<I>Step Up</I> happily joins the long line of movies intoxicated by sexy bodies in motion. When an overachieving dancer (Jenna Dewan, <I>Take the Lead</I>) at an East Coast art school loses her partner just before a big showcase, her only possible replacement is a young tough (Channing Tatum, <I>She's the Man</I>) doing community service as a janitor. From there, <I>Step Up</I> slams together a folio of cliches, from prissy-rich-girl-gets-loosened-up-by-poor-boy to hoodlum-learns-the-error-of-his-ways-through-personal-tragedy to artist-discovers-his-voice. It's set in one of those performing arts schools where the students burst into spontaneous synchronized dance at parties. But <I>Step Up</I>, directed by choreographer Anne Fletcher, has a relaxed kinetic momentum and enough texture to give the nonsense just a hint of realistic grit. More than anything, <I>Step Up</I> shows off hunky Channing Tatum. With his sleepy eyes, broad jaw, and sloping neck, Tatum looks like an Easter Island statue come to life. His acting range may be limited, but Tatum has a definite lazy charisma; even when dancing full tilt, he looks like he just woke up and is still dreaming of the night before. <I>Step Up</I> also features Rachel Griffiths (<I>Six Feet Under</I>) as the requisite tough-but-loving-authority-figure. <I>--Bret Fetzer</I>

Description

When Tyler finds himself doing community service at a school for the performing arts, he also finds Nora, a beautiful and privileged classically trained dancer who's searching for a temporary replacement for her injured dance partner. Spying Tyler's smooth moves, Nora decides to take a chance on him. But as they begin training, tension builds, tempers flare and the differences in their backgrounds explode — igniting this electrifying tale about not giving up on your dreams.

5 out of 5 stars great movie!!.......2007-06-11

my daughter and i love this movie. she has watched it over and over even with the commentary! she is 14 and i am almost 40 and we both agree that it was very good. we like music and dance. and channing tatum is a good actor and good looking too!

4 out of 5 stars lbuggie's review.......2007-05-29

I saw this movie just this past week-end and I must say, I really liked it! My favorite part was when Tyler and Nora first danced together in the spot their friend Lucy sang at with her boyfriend, the jerk. Same ol' plot, but different in it's own unique way.

5 out of 5 stars Step Up.......2007-05-28

I am an admitted dance-film addict. Moreover, I am fixated with Channing Tatum, mostly because he is exceedingly hot (that is a scientific term). Obviously I enjoyed the movie, although I prefer the preppy Channing of "She's the Man". Still, the film was fun and entertaining and while no one is going to win any academy awards it is an enjoyable feel-good movie all the same. If you like dancing movies, you will enjoy this one.

4 out of 5 stars Fun and hip.......2007-04-14

Channing Tatum as Tyler Gage gives a great performance in this fun movie. The basic idea is a bit contrived, but it works: a no-gooder teenager with a knack for rap is reluctantly coopted by a beautiful dancer in need of a partner. He will of course help her jazz up her act, she will make him a better man, and they will fall in love. Aside from annoying zigzags in Tyler's commitment (one slip is OK, but three?!), the script pulls us in. It is helped by a lot of dancing, not always great but always energetic. Rachel Griffiths is excellent in the minor role of the principal of the art school.

5 out of 5 stars Step Up.......2007-04-13

I enjoyed this movie. I finally got to see Channing Tatum show his true talent. Jenna is also awsome in this. Every film that I've seen her in she never fails to deliver a good performance. This movie touches on a group of kids from different sides of the track, but are brought together by common bonds, music and dance. I also enjoy the bonus features of this movie, videos and submission tapes.

Product Description

Something rotten is brewing beneath the industrial mecca known as Raccoon City. Unknown to its millions of residents, a huge underground bioengineering facility known as The Hive has accidentally unleashed the deadly and mutating T-virus, killing all of its employees. To contain the leak, the governing supercomputer, Red Queen, has sealed all entrances and exits. Now a team of highly-trained super commandos including Rain (Michelle Rodriguez - The Fast and the Furious, Girlfight), Alice (Milla Jovovich - The Fifth Element) and Matt (Eric Mabius - Cruel Intentions) must race to penetrate The Hive in order to isolate the T-virus before it overwhelms humanity. To do so, they must get past the Red Queen's deadly defenses, face the flesh-eating undead employees, fight killer mutant dogs and battle The Licker, a genetically mutated savage beast whose strength increases with each of its slain victims.

Marilyn Manson worked on the soundtrack, so it's no surprise that <I>Resident Evil</I> is best enjoyed by headbangers, goth guys, and PlayStation junkies. Like the interactive game it's based on, this horror hybrid pits a small band of SWAT-like commandos (including Milla Jovovich and <I>Girlfight</I>'s Michelle Rodriguez) against a ravenous hoard of zombies, resulting in a gorefest that only sociopaths could love. The tenacious heroes are trapped inside the Hive--an underground complex where an evil corporation conducts illegal research with a deadly virus--and the zombies (reanimated corpses of sacrificed employees) are fodder for endless rounds of gunfire. It's utter nonsense (not unlike director Paul W.S. Anderson's previous <I>Event Horizon</I>), so your best defense is to wallow in it or avoid this trash altogether. A few cool sequences are borrowed from better films (that slice-and-dice laser is cribbed from the 1998 Canadian shocker <I>Cube</I>), but if you're in the mood for heavy-metal carnage, this movie's for you. <I>--Jeff Shannon</I>

1 out of 5 stars One of the worst video-game based movies ever.......2007-05-15

Flaunting what has to be some of the most laughable CGI, or any sort of special effects in the history of filmmaking, this well over hyped movie exhibits the bulk of what is wrong with the so-called mainstream "art" of movie making all in this one film.

Based on the popular video game series, which, by the way, if you want a real scare you'd be better off watching the game unfold while playing it, the greatest downfall of Resident Evil is in the special effects and the acting department.

The first few minutes into Resident Evil, a good three-fourths into the film, the movie is interesting and leaves much more than the given final product to be desired.

Those familiar with the game will recall The Mansion.

The first few scenes both in The Mansion and on its grounds are breathtaking.

Minus the slight nude scene of Milla Jovovich, which, would not have been a problem had it (artistically) motivated the plot even a little, the opening sequence and scenes in The Mansion are pretty satisfactory.

Then came the acting...

The most annoying thing about this movie is that a lot of times real acting is replaced with gestures, facial expressions, or over acting, which we misinterpret as real and good or great acting.

