This clunky road movie about three drag queens (Patrick Swayze, Wesley Snipes, and John Leguziamo) who get stranded in a sleepy Nebraska town on their way to a beauty contest, is too uplifting for its own good. Released during drag's mid-'90s heyday when RuPaul and the Wigstock documentary were all the rage, <I>To Wong Foo</I> aimed straight for the mainstream with its inoffensive camp and "can't we all get along" moralism. While gay-activist groups howled about straights getting the lead roles in <I>To Wong Foo</I>, in the end the filmmakers really couldn't have done better than this trio of actors. John Leguziamo provides real sass and bite as a Latino (or should we saw Latina?) drag queen, and Wesley Snipes is surprisingly fierce as the imposing leader of the pack. Saddled with a cloying Southern accent and off-kilter wig, Patrick Swayze barely holds his own with his costars, though. <I>To Wong Foo</I> is best viewed as a cultural artifact of a time when it seemed as though drag could rule all tomorrow's parties. <I>--Ethan Brown</I>

Thanks for Everything Patrick & Wesley.......2007-05-20
Another fun movie that gives great "grins and giggles". It also has some very poignant parts as well. I have love this one for MANY years.
"TO WONG FOO" IGNORES ADVERSITY.......2007-04-30
"To Wong Foo" presents a rose-colored view of the world in which all of our problems can be solved if we just tap
into our inner fabulousness! Why, even the problems of seriously abused housewife CarolAnne (Stockard Channing) are cheerfully swept under the rug. I am not blaming the movie for its optimistic life view and colorful hues. It helps the poor abused Carol Ann that drag Queen Vita Boheme (Patrick Swayze) appears as her "angel" and lays some serious smack down on her pig of a husband (Arliss Howard).
Three drag Queen ends up stranded in some un-named fictional, backwater Podunk town when their Convertible breaks down en route from New York to Hollywood. The ladies, naturally, end up transforming the lives of everybody in town over the course of a single, magical weekend. The ladies are pursued by racist, homophobic Sheriff Dollard (the late Chris Penn) who, we discover in a funny bar scene, is a major closet case!
The premise is slight, but the performances are outstanding. Your enjoyment of the film may depend on how you respond to the leading (heterosexual) men playing the leading (gay men in drag) ladies. Snipes (as Noxemi Jackson) and Leguizamo are especially excellent at bringing their inner Drag Queens out. John Leguizamo is outstanding as Chi Chi Rodreiguiz. The role of Vita Boheme represents a major change of pace for Swayze, previously known for macho roles in "Dirty Dancing" and "RoadHouse." Swayze is only half as convincing and successful as Snipes and Leguizamo, but the good news ladies and gentlemen is that he is every bit as sexy and attractive as Lady Vita Boheme as he is as a man (himself). Hey, I'm not asking Swayze to give me the moon here. He really is very good. Robin Williams also makes a fun and funny cameo appearance.
"To Wong Foo" is so optimistic it might as well be a Disney movie, "The Wizard Of Oz" or "The Sound Of Music." I'm all for films about self-esteem and self-empowerment, as long as the viewer realizes that this level of rosy self-empowerment can be achieved in movies but seldom in real life. This is a perfect movie to watch if your feeling depressed. This movie made me smile and laugh when I was experiencing severe depressions.
I cracked up in uncontrollable laughter when Swayze said, "Oh, what in gay hell?" (is this? as Penn's car is seen behind them on the road). "To Wong Foo" is gay in every sense of the word (emphasis on bright, sunny, colorful, happy) and there is certainly nothing wrong with that. Say "Amen."

HAHAHAHAHA.......2007-03-05
This movie gets you going! The most comedy movie I have ever watched! When I first watched this movie I had pizza and choked me to death when I wasnt trying to laugh so hard. I was shocked that Patrick Swayze dressed up as drag queen and went on the road trip to Hollywood, CA with Wesley and John. I really think Patrick looked hot than Wesley and John tho.

