Crapped out on me........2005-07-04
Sure enough, I tried to get away cheap, and got bit in the you-know-where for it. Three months after buying it, the card is unusable. The lifetime guarantee? You need the original packaging and receipt. I suppose I can only really blame myself for not saving it all, but hey, it was a well reviewed $20 card, right? So now it's a holiday, with everyplace closed, and I have no flash card. You get what you pay for.
DO NOT BUY FROM AMAZON.COM.......2005-03-27
Better cards are available from other retailers - just check epinions.com - you will find a whole bunch for $19 or less. Also they deliver, while Amazon does not. The item has label "usually ships in 24 hours", but I have waited 5 (five !) days, and still it was not shipped. Do not buy this card, and check other place than Amazon. The Amazon stinks...
Fantastic card - unbeatable price.......2004-11-23
I bought this SimpleTech card in early 2003 and have had great results with it. I have shot over 34,000 pictures on it using my Canon PowerShot G3. I use it extensively with my Dell X5 PDA. For the last month, I have been using it in my new Nikon D70 (over 5000 pictures so far from that). I originally paid about $60 for this card.
The card has never failed me. I have given it extreme use. I also have a 256 MB Sandisk card (it failed me once, and I had it replaced under warranty) and a 256 MB Viking card. I had read a review that the Viking card may not be compatible with the G3, so I never used it in that camera. I used the Viking card only in my Canon Powershot S400. However I did use all three cards in my PDA and in the S400. I have used the SimpleTech and the Sandisk both in my D70, as well as a new Sandisk Ultra II 1 GB card.
By comparison, the Sandisk 256 MB card was definitely the slowest when performing the same tasks. It could not keep up with mp3 playback on my PDA. It has noticibly slower write times for photos on my cameras, especially the G3. The SimpleTech and the Viking cards perform about the same as each other. Neither has noticeable slowness on my PDA. Photo write times on the G3 were acceptable with this SimpleTech card. It really did not cause a delay in shooting dut to waiting for pictures to write to the card.
Interestingly, on the D70, this SimpleTech card still keeps up well. The D70 has an advanced buffering system that can hold several (about 12 at normal quality full resolution) images while writing them to the card. This is so much buffer that rarely so I have the need to exceed this many shots in one burst. Thus, when I am using the SimpleTech card, it really does NOT slow down my shooting at all.
By comparison, I do notice that the D70 finishes writing pictures to my ULTRA II card sooner, especially after a burst of several frames. (based on the blinking light that indicates CF card activity) I really never have the need to shoot a continuous burst of frames all the way to a full 256 MB card.
My conclusion is that this 256 MB SimpleTech card is just about the best way to go for CF memory currently. It will cost you less to buy 4 of these (1 GB) than to buy one 1 GB Ultra II card. And then, if you have one of these fail, you will not be out of memory at a crucial time - because you have 3 other cards to use. And you would be able to get a replacement for the failed card later at your convenience.
I highly recommend using multiple smaller cards over single larger cards. 256 MB is my size of choice, and this is my choice among inexpensive 256 MB cards. At the current price (around $20 at the writing of this review) you can't go wrong!
Reliable and fast.......2004-09-07
I have been using this 256MB card for an year now on two of my Canon digital camera and a Casio PDA. It has always been reliable and there is no diminishing in storage capacity. Read and write are slightly faster than my San disk 256MB.
Excellent for Canon Digital Elph S230 .......2004-08-24
I don't know what happened with an earlier reviewer, but my SimpleTech CF card works perfectly with my wife's Canon Digital Elph (Powershow S230). Never had any problems using it in my Minolta Dimage 7u either.
'Normal' SimpleTech cards consistantly write faster than other makers CF cards that are "High-Speed", 16x or whatever faster.
CF card speeds do vary depending on make and model of camera. My Dimage 7 writes a 5 megapixel image faster than my Powershot writes a 3.2 megapixel image. So any specific number given for read/write speed is relative and not absolute.

Does not exhist.......2006-02-17
I had to order this product twice because the reader did not come with the first order. After it came the second time without the reader I was told I would have to get a refund because Amazon really does not sell this item as listed. I wasted a lot of time. This needs to be discontinued from being advertised because the ad is decetive

Product Description
CompactFlash is the world's smallest removable mass storage device. CF cards are designed with flash technology, a non-volatile storage solution that does not require a battery to retain data indefinitely. CompactFlash storage products are solid state, meaning they contain no moving parts, and provide users with much greater protection of their data than conventional magnetic disk drives. They are five to ten times more rugged and reliable than disk drives including those found in PC Card Type III products. CF cards consume only five percent of the power required by small disk drives.SimpleTech offers this card for digital camera-camcorders Canon EOS-1Ds, Minolta Dimage 7Hi, Samsung DigiMax 350s/350se; and PDA-handhelds Panasonic ToughBook 01 206MHz StrongARM SA-1110, Toshiba Genio e550G 400MHz X-Scale.
Customer Reviews:
This is a package of 2!!!.......2004-05-07
Hey! I have been using these SimpleTech 256 MB compact flash cards and they are great! By the way THIS IS A PACKAGE OF 2 CARDS, so if you thought the price was expensive, think again!! I have these cards, and I have two of the SanDisk 256 MB (regular - NOT ultra II or Extreme) cards. These SimpleTech cards are MUCH faster than the SanDisk cards. I also have one the Viking 256 MB card. It is almost as fast, but I must say that the SimpleTech cards win for speed. I use them all with the Lexar Media 6-in-one USB 2.0 card reader (ASIN B00008RW8B), which is excellent. It takes about 12 minutes to move the contents of one SanDisk card to the HardDrive, while the contents of a full SimpleTech card can be copied in 5 minutes, and the contents of a full Viking card in about 6 minutes.
I have shot over 20,000 pics on a Canon G3 in the last year using these cards. I had one card failure with a SanDisk card, and it was replaced under the warranty. It wasn't too much trouble to get the replacement, but I'd rather not have the failure in the first place.
One more thing - You'd definitely rather have two 256 MB cards than one 512 MB card, in case of failure. That way, you still have something to take pics on if you are in a place where you can't get a replacement quickly. I always have 3 to 5 cards with me, so when one failed, it wasn't too much of a problem. Also, although I don't speak from first hand experience, I have heard that these baseline cards from all the companies perform faster in the 256 MB sizes than in the 512 MB sizes.
You won't notice a speed issue with anything less than a 4megapixel camera, either. I have shot with dozens of digital cameras from 2 to 6 M-pixels and the only thing that slows you down under 4MP is the camera buffer/cache itself. At 4MP and above, especially with the faster cameras, the card speed can become an issue. But, for example, this card can still keep up with the Nikon D70, although I hope to get some high-speed cards for that cam.
Of course, regardless of the camera speed, the slower cards can still make you wait longer while downloading the images to the computer. If you still use USB 1.1 (12 kBps), then don't worry about card speed. But if you use USB 2.0 (480 kBps) or firewire (400 kBps), card speed will make a difference, as I outlined above.
Hope this helps you!
