Our 8 year old bought this camera with her saved up money. She absolutely loves it! It is great for anyone that doesn't want to spend a lot of money on a digital camera. The pictures come out pretty good. We're very happy with it.
the quality was too poor even for my 4-year old.......2007-05-16
we bought this piece of junk for our 4year old so she would not constantly ask to play with our own camera. the images on the camera were of such poor quality, i question whether i was wearing someone else's glasses. also, the batteries ran out after minimal use. if there are realtively good digital cameras on the market for 100$ with 3megapizels, then there is no reasong why an off-brand company cannot produce a reasonable child-qulaity 2MP camera for 40$. we plan on retruning this item.
LCD display highly disappointing.......2007-05-09
We bought this camera intending to give it to our 8-year-old son for his birthday. He loves taking pictures with the family's (expensive) digital camera, and I thought it would be good to get him a cheaper camera that we wouldn't be heartbroken about if it got lost or broken.
But when the Argus arrived and I tried it out prior to wrapping it for his birthday, I was so disappointed with it that I decided not to give it to my son after all. The problem is that the picture quality of the LCD display is horrible, no matter what lighting conditions you are in. I am sure that the actual picture quality of the photos themselves is better after you load it onto a computer or print them out. However, because this camera was meant for a child who mostly just likes pointing and clicking and looking at the photo on the camera display right then and there, the LCD display quality was unacceptable.
Not very easy to use.......2007-03-17
If you can actually get the picture to turn out right, it does take pretty decent pictures. Most of the time the photo is either over-exposed or too dark and grainy. It also only holds about 5 pictures, so you will have to buy a memory card if you want to really use this alot. I was a little disapointed with it due to the fact that it cost 40 dollars, and it doesn't really seem worth it.
Cheap easy to use camera. .......2007-03-03
This last Christmas I bought three of these cameras and some scrapbooking materials for my grandchildren, ages 6, 7 and 9. They were delighted. You can take a decent picture with this camera. Color is slightly off, and you have to be very still to get an unblurry picture, but the kids learning curve was rapid and by the end of the day they were taking pretty darn good pictures. Which I would print out for them for their scrapbooks. All and all a good buy for what it was intended.

Small but Powerful.......2006-10-30
With only two buttons to contend with and a miniature display screen, you better have good eyesight and good with a multifunction button. The unit will fit in any small shirt pocket and yet is rugged.
There is no preview display but I still have fun with it!! I Like-Love it!
For $20+ (US Dollars) you can't go wrong. I happen to have a spare 128 meg SDRAM card and the unit works great with it!
I use Linux and could not use the enclosed software that comes on a 3 inch CD but Linux detected and open the Camera with no effort at all! Mandriva 2007 detected the USB Camera and automatically opened the Camera as a Flash Drive Folder would open!
It's a toy but a lot of fun and it REALLY works and works well! For the price, it's great!

