5 out of 5 stars Great Camera, Excellent Price.......2006-08-17

Great starter camera that is very user friendly with absolutely no learning curve. Extremely sturdy unlike new more sophisticated models.

1 out of 5 stars Blurry pictures.......2006-05-14

I have had this camera for about five years and thought the poor photos were me. But after all this time the camera is still taking bad shots. Grainy(sp) pictures.

4 out of 5 stars I'm Impressed.......2006-04-19

This camera was another one of those gifts I couldn't use because I wouldn't upgrade from Windows 95, and truth be told I just liked film, so the little camera found its way into the closet; however, when I upgraded to an Apple iMac G5 Desktop with 17" M9843LL/A (1.8 GHz PowerPC G5, 512 MB RAM, 160 GB Hard Drive, DVD/CD-RW Drive) last summer I hooked it up and was very impressed with the results (I've included six examples in the "share a photo" section, all were taken with the "Fine" photo quality setting (1200X1600 resolution.) A "Basic" (640X480) and "SuperFine" (1200X1600) are also available. Be sure to get a case to protect your camera, the best one I've seen is the HP PhotoSmart Padded Hip Pouch for use with HP PhotoSmart Digital Cameras 215, 315, 618.

This is a beginners camera that was outdated years ago, yet it takes pictures that are more clear and colorful than any comparable digital camera I've compared it to, including a few new cameras that are supposed to be marketed at more discerning customers. A friend of mine with a new and more capable camera was actually a bit miffed when he compared the results of our impromptu comparison test. I used it for Ebay and got fantastic results. I've also used it to print photos on a HP PhotoSmart 7760 Photo Printer and got very good results as well.

I've been using this camera for almost a year now and it has weathered over 100,000 miles of driving, bad roads, getting tossed into bags (then carried into hotels), so long as I am reasonably careful (its tough, but not built like a tank.) The only objection I've had is a problem taking pictures of a very fast airplane that was powered by a rocket engine (and I managed to get a few ok pics of the plane anyway.) For the tiny price you pay to get an HP 315 today, plus the very inexpensive memory cards it uses, this is a fantastic starter camera.

5 out of 5 stars Tough little camera!.......2005-04-21

The newer models are so weak and fragile comapred to this camera. While at 2 MP it is now a dinosaur, the exterior is incredibly tough and has survived being dropped, fallen down stairs, had soda and gasoline spilled on it, been through flames (briefly by accident) and has been stepped on.

It is still working and taking photos for my job that I need it for daily. It is a VERY durable camera!

The con to this one is that it only has digital zoom, no optical zoom capability. Optical Zoom produces the best photo quality. Digital Zoom makes the image look more and more pixelated as you go higher on the zoom level. It is best for small pictures used for emailing - not the best for printing, though it will do decent for 4x6 photos!

It also has a long delay for start-up and between the time you take the photo and the time it actually flashes....too long of a delay really so you have to hold still a few moments...

But overall a very durable camera, good for kids where photos aren't as important and good for kids because it's very durable with them!

The compact flash cards are very cheap now so the cards for this camera can be bought for around $30 at Best Buy for up to 512MB of storage!!

5 out of 5 stars Great camera.......2005-02-26

This is a great entry level camera. I have used it for years and had no problems with it. Just turn it on and shoot. Great use of battery life as well. I have shot over 800 pictures with lcd off before i had to change them.

1 out of 5 stars Don't Come Anywhere Near This Worthless Camera!!!!.......2004-07-15

Okay, so my birthday was a week ago ...My family knew I really wanted a digital camera, so they decided to pick the HP PS620 for me ...Just looking at the box told me that this was nothing to get excited about. Only 2 Megapixels? 3x optical zoom? That's it?

Yeah, I was polite and thankful upon getting it as a gift, but I'll defenitely be returning it with a speed!

Before you ever turn on the camera, you'll already be unimpressed. The camera feels very light and plastic-ish. Weighing in at a mere .46 pounds, this thing feels more like a children's toy than a real $200 digital camera.

Then you start taking pictures ...Anyone who has ever had a digital camera before will immediately notice the lack of features and options, and the picture quality can easily be obtained (surpassed, even??) with a much cheaper 35mm. There really isn't any special features or advanced options to speak of, and the photographer's creative control is extremely restricted. There is not even a Sepia or Black & White Mode to speak of, so any such editing of your pictures will have to be done on your computer, in a Photoshop program for example.

Many things that a serious photographer would like to have control over will be absent. The white balance, ISO, and the shutter speed cannot be controlled, they are all automatic! This becomes very frustrating.

There is also a "movie" mode, but I believe it is actually refered to as a "motion image" or "motion JPEG" or something. This is because you can't record the video with audio.

