It's hard to believe there was ever a time when Justine Bateman was a bigger star than Julia Roberts, but <I>Satisfaction</I> is the evidence of that brief moment. It's also a movie unjustly maligned, perhaps because it's a little more frank about the sexuality of young women than older male movie critics find comfortable. Jennie Lee (Bateman, <I>Family Ties</I>) and her band (Roberts, soon to become one of the biggest movies stars in the world; Trini Alvarado, <I>Little Women</I>; Britta Phillips, later to be the bassist for the rock band Luna; and Scott Coffey, the only actor to appear in both <I>Ferris Bueller's Day Off</I> and David Lynch's <I>Mulholland Drive</I>) go to a beach town where they get a gig playing in a club run by a former songwriter (Liam Neeson, <I>Schindler's List</I>). Over the course of a summer, they fall in love, have sex, and play rock and roll--but the tone and texture of the movie is more <I>American Graffiti</I> than <I>Girls Just Want to Have Fun</I>. Perhaps because <I>Satisfaction</I> was directed by a woman, the girls are startlingly well drawn and distinct, despite the movie's episodic nature. Surprisingly, the music has some grit to it, perhaps because it was produced by the legendary Steve Cropper (of Booker T. and the MGs). Even more surprising, Roberts doesn't pop out as a future star; watching <I>Satisfaction</I>, you could imagine that anyone in this strong ensemble--even Justine Bateman--could go on to great things (if anyone stands out, it's Britta Phillips, who then dropped out of movies altogether). <I>Satisfaction</I> is not profound, but it is more honest and nonjudgmental about the messiness of life, youth, and love than the overwhelming majority of teen movies. Debbie Harry has a brief but memorable cameo. <I>--Bret Fetzer</I>
Description
When a four-girl, one-guy rock group called The Mystery gets its first gig at a club, it's not just a chance to perform, it's also an opportunity to get out of the inner city¿and see what life is all about. Fresh out of high school, the group spends the summer playing a club in an exclusive beach resort. There they find romance, adventure and, for the lead singer Jennie Lee (Bateman), a dilemma: to pursue her budding career or return to school. Liam Neeson and Julia Roberts co-star.

Once in a While a Bit of Nostalgia Suits the Palate.......2006-12-03
SATISFACTION is not a great movie by any shakes, but taken for what it was meant to be - a slightly naive tale of a girls' band that has a summer of adventure, love and opportunity for the big time nut opts instead to become just a group of life-long friends - it is a well done bit of pastiche. Thanks to the simple script by Charles Purpura and to the sensitive direction of Joan Freeman the little story works well.
The interesting aspect of the film is the cast. The band consists of leader Justine Bateman with Trini Alvarado, Britta Phillips, Scott Coffey as the token male, Deborah Harry and yes, the movie debut of Julia Roberts! Liam Neeson serves as the love interest for Justine Bateman's character and Michael DeLorenzo has a small part, too. The music is fun and the cast commits to the idea of the film well. Strange to see a film from 1988 with the established stars disappearing and the 'newcomers' taking flight. Grady Harp, December 06
love 80's movies.......2006-07-31
i am a big fan of the 80's movie even though most are a bit corny. And the same goes for this one at times but i love it. You get to see Julia Roberts and a younger Liam Neeson which is great. Also has a pretty good sound track and Justine Bateman does a good job of lip-syncing. Save when it looks as if she is gonna eat the mic. Over all is a good movie. Hope this review helped. Enjoy the movie.
OK c'mon you know it's a cult favorite ..... .......2006-05-06
Holy smokes Justine Bateman, Julia Roberts and Liam Neeson all in one moview and not a Partridge to be found anywhere ..... I myself have been a fan of Betman for some time and could never really figure out why we havent seen much much more of her over the years ... it's has to be that hot hot 'animal' sexuality that probably turns most women off ... HMMMM
Anyway this is a great light hearted movie .. do not expect any writing above grade 5 level .. Julia Roberts plays an oversexed band member and her best scene was the one she spends 24 hours humping in the bands van ... Liam Neeson was great (what else do you expect) as the 'older' man drinking himself into obscurity ... he's supposed to be somewhat dislikable with redeeming values nut because hes such a damned good actor .... he actually bordered on being a very obnoxious dirtbag with no redeeming values...
