HBO caused a stir when it aired <I>If These Walls Could Talk</I>, a portrait of three women from three generations (all who occupied the same house at various times) who had unwanted pregnancies. HBO utilizes the same gimmick in the sequel, this time telling the story of women who love women.

The three stories of <I>If These Walls Could Talk 2</I> are uneven. Far and away the most powerful and moving story is the first, taking place in 1961, starring Vanessa Redgrave as a woman "widowed" when her partner of 50 years suddenly dies. Redgrave is phenomenal, and her piece alone makes this sequel worth watching. The 1972 portion stars Michelle Williams, who finds dealing with the sexual politics of the gay community increasingly more complex when she falls in love with a boyish woman (played by Chloë Sevigny). The most modern piece, taking place in 2000, portrays a contemporary lesbian couple (Sharon Stone and Ellen DeGeneres) determined to have a baby. The light nature of the story detracts from the more serious issues of the earlier segments. Despite the mixed fare, HBO once again proves itself on the cutting edge of moviemaking, with this rather daring film that will both provoke and entertain. <I>--Jenny Brown</I>

5 out of 5 stars Excellent.......2007-03-16

I love this film- it hits on numerous isssues without being too preachy. At different points, the film is funny, cute, serious, hot, and numerous other things. It's a classic.

5 out of 5 stars HBO Rocks Part 2.......2007-01-14

This was an HBO original movie broadcast in 2000. This movie follows three lesbian stories in three different time periods. Vanessa Redgrave stars as a lesbian widow in 1961. Chloe Sevigny and Michelle Williams star as feminists in 1971. Sharon Stone and Ellen DeGeneres star as a modern day lesbian couple trying to have a baby. I found the story of Vanessa Redgrave to be the most touching. It speaks to the need for legal rights for same sex couples and a need for understanding.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent.......2006-11-23

A beautiful, touching movie. Well directed and acted. The first story with Vanessa Redgrave is very touching. All three stories have a completely different view of lesbians and are very good. The third story with Ellen & Sharon is very humorous. With stars like Vanessa, Ellen & Sharon, how can this be anything but a very worthwhile film and well acted.

5 out of 5 stars IF THESE WALLS COULD TALK 2.......2006-11-06

I LOVE THIS MOVIE A BIT MORE THAN #1 MOVIE "IF THESE WALLS COULD TALK", MAYBE CAUSE MORE UP TO DATE, AND MORE I COULD RELATE TO BEING IN MY LATE 40'S. BUT I COULD DEFINATELY RELATE WITH EACH OF THE PERIODS IN THIS MOVIE. THEY ALL SEEMED SO REAL TO ME. I COULD WATCH THIS MOVIE OVER AND OVER, WHICH I DO. ALL THE TIME.

4 out of 5 stars Two out of three ain't bad........2006-09-07

If These Walls Could Talk 2 explores female same sex relationships in different eras, but in the same house.

The first story deals with an old woman who loses her longtime lover due to a fall from a ladder and the eventual death. The dead woman's son and daughter-in-law and granddaughter show up and basically take what is lawfully theirs, the house and its possessions. The old woman is left with nothing and is forced to start over somewhere else despite being in her 60s. I kept thinking to myself, all of this could have been avoided had the dead woman made a will. This story basically deals with how same sex couples don't have the same legal rights. Vanessa Redgrave, who plays the left-behind lover, can't even visit her companion in the hospital room because she's not a relative or spouse. This was definitely the heartwrenching one of the three vignettes.

The second story takes place during the women's feminist movement. Some college lesbian girls go to a gay bar where one of them, Michelle Williams, meets Chloe Sevigny and a romance develops. The only thing, Sevigny's character is butch. And Williams' friends have a problem with a woman acting like a man in order to live the lesbian lifestyle. They see it as defeating the purpose of being a lesbian in the first place. Pretty good performances all around. Nia Long and Natasha Leonne are in the story: both who have played lesbians in other movies.

The third segment deals with a lesbian couple trying to have a baby. It stars Ellen Degeneres and Sharon Stone. This one is boring. All you see is frantic anticipation and turkey basters. There is a surprising steamy sex scene. It's surprising because I never thought a sex scene with Ellen Degeneres could be steamy. I applaud Anne Heche as a director for being able to pull that off. But, it's still a less compelling story than the other two.

All in all, If These Walls...2 is a good movie. It's certainly more tolerable than its predecessor.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars another good one.......2006-11-09

I guess you would consider this the sequel to Honey, I Shrunk the Kids. I always did, at least.

I'm surprised more people haven't written a review for this great movie. If I remember correctly, I went to see Honey, I Blew Up the Kid when it first hit theaters. I enjoyed it then, and when I watched the movie again last year, I found out that I STILL enjoy it.

