Wide Compatibility

Slots for digital camera memory cards in several formats

The PictureMate prints JPEG or TIFF photos from any USB digital camera and is compatible with both Mac and PC operating platforms. A wide variety of card types are also accepted, including CF Type I and II, SmartMedia, Sony Memory Stick/MemoryStick PRO, Duo (requires adapter), SD, MMC, and xD-Picture.

The printer initially comes with a starter photo cartridge and 20 sheets of paper. Thereafter, you'll purchase PictureMate Print Packs, which contain 100 sheets of paper and a photo ink cartridge with an approximate 100-page yield.

The prints resist water, smudging, and most notably fading. Epson estimates an archival lifetime of up to 200 years if the photos are kept in a relatively dark place (such as a photo album) or up to 100 years in a frame (see Epson's web site for details). True borderless printing (or bordered, if you prefer) combined with sturdy stock help to give your prints a professional look and feel. A cartridge level indicator lets you know how much ink you have left.

What a Disaster.......2007-05-17

I was so excited to get this printer for Christmas but then.....First of all, it won't print the entire picture - it always crops around the edges. Secondly, you can buy brand new ink but you only get about 10 good picture out of a cartridge and then it throws you error messages and tells you to buy a new cartridge. Thirdly, if you don't use it everyday, the ink nozzel has to be cleaned about 10 times before it will print your picture with true colors. The was such a waste of $200.00 dollars. I should have just bought a better printer for my computer. Epson really made a poor product with this picturemate printer. Beware - if you buy you will only be disappointed. Best Buy won't even sell them anymore.

Not worth the time or money.......2007-02-18

This picturemate has been a total disaster. After printing just a few pictures the color on the photo turns to pink and yellow. Put in a new cartridge and it will work for a few photos and then the color turns funny again. Not only does it not print many photos with a true color image, but it is slow and the cartridge runs out of ink after a couple dozen photos. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS PRODUCT!

PictureMate Printer.......2007-01-10

I loved my PictureMate for about two years. It made great pictures and I used it frequently. After using it for about two years, it needs to have the heads cleaned almost every time I use it. It is not as much fun to use when you have to remember to do that every time. My daughter had this problem with hers from the beginning.

Prints great pictures when heads are not clogged up.......2006-12-10

Inkjet printers have never been a personal favorite of mine. Since the early days of inkjet printers, the quality of printouts they generate never impressed me. As photo printers came into the market, I never felt they were a worthy replacement for traditional photo prints.

Having said that, the quality of prints from the PictureMate is very impressive. At a passing glance, you cannot distinguish these prints from professional photo lab prints. Crisp, colorful pictures print crisp and colorful. The stipple ink patterns are still there but much less pronounced that your typical tri-color inkjet printer.

My only complaint is with the tendancy of this printer's print heads to clog up. With my printer, it happens rather frequently. Sometimes when printing a series of photos, a photo will land in the output tray faded out. After that I try printing a nozzle check page. Half the lines in the test pattern are colored smears, indicating clogged print heads. Why does this happen after it had just printed a perfect print? I cannot leave a large print job alone for fear of the nozzles suddenly ruining prints and wasting paper.

The printer's nozzle cleaning utility doesn't always work on the first try. Sometimes it takes three or four cycles to clear up the problems. Of course, this wastes valuable ink as the printer uses ink from the cartridge to shoot through the nozzle to clean it. After owning this printer for a couple of years, I've yet to be able to use all 100 sheets of photo paper with the Photo pack.

I'd like to think this is an atypical issue but my long history with Epson printers, both personally and professionally as an IT expert, this is a common problem all Epson printers have. Designing a printer with fixed print heads, as almost all Epson printers are, is a good way to make cartridges less expensive. But without a way to replace troublesome print heads as the ones I have, all you have is a paperweight that plugs into your computer and wastes paper.

If you can get past these issues with the Epson PictureMate, they're great printers and you will love the quality of prints it can produce.

This review was put off for too long.......2006-11-26

This printer has been a piece of garbage since the day I bought it. I don't know why I kept trying, as the purchase was made about a year ago. It should have been thrown it in the trash long ago and I would have cut my losses (instead I did buy one more package of paper and ink. Mistake.) I have never gotten more than one picture in a row without an error message, turning the printer off, turning it back on, doing that several times, and finally maybe getting it to print two pictures in the same day.