A jewel of a sleeper, <I>The Man in the Moon</I> comes off as a nearly perfect short story of two sisters' first competition in the field of love. In a 1950's small Louisiana farm town, 14-year-old Dani falls for Court, a 17-year-old engaging neighbor boy. The two become great friends, but Court is more interested in Dani's 17-year-old sister, Maureen, who is blossoming. Dani will look for any justification why she should be with Court, but as human law dictates, there is no cure for a 14-year-old with a crush.
The film is another winning portrayal of small-town adolescence from Robert Mulligan (<I>To Kill A Mockingbird</I>). His eye for casting is impeccable, with Sam Waterston and Tess Harper as the earnest parents and newcomer Jason London as the dreamy Court. The real find, though, is Reese Witherspoon as Dani. Her timeless work here is magical. The PG-13 rating is a bit heavy-handed--although the film does not shy away from its look at budding sensuality, or a horrific and emotional accident. Mature 10-year-olds may find one of their favorite films here. <I>--Doug Thomas</I>
Description
Oscar(r) nominees* Sam Waterston and Tess Harper and veteran actress Gail Strickland (Norma Rae) join three talented newcomers in this deeply moving film (Los Angeles Times) about coming of age and sexual discovery in rural, 1950s Louisiana. Brilliantly directed by Robert Mulligan (To Kill a Mockingbird, The Summer of 42), The Man in the Moon is a poignant and bittersweet tale Roger Ebert calls a wonderful movie...a victory...a meticulously prepared masterpiece. Fourteen-year-old Dani (Reese Witherspoon) and her older sister Maureen (Emily Warfield) have always shared everything. But when Court Foster (Jason London) moves in next door, the sisters become rivals as Dani experiences her first feelings of affection and Maureen finds the true love she's longed for. But with love comes heartache, and the sisters soon learn a tough life lesson when tragedy strikes and the strength of their bond is the only thing that will keep theirhearts from breaking. *1984: Actor, The Killing Fields; 1986: Supporting Actress, Crimes of the Heart

Excellent movie.......2007-05-15
This movie was a joy to watch. NO nudity, NO bad language, just a simple story line about a family, a real family, and how they handle life. I have seen this movie more than once and will probably see it again.
Great Love Story.......2007-05-08
This movie is a great love story (love triangle). Most guys would call this movie a chick flick. It has great stars in it such as Reese Witherspoon, Sam Waterson, Jason London, and Tess Harper. This movie is a real tear jerker! A must see!!!

But then, she falls in love with the boy living next-door.They go swimming ALOT together. They really like eachother.... until..... Court [which is the boy Dani likes]see's Dani's older sister Marueen, and falls in love with her. Then,Court becomes Marueen's boy-friend.Dani can't belive it! Near the end of the movie,an unexpected death takes place.I don't want to spoil it,so thats all I'm telling you.Buy it,rent it,it's SOOOO WORTH IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
A Wonderful Movie.......2007-03-16
Absolutely excellent movie about a teenage kid (Reese W) who falls in love with a boy 3 years older who in turn falls for Reese's older sister, the acting is superb and Reese shows us in her debut movie what we have seen for many years now - that she is a great actress. this is a film for all ages that everyone can identify with - the teenage crush and subsequent heartbreak when things go wrong. the screenplay is exceptional and director Mulligan keeps the film interesting at all times.
A coming of age.......2007-01-11
Dani is in love with a boy next door, heartaches too.

