In Because I Said So, Diane Keaton outdoes any pushy parent trying to marry off their children. On the eve of her 60th birthday, Daphne (Keaton) decides that she will find a suitable suitor for her youngest daughter Milly (Mandy Moore). Never mind that Moore was barely into her 20's when she shot the film and easily could pass as a high-school senior. The film asks us to believe that an otherwise smart, loving mother would push marriage on a young woman who obviously wasn't ready for that kind of commitment. The romantic comedy has a cute premise that grows old fast: In order to root for Daphne's almost manic desire to see Milly walk down the aisle, the audience has to believe she's undergoing some kind of trauma, or at least dying of an incurable disease. But because she is such an overbearing busybody whose best interests for her daughter have little to do with reality, viewers just see an obnoxious, meddling mother trying to micromanage her child's life. That we don't want to strangle Daphne is a credit to Keaton's acting skills, which manage to shine through, even in the most over-the-top scenes. Lauren Graham and the always adorable Piper Perabo play Milly's older, married sisters. Had the film revolved around the three sisters' lives--sans mom--Because I Said So would have been a much more interesting picture. --Jae-Ha Kim

Barely cracked a smile........2007-06-20
I love Mandy Moore as an actress so I had to rent this. I was very, very disappointed. The characters are horrible and unsympathetic. The humor is cheap. The mother is irritating and overly pushy to a completely unbelievable degree.

Movie Review - Because I Said So.......2007-06-15
"Because I Said So" is one of those movies which confirms that most movie reviewers have no idea what the viewing public enjoys. After reading numerous positive reviews for the movie "Bug", I believe that the reiewers would rather portray themselves as being "intellectually superior" rather than honestly watching a movie and deciding whether or not it will be enjoyed.
Of course "Because I Said So" is not artistic and is not going to win any screenplay awards for it's intellectual content. With that said, though, it is thoroughly enjoyable to watch the charming Mandy Moore try to deal with her impossible mother who always has the best intentions but ends up smothering her daughter and pushing her away. Diane Keaton still beautiful at near 60 is fun to watch as the mother who is so intent on finding the perfect man for her daughter, she actually advertises for a son-in-law.
Of course, it's predictable. We all know that mother, daughter, and the remaining sisters are eventually going to figure out a way to live with each other. As an added bonus, the girls actually get to find the perfect man for their mother. For all the guys out there who have already labeled this as a "chick flick", I think you should give it a chance. Since we're no longer going to get our weekly fix of Lauren Graham on the "Gilmore Girls", the movie is worth the price of admission just to see her.
Call me a hopeless romantic but I love these kind of feel-good movies. I confess, I watched it twice in a weekend.
Make up your own mind!.......2007-06-15
I too, saw all the negative reviews and stayed away from this movie. One day, I decided to see it for myself. I fell in love with it from the very start. It has great actors, great music, its just plain delicious. The whole cast blooms in this one. Please dont let the negative comments keep you away from this feel-good-movie. You ll be missing out on some plain fun and romance. Why should you see this one? BECAUSE I SAID SO:):)

I thought "Oscar" & "For The Love Of The Game" we're the two worst movies I've ever seen but after viewing "Because I Said So" I have to mention this film as well when talking about the art of gaging!
This movie sucks BIG-TIME!!!
Put a few bucks in the toilet and watch them flush for a better time!
Terrible!.......2007-06-11
It's not so much that the acting is bad....but the movie is soooooooooooo stupid that it hurts. First off, the tittle to the movie says it all...what a crappy movie. Youck! x 5!!!!

Generally acknowledged as a bona fide classic, this Francis Ford Coppola film is one of those rare experiences that feels perfectly right from beginning to end--almost as if everyone involved had been born to participate in it. Based on Mario Puzo's bestselling novel about a Mafia dynasty, Coppola's <I>Godfather</I> extracted and enhanced the most universal themes of immigrant experience in America: the plotting-out of hopes and dreams for one's successors, the raising of children to carry on the good work, etc. In the midst of generational strife during the Vietnam years, the film somehow struck a chord with a nation fascinated by the metamorphosis of a rebellious son (Al Pacino) into the keeper of his father's dream. Marlon Brando played against Puzo's own conception of patriarch Vito Corleone, and time has certainly proven the actor correct. The rest of the cast, particularly James Caan, John Cazale, and Robert Duvall as the rest of Vito's male brood--all coping with how to take the mantle of responsibility from their father--is seamless and wonderful. <I>--Tom Keogh</I>

