which is not true. I can find meaning and depth in everything. I'm not saying that The waterboy is a major philosophical triumph, but it does have meaning and depth even though it's primarily silly and highly bizarre...which is also good!
I love this movie and even though I do not own this DVD, I do watch it every time it's on television. It does generate some hardy laughs and I appreciate it just for that!
Peace & Blessings.
Forrest Gump with passive aggression.......2006-08-27
Waterboy is the story of a poor man's Forrest Gump who owes his dim-witted persona to the overprotective nature of his mother. Adam Sandler is at his silly, "stupid comedy" best playing Bobby Boucher, a Cajun recluse who has been a waterboy for one football team or another his entire life. After losing his job, he eventually catches on with another team where his life changes dramatically.
One day while perorming his waterboy duties, something he takes to ridiculously hilarious extremes, Bobby is abused by his new team. His precious water gets spit in, he gets tackled, and everyone of the players makes fun of him. With his old team, he had to endure the pain and ridicule without retaliation, but not with the new team.
A star is born.
Bobby eventually joins the team where he immediately, albeit inexplicably, becomes the starting linebacker. Despite his lack of football knowledge, he ends up becoming one of the greatest forces in college football history. He destroys everyone and everything on the opposing team, with highlight after highlight, using visualizations of all who have wronged him in the past to fuel his aggression.
Waterboy is highly enjoyable, with classic Sandler, and tons of either comedy or action to satisfy all needs. Henry Winkler is great in his role, bringing laughs whenever he's on-screen. Kathy Bates is great as the near-psychotic mother, a Col. Sanders lookalike who brings about easy comedy, and the cameos of Rob Schnieder and Clint Howard are subtle comedic genius.
I must warn all potential viewers. You may find yourself quoting several portions of the movie when finished, and quotes are FOR THE DEVIL!
Great Movie.......2006-08-06
This movie is top-notch hilarity, this is a must-own for Sandler fans or slapstick comedy fans. This movie is a classic in many ways and has a lot of firsts for later Sandler movies(like Rob Schnieder). A great movie, has almost non-stop laughs, I recommend it!

Good family film.......2007-03-17
We loved the movie. It was on old Friday night of fun with the kids.
Video Quality Review (Blu-ray).......2007-02-01
I may have rated this Blu-ray disc higher if it weren't for the downloadable trailer available through the PS3. The trailer is perfect high definition, a reason to spend too much money on a good TV. The colors are as bright and fresh as the image is detailed. The closest I have yet seen to the 'looking through a window' effect. Stunning, absolutely stunning. So what a shock when I started watching the Blu-ray disc. Don't get me wrong, it's good, very good, but not anywhere in the same league as the trailer. I then watched a clip from the trailer and found the matching clip in the film; night and day. The film has a slight haze of grain jumping pixels throughout, the trailer has none. Colors are subdued, no, the colors are burnt and crushed in this film when compared to the trailer. The whole movie was shot digitally so what happened. If you like Click the Blu-ray disc is going to be better than the DVD, even the special features are in high definition. But after seeing the trailer it's clear that someone dropped the ball in encoding this transfer.
(PS3 - 1080p projector - 92")
"Family Comes First".......2007-01-31
A very pleasant surprise, Click, is a movie that brings to the screen the story of a married man and father of two who is given the opportunity to skip all the unpleasant situations in his life, only to come to the realization that the phrase "Careful what you wish for" is meant to mean something...
The plot has elements of both comedy and drama making it rather difficult to label it as one or the other; it's actually a bit of both.
There are the slightest hints of The Family Man starring Nicolas Cage.
It is a film about human relations, hope and second chances, but most importantly about trust, love, and inner strength.
Adam Sandler, Kate Beckinsale, and the rest of the cast, have truly outdone themselves with their performances, which are outstanding to say the least! All the actors, without exceptions, give it their 100% and it really shows (the chemistry is AMAZING)! Very well written and very well presented, the movie is without a doubt guaranteed to provide more than just a few laughs, not to mention a few tears.
The setting, the plot, the dialogues, the humor, and the music are all wonderful!