You remember high school? Really remember? If you think you do, watch this film: it'll all really come racing back. After changing the world with the generation-defining <I>Slacker</I>, director Richard Linklater turned his free-range vérité sensibility on the 1970s. As before, his all-seeing camera meanders across a landscape studded with goofy pop culture references and poignant glimpses of human nature. Only this time around, he's spreading a thick layer of nostalgia over the lens (and across the soundtrack). It's as if <I>Fast Times at Ridgemont High</I> was directed by Jean-Luc Godard. The story deals with a group of friends on the last day of high school, 1976. Good-natured football star Randall "Pink" Floyd navigates effortlessly between the warring worlds of jocks, stoners, wannabes, and rockers with girlfriend and new-freshman buddy in tow. Surprisingly, it's not a coming-of-age movie, but a film that dares ask the eternal, overwhelming, adolescent question, "What happens next?" It's a little too honest to be a light comedy (representative quote: "If I ever say these were the best years of my life, remind me to kill myself."). But it's also way too much fun (remember souped-up Corvettes and bicentennial madness?) to be just another existential-essay-on-celluloid. <I>--Grant Balfour</I>
<b>On the DVD</b>
With a perfect combination of awesome '70s-era packaging and a totally rockin' selection of bonus features, the Criterion Collection's director-approved special edition two-disc release of Dazed and Confused instantly qualifies as one of the very best DVDs of 2006--the 30th anniversary of the Bicentennial, man! That's what I'm talkin' about! As a sublime companion piece to Criterion's release of Richard Linklater's previous film <I>Slacker</I>, the set comes in a slipcase (complete with "Physical Graffiti"-like picture-windows) festooned with Flair-pen high-school "doodling" (just like you'd scribble on your Pee Chee folders, back in the day), and the features get off on a high note (kinda like Slater, y'know?) with writer-director Linklater's feature-length commentary, which offers all aspiring filmmakers an important lesson protecting your vision and knowing when not to compromise. In recalling the many struggles he endured during production, Linklater covers a lot of territory (notes from the studio, the fantasy abundance of muscle cars, selection of music, and his acute disappointment when Robert Plant--but not Jimmy Page--refused to allow Led Zeppelin songs to be used in the film), and his engaging, good-humored perspective (and appropriate sense of vindication) clearly arises from his film's eventual acceptance as a classic. (For all you film buffs out there, Linklater quite rightly recommends Tim Hunter's Over the Edge and Lindsay Anderson's If... as "great teenage films" that defined the genre before Dazed.) The film itself never looked or sounded better (Linklater and cinematographer Lee Daniel supervised the high-def digital transfer), and a generous selection of deleted scenes will be welcomed by the film's legion of loyal fans.
The Disc 2 supplements are highlighted by Making "Dazed", filmmaker Kahane Corn's decade-in-the-making 50-minute documentary, chronicling all aspects of the production from casting to the Dazed tenth-anniversary celebration in Austin, Texas, in 2003. "Beer Bust at the Moon Tower" allows random viewing of a 118-minute compilation of behind-the-scenes footage, on-set interviews (with cast members both in and out of character), audition footage, and recollections from the anniversary bash. The accompanying 72-page booklet is a Criterion master-stroke: Designed like a small-scale high-school yearbook, it's filled with more "doodling" artwork, lots of photos, three appreciative mini-essays (the best being by journalist/author Chuck Klosterman), recollections by cast and crew, and humorous "Profiles in Confusion" portraits of the characters in Dazed, reprinted from the film's similarly designed companion book. It's all topped off by a miniature reproduction of the film's original poster, designed by Frank Kozik. In terms of capturing "The Spirit of '76" and the film's celebratory sense of anti-nostalgia, this is surely one of Criterion's finest releases to date. --Jeff Shannon
Customer Reviews:
One of the most accurate movies about adolescence.......2007-06-25
Dazed and Confused is smart, funny, and honest. It gives most every side of high school life in suburban America, and every stereotypical clique, fair treatment. The first time you watch it you will be entertained. Upon each successive viewing you will discover more elements of the fine storytelling, character development, and nuanced commentary on the dynamics of adolescent development in the ubiquitous setting of a boring, suburban, football-crazed town. Though it's fun to watch this filim with friends and maybe have a beer or two to feel some of the buzz that the characters have practically thoughout the story, it's also a good idea to watch this film attentively. There's a lot to see.
Many potential buyers will likely be interested in the deleted scenes. As is the case with most DVDs, you can clearly see why these ended up on the cutting room floor. All but one are totally worthless. In the most interesting one, an argument on the Vietnam War ensues between Pink, the "protaganist" we love, and Benny, his one-dimensional football teammate. Pink argues that the U.S. lost the war and ruined a country, while Benny argues that the U.S. won because "we killed way more of them dooks (sic) than they did us." Dawson says nothing. It presents a deeper view on Pink's dissatisfaction with his football scene, but it's not necessarily one we need. It's anything but subtle.
Great Movie!.......2007-06-09
We loved this movie, and apparently someone else loved the movie just as much because whoever it was, stole our movie! It was so great, if you love old movies, this one is a great one!
Not quite "Slacker"; worth it for Wiley Wiggins and others.......2007-05-29
I moved to Austin, Texas in June 1976. This movie is supposedly set in Austin during that time, but I think it fits more into West Texas. I don't think the hazing and the guns portrayed here were characteristic of Austin, which was a sleepy little college and state government town in 1976.
But the film is a period piece, which is a favorite genre for me and one has the chance to see if the producer/director gets things right, whether it's clothes, hairstyles, cars, etc. or whatever. Here they get most of that right. The "muscle cars" again suggest West Texas more than Austin; so does the football and the hazing. "Slacker" is explicitly set in Austin, and I recognize scenes from thirty years ago in that movie. But I need to check on this, because the "moonlight towers" scene here suggests that the movie is set in Austin. (Alas, I think those are gone now, as are some other landmarks.)
One of the most interesting things about this film is that actors like Ben Affleck and Matthew McConaughey are big stars now, but Wiley Wiggins steals every scene here, and BA and MM are cardboard characters. And the director failed to elicit some kind of ambiguity about the Affleck character. Why does he want to go around spanking these young boys?
Was this kind of hazing really a tradition at the school or what? Then again, the '70s were pretty free for kids compared to what we see today.
I think Wiggins in this movie is easily the best actor. And he is the central character. He doesn't have Jason London's classic good looks, but he has those "geeky" good looks that remind one of high school reunions where people see a classmate in a new light and wonder how anyone could have overlooked guys or girls who were maybe not that "popular" but who were really cool at the time and not that many people noticed. And like those kids, "Mitch", the Wiggins character here, is trying to figure out how he fits in or if he does, so the film reminds you maybe of yourself or of kids you knew who struggled.
You know the type. Maybe you were the type. So in a way, this movie is kind of like "Ridgmont High" meets "The Wonder Years".
Let's hope to see more of Wiggins; he's apparently still active in Austin, which is a great city but not as cool in some ways as it was thirty years ago. And thanks to stuff like cell phones, kids don't have the kind of adventures and fun they did back then, in Austin or anywhere.
Sweet.......2007-05-25
For those who don't think current-day teenagers would hit it off well with a movie about the last day of high school in 1976, think again. I loved this movie the first time I saw it, and have seen it four times since.
The themes in teenage life now are the same as they were then - rebellion and conformity, drugs, clashes with authority, the search for freedom and the testing of boundaries, the cliques of high school - and every viewer can find a character to identify with in "Dazed and Confused". We meet a diverse cast of stoners, jocks, nerds, newly inaugurated seniors, the freshest of freshmen, and we take an all too brief journey with them through the activities of the last day of school in 1976. It's just a snapshot of their life, but it's a vivid snapshot and it's one I never tire of looking at.
Randall "Pink" Floyd (Jason London) is as close to a protagonist as we get in this ensemble cast. He's a football player and an all-round good guy who slips effortlessly in and out of the different cliques. He smokes with the stoners, plays football with the jocks, shoots pool with the nerds, and takes pity on freshman Mitch Kramer (Wiley Wiggins) who as the brother of one of the senior girls, is the target of the jocks' fury.
Memorable performances come from every single member of this cast - Anthony Rapp, Adam Goldberg and Marissa Ribisi as geeks Tony, Mike and Cynthia, Ben Affleck doing a thoroughly amusing turn as O'Bannion (a football player who deliberately failed his exams so he could be a senior for two years in a row), Cole Hauser as jock Benny, Shawn Andrews as the school dealer Kevin, Wiley Wiggins as Mitch, and Sasha Jenson as Pink's best friend Don, among others.
For me, however, the shining stars here are Jason London himself, Rory Cochrane as stoner Slater, and Matthew McConaughey as Wooderson, that guy who leaves high school but just never seems to grow out of hanging out with teenagers. Jason London handles the struggle with his coach's blatant attempt at control - all football players must sign a commitment not to drink, smoke or engage in any other activities which might prevent them from performing at their best - just right, and by halfway through the movie you wish this guy was your best friend. McConaughey has some of the best lines in his movie, including the notorious and oft-quoted, "That's what I love about these high-school girls. I get older, they stay the same age," and of course his motto, "Just keep livin'. L-i-v-i-n." His Wooderson is slightly sleazy but never creepy and always very cool, and it's a shame that McConaughey made so many bad career choices after this movie, because it's clear here that he has real talent.
And Slater? Rory Cochrane turns the stoner archetype into a character I would personally love to take on a roadtrip. From the largely improvised Martha Washington speech to the way he laughs at the hazing of the freshmen, Cochrane has Slater - who is high on pot (and who also drops acid at one point) for the entire movie - down perfectly. Granted, we have the long hair and the constant use of "man", but in Cochrane's capable hands what could be a cliche is turned into a likable, unbelievably cool, REAL character.
If you want a feel-good seventies movie with good old-fashioned freshman hazing, a party, a fight, beer, and pot, this is your movie. If you want a philosophical look at high school and the uncertainty of the future, this is your movie. If you want a character study of a realistic cross-section of the teenage population, this is your movie.
What are you waiting for? Buy this movie. You won't regret it.
"The older you get, the more rules they're gonna try to get you to follow...".......2007-05-18
Texas, May 1976. It's the last day of school, which means the rising high school seniors will be busy hazing the rising freshmen amidst drinking, smoking dope, and trying to get laid. "Dazed and Confused," considered by some to be the greatest high school/'70s comedy of all-time, follows the lives of these students during a memorable 24-hour period.
Like many of Richard Linklater's films, "Dazed And Confused" is an ensemble piece with little plot. But the film's lack of plot actually works to its advantage because it gives the film a more naturalistic feel. Randall "Pink" Floyd (Jason London) is a star football player and rising senior trying to decide whether to play by team rules or rebel -- not to mention wondering where his life fits in the big scheme of things. Mitch Kramer (Wiley Wiggins) is a rising freshman trying to avoid a beatdown from Fred O'Bannion (Ben Affleck) and his cronies, while also finding romance, attempting to buy his first underage beer, and trying to fit in with an older crew.
Dazed is filled with notable cameos and characters, including Joey Lauren Adams ("Chasing Amy") and Parker Posey as bitchy rising seniors who delight in hazing the younger women, Adam Goldberg in classic nerd form, Matthew McConaughy as a post-grad pothead, and Rory Cochrane & Sasha Jenson as Pink's jock friends.
Among the talented cast, Wiggins, Affleck and McConaughey stand out. Wiggins feels authentic as the gawky freshman trying to fit in. As the idiotic O'Bannion, Affleck hilariously captures the meathead mentality. But the real star is McConaughey in an uproarious role as smooth stoner David Wooderson. After this breakout flick, McConaughey soon became a Hollywood heartthrob and saw his career regress due to poor role choices and miserable miscasting. Here, though, he exudes charisma and steals scene after scene with lines like, "That's what I like about these high school girls, I keep getting older, they stay the same age."
"Dazed" will undoubtedly have you reminsincing about the glorious high school years. But Linklater also invests the film with some subtle philosophical questions that are surprising to find in a nostalgic comedy like this. After a wild night of partying, Pink remarks to his friends, "All I'm saying is that if I ever start referring to these as the best years of my life -- remind me to kill myself." Interesting food for thought.
"Dazed and Confused" has gained a well-deserved cult following as one of the greatest party films of all-time. Lack of plot aside, this is a riotously entertaining flick that's guaranteed to generate a ton of laughs and get you into the party spirit.

