The first episode aired the week I moved to the US - hooked me right away. How frustrating then that I moved from temporary housing to my own place with no TV!

The great news - nbc.com is currently (June 07) streaming the shows for free at acceptable quality so I've been catching up at 2 shows per night!

Of course they won't be there for ever, so if you just have to have this to watch at any time in the future, or you need it at best quality, then click the "add to cart" button now!

It'll be interesting to see what season 2 brings - IMHO, this is a great 1 season show and should have been tied up already.

5 out of 5 stars This show is what we needed.......2007-06-19

At a time when the world is at war, when we are all distracted by our own lives and our own hangups etc, its seems that the WORLD waited for a way to have something else to look to. Who knew it would be a TV show that gives us everyday people with everyday problems, who just happen to discover that they have extraordinary powers and abilities.

What makes HEROES unique is the human element, the fact that the story itself is treated not as a "what if" senario based in real situations, but as a "This could really be happening" situation. The show is character driven and wonderfully written as well.
Stan Lee says that when he created Spider-man people could relate because he was the most accessable and believable of all the other comic book characters and because he was more human and vulnerable.
I think that's why HEROES works so well it takes everyday people and places them in the these comic book like scenarios. This show is about love, loss and in the end hope. The kind of hope that this world is missing now, and that's why the world embraced HEROES, because inside of us we all wish that we could SAVE THE CHEERLEADER, SAVE THE WORLD and for an hour each night we did

1 out of 5 stars Worst finale ever.......2007-06-18

The finale was such a let down. I know the mindless masses all have heroes fever but anyone can tell that they've already run out of ideas. The end of the season stank of the "hurry up and think of something for these last few episodes" syndrome. My prediction is that this show will severely flounder in season 2 because they've already used up all their ideas.

1 out of 5 stars written and performed by idiots............2007-06-17

Leave it to NBC/Universal to come up with a show that is as stupid as say the revamped Battlestar Galactica, Smallville, and the Law and Order shows.

This series is too bad to be a soap opera, weak characters that sink to a new low even for prime time televisions, and doing muti arc storylines that would be more at home on a video game. As a matter of fact, playing a video game would be worth more your time then watching this garbage.

If you've ever doubted how much a star can carry a movie, look no further than <I>Legally Blonde</I>, Robert Luketic's pop fluff about a sorority girl who becomes the reigning brain at Harvard Law School. The film tries way too hard to <I>be</I> pop fluff, but thankfully it also understands the comic glories of Reese Witherspoon. As Elle Woods, the supposedly dimwitted heroine, Witherspoon gives a high-wattage performance that somehow comes across as both lusciously cartoonish and warmly human. It's a radiant comic turn worthy of Marilyn Monroe, and Luketic throws the whole movie at her, even though its intentional kitsch and sledgehammer contrivances don't trust you enough to figure out on your own what might be guilty fun about it. It's a lame movie, essentially, that redeems itself by knowing just enough to keep things sunny and moving right along. The film is content to follow several steps behind the regal Witherspoon, carrying her train. You probably will be, too. <I>--Steve Wiecking</I>

Now getting Warner back should be a snap, right? Wrong! Elle's about to begin the toughest fight of her lifefor love, honor, justice and respect for blondes everywhere!

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Excellent light entertainment.......2007-06-22

So much is great about this film. Ok, it's not flawless - there are a couple of really silly bits - like the courtroom scene with the pool cleaner's guilty admission and his boyfriend's response. But it's great, feel-good fun. Very well directed, tight script for the most-part and the performances are all great.

3 out of 5 stars Fun--but not strictly a no brainer.......2007-05-30

Cases can hinge on haircare--and not everyone is as they seem. The film was mindless fun on one level, but teaches you really do need to look a little bit deeper sometimes.

Clearly it's fantasy, but a lot of fun.

5 out of 5 stars Memorable chick flick.......2007-05-19

Elle Woods (Reese Witherspoon) is a ditzy, yet intelligent sorority president and fashion major with the perfect, handsome, and smart boyfriend, Warner. When Warner dumps her because she isn't "the serious girlfriend he needs" to advance his career, her whole world comes crashing down around her. After weeks of friend's concern, manicures, and moping Elle realizes that the only way to get Warner back is to become a serious girlfriend, meaning starting a career in law at Harvard. Elle actually manages to get into Harvard, her specialty being the history of polka dots, with a high score on her LSATs, and with an original admissions video in which she showcases her talent for using legal jargon in everyday life and her ability to recall facts quickly, such as the previous day's soap operas. So Elle gathers her possesions, most of which are pink, prepares Bruiser, her miniture short haired chihuahua, and sets off for Harvard.

This movie was not what I expected, but I loved it! It's a great chick flick to watch with a group of friends and has memorable characters. Elle teaches us that all we need is determination (and good fashion sense!) to achieve our dreams.

5 out of 5 stars Great Movie for Teenage Girls.......2007-05-10

This movie is not only funny but gives a moral to the story. Women can succeed at anything they put there minds to.

4 out of 5 stars Legally Fine.......2007-04-24

Despite it's superficial gloss it really is a wonderful movie. The casting is great, especially Selma Blair's drop-jaw performance as her rival who later becomes her friend; the way the title character who invests all her dreams in a man goes out to become studied to win him and then decides that she's better off without him anyway. The way innocence sometimes is able to accomplish things in a laconic manner that the pretentious are not able to. All these things speak of universal truths down through the centuries dressed in pink shades of fluff that make it palatable for everyone.