In short, Click is a movie definitely worth watching and one to seriously consider adding to your movie collection! 4 1/2 Stars
Fun Movie but the blu-ray is not better than dvd.......2006-12-27
This is one of the worest Blu-ray disks. The picture is is terrible!
I "Clicked" With Click.......2006-10-10
I'm not really big on Adam Sandler movies. I thoroughly enjoyed, the Waterboy, however, and even though I have yet to buy that movie on DVD, I watch it every time they show it on television.
So, I'm sitting through this movie and the first thing I find hard to believe is that the Adam Sandler Character landed a babe like Kate Beckinsale. But of course, this movie is a "Fantasy" and so I guess anything is possible.
Michael (the Adam Sandler character) meets Mort (played by the always delightfully weird, Christopher Walken)in the "Beyond" section of Bed, Bath, and Beyond and receives a universal remote free of charge because it is not yet on the market. Well, this universal remote not only controls Michael's television it also controls his universe.
I can't exactly say when the movie actually "clicked" with me because at first, it just seemed kind of cheesy. Maybe it's because those scenes just primarly had Sandler in them. To me, Sandler needs a strong supporting cast because I really don't think he holds up on his own...but then again, do any of us...we all really need each other...
The basic message of this film is that Life is a process; that things that we normally find tedious, and dull, and difficult to go through are all part of Life. We would all love to just "fast forward" to the good parts, but maybe every part of life - including the dull and tedious parts - are good. Be sure to bring some Kleenex because even though I didn't "bawl" I did tear up a bit which is crazy in the first place...I mean, it's an Adam Sandler movie...who knew?
I was having a discussion with my friend who had also seen the movie and he felt that I was "reading" too deeply into things and maybe it was just a movie. Maybe it didn't have any other meaning other than to simply "entertain". Okay, I'll buy that. For the average movie goer who just wants to be entertained, it is definetely entertaining, but if you are like me and want to be entertained as well as reminded of certain basic truths about life than this movie will definetely remind you of those truths that we often forget ( or misplace) during our own process called life.
Besides, after all is said and done, Kate Beckinsale is in this movie for godssakes so you have to see it!!!
Have a great life, people...

Al (Freddie Prinze Jr., from <I>She's All That</I> and <I>I Know What You Did Last Summer</I>) and Imogen (Julia Stiles from <I>10 Things I Hate About You</I>) take turns narrating the story of their college romance. Al has a celebrity chef for a father (an amusing turn from Henry Winkler) and a rising porn star for a best friend (Zak Orth). The dialogue is stale, the story flounders, and the movie can't seem to decide whether it wants to be a sweet romance or a social satire. <I>Down to You</I> keeps dropping into odd fantasy bits that have nothing to do with, well, much of anything. But all the stars--including Selma Blair (<I>Cruel Intentions</I>) and Shawn Hatosy (<I>Outside Providence</I>) are pleasant and well groomed (well, except for Hatosy, who bears the brunt of being the poster boy for every fad of the '90s), and the soundtrack (featuring Cibo Matto, early David Bowie, Yo La Tengo, and others) is excellent. <I>--Bret Fetzer</I>
Description
Hot screen favorites Freddie Prinze Jr. (SHE'S ALL THAT, I KNOW WHAT YOU DID LAST SUMMER) and Julia Stiles (10 THINGS I HATE ABOUT YOU) sizzle in a fun and sexy comedy where the magic of first love collides with the challenges of real life! Also featuring Henry Winkler (THE WATERBOY), Selma Blair (CRUEL INTENTIONS), and Shawn Hatosy (OUTSIDE PROVIDENCE, THE FACULTY) in a stellar cast -- you'll want to join this irresistible couple as they face the future ... with some wildly unexpected results!

As cheesy as this sounds.......2007-05-28
Ok, so this movie is far from a work of art. At best it's a cheesy high school chick flick. Maybe it just came out at a time I could completely relate to the story (broke up with my high-school boyfriend) but I still love this movie even today. In fact, last year I asked my sister for the DVD for my bday, and I love it just as much.
Imagine played by Julia Stiles, whom I love is an indepent girl who falls for Alfred played by Prinze Jr. His innocence is adorable, and their story is cute, and magical. It's a very typical college experience for the most part. They break-up only to later re-unite. It's just a very cute movie, and it doesn't hurt that Prinze JR. is a total babe too!
