Anyone who's watched just about any teenage film knows that the greatest evil in this world isn't chemical warfare, ethnic cleansing, or even the nuclear bomb. The worst crime known to man? Why, virginity, of course. As we've learned from countless films--from <I>Summer of '42</I> to <I>Risky Business</I>--virginity is a criminal burden that one must shed oneself of as quickly as possible. And while many of these films have given the topic a bad name, <I>American Pie</I> quietly sweeps in and gives sex some of its dignity back. Dignity, you may say? How can a film that highlights intercourse with fruit pies, premature ejaculation broadcasted across the Internet, and the gratuitous "gross-out" shots restore the dignity of a genre that's been encumbered with such heavyweights as <I>Porky's</I> and <I>Losin' It</I>? The plot may be typical, with four high school friends swearing to "score" by prom, yet the film rises above the muck with its superior cast, successful and sweet humor, and some actually rather retro values about the meaning and importance of sex. Jason Biggs, Chris Klein, Thomas Ian Nicholas, and Eddie Kaye Thomas make up the odd quartet of pals determined to woo, lie, and beg their way to manhood. The young women they pursue are wary girlfriend Vicky (Tara Reid), choir girl Heather (Mena Suvari), band geek Michelle (Alyson Hannigan), and just about any other female who is willing and able. Natasha Lyonne as Jessica, playing a similar role as in <I>Slums of Beverly Hills</I>, is the general adviser to the crowd (when Vicky tells her "I want it to be the right time, the right place," Jessica responds, "It's not a space shuttle launch, it's <I>sex</I>"). The comedic timing hits the mark--especially in the deliberately awkward scenes between Jim (Biggs) and his father (Eugene Levy). And, of course, lessons are learned in this genuinely funny film, which will probably please the adult crowd even more than it will the teenage one. <I>--Jenny Brown</I>
Customer Reviews:
American Pie.......2007-03-17
Well I had all the other movies, but this makes my collection complete. This is the kind of movie you can watch over and over again and it never gets boring.
Just so over-rated.......2007-02-23
This may be one of the most over-rated movies of the last 20 years. It is typical mindless skirt chasing by high school boys. How many times will this premise be used before people stop watching it?? Please god stop.
Thank you
so stupid it is funny.......2006-10-17
There are good movies and then there are movies like these that are just worth the price for the laugh factor. Yeah it does have a plot a pretty stupid one, but it is so funny. The second one is really funny too. are you trying not to watch things with sex in them or not your kids well do not watch this. this is full of sex references and inuendo. It is really funny and worth the laugh if you are like me and just are not offended.
A pleasant teenage romp!.......2006-08-08
American Pie is a favorite for those of you who like hillarious teenage movies.Jason Biggs plays Jim,an average American teen opening new worlds in his sex life. From encounters with pies to embarrasing moments with other teenage girls,American Pie is a definite favorite.Sean William Scott is wonderfull as Scott Stifler. You'll love it!
Surprisingly touching for its genre.......2006-07-22
For a teen comedy flick with potty humour and "showcase" nudity, American Pie does really well with some coming of age themes. Four boys are on a quest to lose their virginity by prom night, and go to various lengths to impress the girls they meet. Life lessons are learned and the boys grow up in ways other than sexually. The four boys led by Jason Biggs are all likeable, and Seann William Scott had a breakout role as the party-loving fifth wheel to the group. Eugene Levy, one of great comedic alumnis from the 80s, has hilarious moments as Jim's dad. And for who can forget the Shannon Elizabeth scene and the bit with the movie's namesake?
Not a lot on the dvd, but there's a fun commentary with the staff and actors, though it's a bit crowded at times. American Pie's not a groundbreaking film, but it's a solid one for its genre, and may be one of the few really worth owning.

