Replace your inkjet now!.......2007-04-17
Installing this printer on my home network of Macs and PCs (both wired and wireless) was actually a pleasure! Kudos to the software developers at Konica Minolta for making drivers and installers that work perfectly and ship with the product! We were tired of ink jet printers always running out of ink, drying out, printing streaky and generally being useless whenever we needed them. We've only owned this printer a month but so far it is the perfect replacement printer for an inkjet. It is a four-pass printer so it is slower than one-pass versions but it still beats any ink jet I've ever owned. It is fast for just black and white. It is also has a nice small footprint (for a color laser). The only cons are it comes with smaller starter cartridges (but that's one reason the price is so low), and replacements are expensive, and it prints very dark on the Mac so I always use the quartz filter to lighten the output for photos.
Great printer for the money!.......2007-03-26
This printer has turned out to be a great option for our company! Networking is simple and it works flawlessly for our employees. The only negative is that it is very slow but we were aware of that issue prior to purchase. If you are looking for a good quality networked color laser printer for not alot of money, I highly recommend this device.
If you are planning on using it heavily to print multiple copies of color documents, I would recommend stepping up to a model that boasts better speed.
Very nice printer for the money.......2007-01-27
I was amazed to find this printer at Sam's Club for about the same price as a "really good" inkjet (as if they actually exist). I am very happy with the Magicolor. It is a bit loud and slow, but prints very nicely. The toner should last at least 3 times as long as inkjet cartridges, so that evens out the price of replacing the toner. For the budget minded who are sick of inkjets (and who isn't), this is a good option.
OUTSTANDING QUALITY.......2006-11-25
I never had or used a laser printer before buying this Magicolor 2530 Dl Color Laser printer. By now I have had it a little more then a month. It is so much better then any of the three HP inkjet printers I have owned it makes me question my past judgement. Because of never working with terms like 'toner' or warm-up, I called the tech phone number, and boy' are they super friendly and helpful. In no time they had me printing bright true-to-color photos, which is what I bought it for in the first place. The printer works best using LASER paper, although when my inkjet paper was used,it pleased me too. The only downside comments I have are the minute or so wait time for the printer to warm up and orient itself, and it is somewhat noisy ...but am I glad I have it!

Magicolor 2400W - Disaster.......2007-06-26
Having owned and operated a Konica-Minolta Magicolor 2400W for the last year and a half I am not surprised this item has been discontinued by the manufacturer. I purchased a brand new unit which promptly broke down in days of installation. Minolta did replace it with a REFURBISHED unit. Strange, I bought new and they replaced it with a used unit.
The printer is incredibly noisy and dirty - it spills a lot of toner inside the printer so you get to clean it frequently if you want clean printing. The toner is outrageously expensive. Replacing all four toner cartridges is more expensive than buying a new printer.
Break downs and error messages are a fact of life with this printer. Konica Minolta's web page help site is of no help what so ever. Unless you somehow forgot to remove the packing tape when you first installed the unit, all help does in recommend you call customer service.
After 18 months of repeated frustration I pulled the plug and went with HP color laser printer.
Bought 2, both failed.......2007-06-03
Very good picture quality for a color laser unit but mechanically very cheap. First page printout is slow but speeds up for multiple copies. I bought 2 to use in my home office and both failed mechanically within 6 months. I would not consider Konica Minolta again due to the cheap quality.
Konica Minolta Magicolor 2400W Color Laser Printer .......2007-04-08
Fantastic print quality. Looks like it came right from a professional photographer on all the colors. True color throughout.
Works great!.......2007-01-04
My first post and I just felt that I had to write a positive review after seeing all the negatives. I got a refurbished one at a discounted rate (less than $150) a couple days ago. B/W text printing is amazing as usual for lasers; colour printing isn't bad at all (under 2400x600 dpi). Unless you look at it up close, you won't notice the pixels.
I don't have the printer long enough to really comment on it's build quality... however, I just want to point out that if you want to print on thick stock (anything > 24lb) you have to go into Printer Preferences and choose "thick stock" under the Paper tab. I just printed using a 32lb stock and it works fine! I noticed that under the "thick stock" setting, the paper feeds slower; presumably to prevent jamming.
Noise level is acceptable to me. The other laser printer I used was one from Samsung and they don't sound any different.
Overall, I'm extremely happy with it for the price I paid.
Good prints but too many problems.......2006-12-20
I bought it because it was cheap ($200); I thought it was less than the cost of the ink cartridge set but it needs a black cartridge after only a couple of thousand pages so, as another reviewer said, the cartridges must be "starter" cartridges. A full set of cartridges cost 50% more than the machine. Print quality is good, and it's fast when printing black-only. But it's noisy -- lots of loud clanking, like someone's inside with a hammer, and machinery whirring. There's no envelope feed so printing an envelope or 4x6 card requires removing paper stock and resetting paper guides; printing 4x6 cards produces jams, if they can print at all. The machine is discontinued so this is all academic now. I'll probably buy a black cartridge but when the color cartridges need replacement I'll probably replace the machine instead. At the time, I could have bought an HP color laser for $100 more; I should have. I've seen the HP operate -- smooth, quiet, with an envelope feed, easily the better buy.

