John Travolta traded in disco duds for a cowboy hat in this corny love story about a working man who breaks up with his girlfriend (Debra Winger), then plays out their relationship's turmoil inside a huge honky-tonk called Gilley's. The story essentially parallels Travolta's prior hit film, Saturday Night Fever, in its blend of ordinary life, incomplete relationships, and personal pride channeled into niche stardom at a neighborhood club. But for all its regional flavor, <I>Urban Cowboy</I> never enjoys the immediacy and urgency of <I>Fever</I>, and after awhile you can't help but feel bemused by the macho silliness of ongoing "mechanical bull" competitions (basically a faux rodeo device only brave men can master at great chiropractic risk). The Travolta-Winger relationship is pure soap, as well. But this film really is a kind of time-capsule piece on a lot of levels--notably Travolta's career and late '70s Western kitsch--and while it's silly, it's certainly not disagreeable. --Tom Keogh

LOOKING FOR LOVE IN ALL THE WRONG PLACES.......2007-04-11
I am someone who would rather watch "Urban Cowboy" than "Saturday Night Fever". Maybe because it doesn't feel as dated as SNF?..I don't know. It is a more entertaining film to me. I know this movie has taken a lot of flack, but it is one of those films you can watch once in a while. The DVD transfer is good, but a very weak release in the way of extras.
Urban Cowboy Movie on DVD must have.......2007-03-10
at last I found my Urban Cowboy movie... love the movie
Great movie.......2007-01-08
I like the music in this novie, the acting is wonderful! This have been five stars but I'd like to see the place they made the movie, It's gone now.
WORTH A MILLION STARS!!!.......2006-12-17
OMG I love John Travolta! This is hands down 1 of my favorite movies ever! This movie is a little inappropriate, but comon now, its John Travolta. Another great purchase is the soundtrack. I know that sountracks suck but this 1 is awesome! (and John is on the cover :)
A terrific li'l album that evokes a fun period and flick.......2006-08-26
For those of us who came of age when "Urban Cowboy" introduced John Travolta to the world in his third iconic dance-man starring role (after Saturday Night Fever and Grease) in a productive three-year period, this soundtrack is an essential. We're all familiar with the big hits that populated this disc and dominated Top 40 radio in the early '80s, but I'd buy it solely for the haunting duet by Linda Ronstadt and J.D. Souther, "Hearts Against the Wind," that closes the show.

<I>Baywatch</I>, television's most-famous "jiggle series" and by some counts the most-watched show around the world, did more for slow-motion beach joggers than anything since <I>Chariots of Fire</I>--just replace the British Olympic athletes with young women in high-cut red swimsuits who look like <I>Playboy</I> models. The premise of <I>Baywatch</I> is straightforward: a Los Angeles-based team of lifeguards saves swimmers and occasionally fights crime, led by beefcake Mitch Buchannon (David Hasselhoff). And those <I>Playboy</I> models? Erika Eleniak turned a 1989 magazine spread into a role as lifeguard Shauni McClain for two-plus seasons alongside Billy Warlock's Eddie Kramer character (the actors themselves had a brief engagement), and most of the season's action revolved around the lives and loves of Mitch, Shauni, and Eddie. (The most famous <I>Baywatch</I> babe, Pamela Anderson, would arrive the following season.) When they weren't saving people on the beach, they were involved in movie shoots ("Money, Honey"), gang wars ("Point of Attack"), homeless girls ("Sandcastles") and stray pets ("Thin or Die"), a serious charge against Eddie ("The Trophy"), a <I>Gilligan's Island</I> hallucination ("Now, Sit Right Back and You'll Hear a Tale"), and chemical dumping ("The Big Spill"). Hasselhoff's real-life wife, Pamela Bach, appears in a recurring role as reporter Kaye Morgan, Wendie Malick (<I>Just Shoot Me</I>, <I>Dream On</I>) has a small role as Mitch's ex-wife, Gayle, and Tom McTigue plays lifeguard Harvey Miller.
Calling this set "season 1" is a misnomer. It's really the final 20 episodes of the second season (1991-92), which was the first season the series was in syndication after being dropped by NBC. (The first two episodes, the two parts of "Nightmare Bay," were previously released on DVD by another studio and are not included here.) In this season, Jeremy Jackson had replaced Brandon Call as Mitch's son, Hobie, and regular cast members Parker Stevenson (as Mitch's friend, Craig Pomeroy) and Shawn Weatherly (as lifeguard Jill Riley) were gone as well. However, the series pilot of the real season 1, called "Panic at Malibu Pier," is included as a bonus. Also, co-creators and executive producers Greg Bonann, Doug Schwartz, and Michael Berk discuss their favorite episodes from the second season in a 16-minute segment. Another drawback, however, is that much of the original music has been replaced, including "I'm Always Here," Jimi Jamison's theme song. <I>--David Horiuchi</I>

Customer Reviews:
Disappointed.......2007-04-10
I watched all 3 seasons and sometimes a little confused. I was really disappointed with them. At the beginning of the season it was almost as if I missed a whole season. There was nothing on Shawnie and Eddie wedding. The begining of the second season I remember Summer and Matt first meeting and that was not on that set. I did enjoy watching the episodes that I haven't seen in awhile because I am a big baywatch fan.