The Godfather.......2007-06-21
The greatest movie ever. It can teach you all you need to know about life in 180 minutes. There you go, life in 3 hours
One Of The Best!.......2007-05-15
What can I say, this is a fantastic epic! In my opinion, it is one of the best movies of all time. A+++
IMHO, closer to the reality.......2007-04-15
It's sad to see the mafia or cosa nostra portrayed as a couple hundred thugs in New York hustling up money. The mafia is a worldwide organization and in the overall evaluation performs many good deeds and must benefit others more than it harms (Aquinas - "The greatest good for the greatest number"). The governmental systems in all countries always leave people behind and there must be some underground that picks up these people and helps them survive. Also, it seems to prove useful to have an underground which is at least somewhat prepared to fuel revolutions. Frequently, the mafia within a given country can prove a great asset to its government since they are usually privy to intelligence that escapes the ears of the government's agencies.
Everyone knows this movie, I would point out that I really liked the development of the expansion of the Cosa Nostra and in the sequels the international expansion.
The movie that started the modern American mafia genera.......2007-04-14
The Godfather set the American Mafia movie genera. A good plot line with a tight scrip, superb direction and well acted. There are many murders, after all this is about gangsters but why it's rated "R" is beyond me. It's way less gruesome with less disturbing violence than Casino and many modern MA films are much more violent.
The power plays, honour and business scheming between the Mafia families give the framework of the film with personal trial and tribulations providing more depth for the character development that echo throughout the genera ever since and make The Godfather repeatedly watchable.
I wanted a copy for a present and after spending months looking for a copy in the retail shops without success, I found this widescreen version at a great price on Amazon within seconds and, I ended up keeping it.
The King Kong of Gangster Movies.......2007-04-01
If I could rate this movie with ten stars, I wouldn't. it deserves 100 stars! This is one movie that should forever be rated as one of the top ten movies of all time!
It is about loyalty. it is about power. it is about honor. It is about how power is aquired in the dark world of the Underworld and how that power is transferred to the next generation, and how the next generation must secure and keep that power.
Santino Corleone is the obvious choice for the Don to give that power to. But he is a hot tempered loose cannon, and his temper is the thing that his enemies prey on to eliminate him. Fredo Corleone has no spine for that world, although he covets the power. Constanza Corleone is brought up in that world and obeys it's eddict to be the obediant wife, even to her creepy violent husband. but Michael... he is the idealist who wants nothing to do with that world.
Yet when the Don is shot, Michael accepts the mortal threat to his beloved family. He chooses to enter their world to protect them all. We see him "make his bones" to protect his father. We see his first wife take the bomb intended for him in Sicily. We see him transformed by these incidents to a creature barely recognizable to the happy idealist he once was.
Mike is groomed by his father to take over the Family "Business." When the Don dies, Michael is prepared and he orders a bloodbath to eliminate all enemies and consolidate his power. His ultimate betrayal is when he lies to his wife in the end.

This '90s update of the Spencer Tracy-Elizabeth Taylor hit is a mix of the pleasant and the silly, a nice enough movie but a little too controlled to become particularly interesting. Steve Martin plays the aging patriarch who is threatened by his daughter's engagement and not-quite-willing to let her go. The writing-directing team of Charles Shyer and Nancy Meyers provides Martin's character with a perhaps too-broad range of comic responsiveness to the situation, some of it gentle (a ritual game of basketball between dad and his little girl) and some of it slapstick (Martin sneaking around his prospective in-laws' house and encountering a guard dog). Martin Short turns up as a wedding coordinator--which has deliriously delicious possibilities--but his inventiveness doesn't quite strike the chord this time. <I>--Tom Keogh</I>
Description
You're invited to celebrate with this funnier-than-ever 15th Anniversary Special Edition of a timeless comedy. Steve Martin delivers a winning performance as George Banks, the befuddled father who has a hard time letting go of his young daughter (Kimberly Williams) when she unexpectedly announces her plans to wed. The "I do's" and don'ts of her big day prove no small feat for George as he runs into an off-the-wall wedding planner (funnyman Martin Short), his patient, level-headed wife (Diane Keaton), and hysterical hitches. You won't want to miss the never-before-seen bonus features, including behind-the-scenes interviews, commentary, and the Steve Martin & Martin Short interview -- now available to have and to hold forever!