I agree that the movie should have had more characters involved instead of sticking to the main family (for the most part) but that's not really a big problem. The fact that the kid blows up and walks around doing some creative and amazing things positively makes this a great family movie, in my eyes. When the kid finally leaves the house so all the people can see him, this is when the plot really kicks in. Every bit as good as Honey, I Shrunk the Kids.

5 out of 5 stars WoW!.......2005-10-26

I love this movie, Ive always wanted to own this movie. I have the first one and now I feel my collection is complete. Thanks alot!

4 out of 5 stars that's a big baby.......2005-08-22

A little boy and his stuft animal rabbit got sapt with the machine by acident. At a time when the boy get's around anything electrical he will get bigger once he hit 50 feet he gotten out of the house by himself. When he walk into Las Vegas he reach 100 feet.

4 out of 5 stars Wonderful follow up to the first.......2003-02-19

Usualy sequals to movies like this can really lack and leave a lot desired but this follow up to the hit "Honey I shrunk the Kids" is actualy a lot of fun and a nice change on the size changing themes that were developed in the first.

This movie realized that we probably saw enough of the shrinking and being lost in the backyard idea and decided to do the opposite. A few new characters were introduced in this movie to make things work. The most important being Wanyes new son Adam who is a 2 year old toddler and will be the focus of this latest instalment with the wacky inventor and his family. Wayne now is part of a big company who wants to use his size alteration invention for their own uses. The only problem is he can't get the growth part to work correctly. On a surprise visit to the lab with his two sons to do some extra work, 2 year old Adam accidently gets caught under the rays of the growth ray only to wind up growing very slowly over a long period of time. Before they can blink he has grown to over 100 feet tall and terrorizing
downtown Las Vegas. To make matters worse an evil partner in the company is trying to take control of things and wants the kid destroyed.

Its a fun story that really has a lot of creative moments like His other son and the babysitter getting captured by the giant and stuck in his shirt pocked for most of the movie. They make it look really realistic with the giant baby towering over some famous Las Vegas casinos and the crowd reacting pretty realisticly. Kinda like one of those silly Godzilla movies but still with a Disney charm to it. It has a great story and a good climax and everything seems to end up happily ever after. Its defintely a movie that all ages would enjoy, some may not like it more then the first but this one relies more on fewer characters and a focus of one huge character compared to a lot of small characters. So its a fair tradeoff I feel and worked well.

Unfortunatly though the movie has a few problems. One was that they totaly write out the daughter sending her to college, the neighbors too are not mentioned and they don't really show a lot in the way of the kid growing . He sorta just is one size one moment and bigger another. They could have done a little more with such things but those are minor problems.

Bottom line. If you are looking for a fun, carefree and family safe movie. This is the one for you. If you liked the first or any of the "Honey I..." movies this is a must get for the colection. You won't be disapointed.

When Billy (Doug McKeon) returns home from World War II, he's embittered about the medical treatment that led to having part of his leg amputated after he was wounded in the Iwo Jima assault. His grandfather (Wilford Brimley), anticipating Billy's difficult transition back to civilian life, has bought a couple of redbone hound puppies for the young man--the same dogs he had as a boy, a story told in <I>Where the Red Fern Grows</I>. Billy resists at first but slowly bonds with the dogs, and when a young neighbor boy wants to learn how to hunt raccoons, Billy takes the boy under his wing. Meanwhile, Billy's closest friend and war buddy finds himself wooing Billy's sister Sarah, to Billy's discomfort. <I>Where the Red Fern Grows II</I> (or <I>Part 2</I>, as it's called in the credits) is a fairly straightforward and sentimental tale, but it keeps saccharine at bay by sticking with its characters and treating their lives with respect. Toward the end, when Billy and his grandpa go on a final raccoon hunt together, the movie may try a little too hard to recapture the sadness of the first film, but family audiences will appreciate its unpretentious and genuine tale of life lessons and small-town values. Dog fans in particular will enjoy the extensive montage of the dogs growing up and learning to hunt. <I>--Bret Fetzer</I>

2 out of 5 stars Poor excuse of a video.......2007-01-05

I am a HUGE Wilson Rawls fan. There was no attempt to make a quality video here. The cuts throughout the video were grade-school at the least. If someone would have just taken the time to edit and make sure the sound was right, this would have been a pretty good video. Mr. Rawls is howling from his grave!

5 out of 5 stars Good movie.......2006-03-17

I bought this movie for my granddaughter who had read the book with her class at school. We bought the first movie and she wanted to see the second one as well. This movie takes up a few years after the first ends. The boy is now an adult and is coming back from war with only one of his legs. He has some issues with God and why things are happening to him. It tells a good story about human beings and how friendships can help anyone. I highly recommend both movies to all families.

1 out of 5 stars Bad storyline, worse acting.......2005-12-23

The storyline was weak, the acting was worse.