I was impressed by not merely the fast pacing of the movie, but its ability to avoid dwelling on a cuteness that it's unashamed to promulgate and which it does packing socially astute observations; such as the scene with the shy lawyer being rebuffed by two enamoratas who are suddenly swayed by the fact that after all another woman gives him amorous currency.

The classroom scenes are fun too. All in all a well-made, fun film with a good message of empowerment for young women, and for everyone else for that matter.

5 out of 5 stars Heroes on HD DVD. A Must Buy!!.......2007-06-03

Heroes was without a single doubt the single best new show of this television season. While shows like 24 and Lost had disapointing seasons, Heroes just shined from start to finish. This wasnt just my favorit show of this seson but it was honestly one of the best first seasons to a TV show I have ever seen right along side Lost season 1. I wouldnt hesitate for a second on picking this up. The fact that it is coming to HD DVD is just a huge huge bonus as this is without a single doubt the type of TV show made for HD. Everything from the subject matter to the look of the show fit HD like a glove. The fact that it has bonus features like the entire unaired 73 minute pilot episode is just another reason that this set will be a must buy for people. Honestly having the unaired pilot to a show that ultimatly ended up becoming this successful and this popular really makes this one of the best extras every included in a televison show both for HD and SD.

As for the people saying they are going to wait for the better BD release I can only laugh at such optimism. First off BD is not better than HD DVD and I know first hand as I have both formats and second Universal is exclusive to HD DVD and there is literally zero evidence that they will ever release on BD. act is they have a contract with HD DVD that runs until the end ofthis year and I fully expect them to renew that contract as they would be really stupid not too. So keep on hoping and waiting for your season 1 of Heroes on BD and in the mean time us HD DVD owners will be content to actually watch our copies. Its time to just start facing the facts and the facts are this war is practically in a dead heat and both of these formats are going to be around for years to come. Universal is on HD DVD's side and if you really think Toshiba and Microsoft arent willing to pay them every single penny that they require to keep things that way then your living in la la land. Same can be said for BD and Disney. It wont be until these formats are so popular that these studios literally start losing hundreds of millions of dollars by not supporting the other side that they will even begin to look at that option.

If your a Universal nut like me and if yur a Heroes nut like me, do yourself a favor and pick up the far less expenisive HD DVD and start enjoying it now instead of hoping that in a year or two that there might be a chance for this set coming out on BD. Why pay hundreds of dollars more on lesser quality players to have to sit back and wait? Buy HD DVD now, get your 5 free movies from Toshba or 7 free movies from Amazon and order Heroes, you wont regret it!!

3 out of 5 stars WHATS ON THE DISCS????.......2007-06-01

I realize the show is good already and I'll probably buy it. However, what extras are included? When I buy compilation disks, I want it packed with exclusives, commentaries, extras and the BIZNESS. whats on these ones?

5 out of 5 stars Heroes in HD DVD is going to be Awesome!.......2007-05-29

I can't beleive it is finally going to happen...HD DVD gets Heroes! My husband loves this series. This will be a must buy! Thank You HD DVD!!!

5 out of 5 stars AMAZING AND GLORY HD-DVD.......2007-05-29

Thanks God, only on HD-DVD, Blu-Ray is so costy and so many problems with company's lawsuit amd losing so many money nearly cost'em their business. Anyway, HEROES is one of my top 5 shows of MUST WATCH and amazing story-teller. Can't wait for second season. Top 5 shows are HEROES, LOST, SMALLVILLE, THE 4400 and SUPERNATURAL. I'm willing to add BONES and CSI series. Anyway, this show is amazing and very very well-made, just a bit over well-made show. Just too damn good like LOST! But, therefore... show isn't for little kiddies, there is lot of blood and some gores in the show. But friggin' awsome! I hate kiddio films or watering down shows, that's all folks!

5 out of 5 stars Best show of '06-'07 season.......2007-05-28

Heroes was by far the best show this year. I'm just hoping that it doesn't lose its appeal/credibility like LOST did. LOST ran out of ideas half way through the first season, but Heroes stayed compelling throughout. I have faith that next fall will bring another excellent season.

For those wondering about a Blu-ray version, it won't come out until Universal begins to release Blu-ray discs. They own NBC and are a studio supporting HD-DVD, therefore you'll have to wait until the studio support Blu-ray to get that version. But in the meantime enjoy it on HD-DVD if you can!

The words "subtle" and "Ashton Kutcher" rarely appear in the same sentence, but here goes: <I>A Lot Like Love</I>, a romantic comedy starring Ashton Kutcher and Amanda Peet, is surprisingly and pleasantly subtle. The story starts when Emily (Peet, <I>Igby Goes Down</I>) and Oliver (Kutcher, <I>Dude, Where's My Car?</I>) meet on a flight to New York and have a tryst in the airplane bathroom. After a day's dalliance, they part and don't meet again for four years--when they meet, spend a day together, part, and don't meet again until...you begin to get the idea. The script could have been dangerously cute, but director Nigel Cole (who helmed the delightful <I>Calendar Girls</I>) carefully steers Peet and Kutcher, two actors not generally noted for their grasp of character nuance, towards fairly three-dimensional portrayals of two floundering twentysomethings who can't seem to find the right moment. There are a few rom-com cliches--at one point, Oliver serenades Emily in front of an audience of her neighbors--but most of the movie is low-key, engaging, and smacks of actual human experience. Also featuring Kal Penn (<I>Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle</I>) and Kathryn Hahn (<I>Anchorman</I>). <I>--Bret Fetzer</I>