An All-Time Favorite!.......2007-05-15
Father of the Bride has to be one of the funniest movies my family and I have ever seen! Highly recommended to all who enjoy a good belly laugh!
Wedding at it's funniest!.......2007-04-24
Steve Martin in one of his most memorable roles as "father of the bride". From the beginning to the end this movie is amusing and entertaining. All characters are well cast and act out a Hollywood version of what a wedding could be like. Martin Short is hilarious in his role as "Fronk", the wedding coordinator.
We love this movie! Five Stars!
Is Okay.......2007-04-10
This movie is good for the entire family nothing bad in it is a good movie
gotta love it........2007-04-08
getting married soon & can't help watching all these great wedding movies!
Good movie, lacking special features.......2007-01-15
The movie was as humorous as I remembered it the second time around, probably more so to persons who can relate to the marriage of a daughter. The DVD lacks the special features one has come to expect from retrospective "anniversary" editions: there was some director commentary, but I'd hoped for more interviews with the cast on their thoughts fifteen years later.

Amazon.com essential video
Francis Ford Coppola took some of the deep background from the life of Mafia chief Vito Corleone--the patriarch of Mario Puzo's bestselling novel <I>The Godfather</I>--and built around it a stunning sequel to his Oscar-winning, 1972 hit film. Robert De Niro plays Vito as a young Sicilian immigrant in turn-of-the-century New York City's Little Italy. Coppola weaves in and out of the story of Vito's transformation into a powerful crime figure, contrasting that evolution against efforts by son Michael Corleone to spread the family's business into pre-Castro Cuba. As memorable as the first film is, <I>The Godfather II</I> is an amazingly intricate, symmetrical tragedy that touches upon several chapters of 20th-century history and makes a strong case that our destinies are written long before we're born. This was De Niro's first introduction to a lot of filmgoers, and he makes an enormous impression. But even with him and a number of truly brilliant actors (including maestro Lee Strasberg), this is ultimately Pacino's film and a masterful performance. <I>--Tom Keogh</I>
Description
This brilliant companion piece to the original film continues the saga of two generations of successive power within the Corleone family. Coppola tells two stories in Part II: the roots and rise of a young Don Vito, played with uncanny ability by Robert De Niro, and the ascension of Michael (Pacino) as the new Don.

The Hardening of the Idealist.......2007-04-01
Most critics and the Motion Picture Academy agree. Godfather 2 is a worthy sequel to the blockbuster movie, The Godfather.
If you think that the Godfather saga is only about Organized Crime, you are wrong. It is about Family dynamics in a Sicillian family who's business just happens to be Organized Crime.
Michael is the quintessential Idealist. Whereas his father was a pragmatist bound in honor, and his brothers were respectivly a loose cannon and a milquetoast, Michaels idealism turned out to be his downfall. Whereas a pragmatist can be flexible, an idealist always insists that he is right all the time, and he runs his life in such a manner. When your life involves the Underworld, all your ideals will morph you into a pillar of granite. This is what Godfather 2 is all about.
In it we see two stories running paralell tracks. The first story is of Don Vito choosing to be a strongarm to protect his Family, his friends and his honor. Then we see Michael trying to do the same thing, but his ideals get in the way and he chooses to abandon them. He drive his friends and family away from himself by his sheer heartlessness and ruthlessness. In the end of Godfather 2, he has no honor, for he kills everyone in his way. Even his own brother, Fredo! We see in the end him sitting alone on a bench with an icy stare. But after all, he believes that all his actions were not only neccesary, but RIGHT!!! Michael tells Tom Hagen: "I dont feel that I have to kill everybody! Only my enemies." Yet to Michael, in the end, all those who do not agree with him are enemies!
To see Michael deal with his sins and attempt to buy his redemption, you must purchase Godfather 3 from Amazon.com!
Wonderful sequel to the Godfather.......2007-03-30
This is as fantastic a movie as the first part. The Metamorphosis of Michael Corleone which started in the first part reaches its completion in this sequel. He is so besotted with power that he does not want any one opposing him be it his wife, brother, or anyone. This movie shows us how life can change a "War-hero" to a power-drunk godfather.
Great sequel.......2007-03-12
Even better than the original - because it probes deeper into the personalities, especially of Michael Corleone (Al Pacino) and his obsession with family and loyalty and snubbing out his enemies. He is quiet, educated, and coldly calculating. The movie traces his dealings in the 1950s-60s, set mainly in Nevada. Interspersed with these developments is the story of the rise of his father Don Vito Corleone in Little Italy in NYC in the 1920s, with Robert De Niro doing a brilliant job in that role. Both stories are excellently told. Despite my never quite understanding America's obsession with the mafia and its ilk, it's not hard to conclude that this is a major movie achievement.
A Good Follow up.......2007-03-10
a good movie that explains the first one a little more
Quality .......2007-02-26
I'd read that Godfather II was a worthy sequel, so I was desperately hoping that this would be true - and, oh, how it was! Although the movie was only filmed two years after the Godfather, about 7 years have gone by in the timeline of the story. The Corleone family, under the guidance of their new leader Michael, have moved to Las Vegas to make money from gambling. At the same time, the film also steps back into the past to show how Vito Corleone, Michael's deceased father and former Don, came to America and made his fortune.
As with the first film, the performances are incredible. The standout actors are Al Pacino as Michael and Robert De Niro as the young Vito Corleone. Both radiate power and dynamism the entire time they are on screen. De Niro looks regal (as befits the older man played by Marlon Brando in the first movie) whilst Pacino smoulders, somehow looking much more mature than the Michael from the first film, with his eyes practically burning holes in the TV screen. Some of the most moving shots were when Michael's face faded into Vito's, seeming to represent how the two characters were inextricably linked through time.
To watch the continuing transformation to Michael's character is both heartbreaking and fascinating. At the start of the film we see how the Corleone family are falling apart - Connie has become wild and cold-hearted to punish Michael for her husband's murder, Fredo is as hopeless (although well-meaning) as ever and Kay has pretty much stopped hoping Michael will ever turn into the 'good' man she hoped he would. Michael is also about to make some important business decisions, which cause tension and rivalry with other businessmen who don't want him to succeed. This all creates a power keg of anger, violence and emotion that explodes across the next few hours with shattering consequences. I thought it was a masterstroke to intertwine the present day happenings with the old story of Vito growing up. The history of the family explains and enlightens so much.
There are too many great performances by secondary characters to mention. Robert Duvall is sensational in his reprisal of the role of Tom Hagen. Diane Keaton completely nails the part of Kay - even when she reveals something completely shocking to Michael it is believable and her gaunt face seems to show all that has gone before.
The ending is completely satisfying, if indescribably tragic. I was torn between hating Michael (particularly after he ordered a murder in the last minutes of the film that completely shocked me and showed how he has changed irredeemably) and yet I wanted to sob for him and for the loss of what his life might have been. The final few minutes bring the stories of Michael and Vito together and leave you feeling like you've been punched in the stomach.
Overall, the Godfather II is just as iconic as the Godfather. It's great to watch a sequel that continues the story so well and is faithful to the characters. I have never seen a pair of films that so hauntingly and movingly trace the destruction of one man's soul and conscience.