I hadn't seen part 1 since I was a kid, I ordered both the original and part 2. We watched the original Sunday and my wife an I enjoyed it. We watched Part 2 on Wednesday, and both were rolling our eyes throughout.
The actor portraying Billy did a poor job. It is obvious that he is not a dog person, or was over acting.

The story line left a lot of holes, kind of like reading the back cover of a book instead of reading the book. Not many exciting moments throughout.

Overall the acting was overdone and no character really captured you attention.

Overall it was a feeble attempt to capture the basics of the first movie that clearly missed the mark.

1 out of 5 stars Where the red fern grows part 2.......2004-12-25

The movie did not live up to the 1st movie that came out and was rather dull. They seemed to have tried to hard.

5 out of 5 stars The Best Movie Ever!.......2003-08-18

This is way better than "Where the Red Fern Grows" although slightly less risque than "Where the Red Fern Grows: Tom's third adventure". Although no man named Boris should be allowed to direct a movie about a pup named Skippy, it is still a fine piece of cinemetography. My favorite part is Wilford Brimley's duet with the dog, when they sing a touching rendition of "Together". Remember that old hit, gang? "Wherever we go- Whatever we do- We're gonna go through it together! Ruff ruff! Through thick and through thin- All out and all in- We're gonna go through it together! Meow!" "Hey! Get that lousy cat otta here!"

    Customer Reviews:

    5 out of 5 stars Life.......2007-06-12

What a great social commentary on life. There is a little bit of "The Movie Hero" in all of us.

1 out of 5 stars An Interesting Premise With An Uncertain Execution--"The Movie Hero" Was A Heroic Effort That Just Didn't Work.......2007-03-21

As odd as it might sound, I was rooting for "The Movie Hero" from the instant it began. Even though I had never heard of this extremely small, and quite odd, picture--its opening boldly declared a love of movies that I share wholeheartedly. I thought that, perhaps, the filmmakers and I were simpatico in our passion for cinema. And I had hoped that this perceived bond would cause me to love "The Movie Hero." After all, this is the protagonist's response when his date does not want to share a film with him--"What if this movie held the answer to the universe? That's why you have to see every one." Boy, do I know how he feels. However, the hero's logic is flawed. Seeing every movie can lead to disappointment, as well. And, ultimately, disappointment is the primary emotion I endured as I continued to watch "Hero" beyond its promising beginning.

The setup of "The Movie Hero" sounds interesting. The hero (Jeremy Sisto) haunts the streets of Hollywood speaking directly to the screen. He believes that he is in a film, being watched at all times by a mysterious and unseen group (his personal "audience"). All his dialogue is focused at the camera and, in essence, he is addressing us as his viewers. Sisto is so convinced that he is performing in a movie that he enlists a sidekick, trails a suspicious villain, and makes romance with a conveniently placed love interest (who just happens to be his therapist). It may not sound terrible, but nothing quite connects in this picture. It is a difficult concept to execute, at best, but the tone of "The Movie Hero" is so fanciful--the film starts to feel like one very long joke. In musical terms, it's one note played over and over until your senses are so dulled that you just want it to end. Truly, if Sisto talked about his "audience" one more time, I might simply have done away with myself. Besides being repetitive, the film is also far too precious and self-congratulatory. I know we're meant to delight at the absurdity--but maybe that's just it, it just doesn't go far enough. Even the absurdity is predictable.

I imagine this was conceived as a Charlie Kaufman-esque type of story, but it lacks the spontaneity and wit that Kaufman has employed to good effect. I do credit the writer/director, Brad Gottfred, for attempting something different. At least there is a point of view--and I wish much success for his next endeavor, but this was all a bit of a muddle for me. Sisto, as well, was an unlikely fit for this light and frothy subject matter. I have been a fan of his since "Grand Canyon" when he was a teenager. Appealing mostly for his intensity, he has had great adult roles in "Six Feet Under" and on stage in "Take Me Out"--but lacks a light comedic touch (or loopiness) that might have taken this to the next level. Some may find charm in "The Movie Hero"--in fact, I hope they do. But I'm sorry, none of it really worked for me. KGHarris, 03/07.

4 out of 5 stars brilliant idea; surprisingly great movie.......2007-01-27

While this movie lacks A-list stars, it is surprisingly good comedy! It's a fun movie with the lead character talking to the camera a'la Ferris Bueller. Too bad this didn't get a wide release.

