The folks at Pixar can do no wrong with <I>Monsters, Inc.</I>, the studio's fourth feature film, which stretches the computer animation format in terms of both technical complexity and emotional impact. The giant, blue-furred James P. "Sulley" Sullivan (wonderfully voiced by John Goodman) is a scare-monster extraordinaire in the hidden world of Monstropolis, where the scaring of kids is an imperative in order to keep the entire city running. Beyond the competition to be the best at the business, Sullivan and his assistant, the one-eyed Mike Wazowski (Billy Crystal), discover what happens when the real world interacts with theirs in the form of a 2-year-old baby girl dubbed "Boo," who accidentally sneaks into the monster world with Sulley one night. Director Pete Doctor and codirectors David Silverman and Lee Unkrich follow the Pixar (<I>Toy Story</I>) blueprint with an imaginative scenario, fun characters, and ace comic timing. By the last heart-tugging shot, kids may never look at monsters the same, nor artists at what computer animation can do in the hands of magicians. <I>--Doug Thomas</I>
Description
From the Academy Award(R)-winning creators of TOY STORY comes the computer-animated film that captured the hearts of fans and critics everywhere. MONSTERS, INC., is "visually dazzling, action-packed, and hilarious" (Boston Herald), featuring groundbreaking animation, imaginative storytelling, and unforgettable voice talent. John Goodman stars as the lovable James P. Sullivan (Sulley) and Billy Crystal as his wisecracking best friend, Mike Wazowski. Top scarer Sulley and his enthusiastic Scare Assistant Mike work at Monsters, Inc., the largest scream-processing factory in Monstropolis. The main power source of the monster world is the collected screams of human children. Monsters believe children are dangerous and toxic, however, and they are scared silly when a little girl wanders into their world. Sulley and Mike do their best to return the girl home, but they face monstrous intrigue and some hilarious misadventures along the way. MONSTERS, INC., is "supremely clever -- fun for kids and adults alike" (CBS-TV). Treat yourself to the most entertaining movie of the year with all-new exclusive bonus features and animation for monster laughs and monster fun.
Customer Reviews:
WOW!! What a great movie.. This movie should live on FOREVER!!!.......2007-06-22
This movie was great and it was really enjoyable and funny. I have had this movie since it came out as I went to see it in the movie theater. This would be my favorite movie of all time. Sulley(James P. Sullivan) and Mike Wazowski (the main characters of this movie) are my favorite characters in this movie and are my two favorite characters in any movie. Randall Boggs would be my third favorite character in the movie because he makes me LAUGH!! But he gets destroyed into a trailor during my favorite part of the movie which is when Mike and Sulley are hanging or flying on doors to try to get Boo home. Boo is my least favorite character in this movie because she CRIES a lot during the movie and just not my favorite. Celia, who Mike is in love with isn't all that great too. But I think Roz is great. She makes me laugh when she tells Mike that he didn't turn in his paperwork. and Mr. Waternoose would be my 5th and last most favorite character in this movie till he gets arrested by the CDA. Also, the part where Mike and Sulley go to Himalayas is great because they're in a BLIZZARD!! The worst part of the movie is when Sulley and Mike take Boo home that's when I feel to cry. But overall, this is a really great movie which I wish I could give this 10 stars. Please get this movie but Shrek s$cked!!!
Best film of the year.
Power-ful Kiddie Entertainment.......2007-06-21
Some of the best stories for children have presented their worst fears only to have the menace brought down to size. "Jack and the Beanstalk" works that way perfectly. 'Monsters, Inc.' helps to tuck the kiddies in and give them the giggles, too. Taking near day-glow colors, the Monsters in this fluid Pixar picture are hideously cute. They live in a "green" world where the renewable resource of children's fright powers the Monster community. Looking like the sorts in (Lucas Films, Ltd. is credited here) a 'Star Wars' bar scene, the film's focus is on the power company where the employees go through magic doors, their portals to children's bedrooms where the fright factor generates their power plant.
Heading the troops is big blue "Sully" (John Goodman) a good natured monster, proud of his ability to be the equivalent of "Employee of the Month". Keeping track of his generating power, he is out to set a plant record. His green, one-eyed sidekick, Mike Wazowski, (Billy Crystal) has a Martian appearance, but his voice couldn't scare a mouse. He is smitten by one-eyed purple princess, Shroopsy with hydra hair (snake braids). They all face their competition with rascally Randall, (perfectly villainous, Steve Buscemi) the salamander-like monster with invisible capabilities. Pivotal to the plot is Mr. Waternoose, (James Coburn) a tycoon who resembles a tarantula in a three-piece suit. In the causality is 'Silkwood'-like contamination if any child or remnant remains in the Monster world. (In other words: Just like parents often say about insects or some animals: "They're more afraid of [children], than [they] are of them.") Sully and James come across "Boo" whom they find in their best interests to return to the dark realm of her own bedroom.