The frantic pacing of <I>Big Trouble</I> is surely intentional, but the movie leaves you wanting more of... <I>something</I>. Not more characters--it's got plenty of those--but more room for them to breathe in a top-heavy plot that recalls <I>Get Shorty</I> (also directed by Barry Sonnenfeld) without reaching those heights of ingenuity. Based on the bestseller by syndicated <I>Miami Herald</I> columnist Dave Barry, this Miami-based mayhem bears the distinct imprint of Barry's humor, in which absurdities pile up like rush-hour traffic, involving a former journalist (Tim Allen) connected by circumstance to a wealthy schemer (Stanley Tucci), his bored wife (Rene Russo), Russian mobsters, mismatched cops (Janeane Garofalo, Patrick Warburton), power-crazed FBI agents (Heavy D, Omar Epps), a Frito-loving drifter (Jason Lee), cretinous criminals (Tom Sizemore, Johnny Knoxville), and a gigantic toad that shoots hallucinogenic saliva. Culminating in an airport bomb smuggling (prompting the film's delayed release after the tragedy of September 11, 2001), <I>Big Trouble</I> needs the brilliant cohesion of <I>Dr. Strangelove</I>; what it gets is Sonnenfeld's knack for sustained chaos, and a few decent belly laughs. <I>--Jeff Shannon</I>
Description
The laughs come fast and furious as Tim Allen (JOE SOMEBODY, GALAXY QUEST) and Rene Russo (SHOWTIME, THE THOMAS CROWN AFFAIR) star in a film from Barry Sonnenfeld, director of GET SHORTY and MEN IN BLACK. Based on humorist Dave Barry's best-selling first novel, BIG TROUBLE follows the comedic chaos created when a mysterious suitcase that threatens the security of Miami changes the lives of a divorced dad, an unhappy housewife, 2 hit men, a pair of street thugs, 2 love-struck teens, 2 FBI men, and a psychedelic toad. There is something for everyone no matter who is looking for BIG TROUBLE -- and in the end, all-star comedy conquers all.