As is the case in Resident Evil, the men and women do not act but rather spew out unoriginal, recycled dialogue and give repetitive puppy-eyed (Jovovich) or tough-guy er...chick expressions (Michelle Rodriguez), for the duration of the film.

Even more, there is the emotional attatchment.

It's a zombie movie.

Once your best friend turns into a zombie what do you do? You shoot them.

While that would obviously be hard to do, after the first or second friend turns into a zombie you would think these characters would know not to put their hands under the face of someone who is obviously alive yet not responsive or wait almost two minutes to make a move (while in the meantime getting teary-eyed and letting down their guard).

As far as the special effects, laughable sums it up.

I hope that the special effects team members do not consider this film a staple of their artistic careers and achievements...

In one scene, there are a set of creatures which come out of a set of cargoes. These creatures look like Nimrod from NBC's Surface (which works on the show but needless to say, not in this movie).

There is one creature in Resident Evil which was royally totalled beyond measure in comparison to its realistic and terrifying graphic depiction in the game. Those who have played Resident Evil will know whom (or the "it" to whom) I am referring to.

It's the creature on the wall.

In the game, as the character walks around this corner you see the creature on the wall crawling toward him.

I can't even compare the paralyzing effect that the game had on me, which made me pause it at some moments for days on end for fear of the next creatures to be encountered(lol).

The movie never came close to this kind of terror.

Lastly, the special effects which helped in the killing off of certain characters was also very mediocre.

I will not describe in detail (so as not to detract from your movie-watching pleasure) but I will say that you will laugh much more than you will cringe.

In conclusion, my advice is play the game, don't buy the movie.

4 out of 5 stars GOOD STUFF.......2007-04-17

I really liked this movie. The sets were excellent, the acting decent, the action very good. I never played the game so I came into it totally unbiased. This is definately on my top ten list of movies to watch on cold winter days when I'm able to curl up in front of the tv and enjoy myself.

You've already got the basic story line from other folks and apparently this is a 'love it' or 'hate it' type. Maybe if you can see the movie while putting aside the game you'll have a better time. Just sit back and enjoy the story and the action. You'll do just fine.

5 out of 5 stars Roaring Transition Of A Great Game Line Into A Great Movie.......2007-04-10

"Resident Evil" starts off with a slam-bang double-opening - inside an ultra high-tech underground research-and-development facility, something goes terribly wrong and a gas escapes as the facility's emergency system kicks in, locking down the building and resulting in the apparant deaths of hundreds of employees; at about the same time, above ground, a young woman named Alice (Milla Jovovich) wakes up inside a grand mansion with no memory of who she is, only minutes before the place is stormed by a group of well-armed commandoes. Thus begins the successful movie adaptation of the "Resident Evil" series of video games.

With "Resident Evil", it was far from a given that it could make such a good transition into a movie, to me at least. It's not like "Silent Hill" (which has also generated an excellent movie) or "Fatal Frame" (which I'm still waiting for the movie version of), both of which had lots of identifiable movie potential from the beginning. The "Resident Evil" games are a bit different, almost nonstop action, most of them not as developed along character or story purposes (these aspects have begun growing in some of the more recent Resident games). They needed to fill in some areas for the movie to be as good as the games. Most of the games pit S.T.A.R. (a highly trained law enforcement organization) agents against hordes of ravenous zombies, occasionally teaming the S.T.A.R. agents with other characters. It's made a lot of great games, but could it move into just as great a movie? One thing they did was split the focus up among more characters of different backgrounds - you've got the S.T.A.R. team, you've got the amnesiac Alice - whose nature is kept a mystery until near the movie's end) - as a main point-of-view character, there are the Umbrella (the name of the corporation that owns the underground facility) people and you've got another major character coming into it from outside the main 'groups'. (This trend of character diversifaction has continued with the "Resident Evil: Apocalypse" sequel, and some of the more recent entries to the game line) It takes longer to build into where the zombie carnage really starts flying, which is fitting for the first entry of a movie series. It introduces the elements at a pace that's equally good for longtime fans of the games and books as well as for viewers who've never even heard of the concept. All in all, the transition was more successful than I thought it could be - this is a great, hi-octane horror-action movie which succeeds in establishing good characters and a great 'edge-of-catacylsm' air. The ending flows directly into "Apocalypse"; and a third "Resident Evil" movie is coming in Fall 2007.

Great beginning to what's shaping up to be a great, and long-running, horror saga.

5 out of 5 stars Unexpected good.......2007-01-27

First of all this film definitely need to watch at least because of two beautiful and strong women: Milla Jovovich and Michelle Rodriguez

Cool movie on its own, independent of the game. Milla Jovovich is great. The dogs are great. The zombies are great. The scene with the English guy in the narrow corridor going after the computer core - whoa!

There's some good shooting action in this. Milla doing some descend hand to hand. Michelle Rodriguez plays girl who is like a soldier and don't afraid to anything. Nice trap in depth of a thousand meters underground with zombies, dogs, dangerous system - this film is worth seeing.

I enjoyed this and will watch it again. It's cool when you can say that about a movie.

4 out of 5 stars A guilty pleasure of the grim, industrial variety.......2006-12-15

I recently watched this again after getting my 5.1 on and was suprised at how entertaining it was.

Here are some reasons I found to like it:

1. Sinister corporate paranoia - The idea that things could go terribly wrong when the activities of large, greedy corporations are left unchecked is not exactly far-fetched. The creepy goings on at the Umbrella Corp present a currently relevent scenario.

2. Hot chicks - Milla & Michelle are worth watching anytime; but especially when they do the tough-girl thing.
Milla looks particularly nice when semi-nude.

3. Delivers the goods - When it comes time for action, suspence & zombie attacks, this flick is fun.

4. Industrial setting - If you like that asthetic, lots of cement and steel for you. Industrial music too!

While not going down in history as a genre classic ( it's not doing anything inventive or original ), it's actually a pretty good time for the monster movie crowd. What it lacks for in substance, it makes up for in atmosphere, brisk pacing and visceral thrills.

