Product Description

Shot in Salzburg against the majestic Bavarian Alps, THE SOUND OF MUSIC is considered one of the greatest screen musicals ever made. Winner of five Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Director (Robert Wise), the film, based on a real family and their true events, tells the story of a young postulate, Maria (Julie Andrews), who, after proving too high-spirited for the Mother Abess and other nuns, is sent off to work as a governess to seven unruly children. The Von Trapp family is run, in military style, by the seemingly cold-hearted Captain Von Trapp (Christopher Plummer), a lonely widowed naval officer. Seeing how badly he and his children need companionship, he proposes to the Baroness Schraeder (Eleanor Parker), a calculating, mutual friend of beloved family friend Max Detweiler (Richard Haydn). It is the baroness who soon realizes that it's Maria--with her warmth and love for the children--the captain really loves. It is nearly bliss for the newly formed family who loves to sing together--except for the cloud looming over their beloved Austrian horizon: Hitler is ascending to power, forcing Von Trapp to decide whether to join the Nazi party--which he loathes--or force his family to leave their home forever. One of the most memorable scores ever written (by Rodgers and Hammerstein) and breathtaking performances by Andrews, Plummer, and the seven children mark this classic as one of the world's most favorite films.

When Julie Andrews sang "The hills are alive with the sound of music" from an Austrian mountaintop in 1965, the most beloved movie musical was born. To be sure, the adaptation of Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II's Broadway hit has never been as universally acclaimed as, say, <I>Singin' in the Rain</I>. Critics argue that the songs are saccharine (even the songwriters regretted the line "To sing through the night like a lark who is learning to pray") and that the characters and plot lack the complexity that could make them more interesting. It's not hard to know whom to root for when your choice is between cute kids and Nazis.

    <table align=left cellpadding="6" cellspacing="0" > <tr><td align="center"> <img src="http://images.amazon.com/images/G/01/dvd/aplus/charmian-carr.gif" border=0 align=top>
    <span class="tiny">Read our interview with
    Charmian Carr, who played
    Liesl von Trapp in The
Sound of Music. </span> </td></tr> </table> It doesn't matter. Audiences fell in love with the struggling novice Maria (Andrews), the dashing Captain von Trapp (Christopher Plummer), and, yes, the cute kids, all based on a real-life World War II Austrian family. Such songs as "My Favorite Things," "Do Re Mi," "Climb Every Mountain," and the title tune became part of the 20th century Zeitgeist. In addition, <I>The Sound of Music</I> officially became a cult hit when audiences in London began giving it the <I>Rocky Horror Picture Show</I> treatment, attending showings dressed as their favorite characters and delivering choreographed comments and gestures along with the movie. So why resist, especially when the 40th Anniversary Edition is the best DVD yet.

    <b>The DVDs</b>
As if the direct involvement of Julie Andrews weren't enough, the 40th Anniversary Edition of <I>The Sound of Music</I> is a must-have for fans because of the fond sense of nostalgia that will touch all but the worst cynic's heart. Andrews introduces both discs and contributes a commentary track on the film. It's a joy to hear her speak about the film (for example, she explains how she solved her dislike for the lyrics of "I Have Confidence"), and also heard are remarks by Christopher Plummer (who at one point refers to his being 48, which if true would mean his comments were made in about 1975), Charmian Carr (Liesl), choreographer Dee Dee Wood, and Johannes Von Trapp (the real-life Maria Von Trapp's youngest son, who admits that his father did have a whistle but claims that he was not as stern as portrayed in the film). Even with all those people involved, there are still significant gaps of silence, however. Retained from the previous two-disc editions is the commentary track by director Robert Wise, which during the musical numbers becomes an isolated score with no vocals. Also new are sing-along subtitles in English, Spanish, and French, which allow you to have your own sing-along at home. In addition, the film's remastering shows off a truer and much warmer sense of color.

