Amazon.com Product Description

The Samsung 226BW 22-Inch Digital/Analog Widescreen LCD Monitor offers razor-sharp, widescreen image clarity and a host of innovative features. The image quality of the 22-inch widescreen offers wide viewing angles with bright colors for a very favorable viewing experience. With a wider viewing angle (160-degree vertical and horizontal viewing angle) Samsung makes sure you can see objects on your screen even when you're leaning over to grab a snack.

With 16.7 million colors bombarding your rods and cones, you'll be impressed with the clearer, brighter imagery that this wide spectrum monitor has to offer. Another impressive feature of the 206BW is the pixel pitch, or the distance between pixels. This specification is usually measured in millimeters, and the smaller the pitch the sharper the image. Samsung offers a remarkable 0.282-millimeter pixel pitch for outstanding image clarity. The most talked about spec associated with LCD monitors is the measure of the difference of brightness levels between the brightest white and the darkest dark--the contrast ratio. With a contrast ration of 3000:1, this monitor assures crisp, easy-to-view images. Lastly, Samsung has designed this monitor with MagicColor to improve hue and saturation of colors. This function also adjusts mid-level colors to shades that the human eye accepts as natural. By enhancing the contrast ratio with MagicColor, fresh images with exceptional clarity spring to life, even on a darker screen.

Connectivity is also important when choosing a monitor. The 226BW features an advanced dual interface that is capable of handling both analog video signals for present use, and digital video signals for the future. Whatever the signal sources are, this monitor will process those signals to give you an optimal viewing experience. In addition, this monitor features a standard D-Sub 15-pin connection and a fast DVI-D connection for your high-resolution demands.

Other features include compatibility with all major operating systems (including Microsoft Vista's Premium standards) and an ultra-fast 2ms response time that virtually eliminates the "blur" that is present in 25, 16, and 12ms monitors (this is especially good news for gamers). Plus, with Samsung you have Magic Technologies, such asMagicBright3 and MagicTune, right at your fingertips. MagicBright3 is a new feature that provides the best viewing environment depending on the contents of the image you are watching, and MagicTune is Samsung's OSD (On-Screen Display) solution that provides a simple, convenient adjustment to the best image quality.

Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Beautiful but flawed.......2007-07-03

The monitor looks great, and I'm very happy with it.
The only downsides are that bright colors are REALLY bright, and change slightly with viewing angle, which causes problems if you're editing photographs. Also, there is a slightly dark patch at the top right of the screen, but only slight - I didn't notice it until I switched to a light wallpaper.
Overall, very good for the price. If you have a choice, of course get a B or C (I got an A)

5 out of 5 stars Excellent LCD.......2007-06-27

I am very impressed with the quality of this monitor! Amazingly vivid colors, crisp, with deep blacks and bright whites. The 2ms gets rid of any possible ghosting, and makes this monitor ideal for video, home office operations, or gaming. I wouldn't think twice about recommending this LCD.

Amazon delivered quicker than expected, and they had the best price I could find as well!

5 out of 5 stars Don't let the 'C' panel scare you.......2007-06-26

After much research on the 226BW, I was torn by the gamble of getting a 'C' panel vs. an 'A' or 'S' according to all the nasty 'C' reviews... I work with computers all day looking at either a 21" Dell Trinitron with great color and sharpness for a CRT or a 20" Dell 2001FP flat panel having even better sharpness and beautiful color... I expected to be underwhelmed by the 226BW but I bought it anyway to replace a Viewsonic 19" CRT at home. I was blown away. The initial brightness and contrast was probably set high enough to read this thing on the surface of the sun but once that was tamed down somewhat for use on Earth, I was hooked. I'm talking about a 'C' panel here!! Whatever you read about any of the panels used in the 226BW, I don't feel you can go wrong with this monitor.

4 out of 5 stars Very nice monitor.......2007-06-25

For those of you keeping score, I ordered the monitor from Amazon and received the "S" model. The image quality is excellent, even when hooked up through the analog connection. In fact, having the analog and digital connections makes it very easy to have two machines hooked up to same monitor.

