Growing up can be a confusing journey fraught with difficult choices. Boog (Martin Lawrence) is a domesticated Grizzly Bear who leads a perfectly happy life inside of Park Ranger Beth's (Debra Messing) garage, but a chance meeting with an overly energetic mule deer named Elliot (Ashton Kutcher) quickly changes everything and lands Boog high in the forest a few days before the opening of hunting season. Devoid of even the most basic survival skills, Boog and Elliot stumble through the woods and find themselves at the mercy of every forest animal from skunks to chipmunks as well as an evil hunter named Shaw (Gary Sinise). After unintentionally inciting and endangering an entire forest full of clever animals, Boog and Elliot come to the realization that only by banding together do the forest animals stand a chance of outsmarting the hunters and ensuring their own survival. </br>

This first animated film from Sony Pictures Animation takes its inspiration from cartoonist Steve Moore <link2><url type="asin" value="0446679348"/><link2-body>(<I>In the Bleachers</I>)</link2-body></link2> and features animals with human-like intelligence, a vibrant color palate, and skilled animation that makes everything from the wind blowing Boo's fur to the animals' wild trip down the falls simply breathtaking. While it doesn't quite live up to <link2><url type="asin" value="B000H7JCK0"/> <link2-body><I>Over the Hedge</I></link2-body></link2>, <I> Open Season</I> is an entertaining production that explores the difficult process of maturation, the universal need for acceptance, and the true value of friendship. Special features include a 15-minute featurette about the animation process at Sony Pictures Animation and Image Works, a 7-minute look at the recording sessions featuring the voices behind the characters, two deleted scenes, three short animated cartoon strips, a short "Boog and Elliot's Midnight Bun Run" that's an extension of the trailer scene in the movie, art gallery, beat boards, humorous commentary from the animals' point of views, and a full length commentary by Producer Michelle Murdocca, Directors Roger Allers and Jill Culton, and others. Activities include a "Voice-A-Rama" where viewers can hear specific lines spoken by alternate voices and a trivia "Wheel of Fortune--Forest Edition" as well as a DVD-ROM link to more online fun. Product Description

In Open Season, the odd are about to get even. Boog (Martin Lawrence), a domesticated grizzly bear with no survival skills, has his perfect world turned upside down when he meets Elliot (Ashton Kutcher) a scrawny, fast-talking mule deer. When Elliot convinces Boog to leave his cushy home in a park ranger's garage to try a taste of the great outdoors, things quickly spiral out of control. Relocated to the forest with open season only three days away, Boog and Elliot must acclimate in a hurry. They must join forces to unite the woodland creatures and take the forest back.

    Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Plenty of fun and laughs for the entire family.......2007-06-08

Plenty of laughs and some really impressive animation make Open Season a film that just about anyone, young or old, will enjoy watching. The only problem is the fact that it really has nothing to make it stand out from the crowd. Boog and Elliot are great characters, but they just remind me a little too much of Shrek and Donkey, and Martin Lawrence and Ashton Kutcher are pale imitations of Mike Myers and Eddie Murphy. I actually had a little trouble with the voices. Sometimes Boog sounded like Martin Lawrence, and sometimes he didn't; on the other hand, Elliot never sounded very much like Ashton Kutcher to me (which is actually a good thing). The two make for a good team, but the chemistry between them doesn't always seem to come naturally. The supporting cast of voice actors is pretty impressive, though. It's always a kick to hear Georgia Engel's unique voice, but Billy Connolly absolutely steals the whole show time and time again as the voice of McSquizzy, the leader of the squirrels (who is always itching for a fight).

Boog is a grizzly bear living the life of an ursine Riley, having been raised by Park Ranger Beth (Debra Messing). Then a deer named Elliot, desperate to escape the clutches of an evil hunter (Gary Sinise) shows up, and he has a rather destabilizing effect on Boog's life. Suddenly, Boog finds himself rooted out of his idyllic, pampered existence and left in the forest to survive on his own. It doesn't go well, as he and Elliot find themselves chastised and laughed at by all manner of woodland creatures (especially McSquizzy and the squirrels). Then things take an even more dramatic turn for the worst, as hunting season officially opens. Eventually, Boog faces the most obvious of moral choices: return home on his own to try and reclaim his old life of leisure or turn around and help the other animals band together and fight the hunters at their own game.