Really Season 2, but so what!.......2007-03-11
Having loved this show, & having read Greg J. Bohannon's (one of the creators of the show) book about his memories of the show, it is easy to see why the NBC episodes are being tossed around, In 1989, NBC ran this show for one season, but then cancelled it, creators Bohannon, Micheal Berk & Douglas Swartz bought back the rights to air & produce it elsewhere, & along with Hasselhoff were able to make it their own, & get it picked up by an independent network, according to Bohannon, NBC just didn't get it, this season 1 is, as many have pointed out, season 2, but to Bohannon, Berk, & Swartz, it is their season 1, & it is so nice to see this show again, back when these aired, I missed quite a bit of episodes, it is so cool to now see them in order, yes the theme song is changed, like many have pointed out, the original theme song was better, & Hasselhoff tried to buy the rights to it, but was unsuccessful, you have all the illegal song downloaders to thank for that, I am amazed Universal got all the original songs for "Miami Vice", because record labels are playing hardball when it comes to DVD, that is why it took so long for this show as well as shows like "Beverly Hills 90210", "Melrose Place" as well as "Vice" to make their way to DVD, only Universal has been successful at securing the rights to the songs on "Vice", mainly because Universal is part of Universal Music Group, sadly "Baywatch" was not produced by a studio like Universal, despite this, this is a good show, the songs may be missing, but the show's magic is still intact, & with a total of ten seasons, the NBC episodes will likely be completed with each season, I like many reviewers here, I am not happy about it, but you have to look at it from the show's creator's point of view, NBC killed their show & told them more or less that it sucked & I am sure there is some bitterness there, if put in their shoes, any of us would most likely do it this way as well, but like one reviewer pointed out, that is one less season to buy!!
Disappointed........2007-02-05
Buyers, take heed. The series has been altered.
The series is indeed Baywatch, but they have taken out the opening song, "I'm Always Here." and closing song "Current of Love" both which were sung by David Hasselhoff.
I was looking forward to seeing this series again. But am disappointed that the music was tampered with. It's like taking the opening music out of the series CHiPs, or any other series that has it's signature opening.
And, as stated by other people, the seasons are being released out of order. And there are episodes missing.
If you want the series Baywatch, just to have it. Then get these. However, if you want the series in it's entirety, music included, then I would wait until they release the series correctly.
They need to go back to the drawing board on this one. :(
Missing Episodes????.......2007-01-14
Okay - did anybody actually buy this thing & keep it? Because I got it & Season 2 & by the looks of it Eddie & Shauni's wedding is on NEITHER of them!!!! Same with that storm drain episode where Hobie (Jeremy Jackson) pulls that prank & Mitch yells at him for it later on. They showed clips of all this in the episode where Mitch almost dies because he free-style dived too deep - but I haven't seen them & Eddie & Shauni aren't in Season '2' so how the Heck am I to see their wedding!?!?!?!?! Or is their wedding in the REAL Season 1??? And has anybody else's DVDs skipped like a VHS tape would when the tracking is off??? Please Help!!!!!
Baywatch Season 1.......2007-01-10
If this was the correct seasons one this would of got a 5 star review. This is actually season two and season two is actually season three as "Summer" never joined Baywatch till season three. Also season one has "Jill" character as well as "Craig" Parker Stevenson and the famous shark episode where one lifeguard gets attack.
I enjoyed the dvd however as the first three seasons were my favourite, would of liked season one to be the original though. Good to see Australia companies got it right. I've already pre-booked my order for the complete "original" season one.

The premise of <I>Baywatch</I> is straightforward: a Los Angeles-based team of lifeguards saves swimmers and occasionally fights crime, led by beefcake Mitch Buchannon (David Hasselhoff). And those <I>Playboy</I> models? This season marked the debut of the quintessential <I>Baywatch</I> babe Pamela Anderson as C.J. Parker. Also debuting were Nicole Eggert as Roberta "Summer" Quinn, and Alexandra Paul as Mitch's old flame, Lt. Stephanie Holden. Future <I>Showgirls</I> star Elizabeth Berkley and surf champion Kelly Slater appear in a short-lived love triangle with Summer, Gregory Alan Williams continues to make appearances as Sergeant Garner Ellerbee, and David Charvet plays newcomer lifeguard Matt Brody. Throughout the season, Mitch and Stephanie dance around rekindling their relationship (but the attempt to use Mitch to evoke Bogie in <I>Casablanca</I> is just silly). Other events and encounters of the season include pirates ("Masquerade"), a basketball slaying ("Lifeguards Can't Jump"), a diamond smuggler ("Strangers Among Us"), a cruise hijacking ("Vacation"), an escaped convict ("The Tower"), a devastating injury to a key crew member ("Shattered"), and an Australian crew member (Trevor Goddard) in the season finale ("Fatal Exchange").
Just as with the previous set, calling this set "season 2" is a misnomer. It's really the final 20 episodes of the third season (1992-93), which was the second season the series had been in syndication. Noticeably absent are the first two episodes, the two parts of "River of No Return," which were previously released on DVD by another studio and are not included here. That's significant because those episodes marked the departure of former regulars Erika Eleniak and Billy Warlock, as well as the series debuts of Pamela Anderson and Nicole Eggert. However, the second and third episodes of the real season 1, "In Deep" and "Heat Wave," are included as bonuses. Also, co-creators and executive producers Greg Bonann, Doug Schwartz, and Michael Berk discuss the creation of the show and its move from NBC to syndication in a 13-minute segment. Another drawback, however, is that much of the original music has been replaced, including "I'm Always Here," Jimi Jamison's theme song. <I>--David Horiuchi</I>

The little things matter a lot.......2007-06-19
When I first popped disc one of season two into my dvd player, (I skipped season 1 because I never started watching the show reruns untill the mid 90's.)
