Ramp up your gaming with the German-engineered Medion Vortex desktop PC, powerful enough for entry to mid-level gamers and scalable enough for the advanced gamer. It's housed in an innovatively designed full-size, 100 percent aluminum tower chassis in black, with four blue LEDs on the front. It features a guage cluster for ventilation, temperature control and sound volume monitoring. It's easy to upgrade, with tool-less entry (via thumbscrews), removable side panels, and the mother board mounted to a removable sliding tray. It'll stay clean, too, thanks to the air intake's dust filter to limit interior pollution. It offers lots of room for expansion with 3 available HDD bays (non RAID version) and 4 available PCI slots.

The Vortex is powered by an AMD 64-bit processor, and it comes with an extra-large 250 GB hard drive, 1 GB of installed RAM (with 4 GB maximum), a dual-layer, multi-format DVD burner, 10/100/1000 Ethernet port, 9-in-1 digital media reader, 7.1-channel audio with SPDIF input and output, and a wealth of pre-loaded software.

The Basics

• Hard Drive: The massive 250 GB Serial ATA hard drive (7200 RPM) offers a wealth of storage space, perfect for storing a vast multimedia collection or for editing digital video.
• Processor: AMD's Athlon 64 3800+ processor is built for tomorrow's 64-bit applications, which will require a processor with significant power. This 2.4 GHz processor offers a 512 KB L2 cache. (An L2, or secondary, cache temporarily stores data; and a larger L2 cache can help speed up your system's performance.) It includes such AMD features as HyperTransport Technology (which increases the communication between integrated circuits) and Cool'n'Quiet Technology that conserves power while also keeping the PC nicely quiet.
• Memory: The 1 GB of installed RAM (PC3200) is a good start for this multimedia-centric desktop PC, so you'll want to take advantage of the ultra-roomy 4 GB of total RAM capacity (2 x 2 GB) for such multimedia needs as video editing and full-on immersive 3D gaming.
• CD/DVD Drive: The double-layer DVD drive is compatible with a wide range of formats, including both DVD+RW and DVD-RW discs, CD-RW discs, and dual-layer DVD+R discs, which can hold up to 8.5 GB of data--great for backing up your MP3 collection. It also comes preloaded with Microsoft Works 8.0, Cyberlink PowerProducer, Cyberlink PowerDVD, Ahead Nero Burning ROM with Nero Recode 2-SE, Musicmatch Jukebox, Norton AntiVirus (includes 90 days of complimentary live updates), and a trial edition of Adobe Photoshop Album 2.0.