Don't expect any real surprises with the story, as it plays out pretty much according to formula. That's okay; after all, the old formula still works pretty effectively. You won't bust a gut laughing, but you will laugh. The film also imparts good lessons on friendship and teamwork, which is another mark in its favor. I just hope the film helps to inspire at least a few young people not to become hunters when they grow up.

5 out of 5 stars Kids love it!.......2007-06-04

My little girl loves Cinderella, so this was just a bonus for her. Would buy again.

4 out of 5 stars BETTER THAN I EXPECTED! FUNNY!.......2007-05-26

Alright.... I know they're churning out these CGI eye candy animation fest like there's no tomorrow, but truth is, this is a pretty darn good animated flick with some very funny characters. The DVD looks great and there are quite a few extras. If you like animated films, go for it! You won't be disappointed.

    4 out of 5 stars Ok, ok............2007-05-18

Pretty cool movie! Kinda funny....but don't know if I will watch it over and over again or anything. Bought out of curiosity....fun kids movie!

    5 out of 5 stars Don't forget your family........2007-05-15

I buy these movies for my grandchildren and they enjoy them so much. It makes them remember that it is fun to have friends but remember you also have family that is just as important. This makes it so clear to kids.

If you're a fan of the frazzled comic rhythms Debra Messing plies on <I>Will & Grace</I>, or if you're pre-sold on the concept of Dermot Mulroney as the world's most dashing heartthrob--an idea given ample evidence here--this escapist romance may provide just enough distraction. <I>The Wedding Date</I>'s <I>Pretty Woman</I>-in-reverse plot finds Kat Kat Ellis (Messing) hiring expensive male escort Nick Mercer (Mulroney) to fly to London and pose as her dashing new boyfriend at her sister's wedding so she can face the best man, an ex-fiancé who broke her heart. Non-fans of the stars or romantic comedies in general beware: there's no real chemistry or conflict, and you should alert the media if you can determine exactly when and why Kat and Nick fall in love. Mulroney has nothing to do but be sensitively suave--the film's entire running time is spent waiting for Kat to realize that Nick, hooker or no, is the best thing that ever happened to her (her father may be cinema's first dad to ever encourage his daughter to snare a gigolo while she still can). This is a relatively painless but forgettable first <I>Date</I>; you probably won't need a second assignation.<I>--Steve Wiecking</I>

    Customer Reviews:

    5 out of 5 stars Wonderful Movie.......2007-05-29

I bought The Wedding Date because of the music. It is wonderful. It is a very well done movie and one people can relate to. Debra Messing is one of my favorite actresses and Dermot Mulroney is so handsome and has become one of my favorite actors.

3 out of 5 stars no happy face.......2007-05-15

the packaging was as usual but on the first play, it began freezing at the same place. I viewed it on my computer media player, 4 month old computer which I clean and maintain every week.

4 out of 5 stars Oh, Grow Up!!.......2007-05-14

I started watching this DVD several times before I could finally move past Debra Messing's childish portrayal of an embarassing, victim of a grown woman. Once I did--it really wasn't so bad. Great supporting character roles, plus writing that portrays how really dreadful some families can be to their offspring and best of all-- Delmot Mulroney acting like the only reasonable(and gorgeous) adult in the entire film.
Watching him inhabit his character creates a pleasant and believeable fantasy world--just imagine if cool, caring guys were available out there to safely rent. This is a perfect movie to complete house chores and be entertained while still accomplish something else.

5 out of 5 stars My favorite movie........2007-05-08

I am not a chic flic movie kind of person but I have literally watched this movie over 20 times. I LOVE THIS MOVIE!!!!!