To counter some of the items in C.P. Dillon Jr's review in particular; I am not sure if the review was of the actual model listed here.
I also posted this as a comment on one of that review:
Is this review for the camera pictured? I have the camera pictured, and (first issue) it DOES save immediately in JPEG-compression not RAW. I am just concerned that you are giving someone a bad impression of the wrong camera. This is a "toss in the purse" for me; my "normal" camera is a high-end Olympus camera (just before moving into their professional line).
I can't really say much about battery life (issue two) because there are so many factors that go into how fast you drain the battery such constantly zooming in & out, how much you "play" with things, etc. Although I wouldn't say it's a long battery life, I haven't run into issues.
Shakiness is an issue with any camera; it has little to do with the camera and more to do with the operator; another reason I always recommend using the viewfinder and not the screen. Using the viewfinder is a more stable approach. If your camera does not have a viewfinder, it is NOT the one listed here.
(third negative listed) Also, there are many chargers available that will fit this camera's charging slot as many other portable devices (such as cell phones) use the same size slot. I use my motorola phone charger on this camera without issue; I also use my car charger on the camera when I am on the road.
I can't comment on the IMac or older PC issue because I have neither.
**Another indication to me that this is NOT a review for the camera listed here: the zoom on the camera listed here is an up arrow and down arrow to the right of the LCD screen that does NOT require you to go into a menu.
There is another review here that mentions going into a menu for the zoom so I have to think that both this review and that one reference a different model and potential buyers should keep that in mind.
Piece 'O Junk.......2007-04-30
We found this camera when looking to get something small and inexpensive for my little girl for Christmas. What sold us on this camera was that it was very tiny, looked like a "real" camera compared to the Fisher Price one being sold for her age, and finally, the price-- $50 at Wal-Mart. The only good thing I can say about this camera is that it is truly easy to use. My daughter can look through the display on the back and point and shoot a picture of any object she wants with ease. But that's the ONLY good thing I have to say about this camera.
Now for the long list of negatives. First, the camera shoots photos in RAW photo format, which then requires use of conversion software that's PRE-INSTALLED ON and RAN FROM THE CAMERA to convert them over to JPEG files in order for the computer to display them. This was an idiotic scheme from the start as JPEG is the universal format. Second, the battery life is non-existent. I'd say after 15 to 20 pictures, the camera needs to be charged again, which brings me to my third complaint. There is no power adapter to charge the camera's battery, so you MUST CONNECT THE CAMERA to a computer to charge it. Taking this camera away from the house and attempting to use it for any length of time is impossible. Fourth, we have an old PC but primarily use our iMac-- especially for storing our pictures due to the fantastic iPhoto software. This camera will connect and show up as a storage device on the Mac, but it doesn't connect and work with iPhoto (unless you've already converted the photos to JPEG by first connecting it to a PC and using the conversion software), nor does the conversion application on the camera work with the Mac platform. I can copy the RAW files from the camera to the computer via drag-n-drop; however, I haven't figured out a simple way of transfering the photos to jpeg format. Fifth, the digital zoom is impossible to use, especially for my daughter, unless you've prepared to use the zoom several minutes in advance of the shot since it must be accessed through the camera's clumsy menu-- my sixth comlaint! Seventh, if you shake the camera, even just a tiny bit, you will ruin the shot. Eighth, the tiny but powerful flash will white-blast the subject in your photo if you aren't the perfect distance away; or it won't even cast a shadow on the subject if you're too far away. I'd say use this primarily for outdoor photos, but remember you can't be away from a USB hook-up for too long or the thing dies.
Why couldn't Philips have just created a product that works. Most of my gripes would be non-existent if not for the damn RAW photo format. When I bought this camera, I had no delusions of my little girl taking award-winning photos with the thing, but she could have learned to take some decent shots if she were able to easily connect and transfer her photos to the computer we use for reviewing pictures. As it stands, she can take photos for as long as the battery will hold, then she must get me to transfer and spend time messing with the photos so that she can see how well she's done. She's happier using my cameraphone for taking pictures, which is what made me consider buying this camera in the first place. Philips-- this camera is way too inconvenient and not a good buy, even at $50.
Perfect for beginners.......2007-04-23
Be advised that, assuming I was shipped the right camera, the picture on this page is slightly wrong. My camera doesn't have a manual viewfinder or lights along the top. Moving on, this camera is perfect for stashing in a purse in case something memorable comes along. It's smaller than a pack of cards, rechargeable, has all the basics (flash, zoom) and, to my delight, has a feature that prevents taking pictures of my pocket. Sure, there isn't a flash button, but switching takes literally 4 seconds and then you can choose auto flash. I took off one star simply because it only charges through a USB port, which can be a problem when travelling. I definitely recommend this camera to someone who wants a reliable camera but admits they're not a photographer.

Barely Functions.......2007-01-16
I bought these for my kids.
Brand new alkaline batteries last only long enough to take 5 or 6 pictures. When I take the battery out after it dies, it is *hot*.
The camera has to pull open to use, but it is so stiff my 9 year could not do it until I worked on it and put wax on to keep the plastic from binding.
The pictures are ok, but I don't expect the kids will ever use them. Every time they try, the battery is dead again.
A real disappointment.