Love this Movie.......2006-05-05
This is an excellent film with Freddie and Julia. They made a great combo! I have been searching for the dvd for a while. Now, I finally have it in my hands!!!
quite dissapointing.......2006-04-05
With so many good acters in this film you would think this would be a good film. Its a rubbish love story. It had a few good songs and thats why i havwe giving this film 2 stars. This movie is not worth watching.
Down to You.......2005-09-20
I love this movie. It is a modern day romantic comedy that anyone will enjoy watching.
Winkler was the good part.......2005-03-18
If you must watch this film, watch it for Winkler, who gives an interesting preview of his future role in "Arrested Development". Watching this movie for "Prinz" and "Stiles" is counterproductive. Not only have the actors "failed to make the best" of the script, the script was written from the viewpoint of the super-rich Hollywood elite who live lives with zero financial consequences. Thus, we watch as young adults walk out on culinary school, muse about becoming "singer-songwriters", and "stop paying attention" to their college plans. Much like the "Friends" genre that this movie shamelessly imitates, this is a "time porn" piece, where the characters have little else to do besides "mature romantically" and "find themselves". A movie for history's circular file.

In <I>Little Nicky</I>, Adam Sandler plays the sweetest of three sons of Satan (Harvey Keitel), who's got to go to Earth and retrieve his nasty, power-hungry brothers lest they take over Hell and make it a thoroughly evil place. As with Sandler's other films, this weird premise (based oh-so-loosely on <I>King Lear</I>) is just an excuse to trot out a hodgepodge of comic bits and cameo performances. Admittedly, a lot of the jokes don't work (there was no need to repeat the one about shoving a pineapple up Hitler's ass), but the ones that do tend to be more memorable than the ones that don't, making for a pretty funny movie, when all is said and done. Sure, it's hard to overcome Sandler's speech impediment du jour, not to mention that romantic subplot with Patricia Arquette, but it can be done by focusing on the brilliant cameos by Regis Philbin, Reese Witherspoon, Ozzy Osbourne, and Henry Winkler (especially when he's covered with bees), as well as one of the funniest uses of a scene from De Palma's <I>Scarface</I> in years. Supporting Sandler throughout are two very funny heavy metal disciples and a bulldog named Beefy (voiced by Robert Smigel, the man behind Triumph the Insult Comic Dog). And, in an almost unrecognizable cameo, that's Clint Howard as the cross-dressing fetishist named "Nipples." <I>--Andy Spletzer</I>
Description
Adam Sandler is Little Nicky, a shy and awkward guy with a penchant for heavy metal music and two bullies for older brothers. And another thing .... Little Nicky is the son of the Devil and lives in Hell. Also stars Patricia Arquette and Harvey Keitel.
Customer Reviews:
That has to be the most disturbing thing I've ever seen..........2006-11-22
And I'm not just talking about the giant horny bird. This movie's more fun than a swarm of angry bees!
Seriously though, if you're a Sandler fan, this is definitely a weird oe, but a must have. And this version is considerably better than the horribly edited and censored version they show on TV (rarely at that). The TV version has some of the best scenes all but cut out by the American puritanical censoring machine.
So, if you wish to see Little Nicky in all its underworld-ly gory (er, glory), you definitely need this disc. You want this disc! You are going to buy this disc, or I'll send Little Nicky's bigger, older, blacker brother by a different mother to mind-wrastle with you... Now, release the good!
The extra features are okay. Nothing to write home about, as I recall, though the main menu can be amusing at times. If you're bored. Picture is fine, audio is fine, and the fact that you get to see the movie in all its uncensored glory is excellent.
Adam Sandler... is Satan's Son... and Lucifer's Grandson..........2006-08-28
Another gut bursting comedy by yours truly, Adam Sandler... starring as Little Nicky, He's sent off to earth because his father's reign as the laid back underlord Satan has come to an end... The spawn of Satan, and Nicky's 2 other more intimidating Evil-er Brothers... lol well, to say they are power hungry and full of hate is, a bit of an understatement. Nicky is force to fight for his father's throne... and uncover that his mother really is an angel and was Messin' wit Satan one night... Hence the birth of Nicky, and does it all within the Big Apple. The most hellish dirtiest city in America.