    3 out of 5 stars So-so.......2007-04-28

This movie was so-so for the chic flicks. Neither overly offensive nor great. The plot was a bit unbelievable; Kat, the injured, victimized by her ex-fiance woman, hires a male escort and they fall in love. She's obviously not a strong enough woman to face her family and friends without someone hot - yet she was strong enough to rent one. There didn't seem to be much development of the romance, they were just together and someone fell for each other. There was also too much "sleeping with the wrong people" syndrome - though that was off stage.

A lot of the scenes seemed they were missing something - perhaps depth or development of character or plot. This movie seemed just on the edge of being something great, but not quite doing it. Fine if you want something light to watch, but probably not something that you'll invite your friends over to watch with you.

Keanu Reeves is completely wooden in this romantic misfire by Alfonso Arau (<I>Like Water for Chocolate</I>). Reeves plays a World War II vet who hits the road as a traveling salesman and agrees to help a desperate, pregnant woman (Aitana Sanchez-Gijon)--who is afraid to let her father (Giancarlo Giannini) see her condition--by pretending to be her husband. Most of the story takes place in the old man's vineyard, and Arau makes a life of swollen fruit, grape-stomping, sunlight, and tan flesh that looks amazingly erotic. But there are plenty of sillier distractions, such as the sight of farm hands chasing insects with flapping gossamer wings attached to their arms. Reeves is terribly self-conscious, while stalwart Anthony Quinn is memorable as the damsel's benevolent grandfather. <I>--Tom Keogh</I>

    Description

After returning from World War II, a young G.I. (Keanu Reeves) finds he has little in common with the wife he left behind. Disillusioned, he heads north to work as a travelling salesman where he meets the daughter (Aitana Sanchez-Gijon) of a wealthy vineyard owner (Giancarlo Giannini). On her way home, she is unmarried and pregnant. The young man gallantly offers to help by posing as her husband for one night, unaware that doing so will change both of their lives forever.

5 out of 5 stars Beautiful! They don't make them like this anymore........2007-06-10

Do not pay attention to all those negative comments. This movie is simply a delight to watch. The story, the photography and the music are simply beautiful. I've watched it several times and continue to enjoy it. The spreading of the heat on the grapes with the butterfly-like wings and the grape stumping are my favorite scenes.

    5 out of 5 stars Great Movie.......2007-06-02

Hubby saw this 1st and then insisted I watch too! Glad I did!! It is an excellent movie, despite views posted by others. It has depth, great photography and just a general all around GREAT movie. I loved it!

    5 out of 5 stars Absolutely fantastic.......2007-05-18

The first time I watched this movie was at the theater. I thought the scenery had been painted. After all, no where on earth looks like that, right? Then I went to Napa for myself and, surprise!

I watch this movie a few times every year. The scenery is beautiful but so is the story. What orphan wouldn't want to be part of this wine-producing family? The grandfather is the star of the movie in my opinion. The female lead is luminous. Keannu's understated performance is well-suited to the character of a veteran shell-shocked from war and finding out that his war bride didn't care enough to read all the letters he sent her during the war.

If you want to know the definition of chivalry, watch and learn.

One of my two favorite movies of all time. I suddenly feel like going home, turning out the lights, snuggling up to my wife on the couch, and watching this work of art another time! I suggest you do the same.

    5 out of 5 stars So Romantic!.......2007-05-17

This movie is so romantic. Keanu Reeves is gorgeous. The Mexican family in this movie is such a treat to watch. I love the family dynamics and the fact that poor Keanu has no family and he wants to belong. The scenery of the vynard is spectacular.

5 out of 5 stars Wonderful Love Story...........2007-04-28

Keanu Reeves is a World War II veteran and a traveling salesman on a bus when he meets a pregnant woman (Aitana Sanchez-Gijon) on her way to Napa Valley to help her family with the grape harvest. She needs someone to pretend to be her husband at her family's vineyard, the ex-soldier agrees. However, her father can sense something is not right about the story and tries to prove that his daughter is hiding the real truth.

