Brittany Murphy uses her ditzy/sexy combination to maximum effect in <I>Uptown Girls</I>. Molly Gunn (Murphy) is an heiress living off the estate of her dead rock star father--until an unscrupulous accountant embezzles everything and Molly has to get a job. After a failed attempt at retail work, Molly finds herself as the nanny for a prematurely humorless and rigid little girl named Ray (Dakota Fanning, <I>I Am Sam</I>), whose music mogul mother Roma (Heather Locklear) hardly ever sees her. Meanwhile, Molly woos an English musician who's trying to get a record contract from Roma. Unsurprisingly, Ray teaches Molly to take some responsibility for herself, while Molly gives Ray the opportunity to become the child she is--but despite the formulaic quality of the story, the two actresses play off each other well, and something unexpectedly touching emerges. Also featuring Marley Shelton (<I>Sugar & Spice</I>). <I>--Bret Fetzer</I>

Uptown Girls Metro Golden Mayer Trade Mark, 2003, 92 minutes, price varies Story by: Allison Jacobs

One night, Molly gets dressed up for her twenty-second birthday party. A bunch of people were there, except for Molly's parents, for they died when she was a little girl. Molly used to be rich, but was now poor, so then one morning she came to find that she had been kicked out of her apartment due to not fully paying her bills. For money, she gets a job as a nanny, and is now responsible for a nine year old brat, Ray. Molly is now living with Ing, her mature best friend. However, she is forced out of the house when they get into a fight. So, Molly moves in with another best friend, a dark skin man named Huey, (he is a choreographer). Finally deciding that she cannot depend on others for a living, Molly sells a guitar collection, the only memory of her parents, (her father was a famous singer), and then buys a tiny apartment with the money.

Molly continues to deal with Ray, who is mature and neat but can still be a disrespectful brat. However, through many miserable days, they help each other through times of sadness, sickness, and even happiness. A hard time is when Ray's dad dies. Ray then becomes mad at Molly because Molly promised Ray that her dad would come out of his coma and not die if Ray talked to him and loved him. So, when Ray's dad died the next day, Ray's mom announces, "Molly, we have decided to let you go," Molly was sad, she had lost her new best friend! However, she got her back by coming to Ray's ballet recital. In the end, Molly finds many new friends to depend on in times of trouble, and even though she and Molly are thirteen years apart, they will be like sisters, together forever.

My opinion of this movie is that it is "two thumbs up!" There are many reasons to prove this! One is because I can always somehow feel or relate to the main characters. Also, this movie has a great atmosphere, and the writer of this movie definitely kept in mind the famous saying of "no tears for the writer, no tears for the reader", or in this case, watcher! Lastly, a reason why I like the movie "Uptown Girls" is because it has a unique plot, setting, and characters.

"Uptown Girls" is a great movie for movie nights! I recommend it to mature ten year olds, (no younger than ten because I first watched this movie when I was ten and there were a few parts that were inappropriate), up to any age! Even adults will love this movie that is both mature and immature! I hope that you and some friends can watch this movie and enjoy it, just like I did!

4 out of 5 stars Uptown Girls!.......2007-04-29

Touching, funny, and true to life, this movie fallows the characters Molly and Ray. Molly is a spoiled rich girl, spawn of her dead rock star father. When her inheritance money is gone, she has to turn to work, which she has just discovered. She starts her first job, being the nanny to a little rich girl named "Ray", who is more serious then Molly.
"Act your age, not your shoe size," says little Ray, who is, of course, more mature compared to immature and undependable Molly.
But, the girls begin to grow on eachother and depend on one another, discovering what it is like to have someone that you depend on greatly and love like a sister.

5 out of 5 stars I loved this movie!.......2007-04-06

Molly Gun is a spoiled rich girl who likes to have fun and spend her money. Ray is a rich eight-year-old girl whose mother neglects her. When Molly loses her money, she goes to work as Ray's nanny. They don't get along at first, but they both soon become good friends. Ray acts way too mature for her age, while Molly is a little immature for her. Molly teaches Ray to act like a child, while Ray gives Molly a lesson in what it takes to be a grown-up. Heather Locklear plays Ray's mother, a selfish horrible witch who doesn't care or understand her daughter. She gives her gifts so she doesn't have to spend time with her. When Ray really needs someone to help her, she instead turns to Molly. It's a funny, cute movie and some parts of it even made me cry like where Ray and Molly are spinning in the teacups and then Ray starts to cry and she runs into Molly's arms. Great movie with a great message.

5 out of 5 stars The spoiled princess's of Manhattan........2007-03-30

Uptown Girls starring Brittany Murphy and Dakota Fanning is quite delightful about a rich girl (Murphy) who loses her inheritance and must become one of the normal people - she has to get a real job (gasp!). Donald Faison and Heather Locklear also star. Fanning has never been more than a pain in the rump for this particular role but she is one of the most talented young actress' since Jodie Foster. Murphy has great range as an actress, every role she commits to, she delivers a clean, enerergtic performance as always. The ending is so cute that it's embarrassing. This movie works so well, it's predictable, melodramatic, and formulatic but I defintely enjoyed this feel-good comedy from two gifted actress'.