Formidable to the fore, 'Monsters,..." takes a premise that could have been a dumb non-starter, and provides supporting plot structures with enough heft to turn the adventure on. With Pixar animation, the movement is flowing enough to take the technological edge off the look, and Andrew Stanton and Daniel Gerson's screenplay keep the dialogue fresh and funny. Director Pete Docter gives the movie proper assembly. 'Monsters, Inc.' is therapeutically good for children's dreamscapes as well as their funny bones. (Highly recommended to rent and to own.)
Pixar Created A Classic!.......2007-06-14
Monsters Inc is a great piece that your family will love! Loveable monsters are brought to life and make you laugh a lot! Laughter is more powerful than screams you know. A loveable classic for any collection!
Great movie.......2007-06-13
Hey it's Mike,
Wow!! What a great movie this is. This is by far my favorite movie due to the presence of Mike and Sulley. There is not a lot of great movies out there, but this one is one of the very best!! Sulley, Mike, Randall, Roz, and Waternoose are all great characters and 3 of them are really funny! Boo and Celia are my two least favorite characters in the film. The best part of this movie is the Flying on Doors part where Randall gets destroyed.
The end is the saddest part of the movie when Sulley and Mike take Boo home.
Well this movie is the best as I wish that I can give this much more than 5 stars like a million stars. Please buy.
One of my very favorite movies.......2007-06-10

Destined for cult status, this provocative thriller offers a grab bag of genres (gangster movie, comedy, sexy romance, crime caper) and tops it all off with steamy passion between lesbian ex-con Corky (Gina Gershon) and a not-so-ditzy gun moll named Violet (Jennifer Tilly), who meets Corky and immediately tires of her mobster boyfriend (Joe Pantoliano). Desperate to break away from the Mob's influence and live happily ever after, the daring dames hatch a plot to steal $2 million of Mafia money. Their scheme runs into a series of escalating complications, until their very survival depends on split-second timing and criminal ingenuity. Simultaneously violent, funny, and suspenseful, Bound is sure to test your tolerance for bloodshed, but the film is crafted with such undeniable skill that several critics (including Roger Ebert) placed it on their top-ten lists for 1996. --Jeff Shannon

Bound.......2007-05-25
A great suspense movie with a lesbian main characters. This is not often seen in the many of the lesbian films. The roles are well portrayed by the actors and a great lesbian sex scene.
The heat from this movie is sizzling!!!!.......2007-03-24
Before the Wachowski Brothers did The Matrix, there was the erotic thriller, Bound, starring Jennifer Tilly, Gina Gershon, Joe Pantoliano, John P. Ryan, and Christopher Meloni. This was a low budget movie (four-and-a-half million dollars) that was to be the calling card for Andy and Larry Wachowski so that they could eventually do The Matrix series. They both wrote and directed Bound, demonstrating their unbelievable talent in making a film that would quickly become a cult classic in just a few short years. The script was sharp and fresh with more twists in it than a pretzel. They were able to get the two sexiest women in Hollywood at the time (Tilly and Gershon) to play the leads with Joe Pantoliano agreeing to take a cut in salary for his role as Caesar. They got a great Production Designer, Editor and Director of Photography to make Bound's appearance to be more film noir in essence with its dark tones and shadows and sparse cutting. The rest as they say is history.
Bound deals with Corky (played by Gershon), who just got out of prison after having served five years for what she calls a distribution of funds, or stealing. She was betrayed by her female partner and therefore has a severe lack of trust in those around her. She takes a job as a maintenance repair guy in a Chicago condo building and soon meets the vibrant and sexy Violet (played to the hilt by Tilly), who's the girlfriend of Caesar, a money launderer for the Mob. The couple live in the condo right next to the one that Corky is doing repairs in. The attraction between Corky and Violet is immediate, and it isn't long before Violet sexually seduces her. Corky knows trouble when she sees it, but that doesn't stop her from giving in to Violet's manipulations. It isn't long, however, before Violet makes the suggestion to her new lover that they steal two million dollars of the Mob's money, allowing Caesar to take the fall for its lost. What a deal--two million dollars, plus Violet. How could any man, or woman, say no to that. Of course, nothing goes according to the plan as all hell breaks lose with Caesar doing just the opposite of what the two ladies had hoped for. Then, there's the question of whether or not Corky will once again find herself being betrayed by the woman she cares about. Any and everything can happen before the ending is reached as betrayal, torture and murder become the norm for this outstanding film.
This movie is everything a viewer could hope for. It's scary, funny and sexy to the ninth degree. Tilly and Gershon heat up the screen with their lovemaking and dubious intentions. They capture theirs roles with perfect aplomb, delighting in the subtle nuances that each brings to their particular character and playing off of it. Joe Pantoliano does a great job as the man who's caught in the middle of these two black widows, refusing to go down without a fight. One big surprise is how great John Ryan is as Mickey, a boss for the Mob. The guy is downright scary in his performance. He never raises his voice or over reacts--just a steady force to be reckoned with. Christopher Meloni as crazy Johnnie Marzzone brings in the laughs with his wicked sense of humor in the most dour of situations like when an accountant for the Mob is being tortured about the money he's stolen. When a finger is cut off and falls to the bathroom floor, Johnnie says, "Oops. You dropped something." Bound is a slick, classy film with top performances by its actors that totally deserves all of the recognition it's received over the years. It's a movie that you can certainly watch over and over. I will say that there isn't much in the way of extras on the DVD, but the film commentary is great. Jennifer Tilly shows up during the last third of the commentary and basically steals the show away from the Wachowski Brothers and Joe Pantoliano. She won't let anyone get in a word edgewise and acknowledges that she sometimes talks too much. Gershon shows up a few minutes later, and they both have fun razing Joe about his semi-nude scenes in the movie and his overall acting. Needless to say, the commentary is loads of fun. Bound is the type of movie that gives me hope for Hollywood. This is what filmmaking is all about, and it goes to show that fantastic movies can be made on a shoestring budget. You don't need two-hundred million dollars to make a classic.