This movie is a mystical romance based on a 1942 Italian film of the same name.

I really enjoyed this movie...although it did bring tears to my eyes.

</br>

Opposites are forced to attract in <I>Along Came Polly</I>, a dose of featherweight fluff that could've been better and could've been worse--surely no pairing of Ben Stiller and Jennifer Aniston can be a complete waste of time, right? Faint praise indeed, but fans of these mainstream funny-folk will enjoy this movie as a lazy-weekend distraction. Ben's a newlywed insurance risk-assessment analyst whose wife (Debra Messing, in a throwaway role) betrays him on their honeymoon. His uptight, play-it-safe lifestyle (which includes acute aversion to germs and irritable bowel syndrome) makes him seemingly incompatible with the spontaneous, free-spirited Polly (Aniston), but writer-director John Hamburg (whose writing credits include the previous Stiller hits <I>Meet the Parents</I> and <I>Zoolander</I>) is determined to give them at least the <I>appearance</I> of romantic potential. No such luck. You will, however, get a few laughs from supporting players Philip Seymour Hoffman, Bryan Brown, and Alec Baldwin. <I>--Jeff Shannon</I>

3 out of 5 stars Not a bad flick; good for a laugh........2007-06-21

I have always been a fan of Ben Stiller since I first saw him, and he always seems to be good for a laugh, no matter how bad the actual movie itself may be.

With that being said, I do want to say one thing, Ben Stiller and Jennifer Aniston have NO chemistry on screen; I mean absolute zero chemistry together! Stiller and Debra Messing however, do have pretty good chemistry together and I think having them as a couple for a bit longer would have been better.

The movie does have its laughs and in my opinion is worth a rent or two. The blind ferret, as many have said does steal the screen when present and also provides nice comic relief. The scuba instructor for me, was thje funniest part, as the accent is absolutely hilarious.

As I mentioned, its good for a rent and some good cheesy laughs, but the lack of chemistry between Stiller and Aniston really dampens the whole movie. I'm not a big fan of Aniston myself and maybe I'm just being a bit biased, but I believe it was her portrayel of her character that made the whole thing a bit forced and fake.

5 out of 5 stars Ben and Jennifer are a cute couple.......2007-03-18

This movie is very funny and Ben and Jennifer look great being together instead of Ben and Debra and I adore Jennifer's ferret who is blind. I am a huge fan of Jennifer and my BF is a huge fan of Ben so what does that tell you??!! 5 stars for this movie!!

4 out of 5 stars Ben Stiller Fans Should Give it A Try.......2007-03-05

I love this movie and it is more than I hoped it would be. The biggest problem I had with the movie is that Philip Seymour Hoffman felt really out of place in this movie and did a really bad Jack Black imitation. The entire time, he acts just like Jack Black, it is almost if Jack turned down the role that was written for him. If you are a fan of Ben Stiller, you need to see this movie because I couldn't stop laughing and I have a feeling that it will be the same for you. I've seen this movie many times and it is still as funny as the first time I watched it. Overall, maybe not as good as some of his other films, but still really funny.

3 out of 5 stars expected more from this film.......2007-01-28

After watching a few trailers I felt I had to see it for myself as it looked so witty, quaint, charming and enjoyable. I was wrong. Although humorous in parts it only just cracked a smile, which is a shame because it could have been better.

I love Jennifer Aniston and Ben Stiller and I can't explain why this combination didn't work, but it really didn't. Perhaps it was the chemistry between them? Or maybe it was the weak storyline and bad jokes? It is worth a rental, but please don't waste money on buying this DVD.

3 out of 5 stars Subscribers of Non-Threatening Romantic Comedies will like it.......2007-01-09

I caught this film while channel surfing after I'd finished "My Super Ex-Girlfriend" on Pay Per View. After watching a few minutes I thought, these are the same characters.

