Elegantly designed and super compact, the S400 has a protective stainless steel shell with a celabrite finish, which mixes metals and ceramics to produce a tough cool-toned exterior that is visually stunning. It also features Canon's new Print/Share button, which helps you quickly connect directly to a printer or send an image via e-mail.

Optics and Resolution
The 4-megapixel PowerShot S410 can capture 2272 x 1704 images for photo quality 11 x 14 print enlargements. It also has 1600 x 1200, 1024 x 768, and 640 x 480 resolution modes. The 3x optical zoom lens has a focal length of 7.4-22.2mm (35mm equivalent: 36-108mm). It also has a 3.6x digital zoom.

Canon Technology Features

Direct Printing/Sharing
The PowerShot S410 introduces a new Print/Share button that speeds and simplifies printing to compatible Canon and PictBridge enabled printers and one-touch image transfer to Windows XP, Me, 2000, and 98 computers for use with image processing programs, uploading to the Internet, or placement in e-mail. When connected to a Canon Compact Photo printer, a Movie Print mode divides the selected clip into equal parts and prints thumbnails of a maximum 63 equally spaced frames onto a single sheet of Postcard Size Paper.

Storage and Transfer
Images and video are stored on CompactFlash memory cards (Type I only) and the included 32 MB card holds approximately 21 images at the Large/Fine setting. Images can be downloaded to either a Mac or PC via USB 1.1 connectivity, which means the camera can be connected to any USB-based Windows Me/2000/XP and Mac OS 8.6 or later computer without installing any software.

Power and Size
The camera is powered by rechargeable lithium-ion battery (NB-1LH). With the LCD on, you will get approximately 190 shots. It measures 3.43 x 2.24 x 1.09 inches and weighs 6.5 ounces (without batteries).

5 out of 5 stars Cano makes great camers.......2007-02-09

I bought this as a gift to a family member and what can I say. Easy to take pictures, and they come out looking really good. This is the second Canon I've purchased and its very reliable.

2 out of 5 stars E18 !!!.......2007-01-06

I have owned the S410 camera for almost two years, when on New Years Eve I pulled out my handy camera, from the padded case it's always in, and to my horror, the E18 error message appeared! It hasn't worked since. I paid $400 for this camera and Canon would like $110 (plus taxes) to fix the problem - ridiculous. Especially since this seems to be a VERY common problem with their cameras. I've enjoyed the camera's picture quality and ease of use, but what a waste to spend that much money to take pictures with it for just under two years! Beware of this flaw that Canon doesn't seem to acknowledge.

3 out of 5 stars an excellent camera, until..........2006-10-29

I bought this camera off of Amazon in June 2005. It was my first digital camera, and I had tons of fun using it- very user-friendly, and produced terrific pictures. Despite its inability to tell me the battery percentage before flashing red, I liked that the battery was quickly rechargeable and usually stayed charged for a few days of constant use or a few weeks of occasional use. However, I am cheap and did not bother to buy a camera case for it to protect it- it either dangled from my wrist or fell to the bottom of my purse. The body, although pretty, scratches easily, and by now my camera is now not nearly as nice-looking as when I first bought it.

In February 2006, my camera decided to not turn on one day. I thought it was the battery- I took it out, recharged it, and put it back in. Nothing happened. I looked back in the users' guide, realized there was a one-year limited warranty, and promptly sent it back to Canon with the warranty and the form I had to fill out. They sent it back to me within a few weeks- they were very good about repairing it, even though, to this day, I have no idea what was wrong with it. The camera kept on truckin'.

Two weeks ago, my camera was in my purse, as usual, and I took it out to take a picture of something when I realized that the shutter button was missing- I have no idea where it could have gone, as it is not in my purse. You see, this is a problem- a camera without a shutter is rather useless. I have succeeded in sticking a paper clip down the hole that the shutter once connected to, but obviously it does not work as well as an actual button. Now that the warranty was over, I made the decision, with the help of some birthday money, to buy a new camera- I have not done so yet, but I plan to purchase a Sony Cyber-shot within the next few days.

If you are planning on buying this camera, I would strongly advise you to buy a carrying case for it, a larger memory card, and an extra battery or two, and to exercise caution. But if you're willing to purchase these things, don't let this stop you from getting the camera.

Customer Reviews:

1 out of 5 stars This is a disposable.......2007-01-11

I reviewed this camera on the other s410 listing. This camera is a piece of crap. E18 errors which means your lens extends and wont go back in or the reverse. Canon is ignoring the problem and thier customers. This usually happens when out of warranty, 2.5 years. They say it is due to it being droped, sand in the lens, the moon in retrograde, whatever. My camera was well cared for never dropped looks like new and the problem occured. If you buy this camera its like a throw of the dice that it will happen to you so prepare for another 150 bucks to fix the problem, or buy a brand that stands behind thier product. I heard that there are a couple of class actions in the works over this issue, I hope they succeed, I am going to see if I can join the class and get my money back. And if you think it is random, my friend had the same problem with one of the A models. Its not, it hapens to most canon cameras. do a google search for E18 before you buy this hunk of junk

5 out of 5 stars Canon PowerShot S410 4MP Digital.......2006-07-24
