"Don't search for all the answers at once," says a giant appearing to FBI Agent Cooper (Kyle MacLachlan) in a vision. "A path is formed by laying one stone at a time." In Twin Peaks, that's easier said than done. Over the course of two seasons, that path went nowhere and everywhere. "Bureau guidelines, deductive technique, Tibetan method, and luck" don't cut it here. It also takes a little magic, which is what makes David Lynch and Mark Frost's bracingly original serial drama one of TV's ultimate trips, and still the stuff that fever dreams are made of. With the DVD release of season 2, die-hard Peakers can rekindle their obsession with this macabre, maddening, sinister, and surreal series set in the rural Pacific Northwest community whose bucolic surroundings hide "things dark and heinous." (If you're new to Twin Peaks, best to get the lay of the land by watching the brilliant feature-length pilot and the instant-cult-classic first season, which capture Twin at its peak. Neither is widely available on DVD, however.) Three main mysteries drive season 2. First, there's the still (!) unresolved murder of Laura Palmer (Sheryl Lee). Then, there's the question of who shot Cooper in the season 1 cliffhanger. And finally, ultimately: What about Bob? With its dream logic, bizarre behavior, and nightmare imagery, much of what transpires goes right by you. Some subplots (Sherilyn Fenn's sexpot Audrey held captive at the bordello, One-Eyed Jacks) are easier to latch on to than others (amnesiac Nadine believes she's an 18-year-old high schooler) And, yes, that's a pre-X-Files David Duchovny as Dennis/Denice, a transsexual DEA agent.
In Twin Peaks' second season, the truth is out there, but we are entering A Few Good Men territory. When Laura's killer is at last revealed in episode 16, no doubt many will not be able to handle the truth. The teases, red herrings, and out-and-out gonzo looniness will try the patience of viewers with a more conventional bent. But, as Cooper observes at one point, "All in all, [it's] a very interesting experience," with enough doppelgangers, allusions, pop-culture references, and in-jokes to keep bloggers buzzing. If, for example, you get any pleasure from recognizing Hank Worden, who played Mose in The Searchers, as "the world's most decrepit room service waiter," then Twin Peaks may just make you feel right at home. --Donald Liebenson

Those were the days, my friend..........2007-06-18
Do you remember the days, when it was on the air and you can spot the T-shirts with "I don't know who killed Laura Palmer, but I know who'll kill David Lynch!"
In this movie evrything is of the highest quality - plot, direction, actors, music, picture. And it is a strong temptation to watch it over and over again. And you will not be able to resist.
Too bad they are not making such quality products anymore.
Get the first season from amazon.co.uk, the second from amazon.com and enjoy the full set, including pilot. Well worth buying!

Twin Peaks Season 2.......2007-06-08
This is one of the best shows of all time and things really start coming together in the 2nd Season. I had the complete series on VHS but the quality was not very good. It is a world of difference watching it on DVD. I highly recommend this product and would encourage viewers to watch the complete series from start to finish including the Pilot and of course, Fire Walk With Me!!
Best TV show ever made!!!.......2007-05-30
This collection is really incredible and the quality is perfect.
I suggest it to anyone who likes mystery and dark humor.
David Lynch genius is contained all here.