If Uma Thurman's G-girl didn't have any powers in "Ex-Girlfriend" she'd be a lot like Jennifer Aniston's ferret-loving Polly Prince. Ben Stiller plays a risk assessor for an insurance agency who's just as dorky and introverted as Luke Wilson's "Super Ex" architect. And instead of Rainn Wilson ("The Office") as the boorish best friend dishing out bad relationship advice, "Polly" has Philip Seymore Hoffman ("Capote") as a washed-up child-star slob, egging Stiller to slap Aniston's rear during sex and ask "Who's your daddy?" It's this exchange that sets up the film's conflict: Aniston, repulsed by the comment, boots him out of her apartment. Stiller then has to learn to see Polly through his own eyes and prove his love before he loses her in the third act.

"Along Came Polly" is as safe, generic and cut-and-paste as a romantic comedy can be. Surprising, since director/screenwriter John Hamburg provided plenty of laughs in "Meet the Parents," and "Zoolander" was at least somewhat original, if a little stinky. That's not to say "Polly" isn't beyond repair: there are several amusing sight gags involving Aniston's blind ferret and Stiller's indigestion; Aniston and her salsa instructor give Stiller several opportunities to make light of his inadequacies (something he's a master at). Bryan Brown ("FX") is entertaining as Stiller's potential insuree, an Austrailian millionaire who also happens to be an extreme sports enthusiast. And Hoffman gave me a lot of laughs when he tried to be the lead instead of Judas in the Hell's Kitchen community theater version of "Jesus Christ Superstar."

So, "Along Came Polly" is worth a shot if you catch it on TV, but ultimately forgettable. Actually, the soundtrack is better than the movie, though it's still nothing to swoon over.

Described by director Mark Pellington as "a psychological mystery with naturally surreal overtones," <I>The Mothman Prophecies</I> begins like an ambitious episode of <I>The X-Files</I>. Richard Gere brings adequate torment, portent, and ambiguity to his role as a Washington Post reporter and grieving widower plagued by a mysterious, unseen urban legend known as the Mothman. Pellington develops subtle doom and gloom that's as effective as the paranoid streak he brought to <I>Arlington Road</I>. As the Mothman terrifies a West Virginia town, he remains an enigma, glimpsed almost subliminally. This--along with a magnificently creepy soundtrack--amplifies the movie's surreal overtones while keeping everything else (unsettling phone calls, prophesied disasters, suggestions of the afterlife) completely unexplained. With Laura Linney and Debra Messing in underdeveloped roles, <I>The Mothman Prophecies</I> feels a bit underdeveloped itself (and ends in desperate need of Mulder and Scully). But if you like your weirdness open-ended, this moody thriller's worth a look. <I>--Jeff Shannon</I>

4 out of 5 stars Heads are spinning.......2007-05-15

Richard Gere plays a husband who can't figure out how his life was suddenly turned upside down by an unidentified, winged creature in this Science Fiction/Thriller. When his wife sees a strange image that causes her car accident, husband and wife are both haunted by an entity that appears to have 'noticed it's been noticed'. The question is, what does this entity plan to do about it and why? Gere stars as a reporter who must seek the answers to these strange questions, but in doing so will he destroy his own sanity?

    3 out of 5 stars Slow-Moving But Decent.......2007-02-01

I liked The Mothman Prophecies but I think it was a mistake to try to tie this movie in as much as it was with the hysterical tall tales that arose after the Silver Bridge collapse at Kanauga, Ohio/Point Pleasant, West Virginia in December 1967. In doing that, filmmakers unintentionally detracted from their genuinely eerie plot and instead left themselves open to constant, kvetching criticism that "none of that happened!" Of course it didn't. This is a movie. Duh. Leaving all that behind, The Mothman Prophecies is a fun film to watch even if it could have sped its pace up a bit. The "Chap Stick" scene was one part giggly funny and three parts chills down your back spooky, and it was little moments like those that made the supernatural elements work when they could easily have been overpowered by the investigative overtones that held the story together. I also felt the entire movie was somehow a subtle homage to The X-Files, with Richard Gear coming close to playing up on the old "Wow, David Duchovny looks like him" talk, but he was ultimately so upstaged by Laura Linney's performance that it's easy to miss that. This is a good movie but not a classic. It's well worth seeing once or twice, and it will probably give susceptible people the creeps. Not quite four stars but a little better than three.