<I>Annie Hall</I> is one of the truest, most bittersweet romances on film. In it, Allen plays a thinly disguised version of himself: Alvy Singer, a successful--if neurotic--television comedian living in Manhattan. Annie (the wholesomely luminous Dianne Keaton) is a Midwestern transplant who dabbles in photography and sings in small clubs. When the two meet, the sparks are immediate--if repressed. Alone in her apartment for the first time, Alvy and Annie navigate a minefield of self-conscious "is-this-person-someone-I'd-want-to-get-involved-with?" conversation. As they speak, subtitles flash their unspoken thoughts: the likes of "I'm not smart enough for him" and "I sound like a jerk." Despite all their caution, they connect, and we're swept up in the flush of their new romance. Allen's antic sensibility shines here in a series of flashbacks to Alvy's childhood, growing up, quite literally, under a rumbling roller coaster. His boisterous Jewish family's dinner table shares a split screen with the WASP-y Hall's tight-lipped holiday table, one Alvy has joined for the first time. His position as outsider is uncontestable he looks down the table and sizes up Annie's "Grammy Hall" as "a classic Jew-hater." <P> The relationship arcs, as does Annie's growing desire for independence. It quickly becomes clear that the two are on separate tracks, as what was once endearing becomes annoying. Annie Hall embraces Allen's central themes--his love affair with New York (and hatred of Los Angeles), how impossible relationships are, and his fear of death. But their balance is just right, the chemistry between Allen's worry-wart Alvy and Keaton's gangly, loopy Annie is one of the screen's best pairings. It couldn't be more engaging. <I>--Susan Benson</I>
Description
Considered to be "Woody Allen's breakthrough movie" (Time), Annie Hall won* four OscarsÂ(r), including Best Picture, and established Allen as the premier auteur filmmaker. Thought by many critics to be Allen's magnum opus, Annie Hall confirmed that he had, "completed the journey from comic to humorist, from comedy writer to wit [and] from inventive moviemaker to creative artist" (Saturday Review). Alvy Singer (Allen) is one of Manhattan's most brilliant comedians, but when it comes to romance, his delivery needs a little work. Introduced byhis best friend, Rob (Tony Roberts), Alvy falls in love with the ditzy but delightful nightclub singer, Annie Hall (Diane Keaton). When his own insecurities sabotage the affair, Annie is forced to leave Alvy for a new lifeand lover (Paul Simon)in Los Angeles. Knowing he may have lost Annie forever, Alvy's willing to go to any lengthseven driving L.A.'s freewaysto recapture the only thing that ever mattered'true love. *1977: Picture; Actress (Keaton); Director; Original Screenplay