Another addition to the "mockumentary" subgenre of comedy, <I>Welcome to Hollywood</I> follows a hot, young director who decides to pick an unknown actor and make him into a star. Adam Rifkin plays the director and is also the director of <I>Welcome to Hollywood</I>. The actor, rechristened Nick Decker (played by Tony Markes), is unfortunately a bit of a washout, forcing Rifkin to take drastic measures, including hiring supermodel/actress Angie Everhart (who plays herself with a fine sense of irony) to be Decker's girlfriend in order to stir up buzz. The movie doesn't quite have the laughs or the sting of <I>This Is Spinal Tap</I>, which clearly inspired it, but there is a fairly cutting portrait of people who want to be famous at all costs, despite a lack of any apparent talent. It also has a stunning number of cameos by famous actors and directors ruminating on what makes someone a star, including John Travolta, Sandra Bullock, Will Smith, Ewan MacGregor, Glenn Close, Cuba Gooding Jr., and Jeff Goldblum, and several who actually get worked into the movie's plot, including Laurence Fishburne, Ron Shelton (<I>Bull Durham</I>, <I>Tin Cup</I>), Allison Anders (<I>Food Gas Lodging</I>, <I>Mi Vida Loca</I>), and Roger Ebert (!). One of the movie's strengths is that it's not always clear if these famous folk entirely know that they're appearing in this fake documentary, as they've almost entirely been captured at big events where, in the story of the documentary, the filmmakers went to try to sneak some footage of celebrities. One of the best sequences is when Decker gets a bit part on <I>Baywatch</I>, and we get to watch David Hasselhoff and Carmen Electra play themselves. <I>--Bret Fetzer</I>

    3 out of 5 stars I LIKETHESE GUYS!!!.......2001-09-19

Every time I see this film I find a new reason to laugh. With a great concept and a genuinely funny script, Tony Markes and Adam Rifkin here prove that the demented "Dark Backward" was not a creative anomaly. Watching Rifkin and Markes get a bunch of bona-fide stars to be in their zero-budget movie for free is inspiring - a textbook application of the Bowfinger principle - but the real fun here is seeing Markes play all the actors he DIDN'T hire when he was a casting director. These guys are not Farrellys, to be sure, but they're creative and sharp, and until their new collaboration - "Getting Hal" - comes out, this film and "The Dark Backward" will give you strange dreams, indeed.

5 out of 5 stars Funny take on La-La Land.......2000-12-23

This film is a biting take on fame and the city that's on an endless search to foist it on people. Anyone who's ever been on an audition will laugh/cringe as the true humilations of such events are placed squarely in the crosshairs. What this film lacks in production values, it more than makes up for in humor and insight into the world of entertainment. Well worth your time and money.

This is a great movie for kids. I know because once my 3 year old saw it, we didn't stop watching it the whole week. I think to date we have watched it at least 10 times. So, if you want your small children to be entertained...rent or better yet, buy this one. As an adult you may get tired of watching it but you can catch up on that rather much needed rest while the movie is on. Two enthusiastic thumbs up.

    5 out of 5 stars Great Viewing.......2003-01-27

This movie is just plain fun, silly, silly fun. The premise is absurd: a scientist accidentally zaps his toddler with a magnification ray and the kid "blows up" to 120 feet tall and menaces Las Vegas. No one gets hurt in this humorous spoof of 1950s horror films in general and a sweet sequel of the classic Honey I Shrunk the Kids in specific. Watch it with your children and tell me which scene you liked best, the giant toddler refusing to take a nap or the hulking toddler dressed up in oversized hunting gear to look like "my wife's strange" uncle from Ukraine? This is a warm film. Lots of laughs.

5 out of 5 stars Tons of fun!.......2002-09-04

Another one of Wyane's wacky idea's brings him to enlarge his baby child to maybe 50 times! He causes all sorts of trouble for the parents, then the babysitter, and then the city. Ice cream trucks and teddy bears and fire trucks try to stop him, but it's not that easy when your life is at stake for a "squishdown". His mom then intentionally enlarges herself, too, when nothing works. Great movie to enjoy alone, with family, or maybe with friends!

1 out of 5 stars Haven't seen ANYTHING worse than this........2006-10-10

I've bought one and now regret it alot. The video quality is, by far, the worst I've ever seen on DVD, looks like it was recorded from live TV broadcast by a 30 years old VCR plugged into a 40 years old TV set, and the cassete spent 2 to 3 years on some electric magnet before being digitized to DVD.

Not much documentary footage, but alot of the host speculations are filmed, making it look like a bad case of some TV show. Don't even think of buying - if you want a Gulf war documentary look at "Desert Triumf" which is not perfect, but light years ahead of this title.

    5 out of 5 stars A great movie.......2006-01-14

I actually was in this movie, I played Alexandra Small when I was 5, but anyways, I actually love this movie. It is quite a good portrayal of the Gulf War.

3 out of 5 stars Gulf War: First Strike - Winds of the Storm.......2005-05-30

Curious that the title shown during the film is NOT the title on the cover of the box. Still, a thorough & engrossing review of Coalition air activities during this historic conflict.

    5 out of 5 stars the best.......2001-02-24