I was confused by the theme song and credits music. I remember lazy summer afternoons when I was a teen lazing around the house in little denim shorts and bare feet and Baywatch would come on and I'd turn off my brain and enjoy it while sucking on one of those ice pops. For some reason,.. the theme music and music playing in the credits was really fitting for the show and had a good "summer on the beach" feel to it. It was almost comforting,.. and it stuck with me. (even though I hate music by Hasselhoff)
So it totally sucks that we will never have Baywatch exactly the way we saw it back in the 90's. Otherwise, the show is just as I remember it and I love the nostalgia. But that new theme music, man that sucks. Makes it so much harder to travel back in time to my happy teens when things aren't the same.
But,.. the theme song isn't the main part of the show,.. so I'm not going to rate it bad just for that.
Disappointing picture quality.......2007-04-21
The picture quality is worse than that of the reruns on TV [Analog Cable, "Low" definition]. The fact that the show is from the 90's isn't an excuse - I've bought DVDs of show from the 60's [some of them "colorized" B&W], and they look much better. I agree with all the criticisms about the theme - even if they couldn't get the rights to the original theme, they still could have found something much better.
Hopefully when they release the other seasons they'll do a much better job.
Awesome TV Show, DVD releases could be better!.......2007-04-16
I think Baywatch is one of these shows that got so popular in the 90s that almost every person has already seen at least one episode of it. The good thing is the first seasons of the show are really gr8 and it's really nice to have the opportunity to see them again. I was so pleased to have them released on DVD but... yep, there's a Big But! The bad thing is how the DVD sets have been released. First of all, season #s have been changed. Season 1 on DVD is actually season 2 and season 2, 3 and so on. That doesn't make any sense but let's say I can still deal w/ that now I know. However, when I realized that the opening song was not the same, I got really disappointed. I mean, come on, how's that possible? That song was one very big part of the show! It was part of its success all the way. Another thing that ticks me off is that it seems only us, US people, got s*****d! German releases are just like aired! Yes they are! Opening theme, nothing's missing... So, here's my final say: if you don't really care about those little things, you can buy the US releases, but if you are a big fan, I do suggest you get the German releases (they have English, so no worries). You might also need a Region 2 DVD player. DVD sets are a little more expensive but better to my opinion and 7 seasons have been released so far! Isn't it amazing?
A disappointment if the little things matter.......2006-11-21
I bought this season (which really should be season 3) of Baywatch episodes because I am a die hard fan of the show. However, this set of DVD's was very misleading and poorly made. If the show started in 1989, then this set is Season 3 not Season 2. The very first 2 episodes of this season which weren't on the DVDs should have been included. It was the episode where Mitch and Hobie got up to the river to go white water rafting gold country and Shauni gets kidnapped by some gold theives. Plus Eddie and Shauni get married at the very end of the 2nd episode. Very disappointing! The theme song, "I'm Always here" performed by Jim Jamison is not the title theme getting replaced by something very cheesy that doesn't even fit the show. None of the music video songs are the same because I remember every episode from that season like it was yesterday. I will buy the other boxed sets, but the only reason why is because Baywatch was my favorite television show. If First look entertainment is going to make more boxed sets, please bring the old theme song back and place some of the missing episodes on future discs or you will have more disappointed customers. I only gave this set 2 stars because it was my favorite show at the time.
its not the same but it is.......2006-11-07
the seasons are out by 1 the 1st 2 episodes are missing and the original music has been replaced. and is total off the action of the credits.
But the video and audio is good, pitty you have to wait and buy all of the 10 syndicated seasons to get the full network one, and how long until the 1st 2 episodes from pack 1 and 2 and by the looks 3,4,5 are released, or are they just going to be released as movies

The fourth season of <I>Baywatch</I> marks the first appearance of another of the series' iconic, er, figures: Yasmine Bleeth, whose Caroline Holden character (the sister of Alexandra Paul's Stephanie Holden character) became one of <I>Baywatch</I>'s most famous babes. The cast also included Pamela Anderson (C.J. Parker), Nicole Eggert (Summer Quinn), Susan Anton (Summer's mother, Jackie), and Wendie Malick (Gayle Buchannon, the ex-wife of team leader Mitch, played by star David Hasselhoff). Combining the usual water rescues and crime-fighting, plus a fair amount of personal melodrama, the fourth season included a romantic triangle among Summer, Matt (David Charvet), and surfer Jimmy Slade (Kelly Slater), a haunted hotel, the Special Olympics (guest-starring Olympic gymnast Mary Lou Retton), and a proposal to turn the team's adventures into a network series called <I>Rescue Bay</I>.
Yep, we said "fourth season." The set is entitled "season 3," but its count begins with the series' first season in syndication--season 2--so this "season 3" is actually the fourth season, broadcast in 1993-94. Included as a bonus, however, are two more episodes from the first season on NBC, "Second Wave" and "Message in a Bottle." The idea is that by the time seasons 2-11 of <I>Baywatch</I> are on DVD, the bonus episodes will form a completed season 1. In a 13-minute featurette, "Picking Up the Pieces," co-creators and executive producers Greg Bonann, Doug Schwartz, and Michael Berk discuss the challenges of shooting the show on a syndicated show's budget and early auditionees such as Leonardo DiCaprio. <I>--David Horiuchi</I>

Best of the Seasons.......2007-05-18
By the third season, the series had better scripts and improved from the first season. Only flaw is that some of the best cast comes in later during the series. Erin Gray, for example, doesn't appear until season 8. Remember Erin Gray? Buck Rogers and the 25th Century? (Though I cannot see her until season 8 is released, I do get to see her at the Mid-Atlantic Nostalgia Convention in Maryland this September.) Still, the scripts improved as the series continued and season 3 is a great starting point if you don't want to watch them in chronological order. Amazon's price is cheaper than Best Buy.