Nicky walks through about the "middle ground" of Earth and is surprised at how cold it is compared to hell... He looks like a brightly colored homeless guy with his many layers of winter clothing in the middle of June... walking the streets with his sidekick "talking bulldog". Nevertheless, it may sound ridiculous but, this is one of my favorites. Adam Sandler makes a this fiendish movie wit some of the funniest plots to-date. Check out Lil Nicky, It'll get ur head spinnin.
Little Nicky.......2006-07-07
Little Nicky is the son of Satan. Satan wants to
retire, but none of his sons are strong enough
for the job. Cassius, who is big and strong, but
lacks the goodness. And there is Adrian, who while
really evil and smart, has no goodness at all. Then
there's Little Nicky that lacks any evil. Cassius and
Adrain leave Hell, thereby freezing the wall of fire
that lets the damned souls into Hell. Since no souls
can come in now, Satan starts to die. It's up to Little
Nicky to go and get his two brothers by putting them
into a flask and bringing them back to Hell to
save Satan from decomposition. He has only a week
and his two brothers are extremely more powerful than
he could ever be.
Hell at it's best.......2006-03-04
This was a funny movie that if you failed to laugh at can only mean you've lost your sense of humor. It was unique and the references to "Happy Gilmore" are certainly fun.
I think the main reason some people didn't like this film is because it showed that there is a heaven and a hell and that tends to scare those that deny or dispute their existence. So merely based on their own theological views, they denounce this film instead of accepting the premise and enjoying the comedy. And there is plenty of comedy throughout the film.
Simply pop this film into the DVD and don't try and make the film fit your version of theology. Just enjoy the laughs.
The previews made it look dreadful, but it's a fave silly comedy of mine!.......2006-02-18
I know what you're thinking. If you're anything at all like me, when this movie was in the movie theaters and the previews were running rampantly, I thought this looked like the stupidest piece of trash to ever grace the big screen. But I'll admit readily when I'm wrong, and here I absolutely was. I'm not saying Little Nicky is the world's greatest film, or even comedy, but if you like Adam Sandler and silly comedies in general, this is a movie that won't disappoint when you desperately need something mindless to turn your brain into mush after a horrendous week (or even day) at work.
A movie that opens with Jon Lovitz acting like a big, horny bird in a tree certainly promises to be very entertaining. And it is. And we're taken straight to hell with Harvey Keitel playing the devil himself very nicely, a brief encounter with Dan Marino, and the late Rodney Dangerfield to name a few. We're also treated to the heavens above with Reese Witherspoon and the guy who played Adam Sandler's golf mentor in Happy Gilmore. This movie has everything it takes to be insanely silly and entertaining. And you'll LOVE what happens to Hitler in this.
Don't take it too seriously. If you do, you miss the entire point of Little Nicky. If this is your kind of movie, add it to your collection...you'll watch it many, many, many times again. Enjoy!

Ron Howard's breakthrough film as a director launched Michael Keaton as a screen comic. In this film, he is teamed with a hangdog Henry Winkler as a pair of night attendants at a city morgue. Thinking entrepreneurially, Keaton (as the flakier half of the team) convinces a reluctant Winkler that they could kill two birds with one stone and use their quiet surroundings to start a call-girl business. The first girl in the stable of these unlikely pimps: Shelley Long, pre-Cheers. Given the rather tasteless subject matter (ever really met a happy hooker?), it's surprisingly good fun, ignited by the chemistry between the nebbish Winkler and the jet-propelled Keaton, who seized this role and used it to shoot him to stardom--and into several years of stinkers. Meanwhile, the film was supposed to help Winkler segue from the Fonz on Happy Days to a career acting in movies, but whatever happened to him? <I>--Marshall Fine</I>

Customer Reviews:
A Classic.......2007-05-26
This is a classic Keaton/Winkler film that will stand the test of time. No matter how many times I view this film, I still enjoy the zany Keaton character "Billy Blaze". Winkler adds a fine performance as well, taking you from his inability to stand up for himself to when he finally grows a pair with his family and soon to be ex- fiance.