Only two things prevented a five star rating: (1) I was not impressed with the stand; this is easily fixed as noted by other reviewers. (2) The blue light on the power button is a little overpowering. It is slightly annoying when using the monitor, but is most annoying when it's blinking in stand-by mode.

Hard to beat this monitor without spending a lot more.

5 out of 5 stars it arrives in four days!!.......2007-06-25

I buy this monitor just 5 days ago in $319.99 and now it cost $380.00 or more! I had luck but I'm waiting the arrive and I can't wait to use this great monitor!!!

5 out of 5 stars Samsung Quality.......2007-07-02

What can you say, Samgsung has done it again. Nothing bad about this monitor. I have an older Dell and was concerned about it being compatiable my system. When I hooked it up, it almost installed it's self. The CD that came with the monitor auto started and things were as smooth as silk. It's nice to be able to see all of your work and not have to scroll around.

The only thing I had to do was adjust my resolution a little and the brightness to suite my needs. Other than that no problems. Thanks Samgsung.

5 out of 5 stars Sweet Computer Monitor.......2007-06-02

So far, I have purchased five of these 19" and two of the 22" monitors for my small business.

Image and video quality is superb, but I am most impressed with text quality. I do a lot of work with small text and numbers in spreadsheets. Other flat panels I own have left me longing for the days of crisp text on a CRT. But this Samsung out performs the best CRTs I ever owned.

Know that this monitor is just that, a computer monitor. You can't connect it to a DVD player or component video source. It has just two inputs, analog VGA (15 pin) or Digital DVI-D. So it is for computers only.

If that's what you need, you simply can find a better monitor for anything close to this price.

4 out of 5 stars Incredible monitor!.......2007-05-21

I got this monitor to replace my old Sony Trinitron CRT monitor. I have a P4 3.0Ghz PC with 1G RAM using the onboard S3 Savage Pro video card and I am running Windows XP Home Edition and XUbuntu Linux.

This is trully an amazing product.

What comes is the package:
- Monitor
- Base (very easy to set up). The monitor is VESA compatible, so you can mount it on a wall if you want to.
- VGA D-sub 15 pin cable (NO DVI cable)
- Driver CD
- Power Cord

What I like:
- Super design: simple and doesn't take a lot of room on my desk.
- Glossy screen: as good as my Apple MacBook screen.
- Picture quality: simply on of the best I've seen. Very bright and sharp. Using magic bright and magic color technology will allow you to set up the monitor exactly like you want.
- Windows Vista certified. Works out of the box.

Things you need to know:

The CD Autorun doesn't work. Instead it launches the your browser with the documentation. You need to explore the CD, go in the Driver folder and run setup.exe

This monitor will not work at its full capability properly if you video card does not
support the widescreen mode.
I tried using my on-board video card, but I could only have 800x600, 1024x768, 1280x1024, none of these are 16:10 aspect ratio. As a result, the image will be scaled to the monitor aspect ratio and picture will not be of a great quality.
The brightness/contrast will also be completely off (way too bright).

Fortunately I found an old NVIDIA AGP card, (I think a TNT2). After setting that up, I got the picture to appear correctly and with the correct settings.

In Linux, the generic driver only offers 800x600, which doesn't match the aspect ratio of the monitor. I haven't done much research, but I think downloading a newer NVIDIA driver for linux (from www.nvidia.com) could resolved the issue.

Last thing, There is no drivers listed on samsung's website for the 906BW. However you can download the one for the 931BW, which is compatible.
And there is no linux drivers available.

Overall, I am very happy with this product.

5 out of 5 stars Absolutely Beautiful.......2007-02-20

Cannot say a bad thing about this monitor. Incredible brightness and clarity, and so far I haven't seen any ghosting or bluring, and I probably won't with the 2ms response time. What's more, the silver bevel on the bottom matches my HP keyboard perfectly. I love it!

Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars A good value.......2007-06-30

I bought this monitor for video gaming, and it is performing very well for that. The screen is bright and the colors are vivid and well-balanced. I had no dead pixels and no problem with light bleed-through. On-screen adjustments are simple and it is easy to match the brightness and contrast of the screen to a changing environment. There is no visible ghosting and the fine detail makes video games more immersive.

On the down side, the vertical viewing angle is too small, so the monitor is either too light at the bottom or too dark at the top, no matter how I adjust it. Also, the monitor only supports the native resolution on my computer. At any other size, text is blurry. Even after adjustments, I find that text and icons are sometimes too small and internet picures and video are also very small. On the other hand, I can easily fit two documents or applications side-by-side on the wide screen.

I would recommend this monitor for students, gamers, and general home/office use. For graphic artists and other professionals, you will want to invest in something better, like an Eiso or a better Samsung with a PVA screen. Unfortunately, a better monitor will cost double or triple the price of this one, so this is a good value for a budget-minded purchaser.

5 out of 5 stars Best IT bargain in 10 years.......2007-06-27

I am not a highly knowledgeable connoisseur of different monitor technologies -- just a guy who stares at monitors 12-18 hours per day for work and wants what they display to look good. This one looks _great_ and I still cannot believe that, already in April 2007, it was available for under $300. That's a significantly better price/performance mix than the competition. I'm sure LCD prices will continue falling by 25-40% per year, but for now this Samsung is king of the hill.

5 out of 5 stars beautiful monitor.......2007-06-27

It is an amazing monitor for a great price. It even works with my old Nvidia graphics card. Cannot complain at all. I love the height adjustment as well.

1 out of 5 stars junk .......2007-06-24

junk. is all I can say. Samsung pulls the bait and switch on us by using other manufacturers for their screens. beware the "C" on the label-back of the monitor. I bought this one and the 940N- my 225 is a "C" and the other one- a 940n is a "A" on the label. Huge difference. and forget about the 226- the quality has gone downhill. google for the 226 A and the S. AVOID THE "C"- most of the guys on the forums only have 1 monitor and if you put the A beside the C it will be totally apparent to you.

5 out of 5 stars Easy Choice.......2007-06-13

I'll have to add my voice to the chorus of positive reviews. After carefully scrutinizing nearly all of the twenty-two inch monitors currently available, this one became an easy choice. I do CAD work and overall, the Samsung is comparable in quality and right there in terms of specifications to the others in this class (Dell, HP, even the newer Samsung 226bw). This one, however, comes with an adjustable stand, a feature high up on my list. Viewing angles are not great with any LCD and since my chair (and neck) goes up and down, I figured my monitor should too.

To get any higher quality, you will have to look for a true, 8-bit panel such as the Samsung 215TW: But now you're talking an entirely different price point.

Something I did not know about before I made the purchase was the excellent customer/technical support Samsung has to offer. I had a few issues, which I contacted Samsung about, and the support was incredibly prompt and professional. (How refreshing is that!) I now have complete confidence that the generous three-year warranty really means something.

The only downside I can see is that this unit may be phased out in favor of the newer 226bw.

PROS:
Fully adjustable stand *****
Very good quality panel - sharp image; no dead or stuck pixels
Matt black bezel (I find the high gloss finish, which has become popular, distracting)
Colors are generally quite good for a six-bit panel (see comment on controls)
Three-year warranty
Excellent customer support
HDCP capable (the ViewSonic VG series is not)
Includes both DVI and VGA cables (most of the others only include the VGA cable)
Excellent price/value (especially since the introduction of of the newer 226bw)

CONS:
Some light bleed (as others have mentioned), but only noticeable when using a completely black screen (hardly ever).
Somewhat complicated (OSD) controls, though quite flexible once you get past the learning curve and find right settings for the work you do.

Hope this helps.

Attached the video cable and everthing looked good and worked fine. Used the monitor on a Dell system using XP home. Have not tried to use it with Vista. The company web site does not provide information about using the monitor with Vista.

much better than my 17" - great price - the picture is so clear! Definitely recommend.

