My mom bought this toy for my three and a half year old son who loves to take pictures. We got it a few weeks before a trip to Florida. He practiced using it (with a little guidance) for a couple of weeks before we left. By the time we met my family in Florida he was a pro.

This is a great toy for teaching kids how to focus on an object. He also got a kick out of getting people posed. It really improved his technology skills (the camera holds up to 60 pictures which you can preview with easy to understand arrow buttons, it allows you to delete pictures, and it has a space for a memory card). He took pictures of half faces etc. at first; and now he knows to patiently wait for the right shot. He is great at centering objects and focusing on the important part of the picture.

We were impressed with the clarity of the pictures. I strongly recommend this gift to any child who is interested in photography. It is a great learning tool.

Incredibly bad quality photos.......2007-06-27

I love the durability and ease of this camera, but the image quality is incredibly bad. I expected it to be mediocre quality, but it's almost impossible to see anything in the really tiny LCD on the back, and the images -- when transfered to a computer -- are awful unless the camera is held very still at all times (not possible for a 5 year old). Even the best shots (by a 40 year old) are hardly worth printing. I'd pay $10 for this toy, but feel ripped off at the current price.

I purchased it one month ago. Up to now, my kid just used it for one time. Yeah,the picture is not so clear, however, at such cost and as a toy,what can we expect it?

My mom bought this for my son and he was so excited when he opened it. The excitement quickly waned (for me anyway) after taking a few pictures. I took a few pictures myself to determine if the poor picture quality was from the camera or from being taken by a 3 year old. When I loaded the pictures onto my computer they were out of focus around the edges and very grainy. This would be a great product if it had higher pixels, hence the overall rating. This is a good item if you don't plan on printing the pictures and just want your child to have a kid-friendly camera of their own.

I bought this camera on a recommendation from a friend. She had bought it for her daughter, and she loved it. My son is always wanting to take pictures with our camera, and so I thought that this might be a good idea.

Well, he loves it. He loves taking the pictures of his baby sister, and took it on a trip to the zoo with his friends. He took pictures of a ton of animals, and could not stop talking about it. All of his friends were tremendously interested in the camera, and everyone wanted a turn. He is also learning how to get people into his picture. He tells them to say "cheese", and waits until people are looking.

The software which you utilize to download is friendly and easy to use. My son already is learning where to click, although I help him connect the camera. He loves the slide shows that can be automatically created with background music (he even had me put the pictures to one of his favorite songs, which was easy to change).

With due respect to those providing criticism, the pictures are blurry because a child is taking the pictures with a low quality camera... probably 1-2 megapixals at best. My son does not seem to care too much if a picture is off center or poor. He is just excited that he took the pictures. The camera is intended for children 3+, so if your child is older or already more focused on quality, she is probably too old for the camera.

Another criticism is that the pictures are tinted... this is not completely true. The photo shows you create MAY automatically tint the pictures, but you can control this by the default shows you pick, or you edit this right out. The underlying picture is never tinted, just the effects of the show.

We have also been lucky, because we have not been plagued with some of the problems that occur, such as poor battery life or lack of durability.

Bottom line, we highly recommend this camera.

When it works, it's great. However each time I go on a research trip to Europe or N America (ie. costing me a lot of cash) an intermittent fault occurs where the image (in still mode or video)drops out the red range, so the recorded image has a blue cast. I am an art historian, so bringing back faulty data is not good for my research. And dealing with Panasonic Australia is a nightmare. Neither the shop, or the repairer, or the company will take final responsibility. I have sent it away twice, and today send it back for another test. Even when you provide them with the hard evidence of the fault, the camera comes back just as it was. Next stop the small claims tribunal...

Problem unit I guess.......2007-03-01

Hi,

I have had the VDR-D300 for about 6 months now. I have never gotten a recording session to last more than about 20 min. The camcorder constantly locks up, usually after about 10 min. This is on a full battery - the unit never gets even to a battery alarm. Several times the reset button nor the reset proceedure per the manual works. I must have a faulty unit. I'm investigating repair. The unit has a great lens, camera, and video image, but my unit is not stable at all.

cool camera.......2007-02-12

This is a great little camera. We had an Olympus 3.2 meg still camera with a 10 time optic zoom and it was a great camera although it was a little slow to focus and had a small LCD. This panasonic is real fast as a still camera and has a much larger LCD It also has a 10 time optic zoom
and doubles as a video camera that record to DVD. It is real easy to use and we love it.What more could you want? Amazon had a great price and you can trust them.