Classic 80s Comedy.......2007-05-23
Night Shift is the cinematic rise to fame of Michael Keaton. After a lot of tv work, this was his first big film role, and he tackles it with all out manic excitement. As Bill Blazejowski (aka Billy Blaze) Keaton is the new guy on the night shift at the morgue with Henry Winkler (playing Chuck Lumley, a superb straight man).
When Lumley's neighbor Belinda (Shelley Long as a kind-hearted prostitute) loses her pimp - I mean, he gets killed, she and the rest of the prostitutes under his umbrella are without protection in a dangerous profession. She asks Lumley for help, and together with Blazejowski, they come up with the idea to use the morgue as their home base for a prostitution ring.
Thus the stage is set for Ron Howard's Night Shift, a slapstick comedy with a few touching moments that keep the characters toeing the reality line, while remaining slight caricatures and driving a bigger-than-life story of friendship, love, and, of course, pimping.
The casting is superb. Look out for a young Kevin Costner as Frat Boy #1 in a party scene at the morgue and an even younger Shannen Doherty as a girl scout.
Night Shift is definitely an entertaining ride, but it does have a strong 80's feel to it, and although it's super fun to watch, I can't give it more than three stars in 2007. Plus, the DVD is one of those early releases that just features a menu with Play DVD, Jump to a Scene, and audio setup. Without special features, some DVDs just aren't complete these days.
One of my all time favorites.......2006-01-24
I first saw this movie when I was about 14, I think, and it's one that I still love, that I have seen probably at least 100 times, and one that my brothers and sisters and I still quote and reference. "LOOOOOOOOVE BROKERS", "Jumpin' Jack Flash", "Call Starkist", "Where the **** is 4-K", "Oh, she's a harlot", the definition of Prostitution, and "This is CHUCK to remind BILL to SHUT UP!" are all burned in my brain and still make me laugh to this day. And, since I grew up in Indiana, it's always a special treat to see the Kugels, especially Mrs. Kugel barfing out the window of the car after having seen a man's bare butt. This movie is a scream - it does not disappoint. Plus, if you grew up in the 70s or 80s, there are a ton of people in it you'd recognize. Clint Howard is especially funny as a high school kid who rents out the morgue "limo" (hearse) to go to the prom. Michael Keaton (as "Billy Blaze") is absolutely hysterical. I love this movie and I recommend it to people all the time!
Love Brokers.......2005-12-31
What can I say about this classic that hasn't already been said? Truly one of the funnest movies I've ever seen. I laughed out loud from the moment Michael Keaton appeared on screen until the credits. The funniest scene in my opinion was when Keaton (at the morgue with a room full of prostitutes) uses the chalk board to explain the definition of the word "prostitution" by breaking the word down....
"What are we talking about here? I'll spell it out if I have to. Prostitution. We can say it. We're all adults. It helps to understand a word if you break it down. First there's 'Pros'... well, that doesn't mean anything really... then there's 'Tit'... we all know what that means... and then there's 'tu'...tu tit and then there 'tion' from the latin word to shun...to push away! To say NO I don't want any...that really doesn't belong in this word... Hilarious! Check it out! You won't be disappointed!
Buy this DVD. .......2005-12-24
I remembered seeing this film on television at at least 15 years ago, and loved it then. Just today, I watched the DVD and laughed out loud again. Timeless classic. Such a treasure, and I hope more people will see it. Great soundtrack, great ensemble cast. Michael Keaton at the speed of light. I can't think of anything else to add that others haven't already posted here. You will want to own this one.

When <I>The Lords of Flatbush</I> was released in 1974, Sylvester Stallone was still an unknown actor polishing his screenplay for <I>Rocky</I>, and Henry Winkler was approaching TV superstardom as "Fonzie" in the first season of <I>Happy Days</I>. In this modest, low-budget feature, they play second and third fiddle (respectively) to Perry King, whose respectable career, ironically, would never reach such stratospheric heights. As for their costar and diminutive fourth "Lord of Flatbush," Paul Mace appeared in only one more movie after this (Stallone's <I>Paradise Alley</I>), and was killed in a 1983 traffic accident at the age of 33. Such is the random nature of fame and fate.