On the second disc, Andrews participates in a new 63-minute documentary "My Favorite Things: Julie Andrews Remembers." But it's really a general making-of documentary with contributions from a number of principals, including director Robert Wise, who died in mid-2005 (not surprisingly, some stories are repeated from the commentary track and from the 87-minute documentary on the previous DVD). Andrews also shares a warm 19-minute sit-down with Christopher Plummer. Carr, who over the years has become the film's biggest advocate, narrates a new 22-minute documentary, "On Location with <I>The Sound of Music</I>," in which she revisits the places in Salzburg where the movie was filmed, and even joins one of the "<I>Sound of Music</I> tours" that have become a booming industry. And acknowledging another big industry, there's a 12-minute featurette on the sing-along phenomenon, focusing specifically on the audience, costumed and otherwise, that attended a sold-out Hollywood Bowl sing-along in 2005. Making special appearances at the event are four von Trapp great-grandchildren and all seven of the actors who played the children. Thankfully, those actors also appear in a 33-minute documentary "From Liesl to Gretl: A 40th Anniversary Reunion," in which they explain what they do now (many are still in show business) and share stories about the film, who was afraid of Christopher Plummer, and what they feel is their responsibility to the film's passionate fans. What's touching is how the group still considers themselves a family so many years later. Other material includes an A&E documentary on the von Trapps, Mia Farrow's screen test for the Liesl role, and a restoration comparison.

    <b>What's Missing?</b>
If you already own the previous two-disc editions, you'll want this 40th Anniversary Edition as well, but you might not want to toss those versions. Probably the most significant omission from this edition is the original 14-minute documentary Charmian Carr made in 1967, "Salzburg Sight and Sound." Carr's new documentary includes only a couple clips from the vintage piece. It's not a great work of art, but it's a notable loss and would have made a good contrast with the new documentary. In addition, the new making-of documentary is about 24 minutes shorter than the old one. Also missing are the audio-only features--the interviews, the radio programs, the Ernest Lehman spotlight--and the historical still gallery examining the history of Salzburg and the film. Granted, this material probably got the least play of any of the old features, but completists might want to hold onto their old discs for it. It would have also been nice to have screen tests other than Farrow's. Tests for all the children and for Christopher Plummer (including singing in his own voice before he was dubbed for the film) were included on Hollywood something and Rodgers and Hammerstein: The Sound of the Movies. Again, they're not critical but it would have been nice to have them all in one place. So maybe the 40th Anniversary Edition isn't the complete package on <I>The Sound of Music</I>, but it's the most satisfying edition yet, with enough new material to please even the veteran <I>SoM</I> DVD watcher. <I>--David Horiuchi</I>

Packed with more than 750 dazzling visual effects, this $70 million adventure does more (and less) than give the 1965-68 TV series a state-of-the-art face-lift. Aimed at an audience that wasn't born when the series originally aired, the sci-fi extravaganza doesn't even require familiarity, despite cameo appearances by several of the TV show's original cast members. Instead it's a high-tech hybrid of the original premise with enough sensory overload to qualify as a spectacular big-screen video game, supported by a time-travel premise that's adequately clever but hardly original. It's certainly never boring, and visually it's an occasionally awesome demonstration of special effects technology. But in its attempt to be all things to all demographics, the movie's more of a marketing ploy than a satisfying adventure, thankfully dispensing with the TV show's cheesy camp but otherwise squandering a promising cast in favor of eye-candy and ephemeral storytelling. In keeping with the movie's high-tech appeal, the DVD is a feature-packed marvel, including two audio commentaries, deleted scenes, two featurettes covering special effects and the original TV series (featuring complete biographies and episode guides), the original screenplay, and interactive games. <I>--Jeff Shannon</I>

1 out of 5 stars Lost In The Re-write.......2007-04-12

I assume that at some point this project had a much better script than the final one in order to get William Hurt and others involved. I'll hold that in my mind as the only way they would get into this mess. It has action and special effects enough for 4 movies, but the plot is all over the map and never congeals into anything special. With the talent and money that they must have had this is one poor excuse of a movie.

    5 out of 5 stars Highly Under-rated.......2007-03-13

I would give it four thumbs up if I had four hands! The special effects are spectacular, the cast work together, and the storyline keeps you watching. Would love to have seen a sequel to this one....oh, and Penny Robinson is just as cute as she can be.

    3 out of 5 stars Matt LeBlanc.......2007-03-09

Okay, at least Matt tried his best with a cast better than the cast of Friends. Unfortunately, Robot was even better than him. Heather Graham, William Hurt and the rest of the family did justice to the old tv show. I loved the cameos from the old cast. The only thing I didn't like was the bad guy (an infected Dr. Smith) and the writer's attempt at the time paradox plot. I'd rather watch Time Cop again if I want a paradox.