Separating the "Horrible and the Miserable".......2007-06-17
Before 'Borat' Borat - Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan (Widescreen Edition) confronted anti-Semitism, and Seinfeld Seinfeld - Season 7 did brilliant comedy about "nothing," 'Annie Hall' said a great deal about a lot of things of varying magnitude in this funny Woody Allen movie masterpiece. Taking place, of course, in New York City, Allen's nearly autobiographical alter ego, Alvy Singer, has an on-again, off-again romance with the titled character (Diane Keaton) who is his soul mate and counterpart to his own labored existence. Episodic to be sure, Allen's directing and co-writing take everything bothersome and makes it into an honest labor of love. (Alvy, too, is a stand-up comic who spars about anything from strained love relationships to Republican politics. Not to mention both have that eloquent obssession with "sex and death".) While Alvy always seems maladjusted, he is unable to cope without Annie who, while from Chippewa Falls, WI, can relate to him and help him through the shipwreck of his nuerotic life.
'Annie Hall' is exceptionally funny. In one scene Annie is relating a dream to Alvy where "Frank Sinatra is suffocating" her. Alvy, quick to psychoanalysis, immediately says that she is suffocating her career as a singer. She counters that her therapist says that it is he who is suffocating her because his last name in Singer. (And by all means psychology gets a comedic thrashing many times.) While thinking aloud on the street, Alvy stops a couple to ask them roughly why they seemed so happy. "Basically, I'm shallow," she confides. "I'm basically shallow, too," he adds. In another scene he talks to his friend (Tony Roberts), where he relates talking to a dinner guest. He talks about the meal and tells of a companion who said, "I had salad. Didjyou?" To which they both debate anti-semitism. There's also a split-screen scene where Alvie and Annie are each talking to their pyschiatrists and the differences are acutely funny. (One should also add that Allen did more in these few minutes than 'Conversations with Other Women' did in a whole movie.) Pet peeves are also confronted to provide creator and audience with plenty of therapeutic laughs.
'Annie Hall' is just delightful fun. Chockful of wit and candor, it is a sustaining comedic classic. (Also with cameo appearances by Shelly Duvall as a 'Rolling Stone' reporter and Paul Simon.)
One of Woody's Best.......2007-06-11
Annie Hall is one of the best Woody Allen movies out there. It features Dianne Keaton in one of her best performances, and is a thoroughly enjoyable movie with great wit and humor. If you are ever tempted to rent or buy one of the new below average movies put out so often by Hollywood nowadays, rethink the decision and watch this instead. Some great fun and the New York v. Los Angeles debate that is often a basis of Woody' humor, is in great form here. 5 Stars.
A romantic comedy that's actually funny, moving, and original.......2007-06-05
Full of neuroses and classic comedy bits, Woody Allen's Annie Hall is that rare breed of movie: a romantic comedy that's actually funny, moving, and original.
Allen's character, a neurotic standup comic named Alvy Singer, meets free-spirited Annie Hall (played with superb wit and energy by a young Diane Keaton). Their on-again-off-again romance flows throughout the movie leading both of them on a roller coaster of emotions that they both want to stay on and get off of at the same time.
Annie Hall features cameos from several of today's stars, although when Annie Hall was filmed these actors were just dayplayers. It's a veritable who's-who of small parts. Jeff Goldblum as a party guest, Sigourney Weaver as one of Alvy's dates, Beverly D'Angelo as a character in a TV show, Truman Capote as a Truman Capote lookalike, and Christopher Walken as Annie's slightly off-kilter brother. Paul Simon also makes an extended appearance as musician Tony Lacey.
Annie Hall is the first Woody Allen movie I've seen, and now I can't believe I waited this long. If you're going to see one Woody Allen movie, or just one movie, make it Annie Hall. You won't be disappointed.
The best of Allen's genius.......2007-05-22
Annie Hall falls at a crucial juncture of Woody Allen's career - when he was switching from the laugh a minute, slapstick routines of his early films such as 'Take the Money and Run' and 'Bananas' to the more sombre, philosophical treatments of his later works. This film captures the best of both worlds. As a result, I think it is Woody Allen's finest.
From the off, the jokes are teriffic: the movie opens with a typically emotionally fraught Allen addressing the camera direct: 'There's this joke, two Jewish women at a Catskill mountain resort having dinner - one says 'the food here's terrible,' the other says, 'yeah, and such small portions' - and that sums up my view on life'. Annie Hall is Woody Allen's finest diagnosis on love and life. Annie is an endearing character in her men's shirts and ties, the grass smoking temptress who unwittingly draws the intellectually fraught Alvie Singer (Allen )into her seemingly innocent web - 'What, did you live in a Norman Rockwell painting or something?'. The couple poke fun at New York Intellectuals: 'Samuel Beckett - he just doesn't hit me at a gut level' - 'I'd like to hit him at a gut level'. And the transient curve of modern sexual relationships. The intellectual angst of New York against the Hollywood vapid glamour of LA and the West coast. It is a fine movie, packed with many jokes and superb life observations. Worth many a viewing.
The Movie That Started It All!.......2007-05-22
About 15 years ago...I was at one of the local swapmeets in LA...and who did I run across, but Diane Keaton...I went through the usual, should I go say hi to her and tell her what an inspiration she is to our female generation? Instead, I opted to leave her alone and enjoy her day of shopping...but I hope that she understands what an influence she has had on young women, and part of it is because of Annie Hall...she and Annie have shown us that it's ok to be ourselves and be not follow the mainstream "ideal" that Hollywood usually portrays...This movie is funny and sweet and is a good start in watching any Keaton/Allen movie!