Baywatch season 3.......2007-05-12
I have always liked season three of baywatch for the reason that I always liked Matt and Summer together and this is the season that it happens. The stories are not bad at all. This is an enjoyable season to watch of baywatch.
PLEASE HELP!!.......2007-02-27
So I didn't purchase this set off Amazon (although I HIGHLY recommend them) but anyone else notice that this Season is actually Season 4 of the series (not season 3)??? I'm really hoping to get the season where Stephanie comes back to Baywatch but was that released as Season 2 then??? Anyone...please help! :) Thanks
Love it.......2007-02-15
Okay, some people are complaining because they think the picture quality is really poor. I don't know what everybody is complaining about. Today, with the new HD technology everything looks clear and really great, but you have to think about it. Baywatch was made in the early 90s before HD technology. So when you are used to watching things with clear and concise pictures, of course it is going too look not all that great.
I love Baywatch and have been since I was a kid. I am so happy that it is out on DVD and I can't wait for all seasons to come out. I already have seasons 1 and 2. As soon as I can afford it I am going to get season 3.
As far as having to buy all the seasons in order to get the true first season, it doesn't really bother me. If you are going to buy all the seasons anyway, then you really are saving money because that's one less season you have to buy.
As far as the music goes, I did love the original TV version opening and ending songs, but the show is what I really love, so I am just glad to be getting a chance to own them so I can watch them whenever I want.
As far as missing episodes go, I have all missing episodes on VHS. Sure it would be nice to have them on DVD, but we don't always get what we want.
Anyway, love the show, love the DVDs and can't wait to own them all.
I LOVED IT.......2007-02-11
i bought season 1,2 and 3 and loved them all.. all you people bitching about the music being all bad.. well what do you expect its from the late 80's and early 90's? season 3 is my favorite out of the 3 seasons out so far, but if your buying them it would help if you buy and watch them in order. I cant wait until all 11 seasons are on dvd. This was definaly worth the money!

Coming from the creators of <I>Dumb & Dumber</I> and <I>There's Something About Mary</I>, the sensitivity of <I>Shallow Hal</I> seems like a minor miracle. The codirecting Farrelly brothers haven't forsaken their lowbrow inclinations, but this clever romantic fantasy offers unexpected substance with the same comedic effrontery that made the Farrellys famous. Their antihero is Hal (Jack Black), whose fixation on beautiful women is reversed (after an encounter with self-help guru Tony Robbins) so he can see only the <I>inner</I> beauty of "undesirables" like his new girlfriend Rosemary (Gwyneth Paltrow), now gorgeous in Hal's eyes despite being grossly obese. The movie's handling of this conundrum is sweetly sincere, poking fun at social prejudices while validating those (overweight, homely, disabled) who are often heartbroken by Hal's brand of shallowness. The concept won't hold up to scrutiny (i.e., the movie trades one set of stereotypes for another), but <I>Shallow Hal</I> works as an often hilarious reminder that <I>physical</I> beauty is only skin deep. <I>--Jeff Shannon</I>

a classic from the minute it hit the screen.......2007-05-03
The plot centers around Hal, a superficial twit who, to make a long story short, is hypnotized into perceiving every new person he meets as they really are inside. To him, the appearances of others become faithful representations of their inner natures.
A surprisingly deep premise, and the script certainly doesn't stumble with it. It's just hilarious.
Unfortunately, you kind of wish the writers had gone even further. The film shows how people who are fat or ugly on the outside can be beautiful on the inside.
What would have been nice is an exploration of how people who are ugly on the inside can also be ugly on the outside, or how those who are beautiful on the outside can also be truly beautiful on the inside, two possibilities that are cleanly overlooked by the filmmakers. Instead the film suggests that the nature of everything you see is, in fact, belied by its inner reality, quite a radical philosophical assertion when you think about it.
By the way, it may interest you to know that, spurred on to moral action by this film, I decided to finally go out on a date with an enormous woman who had repeatedly expressed interest in me. For a few days, I completely overlooked her appearance and listened to her carefully, making every effort possible to discover and appreciate the person inside.
Alas! She was truly as hideous on the inside as she was on the outside. So it's back to superficiality for me.
Oh well. The point is, this movie's full of laughs. Don't forget to check out the deleted scenes.
Hilarious.......2007-04-17
Ridiculous? Offensive? Raunchy?
A slight touch of the above, but overall a sweet movie with
some excellent zingers. (-:
A very funny comedy with a serious message.......2007-02-04
Jack Black stars as Hal, a shallow, less than perfect man with high standards who only sees woman as they appear. After a chance encounter with Tony Robbins in an elevator, he is hypnotized into only seeing the inner beauty within woman. So what used to be offensive in his eyes, suddenly becomes endearing and desirable.
Hal soon learns woman who he thinks are very beautiful and sexy are the very same woman he would look at in disgust and run away from. Thinking he has some sort of sex appeal to be able to attract stunning woman, he finds himself all of a sudden attracting woman wherever he goes, until he meets Rosemary, played by Gwyneth Paltrow, whom he quickly falls in love with.