Product Description
The Beauty and the Beast TV show was a fantasy series about a man-beast (Vincent) and his love for a beautiful assistant district attorney (Catherine Chandler). Vincent lived in an underground world beneath New York City where his gruesome looks were less important to his peers than were his caring and benevolent personality. Together, Vincent and Catherine had many adventures both above and below ground level and their love for each other continued to grow.
Customer Reviews:
Ya Know What's Irritating?.......2007-06-16
To keep the trend going, i'll rate five stars BUT ... isn't it irritating how Amazon doesn't list the main characters after the title at the top? I hadda think for a second who Jay Acovone was ....
Of romance, adventure and love eternal.......2007-05-19
This is one of the best TV series ever! It has all the ingredients that make a classic - well-plotted storylines, a cast of interesting characters, and above all, an otherworldly romance between the gentle, noble Vincent, and the luminously beautiful Catherine. In each scene where they come together, you cannot help but be mesmerised by the tremendous depth of emotion and feeling that is seen on their faces, their body language, and their dialogue. These two share an on-screen chemistry that is quite rare even till today. Linda Hamilton plays her role with a measure of beauty, courage and conviction that is utterly convincing. Ron Perlman's Vincent is the gentle beast, who is kind and loving to his friends and the needy and brutally vicious to the scum of society. His love for Catherine is so poetic, yet even when these two yearning souls are exchanging romantic dialogue or reading from books under the moonlight, they appear convincing and their love for each other rings true. I know I'm gushing here but it is this compelling love story that makes the show what it is, and although each episode has its share of thrills, it is Vincent's & Catherine's unerring love for each other that compels us to view the show. I can't wait for the DVD release.
Special features please!.......2007-05-04
I love beauty and the beast. Hopefully the second season will include at least some special features. I'm sure any fan would faint if there were any episode commentaries from Linda Hamilton and Ron Pearlman. I know I probably would. Also what happened to the lost love letters that were included on the VHS versions. Hopefully we'll be able to see them on a future release.
There are simply not enough stars in all the universe........2007-04-06
It stands to reason that, since you are reading this in the Season Two section, you are already well aware of the epic majesty and absolute Love that are Vincent and Catherine. Words are beyond insufficient in describing this series for those who remain mournfully ignorant, but if it will intrigue new viewers, it is definitely worth the effort.
In short, "Beauty and the Beast" is Poetry in sight, sound and emotion. This is the one series that will forever be known as the impossibly beautiful, heart-wrenching, and all-consuming dream that changed everyone who understood its message. I truly pity those who refused to do so, even if it was in part due to them that such a brilliant masterpiece was cancelled so quickly.
Now to the topic at hand: Season Two, the most beloved of many a fan. Personally, I disagree. Every single episode captured my imagination and left me aching for more, even in the most violent and tragic moments. I simply love them all, so much so that I own a boot-leg "all season" set (rest assured that I have bought the official versions and will continue to do so). However, I will admit to having something very close to a "favorite," and it happens to reside in this season, so... take from that what you will.
"Brothers," in my opinion, encapsulates the very spirit of a very difficult to define series, and it has dear Charles. When he and Vincent talk about the misleading effects of appearances, giving Charles the courage to remove his bag-like mask... I literally wept from sheer joy. While it is true that the man will never be an Adonis by "normal" standards because of the disfigurement from his disease, he could power an entire hemisphere indefinitely with that smile. Seeing him come to terms with his differences, with the support of his newfound friends, and gain the courage to face the World Above for the sake of his eternally restless "brother" Devon left me deeply moved. Such is the incandescence of all Vincent, Catherine, and their world have been trying to share with us for the last two decades. I can only pray that more will listen in time.
Like the rest of the hopelessly addicted followers, I eagerly await this release, when I might add the in-store version to my Amazon pre-order as I have with Season One. Will the extremely controversial Season Three have the same luck? I sincerely hope so.
A True Work of Art (II).......2007-04-04
Although long rumoured to have had only women devotees, in fact BEAUTY AND THE BEAST remains to this day my own favourite American television serial as well. It debuted in 1987, during perhaps the most EXTERNALLY oppressive period in my wife's and my entire marriage. Feeling alienated from so much around us, we drew deeper into our already close relationship and spent countless hours together reading aloud, listening to good music, and drinking MANY pots of tea. So this programme about a couple estranged from the 'normal' world -- whose love, nigh-mystical understanding of one another, and taste for simple joys were so like our own -- was deeply encouraging. Then too, its many literary allusions actually advanced our own interest in classic literature. I credit the scripts with our appreciation of everything from Shakespeare's 29th sonnet to Rilke's LETTERS TO A YOUNG POET to THE VELVETEEN RABBIT.
Of course, the show was not flawless. Its earliest episodes suffered from excessive Beast-to-the-rescue plotlines; and after Linda Hamilton's departure, the truncated third and final season was seriously marred by a misguided decision to escalate action and violence, presumably in hope of better ratings. The serial's middle run was by far its best, focusing on Vincent and Catherine's deeply-romantic yet functionally-platonic relationship, the intriguing history of the tunnel community, and the mysterious wonders and perils of the vast realms even further Below. Yet, whatever its strengths and weaknesses, that the programme came to be at all was a blessing beyond hope in a medium so often glutted with mere ugliness and inanity. BEAUTY AND THE BEAST was that rarest of television phenomena: A true work of art.

"Once upon a time... in the city of New York." So begins this unique fantasy-crime series. Catherine (Emmy nominee Linda Hamilton, The Terminator) is an assistant DA who's attacked one night by strangers. When she wakes up, her face is covered in bandages. Someone named Vincent (Golden Globe winner Ron Perlman) has been taking care of her in his home beneath the subway. When she removes the dressing, she finds that he's a man-beast, but fear turns to trust when she becomes convinced he has her best interests at heart. As she states in the introduction, "We have a bond stronger than friendship or love." As the season unfolds, Vincent frequently comes to Catherine's assistance. As an empath, he knows instinctively when she's in trouble. When he needs help, Vincent turns to Father (Roy Dotrice), the doctor who raised him after he was abandoned at the hospital after he was born. His origins are unknown. Together, Catherine and Vincent are like the detectives of Remington Steele, except no one knows she's part of a team, since they're only able to meet in secret. Vincent's underground companions, however, get to know Catherine well. Just as Vincent comes to her aid as needed, she does the same for his community.
Although Beauty and the Beast has little in common with the Jean Cocteau film or Disney animated picture, the appeal is similar. Cynics may find these do-gooders sentimental, especially when Catherine utters lines like, "And although we cannot be together, we will never, ever be apart." But romantics made the CBS drama successful--at least until Hamilton left in the second year--and launched the Emmy-nominated Perlman into cult favorites like The City of Lost Children. Oscar winner Rick Baker (An American Werewolf in London) also deserves credit for his convincing make-up effects. --Kathleen C. Fennessy

Customer Reviews:
My all time favorite television program.......2007-06-12
Beauty and the Beast Season One has finally been released on DVD, and it is thrilling for me to revisit this jewel of entertainment. From its premiere (which I only saw because I was waiting to watch the season premiere of Dallas), I have been a devoted fan. Enchanting in every way, BATB embraced the essence of romance with its quality acting, writing, music and the depth of each character, especially its starring roles of Vincent and Catherine. There will just never be another tv romantic hero like Vincent. He was intelligent, warm, caring, strong, educated, kind to children but fiercely protective of his Catherine and those whom he considered family. The plots in the first two seasons possessed good story lines, but my favorite episodes were those that highlighted the impossible relationship of Vincent and Catherine. Its timelessness is so well demonstrated by its 20th anniversary and the good production of the DVD set. And now, 20 years later, it is thrilling for me to share BATB with my children who are fascinated by the story of the underground tunnels and those who live in secret places and of course, the love story of Vincent and Catherine, set to gorgeous music and wonderful poetry. For thy sweet love remembered, such wealth brings!
Finally!.......2007-06-08
I missed this show! It brought back many Friday night memories. the whole family loves it with enough action, intrigue & romance for everyone.
Beauty and the Beast - First Season.......2007-06-08
I am truly enjoying this show. I watched it many years ago but never saw the first episodes only the ones at the end. It is very romantic and different from today's programs. I just watch a couple of episodes every day or two and I always wait until I'm sure no one will call me and then I just sit back and enjoy!
Great Buy!.......2007-06-05
I loved this show when I was a kid (was 8 when it first aired) - and I still love it now! Granted, I understand a LOT more of what's going on now. If you can get past the 80's/90's fashion, the big hair styles, and slightly cheesy music (think about when it was first created), it really is a fabulous series! I absolutely love Ron Perlman in this! I couldn't stop watching it (finished the season in about a week), and now I'm impatiently waiting for the 2nd season to be released! Too bad this show didn't have a longer run!
beauty and the beast complete first season.......2007-05-31
this series on dvd is a dream come true for me. i loved the series when it was on tv and always looked for the reuns to air. but they never were. you know how sometimes you see a show that is as old as beauty and the beast again and you watch it and it doesn't seem believable. But this series is very well mastered, you can get lost in the episodes for hours. I love it. i hope that they will offer the whole complete series of beauty and the beast. Or why not make a continuation?