Bound ( A movie you bound to have )........2007-03-17
If Drama, suspence, a little humour and an impressive story line is your thing, then you are BOUND to like this movie. Two ladies ( sort of ) swindles the mob over two million dollars...drama unfolds from the begining throughout the movie keeping you at the edge of your seat.
P.S warning there is a little lesbian scene that deterred my mom from watching the whole movie ( however this was early in the film ).
Mob Movie with a Twist.......2007-02-12
This is an incredibly unusual twist on a story of mob betrayal and robbery. Two women meet on an elevator and begin a love afair. One of them is living with a mobster. They conspire to steal $2 million of the mafia's money and all hell breaks loose.
The plot is tightly weaved , the acting is good and the movie has enough surprises that it never becomes boring. All in all a highly entertaining film with some strong sexuality and violence mixed in.
Female Mob Movie.......2007-01-14
Bound was the first movie made by the Wachowski brothers, of Matrix fame. Bound stars Gina Gershon as Corky, a lesbian ex con hired to work in an apartment as a plumber. She meets neighbor Caesar, who launders money for the mob, and his girlfriend Violet. The two women have a love affair and decide to steal $2,000,000 that Caesar is holding for the mob. Caesar is set up by the two scheming women as a scapegoat and then things get very violent. The movie could be less violent, but overall it was great to see two female leads in a mafia movie.

Recovering from the box-office disappointment of The Cable Guy, Jim Carrey gave his fans what they wanted in this good-natured and frequently hilarious 1997 comedy. In a vehicle tailor-made for his verbal and physical antics, Carrey plays a lawyer whose penchant for prevarication is tested when his son makes a birthday wish that his father would tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth for 24 hours, so help him God! Without his daily defense of white lies, selfish fibs, and outright deception, the helpless lawyer finds himself blurting uncensored truths with total, and totally outrageous, candor. The script is clever enough to milk the premise for all it's worth, but it's Carrey's energy--particularly in a hilarious bathroom scene where he literally mugs himself to delay a trial--that keeps the movie going to its sappy happy ending. The supporting cast includes Jennifer Tilly, Cary Elwes, and Amanda Donohoe. --Jeff Shannon
Customer Reviews:
A solid Jim Carey comedy.......2007-04-22
I highly enjoyed this movie. My favorite of Jim Carey's comedic performances. The scene with the pen alone is well worth picking up this movie for. The only Jim Carey movies I like more are his more serious ones like The Truman Show or Man on the Moon.
Love this man and this movie.......2007-04-01
This man is " my kind of funny " and this movie of his
makes me absolutely hysterical with loud and frequent
laughter. I get so happy after seeing this movie.
I would recommend this movie to anyone that is in
need of serious mood lifting because I believe that
this Jim Carrey movie can and will raise your heart
to new levels of hope and happiness. Watch it and
feel the results yourself.
Jim Careys Best Movie.......2006-12-27
I loved liar liar! I never get tired of watching it! I dont believe his performance was over the top as some might. I think that this is his best movie if not one of the best. It has a GREAT feel good story line and if you couple it with the fantastic actors and hilariouse content youve got a classic entertaining movie you will love for years!
So birthday wishes really do coame true........2006-11-25
This movie "Liar liar" was the funniest Jim Carry movie ever!!!!!!!!
Hey Pinocchio, your nose is growing!.......2006-10-25
One of the best performances Jim Carrey has given. A very good concept for a film. Funny, refreshing, original and very well done. I felt it could have been a lot better with a little less comedy and a little more drama to get the point across better but still a must see for any Jim Carrey fan. Great acting, casting, screenplay and filming. I recommend it.

Description
In this uproarious hit from the director and producers of The Nutty Professor, comic genius Jim Carrey stars as a fast-talking attorney and habitual liar who, forced by his son's birthday wish, must tell the truth for the next 24 hours. Co-starring Jennifer Tilly, Swoosie Kurtz and Amanda Donohoe. Siskel & Ebert give Liar Liar "Two thumbs up!"
Customer Reviews:
Liar Liar (HD DVD) Review by Justin Sluss.......2007-06-21
The Movie Itself tells the story of how one smooth talking, habitual liar of an attorney "Fletcher Reede" (played by Jim Carey) is forced by his son's birthday wish to have to tell the truth for the next 24 hours. From the second his son "Max" (played by Justin Cooper) blows out his birthday candles until that exact time the next day "Fletcher" (a shady lawyer) is in for 24 hours of telling "the whole truth and nothing but the truth."
