Music and Lyrics is frothy and sweet, like the top of a perfect cappuccino shared a deux. Hugh Grant is a self-professed "happy has-been," playing his befuddled, adorable persona more spot-on than he has since Four Weddings and a Funeral. As Alex, former member of an '80s pop band who years later is playing at water parks and high school reunions, he's settled into a life of lesser expectations. Drew Barrymore, quietly radiant, is Sophie, the underachieving girl Friday who arrives to water--make that overwater--Alex's plants--and to explode him out of that comfy rut. If the plot's a bit farfetched, it matters not, since the two lead characters are so likable--and make such beautiful music together. Big bonus: the supportive role of Kristen Johnston as Rhonda, Sophie's older sis (and longtime Alex fan) whose hilarious performance threatens to steal the show whenever she's onscreen. (The owner of a chain of successful weight-loss centers, Rhonda tries to comfort a rattled Sophie: "Want to do some stress eating?") The film also marks the remarkable debut of Haley Bennett, who plays a pop star of Britney/Cristina proportions with deadpan sincerity radiating through her skimpy outfits and mega-extensions. As Alex and Sophie work on crafting musical magic, something else is taking hold. It's music to the ears of anyone needing a sweet romantic comedy that hits all the right notes. --A.T. Hurley
Description
First you're hot, then you're not...and then you're Alex Fletcher (HUGH GRANT). So when the sizzlingest tween-queen on the charts asks the has-been '80s pop sensation to write her a song, he grabs for another chance at stardom. Problem: Alex can say it with music, but he sure can't say it with words. Enter Sophie Fisher (DREW BARRYMORE), his beguiling if quirky plant lady, who has a green thumb for lyrics. Together, they go after songwriting success -- and discover that if you want to write the perfect love song, it helps to fall in love. With Hugh Grant and Drew Barrymore at the keyboard and Marc Lawrence (Two Weeks Notice) directing, Music and Lyrics is a witty, wacky romantic comedy that faces the music...and laughs!
Customer Reviews:
Good little movie.......2007-06-23
It's definitely a flick. Nothing exception, but nothing horrible either. I enjoyed it, it's a cute movie, but not one of my favorites from this year.
Lighthearted Romantic Comedy.......2007-06-22
If you enjoyed the trailer, then you will laugh through this film at the light hearted self-deprecating comedic style of Hugh Grant which fans of his have savored over the years. It's wonderful to see that Hugh is still on top of his game, and Drew Barrymore blends wonderfully into his style to produce a quirky aging rock star flick that has all of us who survived the 80's laughing at ourselves along with the characters. The characters aren't particularly haunting, but they are adorable and fun, so you will enjoy your 90 or so minutes of escape with them. Five stars because the film fully delivers what it advertises in the trailer.
Hilariously Fun!.......2007-06-21
This movie is one of my all time favorites. The chemistry between the main characters is wonderful. This movie brings back all of the fun of the 80's and I was flooded with memories during the opening credits as the 80's video spoof was played.
Hugh Grant does a wonderful job of being the "80's has been" from a group called "Pop". The other lead singer continued on with a very successful solo career and Grant is the one that is still singing old songs and doing Knott's Berry Farm gigs, etc. It reminds me of the group "Wham" from the 80's.
Drew Barrymore is a paranoid writer that is taking over a friend's plant watering job while the friend is on vacation. She ends up in Grant's apartment and starts to sing her own lyrics to a tune that Hugh Grant is playing. He loves it, wants to hire her, and thus the story begins.
They start working together to write a song within a few days for the biggest recording star in the world. They are an odd couple with hilarious consequences to their differences. This is a great movie for everyone to watch. I highly recommend it!