Description

In the spirit of WHEN HARRY MET SALLY comes A LOT LIKE LOVE, the romantic comedy about destiny and the possibilities of a chance encounter evolving into a close encounter of the happily-ever-after kind. Ashton Kutcher (GUESS WHO) and Amanda Peet (SOMETHING'S GOTTA GIVE) set off sparks as opposites who attract and have a one-flight stand from LA to New York. When the trip's over, they are too -- and both move on but can't really let go. As they search for love that doesn't end in disaster, they keep finding each other. And while the chemistry that first brought them together keeps generating heat, the timing is always wrong. This funny and disarming story of modern romance will have you falling in love over and over again.

I ignored this movie when it came out in theaters. I had assumed it would be dumb and corny. Then I saw it on one of the movie channels and bought the DVD the same night. It's every bit as funny as it's supposed to be, and much better overall than you think it's going to be. My wife is listening to the soundtrack and dancing around the room as I write this. Even the music is good. Ashton Kutcher does an excellent job playing Oliver, the man with the 6 year plan for the perfect life. Amanda Peet is extremely entertaining as the phantom girlfriend, here today and gone tomorrow, only to reconnect a few years later again and again. Amanda and Ashton are clearly having a genuinely good time together as they make this film, and you see that it's real when you watch the bloopers in the extra features. The ending is not entirely predictable, although you can't say you didn't see it coming. But even so, it doesn't matter because it's what you wanted anyway. This is a good movie. Trust me. You'll like it.

5 out of 5 stars Great! Movie!.......2007-05-12

2 out of 5 stars Flaccid, Time-Spanning Rom-Com Plays Strictly by the Numbers.......2007-04-17

There is a certain manufactured charm to this 2005 romantic comedy given its predilection to be a hybrid between When Harry Met Sally... and Before Sunrise/Before Sunset with faint echoes of any number of classic time-spanning romances like Same Time, Next Year and Two for the Road. Unfortunately, the comparisons do not benefit this film given the colorless way that first-time screenwriter Colin Patrick Lynch has spelled out the formulaic elements of the story. An additional burden falls on the attractive leads, Ashton Kutcher and Amanda Peet, neither of whom seem fully formed as screen personas with any gravitas to keep us interested in the hapless characters they portray.

Directed by Nigel Cole in a relatively adroit manner, the episodic story centers on Oliver and Emily, a case study in opposites who begin an unexpected relationship with a bathroom fling on a transcontinental flight to New York. They have a day-long romantic whirl once they touch ground but soon part with no expectation of seeing each other again. This episode represents the ongoing structure of the plot, as they continue to meet up again and again over the course of seven years, experiencing the inevitable sparks but allowing professional and romantic complications to act as a perpetual barrier to any lasting commitment.

Contrived plot turns as presented here could be at least redeemed by the charms of the stars, but this is a stumbling block. As he showed in 2005's Guess Who, Kutcher is simply too lightweight a presence on the big screen. Even though he achieves moments of subtlety, the overall effect he achieves is blandness. Looking a tad mature for her partner, Peet fares marginally better simply because her character arc seems more developed. Together they make a charming couple but hardly memorable nor emotionally resonant. The DVD comes with an equally colorless commentary track from Cole and producers Armyan Bernstein and Kevin Messick, along with a brief blooper reel, four deleted scenes of minimal interest, and a music video, "Brighter Than Sunshine", performed by Aqualung, one of many trendy artists featured on the soundtrack.

4 out of 5 stars Lots of Fun!!!.......2007-04-04

I truly enjoyed this movie....the two main characters have great chemistry together. I do feel, however, that one of the deleted scenes should have been included as it explained more fully what had taken place during the year after Oliver's company received the VC money. Otherwise, I liked the film.

This MTV-produced drama only looks like an adaptation of H.G. Bissinger's expert dissertation of the church of high school football, <I>Friday Night Lights</I>. The energetic, breezy movie has none of the seriousness of Bissinger's book except on its basic level: in West Texas, high school football is life. Into this world comes Jonathan "Mox" Moxon (James Van Der Beek), a brainy, uncharacteristic jock who sits on the sideline reading <I>Slaughterhouse Five</I> until the West Caanan High School Coyotes All-Texas QB goes down with an injury. Suddenly the spotlight and the tyrannical ways of coach Bud Kilmer (another ace evil turn by Jon Voight) are on Mox and the light is white-hot. There have been several films that show tough, honest kids doing their best against the worst of small-town coaches (Tom Cruise in <I>All the Right Moves</I>, for one) but <I>Varsity Blues</I>, in its glossy style, takes a more curious turn: studying what happens when celebrity comes to the well-adjusted high schooler. Mox starts seeing the rewards of stardom: a six-pack under the counter, acceptance in school, even easy sex from the girl who goes after the starting quarterback (Ali Larter). Will Mox win the big game? Will he bend to the wills of his coach? Will he stay with his old girlfriend? The questions are easy enough to answer, but the film has an ace up its sleeve: Van Der Beek has the stuff to carry the movie. Fans of TV's <I>Dawson's Creek</I> will see a slightly grittier dreamboat here, and Van Der Beek's care with the role makes the most ludicrous parts--including a trip to a strip club--manage a certain aura. <I>--Doug Thomas</I>