This movie for it's time was a huge hit and allowed star Jim Carey to portray a character that looked normal (meaning not have to wear a wig, make-up, etc.) but still allowed him to be able to do his crazy spontaneous comedy type of acting at the same time. This film is not only hilarious and one that is sure to make you laugh but it's also kind of touching the story between the father, son. Obviously not as much so as just downright how funny Jim Carey is in this film. Even with all the other ratings considered this is still a film worth checking out if you have never seen it.
Video Quality on this release is 1080p VC-1 on a 15 gigabyte HD DVD disc. To be a film from 1997 and only on a HD-15 (15gb HD DVD) the video quality here looks really good I think over the original DVD. I for one owned the original `97 DVD release which was actually a 4:3 Fullscreen version, so for me this is almost like night and day but still it's nothing worthy of a 5 star rating. Honestly at times I have to say this is almost just as good as the video transfer for "Bruce Almighty", the other Jim Carey film released the same day on HD DVD. There is some obvious film grain in a few scenes that just hasn't been cleaned up. This translates into some very noticeable film noise in the video presentation from time to time. This is I guess to be expected from a 1997 release like this but I'd have to say the video transfer is an improvement overall and very watchable.
Audio Quality on this release is in Dolby Digital Plus 5.1 @ 1.5Mbps which is an improvement over the original DVD releases' Dolby Digital tracks but still nothing that amazing. It gets 3 stars for being an improvement over the original DVD and really that is why it gets this audio quality rating. The film is primarily dialog driven anyway so it really doesn't matter too much about an improvement in audio quality here. This film is mostly about Jim Carey's character and his hilarious dialog he dishes out once his son has makes the birthday wish. You're most likely going to be laughing so hard at some points I doubt you'll hear too much of the movie's sound over yourself.
Bonus Materials appear to be nothing more than the latest DVD release's ("Collector's Edition") bonus materials ported over and presented in 4:3 standard definition. Really disappointing as you'd expect but let's begin with what all you'll find here. First off there's audio Commentary by Director Tom Shadyac. "Bridging the Comedy Chasm" (16 minutes) starts off to appear to be nothing more than Jim Carey goofing off but soon we get interviews not only from him but also the producer, Director Tom Shadyac and other cast members like the young Justin Cooper. This proves to really showcase Jim obviously more than anybody but it still is worth watching and has some laughs. "Deleted Scene" (4 minutes) is just what you'd expect. Only one deleted scene here obviously but it's a good one if I say so myself. It shows "Fletcher Reede" in a court case (which would have been shown probably near or at the beginning of the film if it had not been deleted) defending this big neanderthal of a criminal against this little old man in a neck brace. It's "Fletcher" at his finest when he could lie. This scene honestly shouldn't have been deleted if you ask me. It's worth 4 minutes of pure laughter, I think anyway. Last we get a very horrible quality (for both video and sound) version of the original Theatrical Trailer to the film. These bonus materials are nothing short of really disappointing as I started this off saying. The only reason this got as high of a rating as it did for bonus materials is the fact Universal not only includes bookmarks now but the ability to make In and Out's to your favorite scenes. If it were not for that, this would have been rated probably 1 or 1 1/2 stars.

Description
Jay Trotter has waited a lifetime for this day. He's got a hot tip on a horse everyone thinks is ready for the glue factory. But, as track aficionados say, "Even when you know, you never know." One thing you can be certain be sure of is that with Richard Dreyfuss, David Johansen, Teri Garr and more, this is a winning comedy. So put it in your VCR and Let It Ride. Its characters give new meaning to "the odds." And its heart will touch everyone who's wondered: "If every dog has his day, why can't every person have one?"

Fun movie! A must see!!.......2007-05-13
Fun movie! A must see!!
A day at the races!! Too bad that name is already used!!
but let it ride works too!!
good movie for those who like to have the underdog to have his day.
who knows!! "You might be walking around lucky and not even know it!"
A TRUE HIDDEN GEM!!!.......2007-02-18
I believe I caught this on cable way back when when i was a teenager and was smitten from the start. Its just such a happy goodhearted movie. I think I may know why it didnt do so well at the box office. The first 10 or 12 minutes drag a bit but after that hold on because your in for a real treat. Richard Dryfuss is at his comedic best and is complimented left and right by absolutely wonderful performances by, Jennifer Tilly, Robbie Coltrane, Buster Poindexter, etc... I would tell you to rent it and you will love it but after you see it you will have to own it. When your down it will put a smile on your face everytime. A similar type movie that I can also suggest is 29th Street. It has the same sort of lull at the very beginning as Let it Ride but it pays off the same.
