This three-disk compilation includes as many home videos of kids and animals as you could ask for, including baboons breaking into a car, a frog climbing on a baby's head, a dog peeing on a bride's gown, several videos of kangaroos and wallabies kicking people in the groin (there's a whole subgenre of people being hit or bitten in the groin by balls, goats, geese, etc.), an orangutan trying to tongue-kiss a giggling girl, a bicyclist being pursued by a giraffe, and so much more. And let's face it, lowbrow though it may be, a lot of these videos <I>are</I> funny; when a cat leaps out of the bushes like an attack commando and lands smack on a toddler's face, it's just funny. It's also worth noting that <I>America's Funniest Home Videos</I> is the most racially integrated show on television, thanks to the democracy of home-video technology.<BR> <BR> Aside from the sheer volume of video clips, <I>The Best of Kids & Animals</I> contrasts the styles of former host Bob Saget and current host Tom Bergeron. Saget was a deeply conflicted man: In his eyes lurks a mixture of self-loathing that he'd stooped so low and glee that he was being paid to do something so completely effortless. By now a television institution, ABC's <I>America's Funniest Home Videos</I> has been on the air since 1989 and seen a number of hosts come and go. Comedian-actor Bob Saget, perhaps, is still a favorite of many of the show's longtime fans--he was the series' host during its first seven years. The post-Saget <I>America's Funniest Home Videos</I> was re-launched a couple of times, with different performers introducing funny video clips sent in by the public. This four-disc set, volume 1, is the first season of the Tom Bergeron years, a comic who took over host duties in 2001.

Other than a new face from time to time, <I>Videos</I> is essentially the same show it's always been. Clips are procured and loosely organized around various themes: pets, sports, kid antics, accidents, disasters, displays of machismo that backfire. Once in a while one has to wonder what the producers are thinking: Images of toddlers being terrified by some idiot in a scary costume, or a guy hit in the teeth with a golf ball, or an animal frantically trying to remove a discarded paper cup or bag covering its head are only funny to sadists. For the most part, however, the goofy stuff that gets caught on home video (and ends up on millions of American television sets) is wholesome proof that slapstick isn't just for professional clowns. Among the best moments in the 12 complete episodes in this collection is the extraordinary sight of a very small child standing in a stream and casually scooping an enormous carp from the water; a civic awards ceremony in which the recipient accidentally knocks a dignitary into a lake; and a crowded swimming pool party in which the pool (one of those assembly-required, metal frame jobs) falls apart. There's also the weird sight of baseball-size hail assaulting some poor lad out in a rowboat; a dog that pulls the pajama bottoms off a little boy while the latter's dad swings the kid by his arms; and a pair of do-it-yourself home-repair types knocking down a wall by throwing a bowling ball through it repeatedly. Disc 4 contains a two-part celebration of <I>America's Funniest Home Videos</I>' 300th episode, spotlighting some of the series' greatest hits. Among them is a dog who picks up a fireworks launcher while it's still spewing sparks; and the kid who whacks his brother with a freshly caught fish only to have the affronted sibling push him into a bucket containing the day's catch. They never seem to tire of crazy antics that take place on AFV. I keep it in the van and they watch them there. It is nice to have laughter coming from the back seat instead of whining and fighting :)

I love this collection!!! I realize that there are some people out there that can be turned off by some of the content, however this is a great collection from the Bergeron years (the best). What I like best about this DVD set is it is a broken into each individual show rather than conbining several of them together. This is why I call it the best traveling DVD ever, your kids can watch it on short trips or they can put in for the long haul. Maybe I am a too easily entertained but I could watch this over and over without getting tired of it. The only content that I sometimes have problems watching are the groin hits, bratty kids, and baby spit-up montage. However, that's life and thats what makes it funny. You gotta relate to some of these situations and laugh because you felt it too or yes maybe even you have been thrown up on a few times by your kids. Your kids will love this DVD and us parents can laugh right along with them, its good to show them that its alright to screw up and make a fool of yourself sometimes. The only complaint I have is that by containing about a seasons worth of videos, a 100,000 dollar show, and a 300th episode special there will be a few repeats between them. Buy this set and it will make your car trips easier!!! You may however feel the urge to look in the backseat and see what your kids are laughing at, but remember: RESIST THE URGE!!!

This is the most pointless show ever. Seeing baby's fart and dogs biting crotches and people degrading themselves by making themselves look like complete dumbasses is funny? Have the brains of America been THIS simplified? This is a show that belongs on MTV- it has all of the traits an MTV show has: it's pointless, it's pointless, umm... It's pointless... And, well, it's pointless! If you wan t a show with humor (not to steal anything from Danny), watch the Simpson- the funniest show ever along with Family Guy. Why would anyone want to watch a show about people acting like complete idiots? MTV Rocks, maybe.

        Angela Jones is terrific as the big-eyed, gum popping Gabriela who's been obsessed with bizarre deaths since she was a skinny little gum-popping girl. Now an adult, she still collects articles about grisly deaths and decides to work for a "cleaning company" in order to get an insight and thrill cleaning up after murders and messy deaths. She's terrific with her slightly prim flowered dresses and fascinated nodding as she listens to gory details. Billy Baldwin is funny and charming as the boyishly handsome serial killer who first woos, then stabs his rich victims. Daisy Fuentes and Mel Gorham, a terrific and underused actress (Smoke and Blue in the Face--Oggy's girlfriend), have bits as Gabriela's coworkers.