Loved it!.......2007-06-18
It may just be my borderline obsession for all things Hugh Grant and/or Drew Barrymore -- or perhaps the movie is just absolutely perfect -- but I freakin' loved this movie and can't even bring myself to find one single complaint about it (a rarity, i know). It was cute, it was funny, and so romantic -- what more could you want? Ok, what I want is an encore of Hugh dancing around in those tight little 80's pants ... yum. But thats neither here nor there. This wasn't supposed to be the brainchild of all movies ... it was simply meant to be cute and funny, and it delivered just that. =)
"...but then PoP goes my heart...".......2007-06-17
Music and Lyrics starring Hugh Grant and Drew Barrymore is surprisely entertaining, cute, and funny at times. This is not a perfect movie but I do enjoy that this movie is written and directed by Marc Lawrence (Miss Congeniality, Two Weeks Notice). The song in the beginning is so hilarious and Hugh Grant has never looked sexier but the only thing I didn't buy is the lack of chemistry between Grant and Barrymore, they seem more like good pals than potential love interests for one another. Anyway these talented actors carry the movie well and that actress who plays Britney-wannabe, Cora Coraman is strangely engrossing. I would recommend Music and Lyrics to anyone who loves preticable and yet engaging romantic comedies. Enjoy my little washed-up has-beens!

Product Description
In this exclusive 83 minute DVD premiere, featuring brand new, never before seen content, Stewie, the maniacal baby genius, is distracted from his plans for world domination when he sees a man who looks just like him on television. Convinced that this man must be his real father (after all, how could he possibly share genetic material with the dimwitted Peter?), Stewie sets off on a cross-country road trip to find him. But his incredible journey leads him to discoveries far more vile and shocking that anything found in his diaper.

For Family Guy fans, there are no freakin' sweeter words than "Never Before Seen." A triumphant homecoming for the Griffins, Stewie Griffin is not so much a movie as it is a not-yet-aired three-episode story arc enhanced with a home-video-exclusive "red carpet premiere" prologue and an epilogue (capped, of course, with a fart joke). Family Guy's resurrection is a television miracle, and its creators have rewarded the faithful by picking up right where they left off, offending any and all sensibilities (recasting Jesus as comic magician Art Metrano), dissing the celebrity disenfranchised (Ellen Cleghorne references, anyone?), and generally taking potshots at anyone on their enemies list (Stewie breaks the neck of a reporter for Entertainment Weekly, the magazine that once called Family Guy "the Awful Show They Just Keep Putting on the Air"). The Untold Story! is a star vehicle for Family Guy 's breakout character, in which the mega maniacal and matricidal infant has a Grinch-like change of heart after a near-death experience (and a disturbing encounter with Steve Allen in Hell) and, more life-altering, discovers a football-pated man who could be his father (the truth is more shocking!). As go the gags, so goes Family Guy, and there are enough good ones here to compensate for the many misfires. The Miller-esque (as in Dennis) penchant for channeling arcane pop culture can grow tiresome. But for those who do remember the words to the Who's the Boss theme song, know (or still care) who Steve Bartman is, and are always up for "a sexy party," this will be the greatest story ever untold. --Donald Liebenson

Does this really need a review?.......2007-05-10
A great feature presentation of arguably the best comedy animation series ever made.
The good, the bad and the hilarious .......2007-05-04
"Stewie Griffin - The Untold Story" is a big, colorful and tasty collection of everything we love about Family Guy (and I mean, certainly, open-mindness... and fart jokes). Don't miss nearly 90 minutes of insane Family Guy laughs, all combined in this work of genius. Join Stewie in his time-travel to the future, watch Cris grow even more fatter and Meg become a guy, and Stew himself - a 30 year old virgin.
Yawn........2007-05-02
Honestly, I only bought this because I heard that a David Bowie character appeared in it. When I actually watched it, I was saddened to see that it was just a few Family Guy episodes (rather boring ones, to tell the truth) that I had already seen strung together. I wouldn't say it's worth 20 bucks, but if you feel the need to watch this and you're a big Family Guy fan, go ahead, if you must...
Family Guy: The Movie Review .......2007-03-13
I saw separate pecies of this movie on TV and I must say that I am somewhat impressed. There are laughs and misses on this movie. I enjoyed most of the movie except the flashbacks and other off topic sequences. Some of them are funny at first and then get annoying. I wish I would have watched the movie on its DVD because I bet there were things on it that TV wouldn't show. So I guess if people are going to see this movie on TV I would read this review, but if you're going to rent it or buy it, I would rather read another one.
-Ben Russell
Too funny...Stewie is my favorite .......2007-03-09
Forgot about the Simpsons...Family guy is so funny and this dvd will crack you up. I caught myself saying "oh wow did they really say that?"...through out the entire thing. Definately recommend this one.