5 out of 5 stars "Uptown Girls" is a very enjoyable movie.......2007-01-12

"Uptown Girls" focuses on the friendship that develops between Ray (an 8 year-old going on 30) and Molly, her nanny, who acts her shoe size rather than her age. For those who have not seen this movie, it may appear corny or designed for a younger audience; however, it is much more of an adult film than it may outwardly appear. In her usual fashion, Dakota Fanning gives an outstanding performance, with an aptitude for acting well beyond her years. Ray and Molly's disparate personalities result in many clashes, but eventually they teach each other how to act their age - a very important life lesson.

One of Hilary Duff's most attractive qualities is that she's not a borderline anorexic like too many Hollywood starlets; she has a warm, full-bodied presence that makes her dangerously glossy prettiness accessible. Similarly, Heather Locklear--who's been an iconic plastic blonde on television for decades--is cultivating a bruised humanity as she matures. These two combine forces in <I>The Perfect Man</I>, a curious teen comedy/adult romance hybrid about a single mother named Jean (Locklear, <I>Melrose Place</I>) whose tactic for getting over a broken heart is to move to a different part of the country, uprooting her two daughters Holly and Zoe (Duff, <I>Cheaper by the Dozen</I>, and newcomer Aria Wallace) in the process. Holly, to keep her mother from falling into another desperate and doomed relationship, uses advice from a schoolfriend's uncle (Chris Noth, <I>Sex and the City</I>) to send Jean flowers and love letters from a secret admirer. Of course, sustaining this fantasy requires some wacky antics, but <I>The Perfect Man</I> balances goofiness with an emotional mother/daughter tug-of-war and has some entertaining supporting actors (including Caroline Rhea, <I>Sabrina, the Teenage Witch</I>, and Carson Kressley, <I>Queer Eye for the Straight Guy</I>). The plot, however, has holes so big that it collapses even as it unfolds. <I>--Bret Fetzer</I>

Description

Hilary Duff, Heather Locklear and Chris Noth star in this hilarious yet heartwarming comedy about mothers, daughters and the outrageous lengths people will go to for love. Holly Hamilton (Duff) is on a mission to find her single mom (Locklear) a perfect man….Even if she has to make that man up! Without other options, she creates an imaginary secret admirer based on a charming restaurateur (Noth). But this scheme keeps Holly on her toes more than it actually sweeps her mother off her feet. One crazy mishap after another leads the two of them to discover that sometimes what you're looking for is already right in front of you.

5 out of 5 stars The Perfect Man.......2007-06-13

The Perfect Man $12.99
Rating-PG 1Hr. 41 Mins.

The Perfect Man is about a girl, Holly Hamilton (Hillary Duff), her mother, Jean Hamilton (Heather Locklear). The main idea that happens is well, the Hamilton family moves around a lot. Not because they don't like where they are, it's because when-ever Jean (Locklear) doesn't find the perfect man she ends up hooking up with some loser, "some guy that isn't even good enough to mop the floors" (said by Hillary Duff in the movie) and when it doesn't work out because it basically never works out they pack up and move again. Holly (Duff) is getting sick of moving around and doesn't want to anymore. So when she meets her new friend's uncle, she makes up a man based on her friend's uncle that sends her flowers, notes, presents and more, but when she finally makes the plan to have her meet him they can't meet because she sent her mom a picture of the secret admirer and he has no idea that this happening.

I think this is a good movie because I like things that are funny and heartwarming and this id that kind of movie. I also think it is exciting because you never know what Holly (Duff) is going to do to trick her mother next.

I would recommend this movie for kids about 8 to adult. It is the kind of movie that any age girl would like to watch. So, watch this movie and learn how to be a good member of your' family.

4 out of 5 stars Nice, family movie.......2007-05-13

It's a nice movie for the whole family. It has some comedy, it's sensible teaches a lesson and it's a movie that the whole family can see together.
Hilary Duff actes very good and makes a very good match of mother and daughter with Heather Locklear. The 3 girls(duff, locklear and sister) make a nice litte family.

5 out of 5 stars Awesome DVD.......2007-01-22

5 out of 5 stars Perfect is right!!!! one of my favorite movies!!.......2006-12-16

All of you Hillary duff haters out there you should watch this movie because it will change your mind about her. She is very cute and good in this movie and her acting has really grown since her last movie which I don't remember what that movie was called. Hillary Duff is very charming in this movie and so is Heather Lockleer who is very cute and she is pretty because she is married to the Bon Jovi. I put this movie on my Chrismas list for the DVD because I have only seen it once on HBO at Katie's birthday party last May. I think there were alot of funny lines in this movie that I will be qouting for a long time to come and Hillary Duff's costumes and Heather's hair were all fun to watch and look at. Anyway all in all this movie was cute and funny and Hilary Duff is a fantastic actress too. The Perfect Man is the PERFECT movie for anyone who likes to laugh and watch funny movies.