This camera/Mp3/camcorder/webcam/voice recorder is way to good to be true! I brought one because it was cute and looked perfect for mini movies. But I was sadly mistaken... This camera just takes cheap pictures and videos. The only thing that actully worked properly was the voice recorder that I had no need for. After about 3 days of trying to make it work a little better I gave up and sold it on eBay for the same price as I brought it for. It's a great idea... but it just isn't a good camera but if you want a voice recorder this is pretty nice. The Mp3 player isn't all that wonderful either. It doesn't work with iTunes. Or easy work with Windows. Hope this helps... I wish I would have read this before I brought this camera.
Hey, I Guess You Get What You Pay For . . ........2006-12-17
I no longer own my previous and much finer camcorder, so I finally found myself in the market for purchasing some kind of camcorder until I could get back on my feet to get another good one. I thought this one may do, good price, looks sharp, purchased on impulse . . .big NO-NO.
I will say the camera takes decent pictures (as the previous reviews state, almost exclusively outside in broad daylight or indoors with
very good lighting). Other than that, don't bother. The MP3 is a cute
function (and quite possibly the most practical). The video, UHH, let's
not even go there. The voice recorder, also not bad - records in WAV format and can be transferred to PC.
Jack of all trades, master of none . . .I guess that would be the best
way to finally describe this item. I will say that I'll be saving up now
for much better camcorder and no more "I just gotta have this right now"
Save your $, find a quality product - even if you have to pay a little more for it. Trust me, it will be overall better in the long run . . .
Good digital camera, average video camera.......2006-11-08
If you are going to buy this camera, don't count on it to be great. You should only get it if you already have a good video camera. But it is pretty good for taking still pictures. It does have all the features of a nice camera, but the quality is pretty bad. If you are going to buy this camera for the price, its not worth it; just spend another hundred on a better camera. Also, you have to buy a 512mb memory card just to have a little over an hour of film.

Excellent Binoculars, Okay digital camera........2007-05-12
I bought this binocular for the digital camera for a wilderness vacation this summer. I tried it out in my backyard and found that you need a steady hand for the pictures to come out clear. It's a 50/50 chance on a good picture. A tripod would be ideal but impractical if you want to take a quick photo opprotunity. The SD memory card slot is a plus and would suggest getting at least a 512MB. Plan to take lots of pictures so that at least half come out halfway decent. I wouldn't rely on this camera for all your vacation pictures. Bring along your other digital camera for closer up shots. The binocular digital camera takes only far away shots. The LCD is only good for reveiwing pictures. It's hard to see the picture because it jumps around too much. The binoculars are excellent. The magnification is nice and clear and easy to adjust.
Reasonably priced older technology.......2007-02-27
I recently purchased this Megapixel Binocular/Digital Camera for a trip to Maui. This seemed like a nice addition to the 3x zoom limit of my normal digital camera.
It works well, but with limitations:
1. The zoom is fixed at 8x. Ideally this would have the ability to choose a magnification level. On the other hand, if you treat this as a nice set of binoculars with a bonus of a camera, you should be pleased.
2. The small memory card that comes with it is adequate, since 3MP pictures are not very large (~600K).
3. The video mode is useful, but this is not a video camera. It is handy for 30second to one minute videos though that a tourist might like. You will want to purchase more memory if you make heavy use of the video feature since 30seconds is about a 2Meg AVI file. This camera uses the old Sandisk technology which is very reasonably priced, so there is no good reason to not buy it right away.
4. Definitely practice with it before taking photos you care about. My initial photos were poor because it took time to get used to the fixed 8x zoom and the extremely steady hand required to take clear photos at this zoom, especially in near darkness. Later, I found this ideal for the whale watching cruise.
For the price, this is great technology but will quickly be obsoleted as newer digital cameras drop in price and offer adjustable optical zooms of 10x at high resolution.

Cute little gizmo with alot of features for the price. Takes decent pictures. Doubles a an SD card reader. But, and this is the big problem with this little camera, it goes throught batteries at an incredible pace. A high quality alkaline will last no more that 8 hours. When the battery dies, you will loose all your pictures. Except if you use an SD card. If you buy this little toy, be prepared to use lots of batteries, and an SD card to be sure not to loose your photos.