A wild collection of hip actors--from Will Ferrell to Drew Barrymore to David Cross--provide voices for Curious George, based on the classic, gentle children's books. Ted (voiced by Ferrell, Elf) works at a natural history museum that's fallen on hard times. The museum director's son (Cross, Arrested Development) wants to turn it into a parking lot, but Ted offers to bring back a mysterious idol from Africa that's guaranteed to pull in crowds. Unfortunately, the idol turns out to be three inches tall. But Ted (who, before he heads on safari, gets outfitted in head-to-toe yellow, transforming him into the beloved Man in the Yellow Hat from the books) accidentally brings back a lonely yet irrepressible monkey, soon dubbed George. In no time at all George gets into all kinds of mischief--painting an apartment, soaring aloft with a bunch of helium-filled balloons, climbing on a dinosaur skeleton, and generally getting Ted into hot water. Older fans of the books will probably wince at the formulaic save-the-museum storyline, as well as at the obligatory love interest (Barrymore, Charlie's Angels) whose role is utterly passive. Jack Johnson's songs are so bland you can't remember the melodies even as you're listening to them, and the animation (an odd but not ineffective blend of two-dimensional drawing and CGI) has grossly cutified the book's illustrations, eroding their origina charm (the contrast is made sadly clear by a montage of the original drawings over the closing credits). But the basic relationship between man and monkey remains sweet, and younger kids will delight in George's innocent troublemaking. --Bret Fetzer

My Friend George.......2007-06-14
Curious George (the movie) sweet, funny, friendly and curiously wonderful for the whole family. Sometimes I watch it all by myself. A great movie for getting the kids to settle down.
Curious cool George.......2007-06-13
Our eight year oldgrandson had seen the movie in the past and couldn't wait to see the DVD
A hit.......2007-06-06
My 2 year old loves Curious George from reading the library book, so I was excited when this movie was made. Pretty funny for her and all right from me to watch. It does get a little old after the 5th time, but all little kid movies do.
Beautiful, innocent, gorgeous.......2007-06-05
Curious George is a heart-warming tale about a mischievous little monkey. I'd recommend it to anyone who has children ... even adults will find themselves drawn to the innocent fun of this story. The music is relaxing, soothing and lovely. A wonderful buy for the whole family!
Warning WRONG DVD included in case.......2007-05-28
DO NOT ORDER THIS PRODUCT IF YOU WANT TO WATCH THE MOVIE. I purchased this movie for my son--it was the second time I purchased this DVD because we watched it so many times we damaged the first one. My complaint is not with the movie, but with this particular product. When I received the DVD--the cover indicated widescreen edition. This disk did not contain any version of the movie. I clicked on every posible link after inserting the disk into my computer and the movie was NO WHERE TO BE FOUND. This disk is NOT THE MOVIE!!!! Then when I attempted to return it, I found the Amazon return options to be completely annoying.

You're better off having been born after, say, 1965, if you really want to enjoy this corny romantic comedy and its abundant references to the MTV culture of the mid-1980s--and even then the odds are only 50-50 that you'll have a shamelessly good time. But a lot of people beat those odds, because The Wedding Singer was a surprise box-office hit when released in early 1998, and it resulted in Saturday Night Live graduate Adam Sandler's salary going ridiculously sky-high. It's a schizophrenic film about a seemingly schizophrenic wedding singer (Sandler) who's charmingly sweet to some people but a tongue-lashing maniac to others, probably out of frustration over his fading ambition as a wannabe rock star (not to mention Sandler's penchant for loud-mouthed lunacy). When he meets an admiring young waitress (delightfully played by Drew Barrymore), it's love at first sight, complicated by their pending marriages to much less appealing fiancés. The plot then contorts itself to accommodate this contrived will-they-or-won't-they? scenario, so you're better off ignoring the love story and focusing on the comedy, which is sporadic but occasionally hilarious. This is also a lighter, friendlier Sandler than moviegoers had seen before, which probably accounts for the movie's success. Toss in a fine supporting cast--including a show-stopping drunk act by indie-movie stalwart Steve Buscemi--and you've got the ingredients for a no-brainer that's ultimately more fun than it is annoying. --Jeff Shannon

adam sandlers best!.......2007-06-12
hilarious movie! not adam sandlers typical roll and i think it is his best.