3 out of 5 stars Cliche ridden, but enough fun to forgive most of it........2007-02-02

I remember the series Lost in Space as corny and campy, not much different from other 60s fluff that offered no illusions of seriousness. The movie, on the other hand, had both motive and opportunity to make it respectable. Given the cast and budget, it certainly failed my expectations. The story is actually pretty good with a nice twist toward the end and a terrific climax. The special effects are well done and more than enough to keep things visually appealing all the way through. Where it suffers is in the dialogue and in the two dimensional characters that never rise above what's necessary. Most of the cast stepped into this with impressive credentials and I was expecting some pretty dynamic acting because of it. For whatever reasons, they were limited to contrived, predictable lines that did more damage than any over the top special effects (including the alien weasel thingy they manufactured for kid appeal). Unfortunately, I think even kids sniffed this one out as a bit of a stinker. That said, it has its moments and offers enough fun to make the worst of it forgivable. Perhaps my expectations were too high. I think it was, however, a missed opportunity on a number of levels. A better showing up front might have laid the foundation for a better sequel. We'll never know.

2 out of 5 stars Okay popcorn flick, but offers nothing new.......2007-01-20

1998's "Lost in Space" is just a mediocre sci-fi movie that's full of plot devices we've already seen in droves of other sci-fi outings. Nothing new here. And we've already seen this exact same idea executed in the 1960's TV series. Why do we need to see it again? Just to see the improved video game-like visual effects? But this movie only seemed to be made as a marketing ploy to sell toys. They didn't even bother with a sequel, and the movie ended with a strong hint that there would be.

They really need to stop dusting off old TV shows for movie ideas, and start coming up with some original ideas again.

Some people may sneer at this 1965 musical, but the truth is the film has earned its status as a perennially watchable romantic-drama, largely on the strength of a fun story and chemistry between stars Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer. Veteran filmmaker Robert Wise (<I>The Day the Earth Stood Still</I>) mostly stays out of the way of the film's appealing elements, which include a based-on-fact tale of Austria's von Trapp family, who fled their Nazi-occupied country in 1938. Andrews is delightful and even fascinating as Maria, who sheds her tomboyish ways as a novice nun to accept the mantle of adulthood, becoming matron of the motherless von Trapp clan. Plummer is matinee-idol handsome and gives a smart performance to boot, and the cast of young people and kids who make up the singing von Trapp children make a strong impression. Based on the Rodgers and Hammerstein stage musical, the score includes such winners as "Maria" and the future John Coltrane hit "My Favorite Things." <I>--Tom Keogh</I>

A Family Night is made of... Sound of Music. Worth watching over and over.

5 out of 5 stars saw it as a child and now at my 40s.. it still holds the magic.......2007-06-05

This review is about the movie and not the DVD Product-

I saw it yesterday, Im 43, last time I saw ir I was 28 and prior to that I was 12 the first time I saw it. It still holds the magic, and now I can say its a classic for all the family.

Yes, now I see details I previously did no see. The plot is so idillic that you don't feel the nazi presence inspiring fear, the love scenes are a perfect example of puritanism and political correctness. Yet there is love and there Julie Andrews gives a performance larger than life to captivate all public.

I do not know why in the review preface there is some critisims of the lyrics of the song "Sound of music"- those were elaborated lyrics and none of that senseless rap or overly simplistic lyrics. Sugarcoated? You bet, but just like the pinl lemonade they were sipping on the terrace, "its not too sweet, not too acid, its just too pink "

The movie has an ending that is rather sudden, just as it starts with that glorious song it should have ended with one as well, a triumph song. I still have the same feeling I did when I was 12, what happened to them?

When Maureen McGovern sang the torchy hit "The Morning After" in the original <I>Poseidon Adventure</I>, this probably wasn't what she had in mind. But for viewers, this post-disaster disaster film--which takes place immediately after the original <I>Poseidon</I> capsized--is fearlessly campy and surprisingly entertaining. As per the recipe for '70s catastrophe movies, <I>Beyond the Poseidon Adventure</I> (directed and produced by the original's Irwin Allen) boasts a top-notch ensemble cast. Michael Caine is the crusty, opportunistic tug captain who comes across the wreck of the <I>Poseidon</I> and immediately declares, "Salvage! Salvage is our salvation." Along for the ride on Caine's tug are Karl Malden and a still ingénue-ish Sally Field. They meet up mid-ocean with the suave doctor/rescuer Telly Savalas, who may not be all he says he is. And inside the wreck, incredibly, there are survivors. The film may follow a fairly predictable formula by this time (1979), but it's fun nonetheless. The effects are just right, there's plenty of treachery and tension to keep things moving along merrily, and the capsizing of the boat means the set consists of upside-down ship innards (blessedly, this also means the shag carpeting is on the ceiling, rarely seen). Families and couples are wrenched apart, unscrupulous bastards reveal hearts of gold, and the plucky ones (almost) always survive. Among the rest of the cast are Shirley Jones as the Poseidon's nurse, Peter Boyle as a passenger and concerned dad, and a baby-faced Mark Harmon as a farming kid from "back home" in Iowa, cute as the early-years Beatles. Extras include a vintage making-of featurette (perms! elephant bells!) and a montage of the era's disaster-film trailers, a movie-buff time capsule in itself. <I>--A.T. Hurley</I>