With refreshing energy, <I>Blue Crush</I> is the kind of movie that girls and young women deserve to see more of. It's mostly for them (although nice tans and bikinis will attract the guys), and it rejuvenates the surf-movie tradition by showing real girls with real friendships, coping with absent parents, borderline poverty, rocky romance, and the challenge of raising a kid sister. For young Hawaiian Anne Marie (Kate Bosworth), those responsibilities are motivations to excel as a champion-class surfer... if she can overcome the fear of drowning, which she nearly did in a previous wipeout. Supportive friends (<I>Girlfight</I>'s Michelle Rodriguez, and Sanoe Lake) help her reach the climactic competition on Oahu's infamous Bonzai Pipeline, and like <I>Saturday Night Fever</I>, this engaging film uplifts the working class without condescension, riding high toward the joy of achievement. Himself an amateur surfer, director John Stockwell (<I>Crazy/Beautiful</I>) captures the extreme thrill of the sport while respecting the forces of nature and human behavior. <I>--Jeff Shannon</I>

Annemarie Chadwick (Kate Bosworth) and her two best friends, Eden (Michelle Rodriguez), Lena (Sanoe Lake), and Annemarie's little sister Penny (Mika Boorem) are extremely good at, and love to surf!! Actually Annemarie is so good at surfing that she gets invited to go and surf at the annual Pipe Masters Contest! But when it comes down to actually go and surf in the morning, everyone tends to have a tight schedule, because everyone wakes up at 6:30 just to go and surf! After surfing however, Annemarie rushes to get Penny to school, although she has to make sure Penny won't ditch. On top of all that, Annemarie, Eden and Lena all have to rush to their job, which are being hotel maids. However Annemarie gets fired from her job for publicly embarrassing a V.I.P guest, who happens to be a professional football player! Soon after being fired, Matt (Matthew Davis) the quarter back of the football team, comes to find Annemarie for surfing lessons. This starts a new romance between Annemarie and Matt. So now Annemarie struggles between a new romance, taking care of Penny (so hopefully Penny would stop smoking) and training for pipe masters. Annemarie struggles with training because she's too afraid that she will have another near drowning incident that happened three years before.

I thought that this movie was A-MAZING!! I loved the drama and the competition! If you ever watch this movie, I think that you might feel the same way! I think the director's use of music is really cool and good and has good taste, because some of the music is tropical, and some is sport-like. In my opinion, I think the movie setting was at one of the amazing places ever, HAWAII!!!!
So if you like the ocean, surfing and watching competitions, I think that you might want to watch this movie!!!

5 out of 5 stars Worth rebuying.......2007-04-11

I bought this movie about 4 years ago. I loved it so much. But with most movies they get damaged sooner or later. This is a movie worth rebuying over and over again, because you'll watch it over and over agian. It teaches you to never give up and hold close to your loved ones, no matter what.

3 out of 5 stars Not enough surfing, but I enjoyed the scenery........2006-11-10

Overall the movie was cool for me. The storyline was so-so and there wasn't enough surfing. I did enjoy the bit of good surfing they had though. The main reason I bought the movie was because it was filmed on Oahu (although there were parts that I think may have been filmed in Maui but passed off as Oahu). The special features had some good footage.

5 out of 5 stars Refreshing.......2006-11-03

Now in a multi-year drought dominated by cheap horror flix, I recalled having seen Kate Bosworth and Michelle Rodriguez in a surfing movie. I went digging into the Amazon stacks and found it here. What I hadn't recalled was that this is a film centered around telling a more serious story about women in surfing and some of the more intricate aspects of beach culture in Hawaii. So, you are drawn inside the competitive mind where the challenge is to meet every expectation from making the rent, to having a life, to fighting the fears that would take away the chance to ride the next wave. It's fun and serious all at the same time. The film also contains some early work in face replacement and employs new approaches to filming the sport; so, it also makes an interesting study in visual effects and cinematography.

2 out of 5 stars Kate Bosworth has a hot body for a white chick.......2006-09-29

Too bad she got all creepy-skinny later on. This movie is totally uninspired but Kate Bosworth and Michelle Rodriguez are hot and nearly nekkid throughout, so it's worth watching just for that. The plot is garbage.

A guilty pleasure with excess horsepower, <I>The Fast and the Furious</I> efficiently combines time-honored male fantasies (hot cars, hot women, hot action) into a vacuous plot of crystalline purity. It's trash, but it's <I>fun</I> trash, in which a hotshot Los Angeles cop named Brian (Paul Walker) infiltrates a gang of street racers suspected of fencing stolen goods from hijacked trucks. The gang leader is Dom (Vin Diesel), ex-con and reigning king of the street racers, who lives for those 10 seconds of freedom when his high-performance "rice rocket" (a highly modified Asian import) hurtles toward another quarter-mile victory. Racing is street theater for a lawless youth subculture, and Dom is a star behind the wheel--charismatic, dangerous, and protective toward his sister Mia (Jordana Brewster), who's attracted to Brian as the newest member of Dom's car-crazy team.

Director Rob Cohen treats this like Roman tragedy for MTV junkies, pushing every scene to adrenaline-pumping extremes; when his camera isn't caressing a spectrum of nitrous oxide-enhanced dream machines, it's ogling countless slim 'n' sexy race babes. The undercover-cop scenario cheaply borrows the split-loyalty theme perfected in <I>Donnie Brasco</I>; a rival Asian gang adds mystery and menace; and digital trickery is cleverly employed to explore the fuel-injected innards of the day-glo racecars. It's about as substantial as a perfume ad, but just as alluring, and for heavy-metal maniacs of any age, Diesel's superblown '69 Charger proves that Detroit muscle never goes out of style. <I>--Jeff Shannon</I>

4 out of 5 stars For anyone who likes a bit of unpretentious high speed fun........2007-06-13

I remember watching the trailer of "The Fast and the Furious" in cinemas. After watching the trailer I decided it maybe a decent enough movie, with plenty of thrilling car chases through huge cities kind of like "The Italian Job" and "The Driver" style... but I was so mistaken. This movie is the bomb. I believe that the only reason that all these people are doggin it is because they are envious. There is no way in this world that any of them could have done what these actors and actresses have done to make this movie come to life,

Paul Walker (The Skulls) plays a bland blond cop who infiltrates a seedy crew led by Vin Diesel (who has in fact, done much better work in films as "Saving Private Ryan" and "Boiler Room"). This group includes his sister (Jordana Brewster) and his tomboy girlfriend (Michelle Rodriguez). Their M.O. is knocking over semi's filled with electronic equipment.

This movie really hits home with the casting and dialogue, the whole movie has a feel like they just set the camera down in the middle of the street racing scene and every line feels improvised. (Which I found out on the DVD that many of the lines were). it raises itself just above the typical "Teen" movie but still keeps true to that youthful genre. I hated cars before I saw this movie, I never thought anything about racing or about cars in general. If you're planning on buying a couple of movies any time soon then "The Fast and The Furious" should be one of them. Oh yeah, and it doesn't matter if you win by an inch or a mile, winning IS winning.