4 out of 5 stars Does The Future Already Exist ?.......2007-01-28

This story gets involved with the issue of 'precognition' which is the ability of someone (or some 'thing' in this case) to be able to see and foretell the future.

    This is an interesting subject.

Some people believe that it is possible not only to see other times but to travel there physically.

One theory is if you travel back in time and for example kill your parents we wouldn't notice the effect of your actions in this time but you would have created an alternate history. A 'parrallel' time.

What does this mean ? I have no idea.

But it raises the question of how can it be possible to see the future unless the future already exists in some form ? Otherwise it wouldn't be possible to see the future now because something could happen to change it.

This is all far beyond human comprehension but anyway the hero of this story is involved with some sort of force or creature who can predict the future.

The creature has been interacting with the population of a small town using telephones, visions, dreams, apparitions, etc.. The usual bridges to other dark dimensions.

But the moth man creature never comes out and says exactly what's going to happen. It just gives small clues and glimpses. That's where the 'adventure' comes in.

The opening credits indicate the story is based on actual events. Doing that in and of itself creates problems with this type of story.

Like many horror / new age type movies this story walks a fine line between being suspenseful and being utterly rediculous.

Supposedly the mysterious Great Pyramid tells the destiny of our human race encoded in the markings on the walls inside the pyramid.

Perhaps our future is really 'written in stone'.

    3 out of 5 stars It's All a Bit Muddled........2007-01-24

I've never read the novel that THE MOTHMAN PROPHECIES is based upon. I am, however, familiar with the events that took place between November 1966 and December 1967 in Point Pleasant, West Virginia. I first heard about The Mothman when I was in the second grade and read a book about monsters in the United States. The story scared me so much that for days I had nightmares and was afraid of looking out of windows. I soon conquered my fear, but in doing so, forgot about Mothman. That was until I saw a special about the creature and Point Pleasant on the Sci-Fi channel a couple years ago. It was through that show that I learned a movie, THE MOTHMAN PROPHECIES had been made about the events surrounding the 1966-1967 events in Point Pleasant. I finally got around to watching the movie recently.

The movie takes place in a modern setting and revolves around a man named John Klein (Richard Gere), a successful journalist for the Washington Post. John and his wife Mary (Debra Messing) finally find and agree to purchase their dream home. On their way home after the meeting, Mary sees a winged creature with red eyes jump at her and swerves off the road onto a sidewalk. John is fine, but Mary sustains a severe head wound which leads doctors to discovering a tumor in her brain. Not long after, she dies.

Two years later, John is driving out of D.C. and in less than two hours discovers that somehow he's traveled over 400 miles and is outside the town of Point Pleasant, West Virginia. When he approaches a nearby house, he is held at gunpoint by the home's owner until the police arrive. It seems that a man looking just like John has been knocking on their door for the past two evenings at 2:30am. A local police officer, Connie (Laura Linney) arrives on the scene and calms the situation. Connie isn't surprised by John's story because in the last few months in Point Pleasant a lot of strange things have been happening: strange lights, vivid dreams, haunting voices, bizarre physical illnesses, etc. The most unusual of the events are the reports and sightings of a creature the locals have begun referring to as The Mothman: a giant humanoid with wings and large red eyes. Upon seeing drawings of the creature, John is reminded of Mary and the sketches she drew of the creature she saw. He knows they are one and the same and John sets out to find how deep the connection goes and what exactly the mothman's purpose is.