When local wag Jackie O'Shea (Ian Bannen) discovers that one of his neighbors in the village of Tulaigh Mohr is a lottery winner he sees a chance to share in the wealth. Things get complicated when Jackie and his pal Michael O'Sullivan (David Kelly) discover that the winner, Ned Devine, died of shock at the very moment he learned of becoming a millionaire. Undaunted, Jackie and Michael dispose of the lucky stiff and hatch a plot to impersonate him and claim the prize. Soon the whole village is involved and the plot rapidly thickens.
This film has been compared to The Full Monty, but it lacks the vein of desperation that added depth to that film. Instead, Waking Ned Devine is closer in tone to classic British comedies like Whisky Galore!, with its cast of eccentrics gleefully conspiring to outwit the authorities. Those with a low tolerance for twinkly eyed Irish charm might be tempted to steer clear, although the movie is saved, for the most part, by its central performances. Bannen is superb as an old man who is clearly hungry for any excitement he can drum up and David Kelly is remarkable as his scrawny sidekick. Kelly has had a long career as a character actor in film and television, but here he has a chance to really let loose. His naked motorcycle ride is a marvelous set piece and in all of his other scenes his twitchy, perfectly timed performance quite simply steals the movie. --Simon Leake
Description
When Ned Devine dies from shock after winning the lottery, two longtime friends, Micheal and Jackie, discover the body and agree Ned would want them to benefit from his good luck. They embark upon an outrageous scheme to claim the ticket but first they have to get all the townsfolk to go along with their plan!

Great Movie!.......2007-06-08
"Charming" Irish movie with very good acting and beautiful imagery. Clever concept and entertaining from beginning to end. Seems to give an accurate portrayal of small-town Irish living. I loved the actors! The music is wonderful too.
Masterful.......2007-04-26
If you ever wanted to visit a small one street village in Ireland and get a peek into the characters that live there, this is the movie for you. If you have ever lived in Ireland and miss home, than this is the movie for you!!!!
refreshung, very funny.......2007-03-19
We seldom, if ever, go to the movies any more. Not willing to pay so much for so much garbage. We are older and Irish so we appreciate the personalities and the humor of this movie. Also just loved the scenery. Having been to Ireland many years ago, it brought back memories of the beautiful countryside, the simplicity of life there etc. Our son had seen the movie and recommended it.
A favorite.......2007-03-15
This is one of my favorite films of all time. I saw it three times at the theatre and once on a plane before I bought it. Great music, characters, and story. This film is great for all ages.
One-note plot.......2007-03-13
In looking for movies similar to "Saving Grace" (very funny, full of interesting characters and an unusual plot), Waking Ned Devine sounded comparable. I was disappointed. Although some of the actors are wonderful (especially Maggie and the pig farmer and David Kelly, as Michael O'Sullivan), their characters are more caricatures and not interesting for adults (more appropriate for kids). The plot was known from the start - so no surprises there. The scenery was beautiful.

Product Description
Babylon 5: The Legend of the Rangers is a two-hour television movie created by J. Michael Straczynski (original creator of the Babylon 5 series) for the Sci-Fi Channel. The telefilm takes place in 2264 after the wars are over and a new age of space exploration has begun. The Interstellar Alliance has been organized to establish and maintain peace among its member worlds, including Earth. The Rangers are an elite military force made up of hand-picked young, smart, dedicated human and alien members who combine the high-tech elements of space travel with the idealism and honor of the knights of old. They encounter a previously unknown alien race whose lethal power is far greater than any force previously known to Earth or any other world in the Interstellar Alliance.