4 out of 5 stars Mindless, but Very Enjoyable!.......2007-05-31

I'm reading these reviews and I ask myself if these people were expecting a Casablanca, or a Gone with the Wind, or Saving Private Ryan, or Forrest Gump, or some other deep, Oscar-worthy masterpiece. ITS A RACING MOVIE WITH HOT GUYS AND GALS! Its a popcorn, summer flick, to watch lightheartdly and just enjoy the action. This is ALL its meant for!!!

If you like the action, the intense racing scenes, then pick this one up. The HD presentation is simply beautiful and the sound is outrageously crsip. Pump this baby through a 7.1 and turn in up! Sit in the middle of throttle opening, gas blasting, nitrous spraying goodness! If you want a good action flick and you dig fast cars and fast women (there's content in there for the ladies too) then pick this one up. You won't regret it.

3 out of 5 stars Agree with Amazon Review.......2007-05-02

I agree with the Amazon reviews that said this was a guilty pleasure. While I wasn't interested in any way watching "hot women", the hot and fast action of high power muscle cars and street racing has some merit. Pure enjoyment and knowledge that this is a movie, not reality.

Also... agreement with another reviewer - all my stars go to the racing sequences. They are heart pumping and great to watch. While not Oscar material and not a movie to develop solid positive role models, definitely good to see if you're in that kind of mood.

3 out of 5 stars Point Break remake!!!.......2007-01-29

I finally saw this film for the first time, & although it has some cool cars & action, it is a bit unreal, I own a Mitsubishi Eclipse, & although they can get up in speed, they CANNOT do all the magic tricks that Paul Walker's character's car does in this, sorry, at 140 miles per hour you damn well nearly lose control of the car, I know, have done it before & will not do it again, & that was on the interstate, this is my only gripe about this, aside from the fact that it is geared toward un-educated teenagers that might not understand what a car can & cannot do, overall, it has good eye candy, & can be enjoyed if not taken too seriously.

1 out of 5 stars A movie for stuck up wannabe's. 0/5 stars.......2007-01-04

This movie was complete high school garbage the racing & the beutiful dumb women was boastful the violence was offensive the actors sucked paul walker was a complete morononic racing wannabe vin diesel was a racing god & a pimp that has a highly respectful reputation (who cares) this entire movie was pointless and a waste of time and money. Just one of hollywoods dangerous influential films to get more and more teens killed in car crashes every year. I hate this movie theres no real plot line and it's very boastful.

Wes Craven served as executive producer on this direct-to-video chiller about a group of friends who discover that the remote island they've chosen as a vacation spot is home to a wild pack of attack dogs. After dispatching a sailboater and his bikini-clad girlfriend, the canines (which look more cuddly than ferocious) pick off the interloping friends with all-too-human cunning; the survivors have just enough time to discover that the mutts are the product of military genetic experiments to create unstoppable attack dogs. Director Nick Mastrandrea (a longtime production associate of both Craven and George Romero) lends a professional look to his debut feature, and gets decent performances from his cast (which includes Lost's Michelle Rodriguez, Taryn Manning, and Oliver Hudson), but the script is tired almost from page one, and the resulting action and gore do little to help this indie picture stand out from the rest of the horror crowd. Dog lovers with soft hearts should be forewarned that the CGI stand-ins for the animal actors endure some gruesome abuse in the course of the picture. --Paul Gaita

Product Description

A group of friends (Michelle Rodriguez, Taryn Manning, Hill Harper and Oliver Hudson) fly away to a deserted island for the weekend, an island once controlled by a special canine research unit. They soon realize that this beautiful getaway will become their biggest nightmare. Inspired by the horror classics, Cujo and The Birds. The Breed takes you into the jaws of a flesh eating pack of wild dogs, genetically engineered to hunt and kill. Outnumbered and trapped they struggle to outsmart and outrun this terrifying species.

2 out of 5 stars Wes Craven is toying around .......2007-06-22

Really kind of disappointed with Craven's work in the last several years, and this movie is just more proof of that feeling. With "The Breed" he does bring out some scary options for the typical characters he has. In this movie they are of course just a bunch of college students on some vacation getaway on an island that formerly housed some secret government test facility that experimented with dogs.

It has the usual problem presented which has the youths trying to figure out a plan of escape as well as at times, a plan of attack. In the end I just felt like this movie was sub standard slash that did not have enough staying power to make me feel like it had any value to be viewed again. Craven needs to concentrate on getting more intricate scripts that are followed up by some better actors, but that costs more money so I am not expecting anything spectacular from him anytime soon.

4 out of 5 stars What Has Happened To Audiences?.......2007-06-22

One of the first "scare" movies I saw in the 70's as a kid, was a movie called "The Pack". It was basically a pack of dogs acting in the same vein as the shark in "Jaws". Now comes the idea redone as "The Breed". Honestly, I didn't expect much from this movie. But it is really well done. A lot of horror movies in the 70's were not necessarily by the numbers, genre pictures. They were dramatic movies with a few horrific elements thrown in. In those type of movies, you actually got to know the characters and saw them interact in a realistic way before something both scary and plausible happened to them. That is exactly what this movie is and it is a reliable good time for any late night cable viewing or to own. Apparently, after reading the other reviews here, the audience of today has come to expect a formula that "The Breed" does not fit into. I love sex and violence just as much as the next guy, but when was the last time you saw believable characters in a low budget horror? For me, probably it was "Dead Mary". So this doesn't feature a Jason like hacker, or blood and guts, so what? This was well thought out, acted, written, and directed. What has happened to audiences that they can't stand a decent story without scare, pause, scare, pause, scare...

2 out of 5 stars I can think of a whole bunch of similar movies you should see instead of this one.......2007-06-22

If you are worried that because this movies is called "Wes Craven Presents 'The Breed'" rather than simply "The Breed" that is a clear sign that this is not a good movie, then you are right. To be fair, first-time director Nicholas Mastandrea has been the first assistant director on all three of Craven's Scream Trilogy, so you can understand Craven wanting to give his blessing to this project and what problems there are with "The Breed" (not to be confused with "The Breed," a 2001 film set in a distant future where vampires try to live among regular folk as a special and peaceful breed) really has little to do with Mastandrea's work as a director. When you put the DVD in the menu comes up and you see a young woman being menaced by what looks like a wolf, only this movie is about dogs and not wolves and none of the dogs look like the illustrated wolf. So as I watched this movie, time and time again as different elements were worked into the film I kept thinking of other (better) films with the same elements (you want to see a wolf go after a pretty girl, check out "Brotherhood of the Wolf"), and I knew that would be the motif of this review.