Fast But Expensive.......2005-05-17
At the time I purchased this color laser, it was the best of the home consumer color laser printers available. What sold me was its blazing speed for both B&W and color printing. I have since added a second paper tray devoted exclusively to envelopes. While it is certainly a professional machine, therein lies one of its major drawbacks, i.e., no single feed envelope feeder slot. You have to manually change the feeder configuration and the software preferences each and every time you print even a single envelope. Sometimes the software gets stuck and won't revert to letter feed, and I have to shut it off and reboot to get it to go back. This is a very expensive printer to operate. Adding options is very costly. The unit is now as large as a Volkswagon too. I have had it about 8 months and am down to 1/4 left on the toner (an average home user and not doing photo printing). To replace the four toner cartridges will cost as much as the entire printer cost. It is hard to find supplies because this is a rare printer on the US market. Konica Minolta seems to aim it at the overseas market. I wish when they sell it here they would support it as well. In the end, as in all high technology, I should have waited to get a newer model at half the size and half the cost. It prints well though, and boy is it fast.

Get Ready to PAY, PAY, PAY!.......2004-08-14
I've owned the Minolta Desklaser 2200 for 1.5 years. My first printer had a motherboard crash within 6 months!
I had just refilled the printer with toner, $500.00, and a $275.00 Transfer Belt.....
Minolta paid for a new machine which has run OK so far. Now it needs a new Transfer Belt....there goes another $275.00.
Did I mention how quickly you will be paying for Oil Rollers? We run through one every couple of months!! They are $50.00 a pop.
The quality is good but this machine is designed to eat you out of house and home.
Get ready to pay when you buy one of these babies!!!!
BAD BAD Printer.......2004-07-22
Don't buy a warranty! Its not worth it. Warranties don't cover any consumables. The whole printer is a consumable, except the housing. Consumables don't last even close to what is spec'd.
Mine has 46,000 prints and I've spent $4,200.00 on consumables!!! Very bad.
Went OUT after only 3500 pages!.......2004-05-06
I lvoed this printer when I first got it. Thank God I bought the extended warranty! After only 3500 pages, it needed EXTENSIVE servicing, because the fusing motor went out. The extended warranty wouldn't authorize the reparis, as it was $900.00! They did refund my purchase price, so now I am looking for something else....
DONT BUY if you expect it to last long, especially for the price!
don't move it.......2004-03-12
This unit worked well out of the box with a little more than I cared for setup. But, we moved it down the hall to another office and it hasn't worked properly since.
If you like buying parts 2200 is perfect........2004-01-31
I have owned this printer for 6 months now. I got it for a small home office where I could print invoices (black and white) and print color without hooking up my inkjet. I liked the fact that it had a 500 sheet paper tray and prints quickly. For the price I did not know what to expect, but I have quickly found out. If you want a disposable color laser printer this is the printer to get. I am still on the origional color toner cartridges and I replaced the black toner about a month ago. The oil roller has been replaced as well as the opc drum. For the price of toner and parts it is cheaper to buy a new printer keep to old one and maybe you will get lucky and a different part that did not break on the first one will go first and you will have the part. I also own the minolta 2300dl it prints a much better picture in color than the 2200. If I knew the problems with this one I would not have bought the 2300.