Between <I>Snakes On A Plane</I> and <I>Farce of the Penguins</I>, one really wonders what Samuel Jackson has been smoking. This Jackson-narrated mockmentary of <I>March of the Penguins</I>, written and directed by Bob Saget (<I>America's Funniest Home Videos</I>), highlights the penguins' lascivious side, as the male's march inland to find mating partners. Overdubbed with human voices, <I>Farce</I> stars three penguins, Carl (Bob Saget), a neurotic, insecure bird whose search for true love has so far been in vain, Jimmy (Lewis Black), a mobster-like father figure who encourages Carl to keep up hope, and Marcus (Tracy Morgan), a smooth, African American penguin with a self-professed huge penis. Miles away, as the men journey inward, fighting off seals and engaging in therapy sessions with snowy owls along the way, Vicky (Mo'nique) tells Melissa (Christina Applegate) that someday her Prince Charming will come, which, predictably, he does. Watching penguins discussing the meaning of life, questioning their annual masochistic hike through tundra, or wondering if they have eating disorders is funny for about ten minutes. Samuel Jackson, the ultimate omniscient narrator, furthering the story between scenes is also odd and laughable. But <I>Farce of The Penguins</I> relies on its lewd humor for laughs, and though it is disarming to see waddling birds cuss, <I>Farce's</I> one-liner gets old. Yes, penguins have sex. <I>Farce of the Penguins</I> is a fun idea perhaps taken too far. Nonetheless, there is always something pleasing about anthropomorphizing animals, especially for lovers of crude sex jokes. <I>--Trinie Dalton</I>
Description
It's mating season... <P>Meet Carl (Bob Saget) and Jimmy (Lewis Black), two cold penguins on a desperate mission to get themselves some hot booty. After years of empty one-night stands, Carl wants more than a piece of penguin tail. He wants the love of the beautiful Melissa (Christina Applegate). Now it's up to Jimmy to help his neurotic friend win her heart and find his dream girl. The only thing that stands in their way is...a seventy-mile trek across Antarctica. It's a road trip like no other, as these two best bros make their way to a penguin island paradise. From director and comedian Bob Saget, comes a raunchy, yet heart-warming comedy like no other. <P>Get ready for a stiff and dirty ride! May the FARCE be with you...
Customer Reviews:
LOL.......2007-06-22
True this movie drug on for a while, but i thought the crude humor was funny. maybe you just have to be 16 and in a really good mood. I dunno.
Don't be fooled by the names..........2007-06-21
I really don't understand why a few of the decent comedians in this piece of $#!% movie decided to screw their reputations over. I have no respect for the people who made this; it's completely disgusting, crude, childish, etc. I was hoping for something...else, but I could not even watch the whole thing it was just terrible, I could almost feel the brain cells dissolving in my head. Lewis Black, you should be ashamed for taking part in this (strike one, but we still love you).
UGH! What a horrible movie!!.......2007-06-13
The trailer for this movie is the best part...when put together with the rest of the movie, it is dull and boring. The funniest part was the penguin slipping on the ice and falling. Don't waste your money on this one!
Wasn't what I expected..........2007-05-13
I thought this movie was gonna be super hilarious. It wasn't. If your into lots of perverse sexually immature jokes then you'll probably like it. But other than that the movie really sucked... and now I don't know what to do with it.
What Could Have Been.......2007-05-13
What a shame that the possibilities of this film never materialized. Maybe I shouldn't have watched "March of the Penguins" first. Obviously, that film was very enlightning, though not overly entertaining. So I sat down to watch "Farce of the Penguins" and was bored with it. All I could think about was "What Could Have Been", if they had taken a little longer to think things out; or taken a few more shots at the movie itself - something - anything to make it funny. But no, there was no laughter in our house that night - only disappointment over "What Could Have Been".

