I bought this TV at Sears, not at Amazon, and I paid $199 for it. What a great value! Contrary to the other two reviews posted for this TV, I think this is an exceptionally high-quality television. The picture is crystal clear and the sound couldn't be better. I replaced an old 13" CRT TV with this beautiful device and wow, what a difference. You can't really go wrong for the price...I fully recommend picking one up.

A decent TV, but bad sound.......2007-04-22

I bought this TV from Costco, not Amazon. I was looking for a small, energy-efficient TV to use in my office for times that I work in there. As such, picture quality wasn't that important to me, but this TV does look good and I am satisfied with it. I am not an audiophile/videophile, so I am easy to please. It's not an HDTV, but I didn't need that.

However, it's clearly a very bottom-of-the-line TV in features. There are few features and options available on the menu. The $99 CRT TV it's replacing had far more features. There are only 3 video options for color tone (warm/cool/normal) backlight (bright/normal/dark) and a brightness slider.

The first thing I noticed plugging this TV in was how tinny and weak the sound was. There was no discernable bass, and the sound quality from the TV speaker was very poor. I get better sound out of the cheapo radio I use at work. I was considering returning it, as I listen to it more than I watch it, but I hooked up some PC speakers to the headphone jack, plugged in the subwoofer of that speaker set, and now it sounds great. Unless you're willing to do this, though I would not recommend this TV.

It's ok if you want a simple 15" tv with a few extra inputs.......2007-04-15

The monitor works well, the picture is good, I've had it maybe 6+ months and bought it for the office. I hooked it up to a cable and did a quick scan and it worked.. BUT when i tried to connect it to a HD ant, I found that it wouldn't pick up HD without an external tuner. This is the reason for the 3-Star rating - to me any 'monitor' that requires an external HD tuner, isn't HD. For me this is nothing more than a flat panel monitor with a standard tuner and few extra connections (something you can find at any computer store). I probably should give it a high rating since I haven't had a problem with it along with the fact that it only cost me about $100 (refurbished).

Hmmm, what did I miss?.......2007-01-16

Maybe with time this will work itself out...but right now, I can't seem to get the darn thing to work well. Granted I live in a place where there is no cable; granted the instructions are written so small I can hardly read them. I'm not finding it easy to get this TV to work well! It's difficult to even get the color right when I'm watching a DVD... Oh well, maybe I'll edit this in a few weeks. I'm a little disappointed...

Television Not Advertised as Refurbished.......2007-01-15

I received my Magnavox 15" LCD screen television and gave it as a gift to my spouse for Christmas. I installed two days after Christmas and my spouse noticed a spot on the screen. I called the online store I purchased from through Amazon and they were very pleasent. They would issue an RA for the television to go back. I had already disposed of the packaging and I expressed concern for shipping the item back as I did not have the original shipping container. I asked if they could just send me a new Television, charge my card and I could then send the old TV in the shipping container of the new TV. They would not do this. I am stuck with the old TV and the Pixel dot on the screen due to this fact. As a customer, I am dissatisfied due to the fact the online store would not work with me even though I was willing to charge a second television on my card so I would have the proper shipping container to send the old TV back.

Perfect little TV for my office.......2007-01-06

I received it as a Christmas gift and I'm thrilled with it. I took it out of the box, hooked it up to basic cable service, programed the remote control using the on-screen guide, and I was watching my favorite cable news shows in less than 20 minutes.

I've had no problems whatsoever with sound or picture. Be realistic in your expectations. If you want a home theater with surround sound and big screen HD-quality, well then, go out and spend $5,000. If what you want is a simple little home office TV to catch the news, weather, sports and maybe a favorite prime-time show while working in your office, this 15" TV is ideal. Don't listen to the whiners.

I am experiencing similiar problems as some of the other posts - vertical lines appearing on the picture, the entire picture starts to shift down the screen, and for the few secons the picture locks in, it's purple. have the tv for about 9 months, i doubt i'll find the receipt, just gonaa toss the set.