Facts About This Printer.......2007-06-18
Laser printers are very complex and much more delicate in some ways than inkjet printers. However, they can offer significantly lower page costs and higher quality as long as you stay within the toner 'coverage percentage' recommend by the cartridge. Here are some facts:
1) For envelopes or thicker paper, there are levers you must adjust inside the printer to run this-- otherwise it might smudge or jam.
2) 32MB isn't enough RAM, but you do NOT have to use Konica Minolta RAM. Just use an appropriate DIMM and it works find. I found an old one I had and installed it, the printer sees it and uses it fine.
3) This, as with all lasers, needs to sit on a _flat_ and _level_ and FIRM surface. The frame/case must not be torqued or it may cause alignment problems/stresses that cause it to not operate properly.
4) The two-sided doc feeder works great (if you add that option, but it's pricey).
5) If you want reliable network operation, said a hard-IP inside the printer so that your driver always points to the same place on the network.
Printing is great, but remember- the cartridges that come with it are STARTER cartridges. When you buy cartridges, it can be expensive, but definitely get the High-Yield cartridges. It's only slightly more expensive than the normal ones, but your per-page cost goes down.
As for the 'klunky-noises,' this is the internal mechanism rotating toner cartridges into place, with a ferris-wheel mechanism. It has 4 toner cartridges and only one paper path, so in order to reduce the size of the printer to make it manageable by a human, they move the toner cartridges, rather than make the printer huge.
Over time, as long as you stay within the 4% coverage model, a laser is far, far, far cheaper than an inkjet printer, and the output won't smear or bleed.
Be careful when changing toner that you absolutely do not get toner in the mechanism, this can cause headaches and make it not feed properly. Also, periodically, blow compressed air through the paper feed to avoid paper dust.
I've had mine years and years and it continues to perform. My only complaint is the toner is a little pricey.

Bought this printer 1 year ago. After the first month the control chip died and returned it for a new printer. After 1 year the printer died again, again it was the control chip but unfortunately the printer was out of warranty. The chip cost $150, the printer cost me $200. I just bought a new black toner. I would rate this a 4 had it not been for the quality issues.
Unreliable.......2007-05-22
This is a decent printer as far as quality goes, but it's way too fussy.
Took me quite alot of trouble shooting to get the drivers installed, hooked up, and printing properly. When I say "quite alot" I mean several attempts over several days. Finally I got it working, and it worked well for about a week. But then another week when by where I didn't print anything, and when I finally went back to print something, it had stopped communicating with my computer again. I had to do the trouble shooting all over - VERY FRUSTRATING! I thought I was getting a great deal, but I feel like I got a lemon.
Love It, Love It, Love It.......2007-02-24
This printer has been a workhorse for my small business over the course of the last two years. I don't mind spending the money to get the toner cartridges because the quality is second to none for what I paid for the color laser printer.
It DID take some setting up when getting it to cooperate with my Mac but I would hope in the past two years Konica Minolta has taken steps to help us AppleJobHeads by upgrading the set up software to be more user friendly for the growing Mac population.
I highly recommend this printer for the small business owner who does printing of brochures and wants something more polished than the typical ink jet chaos that is out there.

Great printer and very affordable.......2006-11-01
We have 2 of these in our home office and really like both of them. I've gone through many other ink-jets and b/w lasers. Wish they made an affordable color laser that would output 11x17, though.
The note about the envelope switch is important. What happens is there are a couple of shipping levers that you must pull off before using the printer (via strings) which are connected to, or near, the envelope switch. The strings exit though where the paper comes out at the top of the printer and are hidden. When you pull off the shipping levers, it can easily trip the envelope switch without you realizing it. I can't imagine how many needless returns Minolta has had due to this issue. I probably would have returned it myself after another 15 mintues of troubleshooting.
This printer is fairly cheap to run IF you buy ink refills and smart reset chips on ebay. All four cartridges can be refilled for about $150.