Sophomoric is too weak a word by at least half to describe the utter silliness Date Movie revels in at every turn. But that's exactly the point of this effort in lowbrow slapstick that proudly proclaims it was created by two of the six writers of the Scary Movie franchise. Adhering to the same spoof formula of those movie romps, Date Movie lampoons countless other current movie characters and plot themes, plus a few that might be a little old for the core audience of youngsters to remember. Date Movie isn't quite as successful in keeping the gags at the same pace they came in the Scary Movies, but it will certainly satisfy those with a taste for tasteless humor. The wisp of a story involves fat girl Julia Jones, played by Alyson Hannigan, who quickly becomes as thin and pretty as she was in the American Pie movies and on TV's Buffy the Vampire Slayer. You'll lose count how many movie references writer/directors Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer throw in her path as she searches for true love in a world gone mad. Hitch, My Big Fat Greek Wedding, Meet the Fockers, King Kong, Lord of the Rings, When Harry Met Sally, Pretty Woman, Bridget Jones' Diary, and Kill Bill, are just a few of the movies that get unkindly homage. There's also plenty of flatulence, mild sexual ribaldry, and the kind of bad taste humor that will utterly delight the pubescent and teenage audience this movie was made for. --Ted Fry

Customer Reviews:
Hillarious.......2007-05-29
You guys really need to get a sense of humor here. Yes, it is childish, yes it is adolescent and yes it is very stupid but there are parts that are damn funny. I really liked this movie and you have to watch it like you are viewing the absurd which you are. This movie is for people that like parodies of other movies taking it to the extreme. I recommend this movie to anyone that has a sense of humor for the absurd. So, put a smile on, sit back and laugh. It won't crack your face.
I want the hour and a half of my life back........2007-05-03
With most movies, I'm pretty reasonable. I try to give them a chance. One of my frieds wanted to see it, so my girlfriend and I went with him. After watching this movie, I felt I could have wiped my A#S with my $8.75 instead of sitting through this abortion of a movie.
I know that spoof movies are supposed to be stupid and funny, but this movie was heavy in stupid, and very light in funny. I've never heard a theater so quiet in a comedy. I think I only heard chuckles during three parts in the movie. The writers just tried too hard to be funny. The movie might have been better if they had concentrated on a few movies and used acting to make it funny, instead of watching a fake cat taking a crap on a toilet. And even that could have been funny if they hadn't made the segment a couple of minutes long.
I compare this movie with what a guy from our high school did for a talent show. He thought it would be funny to put on a penguin suit and waddled around to classical music. Maybe funny in premise, but turned out to be the most akward and stupid three minutes I've watched.
Now take that three minutes of stupidity, multiply it by 30, and you have "Date Movie." The only saving grace of this movie is that it's short.
A very, very bad movie.......2007-04-11
I recently witnessed this car crash of a movie. I usually like parodys but this movie was boring and unfunny.
The ads proudly state "From 2 of the 6 writers of Scary Movie". Need another reason not to see it?.......2007-04-11
The writers of this movie thought that referencing dozens of different movies would make a comedy. No. There has to be jokes, funny jokes. There needs to be something humorously said about the original films to make it a satire. I have seen many of the films this movie "spoofs" including Napoleon Dynamite, When Harry Met Sally, Mr. and Mrs. Smith, Hitch, My Big Fat Greek Wedding, The Wedding Planner, Jerry Maguire, Sleepless in Seattle, and How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days and ALL of them are funnier than Date Movie. It really is pointless to spoof comedies. The writers don't even reference date movies all the time. They reference King Kong, Lord of the Rings, Star Wars, and it doesn't work. Even the so-so Scary Movie films have something to say about the films they are spoofing. Not only was it terribly unfunny, it was sick. I like Monty Python and American Pie but when a cat starts humping a decayed human torso I draw the line.
The writers of this film also made Epic Movie. I saw Date Movie on DVD. I will not see Epic Movie ever or any other film made by Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer. It is a sad time in our world and an extremely small part of that sadness is the fact that movies like these are made and make millions at the box office.
.... ehh ..........2007-03-22
This movie was highly dissapointing.
I did not have high expectations going into it (from what friends have told me) but I really wanted to watch it. It was horrid! There was way too many spoofs. Yes some were funny (the only real memorable one was the spoof when she stood over the subway train air vent dancing to cool off).
All in all this movie was shockingly sad. They could have had a great movie - but alas they didn't.
Do your self a favor and do not buy or rent this movie.
If it was possible to give something 0 stars i would, but * is the lowest it goes. Date Movie gets that *.