TV worked ok for about 9 months. It's in my home office, so I barely use it. Picture quality was not that good, even when playing HD channels through a Motorola hi-def box. In fact, I ended up taking the hi-def box out and just connecting the coax to the monitor, because the picture wasn't that good - especially compared to a similiar Samsung monitor I have in my kitchen. Anyway, just fired it up, and I am experiencing similiar problems as some of the other posts - vertical lines appearing on the picture, the entire picture starts to shift down the screen, and for the few secons the picture locks in, it's purple. I thought it might be the cable signal, but it's the same signal that is powering my Samsung DLP, which is not having any problems. Unfortunately, it has the same problem when I tried to play a DVD to it, so I think it is toast. You get what you pay for...

Tv was ok if it still worked!.......2006-12-27

We purchased this TV the day after thanksgiving 2005 and it was a Christmas present so it was not even taken out of the box until 12/25/05. We put this in our bedroom so it has not been used much - maybe 12 hours in the past year. The other day when we turnedit on the picture was there for about 2 seconds then slid down the screen untill it was gone and all you could see was vertical lines - if yo uchange the channell the picture would come back for 2 seconds and do the same thing. I spent a lot of time holding for CS with polaroid and received nothing! Unfortunately we were just outside of the 1 year warranty but I thought maybe they woul dmake an exception since it was so close and pretty obvious that it was a xmas present because of the time of year but NO Luck! We are now going to take it to a local repair store and pay $45 to see if it can be fixed reasonbly. I am very dissappointed. I do think the at the TV was alright for what we used it for when it did work.

this tv is good.......2006-12-05

i don't know why this tv got a bad rating. the picture quality is amazing even when using the coaxial cables. the sound is mediocre, but plugging in comuter speakers fixes the problem.

my suggestion for the people complaining about picture quality is to buy a hd tuner for $200 (but cheaper on ebay) to get true over the air hdtv.

If you are hooking this unit up by coaxial cable don't bother. The picture contrast is an awful, blurry mess. I am returning it today. Garbage.

Great Moniter.......2006-09-15

This is a really great moniter. It has a nice crisp image for all of those people who love the picture. Great size if you want a great moniter in a small space. It can turn and tilt on the stand if you want it to. Perfect if you want to have it just the right place for your body. Nice speakers built right in to reduce the clutter even further. You can change the system volume right from the moniter. Has built in headphone jack on the underside right by the power button. It can automaticaclly adjust the screen to fit the moniter perfectly.
It has a menu where you can control brightness, contrast, color, language, and much much more. It has a factory reset option so that you can reset it to the way it was at the beginning. Overall a great efficient moniter.

Blacks out after 15 months.......2006-07-21

I purchased a computer package that included the hp vs15 15" monitor. I loved it while it worked the first year. 3 months after the year warrenty, the screen started flickering for a couple of days than eventually blacked out. Contacted HP and of course they told me that there was nothing they could do except send me to a sight to find a place to get it repaired. I really expect a monitor to last longer than a year for the price that they run. Will not purchase HP again.

very nice monitor, first flat panel for me.......2006-07-15

I have had this monitor for two years now, and it is working great, no flickers, no signs of fading. My workplace (a hospital) uses almost exclusively HP monitors very similar to this, and they use them for x-rays ect. The resolution is very adequate, the size is excellent, and the adjustabilty of the monitor (up, down, and forward/back) is nice. This would be a good monitor to buy for everyday use, and is still good as a light gamer too.

[UPDATE: Exchanged monitor and has been great since]

I got this monitor for Christmas and it has lines running throught and real faint color changes. When you move the cursor or look closely you can see flickering lines throughout the display. My wife got this from Circuit City so I'll be taking it back when it opens. I tried all of the settings, installed the driver, etc. and no help. It only got worse the longer it was on. I am taking the computer to my brother's to see if his monitor works on it. Hopefully its the monitor and not the computer. It looked nice coming out of the box until I turned it on.