5 out of 5 stars fun and true.......2006-09-09

Okay, this is not a deep thought provoking documentary; it is, however, an uncannily accurate depiction of small town life in general and small town football in particular. Of course there are the riotous moments of teen insanity specifically unique to small towns (have you ever played quarters with a pet pig in your vicinity?) and Tweeder stealing the police car is just classic, no matter where you are from. Underneath the comedy, though, there is a lot of truth to these characters and this story. Football is a small town religion, and every Friday night is a worship service at the altar of the pigskin. The movie captures this feeling well, along with the frustration of feeling trapped in a small town and wondering if you will ever get out -- and if you do get out, where will you go? Nevermind that Van der Beek's accent is not terribly authentic, or that this ***spoiler alert*** has a somewhat sappy ending. If you grew up in a small town, you can probably put a name on each of these characters; if you didn't, get the movie and find out what it's like.

4 out of 5 stars "Good Moooning, Good Mooning, Good Mooning".......2006-07-10

The movie is based on a "piece" of everyone's life, in some small way, who have ever played football. Does it matter that HS kids get in a strip club and drink till 6:00am ? "NO" Does it matter that Hoss is sitting on a tailgate, drinking Jack like its water ... and shooting a shotgun, with the HS Football Field lights on ? "NOOOOO" !!!!

It is "Rocky" + "Friday Night Lights" + "Rudy" + "Stand By Me" = Varisty Blues.

If you played football, or ever hung out with the guys after a game, or ever LAUGHED at the guys who couldn't leave HS even after they graduated 9 years ago ... Then buy the movie, its worth it, and the soundtrack ROCKS !!!!

5 out of 5 stars Great Football Movie.......2005-11-14

This is by far my favorite movie about football. It is about football players playing in a small town where the dads wished they were still playing and the coach is mean son of a gun that has to get his way. It is very entertaining and and has some funny parts and some serious ones too. BillyBob and Tweeder provide tons of laughs in this movie. James Van Der Beek does a good job in this movie as the backup quarterback that becomes the star starting quarterback when the starter gets hurt. Jon Voigt also does a good job in this movie playing the mean coach. All in all this movie was extremely good with some great football action and some very funny moments.

5 out of 5 stars Varsity Blues.......2005-10-24

by Aaron Miller.

The starting quarterback Lance is injured. The second string quarterback steps up and takes his team to the playoffs.

A good action scene was when the offensive guard Billy Bob blocks for a game-winning touchdown. The football game showed great action when second string quarterback Mox goes and wins the game after the first string quarterback gets hurt.

I enjoyed the suspense of Varsity Blues, when quarterback Lance gets hurt. You didn't know if he will come back into the game. I also enjoyed the suspense in the scene where quarterback Mox takes his team to the playoffs and out of nowhere wins the game.

A good comedy scene is when Tweeter stole the cop car after getting drunk. A romance scene would be when Mox and his girlfriend went on a date. Another scene of drama would
be when Mox and his girlfriend make up.

If you enjoy football movies you should rent and watch Varsity Blues.

3 out of 5 stars Good movie, but not enough Paul Walker.......2005-07-28

Okay, I know this was a James Van Der Beek geared movie, but I wish it had shown more of Paul Walker's character. One of the most interesting things about the story was that Lance and Jonathan were best friends. We never really got to see how these guys actually worked through the strains that were put on their friendship by everything that happened - before and during the movie.

Jonathan had been in Lance's shadow for years. Everyone in town worshiped Lance, young and old. Then Jon became the star because Lance got hurt. Lance's girlfriend dropped him and went after Jon. Jon got into Brown Univeristy while Lance's dreams went down the drain. I mean, one trip to the the strip club and everythings okay?

Paul Walker is a good actor and could have done great with some meatier scenes and a bigger role. Too bad the director couldn't see that.

But that aside, Van Der Beek is good and Jon Voight was perfect as the coach.

While hardly a spiritual upgrade of the slasher film, this high-concept teen body-count thriller drops hints of <I>The Sixth Sense</I> into the smart-aleck sensibility of <I>Scream</I>. Helmed by <I>X-Files</I> veteran James Wong, who cowrote the screenplay with longtime creative partner Glen Morgan, Final Destination is an often entertaining thriller marked by an unsettling sense of unease and scenes of eerie imagery. It suffers, however, from a schizophrenic tone and a frankly ludicrous premise. A high school Cassandra, Alex Browning (Devon Sawa of <I>Idle Hands</I>), wakes from a preflight nightmare and panics when he's convinced the plane is doomed. His ruckus bumps seven passengers from the Paris-bound plane, which immediately explodes into a fireball on takeoff, but fate hasn't finished with these lucky few and, one by one, death claims them. Wong brings such a funereal tone to these early scenes of survivor's guilt and inevitable doom that the already far-fetched film threatens to veer into unplanned absurdity. Thankfully, the tale loosens up with a playful morgue humor: one of the victims winds up the splattered punch line to a grim joke and elaborate Rube Goldbergesque chains of cause and effect become inspired spectacles of destruction. <I>Final Destination</I> is a pretty silly thriller when it takes itself seriously, and the filmmakers play fast and loose with their own rules of fate, but once they stick their tongues firmly in cheek, the film takes off with a screwy interpretation of the domino effect of doom. <I>--Sean Axmaker</I>

3 out of 5 stars 3.5. solid atmosphere but has its issues.......2007-04-15

Like music "scenes"; from hair metal to grunge to nu-metal to garage rock, films as well have their eras. 80's masked killers slashers (Halloween) to the 90's teen slashers (Scream) to the Japanese remakes (The Ring) to the current era which is the uber-gory films (Hostel). Final Destination plays with the teen slasher conventions a little bit (before they fell into the uber-gory camp with the sequels) but ultimately it still fits and despite some problematic script issues, it's still an effective horror film at times.