Black plays the part of Hal perfectly, superbly mixing comedy with a blend of drama. There are many messages to be picked up throughout the movie, mainly that everyone can be a little shallow and that real beauty does come from within. I was surprised to learn that this was a Farrelly brothers movie as it does stray from their usual brand of humour, but definitely in a good way as this is their most mature film to date whilst still delivering some of their comedic brilliance at the same time.
I was also surprised to learn that Black regretted ever being a part of this film and considered himself a sell-out afterward, saying that this was not the sort of film he ever wanted to make, but was just lured to the attraction of working with the Farrelly brothers.
There are negatives to this film, Paltrow's acting was very blend I'm sorry to say, but in saying that I have never been a big fan of her's and Jason Alexanders charcter became very annoying as the film played out. But I have seen this film many times and still enjoy it and will keep on enjoying it for years to come. It was a great buy and one of the most treadured DVD's in my coleection. The best Farrelly brothers film in my opinion.
Man Hating Hollywood. .......2007-01-04
The plot is of this film is built around Hal, Jack Black's character, being a "shallow" beauty obsessed man who one day finds that he is no longer capable of noticing a woman's exterior appearance. Thanks to Tony Robbins and his Neuro-Linguistic Programming, Hal can only see a woman's internal beauty. Is there any legitimacy to such a premise in the first place? Of course not. It's totally ridiculous. One reason is that obesity correlates with mental disorders like depression and obsession-compulsion. The real question is why are these individuals incapable of controlling their own behavior? It certainly isn't due to their being more picturesque "inside" than the rest of us. More importantly, Hal's true self is far deeper rather than the Robbinized one; we see the hypnotized Hal pleasing obese women everywhere while he actively working against his own interests and those of humanity. When he was categorizing women based on their physical fitness and beauty he was practicing a form of selection that allowed us to be among the most successful species on earth. His choice gave him excellent odds of mating with a women who happened to be fertile and also strong enough to survive pregnancy. Contrast this with what happened after he was placed under the conjurer's spell as his reproductive chances immediately evaporated. A porcine woman is one less likely to be fecund, and also one more likely to contract diabetes, hypertension, preeclampsia, and ovarian cancer along with producing babies who are afflicted with omphalocele and various other birth defects. There's nothing shallow about avoiding obese women. The fact is it's the height of intelligence. Such a predisposition is highly refined and highly recommended. That we have evolved to the point of castigating men who desire healthy mates is merely another indicator of society-wide misandry and our reflexive habit of condemning what is male while fawning over what is female.
The *ahem*...LESSER Farrelly film.......2007-01-03
Ok, check it out, there's two Jack Blacks. One is the guy from Tenacious D, you see him all the time. He's funny and childish and insane. Then there's the other Jack Black. He's the evil creature who pervades films like Shallow Hal and King Kong, whose only humorous lines are the ones that are funny by accident. Well, as long as you aren't fat and don't feel patronized by Gweneth presuming to know what it's like not to be desired all her life (ha), then by all means suspend all disbelief, logic, and brain power and watch this dumb movie. Gweneth's fat suit is actually pretty convincing, although most of the movie she's played by an actual fat chick...who by the way should have just been left in, without the whole "ha ha the dude thinks she's skinny" nonsense. Obviously, a film about a dude trying to cope with dating a big girl would have a lot more resonance if:
a) He weren't brainwashed
b) His fat girlfriend wasn't replaced by a twiggy blond chick
c) The movie didn't throw ridiculous concepts your way (like a guy could have sex with a 300 lb woman without realizing it)
d) Tony Robbins was in no way involved whatsoever
I knew I was slumming it when I saw this movie. But I'm not sure what the message of this film is. Jack Black's character is decent, considerate, great with kids and perfect in every way. Oh, except he's really shallow for no dicernable reason, other than his dad's dying words were for him to go out and chase tail. The weird part is that Hal's not a bad person. The movie beats you over the head showing you he's the nicest guy on on the face of the Earth, so you can't really laugh at him looking like an idiot. Rosemary is so fat she has superpowers. Her butt actually creates typhoons (I wonder if that has military applications?). Suddenly, Hal mistakes ugly pimply girls for supermodels and evil skanks for old shrews. Tony Robbins brainwashed him, the fiend! When Hal finally realizes this he decides to (ooh big spoiler) love Rosemary anyway, and learns a VALUBLE LESSON. Along the way there are a ton of cliches like people thinking he's dating Rosemary just because her dad happens to be his boss, and a sexy neighbor in his building who starts to get the hots for him when she sees how non-judgemental he is dating a fat girl ('cause that would make any woman melt). Of course there's requisite best friend, played by Jason Alexander, who is repulsed by fat people and plots to get Hal to dump her. Then again, the friend is a complete troll, so I don't know why Hal would want him around. And to insult us further, they force some burned kids on us at the hospital to strike a SERIOUS note about how true beauty is on the inside. Too...many...public...service...messages! PICK...ONE..!!
But brain-dead writing aside, Paltrow really sells her performance when they actually show her in the fat suit (despite Gweneth's postering when this film was first released). Regardless of its clumsy benevolence, I have to rate this as a romantic comedy. And for that, I give it a rating of totally unremarkable. Nice gesture, Farelly brothers. Not to be bothered with.