Not as good as the book, but still very funny.......2007-03-19
This is a funny movie! If you haven't read the book, see the movie, then read the book. But do both!
funny, funny.......2007-02-12
This movie has it all. Dave Barry, Tim Allen, Florida, crooks, bozos, cops, bozos, goats, a bomb and Martha Stewart (NOT like you would expect - trust me).
Silly + Idiotic = Classic Dave Berry Video.......2007-01-16
The book "Big Trouble" was Dave Barry's first novel and was his first effort into 'full length' literature. Of course, Dave Barry had already been writing for several years before he penned "Big Trouble" but most of his works up to that time had been ten-minute stories for the Miami Herald. Even his many books were little more than compilations of his weekly newspaper pieces. But "Big Trouble" was different. It had a story to tell. It was a funny story (how could Dave Barry do anything else?) and I enjoyed it tremendously!
But now, "Big Trouble" has been made into a movie and like all other movies-from-books, I expected "Big Trouble", the movie, to have very little in common with "Big Trouble", the book. But I was pleasently surprised because the movie followed the book very closely! Everything that I thought was funny in the book was repeated, mostly word-for-word, in the movie. The producer and director aparrently didn't feel that they could improve on Dave Barry's writing style and the video audience is so much the better for it. (Now if we could only convince other movie producers to follow the original books more faithfully...)
Anyway, my wife and I (both big Dave Barry fans) watched the movie on a quiet evening during the Christmas holidays and we thoroughly enjoyed it. We didn't expect the movie to be a statement on any current politics (the Iraq War, The Bush Administration, Britney Spears nekkid internet pictures, etc) nor did we expect the movie to solve any of mankind's problems (world hungar, disease, Britney Spears, etc.) What we got was what we expected - silly, corny humor and a good reason to sit on the couch and wolf down a bucket of popcorn. If it's something important and meaningful that you crave, forget this video. Watch a Britney Spears video instead.
More like Big Fun!.......2007-01-12
This is a great movie! Everybody and their mother is in it and it is just full of funny stuff! Even if you don't like Tim Allen, you will like this movie!
Big Trouble - funniest movie in years!.......2007-01-04
Big Trouble based on the novel by Dave Barry that i read first and probably the book is a little , just a little bit funnier. The actors are amazing (Dennis Farina and the seat belt, gators fan!), all duets are so funny that everybody will find their favorites!