Let It Ride & What About Bob.......2007-02-05
l bought Let it Ride, What About Bob and did not get Boys Town. When l received the movies l could not play them in my recorder or my DVD player which is supposed to play most movies, very disappointing as my daughter in law buys quite a few from you and has not trouble with hers. Regards Barbara
Overlooked gem with Dreyfuss and Teri Garr.......2007-02-04
Let It Ride was in theaters such a brief time I don't recall ever seeing the movie poster on the marquee. It did play extensively on the pay movie channels several years after release, and I do recall watching certain scenes over and over again. Bottom line, it's a hoot! Let It Ride is a very well crafted comedy. Despite the wardrobe of some characters the movie has aged well. The dialog is instantly quotable. If ever there was a feel good movie this is it. The scenes with Dreyfuss and Robbie Coltrane as the ticket agent at the $50 window are classic. This was the first time I saw Coltrane in anything, and he is simply hysterical. I love the way different classes of horse racing patrons are portrayed. If you've ever been to the track you'll recognize the cast of characters. Teri Garr isn't on screen much except the beginning and the end, but she and Dreyfuss definitely have chemistry. She's one of my favorite comedic actresses.
Watch 'Let It Ride' one lazy afternoon; you'll be surprised how it sticks in your head. Especially that stupid song... "I got the horse right here, his name is Paul Revere".
You can bet on this one!.......2007-01-23
Do you gamble or know anyone who does? This is the perfect movie. Great story with great characters and very funny. Love to watch this one many, many times.

This live-action version of E.B. White's novel doesn't have quite the magic of, say, <I>Toy Story</I>. Instead of entertainment the whole family can be enthralled with, <I>Stuart Little</I> is squarely aimed, and successfully so, at the 4- to 10-year-old watcher. Does this make it a bad family film? Not in the slightest. The gee-whiz visual effects (created by original <I>Star Wars</I> wizard John Dykstra) and the film's ebullient wholesomeness make this a welcome addition to the home library.
In E.B. White's world, it's hardly surprising that human parents would adopt "outside their species." The smooth-talking mouse Stuart (voiced by Michael J. Fox) seems the perfect new child for parents Geena Davis and Hugh Laurie, especially with an adorable wardrobe of very small sweaters and pants. Harder is fitting in with the Little's family cat, Snowbell (voiced by Nathan Lane, who also deftly voiced Timon in director Rob Minkoff's last feature, <I>The Lion King</I>). The simple story deals with Stuart trying to fit in with his new life, including big brother George (<I>Jerry Maguire</I>'s scene-stealing Jonathan Lipnicki). And of course there's an adventure when Snowbell's schemes lead Stuart into true danger, in the form of the devious plans of an alley cat named Smokey (voiced by Chazz Palminteri). Brisk--85 minutes--amusing, and tolerably cute, <I>Stuart Little</I> stands tall. Two curios: The effects are so cleanly done that we could call Stuart the first successfully computer-animated actor, and the screenplay was cowritten by M. Night Shyamalan, who made bigger waves in 1999 writing and directing <I>The Sixth Sense</I>. <I>--Doug Thomas</I>

WAKE UP PEOPLE!.......2007-05-27
there is a child molester named jeffrey jones in this movie i would not want a child watching this movie you need to read who is in it and what they have done.
Great Kiddie Movie.......2007-05-15
Nice movie for the whole family to enjoy. Make some popcorn and have Friday Family movie night and watch Staurt Little
Very funny. Kids love it!.......2007-03-30
A very funny movie for kids from 2-6. My grandson watches it again and again. Great imagination. It is even great for the adults who also watch it again and again.
Great for kids of all ages.......2007-03-09
Delightful story. The plot accomodates itself to children of all ages. Plenty of action, humor, and silliness - the ingredients my children seem to thrive on. Stuart is about a kid trying to find his place in the world. And aren't we all?
THE CAT'S MEOW.......2005-04-24
If you are an adult who absolutely cannot tolerate what might be called "a really cute movie", then you must at all costs avoid STUART LITTLE. However, if you're either (a) an adult who can't resist such cuteness; or (b) a cat owner who loves watching cats talk, then STUART LITTLE is right up your alley!! M. Night Shamalayan (Sixth Sense, The Village) of all people is the co-writer of this whimsical adaptation of E.B. White's classic book. While the humans are insufferably coy, the animals are the true stars of this film. Geena Davis and Hugh Laurie (House, Flight of the Phoenix) ooze paternal bliss as Stuart's adopted parents, while Jonathan Lipnicki is the epitome of kid cuteness, but it's Michael J. Fox as Stuart; Nathan Lane as Snowbell, and Chazz Palmineteri, Steve Zahn, Jennifer Tilly and the other "voices" that provide the pizzazz for this movie. The wizardry of the special effects teams gives these animals life and personality, and they're just as delightful as the talking animals in "Babe." The movie's focus on heart and family is uplifting and it just provides a ninety minute cute experience.

My oh my Milano.......2007-03-02
So that there be no confusion, I would like to submit two reviews for this movie - one for the Alyssa Milano fans, the other for all others.
To the true fans of Alyssa Milano - WOW, yibiba yibida yabada, houley-douley, spin my nipples and call me Susan. Alyssa is HOT HOT HOT in this one. You'll see more of her in this film than in any other (so far as I know). You'll also see her do a suggestive lesbian scenario and also a highly sensual scene with three others, inclunding one female, alomst totally nude! As for the film plot, acting, script, musical score... who cares. 5 stars all for Alyssa.