THE MOTHMAN PROPHECIES is a well directed film with some very talented actors. I like director Mark Pellington's film ARLINGTON ROAD and I really enjoy Laura Linney's work (though I could care less about Richard Gere). However, I really didn't enjoy the movie. To begin with, the film takes place in a modern setting while the events at Point Pleasant, which is what the film is based upon, occurred in the late 1960s. I thought the movie was going to be a period piece, but it turned out to be no such thing. Though there is a basic plot, the movie is highly disjointed with quick cuts moving from one scene and setting to another. I understand that this was done purposely as a way to produce the confusion the citizens and John feels in the audience, but I simply found it frustrating. Also, even though the Mothman can be seen several times in the movie, he is never seen clearly or in his entirety. Once again, I believe this is done for affect, but I wish the creature would have been seen clearly at least once. It might have just been me, but I found the deep friendship that developed between John and Gordon Smallwood (Will Patton) to be completely unbelievable. Actually, I found the whole idea of how John was able to become almost a citizen of Point Pleasant to be unrealistic. I'm from a small town and yes small town people are very friendly welcoming, but they are also very protective. I don't think the people of the town would have adopted John as quickly as they seem to do in the movie.

THE MOTHMAN PROPHECIES is often found in the horror isle of the local video store, but the movie isn't a horror movie. It's more of a psychological thriller/suspense tale.

Overall, THE MOTHMAN PROPHECIES is the type of movie that you might enjoy if you like one of the actors that stars in the film or if you're a fan of the director. I'd also recommend it to people who have an interest in the event that took place at Point Pleasant, though remember that the film is set in the present and doesn't offer any real suggestions about anything (it also avoids the whole UFO and G-men that were also seen in the area). For the casual movie watcher, THE MOTHMAN PROPHECIES will probably be a mixed bag with just as many people liking it as there are who didn't enjoy it. Watch at your own risk.

1 out of 5 stars Could have been a lot better.......2007-01-20

Richard Gere should retire and I would like to know who Debra Messing is related to, the girl is so one trick pony. Well I think the mothman should have made an apprearance during the film. But sll you hear is his/its voice on the telephone, I guess he had a lot of quarters

Fans of the early-'60s sitcom are naturally disappointed by this more juvenile approach to the old concept, which found Navy Captain McHale commanding a merry band of hustlers in the Pacific. Tom Arnold plays the updated title character, and while there's every reason he could have done a fine job, the script eschews the show's tone for something broader and dumber. A lost opportunity, all right, and the original McHale, Ernest Borgnine, appears to give it his blessing with a cameo as Pentagon brass. <I>--Tom Keogh</I>

I had high hopes for this flim BUT No!!! God they could of made a better film for the money they spent on this few LAUGHS gags that I got.
They needed to worked the plot a lot more. The star power was'nt that bad they should've demanded a better script from the writers. The film set in the 1990- 97 okay was hard at best, because the old show was set in WW2 and that was great, and the 97 film was hard to watch because there was no real plot at all.Tim Curry as the world second best terrorist okay that sound like a plot I'd guess!! I 'll watch the DVD when I need see something GOFFY on Saturday. I love flim with HighJinks but this one falls short some what.I BE NICE AND GIVE 3 STARS.

This is a barebones DVD, nuff said. It only includes a Theatrical Trailer. Great movie, though.

    2 out of 5 stars an ok B movie.......2006-05-09

If you are a fan of the old series this movie isn't worth your time and effort.

If you don't mind an ok B movie with a few funny moments from a cast much better than the material it is given (unfortunately the cast manages to sink to its level) then you won't mind it.

I really can't recommend you spend money on this one. Wait for the actual series to make it to DVD (what's keeping it?)