Description
America, 1976. The last day of school. Bongs blaze, bell-bottoms ring, and rock and roll rocks. Among the best teen films ever made, Richard Linklater's Dazed and Confused eavesdrops on a group of seniors-to-be and incoming freshmen. A launching pad for a number of future stars, Linklater's first studio effort also features endlessly quotable dialogue and a blasting, stadium-ready soundtrack. Sidestepping nostalgia, Dazed and Confused is less about "the best years of our lives" than the boredom, angst, and excitement of teenagers waiting . . . for something to happen

Sophomore jinx hit hard in this second film by Kevin Smith, whose debut <I>Clerks</I> transcended the limits of its setting and budget to become something memorably funny. (Smith followed <I>Mallrats</I> with the wonderful <I>Chasing Amy</I>, so <I>Mallrats</I> definitely had the old curse.) A ramshackle comedy set in a mall, the film follows several story lines involving lovers, enemies, friends, goofballs, and Smith's own "silent" character, who also appeared in <I>Clerks</I> and <I>Chasing Amy</I>. A heavy self-consciousness weighs on everything, as if Smith forgot how to make obscenity funny instead of tedious. Still, it's nice to see some of the director's film family on screen, among them Jason Lee and Joey Lauren Adams. <I>--Tom Keogh</I>
Product Description
From Kevin Smith, the acclaimed director of Clerks, comes this outrageous story of two loafers, Jeremy London (The Babysitter) and Jason Lee (Kissing a Fool), who spend way too much time hanging out at the mall.
When Brodie (Lee) is dumped by his girlfriend, Shannen Doherty (Heathers, Girls Just Wanna Have Fun), he retreats to the mall with his best friend T.S. (London), whose girlfriend has also left him. Between brooding and visits to the food court, the unmotivated twosome decide to win their girlfriends back with the help of the ultimate delinquents, Silent Bob (Kevin Smith) and Jay (Jason Mewes), whose continuing adventures take the word nuisance to a whole new level.