5 out of 5 stars Sleek, stylish and cheap!.......2007-06-14

I was very hesitant about buying a monitor, as I had only used the old clunky CRT monitors before. I got this one because the widescreen seemed pretty cool, it was a good price, and a definite upgrade. Well, I couldn't be happier with it.

Amazon.com Product Description

The Samsung 206BW 20-Inch Digital/Analog Widescreen LCD Monitor offers razor-sharp, widescreen image clarity and a host of innovative features. The image quality of the 20-inch widescreen offers wide viewing angles with bright colors for a very favorable viewing experience.

Samsung offers a remarkable 0.258-millimeter pixel pitch for outstanding image clarity.

The 206BW features an advanced dual interface that is capable of handling both analog video signals for present use, and digital video signals for the future.

The 206BW is designed to meet VESA standards to accommodate any display type. This monitor is both wall and arm mountable, so it fits almost any environment on your desk or the wall.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent Buy!.......2007-07-01

I settled on the Samsung 206BW after a month of research. I finally decided on this for its looks, price and ideal middle-ground between a 19" and a 22". This is a real beauty and I am impressed by its performance. Luckily there are no problems I have faced like others have claimed(like noise at low brightness). The wide-screen is awesome - can have multiple chat sessions open while you are still surfing the web. Go for this!

5 out of 5 stars Works well.........2007-06-27

Item arrived quickly, packaged well (no damage), no problems setting up, looks great. This is my first LCD so not much to compare. Sure beats the old CRT in terms of desk space.

4 out of 5 stars Nice looking, great price, good choice for 20 inch wide monitor.......2007-06-10

First of all, this is not a monitor for professionals. It has some disadvantages, maybe the picture isn't 100% sharp (I'm most complaining on the text, somehow blurry), but for home needs it's more than OK.
It's very well designed and will look great on your desk. Also, for 250$ you'll get 20inch, wide screen, (for example great for movies if you play them on your PC)
Brightness is great. Also what I always liked about Samsung monitors is it's colors (great for photos too.)
All in all this is not a perfect monitor but for ordinary home use it's great - I love it .

4 out of 5 stars Great Value.......2007-06-05

This monitor is a great value for what you pay for it. Haven't had any problems with buzzing mentioned elsewhere. Had to recurve the monitor slightly to get the colors right, but the ATI software makes that easy. The only negative is the stand. Bought Ergotron's Neoflex stand to get the monitor to position at useful height as well as rotate to a landscape orientation.

3 out of 5 stars A Little Less Than I Expected.......2007-05-30

I purchased the 206BW from Amazon and I have been using it for a couple of weeks now. I also bought an Ergotron desk clamp arm for the monitor which works really well with the product.

I was replacing a 15" NEC 1024x768 MultiSync 1530V. I view and work with a lot of photographs and needed much more screen real estate for Photoshop, along with other software that needs room for toolbars.

I use a 24" Dell UltraSharp 2405FPW at work and really like it. The only disappointing aspect about the Dell is the dot pitch. The contrast ratio is 1000:1 and the response time for the Dell is 12ms. This will give me a reference to describe my experiences with the Samsung 206BW.

I decided to purchase the 20" Samsung for three reasons. One, I like the smaller dot pitch of around .25 millimeter pixel pitch. The 22" version has the same resolution of 1680 x 1050 and I didn't want the larger pixels. The second reason was that the 206BW appeared to be marked down significantly more. It looks like it was originally sold for around $500. And third, the 3000:1 contrast ratio was very appealing to me. I love deep blacks. My Dell at work has a black level that looks like the monitor is off. If the screen consists of completely black pixels, I can't tell if it is off or on. I love that.

So I purchased the 206BW without ever seeing it in a showroom.

First of all, I'll get this out of the way... the noise this monitor makes at custom levels is an issue. I have a noisy computer in the first place, and I can clearly hear the buzzing this monitor makes when I lower the brightness. It's loud.