Never received.......2007-05-25
It was funny how when I went through an independent seller I got my other items at the address I have on file and yet when I went through Amazon I never received this item along with all of what I ordered.
A romantic comedy!.......2007-04-26
Adam Sandler at his best, matched up with Drew Barrymore, this dynamic duo makes you want to laugh, cry, and fall in love. The frosting on this wedding cake is when you flash back to the 80's with a great soundtrack of hits from all your favorites.
The movie takes you back to all fads such as Michael Jackson's white glove, Miami Vice, Billy Idol, Alabama Slammers, all-temper-Cheer, and hairdo's that wil make you laugh.
The story is simple--boy meets girl, girl meets boy ...they fall in love.
Only problem is: the girl, Julia, is going to get married to someone, Glenn the rich boyfriend, who she doesn't love.
The wedding singer, Robbie, gets dumped at his own wedding, and helps Julia plan her wedding; thats when they fall in love.
This is a fun movie with lots of passion from the actors, and leaves you smiling in the end.

Sandler Sings For His Supper.......2007-03-14
Adam Sandler's film career has had its ups and downs. From the easily forgotten "Billy Madison" to the well-intentioned but slightly miscued "Click," Sandler has played both straight man and buffoon to varying degrees of success. In "The Wedding Singer," Sandler manages to harness his inner goofball and pulls off a wonderful performance in what is probably his best film to date.
Sandler plays Robbie Hart, an aspiring songwriter who plays weddings for extra cash until his career takes off. He's nice to old ladies, lives in his sister's basement, and is the best wedding singer money can buy. At the opening of the film, Robbie and his bandmates are setting the dancefloor aflame with the 80's classic, "You Spin Me Round" (originally by Dead or Alive). While at this wedding reception, Robbie runs into Julia (played to sweet perfection by Drew Barrymore), a soon-to-be married server with the catering service at the reception. The two hit it off instantly and become good friends. Julia even works at Robbie's wedding and witnesses his being left at the altar by his would-be wife, Linda.
Robbie falls into a funk, refusing to play any and every wedding reception he's offered, including Julia's. He eventually agrees to help her set up her wedding with her Don Johnson wannabe fiance, Glenn (Matthew Glave). As any good romantic comedy would have happen, Robbie and Julia begin to fall for each other and their respective fiances are proven to be no good and undeserving of their love. Even though, neither Robbie nor Julia can openly reveal their love for one another to anybody. In the end, everything is tied nicely together by a ballad sung by Robbie, and everyone goes home happy.
The cast in this film is wonderful. Christine Taylor plays Holly, Julia's loose cousin. Frank Sivero is hilarious in a brief role as Robbie's brother-in-law. Steve Buscemi and Jon Lovitz also have bit roles but make the most of them. Sandler's buddy, Allen Covert, plays his best friend, Sammy, a limo driver who wants to be like the Fonz. Alexis Arquette is George, a Boy George lookalike. Also look for Kevin Nealon as a banker who interviews Robbie.
Of course, the one thing most people seem to focus on in this film is the music and fashion of the 80's. Pop culture abounds in this film with references to Van Halen's breakup, Burt Reynolds and Loni Anderson's "strong" marriage, J.R. getting shot on "Dallas," Freddy Krueger, all temperCheer, and the Dunkin' Donuts guy. The musical lineup includes songs by Journey, Flock of Seagulls, Culture Club, David Bowie, and Huey Lewis and the News among others. Heck, Billy Idol even has a scene-stealing cameo on a flight to Las Vegas.
Obviously, if you grew up in the 80's, you're going to catch onto most of the pop culture references in the film. However, you need not know them in order to enjoy this film. It's a hilarious romantic comedy that showcases the talents of Sandler and Barrymore, and I highly recommend it.
If you love 80's music..........2007-02-12
You will like this movie. It is set in 1985, and Robbie Hart is a wedding singer who lives in his sister's basement and is set to get married to an unsatisfied fiance (played by Angela Featherstone, the famous Xerox girl from Friends). Everything comes tumbling around him when she announces they aren't meant to be because she deserves more than a low-paid wedding singer, and he sets on a mission to improve himself so that one day a girl would actually want to marry him.