Well, it's a good idea. <I>Dead Man on Campus</I> had the potential to be a classic dark comedy: Two students at a prestigious university are flunking out; however, due to a provision in the school's charter, if they had a roommate who committed suicide, they'd both get straight A's as a form of reparation for grief and trauma. So, to stay in school, they seek out the most depressed student on campus and transfer him into their three-person dorm room. Unfortunately, rather than satirizing the real issues--academic narrow-mindedness, parental pressure, the obsessiveness of late adolescence--the movie is a compilation of frat-boy clichés and jokes that want to be in bad taste but are actually quite tame. The leads (Tom Everett Scott and Mark-Paul Gosselaar) are pleasant and the soundtrack (produced by the Dust Brothers) has some very hip selections, but after a snappy opening-credit sequence, the movie stumbles along, aimless and sluggish. Alyson Hannigan (<I>American Pie</I>, Willow on TV's <I>Buffy the Vampire Slayer</I>) has a small role and is her charming geeky self. <I>--Bret Fetzer</I>

Funny Film !.......2007-06-03
The first time I seen this film I could not stop laughing it's a great film with great characters and a great story line. It is the character of Cliff which makes this film so good really this film is totally underrated and should have been much more popular than it was however it is good to own on DVD.

"You guys ever been in a high speed chase before? It's intense!".......2006-08-14
"Dead Man On Campus" is a film about two guys who enroll at Daleman College, and become roommates. Josh enrolls via a scholarship, and is studying to become a doctor, and Cooper, well, he's just there to avoid having to clean toilets for a living at his father's business, and of course, to goof off and party. Josh eventually decides to party with Cooper, and as a result, starts to fail every class he's in. He winds up failing his mid-terms, and he finds out that he needs to maintain a B+ average if he wants to keep his scholarship.
One night, while the boys are at a local bar, they find out that if your roomate commits suicide, you get straight As for your grief, so they decide to move a suicidal roommate into their dorm!
In my opinion, the best roommate they find is a no holds barred psychotic named Cliff O'Malley (played by the underrated Lochlyn Munro). Cliff is my favorite character in this film! He's so wacky, and he completely lacks sanity or a conscience! Most of his dialogue and facial expressions in this film is priceless! I'd list a few quotes, but I'm sure Amazon will bleep 'em out!
As for their other roomates:
Buckley: He's a computer nerd who's paranoid, suicidal, and thinks Bill Gates is after his brain!
Matt Noonan: He's the "depressed" goth rock star who acts happy and likes to sing show tunes when no one's around!
In the end: This is one of the most underrated teen stoner flicks ever! For off the wall teen comedies, this is as good as it gets, right up there with "Wayne's World" and "A Night At The Roxbury". This movie originally bombed at the box office when released in August of 1998, and seems to be forgotten nowadays, but trust me, it's funny, and the character Cliff totally makes it worth the admission! It's bound to become a cult classic sooner or later.
3 1/2 stars out of 5.
As for the DVD: It contains a non-anamorphic 1.85:1 widescreen transfer, as well as English Dolby Digital 5.1 and Dolby Surround 2.0 soundtracks, as well as a French Dolby Surround 2.0 soundtrack. The only bonus feature is a theatrical trailer for the film.
Awesome!.......2006-07-28

To the horror of prudes everywhere, <I>American Pie 2</I> is even funnier than its popular predecessor, pushing the R rating with such unabashed ribaldry that you'll either be appalled or surprised by its defiant celebration of the young-adult male libido. Females will be equally shocked or delighted, because like <I>American Pie</I> this appealing, character-based comedy puts the women in control while offering a front-row view of horny guys in all their dubious glory. Which is to say, <I>American Pie</I> is mostly about sex--or, to be more specific, breasts, genitalia, "potential" lesbianism, blue silicone sex toys, crude methods of seduction, "the rule of three" (just watch the movie), a shower of "champagne," phone sex, tantric sex, and, oh yeah... superglue.
