The Basics

CD/DVD Drive: Offering the latest in DVD writing technology, This PC's multiformat DVD/CD drive is compatible with both DVD+ and DVD- disc formats as well as dual-layer (DL) DVD+/-R discs, which can store up to 8.5 GB of data. Additionally, it enables you to control your television with the included remote and record and pause programs (much like a DVR--or digital video recorder--such as Tivo or ReplayTV). It also comes preloaded with Microsoft Works (for working with word processing and spreadsheet documents), Symantec Norton Internet Security 2005 (with 60 days of LiveUpdate), Encarta Encyclopedia 2005, Quicken New User Edition 2005, Microsoft Money 2005, RecordNow, WinDVD Player, Sonic DigitalMedia Plus, muvee AutoProducer, iTunes, and PC Doctor.

The included HP Image Zone Plus photo and imaging software makes it easy to organize, edit, share, print, protect, and store your photos and video clips. Organize and find your photos easily by timeline, keywords, and/or location using the unique photo-globe mapping tool. Remove red eye and fix other common problems. Share your photos quickly via e-mails that include thumbnails with links to the full-sized images--without downloading time-consuming attachments.

H P will not honor my warranty.......2007-01-03

I had a similar head crash on the unit that I purchased from Amazon March 15, 2006. It crashed in early October (7 months after receiving it) and when I called HP to find out what to do for warranty repairs, they said they had no agreement with Amazon as an authorized re-seller, therefore would not honor any warranty more than 12 months after factory assembly date. In my case it was Sept, 2005, and my crash came 12 months later. They didn't care that I had purchased the item new in March, 2006. Now I am saddled with a repair bill of over @200 for a hard drive crash or mother board defect. And it cost me $100 for the technical service (human voice on phone) to diagnose the problem and make arrangements for a bench repair (return). I am awaiting Amazon's investigation into these over $300 of repairs to a 7 month old CPU! UGH! Like the other reviewer, I have kept my 2000 Gateway and it is working fine........just like new.....but not as up to date as I had hoped to be by now.

Great features...all except reliability.......2006-07-08

I bought this desktop in February, received and set it up March 2006. It has great features like being able to insert media devices on the FRONT of the PC, Lite-Scribe, etc., however, it crashed - either motherboard or hard drive - just five months after I bought it. HP was helpful and will fix it under the one-year warranty, but it should not have fritzed just five months after purchase!!!! I'm always very careful with my PC's, virus protection, firewall, turn off at night, etc., and hadn't even learned how to use many of the features before it crashed. Very disappointed. I hope it lasts more than another five months when I get it back. In any case, I won't buy another HP. Thank goodness for my trusty old Gateway which I kept after the "new and improved" PC came in, which is what I'll use until the HP is "fixed."