Drew Barrymore is the sweet catering hall waitress who is engaged to a cocky Miami Vice-loving two timer. They become great friends during the course of this very funny movie, filled with great 80's references and terrific music. I won't tell you how it ends (though i'm sure you can guess) but it's a great movie.

Take away the Fairy Godmother, and what have you got left from the Cinderella fable? The story of a girl for whom a bad stroke of luck is no match for her internal strength and purity of heart. Drew Barrymore plays Cinderella's alleged inspiration, Danielle, in this romantic drama that purports to tell the "facts" behind the Grimm brothers' story. One of three daughters of a man (Jeroen Krabbé) who dies and leaves her fate in the hands of a conniving stepmother (Anjelica Huston), Danielle is cast into the lowly role of a servant. Meanwhile, her sisters are evaluated as possible mates for a French prince (Dougray Scott), but he's far more intrigued with Danielle's intelligence and beauty--not to mention her way with a sword and fist. Directed by Andy Tennant (who directed Barrymore in TV's The Amy Fisher Story), Ever After has that rare ability to win the heart and mind of a viewer simply by being committed to its own innocence, particularly where Barrymore's luminous performance is concerned. A contemporary take on an old, virtually forgotten Hollywood convention--the costume adventure with middling artistic ambition but real audience appeal--Ever After is a surprisingly delightful film. --Tom Keogh
Description
A "modern" young woman of the 16th century, Danielle (Barrymore) is as independent and wise as she is beautiful and kind. Against remarkable odds, she stands up to her scheming stepmother (Huston) and works miracles on the lives of everyone around her, including the crown prince of France (Dougray Scott)! Now you can relive this captivating, contemporary retelling of the classic fairytale.

Best Romantic Movie Ever.......2007-06-09
This film is GREAT. it makes in my openion the rather boring story of cinderella into a fantastic love story. it is the type of film that you could watch over and over and over again. simply GREAT!
Great movie!.......2007-05-31
One of my favorite movie! I've watched it more then five times. It's a good one for anyone who like watch it on a girls' night out.
My Favorite Cinderella Story.......2007-05-26
Imagine Cinderella not as a fairy tale, but as a true story! That is the approach of this retelling of the favorite childhood book. And I just loved it. It opens with an ailing royal agreeing to meet with famous writers to tell her story. They eagarly listen to her share the story of her great great grandmother and how she got that glass slipper, as she presents it to the visiting writers. The movie then takes us back to the "true" story of how it all came to pass. Drew Barrymore plays Danielle De Barbarac, "Cinderella" and Dougray Scott plays Prince Henry. A brilliant performance by Angjelica Huston as the mean stepmother as well. The fun addition to this retelling is that they include Leonardo da Vinci as a close advisor to the King and Prince. Everything about this film is wonderful. I've watched it multiple times at the theatre and countless times in my home theatre. This is the ultimate chick flick--but then again most any film starring Drew Barrymore is going to be a hit.
A perfect romance movie for independent women!!.......2007-05-20
To wonderful for words! Had the VHS and ran it into the ground. Way better on DVD! Just a great feel good movie, that makes you want to cheer at the end for all women who belive in themselves. Much more than a rental, a definate keeper!
Super nice!.......2007-05-17

Steven Spielberg's 1982 hit about a stranded alien and his loving relationship with a fatherless boy (Henry Thomas) struck a chord with audiences everywhere, and it furthered Spielberg's reputation as a director of equally strong commercial sensibilities and classical leanings. Henry Thomas gives a strong, emotional performance as E.T.'s young friend, Robert MacNaughton and Drew Barrymore make a solid impression as his siblings, and Dee Wallace is lively as the kids' mother. The special effects almost look a bit quaint now with all the computer advancements that have occurred since, but they also have more heart behind them than a lot of what we see today. --Tom Keogh
Customer Reviews:
Still great after all these years.......2007-06-07
I recently watched E.T. for the first time in many years with my 4 year old daughter. It was like I was watching it again for the very first time. She absolutely loves this film and so do I.
I was 11 when this movie came out, so I really could relate with the kids in the film. I grew up in that same generation, in middle-class suburbia, USA, had Star Wars toys, rode bikes with my friends, etc. Watching this film brought it all back to me again and reminded me of a time in my life when the world was much bigger and life was a lot simpler. It's amazing how age can take the innocence away from you, but this movie is the perfect way to get it back, even if just for 2 hours.
