1 out of 5 stars Avoid buying EPSON products.......2007-06-16

The short version of this is that I have bought quite a few Epson printers for personal use as well as for my company. Typically, they work well for a little while and then start having issues with heads clogging. I have just installed brand new ink cartridges (All four) and the printer still thinks it is out of ink. These four replaced four other brand new cartridges that the printer also thought was out of ink. The cost of printing on this unit has run me about $20 per page during the time I have had it. That doesn't account of my time to get ink and missing important deadlines due to the problems.

If this was the only Epson unit I had ever had this problem with, I suppose I wouldn't be so adamant, however I have had this type of trouble with several of them. One of my employees is recommending Hewlett Packard over Epson because of their consistent good, dependable performance.

As I write this, I am installing an HP on my computer to get rid of the Epson. I will never buy an EPSON product again.

2 out of 5 stars A printer shouldn't need to be coddled.......2007-06-15

I bought my CX4600 about two years ago, and it worked wonderfully for many months after my purchase.

When I ran out of black ink, I couldn't afford to replace the black cartridge right away. Since the Stylus will not print if a single cartridge is empty, and since I used the printer at work more often, I stopped using the printer for almost a year. When I finally got round to using it again, the color cartridges no longer worked. Upon my replacement of all the cartridges, only cyan and black produced any output, and after a couple of cleanings those stopped printing altogether.

Apparently, the Stylus printers will give a very long period of good service only if they are used frequently (i.e.: more than once a week). I no longer need to print out anything that often. I wish I had known before buying this unit on sale at the UCSD bookstore; I now have a cumbersome scanner that works beautifully.

5 out of 5 stars Whats your problem???.......2007-03-05

This is an excellent printer! All the people that say the ink runs out to fast, try shaking the cartridge.

2 out of 5 stars Avoid Like the Plague.......2007-02-19

I bought this printer 7 months ago; I am now on my third set of coloured ink cartridges and my fourth or fifth set of black. I don't print all that much! This thing guzzles ink, and the chips decrement the ink levels even when you have not printed anything. The ink reads "empty" even when there is a ton of ink sloshing around in the cartridge. Also, it will not print at all if you don't have all 4 colours full. The ink is about $15 for each colour cartridge, and nearly double that for black. Refills don't work well because you need to reprogram the chips on the cartridges. Also, there are some problems with print quality which I at first though was because I had a non standard ink cartridge but after reading these other reviews I think it might be the printer. The software slowed down my laptop so much I needed a RAM upgrade.

On the plus side, the scanner and copier work great and are easy to use.

Today I went to buy another set of ink replacements, but bought a new HP laser printer instead for just a few more dollars. EPSON, I have one question: did you design this thing solely to rip off your customers over the ink?

2 out of 5 stars Buy some other model: Ink = very high maintenance, but water-proof-ish prints; handy little scanner . .......2007-01-24

Bought a year ago. Unit didn't print at all. Exchanged. Second Unit prints fantastic (when it works)

First the good: Great little scanner/control program for quick jobs.
Ink is vibrant, water/humidity-proof (it's basically paint.)
Compact box-shape is easy to set most anywhere handy to your work area. (I'm repeatedly suprised at actually enjoying working/handling with the thing)

The Stinking frustrating lousy: First unit didn't work!
Cause the ink is pigment based, it drys in the printhead/cartridge, have to use it frequently or @#!
Don't use the "clean allign cartridge" features! For whatever reason doing so always makes the printer say "LOW INK, I REFUSE TO WORK UNDER THESE CONDITIONS!" and it won't either, curse it as much as you like.

There are good websites that sell replacement cart' for about 1/5 what epson 'tridges do (only way I've been able to stick with this thing.)
also, there are sites that sell "repair" kits to dissolve clogs (overnight)

Thinking hard now about an HP all-in-one. Epson should've spent more time on their ink formula and Q'C' maybe they have in the meantime, I don't care,

never again.
