SmartScan Technology
Using advanced Optical Character Recognition, SmartScan technology (patent pending) extracts key information from your receipts, such as date, amount, payment method, expense category and vendor. Integration with Other Software
NeatReceipts can export all extracted and entered information to Intuit QuickBooks, Intuit Quicken, Microsoft Money, and other accounting software (through IIF and CSV formats). Advanced Search Capabilities
NeatReceipts has advanced search capabilities that allow you to find expense reports and receipts with any combination of criteria, including time period, project or client information, total amount of expense report, total for any category or expense amount, expense purpose, payment class (billable, reimbursable, paid by company, personal, taxable), or payment type (cash, name of credit card, check).
Linking Receipts to Expenses
A high resolution image of every receipt is stored right next to its corresponding expense. This makes verification of expense reports a snap. The receipts are stored in a secure digital format, and cannot be edited once scanned in. The IRS accepts our secure digital format and this means you can throw away your tax-related receipts once they are scanned into NeatReceipts.
File Folder System
This feature helps you organize and manage your receipts and transactions easily and quickly. It's simple: the open folder is the active folder. The contents of a folder are displayed in the receipt grid when a folder is selected. You also scan into the selected folder. You can create, delete and rename folders to fit the way you work. For instance, if you file your taxes quarterly, you can create folders for each quarter nested into an annual folder. Reviewing your taxes becomes a snap; If you want to view transactions from a specific quarter, simply select that folder. If you would like to review or compare all the transactions for a year, simply select the annual folder and then click the "Include Receipts in Sub Folder" checkbox in the receipt grid.
Document Manager
Like the receipt manager, the document manager makes scanning and organization of documents simple and effective. You can attach data to a scanned document so it can be easily located days, weeks or months after you have filed it. Use this feature to keep track of and search for articles, business card, faxes, legal documents and much more.

Nice, functions, wld suggest improvements. Quicken warning........2007-07-07
BUT. The scanning only works if NeatReceipt app is running. That can be a pain. I want to scan in a small receipt and I need to launch NR, which is a bit slow. After 3 to 6 minutes, I can then scan and close. So for one or two receipts - I sit for 5 minutes waiting. It would be much easier if they'd let me do a quick-scan and come back to the application later to do my categorization, etc. Also, I seem to have problems scanning those huge doctor's receipts I get now. Not NR's problem - just be aware that full size pages DO fit, but if the paper is off in size, you might have to tweak it a bit.
Lastly, it seems to feed receipts in oddly. Now understand: it works just fine. But it feeds it in from the bottom and pulls up. When I use their mounted tray (which I attached to a cabinet right next to my PC for easy access), I tend to find myself "holding" the receipt in place longer than I want to - until it grabs it and pulls it up and starts scanning. AGain, I just look at it and think "wouldn't it have been easier to put the receipts in top first and scan down?" However, once the machine has your receipt, it does hold firmly, scans nicely, and doesn't SPIT it out at the end making you chase after falling paper! It holds it in place and is very nicely designed in that regard.
The Biz card function works great, etc.
Overall - I am VERY pleased. If the app launched quicker, or gave me a "quick scan" option - I would be as happy as a scanning-bug in a warm scanning-run.
Side note: you CANNOT import NeatReceipts into Quicken as simply as implied. This is due to Quicken disabling the QIF import functions for your checking, savings, credit card accounts. This is NOT due to NR's functionality! But I bought NR just for the Quicken interaction, and I don't have the functionality. I am hoping that NR will work around this problem and work with Quicken in the future. But if you buy it for your Quicken interface - check your version of Quicken. Quicken will not allow you to bring QIF files into your credit, checking, savings, 401k "accounts".... so you can't link up your receipts with the debit or credit cards used to purchase them. I'm disappointed about that. But again, it's on Quicken's side of the relationship, not NeatReceipts. :)