Now it says the cartridge should be replaced, when about 20 minutes earlier it told me there were approximately 56 pictures left in the cartridge (and I have not printed anywhere near 44 pictures, which would add up to the claim of 100 per cartridge. I have printed about 6.)

The ironic thing is, the handful of pictures that have printed correctly have been beautiful. The one that I printed today was perfect. But several tries to print one more picture were a waste of about two hours. This is the last time I try to use the printer, it is finally going in the trash.

Cartridges don't last.......2007-04-23

I am happy with this printer as long as the cartridge is new...I'm only getting about 40 good pictures from each cartridge. I have completed all the maintenance, but I cannot use the pictures that are printing. I'm considering a new printer purchase - and it won't be an Epson!

no flip-up lcd.......2007-03-13

from the specs, it apprears the only real difference between this and the slightly more expensive "picture mate deluxe viewer edition personal photo lab" is the deluxe viewer. this model doesn't have one as far as i can tell.

is that worth the difference in price? probably, because being able to look at your photos in the printer before you print them is a big asset in a printer that can print directly from a memory card. i guess you could preview them in-camera, but then you'd be wasting battery charge. sort of defeats the purpose if you ask me.

on the plus side, to get epson quality for such a low price--the printer costs a little over 1/2 as much as an ink cartridge--is a fantastic value for the money. i own the deluxe model (see my review there) and i'm generally happy with it, although the faults of that one are well-documented: clogging ink, cropped edges, borders unless perfectly aligned, limited to one print size, etc.

Still, if everything is the same except for lcd, than this model is an excellent, maybe even unbelievable, deal at this price. you probably can't get better quality prints for less, but you can almost certainly pay more. i'd definitely give this as a gift (and look like i spent a whole lot more than i did), but for myself, it made more sense to get the viewer version.

if you really want "pro" photos or multiple print sizes, you're gonna need to get a high-end printer, but for stunning hi-contrast snapshots at better-than-drugstore quality in the comfort of your own home, the PictureMate series comes through.

Better than the photo lab.......2006-11-21

I've had this printer for almost a year, printed a little over 100 photos. I'm STUNNED at the quality of this little printer. I have been a film user holdover for many years, but my wife got a new 6 megapixel camera and this printer was part of the bargain. Well, I've hung up my 35mm and purchased my own digicam. Combined with this printer, I get photos that are clearly superior to the photo lab. Dynamic range between light and dark, dark and darker, the richness and vibrancy of color, and the detail is nothing short of incredible. I have purchased several photo printers over the years and still used film. Until now. My only complaint with this printer is that the picture paper will cock very slightly when printing, so I get a small white line along part of the long edge. For my purposes, this is not a deal breaker, the prints are that exceptional.

The Epson PictureMate Color Ink and Paper Pack is so easy to use, every picture looks as great as from a photolab. I have found that the ink lasts longer than the 100 sheets of paper, so you may want to pick up an extra pack of photo sheets. The first ink cartridge printed around 120 photos. The Epson PictureMate Delux is a great little printer.

Great pictures, cheated on cartridge ink .......2007-06-04

First of all the printing cant be beat. But on the down side I just ordered my first package from Amazon and after installing, the digital ink monitor on the screen only show about 80% full. Hope I get my 100 pictures.

This print pack MAY NOT BE COMPATIBLE with the PictureMate 200 series printers. If you have a PictureMate Pal, Snap, or Flash printer, you should order EITHER T5846 for 150 glossy prints OR the T5845-M for 100 matte prints.

If the box does not specifically say that it is for PictureMate Series 200 printers (Pal, Snap, and Flash) such as the T5846 or T5845-M packs - DON'T BUY IT! You will end up with the wrong size cartridge. T5570, T5570-M, and "270" cartridges are not compatible with the PictureMate 200 series.

good for photos.......2007-05-07

you need ink and photo paper to print pictures. This comes with ink and photo paper! I know how much ink is left by how many pages of paper are left - it works out nice. for photos. I don't know why anyone would want to read a review about photo ink and paper but amazon keeps sending emails prompting me to submit a review.