Customer Reviews:
Fast Color Laser.......2004-02-25
Just purchased this unit to print postcards on heavy stock paper, two sided. Works great on Win 2000/XP and terrible on Win98 across network. Prints photos FAST and very sharp. 500 sheet feeder hangs occasionally with heavy paper, multi feed slot pulls card stock through flawlessly. I don't expect many problems with a $2000 printer and didn't find many other than the Win98 problem and the cost of replacement toners, $450 for all 4 toners. Duplex feature is oddly buried in the printer properties dialog box, almost impossible to find, you'd think since the duplex feature is what sets this model apart from the other magicolor unit Minolta might make it easier to use. I don't have any experiences with other color lasers so your mileage could vary.

Affordable little workhorse.......2007-05-08
I will admit that my techie husband and I spent hours on the phone with tech support to get setting for dynamic/static IP address set up correctly. Our firewall was not allowing the network to "see" the printer, and I had to reinstall the driver in every computer in the network everytime I moved the printer to a different node (we rearrange our office from time to time...)
Despite the challenges, my whole office has been VERY happy with the quality and speed. We have printed about 50K copies, and about 20K full color pages. We have used several different card stocks without difficulty. We have had a problem with a white streak down the right side of every page, but the cost to repair is not worth the trouble. We plan to buy another one when this one dies. We purchased for $400 at staples - it was worth that just for the cartridges and drum.
My boss has even used this printer for printing photos on glossy-ish paper for his kids school projects. Not photo-quality, but still great for the money.
Single worst printer I have ever owned.......2007-04-13
I have owned dozens of printers, due to my job. I'm not prone to hyperbole, but this is the worst printer, BY FAR, that I have ever worked with. It is incredibly noisy, but the worst part is that the network connection is utterly useless.
To begin with, it took several updates to get the printer to be recognized on the network. This was mentioned in the Macworld review, but the firmware of the unit I bought was later than the firmware upgrade in the reveiw or on the Web site, so I was disappointed in that.
More than anything else, we get Printer Not Responding errors 9 out of 10 times we print. 100% of the time after the Energy Saver kicks in, it won't wake up from the network even with the AppleTalk protocol (a solution suggested elsewhere). The server that is supposed to be in the printer has NEVER worked for us, although another reviewer got it to work only on each startup (never again after Energy Saver mode became active.
The quality of the output is good, but I haven't been able to print enough to agree with the expense of replacement parts. The only way we can print even REMOTELY reliably is via USB, which defeats the purpose of the purchase.
I hate this printer and buying another Konica/Minolta product is very unlikely.
Works For Me.......2007-01-27
I don't know if this is the best color laser printer but it works just fine for me. The setup instructions were not very clear and I had to do some printer name changing to get it to work on my network. I have not had a single problem once it was setup.
My search is over, this printer is magical !.......2007-01-08
I needed good quality waterproof results. I loved Epson pigment inks. They were not only waterproof but you could print bumper stickers, outdoor announcements, photos, brochures, t-shirt transfers and even temporary tatoos at a high definition. The problem is that one needs to constantly use the pigment ink to avoid them clogging the head nozzles and if they clog, the printer cleans itself by spitting more ink. So the ink consumption was very expensive and within a year or so the inkjet printer may become permanently clogged.
I always considered color lasers but their price was high, they are very big, and there was still complaint on the low quality of graphics and photos. Well I found researches that tested the Magicolor 2450 and they said it offers the best photo/graphic quality they have seen in color lasers. Their prices keep dropping specially the Magicolor 2450 which it seems like it will be substituted very soon by newer models which may not be built as good as this one. I read that Minolta wanted to make a special statement with the 2450 to say that color lasers can do as good job printing pictures as the inkjets.
I bought it hassle-free from Tiger Direct and received it sooner than what I expected for standard shipping. It's one of the smallest color lasers. It doesn't offer clear installation information but if you have experience with printers it will be mostly self-explanatory.
It took me long time though to figure out why the printer and computer weren't communicating. I first tried connecting to PC win ME via ethernet router then through parallel following their (poor) instructions and then with my experience but it hanged when trying to install the driver. So I will try to install them manually like I had to do eventually with my two apple mac computers.
Both apple computers (10.28 & 10.4) found the printer fast through AppleTalk. I think it was good that I assigned the printer a permanent IP address from the PC first. Still the right drivers for the macs to be able to talk to the printer were installed manually after the self-install didn't do the job. I'm sure I will be able to make it happen for the PC later. So the 2450 is working perfectly as a fast network printer for my apple computers.
If you don't have experience with printer drivers and printer installations I wouldn't try installing this printer. Why am I still giving it 5 stars? Because of its own merits. I don't think this guy should be penalized for the Japanese person that failed to fully explain the installation alternatives and offer troubleshooting help. Not even their website was helpful. Once you get this printer installed right... BEHOLD! High quality photos from iPhoto, labels, brochures, cardstock, documents, graphics from Illustrator on plain paper without banding... gradiants are smooth; the text is so black and crisp even at the smallest font size. It obeys exactly anything the macs tell it to do. The photos are no different than my previous Epsons (just may not print glossy enough for you but can send to a photo-lab). I'm sure I will start finding photographical issues later but it produces high quality prints the way it is. So, I don't mind unscrambling its installation difficulties as long as it delivers what I needed in the first place.
There is a Phaser color printer built as good as this one with the same components but I investigated that the cost for the toners is much higher for the Phaser than for this Minolta version.
Garbage.......2006-11-05
The color is great, but it is hard to believe how negligent and incompetant they were in creating their widely sold printers (in all Staples stores, etc). Ridiculously noisy, extremely long warm up cycle, which occurs EVERY time you open the lid, etc. Constant "jams" because the rollers do not pull the paper properly, no way to retsart after a "jam" except to lift the lid and wait for the 2 minute warm up cycle, using anything but the cheapest thin paper will cause all kinds of pseudo jam problems, will cancel your job for you (thanks), and very bizarre preferences in terms of matching paper type as listed in printer, with paper type in your software.. If they dont match, it is a printer error (duh), causing you to take 2 or 4 extra steps every time you print.