In the case of college freshman Jim (Jason Biggs), performance anxiety plagues his upcoming reunion with sexy Czech exchange student Nadia (Shannon Elizabeth), but his buddies from <I>American Pie</I> have a solution: rent a Lake Michigan beach house for the summer, throw wild parties to lure the local "hotties," and score big-time. <I>Beach Party</I> this ain't: blessed with a complete cast reunion from <I>AP1</I> (including Eugene Levy as Jim's dad), this sequel is anything but innocent, and with the exception of drugs (which are conspicuously absent), pretty much anything goes. The gags are almost nonstop, and director J.B. Rogers (recovering from his debut debacle <I>Say It Isn't So</I>) handles them with laudable precision, allowing his young cast (particularly Biggs, who epitomizes comedic good sportsmanship) to run with lines that most people wouldn't dare utter aloud. The result is a liberating and eminently good-natured comedy that needn't apologize for its one-track mind. <I>--Jeff Shannon</I>
Customer Reviews:
Better than the first!.......2007-02-21
American Pie 2 was definately funnier than the first. Good soundtrack and plotline too. A highly entertaining, laugh-out loud teen comedy.
OMG...LMBO.......2006-11-16
Any time you need a good "That SO disgusting(!)" laugh, break out this movie. This movie will keep you laughing.
So Stupid it is so funny.......2006-10-17
Sometimes I just need a really stupid movie for the laugh factor. This movie is valuble for that. It does have a plot. It is not one the religious sect would like because it is packed full of sex and sex references. So this is not for you. If you just want a laugh this is good. The first one is good too. I am not a teen perhaps if I was one I would think this is a classic of my time, but no I am from the breakfast club generation. this was just a good laugh.
As if High School wasn't enough!.......2006-08-12
Following american Pie,American Pie 2 finds Jim and his friends going to a Lake house for the summer for partying, women, and alcohol. But when Jim finds that Nadia is coming down to visit,he panics and seeks help from the one person he knows can tell him if he sucked or not:the band geek who went to the prom with him.Stifler also returns, loud and obnoxious as ever as he accuses the two women living in the house they are painting to be lesbians,so they sneak in and....BUSTED!As if the Nadia broadcast wasn't enough, another broadcast is made, this time on a CB radio,in one of the most ridiculous contests I've ever seen.American Pie 2 is even more hillarious than the first, including incidents with super glue and trumpets. You'll enjoy this film.
Good sequel.......2006-08-05
American Pie 2's story line was good. The story picks up after the first year of college. Like many have encountered after the first summer after college many new things occur and many things that do not change. The beach house is the scene for wild scenes and good laughs. What AM2 does do that many other sequels do as well is the repetitive bug. The shock/funny appeal is still there in some scenes, but it isn't like the original. Still, though the movie is entertaining enough and with several gut wrenching scenes.

Description
Coach Nash (Gary Cole) is one of the most popular teachers at Tate High School. When he pays special attention to Amy (Nicholle = Tom), a fourteen year-old freshman, she is flattered - until he crosses the line by seducing her. Soon the rumor mill is in full swing and Amy is too ashamed to confide in anyone. The principal dismisses the suspicions because of the coach's importance to the football team. His behavior toward Amy becomes increasingly erratic and he even threatens suicide. Finally, Amy breaks down and confesses the truth to her mother (Mary Kay Place). Coach Nash pleads guilty and receives a jail sentence for his actions. But, Amy's parents feel the school system should be held responsible for failure to protect their daughter from this predator. With the help of an attorney who shares the same convictions, they are determined to set a precedent to protect other children in the future. Indecent Seduction is a captivating tale inspired by true events, featuring outstanding performances from Gary Cole, Mary Kay Place, Nicholle Tom, Mac Davis and Alyson Hannigan.

We are BOTH in this movie.......2007-03-26
My husband and I loved this movie. It was filmed in our highschool back when we attended. I am one of the brunette cheerleaders and he is the redhead with the letterman jacket who glares at her car toward the end. Fun Fun. Anyone who attended the real "Tate" highschool will enjoy this film.
Good movie.......2007-03-19
I saw this movie on tv and thought it was really good. I think the acting was great and why is someone giving this movie 1 star justt because they didn't receive their items? Disregard the previous users 1 star and give the movie a chance, especially if you like the Lifetime channel movies (which remind me of extended after school specials). Good one!