Alex Browning is a kid in a French class boarding Flight 180 en route to Paris. Just after takeoff, the plane's side rips off and it explodes. Of course it wasn't real as Alex just had a premonition and his erratic behavior and rantings of planes exploding is met with hostility from 5 of his classmates, his teacher and the staff and they're forced off the plane. Imagine everyone's shock when the plane actually indeed explodes in mid-air. But Death is mad as the all-powerful beings grand scheme of when people die was disrupted so he's hunting them one by one.

Main issue with the script is that the premise is intriguing but let's face it: it's still an oddball concept. Why would Death have flaws in its plan, even if we could see the signs? You'd think someone who has such a foresight and knowledge of fate wouldn't have things mess up easily. Alex almost becomes a gifted crime fighter with his know-how on how to beat death but it's a horror movie and it never makes sense. Plus he catches on incredibly quick to the idea that Death is playing hitman now that it seems kinda laughable he figured it out at all.

In a way, Final Destination reminds me of the first 2 Jurassic Parks while its sequels are like the third Jurassic installment: there's a sense of seriousness with this one and the Spielberg films whereas part 2 and 3 basically made it a thrill-ride and the gore almost becomes the reason to see it whereas this film was based on atmosphere and it does have a sense of foreboding. Now the very environment is threatening and anything can bring about someone's doom instead of a dude in a hockey mask.

Is it enjoyable? Sure. It's maybe not a great film through and through but as a horror film, it does its job well.

TALK ABT RESPECT FOR A MOVIE. I GIVE THIS FILM TWO AMZING THUMBS UP! NOT ONLY FOR ORIGINALITY BUT FOR THE AMAZING SHOCK FACTOR..I MEAN THE BUS SCENE IS BY FAR ONE THE BEST SCENES IN HORROR FILM HISTORY. AND THERE HAVE BEEN MANY, NOT SO MUCH IN LAST 10 YRS, BUT STILL...YEAH! OH MY GOODNESS, JUST THINKING OF THAT SCENE ALONE BRINGS A TEAR OF PURE JOY TO MY EYE....TALK ABT SHOCK VALUE, UR JUST NOT EXPECTING IT. THERE WAS A WAVE OF SH** AND F**** AT THE MOVIE PREMIER. I CAN NOT SAY ENOUGH ABT JUST THAT ONE SCENE...BUT THE WHOLE MOVIE IS WORTH A WATCH...JUST THE FACT THAT BASICALLY UR WHOLE LIFE IS PART OF SOME F***** UP DESIGN, CREATED BY DEATH, LEADING UP TO UR EVENTUAL DEMISE, IS PRETTY MESSED UP. BUT TO ALSO KNOW THAT THERE IS NO ESCAPING IT, THAT EVENTUALLY DEATH WILL CATCH UP WITH YOU, JUST AMAZING...FROM START TO FINISH UR ENGAGED IN THIS WHEN, WHERE, AND HOW ARE THESE KIDS GOING TO DIE..A MUST SEE, OVER AND OVER AGAIN...

4 out of 5 stars Final Destination.......2007-02-07

A thriller that really makes you think about the "design" of things. Best horror I have seen, because it is based on things that could really happen, not about some crazed killer that keeps coming back from the dead.

5 out of 5 stars Final Destination!!!.......2006-12-04

I love all of the Final Destination movies, and own the first two (i'm planning to buy the third one soon). They are just great intresting gory films. There is no visible killer, and the killer doesn't stab you with a knife or decapitate you with an axe. Instead, there are normal accidents that could happen to you any day (most of the time). This is the least gory in the series, but it's still good.

The movie is about a high school senior, Alex (Devon Sawa), who is going on a class trip to Paris. As the plane is about to take off, Alex has a horrifying premonition of the plane exploding. When he wakes up, he throws a fit, and gets himself and six others thrown off the plane. As the seven people watch the plane leave, it explodes, just like in Alex's premonition. The six people that Alex saved were the quite heroine Clear (Ali Larter), the mean jacka$$ Carter (Kerr Smith), the dorky guy Billy (Sean William Scott), Alex's best bud Todd (Chad Donella), Carter's girlfriend Terri (Amanda Detmer), and their teacher Ms. Valerie Lewton (Kristen Cloke). Alex and Clear soon find out, with the help of William Bludworth (Tony Todd), that they cheated death. Soon the seven survivors are killed one by one in the exact order they would of died in the plane crash.

This movie was very creepy. It made me fear doing every day things. The acting is good and their are some good deaths. There's a body count of five. This is defintly not near as gory as parts 2 and 3 though. Infact, I would only classify one death as "gory" and two others as "violent". The first and last deaths aren't violent at all. But it's ok, I liked this movie just as it is. If you like this movie, I highly recomend the two sequels. I love both of them.

Overall, I recomend this to all horror fans. It is one of the few good horror movies made these days.