5 out of 5 stars I loved this movie.......2006-12-15

This movie was awesome. Hilary did great playing Holly. It was very funny. I watch it once everyday after school. That's how much I love it. Buy this movie. You will love it.

3 out of 5 stars Buy it only for the original........2007-02-13

The first firestarter was a great film, but the uneeded sequel sucks. Buy this only for the first.

3 out of 5 stars Nice Being Able To See Both Films.......2006-12-29

Let's, see; how to explain this? If you are a real Stephen King fan, you might not like either version of Firestarter as neither version is like the book, but I've read the book which is quite long and if everything that was in the book was put into a movie, that movie would be about six hours long. However the original 1984 version of Firestarter comes close to the book in many ways, but its problem is that the movie could have been just a little longer and filled in a bit more of the background.

The new movie does that, but it's a form of revisionist history. Things happen in the 2nd movie differently from the original movie, and from the book as well. For the purist, this is not quite a good thing. I sat through the movie saying "now that didn't happen like that," that didn't happen that way," and so on, comparing the differences and not quite enjoying the film. The problem is, the second film is not all that enjoyable as the star of this film is no longer the cute Drew Barrymore nor are the other actors up to the quality and caliber of the ones in the first movie.

Somebody who has never read the book (which is one of King's better books) or seen the first movie, might enjoy Firestarter 2, which is more a strange combination of the Scanners and X-Men movies than a Stephen King piece. As science fiction stories go, it's okay; and despite what the DVD cover says, this is a science fiction story and not anything supernatural. It's not bad, but it could have been so much better. I give it three stars. Look at this film first, then compare it with the original film; then you decide which is the better film.

3 out of 5 stars Somebody needs to shoot the producer.......2006-07-10

Now I have seen my share fo good movies and read some really good books and I have to say that of all the books and all the movies, Stephen Kings orignal Firestarter has to be one of my absolute favorites. I have read this story enough to know it backwards and forward. It is a story that I have a invested a lot of time viewing and reviewing. So when I learned that there was going to be a sequel I had really high expectations.

In the sequel we are first introduced to how Charlie lost her mother. This is something that avid Firestarter followers will see as a studio seen pitch to add drama and effect to a story that is needs none. Not to give the story away for fan but it can be safe to say that the writers, and the directors didnt bother to research the book or the storyline enough to know how this happened out in the original. Had that time for the research been done it would have probably been accepted. Secondly we are introduced to a group of survivors of the original experiment. This is something that is a direct contridiction of the original book, becuase there were only 2 survivors and they married, raised a child, and then killed. Other then that there were no Lot Six survivors, in the movie. In the book however there were 2, on man that was kept in a small room on an island compound, and of course Charlie McGee.

Finally and this is what I found the most distrubing, the charater played by George C. Scott, (John Rainbird) has been re introduced in to the story, He is no longed the cold calculated killer that burned to death in the barn from the last story, now he is a scientest. Not just any scientest he is someone that is some how part of the Lot Six program. A program that was has not spawned several children that have "special" abilities.

According to the book and to the orignal movie, the reason that they wanted Charlie in the first place was because she was the only person that had any abilities as a result of the Lot 6 Experiment that didnt tax the body physically. That was why they wanted her to begin with. She was supposed to be used as a weapon. A weapon.

If you are going to re make a movie at least read the original. Case in point "Back to the Future."

3 out of 5 stars 3 TO 4 STARS!.......2005-04-05

First of all, the movie is quite good overall! i wouldn't of expected anything like what it actually was. It's not a horror, scary movie, therefore not a film for someone looking for a scary movie!!!

3 out of 5 stars Me And Charlie McGee..........2005-03-12

Drew Barrymore is not bad at all as little Charlene "Charlie" Mcgee. She's afflicted with pyrokenesis (starting fires w/ her mind) handed down to her by her mum Vicky (Heather Lockleer) and dad Andy (David Keith), who were both injected with an experimental serum by a secret government organization called "The Shop". Now Charlie is on the run with dad, trying to escape the clutches of the nefarious shop operatives who've already killed mum! Unfortunately, an assassin named Rainbird (George C. Scott) wants Charlie for his own demented reasons. Along with Capt. Hollister (Martin Sheen), Rainbird plans on exploiting Charlie's powers, then killing her with a quick blow to the head! He's a sick one! As much as I like Drew Barrymore in this, FIRESTARTER has it's lame moments of pure cheese, like when Mum's oven mits burst into flames, whatta riot! Or when flaming mannequins (shop agents) fly through trees at Charlie's instigation during the blazing climax! Still, it's not a terrible movie, just not a classic. Then, there's FIRESTARTER 2: REKINDLED, a nearly 3 hour sequel that suffers from a bloated storyline that could have easily been squeezed into an hour! Charlie's all grown up now, and suffering from nightmares from her past, as well as that pesky burning thing. She is unaware that Rainbird (Now played by Malcolm McDowell) is alive (?!) and still infatuated with her. He's also raised up a small army of kids with various psychic abilities (sort of a bratty version of Village Of The Damned). These kids are being trained as weapons of course, and will ultimately face Charlie in an all-too-whimpy showdown. Dennis Hopper (Night Tide, Blue Velvet) is also in this as Richardson, a clairvoyant with the personality of day-old oatmeal. REKINDLED has far more smoke than fire, and seems almost endless to sit through! It's more or less a freebie tacked on to the infinitely superior original. So, grab some marshmallows and roast 'em by the TV screen! Enjoy...