This movie is by far the second best movie by Kevin Smith (first is Clerks II). Brody and T.S. are some of the most overlooked characters in Kevin Smith's world. Between Jay & Silent Bob's best jobs, the sailboat, the stink palm, and the other hysterical characters in this movie, you have to watch this one to understand some of the humor in some of Kevin's later movies.
I loved this movie, and if you arent into all the sex-related dialogue of Clerks and Jay & Silent Bob, this is THE movie to pick up to get into the series.
(I have watched it enough times to memorize all of the lines, and yet I still laugh at it, its just that good.)
fantatic.......2007-05-22
this is a really funny movie, with jay and silent bob at their best. Although it is probably kevins worst movie, it still is great, and definitley worth a buy.
what can I say, its good.......2007-05-04
Not my fav of the Kevin Smith movies but one to see. I have seen it quite a few times. Good movie.
Excellent Underground Movie.......2007-01-14
Jay and Silent Bob often command a sort of cult following with their screenplays and this is quite possibly one of their best. Middle America can relate to the travesties of TS and Brodie all to well as our heros battle complacency and women. I love this movie, and stay away from escalators!!!

Description
From Kevin Smith, the acclaimed director of Clerks, comes this outrageous story of two loafers, Jeremy London (The Babysitter) and Jason Lee (Kissing a Fool), who spend way too much time hanging out at the mall. When Brodie (Lee) is dumped by his girlfriend, Shannen Doherty (Heathers, Girls Just Wanna Have Fun), he retreats to the mall with his best friend T.S. (London), whose girlfriend has also left him. Between brooding and visits to the food court, the unmotivated twosome decide to win their girlfriends back with the help of the ultimate delinquents, Silent Bob (Kevin Smith) and Jay (Jason Mewes), whose continuing adventures take the word "nuisance" to a whole new level.

<I>Out Cold</I>, which looks like it would be nothing more than a spectacular series of snowboarding stunts, is actually a homage to <I>Casablanca</I> set on a rustic Alaskan ski slope called Bull Mountain. Rick (Jason London from <I>Dazed and Confused</I>), who hopes to run Bull Mountain, can't forget about Anna, the French girl he romanced while vacationing in Mexico. When a ruthless developer (Lee Majors, star of <I>The Six Million Dollar Man</I>) wants to turn the rough-and-tumble site into a sleek, tourist-friendly resort named Snownook, Rick discovers that Anna is the developer's daughter. Will he be seduced to the dark side by love and ambition? Alongside scenes "borrowed" from <I>Casablanca</I>, there's an abundance of high jinks with Rick's slacker snow buddies, cute girls (including <I>Playmate of the Year</I> Victoria Silvstedt), and some pretty amazing snowboarding sequences. Dumb but good-natured fun, and Majors clearly enjoys himself as the bad guy. <I>--Bret Fetzer</I>
Description
This wild comedy is an intoxicating mix of mountain-high hilarity and radical winter sports action! For snowboarders Rick (Jason London -- DAZED AND CONFUSED), Luke (Zach Galifianakis -- BUBBLE BOY), and their buddies, life at the Bull Mountain ski area is about partying hard, looking for girls, and doing anything for a good time! But when the town's founder dies, his son decides to sell the mountain to a sleazy developer (Lee Majors -- TV's SIX MILLION DOLLAR MAN) who's intent on turning Bull Mountain into a slick yuppie ski resort! Featuring outrageous stunts by real-life snowboarding champions like Todd Richards, Rio Tahara, Tara Dakides, Devun Walsh, and Rob "Sluggo" Boyce -- and a red-hot soundtrack -- it's an avalanche of laughs as the guys do whatever it takes to save their mountain.