The producers of the <I>American Pie</I> movies pushed their luck with a third slice of their lucrative raunchy comedy franchise, and <I>American Wedding</I> cooked up surprisingly well. It's the sourest serving of <I>Pie</I>, with half of the original cast missing, and there's something undeniably desperate about comedic highlights (involving dog poop, a lusty old lady, two strippers to offset the absence of Shannon Elizabeth, and the ill-advised use of a trimming razor) that arise more from obligation than inspiration, on the assumption that <I>another</I> penile mishap is guaranteed to please. And yet, that's just what this movie does for devoted <I>Pie</I>-munchers: It gives 'em what they want, especially when the notorious Stifler (Seann William Scott) nearly ruins the frantic nuptials of Jim (Jason Biggs) and his band-camping sweetheart Michelle (Alyson Hannigan). Eugene Levy and Eddie Kaye Thomas also return for some reliable comic relief, but the one who's laughing most is three-time <I>Pie</I> writer Adam Herz--laughing loudly and often, all the way to the bank. <I>--Jeff Shannon</I>

American Pie unrated YAY.......2007-05-10
The unrated version of this was much better then the one i saw in the movie theater.
bad taste.......2007-05-02
I thought this was a sexist movie. I wish they would make a movie of teenage girls looking at naked guys for a change!!!!iT'S ALWAYS THE OTHER WAY AROUND BECAUSE MEN MAKE THESE MOVIES AND THAT'S WHAT THEY WANT TO SEE!
Trilogy Still Going Strong.......2007-02-15
I enjoyed watching this movie. Lots of laughs and sophomoric fun that you've come to expect from watching all the movies in the American Pie series! Yes, this movie is a bit predictable, but nonetheless entertaining to watch.
It is nice to see Jim and Michelle get married in this movie and all the funny things that happen and go wrong along the way in planning for the wedding!
Still laughing .......2006-11-16
This is almost as funny as American Pie and American Pie 2, but the humor is getting more than a little predictable. However, I am still laughing so 4 stars.
Still going strong!.......2006-08-12
American Wedding is so far the funniest installment to the trilogy. This one finds Jim and Michelle getting married, opening with what I've found to be the naughtiest scene I've ever seen take place in a resturant.Stifler brings more laughs to the screen as Stifler, who thinks the first thing that comes to his mind when he thinks of weddings:Bachelor party! The biggest scene, basically,is the bechelor party scene, where a gay guy Jim and his pals met in a gay bar brings a couple of foreign strippers to Jim's house and they party for a while, until it's busted up by the early return of Jim and Michelle's parents.Laughs and gut-busting humor ensue as the pals get caught up in what might be the best film in the trilogy.

The title pretty much says it all, folks: A beauteous E.T. cozies up to an eccentric scientist (a disarmingly straight Dan Ackroyd) in an attempt to save her dying planet and falls in love in the process. Much wackiness ensues. Art it ain't, but this likably lightweight film does deliver the laughs, with assured leading performances (for once, Kim Basinger's formica loveliness is utilized as an effective comedic asset), a surprisingly bawdy sense of humor, and a riotous supporting turn by a then dewy-fresh Jon Lovitz. Good, undemanding fun. <I>--Andrew Wright</I>
Customer Reviews:
Fun for Everyone.......2006-11-10
This movie is pure fun. My whole family loved it. It's corny and the acting leaves you feeling like it's amatuer hour, but its fun to watch. We made popcorn and laughed our way through the whole thing. Watch it and enjoy!
Cute movie with great Dan Aykroyd lines and Jon Brant's band Siren on Soundtrack!.......2006-05-09
Siren, which later had to change their
name to Red Siren (after Jon had left)
had it's 'retracted' second single
"One good lover" from it's debut LP
on this hip movie's soundtrack. Kim
Bassinger is atractive in parring
with Aykroyd, in his best movie since
'The Great Outdoors' with late Canuck-
mate John Candy.
SNEEZES, SEX AND HAM AND CHEESE ON RYE.......2005-12-21
This is a deliriously silly little movie, but it's fun to watch. Kim Basinger utilizes her breathtaking beauty to its fullest as she discovers the joys of becoming human, from sneezing to sex to ham and cheese on rye with mayo. Basinger's comic timing carries the movie, and even the usually disposable Dan Aykroyd's performance is comic and he and Basinger have a good chemistry. There are some delightful sequences, e.g., when Kim has to discover how to kiss, her alien ally shows her films of several different types of kisses, and when she has to have sex, she does a sensual striptease replete with windblown hair and all. Jon Lovitz is around for comic relief as Aykroyd's bachelor brother, and it's all mindless nonsense; it's also quite entertaining. Basinger is a blast.