Why it took them nearly 10 years to put out a LIVE Concert I don't know. Yes, KTF was a MTV concert type thing, that audience was not in sync nor 1 tenth of excitement. This show is very fun, energetic and obviously somehow either on their own or coaching for nearly 70,000+ fans to sing, sway and clap all in sync amazed me. The songs are great and the essence of 80's is there in the props and energy Jon shows. Only thing is editing, a lil too much in the sense of Richie and Jon changing clothes right after finishing a song and starting another one, lol. But no matter, the show and his vocals are pitch perfect after the first 10 years, makes you feel like you wish you were there and why americans can't wave our hands the same direction, lol.

This is a great DVD and a great show and also a great band! I think there are only two things I would change...I would have like more songs in theis concert although the ones in it are great! And I think it would have been amazing if the sound was 5.1. It sounds OK in stereo though.
I highly recommend this DVD and Im looking forward to buy the Crush tour Live!

This video is excellent. I've been looking for it for several years. I live in Panama and I watch it in 1996 but I've never been an internet buyer. This is the first time I get something from the internet, and I don't regret it, this concert is amazing.

Somewhere in the world, there are probably people who don't understand why Mike Myers's character, Wayne Campbell, is funny--which is too bad. Granted, the laughs are often cheap and silly, but there's no one who can embody a comic character and riff within that character the way Myers does. Wayne and his pal Garth (Dana Carvey) were fixtures on <I>Saturday Night Live</I> before the unexpected success of <I>Wayne's World</I>, which is about what happened when they tried to take their local cable-access show citywide. This time, they want to stage Waynestock, a mammoth rock festival in their little Chicago suburb, even as Wayne copes with girlfriend Tia Carrere's interest in record-company exec Christopher Walken. For extra fun, Garth gets involved with the babelicious Kim Basinger. Yes, the humor is scattershot and the plot is lame--but you'll find yourself laughing nonetheless. <I>--Marshall Fine</I>

4 out of 5 stars A MUST SEE...OH YES! A MUST SEE.......2007-03-28

Comedy writers agree you don't write a joke on a joke. Wayne's World 2
is an exception. The movie works because Wayne (Mike Myers)( and Garth
(Dana Carvey) are among the very few comic actors who get laughs every time the camera points there way. A more likeable comic duo you'll rarely see. They are unpretentious and honestly likeable--like bad little
kids who broke your window but turned it into a joke. So how can you get mad?
Ok, you can say the movie's dumb. It is pointless. It goes for cheap laughs. True.
But when did you ever get a full
belly laugh from stoic Charlton Heston?
I rest my case.

4 out of 5 stars Not as good as the first but still manages to deliver several great laughs........2006-10-04

Altough not as good as the first on Waynes world 2 still manages to give you some of the same laughs you got from the first one. The main problem though is that its just not as original as the first one was. But don't let that fool you its still a good movie thats worth owning. I bought both of the movies in the complete epic boxed set and I have to say there some of my favorite comedy movies. Its just great to see Wayne and Garth again. I recommend buying both Waynes World 1 and 2.

2 out of 5 stars Yawn.....are we having fun yet?.......2006-09-03

I love Wayne's World. I love Wayne's World 2 more. NOT!!!!! This sequel is nowhere near as much fun as the original. "Fun" hardly makes an appearence in this flick. The jokes are weak; basically they just show us that they ran out of the good ones. It may be the change in directors, I don't know. All I know is this movie is not worth watching. It starts out like you would want a sequel to, and it stays that way.....for about 5 minutes. I turned it off about half way through. Thank God I only rented this one.

5 out of 5 stars "I had to beat them to death with their own shoes".......2006-04-25

This is more great comedy from the minds of the cast members of Saturday Night Live. Dana Carvey and Mike Myers are among my favorites, so Wayne's World has always been a favorite of mine.

In their ode to die-hard 80s hair band fans, Wayne and his faithful sidekick, Garth, set out on another adventure. This time around, Wayne begins to question his mortal purpose. He is soon visited in a dream by a naked indian man who leads him through the desert sands to Jim Morrison. Morrison tells him that the purpose of his life is to put on a concert.

Of course, there are obstacles... Namely, Bobby (played by Christopher Walken), the smooth-talking and suave record producer in charge of managing Cassandra's (Wayne's girlfriend) budding music career.

Garth has issues of his own, though. He has just "gotten his first pubes", so he is eager to become familiarized with the ways of the woman. A snake of a woman, played by Kim Basinger attempts to take advantage of his innocence and loyal nature. The scenes Dana Carvey shares with Basinger are hilarious.