great service!.......2007-06-12
the movie is awesome, and the service through amazon was great, they were fast and if anything goes wrong they are quick to solve it and they kept me in touch through email so that i knew what was goin on at all times. thank you
I own it too.......2007-05-12
I felt like I was watching a more upbeat version of Casablanca...it was funny and I would watch it again. Thus the reason I own it.
funny movie.......2007-01-30
This movie is a great movie full of laughs, i saw it a while ago and remembered it being good, so i bought it from amazon. I watched it again and it still was good, but it's not amazing, i kind of built it up to be more than what it is! But it's still a great flic! I'd recommend it for a good laugh!
Out of this world comedy.......2007-01-08
Winter sport and comedy lovers will find this predictable but hilarious. We all know the story. The cute misunderstood guys get their mountain (ski resort) in the end but the way they get it is very funny. Naturally there's a bad guy who tries to buy the mountain and commercialize it, and there is a love triangle just to appeal to everyone. The extreme skiing scenes will make you feel their pain while you're laughing. Don't let any of this keep you from seeing it. If you like comedies you owe it to yourself to see this one.
I know I shouldn't like this ... but I do........2006-09-14
Yes, the movie is juvenile. Yes, the movie has some gross out moments. Yes, the plot is basic.
But it is still fun! I know that now that I am in my twenties, I am supposed to be more into classical films and literature, and modern smart and well written films and literature, and I am, but I also really like movies like this.
Films like Out Cold, Hackers, Grind , etc. all have that same magical combination of good times, outrageous skills or situations, comedy, adventure, and some deeper meaning. Ultimately, these types of movies speak to the inner child in all of us, especially those of us that missed out on some of the light hearted teen years, due to some reason, or another.
Don't watch this movie to learn anything, or to expand your mind. Watch it to have a good time, and get some great laughs.

GRIND.......2007-06-12
These four skaters Eric, Dustin, Matt and Sweet Lou are trying to get sponsored by Jimmy Wilson, a professional skateboarder. They have a lot of obstacles they have to go through to make it to the top. There skate team brings a lot of difficulties and girls with them. On their journey the boys get stuck cleaning pools, toilets and their van. These boys finally get there chance to show Jimmy what they got but he leaves the team to chase him. When Jimmy finds a tape of them skateboarding on his bus he finds them and sponsors them. Later Eric's wish comes true he get's his name on the board.
This movie was really good and I think other people will like it too. This film was a book before the movie was made. This is not a movie for kids younger than 13 years of age.
I would recommend this movie to any one over 13 years of age. I would also recommend this movie to anyone who skateboards.
INSANELY GREAT MOVIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.......2007-06-12
GRIND
Casey La Scala
"Dudes, get the moron outta' the pool."
With hilarious lines like that, you know "GRIND" is a hit. GRIND is all about some average-Joe skaters who want to make it big time. They believe that if they get in front of a pro just once, they'll get sponsored. They run into some hilarious predicaments along the way, and "Mick-job" their way through it all. As long as you're with the "Super Duper Skate Team", you'll fall to the ground laughing and never get up! I guarantee that if you watch this movie a few times, you'll be imitating it months later.
Partners-in-crime Eric Rivers (Mike Vogul), Dustin Knight (Adam Brody), Sweet Lou (Joey Kern), and Matt Jensen (Vince Vieluf) make this film the funniest I've ever seen. I have watched this movie at least 50 times. In my opinion, the character of Matt completely makes the movie.
I recommend this movie to all near the age of 13, considering it's rating (PG-13), and even if you don't skateboard, you'll still love this insanely hilarious comedy.
Utterly Boring, Bland & Unfunny!.......2006-10-02
As movies go, this must be the most boring one I ever saw. And I've seen heaps. It's basically a run of the mill Teen Flick, but without the jokes and the nude babes that are usually at the center of such features. It is utterly unfunny and the characters are bland if not annoying. I couldn't even bear to watch it all the way to the end. Really, if you're looking for a fun or at least moderately entertaining teen flick, look elsewhere. Try 'Old School Unrated', 'School of Rock' or 'Road Trip' if you want uncomplicated fun. Try 'Thirteen' or 'Spun' if you're looking for something grittier. I'd Leave this one well alone if you don't want to be bored to death...
BEST MOVIE EVER MADE! NO JOKE!.......2006-08-02
This is by far one of the funniest movies ever made. I've seen it 1,000,000 times and every time laugh over and over again. The best part of the movie has to be Mike Vogel who is the hottest person in the entire world. Not only is he smoking but he is also a very talented actor and is hilarious. 5 STARS AND MORE! GO RENT IT NOW YOU WILL LOVE IT!
A Road Trip Changes Their Lives.......2006-05-29
Grind is a exciting ride that will keep you in your seat through the whole movie! I like it because I like skateboarding, and even if you don't enjoy skateboarding, it will still keep you cracking up throughout the movie. And if you haven't started skateboarding, it will encourage to go out there and buy a board right away! It's a laugh out loud comedy that will keep your face red the whoooole movie.