Even though I had seen the movie and knew what was going to happen, I still cried like a baby when E.T. "died" and when he finally went home. The scene at the very end when the spaceship leaves a rainbow in its wake and you see the reactions of the kids and the adults as the ship disappears will make your heart burst and leave you weeping like a child.
Most of the naysayers of this film are definitely in the minority. This film is sheer brilliance and Spielberg has forged himself a place in history by directing it. The story, the acting, the music, the cinematography are all perfectly executed. It is a film that can be enjoyed by all ages.
One pet peeve, though. The 2002 version is a sell-out. The digital "upgrading" of some of the effects were well-done and appreciated, but replacing guns with walkie-talkies is just plain stupid. While I was watcing the 2002 version, I thought to myself, "That's a strange way to hold a walkie-talkie." Then I realized that in the original version, it was a gun, not a radio.
I was very disappointed that Spielberg would feel pressured to alter this work of genius just because of political correctness. Police and government agents carry guns. They sometimes even use them to hurt or kill others. It's a fact of life. If that fact was too much for kids to handle, why didn't Spielberg edit out the whole part where E.T. dies? That's a cold, hard fact of life as well. If you're gonna go PC, why not go all the way? Why? Because doing so would have totally eradicated the emotional impact of the film and it would never have become such a huge hit. What can I say? Money talks; another cold, hard fact of life.
Enough ranting. Please, purchase this DVD. Not only is it a masterful work of movie-making, not only is it a piece of cinema history, you will actually ENJOY it! It's one of those movies you can actually enjoy with the whole family.
Priceless, timeless, ageless, E.T. has suspense, action, humor, and most importantly, a message of love and friendship that transcends all boundaries. What else do you need from a film?
A Classic.......2007-03-08
This is a classic for any family. There are one or two "no-no" words, but such a great story!!!!!!!!!
E.T. - The Extra-Terrestrial.......2007-02-22
A totally enjoyable movie to be watch with grandkids. Not that scary as to frighten them
Amazingly overrated.......2006-12-27
It's amazing how there are some lackluster films that become so vastly overrated. I saw E.T. once in the theater back in 1982, and never had a desire to watch it again. The only thing about this movie that I didn't find annoying was the alien himself. The children seemed obnoxious, the government officials were just cardboard caricatures, and all this came from the same guy who gave us the vastly superior "Close Encounters?" In "Close Encounters," Roy Neary's children were also obnoxious, but their screen time was minimal. In E.T., they dominate the movie.
I found the plot to be unengaging and not very interesting. Okay, the kids first meet E.T., they scream, E.T. screams back, okay cute. The mother finds out and gets upset. Okay. E.T. drinks a beer that causes him and Elliot to get drunk. Okay, ha ha. And the bike ride in the air? You can probably see something just as cute in a number of Disney films, like "Bedknobs and Broomsticks." But what else is there to this movie? Just a boring and depressing second half stretch of the film, involving trying to get E.T. back to his ship -- a noble effort, but not exactly a thrill ride of a plot device for a fictional movie. As far as a lesson in friendship, you can see that told just as well in droves of non-science fiction films. But in sci-fi, give me some awe and wonder, some mystery, something that makes you think.
I never saw this on DVD, but what makes it even worse is that I heard that Spielberg even allowed some PC tampering with his film, like the police carrying flashlights now instead of guns.
If this is what you truly like, have fun. But how this film got elevated to the "Gone With the Wind" class is beyond me.
Great Speilberg film.......2006-12-04
This is a classic. Speilberg hast to be the best filmmaker of all time. You could never get tired of this.