As for Bateman well what can i say that I havent said here already .....
Satisfied?.......2006-01-24
I bought this for a friend, as a big surprise for her 26th birthday. This used to be her favourite movie, when she was a young'n.
I'd never seen it before and it's full of unknowns- apart from Julia Roberts in a bit part role and Liam Neason as a moody 'older man' type love interest.
I wasn't particularly looking forward to finding out what all the fun was about- but I gave it a shot.
It's pretty poor. But in a really good way! When you were a youth in the 80s all the chick flick teen drama movies were pretty shabby, but they had such charm... the girls were pretty, the music was catchy and the love stories were completely ridiculous- but that hardly matters when you're 9.
I thoroughly recommend it to anyone that has a vague memory of it- because it'll bring back those 'feelings'! But apart from that.... just watch Dirty Dancing again or something..!?
The rock band dream... 80's girl style.......2006-01-11
Satisfaction... is it goofy? Yes. Dated? Definitely 80's. Light/Fluffy? Yes. Bad acting? I bet Julia Roberts would pay to have her scenes erased forever. All of these questions miss the point however!! The appropriate question about this movie should be, "Is it FUN?", and the answer is "Oh yeah!".
Like day time talk shows, comic books, and that old Poison album hiding in the back of your closet, this movie is a guilty pleasure to be enjoyed, but never admitted to! If you are in, or just really like rock bands, this movie is even better (almost inspirational). It's a fun romp with a young (mosly girl) band who land the ultimate gig at a summer beach resort. Music, mayhem, and rock band movie cliches ensue. The humor is funny.... the "drama" is even funnier (the lead guitarist breaks her drug addiction in one day, because the band tells her to!)! Be sure to look for Debbie Harry (Blondie), who turns in the movie's best acting performance in a five minute cameo. The soundtrack is strangely good (retro 80's), and the "band" in the movie actually performs on it! See the movie, and you will have no doubt that Justine Bateman sang her own vocals... which may or may not be a good thing!
If you've ever strummed an electric guitar, or just dreamed of rocking out and hitting the road with your friends, you must see this movie!!

I never received this product it was cancelled and my money was refunded
no explantion to why it was cancelled.
ORIGINAL IS BETTER~!.......2006-02-05
If you want UNCUT ORIGINAL version, ALWAYS look for ORIGINAL LICENSED Production. NOT US Release. Its a foreign film, it should not be US version to begin with~! HELLO!!!?? Why settle for LESS with US Version where they edit and cut so many excellent scenes especially with Jackie's Fighting Scenes. And US Release ruins the speed and sound as well. I have been collecting Jackie Chan's movies both HK and US Release Version for quite some time now. I found HK Version to be MUCH MORE in enjoyable, and HIGHER in Quality. American Market always like to "Americanize" and "Control". Regional Code Regulation thing is one of the example to CONTROL the Market. Why not let everyone enjoy the same HK Original Release move the same way ENTIRE WORLD enjoys it ?? No one makes Hollywood American movies to "French version" or "Chinese Version" ~! This what Americans are doing~! Well, enjoy the cheap "American version" then~! LOL
One Of The Better Harlequin Movies!.......2005-10-06
Another Woman is a made for television movie that is based on a Harlequin romance book and in my opinion is one of the better of the Harlequin movie adaptations. It stars Justine Bateman as a woman who is stricken with amnesia after she hits her head during a mugging and can not remember any details about her life or about her marriage. Apparently some event had caused her to become cold and distant to her husband and verbally abusive to her teenage sister-in-law who lives with them and since she has amnesia can't remember and doesn't understand why the man who says he is her husband doesn't trust her and why her sister-in-law hates her but as she gets to know them she finds herself fallling in love again with her husband and trying to help her troubled sister-in-law and added to that is a mystery man who is stalking the family.