Barberella Psychadela It's Not.......2005-10-25
The opening strip scene is reminiscent of Barbarella - too bad those aren't Basinger's legs though. Nerdy scientist falls for galactic beauty as presented by Kim Basinger. I have never understood Ackroyd's characters. And keeping in form, he is once again as unfunny as mud. Basinger tries so hard - too hard - to rescue this film, but that's no small task considering the ineptness of this way silly film. OK so she munches on batteries, and thinks she has to cook everything in the kitchen at mealtime. She seems a genuine Betty Crocker given that her favorite foods are nuts and bolts. Jon Lovitch also tries to prop up Ackroyd and this weak script. However, his contribution seems way overstated to me. He doesn't have much to do. Funny are the scenes inwhere the teenage girl eventually decides that her step-mother is not like other people. Basinger's character has a magic purse with an annoying creepy critter in it who tells her what to do. Think, Jar-Jar Blinks. I suppose it's OK as a backdrop for housecleaning. But that's it. Flat and mechanical.
See Dan The Geek Scientist Marry In Haste!!!See Dan Repent In Leisure!!!.......2005-10-16
This is a very tedious and unfunny riff on the "fish out of water" films that were so popular in the 1980's. It is about this Major League Geek Astronomer Scientist played by Dan Aykroyd who falls in love with an Alien woman played by Kim Basinger. After watching this movie one can only come to the conclusion that good Comedic Acting is an Alien Concept to Ms. Basinger. This movie is redeemed soley by the performance of Jon Lovitch who has excellent taste in cars and is the only funny guy in this entire movie. I give this movie 5 stars because thankfully Ms. Basinger has disappeared from our screens in recent years and her real life antics are a lot funnier than this movie.

Behind the generic title of <I>Boys & Girls</I> lies a surprising enjoyable and nuanced romantic comedy. Teen heartthrob Freddie Prinze Jr. plays Ryan, a dorky, emotionally sincere young guy who keeps crossing paths with Jennifer, played by Claire Forlani, an independent and willfully unattached young woman. Their chance meetings coincide with relationship traumas and they start to confide in each other, which leads to a more genuine friendship and, in the midst of their college years, a romance. It's a bit of a stock plot line to have their friendship threatened by sexual attraction, but <I>Boys & Girls</I> has just enough genuine feeling to make it compelling. Meanwhile, Jason Biggs (from <I>American Pie</I>) plays Ryan's roommate, a compulsive liar and would-be scam artist, who carries off some pretty funny scenes. Forlani and Prinze work together quite well. Their performances hearken back to the classic screwball comedies of the 1930s, with the repressed male simultaneously attracted and horrified by a footloose dame. Some kooky moments are a little strained, but at other times the movie has a refreshing realism about human emotions. Overall, a much more engaging and entertaining flick than its ad campaign suggests. Also featuring Alyson Hannigan from the TV show <I>Buffy the Vampire Slayer</I> and Heather Donahue from <I>The Blair Witch Project</I>. <I>--Bret Fetzer</I>

I was blown away by Claire Forliani in "Meet Joe Black" and have been waiting for another breakthrough movie for her. Other than a good role in "Bobby Jones, Stroke of Genius" with Jim Caviezel, I'm still looking! I found this one among the older DVDs on the rental store shelves. As Jennifer, Forliani plays a nervous young lady afraid of romantic commitment. She's got such expressive eyes and that glowing smile that seems to radiate kindness on screen. Opposite Freddie Prinze Jr. who had just worked with director Robert Iscove on "She's All That," she does a good job. Prinze plays Ryan, the boy next door looking for a real relationship. While he doesn't read emotionally deep, he lights up the screen with a fun-loving touch. The film bogs down in that it goes through high school and several years of college trying to get these two together. At some point long before they get together, it becomes tedious. The actors do well; so it seems to be a script or directorial failure. Jason Biggs from "American Pie," "There's Something About Mary," & "American Wedding" plays Hunter/Steve, Ryan's roommate who eventually serves as the catalyst for their eventual rendezvous. Heather Donahue from "The Blair Witch Project" plays Ryan's girlfriend Heather. Alyson Hannigan from TV's "Buffy, the Vampire Slayer" & "American Pie" plays Ryan's first girlfriend. Amada Detmer who was in "Kiss the Bride," "Final Destination" & "The Magestic" plays Jennifer's roommate who wants to get a bit too close to Jennifer. While this is a sweet romantic story with a happy ending, it seems to take just a bit too long to fire. While this film may not be a life-altering experience, it works fairly well most of the time. Enjoy!
