Customer Reviews:
Bought it, Love it, Rely On it.......2007-01-16
I got this scanner/copier/printer when I wanted to do a photo-collage and send it to 150 people for wedding thank-yous, and I wished I had bought it sooner for the wedding invites [which I also designed in Adobe Photo-Shop--sold separately!] I've never regretted it! I got it new for just over a hundred with tax, I've had it for a year and a half, and it was money well spent! Staples sells knockoffs of the ink cartridges, so I save a few dollars there...One minor criticism: When making copies, the two-line, unlighted L.E.D. display is less-than-ideal, but I mostly use it for printing stuff from the web. Works great as a scanner also, esp. with PhotoShop.
DO NOT BUY A CANON!!!.......2007-01-05
Had the printer about a year, when suddenly something called a waste ink absorber became full. It has a fault code on the screen, that has to be cleared by a technician. I could not remember when I bought it, so Canon is saying it must of been over a year and will not honor the warranty. Service location is too far away. No offer from Canon to mail it in for repair. Just a lame offer of a 15% customer loyalty discount on an MP160.. for a total of about $75-80. That in addition to the $100 plus I laid out for this piece of junk would total nearly $200 in the span of about a year on low end printers. Not to mention the paper feed started acting up. Loyalty my foot, I bought a $30 Lexmark all in one on sale at Walmart to replace it. In my estimation they all have about the same quality of printing and construction (if I want photo's printed I'll go to the drugstore or order them online, why waste ink on low quality prints from a home printer?)I have a Canon digital camera (A510) which is fine, but after this little bait and switch quality fiasco. I'll probably buy another brand of camera as well, when the time comes. Thumbs down for Canon on quality and customer appreciation!
Avoid at all costs!.......2006-05-07
Even if someone offers to give you this printer for free, don't take it. I wasted $100 on it. I think I got about 10 copies before the black ink cartridge ran out. It never feeds the paper correctly, constant paper jams. Visiting the Canon website and following all of their troubleshooting steps has not worked. I threw this thing away. The scanner works OK but that's about it.
very good all-1 here!!.......2006-03-08
bought this one for my brother and i'll tell ya, this is one heck of a printer, the quality is great. i catch myself using it more then my own epson.
and since my epson has crapped out one me, im looking into buying a MP130 for myself now.
as for the ink, i dont use it enough or buy ink for it so i dont know how long it last and what not.
Amazingly good machine and such a good price!.......2005-12-23
I bought this primarily to replace a scanner, to use as a copier and to save my professional photo printers from the day to day printing that doesn't need its quality. Imagine my surprise at the quality and choices available with the MP130! Even the draft text printing is acceptable for a lot of uses (and for copying) and it's blazingly fast (even for copying). If you increase the quality of copies, it takes longer because it scans better but that's both understandable and perfectly acceptable. The big surprise was the photo quality this critter delivers. It rivals the S900 for quality on similar photo paper. I plan to use it for photo proofs some of the time; the color cartridge is all-in-one so individual colors aren't replaceable (as with my pro printers) but then again, the color cartridge isn't much more than each color of the other machines! It also prints letterhead (I use color for my logo) and excellent text at high quality and on good paper.
I tried recommending this to a friend but warned her it was a discontinued model. Sadly, in the day between the time I got mine and when she tried to order, they were indeed gone at the lowest price. We did find her one for a bit more (on a certain well-known auction websitesite) and, honestly, I'd pay quite a bit more for the MP130, knowing what I know now.
I recommend OEM Canon inks which are readily available on Amazon.com. If you order enough to qualify for the free shipping, the price comes in lower than any other location I've found.
Bottom line is that I recommend this maching highly. Sadly, I don't think all the glowing reviews will help a bit because the machine isn't much available now. But there is always the aforementioned auction site. ;) Seriously, it would be truly a service if Amazon.com could find some of these and once again offer them.