Which leads to the custom settings this monitor wants to use. You can cycle through these settings by pushing one of the front buttons. The settings are Text, Internet, Game, Sport, Movie, and Dynamic Contrast. I am not sure how they came up with the names of these, but some are brighter and cooler, some are warmer and dimmer. You can also have a "Custom" setting that will most likely lead you to lower the brightness significantly because most of the custom settings are way too bright. But beware; lower the brightness and the buzzing starts. Doh!

Dynamic Contrast is interesting but slightly annoying. It basically adjusts the brightness and contrast depending what you have on screen. Pull up your desktop with a black background and it will dim. Pull up a photograph of a sunny day and it will brighten. Cute, but definitely not something I'll be using very often, if at all.

Now this is probably my own fault, but for some reason I was thinking that contrast ratio had something to do with black levels. I mistakenly thought that a "3000:1" contrast ratio would deliver deep blacks. It doesn't. Blacks look washed out. And along the top and the bottom of the screen there is A LOT of light bleeding through. That was another reason I bought the 20" over the 22" inch, to avoid the light bleeding at the top and bottom of the screen. Well, it's here and it doesn't look very nice at all. Especially because I prefer a black background as my wallpaper... I always see it.

The screen material itself is nice. It's the non-reflective type that will not reflect background lights or reflections. The bezel itself though, while black, is almost a complete mirror surface. It will reflect everything. The silver strip at the bottom is slightly indented and will not reflect anything.

There is not really much to the menu. It is not intuitive to navigate. And while having a complete button dedicated to it, the "auto-adjust" feature only works if you are using a RGB cable. If you are using a digital DVI cable, the button does nothing but inform you with text that the feature is not available. Doh!

There is a blue light surrounding the on/off button on the front of the monitor. The screen will go into power save mode if left on for awhile unattended, and the blue light will start flashing on and off quickly until you come back to the display and restore it from power save mode. This is not an issue for me, but beware of this is you are going to have it in a bedroom or anywhere that this might be distracting.

So overall, this monitor is nothing like my 24" Dell at work. It's just not in the same class. Given, my Dell costs about $700 and I got this one for $250. In fact, this 206BW is not even in the same class as my 15" NEC. The black levels are much worse.

So, I'll keep the monitor. I am not going to go through the hassle of returning it or swapping it. It will do. But if I had seen it in action beforehand, I would not have bought it.

The moral of this story is watch out of technical bullet-points. Sure, 2ms and 3000:1 look really tempting, but there has to be much more to it than that. My Dell has a contrast ratio of 1000:1 and a response time of 12ms and the images it displays are much better than the 206BW. Shop around and be careful. For the money I am sure you could do worse. Could you do better?

Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Great choice for price.......2007-06-13

I'm pleased with my new SyncMaster 245BW. It certainly meets my expectations. I will only use it as a computer monitor, so I don't care about the lack of more than SVGA and DVI inputs. If you're looking for more input options, then the Dell 2407WFP is a good choice (although somewhat more expensive).

I personally think 24" is a little too big for 1920x1200, but as far as I know only Apple sells a 23" display at this resolution and it is $900.

Note that this monitor has a VESA 100 x 200 mm mount on the back, so if you buy a desk mount or wall mount for it, you might also need an adapter plate. I bought the Ergotron LX [part # 45-179-195] and then found that I needed to order the adapter plate [part # 97-197-200].

5 out of 5 stars This is the 24" you've been waiting for.........2007-06-11

This is the first high quality 24" I have seen for under $500. Yes, this is one of the new 24" TN (twisted neumatic) panels, but don't let that dissuade you. The 22" TN panels have gotten a bad rap due to their poor performance, most of them have issues with bad color banding and lots of light bleeding at the edges. I should know as I have owned several 22" TN panels (mostly Viewsonic VX2235WM).

This 24" TN panel is far and away superior to any previous TN panels I have seen, it is almost laughable how bad my old 22" TN panel looks up next to this one. I would challenge you to put this 24" TN up against any of the more expensive 24" IPS or S-PVA panels and see the difference for yourself, I doubt you will be able to tell which is which unless you are using a specialized image for gamut testing or you are a graphic designer with an extremely keen eye.