Touching & Suspenseful Romantic Movie.......2005-04-01
I was enchanted and pleasantly surprised by this film. It is the story of a young woman who develops amnesia following an accident, and is brought home afterwards by her young, handsome, successful husband, who acts cold and distant to her. She later learns they have been sleeping in separate bedrooms for years, and are facing a pending divorce. She cannot get anyone, not even the psychiatrist who treated her both before and after the accident, to share with her why her once-happy marriage fell apart, or why she became abusive to her husband's adolescent sister who lives with them. Then there is the mystery of the dangerous-looking man in the old car who appears to be stalking her.
I found both of the main stars to be subtle and believable in their roles. Peter Outerbridge, as the husband, is cautious and coolly courteous, with an underlying sadness and perhaps just a touch of hope that their once happy relationship can yet be restored. Justine Bateman's character is fragile and frightened, and most anxious to win over her forgotten family. Little bits of memories fall into place as she views photo albums, hears stories about the past, and visits familiar places. She falls in love with her husband all over again, and becomes a dear friend to his little sister, but still cannot remember all the details of her former life, and the event or events that transformed her into the monster that she apparently became in the years just before the accident.
I have seen hundreds of mystery and romance movies, and read hundreds of books. But the climax during which Justine Bateman's character learns the truth about her past, while not exactly earth-shattering, caught me completely by surprise. This film left me feeling upbeat and warm and fuzzy, with a renewed hope in the power of forgiveness.
Excellent choice!.......2004-12-28
A woman has an accident and loses her memory.
Her husband wants to divorce her. Her niece hates her. And she doen't have the least idea why.
Very slowly she regains the trust of her family. And they start loving her again.
And then her memory comes back...
A really good movie - keeps you in suspence until the last minute.

Description
Out of Order is the dark, witty story of the beauty and brutality of a long-term marriage as seen through the eyes of writer Mark Colm (Stoltz), who aspires to make art with his wife, Lorna (Huffman). Their latest project - a script for an A-list director (Bogdanovich) - is complicated by Lorna's battle with clinical depression. She begins to self-medicate with Steven (Macy), a washed-up producer. Mark has always remained faithful to Lorna despite a wandering eye and blatant come-ons from a school mom, Annie (Bateman). He finds himself becoming obsessed with sexy soccer mom Danni (Dickens). Wanting to be a good man, but finding himself longing to stray, Mark realizes that he is guilty of the crime of being human.
Customer Reviews:
Heavily edited version of the original.......2006-08-14
While the basic story is till there, and it is quite interesting, what is available here could show on NBC. If you're looking for the original, full-length version, this isn't it! It's not just 'edited for content'....several complete scenes are missing.
The intriguing pilot from Showtime's series, but not the whole story.......2006-04-16
I did not remember that "Out of Order" was a Showtime series, which also means I never saw it when it originally aired in 2003. So this review represents somebody who, given what others have said here, does not know what he is missing. I also rented this DVD, so I do not have the disappointment of finding out this is only the show's two-part pilot and not all six episodes. I checked in out because anything with Felicity Huffman in it is enough of a recommendation to check it out, and this cast also offers Eric Stoltz, Kim Dickens, Justine Bateman, Adam Harrington, and William H. Macy.
"Out of Order" is very loosely inspired by the real-life experiences of the show's creators, the husband and wife screenwriting team of Wayne and Donna Powers, who started off writing episodes of "Cagney & Lacey" and "The Equalizer" on television and went on to do the screenplays for "Deep Blue Sea," "Valentine," and "The Italian Job." Our focal character is Mark Colm (Stoltz), who is married to Lorna (Huffman). They are a writing team, except Lorna, who is suffering from chronic depression, has stopped writing. While her creativity has dried up for the moment, Mark's is in overdrive. He thinks of his life as being in a movie, where a camera crew follows him around and animals talk (mainly to demand more food, more quickly).