It was a Christmas gift. It didn't work. Contacted the company that you forwarded me to to buy it and they sent me to the manufacturer. Contacted the manufacturer/distributor. I did all this the day after Christmas. The manufacturer STILL hasn't sent a replacement. Keep saying they will but so far nothing, NADA! And they want me to send the broken one back once I get the new one. Told them I'd be glad to if they arranged to pay for the shipping. I'm not blowing another $4 to $5 on an already lousy experience. My daughter returns to college next week and if the camera isn't here by then I'll have to pay to ship it to her. You'd think they could get a working replacement to us in over 3 weeks.
The whole experience has been a waste of time and money so far. And still no sign of a working product. Or notice that it's FINALLY been shipped. I'd stay away from VistaQuest if I were you if this is the kind of product and customer service they give.

I think this camera is a very good deal for the price. It says that the camera will only charge using the computer USB connection but there are many devices, like a lot of cell phones, that have chargers that fit this camera. My Motorola cell phone charger works for this camera, therefore you don't have to always have your computer with you to charge it. Also, the SD card slot is very helpful if you plan on taking a lot of pictures. The internal memory is not much but it worked out for me that it takes the same memory card as my other camera (Panasonic) so I didn't have to go out and buy a new card. I am very pleased with this camera as it takes good quality 3MP pictures. I hope you find this review helpful.
Credit Card Camera.......2007-04-05
If you don't have a computer, don't buy this camera. It has a non removable rechargable battery that charges off a usb port. This thing is the size of a credit card, amazing. I'm pleased with the camera. It can't come close to my much larger Canon A630 in terms of picture quality. But I didn't expect that. I bought it to carry in my pocket to grab a quick shot when I didn't want to tote a larger more expensive camera. Being so small and light, you have to be very steady with it, so as not to blur the shot. At it's highest of three resolution choices it will hold 10 shots in it's internal memory. With a 128 SD card(the largest Philips recomends) it will take 73 shots.
Practical Camera for size.......2007-03-14
Decent Camera for the price. It also charges with cell phone chargers. I found out that my friends cell phone charged my camera (which is good because I use a lot for my son). I bought a memory thing (the ones you put in camera) and it hold MANY pictures like 200 plus I dont remember. I take medium pictures because I dont like the large gigantic ones.

Will never buy anything from Kodak every again.......2007-06-29
I purchased this camera on June 17, 2006. It worked great at first with a big LCD screen and with a memory card I could take what seemed like an unlimited amount of pictures and videos.
However in January when in Disney World, all of a sudden the screen had blue lines across it in every which way and half the screen was black. I called Kodak and explained that I did nothing to the camera to cause this, and they fixed it for me.
And then yesterday the exact same thing happened, again, while I was on vacation. And since it was one week over a year old, the warranty is void and I'm basically screwed, and now I'm wasting my entire day off from work looking for a new one.
In addition, the quality of the pictures even at the highest quality is horrible, as they are blurry and look smeared.
I will never buy another Kodak as long as I live.

Great Buy - 6.1 MP for under $200.......2007-05-24
This camera has all the features you could use for a 6.1 megapixel camera for under $200. Check the customer images. The Santa Cruz shots are mine.
The C643 has a self-timer and various ways to choose the exposure for day/night/close-up/sports, or backlighted shots.
The video works but only in good light. I consider it a bonus since I only bought it for the camera. I also highly recommend using an SD card. A 1GB card will give you about 892 pictures.
I had some warranty work done and it turns out that Kodak does NOT recommend using alkaline batteries. Use the lithium AA's or rechargeables instead. On the plus side, it only took two weeks for the repairs to be done.

Takes beautuiful pictures once u use the right modes at the right time. The zoom is good but limited so if you like taking pics of distant objects this isnt your camera.. For point and shoot pictures.. its very good

Well the first one I had got water behind the LCD while I was vacationing in Cape Cod...and no, it wasnt dropped in water, it was just the humidity. Kodak claimed that I needed to be careful in the future and not bring the camera into an environment where there was a lot of moisture...THANKS! So the camera was replaced with a refurbished one, and this one is driving me nuts.
The first one never had an issue with the Autofocus, but the second one has alot of trouble in low lighting...it cant catch the image in order to focus. Needless to say, Kodak customer service has been good to me. They pay to fix it and send it back promptly. The process is pretty flawless; they even send you emails updating you on the progress. But I will never buy another Kodak camera again. This camera has been a headache. I should have listened to the guy at Best Buy and gone with another brand...he warned me about Kodak cameras.
