Book Description
Over the last decade researchers and practitioners have developed a wide range of knowledge related to e-learning. This book provides state-of-the-art e-learning networked environments and architectures carried out over the last few years from a knowledge management perspective.
The book is organized into four parts: After an introductory chapter which attempts to characterize the e-learning environments, Part I exposes the problems of building knowledge scenarios followed by Part II which analyzes the process of building knowledge environments. Part III summarizes the principles, methods and issues related to the design of knowledge networks and finally Part IV addresses the problem of retrieving resources and knowledge from networked environments.
Presenting a wide-ranging survey of methods and applications from contributors from around the world, this book will be a valuable resource for researchers, practitioners and graduates.
Customer Reviews:
for lifelong learning.......2007-06-11
The book is a summary of lessons learnt about ways to implement electronic learning over recent decades. Unsurprisingly, given Moore's Law about computer chips, there is an emphasis on events after about 1990. As computers and networks became ever more affordable.
One idea is that students should aspire to be independent, lifelong learners. That the traditional classroom based environment of primary, secondary and tertiary learning is not enough. Hence a person might find later that she needs to sit down and self-motivate to learn via a computer.
Various electronic teaching systems are surveyed. Some examples of ontologies are presented, with XML code snippets. User interface issues are also explained. Letting the student easily navigate between the many pages of a topic she is learning. The reader cannot fail to notice the browser metaphor across much of the text's examples. The familiarity with a browser can now be considered axiomatic across much of the population.