    Description

A monstrous tidal has left the luxury liner Poseidon capsized mid-ocean and its few survivors struggling to reach safety in an upside-down world. But The Poseidon Adventure was only the thrilling start. You must go Beyond the Poseidon Adventure to complete the white-knuckle suspense. Under producer/director Irwin Allen, Michael Caine and Sally Field head an all-star cast caught in the crippled craft's flaming corridors and bursting bulwarks. Tug skipper Caine, first mate Karl Malden and passenger Field enter the foundering vessel hoping for salvage rights, miraclulously finding more survivors. But others have come aboard, led by sinister Dr. Stefan Svevo (Telly Savalas). He wants a priceless cargo of plutonium - and will kill for his plunder! <P><b>DVD Features:</b>

    2 out of 5 stars Annoying movie.......2007-05-07

The DVD quality was fine, but the movie was boring and unnecessary. I loved the original, so I was hoping this sequel would be good but is wasn't. There wasn't anything original about it, and I couldn't wait for it to end.

4 out of 5 stars Not as good as the original, but..........2007-04-21

Granted, "Beyond the Poseidon Adventure" is not as worthwhile as "The Poseidon Adventure, that preceded it in 1972, but still, taking it as a separate movie and by itself, it is not so bad after all.

Starring Michael Caine, Karl Malden, Sally Field, Peter Boyle, Telly Savalas among many others, with a cast like this there is still juice to it, even if the story is a bit weak and shaky.

The premise of it all, is the rescue by a fisher boat of possible survivors on board of the upside-down, but not as yet, sunken "Poseidon".

Soon though a gang of hoodlums also appear and they have absolutely no intention at rescuing people, but rather steal dangerous weapons that were carried in the cargo bay of that ship.

The problems start when the two groups meet and soon thereafter the ship starts to give obvious signs of its sinking...

The rest is up to you, to find out.

The transfer is decent and far better than its VHS counterpart, that only gave you a third of the scope of the entire movie.

The sound isn't Stereo anymore, as for the original picture, it is plain 2-channel Mono, but clear enough to be enjoyed.

This is not a Drama as "The Poseidon Adventure", it is a well-meant adventure movie, with some tense moments distributed here and there.

It is a very typical product of its times though (we are talking of the late seventies here) and as such it is still better than some cheesy pictures we are getting nowadays.

For its worth, it is money well spent.

2 out of 5 stars For fans of disaster movies only.......2007-03-21

I grew up watching these all star disaster movies and even if this one is bottom of the barrel, it's fun to watch. If you want something that makes sense look someplace else, but if very bad disaster movies are your thing then kick back and enjoy.

3 out of 5 stars Beyond the Poseidon Adventure.......2007-03-08

Not as great as the first movie but it's ok you gotta see just because it's a the seqel to the orignal

    2 out of 5 stars Unworthy Sequel.......2007-03-06

In 1978, when film critic Roger Ebert interviewed Irwin Allen, the mega-producer suggested a potential story idea for a planned sequel to "The Poseidon Adventure"...The survivors of the Poseidon disaster would be rescued and taken to land in Italy where they would be placed on a train which would go through a tunnel in the Alps. The tunnel would collapse and everyone would be trapped under the mountain. Ebert thought it was an excellent idea. And as it turns out Mr. Allen should have went with it. Because the movie he wound up making is an idiotic waste of time; ranks among the worst sequels ever made; and marked the beginning of the end of Allen's reign as the "Master of Disaster." Side note: Allen directed this mess and, as "Beyond TPA" star Michael Caine said in his autobiography, good ol' Irwin should have stuck to producing! Worth a look for "Poseidon" fans, but that's about it.

3 out of 5 stars Another High School movie.......2007-05-17

A good cast of 80's characters. Unfortunately, this movie belongs in the 80's.