Babylon 5: The Legend of the Rangers is a two-hour television movie created by J. Michael Straczynski (original creator of the Babylon 5 series) for the Sci-Fi Channel. The telefilm takes place in 2264 after the wars are over and a new age of space exploration has begun. Science-fiction fans are notoriously hard to please, and few have anything good to say about The Legend of the Rangers, produced in 2002 to introduce a spinoff of the popular Babylon 5 TV series. The naysayers have a point. Few elements of this 90-minute pilot, subtitled "To Live and Die in Starlight," will likely be memorialized among the genre's golden moments; the dialogue is often clunky and on-the-nose, the acting is less than stellar, and the effects work, while pretty good, doesn't live up to the standard set by Stargate, Farscape, and others. Nevertheless, there's a reasonably compelling story here, involving the elite Rangers (made up of humans and aliens alike, including the Minbari, who sport "head bones" instead of hair and whose cute little ears are placed on the sides of their necks) and the threat posed to the universe by a mysterious new foe known as "the Hand" (these are some seriously bad dudes, a race that has lain dormant for many years but is now back with a vengeance). Front and center is human Ranger David Martell (played by Dylan Neal). Court-martialed for choosing to save his crew rather then lead them to certain death (in violation of a code mandating that "we do not retreat, whatever the reason"), he's put in command of the Liandra, a ship that's not only funkier than Han Solo's Millennium Falcon but haunted to boot. Of course, as events play out, Martell and his pals end up as the last line of defense against the Hand, not only pitted against these implacable enemies but also dealing with a traitor among the good guys. The themes (honor vs. expediency, dark forces arrayed against peace-seekers, human impetuousness tangling with ancient alien wisdom) are familiar, and the outcome is far from unpredictable. Still, there are a lot less entertaining ways to spend 90 minutes than with Babylon 5: The Legend of the Rangers. --Sam Graham
Customer Reviews:
Good Movie.......2007-06-09
This is a good movie because it allows us to see the G'Kar character progress into a later time after the Babylon 5 series. It is not clear exactly what year this takes place, but I think it is after the Drakh plague is cured from the Crusade series, so I would say it would have to be about 2270. I think it was supposed to start a series about the Rangers whose entire story was never told. The DVD is as cheap as they come. It has absolutely no extras. It has no commentary. I think they could have done a better job on the DVD.
Disappointing.......2007-06-05
It does not hold true to the quality we (B5 fans) expect from Babylon 5. G'Kar's dialogue, rather than capturing the depth and likeability of his character, seems artificial, forced, and lame. He has been turned into a comic relief character, and made to spew trite one-liners that G'Kar on Babylon 5 would never have said. I remember him saying something similar to, "Love to stay. Can't. Have to go. Kiss kiss, bye bye." That, and other scenes (like one in which the weapons girl destroys a mine field by screaming and flailing her limbs around in some kind of impractical, immersive, interactive targeting room) make me feel embarrassed for the movie and the franchise, rather than proud of it.
Don't get me wrong, I'm a hard-core B5 fan, and you can bet that I've already pre-ordered The Lost Tales. But this particular piece of the B5 world is very disappointing, and I don't recommend it for anyone, B5 fans or otherwise.
I had no idea that Rangers cursed so much..........2007-06-05
The Legend of the Rangers was quite a disappointment considering how much hope there was for another successful Babylon 5 series, though by no means is it a terrible movie.
The year is 2264 and a young Ranger captain with discipline problems (God knows why that was necessary) is assigned command of a 20-year-old derelict ship (!), the Liandra, and ordered to escort a Valen-class ship carrying a number of Interstellar Alliance dignitaries, to a secret location. When the two ships are ambushed by three unidentified craft, the Rangers realize that another great evil is brewing; one that could overshadow the Shadows themselves...
The major setbacks are in relation to:
1) Captain David Martell who is too young, too arrogant, and too obnoxious to be likable. Moreover he lies (!), he curses (!), he cannot control his anger (!), and he bets money in the midst of a crisis! Am I missing something here? It seems he is anything but a Ranger, let alone a Ranger captain!
Tannier was way more acceptable/appropriate as a Ranger and as a captain than Martell, and he proved it beyond any doubt. In addition, Dulann should have been Captain hands down while Martell should have been washing dishes or mopping the floor/deck.
2) In the plot in which they (his superiors and the Grey Council) made an issue of Martell's leaving the battle when he had no weapons to fight with was simply absurd.
3) The enemy ships' tactics were moronic: The 2 enemy ships decided to leave the scene without finishing the job confident that the third one was more than enough. Why??? And why the hurry anyway?
Moreover, the second sophisticated enemy ship did not check for life signs (!) or explosives (!) and took the bait... after that the third sophisticated enemy ship did scan for life signs, but not for explosives such as grenades! Give us a break!
4) Have the Rangers been reduced to the point that there are no White Stars left and top dignitaries travel on "space bricks" escorted by 20-year-old junk, and all that without explanation? The Valen was pathetic as far as ships go, while the Liandra was worse yet, and the Intestellar Alliance's top diplomats/representatives had to endure travel on these ships. The year is 2264, so it's less than two years since Sheridan and Delenn left Babylon 5 for Minbar. What in Valen's name happened???
5) The alien crewmembers, except the Drazi, were rather interesting and quite promising, but the humans were just bad.
Tirk, the Drazi, looks like the big orange fella from Marvel Comics' Fantastic Four. Kit did not even look Japanese, the guy with the disguises belonged on a different show, not B5, while the girl/gunner was just sad...
6) As much as Andreas Katsulas/G'kar tried, Dylan Neal was definitely a poor choice at best for Captain Martell.
7) With so much as stake, they could have had Delenn or Sheridan (or even Vir or Lochley) along with G'kar.
Overall, the story/plot is a good one (with the haunting being an attention-grabbing twist), the special effects are naturally better (technology has progressed), the dialogues were way below average (those responsible should be subjected to corporal punishment), the music was all right (though nothing compared to past scores), while the acting needs a lot of work as the cast carry out their performances rather poorly (one can tell that they are a bit uneasy), however, that is the usually case with most series in the beginning. In short, The Legend of the Rangers is missing that B5 feel, and that pretty much says it all. Please bring back Babylon 5! You owe it to the fans!
The Rangers. Possibilities........2007-05-27
This was a new approach to build on the origional series, and over-all was enjoyable. I liked the hard decisions that had to made by the main character to survive, and the martial arts training scenes. Effects as always were great and the plot was good. I found the aspect of the gunner girl weaving around blasting and yelling in the firing chamber some-what beyond the way this advancement in technology could have been handled, but if that was my only criticism, then it was enjoyable viewing. Could have been expanded to some sort of mini-series perhaps? The option as always was there. No problem adding this to my B5 collection. Give it a go!
Get Ready for Babylon 5: The Lost Tales.......2007-05-16
Like Crusade, Legend of the Rangers was another unsuccessful attempt to jumpstart the stalled B5 franchise. The production values on Legend were higher than those on Crusade, and this time, instead of being leftovers from the Shadow War, the villains were some kind of super-Shadow called "the Hand" which was supposedly even more ancient and powerful than the Shadows, the Vorlons, or any of the other Old Ones. I guess Lorien just neglected to mention them. Zog! One of the main strengths of B5 was continuity and the Hand was the biggest continuity violation in the B5 universe, not the greatest basis for a new series. I suppose that if the series had caught on, JMS would have eventually revealed that the Hand was all a lie made up by the Drakh. ZOG!!!