To all others - this film has nothing realy going for it unless you want to see lots of nudity (particulary of Alyssa). The acting - there are single-celled organisms floating over the abyssal plains of the deep Atlantic with better acting capabilties; An orang-utan could written a better script; and the film is as scary as watching a fluffy bunny rabbit frolic about in pleasant green fields. 1 star for this movie (that includes me ignoring my complete obsession with Alyssa).
Hope this helps.
embracing alyssa.......2007-01-04
bought it to check her out, and she did show most of the goodies but other than that the show bombed not worth watching other than the occasional moment that martin kemp could have made her scream i'am a bad girl...
The Erotic Embrace of the Vampire.......2007-01-03
Alyssa Milano is banging in this erotic tale about a vampire who is looking to regain his lost love. Alyssa's "quite often" naked body is awesome -- enjoy!

Peter O'Toole (<I>Lawrence of Arabia</I>, <I>My Favorite Year</I>) gives an exuberant performance in <I>High Spirits</I>. Peter Plunkett (O'Toole) hopes to save his mortgaged castle by turning it into a tourist attraction--the most haunted castle in Ireland. When American tourists arrive--among them Jack (Steve Guttenberg) and Sharon (Beverly D'Angelo), a couple whose marriage is rapidly disintegrating--Plunkett's tomfoolery arouses the real ghosts, who decide to give these interlopers everything they're asking for. But when Jack accidentally helps a beautiful ghost named Mary (Daryl Hannah), she decides he's the man to help her break the curse she's been suffering for 200 years. <I>High Spirits</I> is an odd foray into comedy by director Neil Jordan (<I>The Crying Game</I>, <I>Interview with the Vampire</I>). The special effects are clumsy, but the strong supporting cast includes Jennifer Tilly, Peter Gallagher, and Liam Neeson as Mary's murderous 200-year-old husband. <I>--Bret Fetzer</I>
Description
Daryl Hannah, Peter O'Toole and Steve Guttenberg star in this gleefully ghoulish comedy sparkling with romance and rollicking with supernatural special effects. Written and directed by Neil Jordan (Interview With the Vampire) and co-starring Beverly D'Angelo, Jennifer Tilly, Peter Gallagher and Liam Neeson, High Spirits is the most fun you'll have in this world or the next!Impoverished Peter Plunkett (O'Toole) hatches the perfect plan to save his debt-ridden Irish castle: lure American tourists by advertising the place as haunted. But when Peter and his staff don sheets and chains to go a-haunting, they scare up more than paying guests'they arouse the real ghosts of Castle Plunkett! And when American tourist Jack (Guttenberg) spies a gorgeous ghost named Mary (Hannah), it's love at first sighting. Now all Jack has to worry about is Mary's murderous spook of a husband and their 200-year age difference!

Hi
I want to thank the sender of this dvd. It is exactly what they had described and well worth the extra effort to track down this dvd. I am in the process of collecting older out of circuit movies. Thank you Amazon for helping me with this project, this hasn't been the first time that I have been able to locate valuable material from your website.
Awesome movie, the dvd was perfect.......2007-03-28

A powerful and gritty film.......2007-02-18
Dancing at the Blue Iguana is a film whose story was developed during a five month improvisational workshop run by director Michael Radford. The story centers around the Blue Iguana, your average seedy strip club, this one located in a faceless semi industrial area of the San Fernando valley part of LA. Each of the lead actors developed their own character and storyline based on their own research.
There have been a couple of pathetic attempts by Hollywood to make a film about the world of strip clubs, namely Showgirls and Demi Moore's abhorrent Striptease, but both of those failed miserably. Dancing at the Blue Iguana succeeds brilliantly. Walk into any average to below average strip club in America and you'll find stories that are not at all dissimilar from the stories developed by the Blue Iguana's five dancers all played brilliantly by Darryl Hannah, Sandra Oh, Charlotte Ayanna, Shiela Kelly and Jennifer Tilly.
The one story element that sticks out as overly fantastic is that of the Russian hit man played by Vladimir Mashkov, who because his target is being held for questioning by the FBI, is stuck in a hotel next to the club and falls for Darryl Hannah's character because he sees her smoking outside the club all the time. But if you replace the Russian hit man with a businessman stuck in town for a week, it still makes sense, and would be much more believable.
Robert Wisdom who plays Eddie, the owner of the club, and W. Earl Brown, who plays his right hand man, Bobby, both do a wonderful job in this movie as well. The camera work is first rate and does a fantastic job capturing the unscripted dialogue. The soundtrack is perfect for this film.
In a film about strip clubs, there is obviously going to be a lot of nudity, and there is in this film, but it's not done in a gratuitous way. The film also kind of starts and ends in the middle of each of the stories, but that's the way life is. I found it just absolutely compelling and rivetting, in some sense the way a train wreck is compelling, because some of these young women have real problems. I could have watched another two hours of this, though, it was that good.
Strip clubs are often sad places, both the dancers and their customers often have melancholy tales. Dancing at the Blue Iguana captures that milieu in a perfectly downbeat way. Really a great film.