<I>Final Destination 2</I> begins with a well-orchestrated multicar pileup on a freeway--a horrifying accident that turns out to be a premonition, as seen by a young woman (A.J. Cook) who saves herself and several other people by blocking a freeway on-ramp. Thus, as in the first <I>Final Destination</I>, a prescient vision disrupts the destined plans of death, and death goes to extreme lengths to correct matters. What makes <I>Final Destination 2</I> entertaining is that the characters can only survive by learning to recognize the signs of impending doom--and the signs are basically the cinematic foreshadowing that moviemakers use to invoke suspense. This, combined with some elaborately complicated and gruesome deaths, fosters a ghoulish humor that's more entertaining than the smirky self-referentiality of <I>Scream</I>. <I>Final Destination 2</I> doesn't aspire to be a great movie, but trash has its pleasures. Also featuring Ali Larter as the only survivor of the first movie. <I>--Bret Fetzer</I>

3 out of 5 stars It's a'right.......2007-04-24

After forseeing a massive car wreck teenager Kimberly prevents the accident by blocking the cars from merging with her truck, causing Death to take revenge.

I enjoyed bits of the film. Not a big fan of teen scream films, but I thought Kimberly and the police officer character were entertaining and sympathetic characters. Also the scene at the dental office.... Yikes!

Overall, I'd give it a 3. I guess I've outgrown watching films where seeing characters die in various different ways is the primary theme. This film needed more suspense and plot to really entertain me.

4 out of 5 stars Oh what fun we have with so little.......2007-04-17

The first Final Destination (I always found the title clunky but oh well) was a memorable entry in the teen horror genre since it wasn't self-referential and kind of dumb as the others. It relied on atmosphere and tension for their scenes whereas Scream or Urban Legend seemed to lack balls in their scenes. Of course the inevitable sequel comes out and this time it's packed with what the first one avoided slightly: gore. Strange as it may sound, this is gore done right. Yeah it's dumb, campy and little redeeming value but somehow you're just entertained by the whole thing.

Taking place a year after the Flight 180 disaster from the first one, we now instead follow Kimberly en route to a vacation when she has a premonition of a brutal multiple-car pileup on the freeway and prevents another group of cars from going down the freeway. The pileup happens and the remaining survivors, along with Kimberly find out what the first group had to deal with: Death is mad people lived and he's back, but he's gotten a little bit more creative, and way more gruesome.

In the film after this, Wendy (played by Mary Elizabeth Winstead) says "can you feel how vicious it was?" That pretty much sums up the approach this film and that one have with dispatching its characters. Unlike the first one which were more like freak accidents in a way, this almost seems like Death playing Mousetrap with that knocking over this which turns off that and makes this do that until splat, something happens. It's silly but for some reason, it's dementedly fun. You find it strange that you're getting such a kick out of seeing a guy "Cube"d to death (it's a movie, check it out). The opening sequence with the massive pileup is probably one of the most tension-filled and exciting car crash scenes in recent memory, not to mention it's quite gory. But it's presented in a way that you'll turn very paranoid whenever a big trucker is on the road with you.

Is the acting any better? Well, no. The leads are usually the more better but nowhere near great acting. AJ Cook though does an admirable job as Kimberly and proves a good successor to the vision seer role Devon Sawa had in the first one. The rest? Very cookie cutter. The stoner to the impatient bi*ch with things to do to the brash, insensitive man, it's obvious they're just meant to be fodder for Death's viciousness. Returning is Clear Rivers (played by Ali Larter) who helps out Kimberly and her situation. She doesn't really make the film any better but can't go wrong with an additional hottie.

For those looking for a simple fun horror movie rather than a serious horror movie pretending it's fun, can't go wrong with this entire series. Yeah, FD2 is filled with a bunch of nonsense but where else can you get a kick out of this stuff for a change?

3 out of 5 stars Not as good as it could have been.......2007-02-07

After the great success of the first Final Destination movie, the follow up was inevitable, and I suppose so was the third film in due course. Having seen them all I would say that Final Destination 2 is definitely the weakest.

The story sees a young girl called Kimberley have a premonition in which a motorway pile up kills dozens of people including her and her friends. When she wakes up she avoids the disaster along with a few other cars full of people that she stops from driving into the path of the accident. Of course the result is that once again, the spirit of Death stalks all the survivors to ensure no-one escapes.

The car crash that starts the film is pretty excitingly filmed although a road accident does not have quite the same white-knuckle factor as an aeroplane disaster. But what really drags the film down is the introduction of the Clear Rivers character who was a survivor of the first movie. Coming across as a broody, death obsessed know-it-all, Clear Rivers becomes the oracle to which all the cast turn for an explanation of what is happening and how they can fight it. Between the obligatory death scenes, the characters start to unravel the REALLY clumsy formula behind who's turn it is to die next and who might ultimately survive. It must have been an attempt to out-do the first film by introducing a new mythology behind Death's ultimate plan, but it doesn't help the film at all. The other annoying thing is that Kimberley keeps on having more visions before each death and tries to use this power to save their lives but can't really do it very efficiently, and this falls kind of flat too as a plot device because it really goes nowhere - Kimberley's having psychic powers is not investigated in the script and the manifestation of them is very throwaway.