"The Breed" begins with a couple showing up at this deserted island in their sailboat. Jenny (Lisa-Maire Schneider) goes exploring and quickly meets her fate while Luke (Nick Boraine) calls her name and gets no answer (a better "getting off the sailboat is a big mistake" movie would be (Open Water 2: Adrift"). Jump ahead to five twenty-somethings flying in a small plane to the same deserted island (well, if it was a different deserted island it would not make sense). There are two brothers, John (Oliver Hudson, "Black Christmas") the black sheep and Matt (Eric Lively, "The Butterfly Effect 2") the good guy ("The Bible ... In the Beginning" has the original bickering brothers, Cain and Abel). Matt is interested in Sara (Taryn Manning, "Crossroads"), while Matt is with Nicki (Michelle Rodriguez, "Resident Eveil"). Tagging along is fifth wheel Noah (Hill Harper, "He Got Game"), who is so obviously going to be the first person to die you have to wonder if this is a nudge-nudge wink-wink to "Scream." Anyhow, basically the people meet the dogs and then what passes for terror in this movie takes place. The point where I was convinced the movie was going in the wrong direction was when Sara gets bit and not because the group fails to take the opportunity to get out while the getting out is good, but because once Sara starts to get affected by the bite she gets....sort of horny. (down, boys, there is no nudity in this film, only gratuitous cleavage). The plot also involves using a bow-and-arrow ("The Adventures of Robin Hood"), trying to get a car to start("Cujo"), and finding the lab where this all began ("The Lost World - Jurassic Park").

Now, you have to understand that when I was very little I was jumped on by a German shepherd and for the next twenty years or so of my life I was terrified of dogs (I see a dog and the dog would immediately smell fear). So the thought of a pack of dogs coming after people should make me squirming. When I was in high school there was a movie called "The Doberman Gang," which was only about a gang using Dobermans to rob a bank, but damned if I was going to go see a movie with vicious dogs. But as I watched "The Breed" what I was reminded of was not my irrational childhood fears but rather of one of my favorite bad B&W B-Movie, "The Killer Shrews," which had dogs wear rugs to play the giant killer shrews. The plots of these two movies are quite similar: people come to island with vicious beasts created by mad scientists. But "The Killer Shrews" has the virtue of Miss Universe 1957, Festus from "Gunsmoke," and a bunch of dogs running around with carpets on them, so it is much more enjoyable than "The Breed." So rent that instead of this one and avoid rolling your eyes or having to ugly laughter for 78 minutes.

To be fair, it is not that these people are too stupid to live ("House of Wax"), but that the dogs have been genetically engineered so that they really are smarter than the humans on this island. If for some reason all of these reviews do nothing to dissuade you and you rent this movie, I think you will be surprised at the body count (I am not saying this is a good thing or a bad thing), but if you are a fan of horror films then you will see the final shot coming from a gazillion miles away, a scene that earns a final laugh of derision. But I did give this movie two stars for several good reasons. First, it is not a snuff film, which would be a movie that earns a single star and singles that those responsible should be hunted down and disposed of in a similar manner. Second, there is something to be said for a movie like this that wants to make do with 29 dogs (and 10 handlers) rather than CGI. Third, there was a single scene I liked in the movie and got a legitimate laugh, when the two brothers are out for a drive. The tone really does not fit the rest of the movie, but as you might suspect that is not a bad thing, which the rest of this movie most decidedly happens to be.

1 out of 5 stars another movie without purpose.......2007-06-14

I would like to see a thoughtful horror movie, and i know such a thing is possible despite evidence to the contrary.. Breed is a movie that challenges its audience about as much american idol improves popular music (it does not improve music just in case you were wondering).. Breed is a recycled story line that has been used in countless horror movies and even in such popular movies as jurassic park.. Something in the wild has gone nuts due to science and now the characters must endure the challenges.. This approach can work, provided that the characters are interesting.. For me, the most interesting part of the movie was when one character shot the other in the leg with an arrow - that was about as good as it got.. To be honest i was glad to see these stupid partying college kids bight the dust.. If you like stupid horror films - this one will be right up your alley.. If you like a little more plot and a little more substance then exit stage right..

2 out of 5 stars Don't watch this movie.......2007-06-10

I was howling at the movie(sorry for the pun) in laughter. This is just really a bad movie. No scares, no real blood, no nudity. Combine that with an awful screenplay and directing and you have the worst movie I have seen this year. The acting is fair, but the characters are all unlikeable. The dogs are not scary. I don't know if they were trying to be like a really bad 80's horror, but they certainly rival any of the bad horrors from that time. Implausible ideas, unrealistic happenings, and continuity errors plague this movie. The ending is so ludicrous it defies logic and good movie making. This isn't so bad that you have to see it(ala Ed Wood movies), this is just bad.

Description

Incredible dancing and awesome music fuel STEP UP, the exhilarating and inspiring movie starring Channing Tatum (SHE'S THE MAN, COACH CARTER) who sizzles as Tyler Gage, a rough and streetwise hunk with raw talent. When Tyler finds himself doing community service at a school for the performing arts, he also finds Nora, a beautiful and privileged classically trained dancer who's searching for a temporary replacement for her injured dance partner. Spying Tyler's smooth moves, Nora decides to take a chance on him. But as they begin training, tension builds, tempers flare and the differences in their backgrounds explode — igniting this electrifying tale about not giving up on your dreams.

my daughter and i love this movie. she has watched it over and over even with the commentary! she is 14 and i am almost 40 and we both agree that it was very good. we like music and dance. and channing tatum is a good actor and good looking too!

