Was a great deal for $115.......2004-10-26
Picked up this machine used at a neighbors garage sale for fifteen dollars ($15). The seller said she started having problems almost immediately but HP was of little help - pay-per-call phone tech support kept having her restore Windows XP. The store where she purchased it informed her that all her problems would resolve after the machine "broke in". It broke, alright... with a hard drive crash just two weeks out of its warrantee.
I tested then replaced its defective 40g 5400rpm Samsung SV4002H hard drive with a pair of 20g WD200BB Western Digitals I got off eBay, swapped the 32mb ATI Rage 128 video card out for a (Chaintech) NVIDIA GeForce4 MX 440, upped the RAM to 512, and now, with a total investment of about $115 have a decent email getter.
The best part of having a HP 7955 is that the Xandros 2.0 Linux distro installs trouble-free on the first try :-)
FWIW, the system runs on a ASUSTeK P4B-LA REV 1.xx motherboard
windows xp.......2002-11-20
i bought a hp7955 with windows xp in october 2001, and had nothing but trouble with every program trying to run it.i spent half of my time on the computer sending problem screens to hp & microsoft and now the hard drive is shuting down, and have no help from either company, installing patches has not help.
Value Computer.......2002-10-19
I have had this computer for over half a year and still love it. I have had no problems with it. With a Pentium 4, 256 MB of RAM, and a 32 MB video card this model has a lot of speed for the price, making it a great value. It has alot of software included including a great cd burning program. This is a great computer.
Nice machine but support could be better........2002-07-11
Machine has alot of good features, but it could do with a few less pop-ups.I find that all the distractions by the reminders really get in the way of enjoying the programs I really want to use.
The system restore feature is a life saver, if it used properly. The other nice programs are HP record,The MP3 player, photo studio, the tools in help and support, and the PC doctor, it kind of makes up for the down side of this machine, the telephone support (that you have to pay for, no 800#)and windows xp! What's with all the updates anyway,I feel maybe this window system may need a few more updates. Can anybody really tell me what system I relly have, or what system it was before all the updates. I seem to be getting conflicting info on that topic, when your tech support has a different property screen than you for the network adapter, it gives you some food for thought. Like I said in the being,it really has alot of nice features that you can use,or a multitude of tasks that you could perform if you didn't have to spend so much time to get the window platform and hp instant help to see your broadband connection,if your not part of the NETWORK. Well, I end here, with, where's the reboot CD's while I still have few good thoughts about my computer.
This PC is all around Great!.......2002-04-08
It is easy to see that that alot of people don't like this particular PC but i have owned one for a while now and have had no problems. I have upgraded it with all the patches and used Norton System works and fire wall to combat all the hackers out there :P. So i recommend this all around versitile computer to anyone or any family just because it will hold up to programs you can throw at it. Just an example: I have Office xp, 8 games, photo editing, and over 500 music files on this wonderful machine.