Customer Reviews:
Clare Kramer lifts this one.......2007-05-25
I bought this one only because I saw gravedancers and I thought Clare Kramer was good in that. I did not see the second Skulls movie, but I thought the first one was okay. (not great - just okay). This was a decent movie if you want to kill a couple hours. It is pretty predictable and the resolution is obvious early on, but it is fairly entertaining. Clare (who is in virtually the entire movie) does a good job carrying the film, although for all her character's struggles with conscience and the tragedies that have led her to this point, I thought she was kind of shallow when she got what she wanted. She was also a bit unbelievable as the most competent of the pledges trying to make it into the Skulls. She was the best man in the group. I don't see those guys as the future movers and shakers of America. Barry Bostwick was solid and the rest of the cast did a decent job. I would recommend this movie based on an interesting (if not completely original) concept, sincere acting, and a lack of bad language. I've never been one who thought that foul language just for the sake of foul language added anything to a film. It's nice when you find a film that doesn't abuse it.
[Out of Five] Not bad, Clare Kramer is fine, but..........2006-06-29
This Series is running out of steam. See
it on TV if you can, but see the first 2
in the Series first (Who's?) Barry Bostwick
[he's better in Leslie Nielsen's 'Spy Hard]
is also diabolical in here about Fraternity
boss who has plan to infiltrate his Co. into
US Military with help of CLare's father - until
killed by his son (!) at the end. Good ending!
Don't waste your time..........2006-06-11
If you're a guy, the only real highpoint of this movie is Clare Kramer, although the the character that she plays is rather self-righteous and annoying.
The thing that gets me about this movie is the fact that her character is really indignent that such sexist group like the Skulls is allowed to opperate on campus, but when they relent and allow her to joing, she has no problem with becoming a member of an elitist secret society. That's modern feminism for you, I guess.
Story wise, this movie isn't all that thrilling, and to say that it isn't predictable would would be rather deceptive. There's just nothing about this movie--aside from Claire Kramer--really worth talking about, and there is no way that I'd ever recommend it.
NUMB SKULLS.......2005-11-06
Clare Kramer's passionate and controlled performance elevates this SKULLS entry, possibly the most effective of the trilogy. She plays the daughter of a former Skulls member who challenges their "no female" rule and manages to get herself inducted into the secret covert society. As in the other two SKULLS, a murder occurs with the requisite coverup and it's up to Kramer to expose the organization. The movie has some tense moments and avoids some tired cliches of the other two. Bryce Johnson is the sleazy Roger, and his involvement in the scam is surprisingly resolved. Vets Barry Bostwick and Len Cariou round out the cast and while everything's fairly predictable, a few twists at the end are refreshing.
Oh, Don't Bother ... Just Another One with a Female Lead.......2004-12-12
Claire Kramer (TV's 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer' and one of the cheerleaders in 'Bring it On') takes the lead of this new sequel to 'The Skulls.' The story about the secret society is not much different this time though, except one thing; instead of a male, a female student delves into the underground world ruled by Barry Bostwick (TV's 'Spin City').
In fact, little difference can be found, compared with the first Skull film featuring Joshua Jackson, so it's more like a retread of the original rather than a sequel. You get a curious, and very ambitious female student in college, who because of her personal reasons is willing to be a member of the secret society. She takes no for answer, as you see, and uses her knowledge about laws to have the authority bend the rules.
And ... if you think there's more to it, you're utterly mistaken. The rest of the film goes on the beaten road, with the 'trails,' 'branding' etc., and finally you see a bloody crime committed. Though Claire Kramer is surprisingly good, the film remains so predictable and unexciting.
The first film had a curiosity value, when you see the thinly-disguised references to Yale, and the real-life Skull and Bones society, even though the film seems to have taken much liberty with the facts (whatever they may be). Now it's just another tired thriller with cliched items. If you have seen the first one, just skip this.

Death to This Movie.......2007-05-08
I decided, even after reading many of the negative reviews, to give this movie a chance. I thought that with Jaime Pressly in it, it couldn't be too bad? Man, I was wrong. The movie was just dumb. I actually prefer the off the wall type comedies, that most reviewers don't like. But this was just out there. I never really laughed, except at myself for actually spending $5 to buy the movie. It was a horrible movie, with an even worse ending. I wouldn't even spend the money to rent this crapfest. I would've given it 0 stars if I could've...
Death of The Super Models - Near Death Experience.......2007-04-11
When I watched this Movie I was thinking I was going to see totally hot Babe Supermodels. The Hotest Girl there was jamie Pressly! The story is Jamies Character gets a Chance to make her big break with the photo shoot of her life if she can get them all to agree to go on to the Island. It takes its pot shoots at the modelling world with regards to diet and pills as all these movies do. These can be the high point. The photgraphers are to gays one who is constantly jealous of the other talking to any one else. These are also a funny pair at time. This is not something you run to the video store to get. It's more like the free one you can choose when you rent the new release. Jamie Pressly is the best the way she tries to keep it all together.
Not great....could have been way funnier.......2007-01-09
This is a comedy about a group of supermodels doing a photo shoot on an island and someone starts killing them off one by one. The biggest suspect is the wannabe ex-model who is coordinating the shoot (Jamie Pressly) and has a voice in her head which talks to her. I thought the concept of the movie was funny. Who doesn't want to see a bunch of dumb, stuck-up supermodels get whacked? Other than a few laughs, the movie falls flat and resorts to fart jokes and stereotypes. It's dumb humor along the lines of 'Scary Movie' or 'Date Movie' but somehow it just doesn't have the same charm as those movies. The ending also, I found unsatisfying and it didn't make as strong of a statement as the rest of the movie. A different ending would have made it a much better movie in my opinion. The only reason I gave it three stars instead of two was because I like Jaime Pressly. Jaime is a great and very versitile actress (see Poison Ivy 3, she plays a wicked sexy psyco chick) and I think she was the one factor that made this movie watchable. She played the role of the 'perky' former model very well and I'd like to see her in more movies. Personally, I think Jaime was the hottest woman in the movie. On the upside, it's got a lot of sexy ladies in bikinis to appeal to men and women will certainly appriciate seeing a bunch of vain, shallow models get killed off. Overall, this movie was not horrid, there are just way funnier comedies out there and I reccomend watching it on cable or renting it before you buy. I might watch it again but I would not pay for it!