As upscale sitcoms go, <I>Something's Gotta Give</I> has more to offer than most romantic comedies. Obviously working through some semi-autobiographical issues regarding "women of a certain age," writer-director Nancy Meyers brings adequate credibility and above-average intelligence to what is essentially (but not exclusively) a fantasy premise, in which an aging lothario who's always dated younger women (Jack Nicholson, more or less playing himself) falls for a successful middle-aged playwright (Diane Keaton) who's convinced she's past the age of romance, much less sexual re-awakening. As long as old pals Nicholson and Keaton are on screen discussing their dilemma or discovering their mutual desire, <I>Something's Gotta Give</I> is terrific, proving (in case anyone had forgotten) that Hollywood can and should aim for an older demographic. Myers falls short with the sitcom device of a younger lover (Keanu Reeves) who wants Keaton as much as Nicholson does; it's believable but shallow and too easily dismissed. Myers also skimps on supporting roles for Frances McDormand, Amanda Peet, and Jon Favreau, but thankfully this is one romantic comedy that doesn't pander to youth. Mature viewers, rejoice! <I>--Jeff Shannon</I>

Something's Gotta Give.......2007-06-08
This is a very humerous yet touching romantic comedy, atleast for the 50+ crowd - maybe not for the younger generation.
my opinion of this movie.......2007-06-01
I found it to be a great movie and in perfect condition. I think most people over 30 would enjoy it. I had about everything and two great actors.
Don't underestimate this movie! :- ).......2007-04-05
This fun, silly movie would be a great date movie. 2 icons of the Baby Boom generation visiting all the relationship stereotypes we've grown up with over the years - and finding each other.
I could have lived without Jack Nicholson's naked butt, but hey, the more things change ... the more they stay the same. What can you say about Nicholson? He's fresh, fun, charming, warm and heart-rending in the role of the over-the-hill playboy who finally falls in love. Keaton is adorable, as always, and I could fall in love with her myself.
Keanu Reeves is the proverbial heart-throb, but it is true that being with someone younger than you doesn't make you feel young - it makes you feel old. There's something to be said for sticking with your own cohort. There's more to relate to.
I loved this movie. It was a delightful change of pace, charming, fun and sweet.Little Buddha
My Favorite!.......2007-04-02
All I have to say, is that this is my favorite Keaton movie and my favorite romantic comedy! I love her in Reds, Annie Hall and Mrs. Soffel, but for me, this was her best performnace (so far)...Nancy Meyers is a great director and who doesn't like Nicholson. Warning guys, it is a chick-flick, but a great date movie!
Cute.......2007-03-23
Well, once again - its hard to get past Jack Nicholson's age. I love the actor in some movies but he's not a romantic actor. The character is supposed to be 60....Nicholson is really 70 but looks 75. He's a loveable crusty old fart but who would want to kiss him! I never saw the "charm" in this character. What made him magnetic to any of the women?
Diane Keaton is radiant, as usual, and her character is believeable. I loved the crying scenes!
In any case, I would classify this as a cute movie. Not a must see.