The pivotal issue in this pilot is Mark's fidelity. Cut adrift by his wife and unable to do much more than stay out of her way, he has moved from lusting in his heart and from afar, to actually looking for an opportunity. He thinks he has found exactly that when he meets Danni (Dickens), when they are watching their kids play soccer. Danni has already done the trial separation with a complete dip back into the dating pool, but has recoiled with her husband and is only offering friendship (which, to Mark's credit, he realizes is no small gift). Meanwhile, another mom from the neighborhood, Annie (Bateman), actually offers Mark uncomplicated extra-marital sex, which he rejects. Is it because he fears complications with Annie, because he cannot handle being the pursued instead of the pursuer, or because he actually feels a connection of some importance with Danni?
Meanwhile, Lorna is trying to come to terms with the deep-rooted source of her emotional problems, and is finding comfort outside the home with Stephen (Macy), a failed producer, who becomes her primary drinking buddy. Mark is worried it might be more and so are we (Huffman and Macy are married to each other, so there is an undercurrent here, just like there was with Michael and Nancy on "thirtysomething"). Mark's birthday is coming up and while Danni will not agree to give him want he wants (and Annie is still making offers), he comes up with something that might shake up his life. After discussing what should be the drug of choice for the character in the script he is writing for a director (Peter Bogdonavich), it is decided that Ecstasy might be the way to go. Well, a writer should write about what he knows so everybody shows up at his house to try out the drug, the hot tub, and the pool. In that order.
Suffice it to say that underwater sex can be pretty erotic and that Mark ends up crossing a line. This leads to the question of what he is going to do about that, and now that I know there were four more episodes after this I can appreciate why we are left hanging at the end here. True, each of the cast members look up at the camera and declare the moral of the story in turn so that there is no doubt what the lesson was here, but that only takes away from the overt metaphor that is the payoff to the mystery as to what crime Mark is guilty of in this story. He addresses the viewer at the start and assigns to us the role of jury that will decide his fate. Given all the possible indictments his actions raise against him, and which he dismisses on his own, the revelation at the end really works against the moment.
The performances are all solid, as you would expect with this sort of ensemble and the situation is complex enough that no final judgments can be rendered at this point as to what should happen with these characters next. This, of course, is desirable in the pilot for a series, but less so for a pilot taken as a complete film. The talking animals idea is really good for only one decent laugh, but the idea of recasting scenes as famous movies certainly looked promising. Lorna's confrontation with her mother and step-father over Thanksgiving dinner is played out in Mark's mind as a fight sequence from "Raging Bull." Fortunately, the Hollywood insider bits do not become too pretentious or overbearing. The ending might not be satisfying, but the rest of "Out of Order" is worth judging on its own merits.
great show - why just the movie??.......2005-12-13
If you noticed ALL the reviews are good but people are giving lower stars because all the shows are not on the DVD. Write Showtime and complain, don't lower the star rating of the actual movie because of it. I loved this series and Dead Like Me. Neither one was ever given a chance. If HBO ran either one of these two, they would be major hits!!
Out Of Order.. ? incomplete is more accurate !.......2005-09-16
I was so excited when I saw this title released on DVD. I then foolishly puchased it not knowing they ruined it, and released it as a poor mini-movie of the Showtime series. I still cannot believe how Showtime butchered this wonderful series into to 90 odd minutes of total garbage. Is it any wonder why Showtime always places a distant second to HBO on all of their productions ?
Awful!.......2005-02-23
Though this movie depicted the reality of some marriages, it was awful. It has way too much sexual things in it, which seems to be the entire movie! I don't find this good or interesting at all. Watch a real movie that has a story line like the Pianst. I enjoyed that. But if you want to see two naked people doing it in the pool, watch this movie. If u want to see two naked people doing it in bed, watch this. If u want to see a guy cheat on his depressed wife, watch this.......

Funniest Movie Ever.......2006-12-20
This is the funniest movie I have ever seen I thought it was much better than Kicking and Screaming
A miserably tedious and pointless film.......2005-07-07
Ignore the blurb on the VHS box, the movie is not about a couple's hot parties with hip friends, it is about a couple's awful parties with jerk friends. Now, that might not be a bad thing -- in fact, I think it could be easier to make a good movie about bad parties than about good ones -- but the advertising is dishonest.