This is just a funny and ridiculous movie. With a good cast of actors, the story leads from one funny scene to the next. Carvey and Myers are great together...

Highly recommended for fans of SNL comedy.

4 out of 5 stars Great follow up to a great movie..........2006-01-18

Wayne's World 2, starring Mike Myers as Wayne and Dana Carvey as Garth is the short awaited sequal to the smash hit of 1992.

Wayne and Garth have moved out of the parents basement and now have their own place across town, still doing their low budget local access TV show and still worshipping every rock musician out there. Wayne and his girlfriend Cassandra, from the first movie are still an item only now she has a manager trying to help her get her career started.

This time Wayne has been sent a message from the spirt of Jim Morrison, of the Doors who tells Wayne he must put on a concert in Aurora and find the meaning of his life. Wayne takes the message very seriously and even flies to London, England to find Del Preston who used to be friends with Jim way back when. Now our duo must deal with putting on their TV show, raising enough money for a permit to hold the show Wayne titles "Waynstock" and deal with Cassandra being taken away from him by her manager. Not to mention Wayne has to prove himself worthy with Cassandra's father and Garth has a close encounter with a beautiful woman, Honey Hornee' (Kim Bassinger) who takes an instant liking to him but may be up to more then just a one night stand.

Overall the movie is on par with the first one. All the funny one liners and sight gags and situations fly by us with the same familiarity that the first gave us. We jump right back into the universe we left a year ago and it's like we never left it. A classic mock Kung Fu fight between Wayne and Cassandra's father with dubbed English while they talk is a priceless moment. As well as Wayne, Garth and two friends dressed up in outfits that the Village People music group wore spying on Cassandra and her manager only to be spotted by them and having to perform as said group in a Male only bar.

The only thing holding this movie back is that it seems too familiar, like we did this all before. There is enough original in this to make you forget the first but too much was taken from the first to make it more like a differnet version of the same. It still holds it own though quite well. Many more stars this time around play bit parts like for instance Drew Barrymore, Jay Leno, Heather Locklear, Metalica and Rip Taylor having parts that are just randomly thrusted upon us. Some play themselves while others playing differnet parts. Of course we can't forget the late and great Chris Farley who I must admit seemed a bit out of place in the part they gave him, but always cool to see him any time.

While some of the jokes were recycled from the first movie, Ie) the alternate ending and the new guy stealing Wayne's girlfriend from him while Wayne gets jealous all the while.. there are some great new gags. I loved the moment towards the end when Wayne stops at a gas station for directions and some bad old actor is giving Wayne some sad story about the street he is looking for only for Wayne to say he wants a better actor for this part and they suddenly change the actor before our eyes to someone better. Some new jokes didn't work like Wayne and Garth being lifted on their backs at the concert they are at and after they are placed down a lot of weird items are being sent in the same mannor to the security guards. That was probably one of those better on paper then it actually turned out to be moments that should have been left on the drawing board. It is also a bit dated, jokes that were funny in 1993 may seem a little silly now. For instance the Jurrasic Park moment but that's to be expected in these type of comedies. Usually popular pop culture of the time will be spoofed and if anything it brings back fun memories of yesteryear.

Overall if you enjoyed the first film, there is no reason not to get this one. It has all the same actors we loved, even a cameo from Ed O'Neil reprising his Glen role from the first. It may not have the same originality and charm the first did, but it is a welcome addition to any fan of a good comedy, follow up to a good film or something that the whole family can get a good laugh to.

The DVD has commentary from the director and about 20 minutes in little tidbits from the cast about moments in the film. More then worth it, especialy at the more then affordable price.

Check out the adventures of Wayne and Garth one last time as they put on the greatest concert in Aurora, IL history. You won't be sorry you did.

At the peak of <I>Looney Tunes: Back in Action</I>, Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck lead Elmer Fudd on a wild pursuit through famous paintings hanging in the Louvre, their animated selves absorbing the painting styles of Salvador Dali, Georges Seurat, Toulouse Lautrec, and others. That sequence manages to recapture the anarchic spirit of Warner Bros.' classic cartoons; unfortunately, not much else in this labored movie does. Technically, the merging of live actors and cartoon characters is impressive, as Brendan Fraser and Jenna Elfman team up with Bugs and Daffy to save the world by keeping a magical diamond out of the hands of the evil Acme Corporation, headed by a nerdy, prancing Steve Martin. Just about every Warner Bros. character makes an appearance, as do Timothy Dalton, Heather Locklear, and the ever-dependable comic delight of Joan Cusack (<I>In and Out</I>, <I>School of Rock</I>). <I>--Bret Fetzer</I>

5 out of 5 stars Looney Tunes Back In Action The Movie Film Review.......2007-06-14

Review:

Any Looney Tunes Fan that has yet to see: "Looney Tunes Back In Action The Movie" has indeed missed out on the latest genius of ... Mel Blanc and the award winning characters that are so famous for their well-crafted stupidity. It was the first movie I've ever seen where live acting was mixed with drawn-in characters. The funniest movie I've ever seen, came out years ago and I just haven't' had the chance to write a review for it. My mistake... Just 2 hours of pure Looney Tunes humor is engraved on back of you DVD with care. Watch it today, but first write down the # of your nearest therapist, for when you can't stop laughing!