3 out of 5 stars Cute movie from the 80s.......2007-02-08

This is a typical high school 80's movie. It is not a very good movie because it is so predictible and full of clichés. On the other hand, for nostalgia reasons and for the fun of seeing again some teen actors that we liked then and some that became famous accomplished actors (such as Michael J. Fox among others) I would recommend it. Moreover, if we compare this movie with today's teen comedies (that are often more vulgar and gross than funny), this movie is not that bad. There is a certain innocence that makes this movie sweet. Although I doubt today's teenagers will like it, High School USA may bring back good memories for peoples between the age of 25 and 35.

    4 out of 5 stars What's this????.......2006-09-18

I've never heard of this movie before. I liked Michael J. Fox from his Family Ties days. This looked like a funny and interesting movie to watch. Which it was by the way. I don't suggest buying this because this is not something you would watch more than once in my opinion. I think it would be better to rent it if you want to watch it. Still a good movie.

5 out of 5 stars An old favorite brought back..........2005-12-21

My older brother taped this off of TV years ago and it always became a running joke amongst myself and my siblings. I was so excited to see it put onto DVD. The movie itself is pure camp, but that it what makes it so enjoyable. It is the epitome of 80's made-for-tv-movies with all the great stars of that time. I highly recommend this for a laugh.

    5 out of 5 stars Amazing! It wasn't a dream!.......2005-02-06

I had this movie on tape from tv probably close to 18 years ago...? Maybe that long...? Anyway, I lost the tape of course and could never remember the name of this movie. I was shocked to see this on Amazon for such a low price. If you like 80's movies with pretty much every great 80's up & commers actors/actresses, buy this!!! If you can't appreciate JJ Manners charm than why are you even reading this?

The first indication that this made-for-TV tribute to <I>Lost in Space</I> was hastily slapped together is its choice of hosts. Instead of picking somebody associated with the show, or with show creator Irwin Allen, or even with science fiction, the producers picked sitcom star John Larroquette. That's the first of a series of awkward choices (Larroquette's banter with the Robot is particularly awful), which reaches its nadir in a segment in which Billy Mumy, Jonathan Harris, and the Robot reunite--in character as Will Robinson, Dr. Smith, and the Robot--on the reconstructed deck of the <I>Jupiter 2</I>, and pretend to get lost in space... forever! Ick.

The fact that Billy Mumy was a producer and cowriter on this project only erodes the credibility he built up for himself by being half of the musical duo Barnes & Barnes (whose "Fish Heads" video was directed by character actor Bill Paxton). Was Mumy really "one of the busiest and most versatile child actors of the decade"? (Busiest, perhaps.) Was the premiere of the 1998 film version of <I>Lost in Space</I> really "the most eagerly anticipated in motion picture history"? Doubtful. But there are some nice moments pulled out of the archive. Clips from the original pilot are shown in length with no annoying commentary, and the screen test of Guy Williams (Prof. John Robinson) shows a charming man who might be described as a '60s version of George Clooney. Recommended for hardcore fans of the show who are willing to sort through the modern-day crap for the archival gems. <I>--Andy Spletzer</I>

5 out of 5 stars Classic Sci Fi Show.......2006-10-29

it's worth buying if you are a fan of lis has interviews with cast members, behind scenes, best part was return of Will,Dr.Smith & Robot. They still got it as if they never stop playing their rolls.GET IT.....Now..

    4 out of 5 stars Worth Having.......2005-08-03

I read the other amazon reviews about this show and was almost reluctant to buy it. However being a hardcore fan of Lost in Space, I bought it and very much enjoyed it. I think John Larroquette hosted the show wonderfully regardless of his lack of affiliation with it. I do agree with one thing: The "BONUS Footae" became quite boring after awhile. Unfortunately there was NO SOUND and it was just LONG, OVERLY-EXTENDED scenes of the cyclops giant, the chariot, and the Jupiter 2. Other than that, I enjoyed the reenactment of grown-up Will, aged Smith and the Robot getting lost in space. It was evident to me that Jonathan Harris hadn't changed a bit and was an outstanding actor until the end. They could have done so much more with this show, perhaps it was hastily put together. I have to agree with Andy Spletzer: "Recommended for hardcore fans of the show."

5 out of 5 stars I liked it. Worth the $$$ to me.......2005-07-02

After reading the many lukewarm reviews here, I didn't have very high expectations for this DVD of a 1998 documentary produced in part to hype the Lost In Space motion picture released around that time. But after hearing that there was one last scene on here with the 1960s Dr. Smith and Will Robinson in character circa 1998, I knew I HAD to have this.