Filmed before (and quite nicely) in 1949, Frances Hodgson Burnett's classic children's story was remade for this admirable 1993 release, executive produced by Francis Ford Coppola and directed by acclaimed Polish filmmaker Agnieszka Holland. Splendidly adapted by Edward Scissorhands screenwriter Caroline Thompson, the film opens in India during the early 1900s, when young Mary Lennox (Kate Maberly) is orphaned and sent to England to live in Misselthwaite Manor, the gloomy estate of her brooding and melancholy uncle, Lord Craven (John Lynch). Because the uncle is almost always away on travels, struggling to forget the death of his beloved wife, Mary is left mostly alone to explore the estate. Eventually she befriends the young brother of a staff maid and Lord Craven's apparently crippled son, who has been needlessly bedridden for years. Together the three children restore a neglected garden on the estate grounds, and in doing so they set the stage for a moving reaffirmation of life and love. Filmed with graceful style and careful attention to the intelligence and cleverness of young children, The Secret Garden is that rarest breed of family film that transcends its own generic category, encouraging a sense of wonder and optimism to become a rewarding experience for viewers of any age. --Jeff Shannon

Great Movie.......2007-05-13
A good adaptation of a wonderful children's story. More importance is placed on the "magic" of the story than on the faith in the story. Faith, Prayer, Hope and Love of God are what created the magic and this is not emphasized as it is in the book. This was disappointing, but other than that the setting was beautiful and allowed our imaginations to fill in the gaps that were emitted from the movie that F. H. Burnett had written. A wonderful family movie.
Very Positive.......2007-05-06
This movie is very good because it shows the power of friendship and the importance of believeing in ourselves and knowing that we can do anything, if we don't give-up.
SECRET GARDEN.......2007-04-02
I RECEIVED MY DVD QUICKLY AND VERY GOOD CONDITION I WILL KEEP ORDERING AS USUAL.
beautiful story.......2007-02-09
this is a book/movie you want to take to a deserted island with you- believe!
Wonderful Film.......2007-01-18
This is a great film, I loved it as a child and still enjoy it now. The Secret Garden is still the simple story of two children looking for a love that they dont have.
Don't miss this version of the Secre Garden!

You don't have to be a munchie-loving stoner or an aspiring rock god to enjoy Tenacious D in The Pick of Destiny, but it helps. A dozen years after they introduced their mock-rock power duo on the Los Angeles club scene, Jack Black and Kyle Gass finally got the movie showcase (a partial spinoff from the D's short-lived HBO series) their fans had been waiting for, and it's a rockin' romp with plenty of crude laughs that will hit home for anyone who's ever played air guitar to Meat Loaf's "Bat out of Hell." It's a Beavis and Butt-head-like origin story, recalling the legend (ahem) of how JB (Black) and KG (Gass) met, bonded over bong-hits and rock-operatic guitar licks, then set out (on a tip from a crazed guitar-store clerk played by Ben Stiller) to find the mythic pick of destiny, used by all guitar gods and said to be fashioned from the tooth of Satan. Their quest includes a variety of well-cast cameos (including Tim Robbins, Meat Loaf, and Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl as Satan himself), and there's plenty of flatulence, drug humor, at least one hilarious fantasy sequence, and outrageous sight gags too numerous to mention. Suffice it to say, it's about 90 minutes of lowbrow indulgence, and some of the jokes fall flat, but if you're a headbanger at heart, you'll know what Tenacious D is riffing on, and the sweet licks (also available on the soundtrack CD) will sound that much sweeter. If you're not ready to RAWK, this potential cult favorite may not be for you... but give it try anyway. It may not be better than Citizen Kane, but if you're properly stoked, it comes close to rock & roll heaven. --Jeff Shannon

