Great printer! Easy Setup. Did exactly what I wanted........2007-06-18

I purchased this printer to use on a wireless network so that everyone in the house would have a printer available to them without having to use a printer share on a particular computer. It took about 20 minutes from the point that I opened the box till the printer was working on my wireless network. I configured the printer by connecting it to my router using an Ethernet cable and then pulled the Ethernet cable off and it worked like a charm. My only complaint about the install was that the installer is sometime misleading about when it has completed a task.

As far as the printer goes, It has been working great although the automatic duplex printing slows her down significantly but single sided printing is very fast.

After using monochrome laser printers for the better part of 8 years or more, I finally decided to go with something that had color capabilities, fast printing, and networking capabilities. The 6980DT does all of that in addition to having the automatic duplexing mechanism that comes with the DT version of the printer. This allows you to make 2 sided prints without having to remove the pages, and manually flipping them and then hitting continue. My last laser printer, a Lexmark E232 would do duplex printing, but only in manual mode, and it was a 50-50 chance at getting it right, depending on what program you were using to print. In addition to the auto duplexing feature, the 6980DT also has built in wireless capability as well! Works like a charm with my Linksys wireless router from anywhere in the house.

The additional 250 page paper tray also comes in handy with multi-page documents. I have printed many pages so far and the ink levels are still more than half full.

For the price and features, you'd be very hard pressed to find an auto duplexing, color printer with wireless built in for the money!

This is my 5th HP printer in the last 10 yrs; I did such HEAVY printing that I WORE THEM OUT!! To me, that sure speaks well of the HP product.

Installation was hard like lots of you said, but the HP tech was happy to walk me through it & unload the excessive software included.

Like so many who've had older printers, I too miss the larger ink cartridges, yet I was surprised at how much they gave me: these didn't wear out until after 2 months of heavy "Best" mode use, which on any machine will always take the most ink. They'll last lots longer as I'm now ready to use more on "normal" & "fast draft"(true, "fast draft" DOES sacrifice color quality, but I think that's best designed for text, which still comes out well).

I love using the duplexer! Yeah, it slows print speed, but I'd prefer that vs. 1 wasted side. And I don't have to "babysit" this machine; I can trust it to do the job right while I'm busy with other things.

HP's got another happy customer with this 6980DT printer!

Have had the printer for about a month now. Was very easy to set up wireless and this was the main reason for the puchase. Print quality is good, but have not used the printer for pictures yet. It seems to be a good printer for the price. I have another 3 in 1 HP printer hooked into my docking station but this is much more convienient to use.

The printer is above average once you get it set up and running. The reason I didn't rate it higher is that the new HP install programs are horrible - absolutely the worst I've seen in years - bloated, buggy, and a general pain in the neck.
One minor problem with the printer operation is that it seems to have trouble automatically recognizing that it has a lower paper tray. The only way I could get it to work was to change the Printer Properties "Source is" from Automatically Select to Upper, then lower. Unfortunatlely doing this in the Printers and Faxes window doesn't seem to work for all apps. Some have to be configured individually.