Daffy Duck has had it with constantly playing second fiddle and fall guy to Bugs Bunny. He demands to be featured in the next Looney Tunes movie, but new President of Warner Brothers Comedy, Kate (Jenna Elfman), fires him instead. Daffy attaches himself to security officer/stunt man DJ Drake (Brendan Fraser). They arrive back at Drake's house, which he shares with his father Damien, only to find that the elder Drake (Timothy Dalton) has been kidnapped. Seems he was searching for the Blue Diamond, trying to keep it out of the hands of the evil ACME Corporation and their chairman (Steve Martin).

Meanwhile, the executives aren't happy about Kate firing Daffy. She has the weekend to track down the duck. So she teams up with Bugs Bunny and sets out to bring him back. Can they do it? Will DJ save his father? And just how many cameos can they fit in this movie?

This movie is absolutely hilarious. I'm not a Looney Tunes fanatic but have enjoyed them when I have seen them. Still, I found myself laughing the entire way through. While I caught many of the references, I'm sure there are lots more that die hard fans would love. Every Looney Tunes characters shows up at some point, adding to the fun. The human actors do a great job of reacting to their cartoon counterparts, and the animation, while two dimensional, fits incredibly well in the real world.

This movie is perfect for the young and young at heart who love to laugh at stuff that's completely off the wall. It entertains the entire way through, keeping the laughs flowing.

5 out of 5 stars Terrific! Must see!!.......2006-08-26

We bought this on Amazon recently, because our first copy was watched so much, it got worn out and eventually cracked. Of all the movies that mix cartoons with real-life actors, this is the funniest and best made of all. The interaction between the actors and cartoons is so seamless that the actors and toons actually seem to have chemistry together. This movie really proves it--Brendan Fraser is at his best when doing comedy. If you don't own this movie yet, what are you waiting for? Get out your visa card, and start clicking the mouse!

Stephen King wasn't exactly in peak form when he wrote Firestarter, so this 1984 movie adaptation was at a disadvantage even before the cameras rolled. There were so many King movies being made at the time that this one's weaknesses became even more apparent. In her first film role after her memorable appearance in E.T., Drew Barrymore stars as a little girl whose parents acquired strange mental powers after participating in a secret government experiment. From this genetic background she has developed the mysterious ability to set anything on fire at will, especially when she's angry. That makes her very interesting to government officials seeking to exploit her skill as a secret weapon. Her father seeks to protect her by using his powers of mind-control, and George C. Scott plays an Indian who believes the girl must be destroyed. There's a routine climax involving a lot of impressive pyrotechnics, but none of this is grounded in a dramatically solid foundation, and none of the characters are developed enough for us to care about them. So the movie gradually turns into a laughable thriller with no suspense whatsoever. It's a movie only a pyromaniac could love. --Jeff Shannon

Description

Drew Barrymore stars as an eight-year-old girl with the amazing ability to start fires with just a glance. Can her power and the love of her father save her from the clandestine government agency, "The Shop," that wants her destroyed? From the Stephen King novel.

3 out of 5 stars Great film, not so great DVD........2007-02-13

Buy the new double collection, it has much better quality. Other than that, this is a great Stephen King adaptation and I would recomend it to King movie fans.

4 out of 5 stars Burn Baby Burn !.......2007-01-19

If you liked the movie called Scanners and if you liked the movie Christine, then you will probably like Firestarter. They are all similar pace wise and have some similar music in the background. I never read the Firestarter book so I can't compare them right now.

The acting is a little unbelievable when it comes to the secondary acting (ie goverment agents that act weird and goofy for no reason), but the main actors do a darn good job for how many takes they were given. Drew Barrymore is mostly realistic, except for two scenes where she seems to be at the end of a long day of shooting. David Keith has those hypnotic eyes and his bonding with Drew was quite good in realism. Freddie Jones has that panic look in his eyes, but he did better in Dune if you ask me. But then with the budget of Dune, you get more Freddie. Martin Sheen has some nice psycho moments and he gets similar screen time in the movie Spawn. Obviously he acts better in West Wing, but then he is pretty young in Firestarter. Art Carney plays an old farmer and he made me laugh a few times. Louise Fletcher has some small scenes on the farm as well, but to see her better, you should see One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest or Star Trek Deep Space Nine. George C. Scott plays a native american and I am not sure he pulls it off totally, but maybe he is half native american or something (they never say). But when George laughs in the movie, you cringe in your heart and you might even thank your lucky stars that George is not your uncle or father either !

The special effects show their age, but for no computer effects, it is pretty nice and poetic as the bad guys get their flaming body suits. Again, if you like the special effects of Christine the movie, then you should be able to handle this movie. The Pyro character in the X-Men movies has similar powers, but I grew up as the sci-fi special effects improved, so I can look past certain laws of physics being broken. However, one scene has Drew Barrymore almost getting run over by a huge truck on fire and I am still not sure how they did that stunt.