The movie itself is noteworthy mostly for the pre-stardom appearances of Stallone and Winkler, and a strong costarring role for that most ubiquitous of '70s actresses, Susan Blakely. Despite its amateurish style, muddy sound quality, and rambling scenes that have casual appeal but minimal narrative momentum, the movie is blessed with laid-back authenticity, recognizing the value of awkward pauses and jumpy rhythms of conversation. The ensemble of self-named Lords--four leather-clad rebels in 1957 Brooklyn, moving reluctantly toward adulthood--is solidly cast, and even the most familiar scenes (like making out at a drive-in showing <I>From Here to Eternity</I>) ring with engaging truth. Codirector Martin Davidson later covered similar territory in <I>Eddie and the Cruisers</I>, and Barry Levinson transcended this shoestring affair with his 1980 classic <I>Diner</I>, but <I>The Lords of Flatbush</I> stands on its own as an earnest and lightly entertaining drama that boosted its costars to bigger and better things. <I>--Jeff Shannon</I>
Customer Reviews:
Pre-Grease.......2007-05-12
This is a pretty good movie. It is pre-grease, for those who are wondering. Grease actually came out a year after this was made. Here's a little tidbit of information, the character Stalone played-Stanley Rosiello, is what the Happy Days crew based Henry Winkler's character-The Fonz, off of.
Hilarious and Poignant Masterpiece.......2007-01-05
This disjointed look into the mentality of four not-so bright shop class dropouts is unforgettable in that it captures all the hormonal angst and harmless thuggery of growing up in the 50's. It was a bygone era, where greasing up your hair and riding a motorcycle predated today's sideshows and drivebys. Stallone and King are unforgettable in their honest portrayals without a hint of selfconsciousness. Their girlfriends are as dimwitted as they are. Susan Blakely as the well-to-do girl interested in Perry King plays the role perfectly and honestly. Whether you're a Stallone fan , are into the 50's, or just want to laugh uncontrollably, don't miss this one!
"Bulldog" COLUMBUS.......2006-11-06
I grew up in Philadelphia and I remember guys like this Brooklyn quartet.
This is a hard-to-find film, but well worth it. I remember first seeing "The Lords Of Flatbush" at the theatre and when it came out on DVD, I was glad to eventually get my own copy. This is a "historical" film since it was the starting point for most, if not all, of the main characters. The actors' dress, hair styles, language, cigarette smoking, toothpick chewing, girlfriends and situations are "timely"... and the cars are wonderful. I flashed back! "Cool, Cats....Cool"
A weak flick that has not aged well since the 70s........2005-08-07
This is one of the weaker efforts that emerged from the nostalgia craze of the 1970s. It is interesting to see the work of a very young Sylvester Stallone and Henry Winkler, and as one might expect, Winkler shows great potential while Stallone's performance is excruciating to watch. The young ladies who play Stallone's love interest and her best friend are hilarious Brooklyn stereotypes. Beyond this, however, the film is nearly unwatchable. The first half hour is a series of pointless vignettes meant to establish that the Lords (a quartet of New York street toughs) are indeed some dangerous dudes. The rest of the movie tries, in a ham-handed way, to cobble together some sort of character development, by showing that these four fellas have feelings and are sorta sensitive beneath the surface. To this end, a bizarre scene is inserted in which Sly Stallone waxes philosophical to his pal Chico about letting one's mind fly free, while standing in a coop of homing pigeons. As in many of his future performances, his character inexplicably flies into a sputtering rage and comes across as either mentally retarded or brain-damaged.
The film's lighting is shadowy and amateurish, and the camerawork and editing could have easily been done more effectively by chimpanzees or even mountain gorillas. The sound recording and mixing is at a high-school skill level, with the grating 1970s quasi-doo-wop music completely drowning out important dialogue at several points. (Apparently they couldn't afford the licensing of actual hits from the era... whichever era it is supposed to be... 50s?.. 60s?) And the clumsy closing montage, with its syrupy music and series of random stills from the movie we have just endured, is unintentionally hilarious, sort of like those ponderous Powerpoint slide shows that they show these days at high school graduations.
If you are a die-hard fan of Stallone or Winkler, and want to see them in their first big break, you might want to check this out. The only other reason to watch this flick would be for the unintended laugh value.