A disturbing film about a recovering drug addict trying to regain control of her life, Sherrybaby succinctly depicts what can happen when want and desire aren't offset by control. In this bleak indie film, Sherry Swanson (Maggie Gyllenhaal, Stranger Than Fiction, Secretary) has just been released from a three-year stint in prison. Dressed in her inappropriate uniform of a halter top and oh-so-high platform heels, she goes to brother's house to see her 5-year-old daughter, Lexie (Ryan Simpkins). Sherry is determined to be a mother to her child, but without a home, job, or any other form of stability, she grows frustrated and jealous of her brother and sister-in-law's roles in Lexie's life. Tall and willowy, Gyllenhaal brings a sad desperation and simmering sexuality to the role. Sherry's middle-class childhood was a blur of sex and drugs, and she seems incapable of breaking out of that destructive trap. While the script by first-time feature film director Laurie Collyer isn't wholly original, the picture moves at a good pace, giving insight as to why Sherry's resigned to using sex to get what she wants. While the family secret doesn't come as a complete surprise, it is somewhat perplexing that no one addresses it. Ultimately, it's Gyllenhaal who makes you care about a character that most people would've given up on. --Jae-Ha Kim

3 out of 5 stars a great movie... UNTIL THE ENDING.......2007-06-06

sherrybaby is from the start until the end a great movie.. it's unfortunate that the ending destroys everything the movie worked so hard to attain.

it's about a woman (maggie gyllenhaal) who gets out of rehab and tries to get her life back on track, easier said than done because she lets her little girl stay with her brother and his wife, and they emotionally kidnap her and treat maggie gyllenhaal like far less than human because she used to use drugs. this is masterfully portrayed by the actors, particularly gyllenhaal. throughout the movie, something is accomplished which i've never seen in a movie - total cynicism about society. the srangers gyllenhaal meets are mean to her, but the meanest of all are the ones she considers her friends. one scene even shows that her own father used to molest her. this is great, dark subject matter that makes for a wonderful movie.

but then in the end... well i won't say exactly what happens but basically all the darkness is erased and you're supposed to believe gyllenhaal's character is going to be A-OK just because she has a positive attitude - the exact opposite of the rest of the movie!!!!! ridiculous and terrible.

4 out of 5 stars Simple Review.......2007-05-26

Great movie with a realistic view of a mother's struggle to regain control of her life and her daughter.

3 out of 5 stars Gritty and Dark.......2007-05-11

Maggie Gyllenhaal gives a great performance in this movie. It is truly dark and gives you some insight into the rehabilitation of a released inmate. Perhaps it will make you think. It was a side to Maggie Gyllenhaal never before seen. Don't watch it if you're depressed though... it is quite dramatic.

4 out of 5 stars Gyllenhaal shines.......2007-05-08

The Gyllenhaal siblings are proving to be strong tour de forces and both are building strong careers by going the indie route first. In Sherrybaby, Maggie proves that she's an actress who's not afraid to take risks and in this case come up a winner. To the point that no one in the supporting cast can touch her. She dominates her scenes with a realistic honesty that you can only admire. My ONLY complaint is the films pacing. When filmmakers opt to tackle dreary subject matters, I think it's important to periodically give your audience some breaks so at the end of the movie your audience isn't jonsesing for Prozac for a pick me up. Overall, it's a good character piece and a great proformance from Maggie Gyllenhaal.

3 out of 5 stars Slow and distrubing but wonderful acting.......2007-05-08

Again Maggie Gyllenhaal impresses with her acting ability. This was a very strong role in an slow movie. Not much is said other than how hard life is after getting out of jail.

This underrated teen comedy from 1998 is guilty of being a proud underachiever, and it doesn't bring anything new to the genre, but look closely and you'll find the makings of a much better movie buried under all the keg-party antics. The basic story is typical for this kind of comedy. A young, aspiring writer named Preston (Ethan Embry) has been lusting after class beauty Amanda (Jennifer Love Hewitt, from TV's <I>Party of Five</I>) for four years of high school, but he's never had the nerve to tell her. Now that they're about to graduate he's finally worked up the courage to write her a soul-baring love letter. At the raucous graduation keg party that takes up most of the movie's 98 minutes, Preston agonizes while Amanda's selfish jock ex-boyfriend tries to win her back, and delivering his love letter turns out to be more difficult than he ever imagined. What's interesting about <I>Can't Hardly Wait</I> has little to do with its attractive leads, however. The most engagingly real and entertaining characters are the misfits who show up in the subplots, including a geek (Charlie Korsmo) who turns into the life of the party, and a pair of old friends (Seth Green, Lauren Ambrose) who confront each other about their mutual needs and insecurities. There are some really good scenes between these two, and this modest movie has a few other pleasant surprises up its sleeve. That doesn't make it particularly good, but it does make it an agreeable waste of time. <I>--Jeff Shannon</I>

4 out of 5 stars Classic 90's movie.......2007-05-12

This movie is great for a laugh. Obviously not one of the most quality movies of all time, but sure to please if you're looking for something with humor.

3 out of 5 stars CAN'T HARDLY WAIT.......2007-01-09

THIS MOVIE IS GREAT, SERIOUSLY... IT'S LIKE ONE OF THE "GOOD" TEEN/YOUNG ADULT MOVIES. EVERY CHARACTER IS PLAYED WELL AND THIS MOVIE HITS CLOSE TO HOME NO MATTER WHAT KIND OF KID YOU WERE BACK IN HIGH SCHOOL. CHECK IT OUT AND NEXT TIME YOU GET A "PRETZEL" GET IT WITHOUT THE "SALT" MAN- FOR BOTH OUR SAKES.

5 out of 5 stars Teen movie that appeals to more than just teens - a favorite of mine.......2006-04-26

Some have dismissed this movie as one that delivers teen appeal, but little for anyone else. This is an assessment I disagree with. I first saw this movie when I was 27 and now in my 30s I still enjoy it. Sure, it may be a "guilty pleasure" but it's an entertaining one that delivers a delightful concoction of comedy, drama and romance combined with a good score. In fact this movie manages to deliver some timeless themes, all packaged into 100 minutes of teen excess.
It's not hard to understand why someone would have a crush on Jennifer Love Hewitt, even before she started being a regular on the phenomenally popular television show PARTY OF FIVE she had legions of fans. By time this coming-of-age movie was released in 1998, she not only had tremendous face recognition from the small screen, but also on the big screen, having just starred as the lead in the teen shocker I KNOW WHAT YOU DID LAST SUMMER.
Of course there's also the fact that she was one of the most attractive of all the teen actresses at that time.
So, perhaps she was the perfect actress to play the part of the one girl in school that every man wants to be with, and the particular attention of a schoolboy crush in CAN'T HARDLY WAIT. Although she does not share as much screen time as lead Ethan Embry, her presence is felt nearly every scene in the movie.
So, what's the movie about? It's the end of school and there's a party in town to celebrate - and everyone's going to be there. Destined to leave for a workshop with his idol Kurt Vonnegut the next day, Preston Meyers (Embry) sees this as the last chance to let his dream girl Amanda Beckett (Hewitt) know how he feels. Rumors abound around the school that her jock boyfriend has broken up with her and he sees this as a chance to finally deliver a love letter he has been working on since he first saw her years earlier.
But fate works in mysterious ways.
A young Seth Green (he had yet to achieve fame on BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER) sees this party as an opportunity for quite another reason - namely to get laid and he and he has a whole bag of stuff with him to ensure that everything goes smoothly - which of course it doesn't.
Geek William Lichter (Charlie Korsmo) sees the party as an opportunity to wreak revenge on a class bully that has been torturing him for years and in fact it is Korsmo's character and Green's character that offer most of the comedic interludes. While Embry is waxing poetic about his four year obsession with Hewitt, Green is getting locked in a bathroom with a girl and Korsmo is learning a new side to the bully.
Yes, there are several subplots going on in this movie, but the humor is infectious and the characters are both well rounded and engaging. A word of warning though, for some reason I found myself listening to the commentary before watching the ending of the movie, and in fact the ending is spoiled early on in the commentary.
Which brings us neatly on to the scene specific commentary. It's light and fun and delivers a number of interesting anecdotes.
An easy recommendation for anyone's DVD collection.