Everybody important from the first film, including the writing-directing team of Charles Shyer and Nancy Meyers, regroups for this sequel involving a pair of pregnancies. Steve Martin's patriarch has a crisis when his married daughter (Kimberly Williams) is with child, and an even bigger one when his middle-aged wife (Diane Keaton) announces that another bambino is on the way. Martin Short is more effectively used this time around (he played the wedding coordinator in the first film), and while this movie's inevitable climax has both women giving birth on the same chaotic night, the overall effect of the film is less contrived than its predecessor. <I>--Tom Keogh</I>

Customer Reviews:
Great.......2007-06-10
This is one of the best sequels I have ever seen. It is funny and at the same time very sweet and touching. Steve Martin is great as the unwilling soon-to-be-father/grandfather. The rest of the cast is as good as they were in the first part. Definitely worth a watch by all daughters who have a very loving and protective father!
Is Great!.......2007-04-10
I really like the 2 won better but the other one you need to see first!
The first one is much better..........2006-10-12
I was very disappointed in this movie. As much as I love Steve Martin, this movie just didn't do anything for me. I had to make myself watch it in its entirety. It was too unrealistic; a mother and daughter being pregnant at the same time, giving birth on the same exact day, in the same hospital across the hall from one another. Give me a break. And what are the chances of you buying your house back one day after you sell it by just one stoke of a pen by simply reaching into your pocket and whipping out a $100,000 check? Yeah, I see that happen all the time. And gee whiz, Annie's husband walks into the hospital after a business trip in Tokyo just in the nick of time, how convenient. And is it too much to ask to have just one movie where the pregnant woman gets a normal ride to the hospital? The wild ride to the hospital scene is played (Look Who's Talking?, Nine Months). And just what kind of job did the father of the bride have? A baby suite? How fortunate we all would be if we could toss thousands of dollars on a single room in a house that's only going to be used for a couple of months. Now that's what I call living! And Franck, not only does he coordinate weddings but he throws in baby showers here and there as well. Oh, and he also designs baby suites. Maybe he does barmitzvahs too. This movie would have been a lot better if it only focused on Annie being pregnant. The Banks having 3 children spread out across 3 different generations was a bit much. "Is that your grandbaby?" "No, that's my daughter." "Hey, is that your sister?" "No, that's my aunt." "Hey, it was nice meeting your brother." "Are you kidding me, that's my nephew!" There were no funny moments in this movie and seeing Steve Martin as a brunette, even if it was only briefly, was just painful. His hair has been gray ever since I can remember and he should keep it that way at all times. Do yourself a favor and pass on this movie. The first one is much better. If I could have given it a zero star I would have. Sorry Steve, I still love you but the next time I want to see you in a good movie, I'll just pull out "The Jerk","Parenthood" or "Housesitter". As a matter of fact, I'm planning to take this movie to the Thrift store the next time I donate.
Narrow View of Normal.......2006-09-18
What's wrong with raising a baby in a beach house? Am I the only person who doesn't live in a mansion? Do you have to be rich to be happy?
This movie, and the original remake (since that's what these films are) tell a lot of lies about what people should expect life to be. Therefore, they are not fun. All the humor evaporates when you realize it is attempting to tell you "your life should be this way" or you're wrong if it is not. Unfortunately, not everyone has a picture perfect life.
Didn't Think It Could Get Any Better!.......2006-09-13
I remember watching "Father of the Bride" over and over again growing up...dreaming of my own wedding! It was just one of those movies that you can never really get tired of. I was excited when they made "Father of the Bride 2" , but I really didn't have high hopes for it because I thought there was no way it could compete with the first...boy was I wrong. This movie is just as great as the first. With mother and daughter having a baby at the same time and all the same great characters back from the first movie...there was never a dull moment! If you liked the first you should love this movie!

The writing-directing team of Charles Shyer and Nancy Meyers (<I>Father of the Bride</I>) made this sweet satire about a high-powered yuppie executive (Diane Keaton) who unexpectedly becomes a mom and finds she can't successfully integrate the role into her busy life. Typical of the Shyer-Meyers films prior to Myers taking the director's reins on the wonderful <I>Parent Trap</I>, <I>Baby Boom</I> is a little wooden and more sentimental than genuine. But there are entertaining moments, for sure, and Keaton is a delight. <I>--Tom Keogh</I>