What still works reasonably well are the surprise deaths although some of them are rather disappointing. The settings still work as toe-curlers, such as putting the potential victims in the dentists chair, in a hazardous dirty kitchen, or in an elevator, but eventually the spark of the film just sinks under the weight of it's confusing attempts to create a logical pattern for the deaths, and the ponderous revelations (usually delivered by the all-knowing and annoyingly smug Clear Rivers) sound too ridiculous. What also doesn't work is that the survivors handle each death as it comes along with such casualness - it's all me, me, me with no appearance of shock or regret about the loss of other people's lives. And being such a callous bunch does not endear them to the audience!

So I ended up feeling kind of let down. The crash is pretty good, but all the waffle is a turn off and it punctures the suspense. The use of a survivor from the first film might have worked if they had got Devon Sawa back as Alex, but this character has conveniently died (and implausibly too - wait until you hear how!) in between the two films. Mind you any sequel that brings back previous cast members is a sure sign of covering up for shortcomings in the film itself.

The third film in the series drops the link to any previous characters and does a far better job of entertaining by reverting to a much more straightforward format.

5 out of 5 stars Unique Movie!.......2007-02-04

In the first Final Destination a young man has a vision about an airplane crashing on takeoff. He and a number of his friends get off the jet and survive the crash. After surviving the crash they begin dying one by one.The character played by Ali Larter is the only survivor. She has
been institutionized and has escaped her appointment with death. In the second movies Kimberly(played by A.J. Cook blocks an on ramp going on to the freeway. She does this after experiencing a vision of a huge crash and pileup that could take many lives. The crash happens but everyone that Kimberly has blocked off is spared.Death is denied because of Kimberly.
The people who have been spared start dying.Kimberly goes to the mental institution and consult the character played by Ali Larter. All of the
surviving people of the crash meet. They start learning the signs to be aware of to avoid death.Still death continues to call upon the group.
Following the course of the movie this movie has an unbelievable ending.
This is one of the most unique and original movies that I have seen in quite some time. When you watch it don't leave. You may miss something.

This conflicted teen comedy can't decide what it wants to be. Is <I>Drive Me Crazy</I> a mainstream piffle about a popular girl who turns her grungy next-door neighbor into a dream date? Or is it a sneaky critique of high school conformity? Melissa Joan Hart (TV's <I>Sabrina, the Teenage Witch</I>) is angling to get asked to an upcoming dance by a basketball star, but when her plans go awry, she turns to a childhood friend (Adrian Grenier from <I>The Adventures of Sebastian Cole</I>) in the hopes of avoiding total humiliation. Grenier wants to win back his recently lost girlfriend, so he agrees to Hart's total makeover plan to induce jealousy. Naturally, the scam turns into something sparky. Teen flicks always make things too glossy and upscale, but <I>Drive Me Crazy</I> somehow fumbles its design and ends up looking false and square. The movie initially presents Grenier's transformation as unqualified good, with no sense that anything he was doing before--political protests, alternative music, rebellious pranks--had any value. But as the plot unfolds, a few barbed twists undercut the good cheer, sneakily commenting on school spirit and popularity. These themes wrestle uncomfortably with the movie's production values, resulting in a curiously provocative jumble. This confusion is probably why the movie was only a modest success in theaters, but it's actually what makes <I>Drive Me Crazy</I> worth looking at now. <I>--Bret Fetzer</I>

Description

Opposites attract with irresistible force in this fresh, funny, feel-good comedy about two mismatched teens who scheme to make their ex's jealous. Melissa Joan Hart (TV's "Sabrina the Teenage Witch") is "picture perfect" (CBS-TV, Fort Worth) as a peppy preppy who performs the ultimate makeover on her scruffy next-door neighbor (Adrian Grenier) - and discovers this former "frog" was a prince all along! With a screenplay by Rob Thomas (Dawson's Creek), a cast featuring today's hottest young stars, plus the smash hit songs "Crazy" (Britney Spears), and "I Want It That Way" (Backstreet Boys), "Drive Me Crazy" is "worth celebrating!" (Detroit Free Press)

3 out of 5 stars A lark of Movie without thought.......2007-02-14

This movie is lively and fun but not much too it. If you need a movie that requires just a little thought this the movie for you. Plot is normal, acting is good.

3 out of 5 stars Nice Teen Flick.......2006-08-18

Basically that's what this movie his. Their not bad actors, and even though the story could have been a little more explored, it's a nice sunday afternoon movie.

5 out of 5 stars A new teen classic.......2005-10-27

The story is your typical preppy girl cleans up outcast to get Jock interested in her, but falls in love, and I know your thinking it's cliche and been done a million times and you are right! But aren't all of these teen comedies mundane? Sure they are! Enjoy them for what they are. Britney Spears sung a great song off of this soundtrack "You Drive Me Crazy" is a hit track.

5 out of 5 stars Great acting.......2005-04-05

This movie is really well done. Each scene flows nicely into the next, the dialogs are perfect, and the caracters are adorable. Just watch it and enjoy.

If you're looking for a showcase for emerging Hollywood talent, <I>American Outlaws</I> is just the ticket. Its handsome young stars, playing Jesse and Frank James and gang, crack wise as if they were in a contemporary high school locker room. Combining authentic costumes and sets with stunt work befitting a Jackie Chan comedy, accompanied by an "Old West" soundtrack that's anything but old and only marginally Western, the film yields a few enjoyable highlights. Seasoned genre buffs, however, will cringe at the movie's clash of visual qualities, as well as the dialogue, which, while not as heinous as that in <I>Maverick</I>, is on par with <I>Young Guns</I> in terms of non-period flavor. It's not exactly a testament to the enduring potential of the authentic Western that was realized by Clint Eastwood's <I>Unforgiven</I>, made barely a decade before.