The only downsides that some people may find with this monitor compared to other (usually more expensive) 24" panels are: less inputs, no portrait mode. This monitor only has VGA and DVI(+hdcp) inputs, no component or hdmi, this is not really an issue if you are using it as a computer monitor but may turn off some people who wish to hook up other media devices. Also there is no portrait mode like the other 24" samsung 244T series; however, the stand on this monitor is still extremely high quality and height adjustable.

I would very highly recommend this LCD, better yet, I'd recommend 2 or 3. Why buy a 30" when you could have 3 of these for the same price?!

5 out of 5 stars Wow!.......2007-06-09

After playing around with my wife's new laptop, with it's bright clear screen, my old clunker monitor was just never going to be the same. With trifocals, I couldn't move it close enough or make it bright enough. After visiting a store and seeking a wall full of bright, flat, bigger monitors, I knew I had to make a change. Looking at probably a dozen or more together, all playing the same thing, the Sansung stood out by far over all the other models, plus it was huge! I'm no expert on electronics, but besides standing out in the store, it was like moving from black and white television to plasma after getting it home. The price is way down on this one now, making it all the more bargain. To top it off, we used a store card with no interest for six months and don't even have to invest the whole purchase price at once. Only drawback is that there is no hard manual, and the manual on CD wasn't the easiest thing to use, but the monitor isn't that complicated anyway.

4 out of 5 stars GREAT VALUE!!!.......2007-06-01

**** UPDATED on June 11, 2007 ****

I made the decision to buy based on a direct side by side comparison (in a popular retail store) between this 24" LCD monitor vs. another same size, competing, (but much higher priced), Gateway model.

In the store both monitors were displaying an endless loop video demo via VGA inputs; there was no way at the time to test out the more purified digital DVI interfaces. Albeit, I would have preferred to see a demo of the full capability of 1920x1200 video resolution for assessing each LCDs overall quality, but at least their was a relatively equal playing field for this subjective comparison.

First and foremost, the biggest differentiator and why Samsung's monitor wins hands down, is based on the prices; after rebate, the difference is nearly $100. Plus, Samsung offers a 3 year factory warranty. Of course, as to be expected for such a substantially lower price, this monitor has fewer "extra" features - no PIP, USB ports, fancier stand, etc. But an LCD screen that rotates 90 degrees for profile mode text viewing may well be worth paying more.

Samsung's widescreen LCD is landscape only, but does have a nifty lazy-susan-like, base rotatable and height adjustable stand just like the Gateway. All LCD monitors generally have "tilt" adjustable stands as a standard feature, but lesser models often are NOT height adjusted.

Color contrast and sharpness of full color pictures, like photo images on Gateway's display, were somewhat natural looking and more pleasing to the eye. That might tend to explain the difference in price as well. Then again, maybe not, as Samsung's dynamic response time (spec'd 5ms typical) was immensely better than Dell's, spec'd only millisecond slower. This obvious difference, other than the many $$$ saved, really sold me on the Samsung 245BW!!!

I noticed this difference during a fast transient in the displayed image during the endless loop video demo. When an advertiser's large block white lettering on the displays quickly became superimposed with another, the Gateway image momentarily degraded becoming significantly blurred. Response times were SIGNIFICANTLY more noticeable than merely a one millisecond difference in the specs might otherwise suggest.

Dynamic response times are generally quite important certainly for digitally sourced video game applications, as well as viewing HD action movies on an LCD display screen. Larger HDTV LCDs costing far more than either of these monitors, have the same tendency to blur during fast moving image changes. However, less savvy consumers probably don't pay close enough attention to even notice the momentary degradation effects. This is the one characteristic of all LCD displays that vary widely, and usually the higher the price, the less degradation can be visually detected by the naked eye. No so, in the case of these two monitors, so let the buyer beware.

The smeared fast moving imagery on the Gateway LCD stood out like a sore thumb, and that was all I needed to declare the Samsung victorious in this apples to apples, or is it apples to oranges, comparison.

