Ezonics has combined the worlds of PC video camera and digital still camera with their EZDual. Because it uses USB connections, installation proved simple, although installing the myriad software titles bundled with the camera took a while.

As a PC video camera, the EZDual worked well. Although the first time we video conferenced our frames-per-second rate stayed very low (less than 5 fps), in subsequent uses, the EZDual corrected this, and we had a much more useable 20+ fps. The EZDual worked flawlessly with Microsoft's NetMeeting, allowing us to see and chat with friends and family around the country.

As a still camera, the EZDual offers a lot of nice touches. It can hold up to 20 pictures in its memory at fairly high resolution. It also offers a screw port for mounting on a tripod, a 10-second delay to let you view your own pictures on the camera, and an automatic power-down to save battery life. At only 320,000 pixels, it's not as high quality as some of the other digital cameras on the market, but it gets the job done.

Using a USB connection, it was easy to unplug the camera and take it on the road without any hassles. Once we returned, we simply plugged the camera back in and downloaded our pictures. From there, we had the option of recording and sending video e-mails, video conferencing, and editing our still pictures into photo albums, thanks to the 10 included software titles.

Overall, we were impressed with the EZDual, although the cable connecting our PC's USB port to the camera was a bit short, and there was no monitor stand to hold it in place for videoconferencing (we found the EZDual slipped off the top of a curved monitor). But for the price, the EZDual gives you some good features--if not the best--of both PC video and digital still cameras. --J. Curtis

5 out of 5 stars Pretty cool.......2003-05-19

Inexpensive dual-function camera. Pretty cool when you don't need fancy digital cameras. Doesn't look too stylish, but in person it looks better.

2 out of 5 stars bad service from ezonics.......2002-04-03

I have a new ezonics camera and i cant get it to work with my new computer. I think the problem is with windows xp and the service from ezonics has been very poor to get the problem resolved.

1 out of 5 stars Don't waste your time or money!.......2001-06-16

I first saw a demonstration of this camera on a home-shopping channel. The video image that was shown on the camera was pretty clear and the photo was pretty good as well. I read the reviews on this sight and saw that feelings were mixed on the quality of this camera. I decided to give it a chance since I had seen a "live" demonstration of this camera's abilites and there were some reviews that looked promising. Big mistake! I realize that this is very inexpensive for a product that delivers both a still camera and live video but I feel that with this model "you get what you pay for." Not very much! The still pictures were out of focus and the color was not good at all. The video was extremely blurry and again, the color was bad. I had high hopes for getting a bargain and getting decent quality. No luck! I mainly wanted to use this to take photos of items for auction--this did not have anywhere near the quality that could be used for decent pictures. I bought a Sony Mavica instead. It costs a lot more, but boy do the pictures look clear!

3 out of 5 stars After using for a month........2001-04-21

Using for a month has shown many good qualities and a few bad ones. First the bad ones. The rate is slower than it shows. When larger resolution is used movement along with voice are slower ,and lag behind. The still pics are good. As with all cameras in this price range, When enlarged, quality suffers. But the overall quality looks good to me. If it were in a price range of several hundred dollars it would be disturbing. The overall quality performance are very acceptable to me.The software programs that come with it are to say the least, most satisfactory. I have used a logitech video camera with it's programs, and all functions perfectly. As neither are the "Top of the line" cameras. I would recommend this camera to all who would like a useful and handy camera. For the price,it will be very hard to find another with it's features and software. To be able to use as a VIDEO WEB CAMERA,and also a DETACHABLE STILL CAMERA, ALL IN ONE, is a very hard offer to refuse.

2 out of 5 stars Not what I expected at all!!!.......2001-03-22

I thought the Ezonics EZDual Cam was going to be a great product, but it was not what I expected. The installing of the drivers and software was pretty easy. The software it brought for editing pictures is not very user-friendly and doesn't run very smoothly. I was not happy with the quality of the photos it took nor the quality of the video. The video had a huge delay, you could look at the camera and back at your monitor and you would still be looking at yourself. Plus, every movement is blurred. Forget about moving around!!! As for using it as a camera, not good at all. Again,, blurred!! Whatever you are taking a picture of better be super still and you better put the camera on a tripod because any little movement and the picture comes out blurred. I mainly wanted the camera to take pictures to email to my family, but as bad as the pictures come out, its best to use a regular camera and just scan them.. Very cheap quality!!