Much worse, though, is the the pointless and boring character of the movie, which is about a bunch of stupid or verbally sadistic "friends" who mostly don't like each other. While I've known cliques that keep getting together despite frictions between some members, it's inconceivable that these people would keep getting together for these abusive and tedious holiday events. Also, the couples' relationships, which come and go between these parties, are unexplained and mostly unexplored, as are some individuals' character changes, and indeed, almost everything that doesn't happen at the parties themselves.
Excellent movie.......2004-12-17
This movie is gorgeous. We consider ourselves connoisseurs of movies, and this is one of only a few that we own. If you get subtle yet truly funny comedy, own this movie.
Better than Mr Jealousy - not as good as Kicking &Screaming .......2004-08-08
If possible, view this on DVD - you'll want to cue up several different scenes. Yes. The lighting is poor, the acting is hurried, the set is something from an old high school musical (probably from Western NY). It was filmed in a week - don't kill the messenger. Nonetheless, if it's 1 am, and you can't sleep - THIS is the movie to watch. Don't expect 'Caddyshack', or 'Old School'- some parts ARE hysterical, but its humor is subtle (particularly the mannerisms of certain characters, plot holes that aren't explained, etc) - which is precisely why one can view it over and over again.
NOTE: If for no other reason - you must see this film, for the scene of the two giant lizards conversing over work at the Halloween party. Never on celluloid has the "F" word been so prefectly placed.
subpar versus Kicking & Screaming and Mr. Jealousy.......2003-01-06
Perhaps predictably, this movie suffers from not having the same kind of time and money invested in its production compared to Kicking & Screaming and Mr. Jealousy. Those two films had a uniquely beautiful combination of literate dialogue and humorous ensemble interaction. While Highball had many of the same actors from the first two movies, the overall dialogue and themes were totally different. The first two movies had irreverence mixed with the sympathy of nostalgia and the difficult emotional transition to adulthood. Highball had no direction at all.
While I no longer remember all the details of Highball, I felt that the characters were poorly defined and the plot less meaningful than Mr. Jealousy and Kicking & Screaming. The movie seemed incomplete and hastily put together.
If you like literate, witty ensemble comedies, you should definitely see Kicking and Screaming, then Mr. Jealousy, then the Whit Stillman trilogy (which also features Chris Eigeman): Metropolitan, Barcelona, and The Last Days of Disco. All 5 of those being among my favorites.

different.......2005-02-24
it was a good RDA flick but my copy the lips did not corespond is that meant to be like that it spoilt it a bit but never mind it was still well worth watching
Nibbled to Death By Ducks.......2004-09-17
This movie was well done for what it was. Unfortunately, the scriptwriter (my relative) had written a much darker, tighter and meaner script. The script was supposed to be filmed by a company we will refer to as "X". Unfortunately "X" tanked and the flick, which was supposed to be a big-screen production, was passed on to the CBS network. And that's when the changes were made...Lynn's character was meaner, the deafness thing was better integrated, Jack was unredeemable and the ending was...well, very unhappy. But you can't cast Richard Dean Anderson as a bad guy. And, oooh, Justine Bateman is too cute to be a really bad girl. And hey, we're CBS, so you can't HAVE that dark ending...and...well, I hope you get the idea...by the time the executives finished rearranging, cutting and tweaking, this is the product you had left. Can't help wondering what it might have looked like with real Hollywood treatment and less interference from the investors....
Jack before Jack and great followup to Mac.......2003-10-15
If you can follow my title than you want this DVD!!!!! RDA is excellent. The good cop/bad cop cliche works VERY well in this story. RDA plays Jack Rourke, a cop who was arrested years ago under false charges, was cleared but has never been able to shake the fact that he never gets promoted. He can't hold a relationship with anyone. Then he meets a murder witness with a HUGE story behind her also. He spends the vast majority of the film deciding whether he will actually break the law and system that have been unfair to him or keep on the right side. The movie is great and would have to be one of Richard's best works.
A must for Richard Dean Anderson fans.......2003-02-02
A bit predictable but still a must see for RDA fans.