Turned out the documentary itself wasn't half as bad as I had been dreading. In fact I'd say overall it's pretty decent. Yeah, so John Laroquette is irrelevant to LIS, but I've seen many other documentaries hosted by people equally unrelated to their subject matter (--hell, Bill Mumy himself sometimes acts as host of Biography). At least Laroquette wasn't particularly irritating here like he could have been.

Maybe if you're a hardcore LIS fan who has read every book and article available on the subject, then there probably won't be much new here for you. But as someone who always enjoyed the show but hasn't really gotten into the fandom side of things, this documentary was just right for me and I picked up many a new fact here and there (eg.: John "Star Wars" Williams did the music for LIS too? I did not know that. And the guy who did the robot's voice was a completely different person from the one inside the suit? I did not know that either.)

It was great seeing the remaining cast members as they looked in 1998 and finding out what they had been doing during all the years since. I also found this documentary very useful when trying to educate friends brand new to the classic LIS with more background info on the show. It really helps to show them how important this show is to many people (yes, I am NOT a freak for liking this!), and why. After watching this, they are not quite so dismissive of the show and are more willing to try and give it a chance.

Bonus material includes the original network promo presentation for potential advertisers (now also available on one of the LIS TV show DVDs), some SFX footage they shot of the giant cyclops for the show's pilot (I was surprised it was in colour. Did they shoot all the B & W shows in colour first?), and Guy Williams' screen test for Irwin Allen to get the part of Prof. John Robinson (my squeaky-clean image of Prof. Robinson is forever destroyed thanks to a moment when Williams seems intent on revealing to Irwin Allen the tender young age he lost his virginity at. Gah!)

But the real highlight here is of course the scene with Will and Dr. Smith. Both actors deliver their lines as convincingly as if they had just walked off the 60s set, and the Jupiter II mock-up they are in looks quite authentic too. The scene is over in a brief couple of minutes and the ending is a little silly, but I have to say it was really great just to get one final glimpse of them. It will be the last, unfortunately, due to the death of Jonathan Harris just months after. I really wish they had done more like this and sooner, but I guess something is better than nothing....

So for me, this disc was the perfect way to complete my LIS DVD collection. Just like the extra disc included especially for the fans in the Space 1999 DVD Megaset, it adds that last little something extra that's really nice to have. I think that this is one of those obscure titles that will be highly sought-after by fans after it goes out of print, so grab it while you can.

(--And for any people reading this from the DVD-making biz, howsabout releasing the episode of the 80s gameshow "Family Feud" that they mention in this documentary, where the cast of LIS were guests? I'd buy that!)

4 out of 5 stars Great, but could have had a little more.......2005-04-03

I'm not sure why someone would question the choice for the host of the show. John LaR was just fine, seeming to grasp the importance of Lost in Space to its fans. he also seemed to blend in with the inside humour.
I would have liked to have seen some outtakes, but you can't have it all.
As stated by another, the colour was great. Seeing Guy Williams doing the interview was very enlightening to me. He's been described as a 50's/60's George Cluny. Bull! He is an Errol Flynn if there ever was one, and that screen test mkaes him seem more akin to Flynn in that cocky way. Cluny does not have the features of those two, nor could he be considered a looker at all, in comparison.
To see Johnathon Harris have some fun again was great. At the time of the 1997 movie he was asked if he did a cameo in the film. His answer was, "Cameos? We do not do cameos!"
Mumy actually seemed like a kid again, which is strange for all the growing up he had to do. He was fine.
All of the interviews were much appreciated, but a tad too short.
Watching this made me decide to get all of the DVD's of the three seasons, but I am going to wait to see if there is a package of all of them when the second half of the third season hits. Sure beats cable-cr**ola.

3 out of 5 stars One Last Trip Aboard the Jupiter 2.......2003-02-23

While the majority of this DVD is a rehash of other Lost in Space documentaries, it is worth purchasing for the last 10 minutes of the main feature - in which Dr. Smith and Will reappear aboard the pretty accuruate reconstruction of the Jupiter 2 - in full character and costume. The late great Johnathan Harris shows he can still play Dr. Smith to a tee. While its a shame he did not live to participate in the "Voyage Home" TV movie, this is the next best thing seeing these memorable characters give it one last show. Also interesting is the "making of" segment showing the filming of the final segment. No serious Lost in Space should be without having this DVD.
