Here's how to reset the toner cartridges to fully use them up........2006-11-29
The 2300 Konica Minolta printer has performed well for me. My only real issue with it is the silly cutoff page print counter which seems to require changing cartridges. But the simple way around this is to reset the silver flag on the cartridge end. This is done by carefully prying back the ratchet stop, a little shaft of plastic, which is seen through a sort of "D" shaped hole on the end of the cart, with a small screwdriver, and rotating the white plastic gears till the silver tab retracts. If it doesn't retract rotating one direction, go the other. Once it bottoms out, which doesn't take much rotation, it's reset and the 2300 will see it as a new cart. Voila, you're back in business. There's usually a good bit of life left in the cart.
Great Printer For Windows Platform But Not Mac Friendly.......2006-10-07
Ignore the gripes. This is a great economical printer for a windows desktop or network. It is not equipped for the MAC out of the box and patches must be installed on the MAC to make it work. Even with the patches, it does not print perfectly from a MAC but it works ok. Apart from the Mac frustration (my own fault for failing to understand the limitation up front) this printer has performed flawlessly for over two years. Four stars because MAC drivers were not made available by Konica or Minolta, otherwise five stars.
Good and Bad.......2005-10-17
Alright, I use this printer at our school. Don't print much, just flyers and envelopes mostly. We have owned it for 2 years. Luckily the printer went bad before the warranty ran out and the company replaced the whole printer. The first one screaked liked a bunch of squirrels in a cage and so did the new one. Everyone always comments of the sound when it prints. The good thing is the quality of the printouts. You can prints vivid photos and great-looking colorful brochures and the footprint for this model is quite small, taking up a corner of a large desktop. Considering that we got the printer for $299 after a huge rebate, so I guess that I can't complain too much since that barely more than some inkjet printers. If you are looking at buying this model look for the newer ones, I hear they improved them greatly.
The Pinto of Printers.......2005-08-26
What's the difference between a Pinto and a Minolta QMS 2300 DL? The Pinto will last ten times longer than the Minolta. If you buy this printer, you need to hope that it breaks down before the warranty is up or you will be stuck with a pice of junk. Mine was perfect for one year but is on it's last legs after a year and a half. Minolta refuses to fix a known issue with the paper feed because it is out of warranty. Unfortunately the known issue didn't start until the warranty expired. If I print once it has gone into sleep mode, the first page starts 1" or so too far down the page. Then for every page after that, I have to take the paper out of the tray, turn it over and put it back in before the printer recognizes that there is paper in the tray. Print quality has taken a nose dive as well. I am still on my second toner cartridge for cyan and my third for magenta, yellow and black. Judge for yourself. If you want a printer to last longer than this, buy something else.
Good value and you can print when it says "Toner Empty".......2005-03-29
I bought this printer 9 months ago and have printed 10382 pages so far. For the price this a good color printer if you don't have high capacity and color speed demands. It's still faster and cheaper to operate than most color ink jets.
My printer prints 4 pages per minute in color and 16 in bw just as rated. The toner capacity is as rated too, but you must select "Auto Continue" under "Engine" in the printer menu tree. If you don't do this the printer will stop printing as soon as its "dumb" counter on any toner cartridge "guesses" that the cartridge is empty. As it turns out the cartridge usually has plenty of toner left and will print close to or above its rating.
Unfortunately I bought several new toner cartridges before I discovered this setting. Afterwards I was able to put the old ones back in and get more life out of them, so I guess nothing was lost.
Let me warn you about buying 3rd party refill toner and trying to refill your old cartridges. Its more of hassle than the refill company lets on. You can do it, but it takes a lot of care and effort to extract the filler plug and you can easily overfill the cartridge and damage it. If you decide to try refilling I suggest placing a small order first to see if its worth the time and trouble.
All and all I am pretty satisfied with my printer. The installation software is a little quirky, the toner empty counter is set too low, and the speed could be a little faster, but the output is good to excellent and the price is right.