Smoke yourself thin .......2007-01-20
Prior to watching this, I expected something on par with "Striptease" or "Showgirls," which are films about stripping that also attempt to legitimize their titillation by tossing in dramatic subplots. Even with earnest intentions, films of this sort usually end up being clichéd and disappointing. Adding to my trepidation was the fact I had never heard of this film, which was released in 2000, prior to 2006. I finally took a chance on it and gladly admit that it really drew me in and convinced me to care about the characters. Like most people, these women only want to find love and something real in life, yet have lost their centers. Indeed, it is the actresses' portrayals of these characters that make each disappointment and set-back so painful to watch. Sandra Oh really moved me with her performance as Jasmine, a would-be poet who sabotages her own happiness because she has come to believe she cannot trust anyone, including herself. Her performance as a sensitive, intelligent person is the most tragic among these lives because she lacks the confidence to escape her current situation, even though she easily could. As Angel, Darryl Hannah is wonderful as a helplessly dim and hopelessly optimistic dreamer. (She also looks unbelievably fit!) Jennifer Tilly is also very good as the out of control Jo, a woman who tries desperately to win in a man's world, but comes to realize the playing field is not level. Charlotte Ayanna is remarkable as Jessie, an eager to please naïf, who has not yet had her spirit crushed by the weight of the world. Come to think of it, it does all sound very clichéd and there really isn't much of a plot to tie it all together, just several subplots. Nonetheless, the acting is exceptional, made all the more impressive by the fact much of it is improvised. (And yes, the ladies here all smoke, which would ostensibly account for their trim appearances) I enjoyed the entire two hours and would recommend it to anyone looking for a good character study without the hindrance of a plot. The DVD is quite decent, with a very good transfer, optional subtitles and some alternate scenes. This is a bargain for the price.
Sandra Oh, Jennifer Tilly.......2007-01-19
I'll be honest, any movie where I get to see Sandra Oh and one of the Tilly sisters nekkid is going to get 6 stars from me.
But it actually is a pretty good movie, though it is a little predictable. I would say it is fairly realistic (having dated a couple of strippers), except for the total lack of any lesbianism. But maybe thats just in the bay area.
On the plus side, this is one of the better Jennifer Tilly movies. That girl needs to get a better manager!
whether or not you admit it..........2006-12-21
youre going to go through an aspiring-stripper phase after seeing this.
with addictive plotlines, phenomenal dialogue and characters fabulous enough to make you immediately assign one to each of your friends (or at least to yourself) this movie is at very least a guilty pleasure, with star quality to boot.
to top it all off, the choreography is incredible. i recommend watching the behind the scenes, and then maybe renting "The S Factor" (the striptease workout by Sheila Kelley, who plays Stormy).
it's a movie worth seeing, and definitely a great addition to most collections. a serious classic!
Tends to Be Annoying.......2006-09-17
"Dancing at the Blue Iguana" takes a look at a week in the life (onstage, backstage, out in the real world) of a group of strippers working at the Blue Iguana. I love strippers just as much as the next guy, but these strippers you really don't care about. The movie is apparently improvised, at least for the most part, which is probably where some of the problems lie. The cast of characters includes Jessie (Charlotte Ayanna), Angel (Daryl Hannah), Stormy (Sheila Kelly), Jasmine (Sandra Oh), and Jo (Jennifer Tilly). Each night, each woman gets on stage and dances naked. Thankfully, taking away from the stereotype, when they go back stage they're not all sad and hopeless human beings who think they've failed at life. No, they're all happy people for the most part but they still have their share of problems. Jessie seems to be really lonely, and has apparently not spoken to her family in a few years. Angel is a naive, baby-like, annoying woman who longs to have a baby and finally decides to get a foster child. Stormy is probably the most stereotypical of the bunch, her brother has came into town (he's getting married) and she longs to see him but doesn't know how to approach him. Jasmine is an aspiring poet and Jo is exactly what most of Jennifer Tilly's roles are. The bad tempered rebel of the bunch, who happens to be pregnant. The writers of the film were obviously trying to develop the characters, but they didn't do a very good job of it. Yeah, you know what they aspire to do and everything but there's just something missing from the equation. With the lack of development, few of the characters are even interesting enough to follow through the two hour movie. Out of all of them, it's (surprisingly) Angel that's most annoying. Hannah uses (although, this wasn't what it would be referred to when the movie came out) a Paris Hilton voice and is just really annoying and stupid. If you're looking for a good movie (and this movie is OK, on the entertainment scale) that exposes the lives of strippers off the bar; This isn't for you. If you're looking for a few well known actresses to take off their clothes, then this may be your kind of movie. W. Earl Brown ('Deadwood')
co-stars.