I watched the DVD as a rental, but last week I found the VHS tape for one dollar so it was worth it to me to own this flick.

5 out of 5 stars Turning the Heat Up.......2007-01-11

FIRESTARTER is one of Stephen King's best stories--surreal, yet plausible; both frightening and cheering. Drew Barrymore's performance warms hearts and burns villains. Great story, great movie--perhaps the star performance in Barrymore's career.

4 out of 5 stars I enjoyed this movie, but it had some weaknesses........2006-12-27

This movie was a decent though not perfect adaptation of the book. One problem was it tried to be heavy on star power. The cast includes Drew Barrymore, David Keith, Heather Locklear, Martin Sheen (in a role that Burt Lancaster was to play), George C. Scott, Art Carney, and Louise Fletcher. For the most part, this was not a problem, but can I picture George C. Scott playing a one eyed native American? Wasn't there a good native American to play that role?

The story is more a true science fiction story than a horror story. The government has secret experiments toying with paranormal activity. Two of the guinea pigs fall in love, get married, and . . . no, they don't live happily ever after. They have a daughter, and the government thugs kill the mother and try to kidnap the daughter, until the father intervenes. There are no supernatural evil creatures; just people with abnormal abilities up against bad human beings.

The movie can drag at points. It is not as effective as the book, which is nothing new. It was rated R due to the violence primarily. The acting on the part of Barrymore was not the greatest, either. But I found it an entertaining picture.

3 out of 5 stars Really more like 3.5 stars.......2006-10-15

The book was absolutely brilliant. I read it in 4 days. The movie rates only just better than average. Despite her Hollywood lineage, Drew Barrymore just doesn't strike me as a very poignant actress. E.T. and Charlie's Angels were her best flicks. Throughout the movie, Drew seems to slur her speech. She could have been high while performing since she did get hooked on drugs at a very early age. In my opinion, someone else should have been chosen to play Charlie McGee.

Even though this movie was made in the 80s, it still could have done better visual effects-wise. Star Wars, Empire Strikes Back, E.T. and Poltergeist came out the same period and were putting out some great supernatural feature films. Firestarter is substandard compared to its blockbuster counterparts. Doesn't seem as if much of a budget was committed...nor a script for that matter.

Nonetheless, the director did what he could while David Keith, George C. Scott and Martin Sheen carried the drama of the film. For the most part, the story turned out pretty decent.

This would fall right to the bottom of the Supernatural Movies pile, but it's still worth watching for entertainment value. On the otherhand, the sequel, Firestarter 2, is just plain horrid depsite the snappier special effects. Leave that one alone. The original is actually the better of the two.

2 out of 5 stars Human / Vegetable Romance..........2006-01-06

OK, this one is terrible if you're a jaded adult. I admit I hated it utterly. However, it's a kid movie. I mean, there's only one "bad" word in the whole movie, zero blood, no nudity, insufferable characters, lots of gunfire / explosions, and 80s TV-movie production values. SWAMP THING himself is a walking compost heap w/ a heart of mold... er, gold. He battles a leach-man and some hicks in order to save two intensely annoying brats and Abigail (Heather Locklear) from certain doom. Abby's step-dad is none other than Dr. Arcane (Louis Jordan), sociopathic megalomaniac and mad scientist. Arcane's looking for a way to reverse the aging process, apparently by turning people into mutated freakazoids! I found this movie tedious and dumb, but I know I'd have loved it as a kid. Swampy even shows Abby some good ol' fashioned swamp-love! Hallucinegenic seedpods anyone?? So, shift yer brain into neutral and coast through this one! P.S.- If you're just looking for a good Jim Wynorski movie, check out CHOPPING MALL...

5 out of 5 stars Great silly sequel!.......2005-09-29

The original film by Wes Craven was a tiny bit darker but still had lots of dark humor etc... This sequel seeks to be more campy and just plain fun. Its a fun film that just cant be taken seriously, like MOST B Movies! However it did do well enough to generate a tv show!

5 out of 5 stars For those of us who "get" it, a masterpiece........2004-07-25

I guess you either "get" this sort of fun cheesey movie, or you don't. This is one of my all time favorites, ever since I was a kid. Better than the first movie, especially the Swamp Thing suit. Return of Swamp Thing is a fun, entertaining classic flick. It's not supposed to be scary, or complex. Just enjoy it!!

HIGHLY recommended. Wonderful movie. =D

5 out of 5 stars Swamp Thing rules.............2003-03-28

Swamp Thing rules... even though this is a campy movie The Return of Swamp Thing is fun. If you like superhero, monster movies and camp rolled into one then this is the movie for you. The best part of this movie is the opening credits with that rock and roll song. This is one of the better Superhero movies... 10times better than THE Captain America, Fantastic Four and The Punisher movies that were never release. Right up there with Batman Returns and Superman 4.