A film that somehow defied the odds & become a cult favorite.......2004-08-23
"The Lord's Of Flatbush" was made on a budget of less than $100,000 prior to any of its stars becoming household names. Derivative of other similar and better movies it has still managed to garner a strong cult following in the years since its release. Technically crude, the film has a grainy quality and some scenes are very badly lit; most of the movie seems fuzzy and unfocused. Speech suffers the worst as it is very soft and distant in different spots throughout the film. That's too bad because the filmmakers display a good use of color and the period detail and flavor are among the best of its kind. But that's not what keeps this movie from achieving all it could have - the main culprit here is the story, what little there is.
Circa 1957, in the Flatbush section of Brooklyn, New York where four high school seniors are the self-styled members of a group calling themselves The Lord's Of Flatbush. Stanley, their self-proclaimed leader, Butchey, Chico and Wimpy hassle girls on their way into school, disrupt classrooms, steal cars, stay out all night...in general they behave recklessly and typically disrespectful. Stanley gets a wakeup call when his girlfriend announces to him she's pregnant. He tries to avoid 'doing the right thing', preferring to continue to display the image he's long played out. Chico spends all his time trying to have his way with the new blond girl in class, Jane. She's too smart and well-bred for him to con though and this irritates and eats away at him. Butchey gets called a schmuck by Eddie the proprietor of the Lord's local hangout - not because he's a fool Eddie says but because he's got brains and he could be something if he wanted to be. Wimpy continues to feel the need to prove himself 'a man' because he's so much shorter than everyone around him. The characters come full circle by the end of the movie at Stanley's & Frannie's wedding having each had to face up to their own immaturity and are now ready to move on with life after high school.
That's it in a nutshell. There really isn't much happening onscreen as far as a story goes. Another weakness is that the transitions between scenes aren't very smooth; the episodic and choppy storyline is the reason why. Still, you can clearly see the movie building up to the point where the four main characters each realize that the 'wiseguy' persona they display aren't going to get them very far in life. Stanley (played by Sylvester Stallone) finally agrees to marry Frannie; even after he discovers she's not really pregnant he still determines to marry her because he thinks his life will be a dead end if he doesn't. After Chico (Perry King) gets over the shock and anger of being rejected by Jane (Susan Blakely) he moves on as well, wanting to forget the whole episode even happened. Butchey (Henry Winkler) silently dreams of going to college but still isn't comfortable sharing that thought with anyone yet; or it could be that his pals have known all along - the film leaves that up to you to decide. Wimpy doesn't really progress much but without the presence of his three Lord's members playing out their roles around him he'll have to make it on his own and in his own way.
There are a few other problems I had with this film besides the main one I mentioned. How is it that King's character Chico can afford a top of the line Harley Davidson motorcycle? It isn't established at all but I got the sense his mother bought it for him - there is the ever so slightest hint she may be 'comfortably well-off'. Also too much time is spent spotlighting Chico, a tired stereotypical teen whose sole aim in life is to make out. Speaking of 'teens' all of the actors here are clearly too old for their roles; most of them are ten years older than the characters they play (kind of like TV's "Happy Days" in that respect!). Stallone too obviously patterned much of his characterization on roles played by Marlon Brando early in his career. His character's name is Stanley (Brando's character name in 'A Streetcar Named Desire' is Stanley Kowalski), he raises pigeons on the rooftop of his tenement dwelling (Brando's character Terry Malloy does so too in 'On The Waterfront'), etc. Stallone's no Brando but he is likable here nonetheless. Winkler's character Butchey appears with the rest of the gang in the scenes at the opening credits but then disappears for nearly the next thirty minutes and gets precious little time after that. He's quite good here as a 'Fonzie' wannabe - no one needs an introduction to television and "Happy Days" legendary character 'Fonzie'. He made this movie in the year preceding initial production for that TV series; his work here probably helped him win the part. Also the film lacks any genuine humor; most of the scenes meant to make us laugh have been played out before in other movies, it just isn't fresh. The film's best joke: Frannie confides to Annie her embarrassment of having to tell the priest about her impending pregnancy. Annie responds to her "So what. Why do you think they call the church 'Our Lady Of A Thousand Sorrows'?"