        This is a dark, dark comedy. Not because it's ironic or mean spirited in the way that Friends and Neighbors is or In the Company of Men, but because of the plot and subject matter; you find yourself liking the killer and laughing about people dying and Gabriela's slightly fetishized fascination. I think the film's a gem, but, there you go. There was one point in the film where, though amused, I was slightly queasy. If you are squeamish and don't think there could ever be anything remotely funny about serial killers, then I'd skip this one. If you collect Dia de los Muertos figurines and think the macabre is interesting and entertaining, then you might agree with Gabriela--death can be funny, creepy, absurd and interesting. This is one of the films on my "enjoys dark comedies" meter, along with The Last Seduction and Goodbye Lover.

        If you do get it, don't forget to watch through the credits--funny bit at the end that I missed the first time. And if you aren't a huge Tarantino fan, don't be put off by his introduction to the film, credit where credit is do--the guy was instrumental in getting the film made and you can always fastforward.

        Ive been waiting for this to hit dvd for awhile,Ever since I watched the vhs I was hooked.This thing aint for everyone thats for sure.You gotta have a dark sense of humor or just hang it up and watch something else.The dvd is fully loaded.It has:the short film it was based on,deleted scenes,commentary,plus a gallery,tv ads,a kelly preston tv show,plus alot more.its a shame there arent more people who know about this great flick.

        This is the same fun, quirky black comedy that all the other reviews mention. Thankfully, the DVD is letterboxed, and has truly extensive special features; among them:

        * Commentary by the director and producer (co-writers Reb Braddock and John Maass),
        * a making-of featurette complete with brief interviews with cast and crew,
        * the 30 minute short film that caught Quentin Tarantino's attention at a film festival in Italy,
        * the even shorter 'Baby Curdled' - a film school directing project by John Maass,
        * an extensive photo gallery mostly consisisting of candid shots of the cast and crew,
        * deleted scenes and an alternate ending,
        * the original theatrical trailer,
        * by far the coolest interactive menu - watch for the fly!
        * the commercials and made-for-tv movie that are seen in the film,
        * the 'dance of death' rehearsal - you have got to see this!
        * probably more than I'm not recalling

        Most features have an introduction/explanation by director Reb Braddock.

        2 out of 5 stars SMILY-FACE BLACK COMEDY CAN'T DISGUISE THAT IT'S A DUD........2003-11-29

        This is a Tarantino movie. He didn't write or direct it, but executive-produced it. Surely must have been a blooper, because although it wallows in blood (don't all of his endeavours, predictably?) and scrambles to put a "just kidding" face on its darker impluses (don't all of his endeavours, again?), it never quite manages to emerge as a coherent or compelling film.

        Angela Jones (the taxi driver in Pulp Fiction if you recall) is a Columbian in California smitten with murders. She takes up a job as a cleaning maid, not your ordinary maid but with a niche-business company that cleans up messes on crime scenes. On one of those scenes, she meets up with a real psychopath killer -- played with as straight a face as possible by Billy Baldwin -- who likes to hack women for dessert.

        Intriguing pretext. Unfortunately, the actual movie while neat in bits and parts, is overall quite a boring fare. Jones, the ever so murky maid, has a grating type of naivette about her which is funny probably to people who like to see their women cutesy and hyper-melodramatic, but is annoying to me.

        Not sure why this dud was produced. But sounds like with the likes of Kill Bill Quentin may well be developing a real taste for such gore which, if unsuccessful, can be shrugged off under the garb of "oh, it was a black comedy" or a spoof or some such weak-kneed toss-off.

        (P.S. The movie goes by the name of "Fetish" in Japan)

        If you like the show AFHV, then you'll enjoy the bits on this tape. The big drawback is the sound and picture quality. The whole tape is like a home movie with the narration a little garbled. It is watchable and funny, but not as finished a product as you see on tv.

          This has Giselle with Daisy on an outside basketball course doing the cardio portion. This is mostly old style aerobics. I was very disappointed that there was only 1 cha-cha & samba portion of a larger straight aerobics routines & only for 3 seconds each time done. I got this because I LOVE Giselle... she is so young here. She teaches in slow tempo first to show you how a few times, then full tempo.
          Next is the weights portion on a platform in someone's very expensive backyard pool osasis (Daisy's? The directors?) with hand weights. After is using a chair for some simple leg lifts and working on the mat for basic ab crunches, reverse sit ups, etc. It ends with a nice stretch of the neck, back, etc. with some yoga poses & basic stretches.
          In addition, Daisy teaches you about diet tips & takes you on a informative w/humor trip through the supermarket complete with comedy music.
          This is great for someone who is new to exercise or for a light day of doing it all: aerobics/weights/abs/stretch.

          This video does not work up to breaking a sweat. It is for the extreme beginner who wants an introduction to working out. They go over the steps too slow and do not spend enough time actually working out. The dance steps are simple and few. I bought this video because it was recommended as a dance video. It has your typical workout moves and two very basic latin dance steps. It is a slow going work out video that does not keep you engaged.

          Daisy Fuentes provides an excellent, upbeat, high energy workout for people at all levels of physical fitness. The use of upbeat Latin music compliments the Latin dances moves that are cleverly cherographed into the routine and provides the viewer with the motivation to keep going. The length of the actual workout is about 35-40 minutes, which is perfect for those of us who have busy lives. The video also stresses a change in lifestyle and supports it with a segment on how to eat healthy and enjoy yourself at the same time. Daisy's trainer, Giselle, can be a bit annoying, but trust me, the payoff is worth it. So, order this and get TOTALLY FIT!!!....hey, if you have a husband, brother, boyfriend, etc. around while you do this, they won't mind watching Daisy either!