5 out of 5 stars You'd be so nice to come home to.......2006-03-21

I've seen people write "not for over 30 age types." Well I'm pushing 30 and I disagree. Rogert Ebert, for the record, also disagrees. He (and I) recognized a nice mesh of story, comedy, editing, score, and acting. The movie combines rapid-quick hillarious scenes (props to the editors and screenwriters) with the usual sarcastic, cynical view of "those" days. But a nice balance a la Breakfast Club not the pissed off teen movies of today. The movie does not hit any snags, which is welcome if you think about how one awkward drawn-out scene can ruin the flow of this type of flick. A side note: I remember watching it as an angst-ridden teen and ready to wail on it after the show with my three nerdy friends; we couldn't do it! And no it wasn't the hots for Jennifer Love Hewitt.
My point is that we can get three things out of this movie at the same time and still chow on popcorn and beer:
a)entertainment and laughs; b) an enjoyable "quickie", for when three hours of hobbits is too much; c) a subliminal look into how much a blah story can be jazzed through snappy editing, dialogue, and sharp acting... oh yeah, and nostaligia if you drink enough! A worthy addition to any DVD collection for those moments and those moments happen quite a bit for us between 25 and 35!

5 out of 5 stars Can't hardly stop watching!.......2006-02-03

Out of all the teen comedies this is one, along with 10 Things I Hate About You, that stands out to me as worth watching. I mean, anything with Seth Green is bound to be funny, but in this film he's just histarical. The film revolves around Preston (Ethan Embrey) as he attends a party to give Amanda (Love-Hewitt) a letter explaining his long time love for her. His best friend Denise (Ambrose) is tagging along for moral support but she can't help but shedding her opinion on the matter, which is that Preston is crazy. You see Amanda just broke up with Mike Dexter the school jock and well, you get the drift. But Mike has problems of his own. A group of high-school nerds headed by William Lichter (Charlie Korsmo) have decided to crash the party with a plan to ruin Mike's life. Then we have Kenny "Special K" Fisher (Seth Green), the wigger/white boy gangsta who has come to the party equipped to get laid and will stop at nothing for sex. The cast is hilarious and really do well portraying the high-school scene. There are plenty of laughs including some unmentioned actors like Williams nerd friends playing Star Wars on the roof and some kids trying to teach a foreign exchange student some 'proper' english. The whole concept of the film may be cheesy and overdone but the script is tight and the laughs are plenty so it more than makes up for the genericy. Love-Hewitt is not a favorite of mine but Green and Ambrose are hilarious as is the nerdy Korsmo. Watch this film for what it is and laugh your @$$ off while doing so.

It's no surprise that <I>The Hot Chick</I> is stupid; what's remarkable is the <I>ambition</I> of its stupidity. After a hokey, <I>Mummy</I>-like prologue to establish the body-switching spell cast by an ancient pair of Abyssinian earrings, the low-concept lunacy begins when those earrings are divided, eons later, between a cruel-minded high school campus queen (Rachel McAdams) and a small-time crook (Rob Schneider), who switch bodies (externally he's the hot chick, and she's the vulgar sleazeball) and must cope with the consequences of their sudden gender crisis. This tired idea may seem fresh and funny to eight-year-olds and morons, but Schneider and first-time director Tom Brady (who wrote Schneider's <I>The Animal</I>) fail to fulfill the potential of their ripe comedic premise. McAdams plays a guy better than Schneider plays a girl (which explains her limited screen time), and the expected jokes (mostly involving urinals and awkward prom dates) are sluggishly uninspired. In a cameo role as a dreadlocked stoner, coproducer Adam Sandler offers only brief comedic respite. <I>--Jeff Shannon</I>

Description

The hilarious Rob Schneider has been a gigolo. He's been an animal. And now a curse will make him something he's never been before -- a woman! Jessica Spencer is the hottest, most popular girl in high school. But she gets a big dose of reality when she wakes up in the body of a 30-something-year-old lowlife male (Schneider) and quickly discovers that trading on your looks isn't so easy when you're a girl who constantly needs a shave. How in the world can Jessica convince her friends (Anna Faris, SCARY MOVIE, SCARY MOVIE 2; Matthew Lawrence, MRS. DOUBTFIRE; Eric Christian Olsen, NOT ANOTHER TEEN MOVIE) it really is her? And how can she change herself back into a teenage girl? THE HOT CHICK is a wild and wacky gender-bending comedy everyone can enjoy -- no matter what sex you are.

5 out of 5 stars Shakespeare's Twelfth Night.......2007-03-30

A brilliant updating of Shakespeare's play Twelfth Night. Almost every possible combination of what it means to be a man or a woman is explored. And the ulitmate question of the movie: how do you know if it is love? Is put to the test by numerous situations. Of course, even if it is true love, are there limits to what a person is willing to do for the one they love?

5 out of 5 stars Is Rob Schneider Funny? Yes, he's very very funny.......2007-02-26

Rob Schneider and his sense of the absurd really resonate
with me.. some people might not find him funny or find
his comedy to be somewhat degrading... to me... this just
makes him that much funnier!!!

4 out of 5 stars Hot and Funny!.......2007-02-06

It all starts when Jessica, a pretty popular girl, steals some earrings from a shop! From that it sounds pretty boring right! But as if it is! Its awesome! Jessica accidentally loses one of the earrings at a petrol station that is being robbed! The thief finds the earrings and takes it home with in! Jessica falls asleep with one of the earrings in and so does the thief and they both wake up in the morning with each others body! Can u imagine a grotty old thief in the body of a young pretty girl! makes you feels sorry for Jessica but it ain't a sloppy film! The only way for her to turn back is to get the earring back before the full moon but can she do it with out losing her boyfriend! well you'll have to buy it to find out!