Still, the positives of "The Lord's Of Flatbush" are what continue to make it's fans come to it's defense in numbers. The directors have captured the look and feel of late 50's Brooklyn fantastically - especially considering the minimal budget they worked with. And without a doubt what has kept this movie in circulation is the presence of a handful of future stars. Stallone would go on to world-wide fame with both the series of 'Rocky' films and later on the series of 'Rambo' films. Likewise, Winkler went on to fame and fortune as 'Fonzie' as was already mentioned; he's quite busy as a producer of both television and movies as well these days. King has gained a respectable reputation appearing as a star or supporting player in such cult hits as "Andy Warhol's Bad", "Slaughterhouse Five", "The Possession Of Joel Delaney" and "Class Of '84". Blakely gained a huge public following after her appearance in the smash hit, trendsetting TV mini-series 'Rich Man, Poor Man'. I think what also helps this movie is that it came out on the heels of the success of 'American Graffiti' and at the tail end of the first season broadcast of "Happy Days". It already had a market to tap into and the film has remained in the thoughts of those who saw it then - most of its defenders seem to be from this general time frame.
The DVD is a limited package containing only the usual theatrical trailer, talent files and a couple of teasers for the movies 'Bugsy' and 'La Bamba'. An introduction to the film by the directors or a remembrance of the time spent making the picture by some of the actors involved would have helped. It would give the film an extra punch that is sorely lacking. I'm sure Columbia did the best job they could with the transfer; the original source couldn't have been better than what we're given here.

As the theme to <I>Clifford's Puppy Days</I> puts it, "Love makes little things grow." Best known as "The Big, Red Dog," Clifford was once a tiny pup. Divided into "New Friends" and "Little Puppy, Big Adventures," the DVD features eight stories. Part One: Clifford (voiced by Lara Miller, taking over from John Ritter of the original series) has fun in the sun with Emily Elizabeth in "Keeping Cool"; Emily Elizabeth can't find her lucky sock in "Socks and Snooze"; the gang hears strange sounds coming from an apartment in "The Monster in 3B"; and kittens Flo and Zo raise a ruckus in "Cat-Tastrophe." Part Two: Clifford makes new friends in "Jorge and the Dog Run"; the gang forms a story group in "Clifford's Club House"; Clifford becomes an artist in "Paw Print Picasso"; and Emily Elizabeth learns about guide dogs in "Hup Hup." <I>Clifford's Puppy Days</I> teaches tolerance, cooperation, and responsibility in a fun, big-hearted way. P.U.N.K.S........2006-02-01
It took a long time to decide to buy this film despite being a long time Jessica Alba fan even she was not impressed with her work here. My daughter convinced me and thought it was a super film hence the rating. Miss Alba steals the show despite her accent which I think she should have avoided...but she was probably the most real actor in the show.
My children enjoyed the film and recommeneds.
I Luv this movie.......2005-08-18
I loved this movie even as a child but i only rememeber bits and pieces of it and i couldn't remember the title and drove myself CRAZY trying to find it and finaly i did!!! i'm so happy!
P.U.N.K.S. is the best Disney Channel movie ........2005-07-29
This movie was the best ever. The young Jessica Alba is awesome. I love that New York accent. This is a story about a neglected son, whose dad is building a highly powerful robotic suit. However, he does not know he is building it for a villian (Randy Quaid). So his son gathers up a team of friends. And to know the rest of the movie you must buy it. :)
Cool.......2005-07-15
This is one ofmy favorite disney channel movies! When it first came out I couldn't get enough of it. Now that it's on DVD Ican watch it whenever I want.
Also, Jessical Alba is great in this movie. That's the main reason why I love it so much!
Terrible.Terrible movie, Avoid this one at all costs.......2005-04-03
P.U.N.K.S. is a very bad movie even for a Disney channel movie. A boy is feeling neglected after his dad dosen't make it to his party and then finds his father is making a suit that is a robotic suit for a evil boss that walks with a crow on his shoulder. This is by far the WORST movie of the 1990s next to Titanic. This movie is only for kids and idiots because this movie is awful. Even Randy Quaid and Henry Winkler were embarrassed to be in this mess. If you want a good Disney channel movie watch The Paper Brigade. The only good part was the credits.