2430DL ColorLaser + X31 Camera
Customer Reviews:
Run Don't walk.......2007-05-30
This is the worst product I have ever purchased. I bought the printer for light use and in less than 100 pages printing it died. Konica told me to buy random parts from them that didn't work. Then they told me to take it to one of their technicians. Wasted more money than the printer was worth. There's a reason no one has a Konica printer. They are horrible. Don't waste your money like I did. Horrible.
Excellent office printer - with some issues........2006-02-17
I found the 2430 DL to be a compact, attractive, relatively fast printer that produces high quality B/W and color prints. Business graphics print very nicely though it doesn't reproduce photographs well. The photographs that I've printed have a sepia cast and muddy appearance.
As an earlier reviewer noted, the fusing of the image on envelopes is incomplete, resulting in a smearable print. Moreover, the envelope printing procedure requires you to remove the paper, adjust the paper alignment guides, open the printer(!) and flip two levers. Once you are done... reverse the process. We print evelopes occasionaly and one at a time so this isn't a workable solution. We kept an old printer just for envelopes. I can see why another reviewer, who needs envelope printing, gave this printer a poor rating.
The print driver is clean and has lots of nice features and doesn't take over your computer or fill your task list with background programs like some other popular printers.
Built-in networking worked like a champ right out of the box.
Like other color lasers the printer makes some noise. I can't really judge if it is worse than the others, since this is the only one we have heard outside the stores. It is silent when not in use, but makes a variety of mechanical clicks, clunks and whirs when printing.
Conclusion: As a small office printer, where envelopes and photos can be printed elsewhere, the 2430 DL is an excellent choice. The price is very reasonable as well.
WORST ever for printing envelopes!.......2005-12-27
I have had nothing but problems printing envelopes with this printer. Odd sizes jam, and will NOT print. When an evelope does make it through this printer (standard size #10s), the print does not fuse to the envelope and smears. And yes, I have changed the tension levers for envelopes before before printing. I would only give this 1 star because it does print 8.5in X 11in standard weight paper just fine, but I want more options from a printer than this.