An hilarious movie that you will want to watch over and over again!

5 out of 5 stars Brilliant.......2006-10-21

I tuned in to this movie thinking it would just be another half-funny slapstick movie, but how wrong could I be? This is one of the funniest movies I have seen. Even sitting here alone I was laughing uncontrollably. Rob Schneider was great but so were all the other characters. The humour was very clever and very well delivered. I'm adding this one to my collection.

3 out of 5 stars Bloodrayne (Unrated Director's Cut)(DVD ROM game is included).......2007-05-13

This movie is not for the avid Blood Rayn game playing fan this movie has nothing to do as far as plot and story line goes considering the vidio game, However this peticular Eddition comes with the sequal computer Game to the first Blood Rayn Vidio Game and the Game Rates 5 Stars if you can deal with haveing to remember all the key command or buying the game play computer Controller. the game has excellent graphics. If you however have not plade the game then prepair yourself for good acting and greate Leading Charicter with all the Gore you can handle but what it has in gore it lacks in plot.

1 out of 5 stars eeek!.......2007-05-07

What a joke. I guess few of the "stars" decided over a dubie to make this movie. And probably filmed it during the weekend. Hilarious action scenes. Oh, they also used tons of make up just for the sake of gore. Skip it and save your money.

1 out of 5 stars Horrid.......2007-04-16

Ok, quickly and without hesitation, click the `Back' button on your web browser as many times as it takes to get completely get away from seeing anything that has to do with this movie.

If you didn't heed my advice above, then you are obviously into watching train wrecks, ten car pileups and little kids frying ants with their magnifying glass. In other words, you're a cinematic sadist. If you've already seen this movie, then you've probably lost some self esteem. If you plan on seeing it after you read this review...you're just a masochist.

Bloodrayne is horrible. Beyond horrible. Ben Kingsley has made some bad career choices in his day but this one takes the cake. Michael Madsen, who used to be considered respectable if not great, is heading down the career failing slope faster than a California mudslide after a monsoon. Michelle Rodriguez, who has openly stated she wants to be a gypsy actress, a free spirit, is the most unscathed simply because you're going to limit yourself with that kind of career decision. That doesn't get her off the hook for this travesty. I can't imagine anyone as rebellious as her standing quietly while this heap of crud was being dumped around her like garbage at a landfill. And then there's Kristana Loken...well, you get to see her nude. That's about the highlight of her role. And what the hell is Meatloaf doing in this movie...and credited by his FULL name?! He picked this atrocity to decide he wants to be credited with TWO names instead of ONE? HUH?!

Everyone else is unknown, which surprisingly doesn't leave many roles left for the unknowns. It was amazing how they amassed this group of named actors for something so horribly bad. It's not just the actors, it's the dialogue, the F/X and the even the plot...which escapes me for the moment. I guess I'm trying to remove this movie from my memory. So do yourself a favor and stay away, stay far, far away. Trust me, it's for your own good.

3 out of 5 stars Just as well they included the game.......2007-04-13

So many bad reviews and so much adverse comment as to the skills of Uwe Boll, was it deserved ? I'm afraid the answer is largely yes, this film is patchy in the extreme, truly laden with clichés and in common with most game derived movies seems to have been written by somebody with only a passing knowledge of the game. Which is pretty silly as BloodRayne the game doesn't exactly have the most complex plot ever seen. For example in the game Rayne a Dhampir is searching for her father, the setting is Europe in the nineteen thirties, she is located and hired by the Brimstone society and then goes on a series of missions recovering three artefacts from the Thule Society.
For reasons that remain unexplained the film decided to run as a prequel and being scripted as a predictable cliché is set in that mythical eastern Europe beloved of Hammer and all the old Dracula movies. There Rayne is looking for her father and is found and trained by the Brimstone society, presumably they mutually forget each other and the later game setting meeting is an amnesiacs reunion. In common with the game Rayne searches for the artefacts of Beliar, though these would appear to be somewhat different to the game versions she searches out later, presumably some kind of generic naming system for supernatural items. If you're going to do a prequel at least make it imaginative, why swipe bits from the game and take them out of context? It's lazy means nothing to non gamers and will only irritate the game fans who are the core audience. Rayne acquires two artefacts and we are told becomes incredibly powerful, though the special effects budget clearly doesn't run to anything that could demonstrate this. She then gets to enter her fathers castle and kill him, another sign of memory loss perhaps as having exterminated dear old dad, one wonders why she spends the next century or so looking for him, or how he crops up in the game BloodRayne 2. Still not to get bogged down in details, lets look at the film as it stands. As I've already said it's clichéd, oldie worldie eastern European settings and a plot that creaks. A massive and pointless overdose of dismemberment, luridly blood splattered and all very badly done, poorly choreographed and filmed fight scenes, the list goes on. Then we look at the actors, Madsen and Rodriguez are fine in their comfort zone as urban Americans with attitude, take them out of the zone and their limitations are painfully obvious, they just do not fit into this scenario and utter some of the most painfully stilted lines ever committed to film. Kristanna Locken isn't the worlds greatest actor, but at least she tries, which is more than can be said for the Oscar winning Sir Ben Ghandi Kingsley who's performance is so wooden it's teak like, a man who is clearly hating every moment of the shoot, has no idea why he signed the contract and wants everybody to know what a bad time he's having. Instead of dark and brooding, his head vampire just comes over as constipated. It's not a good movie, but given time may acquire a bit of cult cachet as one of those bad movies you need to see.
And yet despite all this I'm not spitting blood at money wasted and that's because the set includes a DVD copy of BloodRayne 2 the game and to be honest that's what I was after in the first place. I think packing the two together is a good idea and one that other game film teams should consider taking up.

2 out of 5 stars Not what I expected...........2007-04-10

I was very disappointed with this movie and it was horribly done. I understand that it is difficult to make a movie based off of a video game and that this movie wasn't widely released but still... it could have been a lot better. The movie had a great cast but unfortunately that wasnt' enough to save it. The action sequences looked staged, wooden in appearance so there wasn't any believability. The acting was overdone and over the top in some scenes and combined with bad accents it just gave the whole movie a cheesy feeling. I am a fan of the video game and a fan of movies but this one just sucked. I felt like I was watching a really bad made for t.v. movie.