crazy funny.........2007-06-19
If you are looking for a first rate comedy with witticisms in the league of 'philidelphia story' or even 'spinal tap' you have obviously come to the wrong place..
On the other hand if you are looking for a movie with moments so absurd that you cannot help but double over in laughter.. a sort of movie that could become a stoner cult classic - by all means procede ladies and gentleman..
Jack Black is one of those fat rednosed comedians of the chris farley ilk that can and will make you one of his admirers - the man is just plain funny..
and while tenacious d is not the perfect vehicle for his humor - it is a good one, without a doubt..
CAN'T STOP WATCHING IT.......2007-05-29
Picked this up with 2 other movies (3 for $20 at Hollywood video) and am so glad I did. I keep it on constant rotation in my DVD player. Seen it about 12 times in a row now. It's great. Everything's pretty much awesome about it. Jack Black is so funny! This movies really brings me back to the mentality I had when I was 14. Love it!
AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.......2007-05-28
This masterpiece is an underrated work of genius. Fans of the HBO series should love this. J.B. is so cool & K.G. is so raaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaad. ROCK ON
Snort, Snert, Guffaw.......2007-05-16
I knew nothing whatsoever of Tenacious D before I watched this movie. And it did not matter. I laughed until I SCREAMED! The first 2 scenes and the rockoff with "Beelzeboss" are murder! I had to get up and jump up and down to get all the laughter out!
Tenacious D rocks my socks off...but the movie, alas, did not .......2007-05-07
I know I will be in the minority here, but I gotta say it. I am a huge Tenacious D fan (I loved the eponymous album, played it a million times until I had memorized nearly every lyric; also own the far superior "Masterworks" DVD, which I can't recommend enough). This movie was just okay...maybe I had really high expectations because of how much I love KG and Jables, also I already owned the soundtrack CD (bought it the first day it was out!) so things like the showdown with the demon (Dave Grohl) didn't hold a lot of surprise value for me. I do like the opening sequence, and parts of the movie, but it just could have been SO much better, given the talent involved. Even watching 10 minutes of the D in concert holds more laughs than 90 minutes of this movie, in my opinion. I do hope they record a second album (I don't think the soundtrack to this movie "counts") which will be incredibly triumphant just like the first album was. Finally, another reviewer stated that this movie features "the best showdown ever" (the D vs. the demon)...go check out the movie "Crossroads" to see an amazing guitar showdown between Ralph Macchio and Steve Vai, you won't be disappointed. I wonder if that may have been a small part of their inspiration here?

David Lynch peeks behind the picket fences of small-town America to reveal a corrupt shadow world of malevolence, sadism, and madness. From the opening shots Lynch turns the Technicolor picture postcard images of middle class homes and tree-lined lanes into a dreamy vision on the edge of nightmare. After his father collapses in a preternaturally eerie sequence, college boy Kyle MacLachlan returns home and stumbles across a severed human ear in a vacant lot. With the help of sweetly innocent high school girl (Laura Dern), he turns junior detective and uncovers a frightening yet darkly compelling world of voyeurism and sex. Drawn deeper into the brutal world of drug dealer and blackmailer Frank, played with raving mania by an obscenity-shouting Dennis Hopper in a career-reviving performance, he loses his innocence and his moral bearings when confronted with pure, unexplainable evil. Isabella Rossellini is terrifyingly desperate as Hopper's sexual slave who becomes MacLachlan's illicit lover, and Dean Stockwell purrs through his role as Hopper's oh-so-suave buddy. Lynch strips his surreally mundane sets to a ghostly austerity, which composer Angelo Badalamenti encourages with the smooth, spooky strains of a lush score. Blue Velvet is a disturbing film that delves into the darkest reaches of psycho-sexual brutality and simply isn't for everyone. But for a viewer who wants to see the cinematic world rocked off its foundations, David Lynch delivers a nightmarish masterpiece. --Sean Axmaker
Customer Reviews:
A technical masterpiece; abhorrent Lynch message........2007-06-18
On one hand, Blue Velvet is a brilliant channeling of Nicholas Ray, it displays a stunning use of Cinemascope and Dolby Stereo, and is the cresting wave of Lynch's technique that he developed with Eraserhead. But for all of its technical glory, it is also a disgusting concoction of a film that takes the Sam Fuller moral universe to its repulsive denoument.
Lynch creates some incredibly humiliating and violent scenes. He reveals human beings at their most horriffic, abusive, and vulnerable. For this alone, Blue Velvet is quite amazing and certainly unique in the annals of American film. But Lynch shows almost no ability to counteract this with any semblance of structure or decency. In fact, the only characters in the movie who might signify compassion are treated as dupes, turncoats, or ignorami.
I had the experience of seeing Blue Velvet many years ago at a screening where cinematographer Frederic Elmes spoke. I was about 16 at the time and I could not believe that during the entire film a group of hipster kids were laughing hysterically. I mean, laughing at a brutalized, raped woman standing on a lawn, delusioned into thinking she has found a kindred spirit from her nightmarish life. It was simply awful -- because here was a film that I had been so mesmerized with, found it so powerful, only to have it mocked by these obnoxious jerks. I wound up getting into an argument with them at the screening -- Elmes was there, it was bad.
But there are simply laughably awful things in Blue Velvet. Like the bird. The last shot with Dorothy. It has to be a mockery of Judeo-Christian middle-American values. Or is it?
The more I watch Blue Velvet, particularly in light of Lynch's subsequent films, the more it becomes apparent that he is frequently inept at conveying any meaningful message. After the monomaniacal, relatively simplistic tour-de-force of The Elephant Man, he has lapsed into the worst kind of cornball sentimentalizing (The Straight Story). Does Lynch want his characters to be laughed at hysterically for being stripped naked, raped brutally? Maybe he doesn't care, it's hard to tell. Blue Velvet is extremely confused about what it wants to say. That would be one thing if it were simply an art film, but this film depicts such shocking inhumanity, I find the lack of focus quite disturbing. Frank is nothing short of a homicidal maniac -- these people really exist in the world. Lynch gets the visceral cinematic payoffs of violence, but he does nothing to countermand them. If that isn't exploitative I don't know what is.
if you havent seen this yet, give yourself a gift........2007-04-30
i can say various things about why i love this movie, but most importantly i think is the hitchcock-esque atmoshpere and the dark alien underworld alongside the innocent down to earth relationship between kyle's and laura's characters play a lot on how a person will view the film. lets say this...if you enjoy movies like pulp fiction, big lebowski, and rear window, lynch is really a treat..especially here. i mean, i personally felt like i was in the character, Jeffrey's shoes the whole time.
i dont know how some folks dislike this film, but im not going to argue since that is their opinion...just give it a viewing iif you never saw it. at least once.
Nice to see Dennis Hopper up and around.......2007-04-26
another ego Lynch mess. How he became so avante guard is beyond me. Isabella is beautiful, Laura Dern looks like a bannana, Kyle is ok, Dennis is convincing as the impotent thug who kidnapped Izzy's baby in order to get her to do things to him, couldn't he have hired a hooker? Usual Lynch mess, try to figure out who's who, after a while you just don't care. At least I didn't. Don't bother.
Dissappointing.......2007-04-09
This movie wasn't near as disturbing as I had hoped. I was actually bored during quite a few scenes. It would have been better if I hadn't expected so much, from reading all sorts of reviews. I'm actually watching the end of it right now while I'm writing this review, that's how interested I am. lol Oh, well.
Started good and then sort of fizzled............2007-04-09
I loved Mulholland Drive so next on the "Lynch" list for me was Blue Velvet. It started off with some interesting things happening but just sort of spun its wheels and rather abruptly ended with a pretty standard, pre-canned movie ending that took some steam out of it so to speak.
The acting was OK. Laura Dern looks damned young here...and, well, she was young here. The problem is that her acting wasnt very polished. She has grown leaps and bounds since this so thats good. Kyle McLauchlin was decent but he didnt have any or portray any of that small-town goodness which he needed to show more of to be more believable and to add a sense of "wow" to this whole caper. Dennis Hopper was his usual obnoxious self. He had some funny moments but became rather annoying towards the end as his crazy guy "act" was becoming tiresome. Isabella Rosellini is pretty hot and does a great job with a very tough role so hats off to her. She was easily the best character in the movie.
The plot grabbed me from the beginning but nothing really came of it. It just sort of built itself up and then dissolved into the same old stuff without much fanfare. I was expecting some more interesting twists (like Mulholland Drive) or at least a little deeper plot arc. It never came though and before I knew it it was over and that was that. Nothing really notable or revealing here, just a pretty basic movie. I get the whole "Even in small-town USA there are crazy thing going on" message but to be honest, maybe the film doesnt age well since nothing I saw was even that amazingly bad or disturbing. The "rape" scene had its "ohhhhh" moments but even that had some tongue-in-cheek(meant to be silly) antics which killed the "horror" of it or the "disturbing" nature of it.
Go ahead and try it out but I was rather underwhelmed by this effort and after the mind-blowing Mulholland Drive, this was mostly a let-down.
Only Recommended as a rental...