I initially set up my 245BW to display the output of an Xbox 360 Elite, through a six foot long, HDMI to DVI cable. I set the video resolution of the Xbox to its highest possible resolution (1920 x 1080) and started out going through the various dashboard panes, and played a few hi-res games. I could not detect any dead pixels anywhere on the LCD. Then, I watched a standard anamorphic widescreen DVD with 2.35:1 aspect ratio and of course, thin black bars showed up on the top and bottom of the screen. Unlike many HDTVs, unfortunately without any aspect ratio controls, nor any way to stretch or expand the picture, the black bars were my constant companion throughout the movie. However, in all truthfulness, after a while, I did not even notice them anymore.

There was (thankfully) no blurred images noticeable during the movie. On the downside, I noticed quite a bit of bleed-thru on a totally black (static) picture image, especially in a dimly lit room lighting situation. I tried adjusting down the brightness and contrast to make this effect slightly less noticeable, which did not really help. This is the 245BW LCD's only perceptible flaw, but for the price paid, I did not find objectionable.

The 245BW comes with a minimalist power cord, VGA and DVI interface cables, and installable PC drivers and full instruction manual provide on a CD-ROM. For initial user set up, a bare bones (foldout) Quick Setup Guide is included as well.

This monitor was easy to set up and go through the various OSD menus to personalize for individual preferences. I have not yet had a chance to load and try out the video drivers, but am planning to use the 245BW with Vista Ultimate on a new HP Pavilion, Duo Core, Multimedia TV PC with a good quality graphics card with DVI. According to Samsung, the 245BW is already Vista Home Premium "Certified".

Bottom line . . . , the 245BW is a very high quality, still not perfect, monitor. The LCD picture looks great and is surrounded by an elegant looking, glossy black bordered bessel. It's color and image fidelity may suffer only slightly compared to somewhat higher priced model, but at Amazon's selling price of $525 (plus 15 bucks for shipping), the Samsung 245BW is certainly a terrific value and will more than meet expectations from 90% of all home computer consumers.

This monitor really has all the "right stuff" where it counts, so perhaps deserves more kudos than given in this review. If Amazon's website let me give 4.5 stars, I would. Better yet, just BUY IT and see how good it is for yourself!!!

5 out of 5 stars Great picture.......2007-05-25

I upgraded from a Samsung 215TW. Having 30% more screen area ((24^2 - 21^2) / 21^2 = ~30%) and full HDTV res is very nice. If you have a PC HDTV tuner like I do a 24" widescreen like the 245BW is ideal. Both DVI and VGA cables are included. The monitor is surprisingly light for its size. Gaming works well too. Buy one!

4 out of 5 stars Samsung 24" 244T LCD monitor.......2007-06-27

The display certainly presents images with extreme clarity. This is very valuable when doing on screen photo manipulation. I did find the adjustment tools that come with the monitor to be confusing. In addition, LCDs are much brighter than CRTs and despite monitor calibration, I have found it frustrating getting the tonal range and contrast of my photo print output to match the image I see on the screen. There is definitely a different workflow with these monitors.

5 out of 5 stars Everything I wanted in a 24" monitor.......2007-06-08

This monitor is great because it has superb brightness, the viewing angle allows it to be watched from around the room, and the stand is very flexible and makes the monitor easy to use. I'm also happy there are so many inputs, which can allow a DVD player to be hooked up to this device. Good value for money. If you are less concerned with having a good stand, I'd recommend the Acer which is cheaper but less flexible.

5 out of 5 stars 24" makes a world of difference.......2007-05-24

I'm spolied for life. In my office I have (2) 19" monitors and was feeling a little cramped up at home so I went researching large'ish monitors for my personal system...I couldn't be happier.

I did a considerable amount of research, and utlimately it came down to the Dell 24" or the Samsung. Doing a little price comparing, I found a great deal on this, and decided to give it a shot.

The image clarity and color is everything I had hoped for...not to mention the enormous view you get with 24" of real estate. I have yet to try the PIP feature. so I can't saw for certain how that fairs.

