Amazon.com Product Description
The Olympus D-370 boasts a host of excellent features and a compact, clamshell design. Two features that make it stand out are a superbright viewfinder and a newly developed long-life battery circuit. The battery circuit greatly extends battery life, allowing you to capture hundreds of images during normal operation. This 1.3-megapixel camera produces photo-quality 5-by-7-inch prints at 1,280 x 960 pixel resolution. In addition, the D-370 features a movie mode that lets you capture movie clips in QuickTime.
The Olympus focus-free 4.5mm lens (equivalent to 35mm in film cameras) has an all-glass element and aperture range of f4 to f8. The camera is capable of a 4x digital telephoto zoom, but like all digital zooms, this increase in magnification comes at the expense of image quality. The Auto Connect USB port allows for easy connectivity to any PC running Windows Me or newer, or any Mac running OS 8.6 or newer, without the need to install drivers. Since the camera is recognized as a storage drive, transferring images is as easy as copying files to a floppy disk. The 1.5-inch color LCD displays your pictures for easy viewing and reviewing in-camera. In addition to accepting SmartMedia removable memory, the camera contains 2 MB of internal memory for capturing pictures.
The built-in flash features six modes: auto, red-eye reduction, off, fill-in, slow synchronization, and synchronization effect with red-eye reduction. With the optional Olympus LB01 (CR3V) batteries, the camera can last even longer than with the standard four AA alkaline batteries. There are several shooting modes, including sequence (1.3 shots per second), macro, sepia, and black and white. Other features offered are: auto light metering, self-timer, date-data imprinting, and automatic or manual white balance.

Not bad if you're aware of its limitations.......2005-07-25
In 2002, my mom wanted an easy to use camera that took decent pictures. After checking on pricing and quality, I picked the D-370 at Best Buy and a 128M memory card. She's taken THOUSANDS of decent pics with it and I was so impressed on how it worked with the PC (Windows 98 at the time) I bought one for myself. To this this day both are still in use. My D-370 was abused and now the lens is a bit out of focus, so it takes soft pics that are still good enough for the web. Mom's camera still takes pictures so clear, you can see wrinkles, lines, moles on peoples faces (ew) that have to be painted out. A 128M card can hold up to 200+ high-quality images and more if you lower the quality setting.
This camera works best if you do the following:
Bright daytimes pics at any distance
Nighttime pics close up (flash range is five feet or less)
To speak honestly: I used this camera so much I reached its limitations and wanted a new camera when this one died. It hasn't died. I now have a 6 megapixel digital SLR but I use both equally. SLR is versatile but bulky and expensive. D-370 is compact, convenient and still kickin'!
Best bang for the buck.......2002-11-13
I rate this camera 5 stars, not because it's the best camera but it's the best you can get for the money. this is our third digital camera . The first was a cheapo the second was not
but it was not extremely expensive but was high quality with a lot of features. But my wife who takes the pics hated it. She's the point and shoot type. Camera 2 is heavy, has complex controls and eats batteries like mad. I made it worse by buying a power pack that made it heavier and even more inconvenient. Camera 3 is the Olympus D370 and it's a gem. It was inexpensive
even with a 32MB memory card. It's simple to use and takes great pictures. It's only 1.3 MP, but I can print great 8X10s which it isn't supposed to do,and this is done on a BJC-2100 Canon printer, although I have a good Photo printer. We use rechargeable batteries and they last a long time. we are not sophistcated photo people. In fact we're just average senior citzens and it works great for us. On the third try we Highly recomend it for the low budget ,point and shoot crowd.
Awesome Camera.......2002-07-23
This camera is great. I have taken 5 mini-movies (60 seconds each), over 35 photos and the batteries still show as full capacity. The quality of photos can't be beat in this price range.
Great Entry Level Camera For The Price.......2002-07-14
I received this camera as a gift from my boyfriend for X-mas last year. I was geeked! This was my first digital camera and so far I am satasfied with the results.
There are however two complaints:
1)The life of the batteries is low- I suggest purchasing rechargable batteries and a charger to compliment this camera.
2)The quality of night-time pictures is somewhat poor. The pictures come out dark with a lot of red tint to them. I don't recommend using this camera in dark conditions.
I feel that this camera is perfect for someone who is just starting out with digital photography. This camera has inspired me and I have recently just purchased a Sony Cybershot DSC-f707 (I can't wait to try it out!). I am looking forward to my new hobby as an aspiring photographer.
Oh and another thing: the Olympus D-370 is a 1.3 megapixel camera- not a 1.2.