Tackling the story of Jesus for film is bound to incur controversy. Yet, in a bold move, CBS produced the television miniseries <I>Jesus</I>, which not only retells the biblical story, but takes a look at the more human side of the man. Jeremy Sisto stars, and although it takes a little while for him to gather enough momentum to have us believing him in this role, overall he is surprisingly convincing. While the movie does stray from strict scripture--Jesus is shown feeling conflicted over his feelings for Lazarus's sister Mary; Satan, portrayed by Jeroen Krabbé, works hard at convincing Jesus to stray from his path--most of the plot will be familiar to viewers. Beginning with an adult Jesus, who works with his father as a carpenter, the program traces his life and death through resurrection. The strong supporting cast, including Jacqueline Bisset as Mary, Gary Oldman as Pontius Pilate, and Debra Messing as Mary Magdalene, lends to the credibility of the miniseries. This is a satisfying retelling of the life of Jesus and will please those who want new ways to explore biblical stories, as <I>Jesus</I> not only reinforces the ideals of the New Testament but shows Jesus as a complex individual. <I>--Jenny Brown</I>

1 out of 5 stars I'd rather watch 6 hours of Jesus of Nazareth.......2007-03-23

This movie is an abomination to the story of Jesus. First of all, the actor who plays Jesus has a permananent flirtatious lusty expression on his face. The story is not all true to the bible. It was so horrid that my friend and I who decided together to rent it, had to shut it off halfway through. If you truly want a movie that pays homage to Jesus's life, watch Jesus of Nazareth instead!

5 out of 5 stars Truly, truly I say to you..........2007-01-17

I really like this movie! Jeremy Sisto is a wonderful Jesus and really captures me. I have watched this movie at least 10 ten times and bought it as gifts for my mom and boyfriend. If you like viewing Jesus in an unorthodox way, you will enjoy this movie for sure. Jesus is depicted as a real person (like you or me) before he becomes Jesus as most of us know him today. This movie seems so real to me that when I watch it, it's as if I'm really watching Jesus. So lovely!

    1 out of 5 stars Worldly.......2007-01-13

The Gospels are always a challenge to adapt to screen, but this time they didn't even try. The beginning was pretty typical: Lots of flash and color with Roman soldiers, Priests and Scribes, and, of course, Herod with Herodias and the inevitable Solome (odd that she's often given a central role, since she isn't even named in Scripture, and only mentioned once). So for about ten minutes I sat tight, waiting for the good stuff, like Jesus' baptism, the calling of The Twelve, and the Sermon on the Mount, but the when Jesus finally shows up, he's in Bethany making sheep-eyes at Mary. Blasphemy! The Bibical Jesus would never for a moment have contemplated a different path than the one He knew His Father wanted for Him, even when He was as young as twelve years. We turned it off right away, knowing the rest couldn't be much better. Don't buy this.

4 out of 5 stars Finally a movie that gives credit to Jesus being fully human as well as fully God.......2006-12-13

There have been few media representations of Jesus life that are worth the film they use- this one is worth it. While there are some things that seem a bit out of order or not perfectly correct historically, this movie allowed the human side of Jesus to come out. Often we forget that Jesus was fully human and fully God. What does it mean to be human? to have doubts, to have joy, to have fears and to have hopes. We can only surmise what it means to be God!
As a pastor I seek to find good material to introduce Jesus to kids and adults alike. A group of 15 year olds sat for the entire 3 hours watching this movie and really liked it. That, my friends, makes this a fantastic evangelism tool. I highly recommend it.

3 out of 5 stars Makes Jesus Seem Like A Friend .......2006-12-10

I enjoyed the movie. I think that it was a good movie to introduce my younger children to Jesus, making him seem like a person who could be a friend. Now that does not mean that I think it is accurate. No one really knows how Joseph and Jesus got along, the Bible is silent on that issue, probably because it is not that imporatant. He was probably devoted to Joseph as most sons would be with their fathers, so they took a little liberty, but I don't think that it was a bad thing. No it does not follow scripture (no evidence Jesus was interested in Mary, John the Baptist knew full well who Jesus was before he baptized him etc...) but any movie that will get people interested in the Lord is good as long as it does not desecrate him (having sex, girlfriends etc, being a mook etc). I liked it, but if you want more accuracy look to Jesus of Nazareth, King of Kings etc..., this movie is more kid friendly.