Worst movie ever.......2005-09-09
Even worse than Wing Commander, yet another craptastic movie starring Freddy Prince Junior. Why does it suck? Well first it stars FPJ, so you know it's gona suck already. Next it just sucks. That's it. The story is boring. Hell I don't even remember what it's about. I saw this movie years ago, and all I remember was that I hated it.
You know a movie sucks when the only thing you remember about it was that you despised it. Avoid at all costs.
When Harry Met Sally for teens.......2004-11-09
Misery loves company. I became addicted to this quirky, somewhat surreal romantic comedy when a long term relationship of mine ended. To watch Freddie Prinze Jr. and Claire Forlani as long-time friends navigate through the minefield of failed relationships and teen angst only to eventually consider getting together themselves seemed like the perfect anecdotal medecine to relieve what I was going through at that time. Yes, it's ultimately a funny and touching drama that taps into that need for comfortable feel good stories to put the sparkle back into life. Really, it bears more than a striking resemblance to WHEN HARRY MET SALLY in both structure and themes. (Is it a surprise they are both favorites of mine).
Ultimately my favorite part of the movie is the first half. The movie starts with a young Ryan and Jennifer meeting for the first time on a plane from New York to Los Angeles. Their encounter remains so memorable that five years later Ryan recognizes Jennifer during a football game. As luck would have it the two also eventually end up both in college at Berkeley and bump into each other in a series of When-Harry-Met-Sally-esque encounters over a number of years.
Prinze definitely plays against type here, he doesn't play a hotshot high school football star but instead Ryan is a difficult, unsure teen attempting to make his way through an engineering degree and Forlani is the confident, assured college girl who has no trouble getting dates, but is unable to maintain any long-term commitment.
Providing possibly his funniest performance is Jason Biggs (of American Pie fame) who plays Ryans college roommate Hunter (well that's not his real name but he feels it sounds better when picking up girls). From his introduction - getting stuck in a storage case to his eventual success in the girl department - his all too rare screen moments provide some great humor and lend a certain charm to the movie giving it an edge over the adult movie that so clearly inspired it.
I've seen this movie numerous times, its one of my guilty pleasures that speaks to me on so many levels.
Incidently if you have seen this movie on television the chances are that you have not seen it all. I have seen "Boys and Girls" shredded to bits on network tv.
Boys and Girls.......2004-10-05
this is the gold of any freddie prinze, jr. collection...its totally a need to buy item...
Freddie Prinze, Jr........2004-04-10
I well remember, and well liked, FP Jr.'s father, and his TV series "Chico and the Man." A while back, I saw FP, Jr. being interviewed on a talk show, and I thought he came across as so down-to-earth, charming, and cute as can be. But I was totally unfamiliar with his work as an actor.
I finally got around to renting this movie, and thought it was very enjoyable. Similar to "When Harry Met Sally....," but of course no where nearly as great as that classic, superlative film. But still quite pleasant. Leonard Maltin, with whom I usually agree, rated this movie BOMB -- he is absolutely, unequivocally WRONG.
However, after renting ths movie, I did rent FP, Jr.'s "She's All That," and "Head Over Heels." Maltin liked those movies better than "Boys and Girls," but again, he is WRONG -- those two were the bombs, unfortunately. In fact, despite FP, Jr.'s enjoyable screen presence, they were virtually unwatchable.
"Boys and Girls" is a lovely movie (a bit of a weak performance by Forlani was a bit of a drawback, but the rest of the cast was very good, and so was the writing, and the direction).
I feel certain you will enjoy the lovely "Boys and Girls."