Just fun!.......2007-05-09
This is a perfect showcase for Diane Keaton and far superior to her more recent attempts. It certainly speaks for mothers in the workplace, especially single moms.
Baby Boom.......2007-05-07
A good, heart-warming story about a woman who becomes an unexpected mother. Fun to watch and easy to follow along. A great movie.
clean.......2007-05-04
This is a movie that the whole family can watch and these days thats rare.good movie.
taught me a lesson.......2007-02-16
This movie is pretty much the reason I refuse to have a career that requires 90 hour work weeks. So good. Truly Diane Keaton at her finest. One of the best movies of the 1980s.
It does not contain the Spanish audio track.......2007-01-04
I ask for this item because the description says that contains the spanish audio. And it is not true. I claimed for that. They send me another one (that I didn't ask for) and I didn't send back the other one (because it was a gift for my friend, and my friend went out of the country next day). I had to pay for two DVD's because I tried to cancel the order, but they said to me that they can't cancel the order. I stop buying DVD's to avoid this.

Filming a love story centered on two mentally challenged people is a touching idea, one that's been attempted in films such as <I>Benny and Joon</I> and even, to a certain extent, <I>As Good As It Gets</I>. <I>The Other Sister</I> is another addition to the genre, a well- acted comedy-drama centering on the romance of Carla (Juliette Lewis) and Daniel (Giovani Ribisi) and throwing in some general family angst as a secondary story line. The acting is tremendous--Lewis and Ribisi both give convincing performances without condescending to their characters. Diane Keaton plays yet another charming scatterbrain, this time as Elizabeth Tate, the uptight, rich mother who wants a picture-perfect life. But good acting isn't enough here. These fine actors drown in a sea of mediocre writing, and we're left with a film with no real conflict or tension. Will Carla and Daniel make it work? Well, of course. Will mother Elizabeth loosen up about her "gay workaholic" daughter and let Carla live her own life? Do you really need to ask? There are a few cringe-worthy moments that have a sense of truthfulness, such as when Daniel stands up at Carla's sister's wedding to announce his feelings. But otherwise, these characters live in a pampered, fairy-tale world where the worst thing that happens to them is that the meanies at school put chewing gum in Daniel's bike helmet. Ultimately, this is a sweet, albeit occasionally saccharine, tale that will move those who are looking for cheerful fare. <I>--Jenny Brown</I>

When your heart needs some "hot chocolate".... .......2007-03-16
I first saw this movie several years ago, and I was quite impressed with it. Recently, I saw it several times on cable and knew that I absolutely had to own the DVD. This is one of those movies that I never tire of watching, especially when my heart needs a little comforting and warmth.
I think Juliette Lewis is one of the most underrated actresses in Hollywood, and she did a fabulous job of portraying a mentally-challenged woman. So many movies out there seem to focus on the limitations of handicapped people, but it was obvious that her character "Carla" had more potential and opportunities than Carla's parents' wildest dreams.
Every family has its own set of issues and challenges, and it was quite inspiring to see Carla and her family struggle through different issues (e.g. Carla getting a boyfriend). In a poignant fashion, the movie takes the viewer through a transition of all the adult children leaving the nest once and for all. I liked the fact that the family's problems were not solely centered around Carla's life.
A young woman challenged yet undefeated in her lust for life and love, a family changing and growing along the unrelenting wave of time...this movie is surely a classic that never fails to touch your heart!
Wonderful Movie.......2007-01-03
The movie The Other Sister- is a captivating tale of a young women trying to break free. Diane Keaton does a wonderful job as the over protective mum- who insists on controlling the young women due to her mental issues (she is mildly challenged). I would suggests this movie for anyone who knows what it feels like to be held down or placed on a leash- only allowing you to spread your wings so far. Julliette Lewis and Giovinni Ribisi do a magnificent job as lovers in the film.
Look Out for Fundamentalist Propaganda Located Nearby.......2006-07-05
I was blown away by the wonderful acting of Juliet Lewis and Giovanni Ribisi who played the retarded young adults. This was a very compassionate film about the realities of living with a disability. Disabled people desire and deserve to have the same opportunities as everyone else. It was wonderful to see the love "Carla"'s siblings and parents had for her. There were 2 reasons I didn't give this movie 5 stars. One was that Diane Keaton's character of the overly controlling mother was annoying. Obviously she was supposed to be annoying, but I think she overacted a bit and she needed better lines, she seemed to say the same stuff over and over again. Another reason I didn't love this film was because Hollywood once again compels right wing nut jobs to write reviews that portray themselves as normal and good. Sorry, Hollywood, but there will always be those of us who still believe God's word to be true. Being a right wing nut job isn't considered normal or ok in the bible. God never created it. Look it up. You are not helping people who struggle with it to be set free from that addiction and lonely lifestyle.
