3 out of 5 stars A fairly decent bundle for a beginner........2007-05-02

About a year ago I was looking for a camera/printer bundle because I was interested in taking/printing pictures to make scrapbooks. I had owned a couple digital cameras before this one but figured I might as well buy a new one since printers alone are so much money. If I was spending money on a printer, I might as well get a new camera to go with it. ESPECIALLY if it would cost me next to nothing to get the camera. So I found this bundle on Amazon. I noted that it had 5 megapixels and 3x optical zoom which is pretty darn good. And HP is a decent brand. So I went ahead and bought it.

Now for my review of the camera. Let me first start off by saying that I'm not a camera expert by any means. However, I do know what I want my pictures to look like and I do know that there ARE cameras out there that can take really good pictures (I know this because the camera that I'm currently using is one of those cameras). One thing that I didn't want is a camera that takes a while to process after taking a picture. Not only does this camera take a while to process pictures, but if you move even slightly within 5 seconds after taking a picture, the picture comes out blurry. This is extremely inconvenient if you need to take several pictures in a row very quickly or if you want to take a picture of someone in movement or if your subject is jumpy (I know this because my cousin owns this camera as well and has trouble taking pictures of her 8 month old daughter). Also, the brightness doesn't always show what the true brightness is. I know how to use the flash and I understand what ISO settings are so I don't think that I'm the problem. I've taken plenty of pictures using other cameras and haven't had this problem. As far as the options on the camera, they are decent. You can play around with different settings to alter your photos (like changing the picture to black and white or sepia). These options are a little bonus.

The screen is a good size. No problems there whatsoever. The internal memory is typical. Most cameras can only hold a handful of pictures so an SD card is a necessary purchase.

As for the printer, I don't have any real problems with it. I'll admit that I've only used it with the few photo papers that came with the printer. The pictures that I DID print came out looking like pictures that you get developed. So if it's easier for you to use this printer instead of going to a drugstore to get them developed, this printer is a great option. The picture looks exactly like how it was taken. Nothing was cropped out of the original picture. The printing time isn't too long so if you want to print multiple pictures at once, time is not a huge problem. One thing that I did like about the printer is that you can dock the camera on it. Not only does docking charge the camera (let's face it, camera batteries die pretty often), but it also lets you review the pictures you took. This is pretty handy if you don't have a computer around.

So would I recommend this bundle? If this is your first digital camera and you're ok with a) having pictures with incorrect brightness and b) having to play with the camera a bit to get a good picture, go for it. I think it's a great bundle if you're scrapbooking and don't necessarily need to get "the perfect shot". Or if you're purchasing this just for the printer, that's a great idea too. However, if you've owned a digital camera before and want accurate pictures, I'd skip on this bundle. I have a Sony DSC-H2 and it works wonderfully (no playing around with the camera to get a good shot... just press the shutter and you've got a good picture). You truly get what you pay for. I'd suggest testing out cameras at a store before buying one.. If I had tested this one at a store, I would have passed on it hands down.

4 out of 5 stars Very good for the money.......2007-03-16

I've had the camera for over a year, and taken several thousand pictures with it. It's pretty darn good overall. I've been pleased with the image quality, especially for scenery shots. It does fall somewhat short with portraits of people in many cases, though. Easy to use. Minor durability problems.

3 out of 5 stars A good deal, a fair camera.......2007-02-13

I had to have the camera replaced by HP because it never really would stay "on" for more than a few shots. The process was so bad, I'll never by another HP camera. The printer is the older series, using #95 cortridges, so they are not waterproof. But it prints just fine.

5 out of 5 stars Easy to use.......2007-02-13

Gave this to the in-laws for Cristmas and they were taking pictures the next time we went to visit. Definitely buy additional memory, the internal memory is really more of a back-up.

4 out of 5 stars A nice, handy camera.......2007-02-11

This camera works great. And the batteries last quite awhile too. Good quality pictures. A good deal for the price.

1 out of 5 stars Not a very good camera.......2007-06-02

I have had this camera since December of 2005.But i got i with the printer too.The printer is very good. But more can be said for the camera. For a few reasons The battery life is very poor.Like it can probley last you 30 mins at the most. And some times if you take a lot of pictures you can use them from the camera. And it will say photo can not be found. And sometimes whene you turn the camera on the screen will be off.And the screen is kind of bleek and dark and blurry too.And the video quality is horrible. And when you are taking a video with the camer the videos are very blurry and poor. And when you take a video you can look at the video on the camera but you CAN NOT HEAR THE SOUND.You have to have a computer to here the sound. And my grandpa has a canon and you can watch the video and hear the sound on the camera too!!!!!And in my opinon HP makes better computers then cameras. Thanks.

1 out of 5 stars camera has many flaws.......2007-05-07

I purchased this camera 1 year ago, and I was so disappointed in the performance. The battery life is terrible, I took it to our town's Christmas Parade, and all the pictures are grainy and really poor quality. I posted some so you can see, also when you take a picture you can not take a picture for another good ten seconds. I had a two foot away shot of the rapper Nelly, and the camera didn't take the shot, and I only caught a shot of his tattoo on his arm! Save your money and get a better camera, like the Canon A630 the same price and much better quality, the battery life is fantastic and the night shots are great too. The shutter speed is much better too. I now have my HP in the closet because when I tried to use it on Thanksgiving the zoom would no longer zoom, and the lense does not retract. The only way I can turn off the power is too take out the batteries! I never dropped it or mistreated my camera, it is just not a good quality camera.

5 out of 5 stars One of the better cameras.......2007-01-04

I've used several digital cameras in the past and this one is my favorite. It has the fewest number of confusing buttons (especially no awkward, symbol-laden dial around the on/off button) and most of the menus are pretty self explanatory. Its highly compact and very durable-- I took mine on a cross-country trip through the middle of the desert. And, of course, it has the best picture quality of all the cameras I've used. Admittedly, it is hard to get pictures in low light (the shutter has to remain open for a while to capture enough photons, resulting in a blurry picture if you hold it in your hands), but this camera does have a hole in the bottom for a screw-in tripod for stabilization.
Plus, its one of the cheaper brands out there. Best bet for my money.

2 out of 5 stars The camera with a glass chin!.......2006-11-29

While I agree with others that this camera takes some pretty nice pictures and is easy to use, I've had the same problems as many have noted here. For starters, the thing eats through batteries like there's no tomorrow. I was lucky to get 20 pictures before the batteries crapped out. My biggest problem, however came when my son was handing the camera over to me at the dinner table and it slipped out of his hand. The camera literally fell only 10-12 inches to the table, but that was enough to render this camera permanently inoperable. Be warned: if you are a little bit clumsy or have butter-fingers, think twice before buying this camera! Red-eye reduction is also a bit of a joke with this one.

3 out of 5 stars Sloooooow flash recharge.......2006-11-24

Like everyone else has said, this camera takes great pictures, but it can take a very long time for it to recharge its flash. It is very inconvenient when you are trying to take a cadid shot. If you have a large group posing for a picture and you don't like the first one, they all have to wait about 10 seconds for the flash to recharge before you can take another.
