Good idea for a movie, but inept script and fumbling performances. Melissa is a favorite of mine but she didn't have much to work with in this script and she seemed struggling to make something out of nothing. Lindsay did what she was told to do, but what she was told was wrong.

This could have been a deeply moving story, but the screenwriter decided to hold everything and everyone at arms length, maybe trying to be different or trying to be sophisticated. Who knows?

Also, the casting of the male romantic lead is a joke. You can't expect the audience to fall in love with a guy who looks like this.

Thicker Than Water is a heartfelt T.V. movie. Although, Lindsay Wagner has a limited role, she is in fine form against Melissa Gilbert as the lead. Hallmark All of Fame type of movie, Thicker than Water has all the right ingredients : drama, a bit of supense and a lot of funny moments. Highly recommended.

I was not disappointed in the movie. It only goes to prove that there are
some good directors and producers out there - that "clean" family movies
can be made and are here to stay. Keep up the good work.

The story of the movie was good but they still had to add some mild language. It is not what I would consider a "family movie" because of the language.

A series for the whole family. Something for everyone. Great actors, including the children. Good background scenes, alot of horse drawn rigs. Get a feel for the way life was many years ago. Go back in time and enjoy.

This was my favorite book series as a child, but somehow I missed the premier of this series. I saw the first episode of the tv show, but never saw the original tv pilot. I bought this and loved every second. I highly recommend this to any Laura Ingalls Wilder fan.

I am a Little House fan so this was a must have for me. You will not be dissapointed. The pilot is based on the time before the Ingalls family live in Walnut Grove. You also meet Mr Edwards. My passion for this series began with Michael Landon and his creative genius for delving into positive family values. I look forward to the time when my children are old enough and we can watch the series together.

There are a couple of things missing in this movie that are in the book but not too many. I always loved the series but this pilot was great to go back and watch. reminded me that I love the books. Go old school and rewatch it. I intend on buying the whole series. I want my kids to watch them all.

This is a great horse movie for the in between ages of horse lovers. However, the dressage and cross country training are not realistic as it takes years to develop a 3 day event horse. Good use of our olympic riders for the actual eventing. I'm over 50, have trained and shown most of my life and this is still a favorite movie.

This is one of those infuriating movies: most of it is splendid--five stars (the parts involving the horse and the girl who learns to ride). The rest stinks--one star (the "love" story).

There's nothing wrong with putting a love story into a movie like this. It could have made the movie better. But you don't put in any love story into any script in which one of the characters is repulsive. Any script consultant could have told the producer that. (And every screenwriter of any worth should know it.) The screenwriter did everything she could think of to make this guy obnoxious and she succeeded. Is she serious? Would you advise any friend of yours to marry a creep like this? I kept thinking that it was going to be alright because she was eventually going to tell him to take a hike, so when--with no understable motivation--she gave herself to him sexually, it was revolting (and I like a good love scene). If we believed such an outrageous turn of events, we would have to say that this girl has serious psychological problems (even though there is no other evidence of such problems). In the end, we can only hope that she wises up during her coming year and finds a man worthy of her.

And we can hope that other producers and screenwriters learn from this huge mistake and write only love stories in which both characters are lovable.

The story is pretty forgetable BUT the horses can move and the people can ride. The libery jump over a pickup is hard to beat. The cross counrty at KY Horse Park is well done and the stadium jumping is well presented.

This is a very engrossing and haunting movie with superb acting. It tackles some very sensitive issues including the emotional attachment and bond that can exist between two people. Claudia (Melissa Gilbert) is a shy and sensitive woman who is swept off her feet by Tom (Tim Matheson), after she meets him with his ten-year old son Joshua (Matthew Lawrence) at the movie theatre. She develops an instant bond with Joshua who is starved for motherly attention as his mother left him when he was 5 years of age. His father is busy with work and he is often left in the care of babysitters. In a whirlwind romance Claudia moves in with Tom and develops a motherly relationship with Joshua. He even spends Christmas with her and her family when Tom can't get back from a business trip, and also helps her with the children's book she is writing and illustrating. The relationship with Tom is not all that she hopes it would be and she soon realizes that he is a selfish person who is not interested in settling down. In fact he has already moved on with another woman. Claudia & Joshua continue to be bonded together even after she moves out, and Claud faces an interesting dilemma. Does she try to adopt Joshua, or does she take a step back and allow him to bond with his real mother who is trying to start over? This is a very good movie, but on a cautionary note, this is not a traditional 'family' movie. The storyline is rather mature and the presence of pre-marital sex and smoking by the major adult characters, may cause many parents to reject this movie for family viewing. Due to the issues presented, I think it is most appropriate for pre-teens to adults.

I wanted to see this film after watching on television another one of the films based on one of her books. What drew me to it was how Zoya escaped the fate of her family. If I could get a few of her books I want to read on dvd instead, I would buy them too.

I had read the book first and loved it. So I was eager to watch the movie of it.
I understand that the books are always better than movie version, and they have to cut scenes out from the book, but they not only cut through (what seems as half the book) they also changed so much of the story. Had I saw the movie first, I probably wouldn't have wanted to read the book.
The story itself (for the movie version) is still good. It does connect you to the book even more.
I wasn't too thrilled with Melissa Gilbert as Zoya, she did ok. Simon wasn't really what I expected either. But the other characters were great. Bruce filled the role of Clayton perfectly.
If you haven't read the book, I would recommend reading the book first, then watching the movie.

It's almost as good as the book. Really worth the dough. However, some parts of the movie is pretty stiff.

