Good most of the time.......2007-07-02
For the most part this printer/scanner has been pretty good. No problems at all with the scanner, although I'm not crazy about the software interface for the scanner. My previous scanner was a HP which had more convenient software.
After about a year I began having a problem with the paper skewing, not enough to jam up but enough to be obvious on the printed pages. Epson support was good and sent a replacement, which was a refurbished unit, but I did not like it and returned it. After I hooked mine back in again and made sure the paper guide was snug to the paper I had no more skewing issues.
My main beef is the tendency to require frequent head cleanings, which wastes ink in all 4 of the cartridges. I feel if the printer can monitor each level separately, and the whole printer won't work if one cartridge is empty, then Epson should be able to design it to clean just the color cartridge experiencing the problem.
Print quality is good, but I don't think it comes near the advertised 20 b/w and 19 color pages per minute.
I've had no problems with photos.
No Driver for Intel-based Macs?!.......2007-05-18
Great printer/scanner--when it works. (The CX7800; I apparently wrote another review on the CX6000 page by mistake?!) Does suck ink... but I was able to print 150 full-color letter-size Xmas cards without replacing cartridges for another week afterwards. I am on my second CX7800--the first died after a simple paper jam. The current problem is: I have since upgraded from a Mac G4 to a MacBook Pro Intel-based laptop, and have spent HOURS installing/uninstalling re-downloading, resetting, restarting, etc. to make the recommended "driver" for this printer work, but IT DOES NOT SHOW UP!!! Now I wonder if it really even exists? Epson Support only repeats its same incomplete instructions without addressing the issue. I give up... and am on the lookout for a better solution from any OTHER company. Epson had its chances... and did not deliver.
Great Printer.......2007-04-17
I bought this printer because it was the lowest cost one I could find that makes prints fron 35 MM slides, which it does very well indeed. In spite of the several reviews I've read that pan it's print quality it makes great ones for me. It is a bit slow but but that's no problem for me as it does an excellent job of quality printing and copying plus having a slide capability.
It is also a snap to operate. It's an amazing bargain at the $100 I paid.
Zero Stars For Epson.......2007-04-10
My first Epson Stylus the print heads went out 2 weeks before the warranty ran out (fortunately for me). Tech Support (my dime) was real helpful, sent me out a replacement Fed Ex and they didn't want the old one returned to them. Because I only had a couple of weeks on the warranty, they explained that the warranty on the replacement would only be good for 30 days and they suggested I buy an extended warranty for $25, which I did. Replacement printer arrived and it was obviously a used, scratched up piece of work that didn't work from the very beginning, and no ink to get it set up. It refused to take the paper in. Either got the Out of Paper code or Paper Jam code. There was paper loaded and it never even took the paper down in the printer to get it jammed. Called Tech Support (my dime) got an apology and they were sending out another replacement immediately Fed EX. They don't want the old one back. What about that extended warranty? Well that's transferable and all I had to do was call the warranty service and give them the new model number when it arrives. Next replacement arrives (no ink to get it set up). I call to transfer the model number and the support guy was rude, refused to let me transfer it, told me the person I talked to was wrong and I asked him to speak to a supervisor to help me get a solution to my problem. He was as high as I was going to go (said he). There was nothing I could do but purchase another extended warranty. I gave him the name and reference numbers of all the people I had spoken with and was told that he hadn't heard of any of those people. I gave the phone number I'd called & spoke to them, he said there was no such number. When I informed him that it was the number I reached HIM at he said he never called himself at work so had no idea what the number was. The good news was, this was what got me turned over to a supervisor, "David." David was great, fixed me up, apologized to me and life was good. Until today. Once again this replacement printer refused to take the paper in and gives the same codes. I call Tech Support (my dime) the guy asked me the same question 12 times, repeated my answers 12 times and finally, after 35 minutes, I mention we weren't getting anywhere could I speak to a supervisor. He suddenly kicks into gear and says because I'm under warranty they'll send one out immediately Fed Ex all he needs is a credit card number to charge the replacement too and when I return the old one they'll take it off my CC. I told him they've never done this before and I've never given anyone my CC info before. He insisted that this was how it is done and repeated that he needs the info and he'll ship it right out. I tell him I won't give out my CC information without speaking to a supervisor and he hangs up on me. I call tech support again (my dime) and get a real nice gal who's very helpful I'm getting a replacement Fed Ex'd out immediately. I ask if it will come with ink and she assures me all their replacements come with full ink cartridges. She was sending me out a new used printer so I wasn't going to fuss with her.
The time frame of this entire story? One year. Right now I have 3 dead Epson printers in my basement, 2 of them have full brand new ink cartridges in them. I suppose I'm going to tough out my extended warranty, I can't wait to see what they send me next. Everyone I talked to had such heavy accents I can barely understand them, which makes the long distance call longer and the conversation is a communication struggle. Oh, and nobody knows who the heck "David" is. They all say there's service centers in many areas so nobody knows the name of anyone anywhere else to confirm your information.
Never again will I buy any Epson product.
Do NOT buy this printer........2007-03-28
This printer is good if you're going to be printing documents, but don't waste your money. This printer's scanner sucks, I haven't printed out photos yet, but that's the reason why I bought it (for the scanner). I've only had this printer for about a month, and I've only scanned once, and then the scanner would not work. I would get a page filled with gray lines. DO NOT BUY THIS PRINTER. [...]

Customer Reviews:
Extremely high ink usage.......2007-06-13
I've been using Epson printers for quite a while for my business. I must have bought 20 Epson printers from the C-80 to the CX-6600. I'm sad to say that I cannot recommend this printer at all after having purchased 2 units. The ink usage is so poor that it shocks the senses. I'm going through a color cartridge after about 30 sheets of moderate color printing. This is unacceptable. Don't be fooled by the printer's low initial price. Unless you use this printer very infrequently, you'll end up paying a lot more then with another manufacturer.
I have some more gripes:
(1) You can only purchase the number 68 high-capacity black ink from the Epson online store. This is insulting to consumers. The regular capacity ink you can buy from Staples ends up costing almost twice as much per page then the number 68 high-capacity.
(2) The Epson online store has the worst customer reps I've encountered in years. They barely understand a word of English and you need to waste a lot of time communicating with them. I have nothing against offshore support personnel in general. I have found them to be generally competent and in the past few years much improved in their communication abilities. Sadly, Epson must have gone for the lowest cost support they could find.
Needless to say, I won't be buying Epson in the future.
NO NO NO.......2007-05-18
the ink cartridges haven't even lasted me a month, and now 3 colors are out!! The scan function doesn't work either.
stay away from epson
No Driver for Intel-based Macs?!!.......2007-05-18
Great printer/scanner (the CX7800--don't know where CX6000 came from all of a sudden!)--when it works. Does suck ink... but I was able to print 150 full-color letter-size Xmas cards without replacing cartridges. I am on my second CX7800--the first died after a simple paper jam. Very Good Printer.......2007-05-14
I just used this printer over the weekend to scan and print some photos. Very easy to use. I liked that after a picture is cropped, the print feature still allows you to expand it to a full page. I was surprised at how the printer jumped when feeding the paper; but, for a $100 you can't go wrong. I'm going to buy one to replace my Epson 600 that finally quit working after 10 years.
Good printer.......2007-05-12
It prints good copies and nice pictures, but the ink volume display is wrong. I works quite fast and fairly quite. Copies are quick and it takes very little time to warm up. I wish it had a copy lighten/darken feature though.