Ha ha.......2006-10-14
Just plain silly. Liked the beginning, very funny start. It is just a silly movie start to finish, if you don't like silly, don't buy this one.
The movie rambles and roams around never really grabbing your attention or tickling your funny bone........2006-09-23
I like every actor/actress in this movie that I know of and I really tried to like it, but if a movie ever needed gratuitous nude scenes this was the one, but alas it had but one short meaningless nude scene performed by a unknown and it was her only scene. Sadly that was one of the films highlights. Now I say that because if it had few nude scenes thrown in here and there then the film would be at least veiwable or have fleeting moments of sophmoric humor ... somewhat. It did have a plot, a very weak, very predicable plot that left no room for surprises or guess work unless perhaps you are a little challenged mentally. The surprise ending was lackluster and overall a very poor effort for those involved. It did have Taylor Negron who as a rule is pretty funny, but I'm guessing the budget on this movie was so low that they couldn't afford to pay him to talk as he played a mute and Matt Winston said all his lines. The scenes with Matt Winston (Gerd) and Taylor Negron (Gunther) offered a few chuckles, but for rest of the cast Jaime Pressly, Brooke Burns, Maria Arcé, Sung Hi Lee and others they seemed painfully out of place. Granted they are very easy on the eyes, but fall far from comedy they are trying so hard to perform. Even the quasi evil Merle played by Diane Delano who you might remember as Officer Barbara Semanski from "Northern Exposure" failed to deliver a quality performance it was for the most part her reviving her role as Semanski.
Overall the movie rambles and roams around never really grabbing your attention or tickling your funny bone. For all of it's effort to be funny it in the end falls to do so. Now for the record, I can handle a bad movie , I can handle really bad movies and I even enjoy them time to time, but somehow I doubt this movie will last long on my bad movie collection for it doesn't make it into the guilty pleasure or midnight movie class of films. Catch it on Comedy Central if you have to see it, it should be there real soon, but don't waste your money on it unless you can rent it for free.
The DVD extras are thin and not very funny, the overall transfer and sound is good but not worth the $3.00 I paid for it.
It would seem the reveiwer that said "This Movie ROCKS" has being running around to different review sites, tooting this movies horn, guess they are either in the movie or friends with someone who is, as every other reveiw sight has this film rated at 1 star or less. I know where the "Rocks" are and they are not on the screen but they are in Hollywood.

Not bad, for a sequel..........2006-09-05
This movie actually wasn't all that bad.
Very similar story to the original.
The females are a lot better looking than the ones in the first film, that's for sure.
I thought this movie might be pretty horrid, but in all actuality, it is a pretty good film.
If you liked the first movie, I think you should give this one a try. It's worth owning especially if you have the original movie.
Good story, good acting, definitly a thriller.
Could have been much worse.
Single White Female 2.........uuuhhhhhh.......2006-04-16
Holly played by Kristen Miller (She Spies, Man of the Year) has a nice career as a journalist with her friend played by Brooke Burns (Baywatch, Death of the Supermodels). The 2 of them fight over the owner of a restaurant named Zucas (I think thats close enough) runned by actor Tod Babcock (Guard Dogs, Poor White Trash). When Holly gets pissed off at her friend because she slept with Mr. Babcock she tries to find a new place to live and low and behold she finds a new shy roommate Tess, played by Allison Lange (The Hillside Strangler, Roswell). Holly becomes close to Tess and they seem to hit it off real well, until Holly finds out some things about Tess that makes her think that maybe this wasnt such a good idea. Well, in 1992, Jennifer Jason Leigh did this to Bridget Fonda and now they make a sequel about it, wow, they must of went threw tons of scripts just to get to this one. Pretty much the young girls on screen are eye candy and the acting is pretty bad plus the twists and thrills arent that great. This can go down with Basic Instinct 2....in the trash can or the skeet shoot, one of the two. Also starring Francois Giroday (Carpool Guy, Framed), Tracey McCall (Not Another Teen Movie, Second Degree), Rif Hutton (Osmosis Jones, Halfway Decent) and Kyme (School Daze, Geppetto).
Of Course It Is Not a Sequel; It's a Remake, and Pretty Bad and Unnecessary One.......2006-04-10
So Sony did it again. This time it is `Single White Female 2.' Now I want to ask you seriously. Do we really need another version of `Single White Female'? Before you answer the question, take a look at the writers' name of the film Ross Helford and Andy Hurst, both responsible for `Wild Things 2' and `Wild Things: Diamonds in the Rough.'
`SWF2' is just another direct-to-video film with almost no redeeming points except as a reminder of the original `SWF' which was not a great film, but still far better a thriller than this one. Bridget Fonda and Jennifer Jason Leigh (especially the latter) were very good, and Barbet Schroeder almost made us forget the impossible story with his camera. No such things can be found in `Single White Female 2' in which all you can see is the similar story told in a slower and clumsier fashion.