A sweet and silly story that becomes increasingly poignant as the minutes tick by, <I>Saint Ralph</I> is the fictional tale of a wayward 9th grader, Ralph (Adam Butcher), who is secretly living on his own while his widowed, hospitalized mother remains immersed in a coma. Frequently in trouble with Father Fitzpatrick (Gordon Pinsent), the principal of his all-boys, Catholic school, Ralph is considered something of a joke among peers until he decides to pull off the miracle that could save his mother, i.e., winning the Boston Marathon. Coached by a younger priest and former runner, Father Hibbert (Campbell Scott), whose cynicism has been lifted by the boy's pure hope, Ralph applies himself to his unlikely mission, fending off naysayers and getting help along a very challenging path from sundry allies and friends. A touching movie featuring a startlingly knowing performance from the young lead. Jennifer Tilly and Tamara Hope co-star, and the film was written and directed by Michael McGowan (<I>My Dog Vincent</I>). <I>--Tom Keogh</I>
Description
An inspiring story about the unlikely story of Ralph Walker, a ninth grader who outran everyone's expectations except his own in his bold quest of trying to win the 1954 Boston Marathon. Ralph is a fatherless 14-year-old with a seriously ill mother, who knows he's a time bomb waiting to explode into greatness, except that he has no idea where that greatness will manifest itself. An unfortunate incident of self-abuse in the community pool inadvertently sets him on this road when, as penance, Ralph is conscripted to the cross-country team. Desperate to believe a miracle will bring his mother out of a coma, Ralph becomes a convert to the church of running, and determines to win the Boston Marathon.

Inspiring message of faith and persistance for children of all ages...........2007-06-13
A heartwarming tale for children of all ages, this is one of the handful of young adult movies coming out of Hollywood in the last 10 years with a positive and moral message. I could barely believe that something this well-written, acted and produced could come out of a Hollywood conglomerate like Sony Pictures!
The frank discussion of adolescent sexual exploration accounts for the PG-13 rating, but not so explicit that I would keep the younger kids from this charming movie. You absolutely can't do better then Saint Ralph if you are looking for a morally uplifting, inspiring positive movie for your children.
Director/Writer Adam McGowan draws on his own youthful experiences to give us a fast moving, inspirational story of a 14 year old boy who is determined to bring his widowed mother out of her coma by performing the miracle of winning the 1954 Boston Marathon.
But according to Ralph's religion class teacher, perquisites for a miracle are faith, prayer and purity. Faith and prayer are hard enough for anyone, but purity seems an impossible goal for a boy on the verge of being expelled from Catholic school for an incident of self-abuse at the local swimming pool.
Ralph's naive sincerity inspires a cynical Catholic priest losing his own personal faith to regain his moral purpose in helping Ralph against the orders of the school's disciplinarian headmaster. Finally, even the stern headmaster's heart is melted by Ralph, in a heartfelt performance by young actor Adam Butcher.
Highly recommended, I enjoyed watching this several times, without being bored.
Pleasant enough little release from Canada.......2007-05-27
'Saint Ralph' is a pleasant, poignant, small-watt charmer from Canada. In my head, I'm categorizing it together with other recent, low-budget, pleasant Canadian releases including Bollywood/Hollywood, Mambo Italiano, Touch of Pink, and the delightfully goofy Friends and Family.
I felt like the film was undermined to a certain extent by Adam Butcher's lack of athleticism. At one point we're supposed to believe that Campbell Scott is timing Butcher's Ralph at well under five minutes a mile. And, indeed, I figured that part of the film would be the transformation of Butcher's ungainly, gawky stride into an elegant thing of beauty. Never happened. I never believed that fairly important part of the story for one second. That's a 9+ minute a mile stride, even at its supposed apex.
Still, the film has an inherent decency and sweetness that can't be denied. It's certainly worth your time as a rental.
Touching.......2007-05-11
Very good movie. Funny and heartfelt. Very well acted by the young lead, and all the other actors as well.
Funny, Sad, Inspiring St Ralph.......2007-02-18
I thoroughly enjoyed this movie, and I have watched it 3 times already, certainly one I want to have in my portfolio of movies. Perhaps, I liked it so much because it brought back memories for me when I was in an all boys high school taught by priests, but even without that memory, it was an all around good movie, acting, dialogue, and it had a little bit of everything in it, even some fantasy.
friday night fluff.......2007-01-25
This film won several festival awards, and is fine as some Friday night fluff, but it did not work for me. Saint Ralph wavers between the inspirational, the cute, and some serious coming of age issues; trying to do all three fails. Ralph Walker is a likeable trouble maker in the ninth grade at an oppressive Catholic boarding school. He cheats, lies, smokes, curses, underachieves, and enjoys his raging hormones. His father died in the war (the film is set in 1953), his mother lies deathly sick in a coma (although you would never know it because she looks quite beautiful), and if he is expelled from the school he is orphaned. He learns in his religion class that performing a miracle requires faith, prayer, and purity, and so he sets out to run the Boston Marathon in order to effect a miracle for his dying mother. Sub plots with a girl friend and a teacher-priest who just happens to have been a marathoner as a young man add little. I did not find Saint Ralph even remotely believable, nor did I appreciate that Catholicism was presented in the worst possible light. The headmaster is a cardboard character who, yes, is a sick tyrant. Ralph has several visitations from God who appears to him in the form of Santa Claus. You can watch to see if Ralph gets the miracle of a marathon victory, and whether this redounds to his mother's healing; just don't set your expectations too high.