Product Description
This sexy thriller has been acclaimed as one of the year s best films. Two beautiful women are caught up in a lethally twisted mystery and ensnared in an equally dangerous web of erotic passion. There s nothing like this baby anywhere! This sinful pleasure is a fresh triumph for Lynch, and one of the best films of the year. Visionary daring, swooning eroticism and colors that pop like a whore s lip gloss! says Rolling Stone s Peter Travers. See it then see it again! (Time Out New York)

Pandora couldn't resist opening the forbidden box containing all the delusions of mankind, and let's just say David Lynch, in Mulholland Drive, indulges a similar impulse. Employing a familiar film noir atmosphere to unravel, as he coyly puts it, "a love story in the city of dreams," Lynch establishes a foreboding but playful narrative in the film's first half before subsuming all of Los Angeles and its corrupt ambitions into his voyeuristic universe of desire. Identities exchange, amnesia proliferates, and nightmare visions are induced, but not before we've become enthralled by the film's two main characters: the dazed and sullen femme fatale, Rita (Laura Elena Harring), and the pert blonde just-arrived from Ontario (played exquisitely by Naomi Watts) who decides to help Rita regain her memory. Triggered by a rapturous Spanish-language version of Roy Orbison's "Crying," Lynch's best film since Blue Velvet splits glowingly into two equally compelling parts. --Fionn Meade
Customer Reviews:
The best movie of the 21st Century (so far).......2007-06-25
I could watch this DVD 199 times (in a row!) and still not have the puzzle figured out? Is the whole thing a dream? All but a few minutes? Only the first two-thirds? None? And what's up with the senior couple? Or the cowboy? And whatever it is that lives behind the diner? And Lee Grant's Louise Bonner: she's the only character that really knows what's going on, right?
I would've flashed up "spoiler alert" -- but this movie is unspoilable. This is David Lynch's masterpiece. I liked "Blue Velvet." I liked the first season of "Twin Peaks," but kinda lost interest when it focused too much on the Log Lady in Season Two. But I lost interest in Lynch after the terrible "Wild At Heart." Nothing David Lynch has done before can prepare you for this. This is the cinematic equivalent of Bob Beamon's 29ft 2.5in high jump in 1968: nothing David Lynch has ever done will prepare you for something this extraordinary.
What is it about? L.A. A city of juxtapositions. The glitzy and the tawdry. Success and failure. Reality and delusion. The blonde and the brunette. Innocence and hot girl-on-girl action. Betty Elms and Diana Selwyn. What's it really about? Who knows! I don't think even David Lynch really knows. This is an incredible work of art (not all movies are "art") that will leave you wondering about what you just saw for weeks, months, years, after the fact.
Lynch is the man!!!!!!!.......2007-06-17
Never mind the bollocks of any negative reviews. I'm not going to go any details about this film seeing I'm the "M" of the count (yeh!!!!).If you are into mindblowing films that will leave you in a trance for days on end , well then by all means just buy-watch-and enjoy.
Brilliant.......2007-06-07
THIS IS BY FAR ONE OF THE BEST MOVIES OF ALL TIME, i don't even wan't to talk about or explain this movie because for people who haven't seen it, it will take away from the film's brilliance. Excellent movie.
100% Percent Weird! .......2007-05-21
Director David Lynch is one of the most bizzare directors of our time. Once again, he continues to keep our interests in check with a spinning web of intrigue and danger. Naomi Watts is one of the most promissing actresses in Hollywood. Her performance as Betty, the naive actress from Deep River, Ontario (just east of Ottawa) is genuine and sincere. Laura Elena Herring's pressence as Rita is just mezzmerising. She's one of the most beautiful women I've scene on film. The camera just loves her! However, the film story and plot is enough to frustrate the average viewer. If you've scene some of Lynch's other work (minus "Dune", "The Straight Story" and "The Elephant Man"), you'll know you're in for a challenge. Fans of "Twin Peaks" will enjoy this one! Aside from the twists and turns and the bizarre sub-plots, this film is 80% percent good, 100% percent weird!
Right up there with Rosemary's Baby.......2007-05-10
Lynch's story-telling and directing are unparalleled and unique. What is important about this film is that it depicts a certain truth that no other film has ever achieved: DEPICTS THE SUPERNATURAL STRANGENESS OF GOING TO THE SUPERNATURAL "OTHER SIDE" for fame and fortune. Expert landscaping of Hollywood, covering Mind Control, Handlers, controllers, where power comes from, the satanic system and how it is propagated...
More important, Lynch shows what happens to people who rebel once they have sold their souls.
I believe that Lynch here is a prophet screaming in the wilderness about a reality that he knows--now he can't just outright tell you. So he disguises much of it in confabulistic imagery and metaphor...but for those who know, IT IS THE REAL THING.
I am surprised they released it, but Lynch fooled them. If you want to know how it works in Hollywood from a supernatural-mind-control-soul scalping perspective...see it. As for the sex... it's psycho-sex... not gratuitous sex... everything in this film advances the plot, the point of which is: YOU CANNOT WIN. No one wins in Hollywood. You just prolongue losing.
There are several versions of the devil depicted in the film--all of whom run Hollywood and all of whom are the same character. See if you can spot them. Hint. One resides outside by the dumpster of Mr. Winkie's diner, ruling the world. The other is a cowboy. In my opinion, these are all the same Person.
I'll leave it right there. I think the film is required viewing for any serious film buff interested in Hollywood and how it works.

