I'm positively surprised.......2007-02-23

I had a hard time choosing the right camera, I was between the Cuddeback and this Bushnell 9200, chose this own. Installed 4 normal batteries and it worked great for 4 days then they were dead.
During this time, it worked very well, good response time and good pictures, specially if compared to the price ! The flash range is only about 4-5 yards, same for the trigger distance.
But for this price I'm very happy and will buy more. Will see if I can connect a bigger recharchable battery to it so I can leave it for some weeks unattended.

I put this camera up on a trail where there were many footprints of various types of wildlife. The pictures it took of me as I set it up and walked away were pretty good. That afternoon, it rained. The next day I went to see what if anything the camera had recorded. As I walked up to it, I noticed that the led motion sensor was not flashing, so the camera did not see me. As I got closer, I discovered why. The lens, the flash, and the sensor all had water in them. When I opened the door to check it, water poured out of the unit. I was able to get everything dried out, and it looks like the unit is still working. However, had I not gone out to check on it, I am sure given the amount of water in the unit, it would eventually be ruined. Doesn't "Trail Camera" imply that it is suitable for outdoor use? The strap used to attach the unit to a tree or post is also very poorly done, and does not hold well, but this is an easy thing to fix.

I don't plan on returning it because there aren't many units on the market that have a response time like this one for this price. I am going to find an outdoor rated enclosure to put the camera in, and if you intend on getting this camera, I would recommend doing the same.

Update: 11/27/2006
I left the unit out for another week, placed right next to an area that showed a lot of traffic on the ground. When I went to check on it, it had taken no photos, and it appeared that the battery was nearly dead. There was ample evidence that several animals had walked by, leaving tracks in the mud, but no pictures taken. Battery life of 30 days? Hardly. The camera took 13 pictures over the course of two weeks, and the batteries died. This makes the camera pretty much useless, so it is being returned. Given the large discrepancy between the advertised and actual performance, I won't be looking at any Bushnell products as a replacement.