Another flick from the bargin bin........2003-01-13
Made-for-TV thriller that is more predictable than thrilling.
Lynn is an office-clerk with a mysterious past and a tall stranger following her. The last thing she needs is to have an armed robber tell her the location of 2 million dollars in loot before he commits suicide. The other crooks involved are convinced that Lynn knows where the money is while the police know she was listening to loud music on her headphones and couldn't here a word.
As luck would have it an embittered cop is designated to be her protector and after a few rolls in the sheets he finds out Lynn's ability to read lips (incredible co-incidence isn't it?). So plots and betrayals spring up on all sides and you never know who you can trust with two million on the loose.
You average TV movie. The most redeeming feature about the DVD is that there are no commercials. But I suppose that there are enough "Family Ties" fans out there to keep this one on the shelves for a while

No one knows you are in the appartment..........2007-01-23
Justine Bateman and Adam Baldwin mesh well together. You are hooked at the very beginning. Adams characters girlfriend has committed suicide and you feel sorry for the guy. That is until you find out what type of creepy guy he is. Justines character falls under his charm and will soon find out, looks can be deceiving. Screaming or knocking wont get her out... thats because no one knows she is still in the apartment...
Generic psycho at large picture.......2005-09-02
Providing you do not place a premium on originality this movie will pass muster as an adequate if modest psycho on the loose picture.
The protagonist is a young medical student ,Marti ,winningly played by Justine Bateman .She has recently divorced the up and coming hot shot lawyer ,Jordan ,and is struggling to make ends meet while pursuing her studies .She agrees to take in a room-mate ,an outwardly charming young man but in reality a person with multiple problems .His idea of a realtionship with a woman is to exercise total control and he sets out to win Marti over and then to take over her life completely .He does not scruple to kill in pursuit of his desires and by the time she realises what she is dealing with Marti is a prisoner in her own apartment and totally dependent on her gaoler
Within its modest limits this is a serviceable picture and while it does not come anywhere near to being among the best of its type there are many worse ways to spend 90 minutes or so being decently acted and well paced
Not bad, but unrealistic.......2004-12-09
Only giving this movie 3 stars, since there are too many "hidden" scenes. It's funny how all of a sudden a soundproff room appears out of the blue, and her furniture just vanishes. Despite all of that, some scenes were hair-raising. Could be a good companion to "Single White Female".
OK movie.......2002-02-27
After reading the other review for this movie i would have to agree that it's a little unrealistic...but that's what makes the movie so much fun! And the guy that plays the killer is gorgeous!! Actually, i was switching around the stations on TV and only started watching the movie because of how cute he is...So, maybe the acting and plot aren't that great, but have you seen Center Stage? The only reason people watch that is for the cute guy...and let me tell you, this guy is a hottie.
Choose your roommates carefully........1999-03-18
A lady advertises for someone to share expenses in her apartment, and that's when a possessive man shows up to not only claim the living quarters, but the woman herself. It's a decent premise downgraded by uneven performances and roughness of the script. I couldn't believe a woman could just disappear and no one notice. And no one heard the man making the room soundproof so she couldn't scream? And no one at least saw him taking all those materials up there? This story might have been a bit more convincing if it was in a house or a cottage, but not an apartment where at least one person is going to notice some strange happenings.

Customer Reviews:
Strictly a NO-star movie !.......2006-08-14
I have 3 words for those who are thinking of buying this movie: save your money!
Justine Bateman, who was so good and so cute as Mallory Keaton in "Family Ties" made a bad choice when she agreed to star in this bomb. It is badly written, amateurishly directed, choppy and disconnected. It goes from slow all the way to boring! The plot is thin, the dialogue worse.
Andrew McCarthy has almost a bit part in this waste of film, as Bateman's husband. Actually, he provides the best single scene in the whole sloppy thing, when Bateman dreams that her husband (McCarthy) is trying to kill her. He is fully menacing and intense, and this is the only good scene to be found anywhere in this nonsense.
The beginning is not so good, the ending is predictable and, well - boring!
I repeat: Save your money.
