There are lot of negative ratings for this. Few things to remember about this printer. If you are using non Epson ink, it is going to clog the print head. Catridges will show empty while there is ink to prevent ink from completely drying out in print head. Most of the users how use this printer with compatible ink or thoese who reset the chip to make the printer think there is ink in the cartridge end up destroying a very expensive printer. When you buy a expensive printer like this, you might as well spend the money for proper ink and get the best quality print outs.

I received this printer as part of a package deal when buying my laptop in 2003. I previously owned an epson 740 which I had very little problems with and used to print my entire graphic design portfolio. Up until owning this printer I was a diehard Epson fan. Nevermore quote the graphic designer. I have to agree with all the other reviews on here. It sucks ink like kool-aid, claims cartridges are empty when they still have ink left and the print heads consistently clog. I just spent $78 replacing ink cartridges only to find out that it still won't print a single thing despite having had a dozen or more cleanings. Not sure what Epson's deal is but the quality of their products just keeps getting worse and worse!

This printer uses far too much ink, won't print when any cartridges are empty, and as others have noted, will indicate that cartrdiges are empty when they still have ink in them. A total ripoff.

I only write reviews if something is very bad. This printer COMPLETELY SUCKS! Do not buy it and avoid Epson all together. In fact avoid all Ink Jet printers. Get your photos printed at Walgreens or Target and but a $75 laser printer, you will thank me.

THis is just not Epson. It is EVERY ink jet manufacturer. There is some kind of bizarre monopoly using patents, copyright infringement etc... to continue this anti competitive situation. Look into HP profit sheet and you will see the bulk of the company profits come from the printer division. THis supposedly great company gets most of its profits from gouging the consumer. Some company. I bought new cartridgesfor this Epson C84 yesterday and they were seventy eight dollars retail!!!! WTF! Then I found out it was a clog.

I saw some citations that a Gallon of this ink (think a gallon of milk or gasoline for comparison) would cost over $1000 and it would cost a 6 BILLION dollars to fill upa swimming pool with ink.

Completely and utterly insane and I am done with it. At least as sooon as I go "Office Space" on this printer. Watch the movie and you will se what I am talking about.

As for all ink jet manufacturers, I give you all a big FU and hope all your companys die the miserable death that they deserve...So much for American innovation!

I just spent $60 on the pack of color and black ink. When I went to replace the "empty" cyan cartridge I shook it and there was still a lot of ink in there. I don't know how Epson can get away with this. I will buy a new printer when these inks run out and am never buying Epson again!

I am pleased with the Epson factory branded original Dura-Bright ink cartridges. I'm not pleased with the price Epson charges for their cartridges, but... let me say that I have two printers, the C86 and a CX6600. On previous printers {not these two} I tried shortcuts to save money on ink costs. I tried refilling my own cartridges, which ended up costing a lot of time and money to accomplish, and was only marginally successful. I also tried buying recycled and non-branded cartridges. They never seemed to work in my printers very long without some sort of printing problems. Over the years, I probably tossed out ten reams of printing failures due to inkjet cartridge failures because of these feeble attempts to save money. Finally, I decided to just close my eyes, use the factory inks and pay the price. I have not had a single printing failure since. Not even one failure in two years. I'm convinced that in my case, the factory inks are the best answer to trouble free printing. Also, the Dura-Bright inks seem to work the best on my glossy paper.

I got an Epson Stylus C-84 printer for free with my Mac a couple of years ago. Since then, I've probably cussed at that printer more than I've cussed at any inanimate object in my life. The ink is WAY TOO EXPENSIVE! And it dries out and clogs the printheads like crazy. I clean and clean and clean the printheads and the printing gets WORSE! And cleaning uses ink! And the ink is expensive! It's a horrible, horrible circle of frustration. I just bought a Canon Pixma MP600 printer and can't wait to hook it up. But I'm waiting until the Epson's ink runs out before I do it. I want to use it all up because I don't want to waste any money. And when the ink runs out??? I'm gonna kick that Epson printer from here (near Detroit) to California. EPSON PRINTERS AND INK ARE HORRIBLE! DON'T LET THEM DRAIN YOUR WALLETS ANYMORE!!

Replacement inks are very expensive and only last a short time. The high capacity replacement cartridge is very reasonably priced, lasts much longer and shipping is free! I no longer buy my ink at BM shops. Amazon is great, no tax no hassle. My only gripe is how long it took to arrive at my door step, but then again, shipping was free.

I'm glad I found this product online and didn't have to pay the average price for it because it's not worth it.

It would be nice if Epson or the makers of this ink would find a solution to the clogging problem. If I don't use my printer at least once a week, the ink gets clogged and I have to run the "cleaning software" and waste half the ink to get it to print properly.

Not a cost-effective product.

Got this lousy product bundled with a computer purchase and tried to use it sparingly but regularly. Yellow cartridge stopped working when still 1/3 full and so print head cleanings were attempted. Each head cleaning consumes about 1/8 of the ink, but I was able to print two more pages. Bought all new cartridges and installed them all at once according to instructions - printed one page black and magenta, then nothing at all. Repeated all head cleaning/test print and alignment tests until the ink was supposedly depleted - although none ever made it to a page. Installed my last set of ink cartridges and still nothing.

Total number of pages printed during the product's lifetime: 25 pages text + 16 Photos. Total average cost per page considering original purchase price + two additional sets of ink cartridges: Greater than $5 per page or photo! This product is only good for use as a prop when reenacting the "fax in the field" scene from the movie Office Space.

Epson maintains a high quality ink and cartridge design. The inks don't fade or clog up the printer nozzles. I caution those that use after-market refill cartridges that are not Epson Brand....My last printer was ruined by using a clone brand in an attempt to save a few bucks.

I don't know if the cartridge is dry, but it is not printing properly, unlike the previous cartridges we bought from you.

Use original Epson Brand ink, the heads in the epson printers it's in the printer itself not in the ink cartridge, it dosent worth saving some dollars and ruing the printer.

The cartridges leak, the Epson printer noticed that they were not true Epson. The colors are faded and not true. Pay the price for Epson and be happy. I learned my lesson.

It should be noted that these are dye based inks, not pigment based inks, like the original manufacturer's inks (Epson's DuraBright ink). Supposedly this means they won't last as long. Research suggests they might be better from the perspective of clogging print heads, which I've read is a chronic problem on the printers that use the Epson DuraBright inks.

That aside, the cartridges seemed reasonably manufactured, and to the extent that the printer was working (it's a used model that needs the print head cleaned) they seemed to work OK.