The only niggle I have...the drivers & utils from the Samsung website (and the provided disk) haven't been too happy with my system - Windows Vista Home Premium on an HP Pavillion DV600T. Not sure who the culprit is, but to be honest, the pivot feature isn't something I'd use more than a couple of times and the ability to set the monitors options from my keyboard (as opposed to the button on the bottom of the bezel) isn't that critical either.

To summarize: great connection options, excellent picture and a great price...a winning combo.

4 out of 5 stars Not the best gaming monitor.......2007-05-22

I am still getting used to the whole Rectangle thing.. I loved my true 22in flat CRT.. But it is going out on me.. So I looked around and it was a toss up between this and that 22in Flat panel with the 3000:1 contrast ratio with a 2ms responce time.. (I could have bought 2 of those for what I paid for this) But this is not a negative review.. I really have come to enjoy what I have.. it's completly different from anything I have ever experienced.. I absolutly love the 90 degree angle ability to read ebooks and long word documents.. I have now been scouring the internet looking for native resolution backgrounds.. I can easily read documents for editing and Video is good too.. I can keep 3 windows open and have them all good size all while watching.. I Love that..
But the whole rectangle is something to get used to.. I was unprepared for that.. and pictures look squaty.. like they were squished.. I don't like that either..

5 out of 5 stars Great quality.......2007-05-21

It's a great monitor for graphic applications (very good resolution an imagen definition). Unnecesary and to expensive for other uses.

5 out of 5 stars Harold Skyles.......2007-05-13

I had a 17 inch dell monitor and it quit on me. I was looking for something similar to replace it with. The 720n fit the bill. The picture is crisp and clear. The colors are outstanding, and the price can't be beat.I am very happy with my purchase and will continue to shop at Amazon.

5 out of 5 stars love it!.......2007-05-06

replaced my big ole' gray whale of a monitor with this slim, black one.
Sharp and crisp - I love it! Highly recommend it.

5 out of 5 stars Perfect Monitor.......2007-03-22

I couldn't believe how lightweight this monitor is, and how easy it was to connect to my computer. It is one of the best investments I have made this year. What a difference the LCD screen makes for my vision. Its wonderful. I highly recommend this monitor to anyone who is looking for something easy to connect and have excellent quality as well. It is the perfect monitor for me!

3 out of 5 stars buy the 206bw.......2007-03-11

the Samsung 206bw is a newer version of this monitor. cost is comparable. image quality should be better.

5 out of 5 stars Good LCD monitor for the price........2007-02-24

This LCD monitor is an excellent buy. Good contrast with height adjustment. No dead pixels. But if you are using it mainly for text, EIZO will be a better choice. I put the two monitors side by side and I could tell the difference. There is a power button next to where you attach the power cord to the LCD monitor. Remember to turn THAT power button on or you may find yourself looking at a dead monitor. I have 3 LCD monitors on my desk and this Samsung monitor presents the best value. I am very happy with this Samsung monitor and I'd buy another one after I replace my desk.

3 out of 5 stars poor image quality.......2007-02-10

This monitor is great value of you don't really care about the accuracy of color. It's quite bright and has great contrast though it has an occasional faint swarming grain that does not go away with auto-adjust. You may or may not notice the grain. I tried for over an hour to get the colors calibrated and eventually gave up. It has a few pre-defined color profiles and they are all useless and wildy inaccurate. Colors are bright and over-saturated because they are clipped so it's pretty, just not accurate.

For games and text it's probably great but side-by-side with a good quality LCD you can definitely tell the difference. I would pass on this one if you do any photo editing or create graphics people are going to look at on other monitors.

5 out of 5 stars Great LCD!.......2006-12-06

This is the first LCD monitor I have owned. The widescreen format is great, you can have more windows open. I upgraded from a 19" CRT and the color and brightness are much better. Also, it is alot clearer. I didn't buy from Amazon, but paid about the same. My only complaint is one dead pixel just off the middle of the screen. It isn't noticable most of the time; I usually only see it when the screen image is dark. Otherwise, I could not be happier!