So really, the best thing to do is never, ever, ever buy this camera for yourself, or loved ones on their birthdays, either. Serious photographers will find absolutely NO significant controls to take charge over, feeling very restricted. The camera is simply too simple for them. Folks new to digital cameras will find themselves satisfied for now, but in a few months when they begin learning more and more about digital cams they will already be ready for an upgrade. So even for amateurs, the camera is not worth the price.

I recomend instead the Sony Cybershot P10. It does cost a bit more money, but new digital photographers will find a lot of options and controls at their disposal. Even though there's a bit more to learn with that camera, no one should be intimidated by it. Sony has made a very easily-accessible camera in the P10.

For even more advanced photographers, the Nikon Coolpix 5700 is an excellent 5.0 megapixel camera, with even yet more advanced features than the Sony P10.

Both of these cameras will make any photographer, amateurs and serious ones, very happy ...the price is a little higher, but anyone willing to give either a try will realize that the price is definitely worth it.

And as for this worthless camera? Anyone could eventually find that this simplified, point-and-shoot camera is hardly worth $200. I wouldn't pay one red cent for this thing.

2 out of 5 stars Mine is defective.......2004-07-01

My camera has a problem where a lot of times, the picture breaks and disaligns, and I get a garbled picture. Does anyone have an idea of what to do???

4 out of 5 stars Nice Camera for the Price.......2004-06-22

This is a nice camera for its price (...).
3x Optical Zoom is good, but don't expect anything from digital zoom. There isn't much memory, though (You need an SD Card), and onboard memory only stores 7 photos at top resolution.

Amazon.com Product Description

Printer

Ideal for personal use or for a home business, the HP 825C combines a variety of features with an economical price. Average print speeds are 6.5 pages per minute (ppm) for black text, and 4.5 ppm when using colored inks. With either format, your documents receive crisp definition through the 600 x 300 dpi resolution and thermal ink-jet print method. It's ready for letter-, legal-, and executive-size paper, as well as transparencies, envelopes, greeting cards, photo paper, and labels. The paper tray can hold up to 100 sheets of standard paper or 30 envelopes at a time. Weighing in at just 12 pounds, the printer is sized to be especially convenient where space is at a premium. It connects to your system via a USB port and is compatible with Microsoft Windows 98, 2000, and Me. Hewlett Packard offers a 90-day warranty on parts and service.

Camera

This traditional point-and-shoot-style digital camera incorporates a 2.1-megapixel sensor that captures enough detail for crisp prints at sizes up to 8 x 10 inches. Designed for simple operation, the camera features automatic focus, exposure, and flash--just push the button, and the camera does the rest. A 1.8-inch color LCD display on the back of the Photosmart 315 lets you preview and review each photo you take. Additional features include red-eye reduction and fill flash, 2.5x digital zoom, and a self-timer. Images are recorded on reusable CompactFlash cards; an 8 MB card is included. Four AA batteries provide power. HP includes a set of alkalines, but all digital cameras are battery hogs, and we strongly recommend purchasing a set of rechargeable batteries.

Customer Reviews:

3 out of 5 stars VERY UPSET WITH HP.......2002-04-16

I was first time buyer of this package deal, camera and printer. Was so happy when i got it home till i went to hook it up and OMG THE SERVICE I received from HP was so bad I will never purchase another product from them. IT JUST WAS NOT WORTH THE HASSEL THEY GAVE ME. AND THE RUDENESS TO A CUSTOMER.AND THEN LIE TO BOOT. OMG

5 out of 5 stars Great combo package!.......2002-03-24

I bought this package about 2 weeks ago and have been very glad that I did. I was looking for my first digital camera but did not want a 1.3 megapixel camera to start with. The image quality is quite good with great color and sharpness. I'd have spent double of what I did buying the printer and camera separately. It is a really sweet deal considering that I was only after the camera. What's more is that both are fully compatible with Mac OS X and iPhoto. I highly recommend this package looking for an entry level digicam and a good quality printer!

4 out of 5 stars great package for the money.......2002-02-24

Just bought this package and have been extremely surprised. I had been looking at digital cameras and just recently my printer went south. If you buy the camera alone it is 7/8's the total package price.Printer set up well and seems easy to use. No problems but don't really expect photo quality. Camera is great too for my purposes. Software quite simple. I recomend you also get the optional black printing cartridge and definately ugrade to a larger flash card like a 32 or 64mb. All in all I was not expecting a ... top notch printer [and camera] so I am very pleased. A real value. Only thing I don't like is HP sells the A/C adapter for [aditional money]. This is really necessary if uploading alot. And don't expect the batteries to last as long as the one in the TV remote.