With all the light-hearted action and character interplay, it's hard to tell if director Les Mayfield (<I>Flubber</I>) is taking the material seriously, but this much is certain: the Jesse James here (played with effortless appeal by <I>Tigerland</I> newcomer Colin Farrell) and his brother Frank (Gabriel Macht) have almost no connection to historical fact. Nor do their fellow farm-raised gang members, the Younger brothers Cole (Scott Caan), Bob (Will McCormack), and Jim (Gregory Smith). (And Jesse's fiancée, played by Ali Larter, looks like she dropped in from a Gap commercial.) The gang's post-Civil War battle against a ruthless railroad baron (Harris Yulin) and his Pinkerton henchman (Timothy Dalton) seems arbitrary, irrational (since farmers typically welcomed railroads, not fought them), and riddled with clichés, turning the movie's bloodless shootouts into another opportunity for pretty-boy preening. <I>--Jeff Shannon</I>

5 out of 5 stars Loriann Ringgold.......2007-06-14

I think this is the best movie ever made about Frank and Jesse James. New life is given to the story. You are on the edge of your seat right from the get go. The music chosen for this movie is also perfect. Colin Ferrell is at his best in this movie. I also thought Scott Caan gave a wonderful performance as Coleman Younger. Gabriel Macht was fabulous as Frank James. You will not be disappointed in this movie. This is a must own DVD. It is really great! This movie can also be watched by the whole family.

4 out of 5 stars Not sure about accuracy, but fun to watch.......2007-01-02

American Outlaws is set in Missouri just after the Civil War. The railroad is constructing a track that will run west and go right through the town of Liberty, Missouri. The railroad company offers to buy each farmer's land otherwise they will just take it in the name of progress (imminent domain). Well, the railroad company picked the wrong town to go through and ran into Jesse James and company.

The cast is great and it includes Colin Farrell in one of his earliest roles) and also has two other recently known stars Ali Larter (Niki Sanders in Heroes) and Terry O'Quinn (John Locke in Lost).

I cannot attest to the movies accuracy of the story of Jesse James or the accuracy of the imitation of the post-Civil War era, but I can say that this movie is a blast to watch. It contains shootouts from beginning to end in all sorts of different settings (open fields, banks, main street, train). There are escapes/rescues in multiple places, plenty of humor mixed in and even a slight love story to round it off.

The movie itself is shot great and never gets hung up on any story line for too long in my opinion and it seemed to have just the right amount of running time so that you don't get tired of watching it.

If there is a flaw with the movie I would say that it is focusing on the gun blazing battles too much (although I personally didn't mind). I also highly suspect some historical inaccuracies although my knowledge of the James-Younger gang is limited so I cannot say for sure.

Overall, I am not much of a western movie lover but I loved this movie and recommend it for all. In my own situation my wife and I watched it with some friends of ours and every single one of us enjoyed the movie and rarely does that happen.

5 out of 5 stars An intelligent, well-made Western.......2006-12-13

American Outlaws is set in post-civil war Missouri in which the War Between the States is over and Jesse James, his brother Frank and their cousin Cole Younger migrate home to find out their home-town of Liberty is Union-occupied territory where, if identified, ex-Confederate soldiers (like them) are executed.

Worst part of all, a corrupt railroad baron is coercing farmers in Liberty to sell their land to his railroad company at ridiculously low prices. Those that refuse to sell have their houses condemned by the U.S. Interior Department and the occupants subsequently kicked out by Federal troops.

The James household is paid a visit by the plutocrat's representatives but Frank and Jesse give them their walking papers. Only later is the James house paid a visit by Alan Pinkerton's henchmen and the results are not pretty.

The James-Younger gang is then formed to take the fight to the railroad President and Liberty's Federat occupiers. When the James-Younger gang is formed, this movie only gets better.

Despite this film's Historical inaccuracies, I liked it because of the good acting, humor, well-written script and decent music score. Prior to seeing it I thought it was going to be a copy of Young Guns. But it certainly isn't that at all and it keeps you interested the entire time.

The movie is made for entertainment and it certainly delivers!

All-in-all "American Outlaws" is a very well-made Western that, as one reviewer points out, is a showcase for some promising actors who obviously had a great time making this film. Thats all the more reason to see it and add it to your DVD collection.

4 out of 5 stars Jesse James? no! Colin Farrell? YES!.......2006-08-30

I bought this DVD to see young Farrell in action, and I had a nice run for my money! This well made film is no attempt at showing the real story of Jesse James. It's more a showcase for Colin and a bunch of young promising actors who apparently enjoyed themselves a lot doing that movie. Colin Farrell is gorgeous and does not yet display those hideous tattoos that have mared his skin lately. Tim Dalton and Kathy Bates are great too as mature characters. Never a dull moment even if the plot has no surprises! Very enjoyable western movie not to take too seriously. The DVD transfer is spectacular on a wide screen.

1 out of 5 stars "how to take an exciteing story about the west and ruin it ".......2006-05-24

that should be the name of this fiction told as fact. the history in the movie couldn't be more wrong and why do you need to jazz up a story that has enough real action,so that it plays like a watered down third grade play. the leads and the cast try but this is one that never had a chance.