3 out of 5 stars Fairly decent........2003-03-27

Florid of face and flamboyant of voice, William Shatner oozes smarmy self-importance with the barest sliver of irony...yet that sliver transforms him from unbearable to bizarrely charming. Mock him all you want--and you will--but the man is unstoppable; <I>T. J. Hooker</I> was his fifth TV series (not counting assorted mini-series or the animated version of <I>Star Trek</I>), with more to come. As a freshly-divorced, middle-aged cop who--out of either proletariat zeal or just a bad attitude--would rather pound a beat than be a detective, Shatner swaggers around in a sausage-tight uniform and lush wig of curly hair, casually spouting right-wing speeches and fearlessly hurling himself onto moving vehicles. With cocky Adrian Zmed (<I>Bachelor Party</I>) and mischievous Heather Locklear (another TV diehard, co-starring in this show and <I>Dynasty</I> simultaneously) as co-stars/eye-candy, <I>T. J. Hooker</I> is a glorious slice of Aaron Spelling cheese.

The brief first season--only five episodes--delved into the dark side of Hooker's character, brooding over booze and mounting debts, riding his recruits because of his own regrets. All that went out the window as the second season roared into action, turning Hooker into a standard tough guy with a heart of gold. But the classic Spelling elements were there from the start: Almost every case involves a relative or an old friend; the bad guys announce their sleaziness from the moment they appear; and no opportunity to show a little skin is missed (short-shorts and tight, nipple-emphasizing tops are <I>de rigueur</I>). Featuring street gangs, snipers, Bible-toting psychos, baby-faced arsonists (a very young David Caruso, <I>NYPD Blue</I>), and vengeful cops (Shatner's old pal Leonard Nimoy), <I>T. J. Hooker</I> had no pretensions to anything but roiling melodrama with some midlevel stunts thrown in every few episodes. It all rests on whether or not you like Shatner. If you do, you'll hug yourself when Hooker's ex-wife tells him, as if intoning a zen koan, "You'll do your best, and I know you already have, because you always do." No commentaries, alas; the only extra is a pointless compilation of "Next week on <I>T. J. Hooker</I>" snippets. <I>--Bret Fetzer</I>

5 out of 5 stars He gives a damn!.......2007-05-21

He's divorced, he drinks double-bourbons, he carries a .357 non-police issue Magnum and he likes to use it. He's T.J. Hooker and he's out to sweep the filth off the streets so if you are a pusher, junkie, pimp, bleeding heart liberal or just walk on the cracks in the sidewalk then stay clear of Hooker: You are in his sights.

A prime slice of Spelling-Goldberg Reagan era chesseball TV TJ Hooker is Dirty Harry, Judge Dread and Sledgehammer all rolled into one streetwise cop fuelled by Quincey M.E. levels of moral indignation and mid-life-crisis anxiety about society going to hell in a handcart. And while not on duty he knocks back doubles in his favourite bar; Mid City Bar...........before er, driving home.

Not for the po faced. Get it now.

3 out of 5 stars Excellent video quality - Poor execution .......2007-05-19

Sony seems more interested in preventing you from copying their DVDs, than they are creating a menu / case art that actually matches the content of the set. Nearly every menu and liner note is incorrect. It is quite annoying if you are attempting to find a certain episode. One of the reasons I purchased this set was because others said that there were a couple of season three episodes included... Particularly, "Carnal Knowledge," which was one of my all time favorites (as a fan of Heather Locklear." Well if that episode was included in this set (by mistake or otherwise), it has been removed, now. I don't blame Sony for that - the joke is on me!
I will rent instead of buying in the future...

5 out of 5 stars T.J.Hooker show review.......2007-05-12

If you like Cop T.V.Shows,this is the one.Willam shatner plays the head cop who teaches new future police officers to be good cops. The show is great, also in the show is Adrian Zemed who plays A rookie, also Heather Locklear. The story lines are great. This is a must have.I just love the show.

4 out of 5 stars Great to have the 80's back on TV.......2007-04-11

Good picture and good program. I now enjoy it more then back in the 80's may be because it reminds me of great times. One thing I would like on all TV series is the option of spanish audio which I notice more and more series are adding it, that would be great for a lot of people and won't harm those who do not use it. It's great to get the complete season instead of vol. 1 of season 1 like FOX and Paramount are starting to do. Thanks for that Sony Pictures.

4 out of 5 stars "FUN" 80's police drama. They don't make them like this anymore!.......2007-03-25

You're not going to get "reality" with this show. It's simple ENTERTAINMENT... 80's style. There's something very enjoyable about watching William Shatner chase a bus on foot (while running on top of a wall beside the street) and then leaping on top of the bus! There are a LOT of scenes like that in this series, and it's downright FUN.

The acting can sometimes be WAY over the top, the plots are simple and sometimes full of holes, but that's JUST the way we like it! We ALL have guilty pleasures, and after watching (and enjoying) "T.J. Hooker" you'll probably feel very GUILTY.

Shatner is fantastic. The theme song is GREAT. The Nostalgia factor is HIGH!

* It's been nearly TWO YEARS since the release of this DVD set and we NEED season THREE!
