Customer Reviews:

1 out of 5 stars Very unreliable printer.......2006-10-02

I first bought this printer about two years ago. After only having it for a few months, my computer would no longer recognize it. I did everything the customer support people asked, including buying an extra USB cable (not that they included one with the printer in the first place). After that they sent me a refurbished replacement printer, and I got it very quickly. Unfortunately my replacement printer was dead on arrival. Even more unfortunate, customer support became a lot less kind in replacing this one. It took me a few months to convince them that it really was dead, including testing it on three different computers, with two different cables, in three different operating systems. Finally they agreed to exchange it again, and within a few days I once again had a "new" (refurbished) printer. This one worked for a few months, and now my computer won't recognize it either. I have again confirmed that it is the printer that has died, and unfortunately my warranty period is over, and so I am stuck with a dead printer.

5 out of 5 stars GREAT Low Priced Laser Printer!.......2006-08-15

My husband purchased this printer just before the 2004 income tax season - he has a seasonal tax preparation business - and it has printed over 10,000 pages so far with only one call to tech support, which cured the only problem - not pulling paper through (dirty rollers)- with a Q-tip and alcohol in about 5 minutes. After using inkjet printers for his first few seasons and going through 3 black ink cartridges a week during his busiest time, plus the wait for the slow printing time, he decided to try a laser printer and loves it. It much more economical to operate and so much faster. He highly recommends this printer for anyone who does a lot of black and white printing.

2 out of 5 stars Fast but noisy.......2006-04-25

Bought the printer from Staples for $149 in 2005. Bought it because of Lexmark's reputation and my previous laser was a Lexmark.

It is fast -- greasy fast -- however it sounds like a tank. Initial powerup takes about 30 seconds. Average time to print for text is about 7-10 seconds. Graphics take much, much longer. It seems like Lexmark, to make the printer cheaper, made it dumber. Printing a document with complex graphics (a picture, PDFs, etc.) takes forever -- it seems.

A positive is the 250sheet paper tray. However, when the printer runs out, it keeps spinning a paper grab wheel until paper is loaded. The printer looks nice with a black shell and grey top. . The output bin is poorly designed and printing big documents will result in pages that have to be shuffled and aligned.

Oh, the initial toner cartridge is only good for about 2000 pages.

Overall, I was disappointed and will probably replace the printer within a year -- and not with another Lexmark.

1 out of 5 stars Absolute Garbage.......2006-04-21

I support computers for a living and I cant see how anyone can say this printer is good for anything but problems. I have had 4 of these now, after buying the original one BRAND NEW, all it did was paper jam. I was sent 3 more REFURBISHED printers by Lexmark (They seem to think I want a refurb. printer), and ALL PAPER JAM. I went down to circuit city the other day and there was one on display--WITH A PAPER JAM. In the end I have a laser printer that doesnt do anything but jam. And I will NEVER buy a Lexmark anything as long as I live.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent performance for a small office.......2005-12-03

We have more than gotten our money's worth from this machine--print quality has been as expected, and it runs flawlessly on our 3 Mac network. Print speed is very good, and it has way more RAM than some comparable models from other makers. This leads to one of my two complaints--it actually queues print jobs so fast that you have absolutely no time to cancel a job, a bit of a drag when you forgot to specify printing only page 1 instead of all 40! My only real point of dissatisfaction is that it does not do a good job picking card stock out of the feed tray (jams), but it does just fine pulling card stock through the manual feed one sheet at a time.