I have a 4yr old boy and a 6yr old girl and cant tell you enough about how much we enjoyed this movie especially over the Christmas season. The plots are clean yet interesting and teach us the true meanings of Christmas. These shows are a great lesson on working on conflict resolution and how simple life could be. I only wish television could be this clean again.

If you are a Little House fan or grew up watching the show like I did then I recommend this DVD for your collection. It is wonderful to have for those Holiday home programming nights! Right along with Rudolph and Santa Clause is coming to town. I am purchasing all seasons of Little House so these are in there respectively, but having them separately together on one DVD is special. The first one Christmas at Plum Creek teaches as always lessons on humanity, love and true giving. The second one as they are older is more like a family reunion with Little House family. I would recommend buying it.

It's a wonderful episode to watch at holiday time or anytime and will have you running the usual range of emotions we are always treated to in these wonderful stories.

These stories sold separately from the season sets are nice for anyone who just has a couple of favorites, or as a wonderful addition to you family holiday viewing. Look other single episodes and double features sold separately.

So gather the youngins around,'get out the way for Old Dan Tucker' and go get those Kleenex, (you know you'll need em) and...Enjoy.....Laurie

Love this film.......2005-08-31

One day as I was flipping through the channels I came across this film at it's beginning and could not stop watching it. I tend to love everything Melissa Gilbert is in and this is a really a cool story. It's about two women who's babies were switched in the hospital. They take them home and after years of raising them find out that they were switched. I won't get into why they find out, but it's very interesting. This movie is very suspensful and I had to see how this was going to end. The way the women try to work everything out is very "Hollywood" and maybe a little unrealistic, but it's still a really good movie. It is based on a true story.

Two of the finest hours in Little House history. The two hour special begings with Mary slowly going blind and the town of Walnut Grove in grave danger. Charles must bring a broken hearted Mary to a blind school. Little does Mary know that her new life has just begun. She enters a dark new world, but comes out seeing life in a new light. Her teacher, Adam Kendall, at the school shows her how to see with her hands, as well as with her heart. He opens her eyes and teachs her not to feel sorry for herself just because she can not see.
It's about closing your eyes and finally being able to see. Mary's dreams of becoming a teacher and finding real love finally come true.
Melissa Sue Anderson gives a stand out performance.

I really like this dvd!This tells the story of when Mary Ingalls goes blind and goes to the blind school in Iowa!It is kinda sad,but it is still good!
It has two episodes,and heres what they are about:
I`ll Be Waving As You Drive Away(Part 1)-When Mary starts having trouble seeing,Charles is devastated to learn that she will go blind completely in a matter of time.One morning when she wakes up,she can`t see...she had went blind over night.Charles and Caroline convince her to go to a blind school in Iowa.

I`ll Be Waving As You Drive Away(Part 2)-Mary goes to the blind school in Iowa.At first she hates it;being away from her family and all.But then she creates a special bond with her teacher,Adam Kendall,and then creates love.She does not know that this man will become her husband in a later season.She also decides to still try and become a teacher,like Ma always dreamed she would!

Well,theres my review of this Little House dvd!Hoped it helped!If you`re not confortable about bying just this one two-part episode for 13 dollars,I reccomend getting the complete 4th season on dvd,which contains this episode,and the rest of season 4!

In a very unclear and probably intentionally confusing marketing move, this and all of the other "2-hour TV special" Little House DVDs being released separated are actually included on the Complete Season box sets being released by the same company. I purchased three of these "specials" before realizing that they were all 2-part episodes to be found on the complete season sets. This one, for example, can be found on the Complete Third Season, which is now available. While I don't have a problem with these 2-part shows being released separately, I don't understand the need for it and I really, really wish that it would be made clear somewhere on the packaging. Considering that these single disc releases have no special features, this is the worst example of DVD "double dipping" I've seen in a long time!!

Hands down, "I'll Be Waving as You Drive Away" is a classic in the "Little House on the Prairie" series and is something you'll definitely want to see if you're a fan of the show. Indeed, it is a critical turning point, both on the show and in the true-to-life books, and it launches some drastic changes in the entire Ingalls family. When fifteen-year-old Mary is stricken with blindness, it is her initial denial and her family's fear and guilt that makes for a very emotional first few months. Mary's parents send her to a top-notch school for the blind, where she refuses to learn at first but is pulled in the right direction by her patient teacher Adam Kendall. In time, they form a loving bond that will last forever, and Mary's character matures a hundred times over through her experience.

This is a beautiful episode, and it is easy to see why actress Melissa Sue Anderson was nominated for an Emmy for her performance here as Mary. This entire show is filled with many memorable, touching, and sometimes shattering moments that test a family's strength and inspire you. Anyone who takes the time to appreciate this wonderful show will definitely see that.

As some of you may remember, this single-episode DVD was released
a few years ago, back when Seasons 1 and 2 were brought to DVD for the first time. This episode, along with the pilot, "Journey in the Spring," "As Long as We're Together," and "No Place Like Home" all got their own individual DVD's. Many have criticized this as being a bad case of double dipping, which may be true, but it may also have simply been an attempt to accommodate those who didn't want to invest in the $50-per-season DVD sets and were content with just having some of the standout episodes for a lower price.

Wonderful episode, superb TV series...highly recommended.

BEST episode of the 4th season!!!!!!!.......2003-08-23

This is televison at its BEST in the 1970's and LHOTP at its BEST!!!!! the acting is superb and this is the season finale for season 4, this is also the most pivotal point in the LHOTP storylines. the episode is all about Mary going blind and how the Ingalls deal with Mary's blindness. 5 stars out of 5