With generous amounts of good luck and good timing, 50 First Dates set an all-time box-office record for the opening weekend of a romantic comedy; whether it deserved such a bonanza is another issue altogether. It's a sweet-natured vehicle for sweet-natured stars Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore, and their track record with The Wedding Singer no doubt factors in its lowbrow appeal. But while the well-matched lovebirds wrestle with a gimmicky plot (she has no short-term memory, so he has to treat every encounter as their first), director Peter Segal (who directed Sandler in Anger Management) ignores the intriguing potential of their predicament (think Memento meets Groundhog Day) and peppers the proceedings with the kind of juvenile humor that Sandler fans have come to expect. The movie sneaks in a few heartfelt moments amidst its inviting Hawaiian locations, and that trained walrus is charmingly impressive, but you can't quite shake the feeling that too many good opportunities were squandered in favor of easy laughs. Like Barrymore's character, you might find yourself forgetting this movie shortly after you've seen it. --Jeff Shannon
Customer Reviews:
Falling in love for the first time, everyday, for the rest of your life and maybe even crying... .......2007-06-09
After "The Wedding Singer" the Sandler-Barrymore duo do it again with their wonderful on-screen chemistry and an adorable story. The movie also makes you think philosophically. Actually many people in life whose actions are still very mechanical and robot like, live a life as Drew does in this movie. However unlike Drew there are none to tell these people what's wrong with their lives. However it is also tragic to think that one day she has to wake up somewhere in her 60's and realise that her father died and then relive that everyday. The same feeling would multiply if more of her loved ones were to die before her. The other thing to imagine is that someone ought to ensure her daily treatment continued till she died.
Then there are those unforgettable numbers from the 80's, particularly "Lovesong" and "Friday I'am in love" by the amazing, The Cure, "Drive" by The Cars, "Hold me now" from the Thomson Twins, The Police's "Every breath You take" and Spandau Ballet's "True" which was also featured in "The Wedding Singer". Most of these numbers this time are played as cover songs by newer artistes making the soundtrack to this movie another big seller. "Could you be loved" the original by Bob Marley is retained though. And like "The Wedding Singer" there's that adorable song from Adam Sandler as well.
Hawaii is pictured so beautifully that the movie literally promotes tourism for this lovely island.
Several other characters also deserve praise. Henry's Hawaiian Friend, Lucy's brother (played by the guy who plays Frodo's friend in "Lord of the Ring",series), the Chef at the restaurant, the owner of the restaurant, the Drew's father and Henry's assistant at the zoo.
A movie that can make you laugh as much as it can bring a tear to your eyes, see it if you haven't seen it yet.
Very cute and worth the purchase price.......2007-05-29
I have not been disappointed in the duo Sandler/Barrymore so far, their movies have been rather good, they have the chemistry. This is one of those cute movies that gets you to laugh from time to time and even think about how your life can be different. Sometimes you wonder if these two characters would really get together in real life, but then realize it's just a movie that you can watch for the entertainment of it. It's in my collection and I think you will want it in yours as well after you watch it.
Equal Parts Romantic and Comedy.......2007-04-15
Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore give memorable performances in this very funny romantic comedy. Don't worry guys this isn't a total chick flick just kinda. This movie was shot in the very beautiful state of Hawaii. Of course the Sandman makes this movie very worth buying.
Adorable Movie........2007-04-09
I love this movie. It's just so cute and I love to see Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore paired together. They just have such great chemistry
50 First Dates.......2007-01-19
I purchased numerous copies of this movie for my friends on the mainland who haven't yet come to visit. This movie was filmed on the Windward side of Oahu where I live. The movie shows the true feel of lif
e in what the locals call "country". Drew Barrymore and Adam Sandler were both excellent in their characters, but Rob Schneider as Ula was perfect. He obviously has spent some time with local Hawaiians, we all said right-on and laughed out loud. People who think there is nothing to see on Oahu should definitely see this movie.

The Farrelly brothers continue their good-natured winning streak with Fever Pitch, a romantic comedy charmed by fate and last-minute improvisation. The movie was originally written with a bittersweet ending, but something unexpected happened (kismet, or perhaps divine intervention?) when the Boston Red Sox scored miraculous victories in the 2004 playoffs and World Series, and Drew Barrymore and Jimmy Fallon were there, in character, to celebrate love and baseball as a pair of amiable lovers who learn to share their lives while accommodating Fallon's life-long passion for the Red Sox. You really have to love baseball to forgive the formulaic romance by veteran Hollywood screenwriters Lowell Ganz and Babaloo Mandel (who also wrote A League of Their Own, and could write this stuff in their sleep), but the codirecting Farrellys make it work, along with the easygoing chemistry of Barrymore and Fallon. The movie bears little resemblance to Nick Hornby's source novel (which was more faithfully adapted as a 1997 British comedy starring Colin Firth), but anyone who enjoyed High Fidelity or About a Boy will recognize Hornby's keen understanding of men and women, and the hazards we all endure when playing the game of love. --Jeff Shannon
Description
According to Red Sox super-fan Ben Wrightman (Jimmy Fallon), finding romance is about as likely as his beloved team winning the World Series. But when Ben scores a beautiful new girlfriend (Drew Barrymore), suddenly anything is possible. Now the two passions in his life have a chance to go all the way... if he doesn't strike out first.