Once again we are to meet a single white female (working for PR film in NYC) Holly (Kristen Miller) who starts to live with another single white female Tess (Alison Lange). It takes some time for the new roommate to find that she is living with a very unusual girl, who hates other people's lies but can wear someone's else dress without asking and go the seedy club named `SIN' (really). Who should she do? Live with her? Leave her? Apparently Holly doesn't know the right answer, doing stupid things one after another.
But before the film gets down to business as thriller, it has to show us so many thrill-free elements that only slow the pace: Holly's job and promotion, her unfaithful (and repentant) boyfriend; her back-biting co-worker who says `Sexual manipulation is my specialty"; and so on and on. As thriller the film fails to deliver, with the predictable path it follows, not-so-effective acting from the leads, and the poorly shot scenes that do not know how to convey the thrills even as cheap ones like gore. The film makes feeble attempt to engage our attention (here I'm talking about male audiences) with some images of the ladies in underwear in vain.
The original `SWF' was not without derivative script, but had several good moments like creepy character by Jennifer Jason Leigh and that high-heel. Though it is not terrible, everything is still bland and superficial in `SWF2.'
STAY AWAY FROM THE CLASSIFIEDS.......2006-03-14
It's really not as bad as some of the other reviewers have indicated. Certainly it is derivative, and the acting is far from superior, but for a psycho roommate movie, it's passable. I must admit though that Kristen Miller's Holly is one of the stupidest people on screen, trying so hard to be everybody's friend and not smacking snidy Jan in the mouth a little more often, but hey she's the heroine. Allison Lange is the psycho, and doing her best Kirsten Dunst imitation, she is quite chilling. Brooke Barnes is perfect as the bitchy Jan, and Todd Babcock is efficient as the wayward David.
The movie's climax is admittedly under dramatic, and the ending a little ambiguous, but I have definitely seen worse.
What a flop!.......2006-02-14
This movie was not as good as the first one at all! thought the plot was not good and the acting wasn't that good either.

<I>--Jeff Shannon</I>
Description
A hypnotized playboy (Jack Black) who can only see "inner beauty" doesn't realize that his gorgeous girlfriend (Gwyneth Paltrow) is actually a 300-pound-not-so-hottie. "Heartwarming and hilarious" (WFLD-TV), it's the BIGGEST love story ever told!
Customer Reviews:
a classic from the minute it hit the screen.......2007-05-03
Not to be bothered with.

long live bad movies.......2005-09-25
This is one of the best terrible movies I have ever seen. How can you go wrong with a movie that features a scene where a giant cheerleader zord battles a giant catholic reform school girl zord with a giant dildo? I ask you. The dilogue is bad, the acting worse, but there are lots of gratuitous boobs. This is definitely a so-bad-its-great movie
ALL YOU GUYS SUCK SO HARD!!!!!!!.......2005-07-23
If you don't like this movie then forget it ever existed, why bother writing a reveiw huh? This movie is awesome! Sure it's not "American Pie" or whatever type of crap Hollywood garbage that you're used to...but that's what's so great about it. This guy probably got a little, cheap-ass, dollar store digi-cam and made this in his basement (now...if you've seen the movie then you'll most likely be thinking of the nerdy dudes 'Enterprise bridge' closet under the stairway, kinda cardboard hideout right about now) I mean seriously and honestly what's not to like about this film? Cheerleaders?...Ninjas?...Star Trek obsessed geeky types?...Flamboyantly gay arch nemises?...Catholic school girl minions?...(Yes, there are boobies too. Lots of them!..for no apparent reason even!)
The fight scenes are ridiculously entertaining (I challenge you not to laugh outloud at them, nay, I dare you! if not for just they're low, low budget pathetic-ness) So in conclusion, ignore everybody elses reveiw before me and take my word for it that this film may well have been the best to come out of the relative movie draught of 2003 (or whenever the hell it was made)
Why would anyone even rent this?.......2004-07-01
I've never seen the film, I don't have to.
All I know is I'm sick of these White trash losers coming
into my video store and renting this crap.
If you like this movie or have a strong desire to rent it, then you ARE white trash and retarded! GET THE HELL OUT OF MY STORE!!!
Yuck.......2004-05-06
The other night, I watched Cheerleader Ninjas. Now, don't think I ever considered the possibility this could be a good movie. No, I knew it would be bad, but I was hoping it would fit into the so-bad-it's-good category.
It doesn't.
Instead, it fits squarely into the it's-so-bad-it's-awful category.
Cheerleader Ninjas is a story about a flamingly-gay teacher at a Catholic reform school who wants to get revenge on a cheerleader troupe in a nearby high school. It would seem he was refused admittance to their team. So he gets a group of reformed Catholic prostitutes to beat the crap out of the cheerleaders. The cheerleaders retaliate by getting martial arts training and reluctantly join forces with the local nerds. Terrible fight scenes, gratuitous nudity, and a giant robot/dildo battle ensue.
The only thing this movie has going for it are the boobs, and that just doesn't float my boat. There are better movies out there with boobies, and it's frightening to think that Corey Haim and Corey Feldman flicks are some of these better movies.
The apparent film budget would have been just enough to rent a few of 'em, too, and maybe get a couple of six-packs, while the director was at it
Icky Poo.......2004-02-29
You know when something is so bad that it is good? Well this one just stopped at bad. Some films are campy on purpose others are campy by accident or circumstance; this film is neither, it needs tossing on the campy fire. No structure, no story and no social redeeming themes or scenes.
The basic story; oh there is none. The dialog is, well, deplorable. Now there is a scene of a depantylated cheerleader that looks slightly better than Kathy Bates I "About Schmidt" (2003) but just barely. Looks like the film revolves around this sort of thing.