I've tried several other Camcorders and returned them to the store. This Camcorder is easy to use as well as being easy to download to my computer.

Better than the Sony 405.......2007-01-17

The picture quality is exceptional and it is very easy to use. So much nicer than punching the screen for menus like the Sony 405. Who wants to worry about finger prints and scratches all over the screen with those touch screens? It is also priced better than the Sony 405. We researched these cameras a lot before settling on the Panasonic, with picture quality being our #1 objective. We are more than pleased with our purchase!!

This is the first review that I have posted so, I hope that it helps your decision. When I bought the player I expected a fragile player with a so so image. I was wrong. the player is sturdy. the picture is great! If you get this player, mess around with it, before getting confused by the instructions, to find out how everything works. the picture color is adjustable and the sound is great. the only reason that I use headphones is so that people around me don't hear my horror movies.

Great DVD Player for the money!.......2007-04-23

I can't say enough great things about this DVD player! Perfect portability, nice viewing screen, full charge lasts for entire length of most movies - about 2-2.5 hours. Seems very rugged but I would highly recommend a dvd player case just to keep it in prestine condition. I purchased a Targus DVD backpack to carry mine in. Fits quite nicely. I had previously purchased the Coby 7" dvd tablet player and it didn't work at all. Wouldn't read the dvd's (even new ones) and kept making a scratching noise. Needless to say I sent it back right away and bought this one instead. You won't be disappointed. Enjoy!

small but powerful.......2007-04-12

My fiance loves our new camcorder. The zoom works great on this camera, he was able to zoom up on our cats whiskers and see small details. It also works great as a camera. It is very lite weight and portable. The battery has lasted at least 8hours. The video quality once hooked up to a television is excellent. The memory is also huge, you can save quite a bit of video and pictures. The download from the camcorder to the computer was very easy. This is definately a great camcorder for the value.

60 Gig Toshiba Gigashot-Great Convenience, needs light.......2007-03-31

Terrific value, Intuitive features, simple file transfer and excellent software bundle make this a great average consumer video camera. Transferring movies right to DVD via PC is as simple as I've ever seen. Stability control is on the low end of effective and lighting conditions need to be reasonably bright for the picture to have full depth. That's not to say it doesn't video record OK in normal room lighting only that it is not as sensitive as say a Sony video camera (that costs 1/3rd more)

It's just fine.

Pro: A zillion hours of storage, good-enough battery.

Pro: It comes with a cradle.
Con: No other way to interface the harddrive to your computer, no quickie-cable.

Pro: It uses a hard drive
Con: Using the MPEG 2 files in a video editor is hard. The included video editor is SUPER AWFUL, clicking on things results in MINUTES OF FROZEN COMPUTER. Terrible. Am converting videos myself to dv then editing in another app. Am looking at SpeedEDIT too.

Pro: No hardware glitches.

Pro: Comes with a remote. Can take flash photographs with it. Easy and quick on/off.

Con: Its auto focusing is a bit indecisive. v1.0 firmware, japan has newer...Toshiba!!! You think you're focused, then it decides it wants to retry focusing. Much worse in the dark.

Con: UI, while fancy, is tricky to get used to. The rotating wheel thing is fine, but the joystick in the middle of the wheel is a bit too easy to accidentally choose things. Clicking in any direction might bring up, via some swirly special effects, the flash-photograph mode, and the only way to get out of that mode is to press the same direction again, but if you didn't realize you pressed that direction in the first place because it's too-easy to accidentally choose the thing, then you have to futz with it or look at the screen to read the on-screen instruction of how to close that screen.

Definitely worth $450. For $350 you get the 30GB one without the nifty cradle, a steal.
Pro: Sound quality even from the builtin mic is fabulous, spacious.

Not Apple Compatible!.......2006-12-11

This camera seems really nice for the few days that I've had it. However, I am returning it because it is not Apple compatible. I-movie cannot edit the mpeg-2 files the camera creates so all the images are not editable. You can only watch them on an apple computer if you purchase a quicktime upgrade from apple, but the third party work-around that allows you to convert the mpeg-2 file to mpeg-4 results in a totally unacceptable degradation of image quality. I believe the Sony hard disk cameras have the same problem.