To all Red Sox Fans!.......2007-05-08
If you're a true blue New Englander, you'll love this light romantic comedy. Jimmy Fallon is hilarious in his depiction of an overly zealous Red sox fan witnessing the demise of the "curse of the bambino" and the winning of the world series.
FUNNY ROMANTIC COMEDY WORTH WATCHING.......2007-04-10
Barrymore and Fallon work well together in this sports nut romantic comedy. One of the better ones I've seen in a while. A good DVD transfer and some funny extras make this a good buy.
Funny Movie...just a bit harsh in some ways........2007-03-11
I really like the Red Sox Trivia and memorabilia found in this movie. It was so fun to see so many of my favorite Red Sox Memories on a movie screen. I thought that Jimmy Fallon and Drew Barrymore did a great job. There was a great chemistry bewteen them. That is to say...I was convinced that they were in love. The ending of the movie was great. I liked the drama of watching Lindsay run across Fenway Park just to get back together with Ben before he sells his tickets. I think the best word to use when describing this movie is "cute."
However, I'm just tired of watching movies that make men look like idiots. Clearly, the main focus of this film is the stupidity of men and how they need women to teach them how to act appropriatly. I mean, in many ways, Ben is no more mature than an eight year old. That is an extreme and unfair portrayal of male baseball fans in my opinion.
Baseball Obsession Becomes a Relationship Hurdle in a Genial Rom-Com.......2007-02-05
At the core of this genial, by-the-numbers 2005 rom-com is a great idea - can a die-hard Boston Red Sox fan find a loving relationship with anything but his season tickets at Fenway Park? The Farrelly Brothers, Bobby and Peter, seem like the ideal choice for the potential comic hi-jinks, but it turns out to be a much softer, more predictable film than I hoped it would be. The plot focuses on Ben, a high school geometry teacher whose lifelong obsession with the Red Sox has obscured other aspects of his life. Through a field trip with a group of his students, he meets Lindsey, a successful executive at a firm that appears to specialize in statistical information. Given that Ben is a man-child and Lindsey has exalted expectations about men that need to be cut down a few pegs, they hit it off, especially after he nurses her through a strenuous bout with food poisoning. But things start to go rather awry when spring training begins. The rest is pretty formulaic until it hits a crisis point just before the Red Sox turn it around and become play-off contenders. Real-life events intrude upon the plot as we know the Red Sox won the 2004 World Series.
Although he is convincing as a baseball fanatic, Jimmy Fallon is a bit too herky-jerky a screen persona to be entirely comfortable as a romantic lead. As Lindsey, Drew Barrymore, however, appears to be maturing into a fine comic actress. At her most idiosyncratic moments, she reminds me a bit of Jean Arthur. The rest of the cast is made up of ensembles of actors representing his and her friends and his Sox-based family in his ticket section at Fenway. Even with welcome faces like Ione Skye (where has she been since ""Say Anything"?) and Marissa Jaret Winokur of Broadway's "Hairspray" as two of Lindsey's friends and even JoBeth Williams as her mother, the characters remain pretty much generic filler. The predictable elements should come as no surprise since Lowell Ganz and Babaloo Mandel, the team behind Billy Crystal's generic 1990's comedies, wrote the screenplay. Regardless, there is a certain charm that persists through the whole venture. The 2005 DVD has the usual assortment of extras - insightful though sometimes random commentary by the Farrellys on an alternate track, an eight-minute making-of short produced for the FOX network, two-minute featurettes on the love story angle and the Red Sox's comeback over the Yankees, thirteen deleted scenes of varying interest, a so-so gag reel and the theatrical trailer.