In its second season, Melrose Place turned up the heat, resulting in a funnier, sexier series. Alison (Courtney Thorne-Smith) continues to see Billy (Andrew Shue), Jake (Grant Show) moves in with Jo (Daphne Zuniga), and Jane (Josie Bissett) divorces Michael (Thomas Calabro), who shacks up with Kimberly (Marcia Cross). That leaves Matt (the underused Doug Savant), who has an affair with a sailor; Amanda (Heather Locklear), who sets her sights on Jake; and Sydney (Laura Leighton), who sets hers on Michael. A lot changes during the year: Sydney turns to prostitution, Jo kills in self-defense, Amanda and Jo catch a voyeur in the act, and Michael and Kimberly end up in the hospital when he crashes their car. Though Michael recovers after a few episodes, Kimberly slips into a coma and then disappears. Michael is told she's died; fortunately for fans, he was misinformed. Kimberly eventually returns, but though she looks the same, she isn't. Turns out, she's now a certifiable loony--and she intends to make Michael pay. As she memorably tells Sydney in the season finale, "You're looking at human garbage... when Michael's dead, God's gonna do a jig."
By the end of the second year, one marriage will have taken place, while another will be called off at the last minute. After an entertaining, if overly earnest first season, Melrose Place had found its footing. The acting isn't always first-rate--the crying scenes are particularly unconvincing--but 31 episodes in one year must have been draining on the cast (most dramas top out at 23). Guest stars include Parker Stevenson as a high-tech millionaire, Gina Gershon as a waitress/call girl, Linda Gray as Amanda's estranged mother, and future X-Men star Famke Janssen as a high-class hooker. --Kathleen C. Fennessy

Melrose Place Season 2 Review.......2007-05-31
The DVD set was delivered very promptly as promised and the quality was excellent.
The content of the show is great...(that goes without saying to any Melrose Place fan!!!!).
Very good video.......2007-05-30
This is the second season of Melrose, the 90's icon show...it is full of surprises and fast and furious action, and introduces show favorites such as Sidney, Kimberly, and Amanda...all of the famous fights and drama are here, and for those of us who grew up watching it...it feels good to be home again....
A risk free purchase.......2007-05-20
It was a pleasure to see this series after all these years. I remember when we used to eagerly await Tuesday nights at 9:30pm for our dose of the Melrose gang.
Season 2 is one of the best of the entire series with classic storylines throughout. It's also where Heather Locklear's character really took over and she is simply brilliant throughout. It's not just her though that has made this the classic it is. You have Laura Leighton who shines as Sydney, Marcia Cross as Kimberley, and then there is the annoying but likeable Alison (played by Courtney Smith).
Look out for those famous scenes ie.
-where Kimberley removes her wig to reveal a nasty scar from the accident.
-Sydney hits rock bottom and becomes a prostitute
-Amanda throwing her weight around at work
-Billy and Alison's constant fights
The show actually holds up very well after all these years. Sure, it's far fetched at times and trashy, but there are also some true heartfelt moments which gave the show a human touch.
This is a risk free purchase. A must own!
Even Better Than The First Season.......2007-05-13
This season is truly outstanding. There are lots of twists and turns in this show - you'll never be bord.
I should also mention that I have watched all 8 discs, and they all played without any problems. I will say, however, that discs 7 and 8 are grainy, especially disc 7. It is really sad that these discs were not re-done. In this day and age there is just no excuse to not fix a disc to superb quality. After all, we are paying for these discs and we expect quality.
