The streetPilot "c-series" GPS navigators feature a simple touchscreen interface, with automatic route calculation to any destination. |
The 3.5-inch diagonal, 16-bit color display makes navigation a snap. |
The included database features nearly six million points of interests including hotels, restaurants, gas stations, ATMs, and attractions. |
For the ultimate out-of-the-box convenience, the StreetPilot c330 comes pre-loaded with highly detailed MapSource City Select street data. The database features an industry-leading five million-plus points of interest, including hotels, restaurants, gas stations, ATMs, and attractions. The c330's bright, 3.5-inch diagonal, 16-bit color display makes navigation a snap. The unit also features dual integrated speakers for high-quality voice prompts, and an internal lithium-ion battery for out-of-car route planning.
It's also worth mentioning that with some GPS units the manual to use them is as thick as a phone book, but it was a pleasant surprise to find that the c330's manual was very easy to use and provided many screen shots to make sure the user understood the units capabilities. If you find yourself on the road looking for addresses often and just want a GPS to tell you where to go simply and clearly than this unit was made for you.

Customer Reviews:
Great for the price.......2007-07-08
At first I was a little disappointed there was no software included that allowed me to easily upload waypoints (they call them Favorites)from my pc to the device, but since it's relatively easy to just manually create them on the device by either using an address or just browsing the map, I'm not that bothered by it. Plus, you can upload waypoints using 3rd party software.
Even though I'm a bit of a tech geek, I prefer the simplicity of the C330 over other models that may offer more features but also more complexity. This does everything I need it to do, and the interface is simple enough so that even if you haven't used it in a while, you don't need to relearn everything.
An amazing tool.......2007-07-07
We did find a few minor mistakes. At one point, the Street Pilot told us to turn left, when the restaurant we were looking for was on the right. We turned at the next street and went back. The other time was a turn onto an off ramp at the interstate. The Street Pilot told us to turn right when the ramp in the direction we needed to go was actually left. It was a clover leaf turn. I am not sure if that had anything to do with it.
All in all we are very satisfied with the Street Pilot c330. It is easy to use, easy to set, and not too large. We bought a small container to fit it down in. Each night we picked up the container and took it into the hotel with us. It was easy to transport. It also takes almost no time to boot up and start the map page. I am sure anyone buying it would be satisfied with their purchase.
Garmin c330, GPS Road map .......2007-07-07
That was until Garmin C330 came along, the product is very simple to use. Once it arrived I turned it on. And literally the on screen directions prompt you to do the rest. It is that simple.
When using it on a road trip I can trust where I am going. The device automatically, re-routes itself to continue to your destination.
Excellent product easy to use reliable. I will recommend this product to everyone I meet and know. Very Happy Consumer!
Garmin street pilot.......2007-07-07
Very slick device, but slow reception.......2007-07-07
The one draw back I've had in the last few weeks using the StreetPilot c330 is that I've found it to be slow in acquiring satellite reception. When you are lost and in a rush for a meeting, you don't have the time to wait for it to figure out where it is. And I'm using it in major US cities (Boston, New York, Cincinnati), which assumedly should have no satellite reception issues. This is probably because it's not a $1,000 device found in rental cars or at the higher end of the product line.
All in all, given the price, usability and accuracy, I am very happy.

Garmin StreetPilot c340 Traffic-Ready Vehicle GPS Navigator

ASIN: B000A5TAT2 |
Amazon.com Product Description
If you're looking for vehicle navigation that's powerful and simple to use, the Garmin StreetPilot c340 is just the ticket. Right out of the box, this unit helps you make the right turns wherever your travels take you. With an easy-to-use touchscreen interface, text-to-speech voice commands, a brilliant display that shows the way with 2D or 3D animations, and a massive points of interest database, the c340 has all the basics covered. Plus, you'll find some great additional features that make it a must-have companion.
Look Mom, no buttons! Garmin has taken simplicity to a new level with the c340. |
Finding your way with the c340 starts with inputting a location on the touch screen. Next, the unit's text-to-speech feature speaks to you just like a back seat driver, telling you the names of streets and when to turn and in what direction. And if you happen to miss a turn--don't worry, the c340 automatically calculates a new route to your destination. Audible and visual navigation instructions and warnings help you navigate more quickly while keeping your eyes on the road. You can also choose between a 3D mapping perspective or 2D overhead view.
The c340 offers clear, easy-to-read 3D directions. |
Garmin really kicks the power of the c340 up a notch with the addition of real-time traffic information. This optional service will display congested areas on a color-coded map, allowing you to avoid traffic by simply pushing a button that calculates a new route. All this wizardry is made possible by the new Garmin GTM 10 receiver that connects to the c340 and other select Garmin products. Note that while the GTM 10 receives digital data from specific FM broadcast stations in select major metro areas throughout the United States and Europe, note that these traffic services are available only in select cities where coverage exists. The service requires the GTM 10 FM TMC traffic receiver and, in some cases, a subscription to enable these traffic capabilities.

Customer Reviews:
Street pilot C340.......2007-07-08
Almost Perfect.......2007-07-05
Weak excuse for a GPS.......2007-07-05
PROS:
-Colorful maps
-Spoken street names
-Great POI database
CONS:
-Route customization DOES NOT EXIST: This was the reason I bought and sold the unit within 2 weeks, you CANNOT customize or alter the route in any way you want! You either take the route you get or do a detour feature but you CANT calculate alternative routes, avoid certain streets, take certain streets, this is very annoying when you want to find more than one way to a place.
-Horrible Re-Routing: I tested this unit on a 125mile road trip, when I missed an exit it took 10 MINUTES to re-route me! Luckily I knew the road otherwise I would have to pull over and wait for the unit to help. I think this is due to the fact that the distance was so long. BTW the unit took atleast 3 to 4 minutes to initially route the trip (Tom Tom One takes about 1 and half minutes).
-Routes given by c340 often take you on very trafficy streets (bad routes that are longer and slower than necessary) this is in comparison with the awesome routes Google Maps give.
-Unit takes 3 to 4 minutes to find satellites: this sucks because you sit in the car and cant drive anywhere until satellites are found, i found this inexcusable.
-Signal loss happens very easily: any obstruction to the unit causes it to lose the satellite reception, (unlike the Tom Tom One which can hold a signal IN DOORS!)
-Annoying Avoid Tools feature: unlike Tom Tom which asks each time you take a route with tools, whether to avoid tools or not. Garmin makes you select a feature in the settings menu, so every time you want to avoid tools you must go to the settings, set the avoid tolls on, and then re-route your current route. VERY ANNOYING!
My First GPS.......2007-07-05
It's simple, without a lot of bells and whistles I didn't need, but it does have the text-to-speech, which I definitely wanted. So far, it's worked like a charm. Sometimes in the middle of a lot of buildings crowded together, or inside a building, it takes maybe 2 mins. to get a signal, but I would think that's a situation you'd have with *any* GPS. I drove through a very long, deep "under the runway" tunnel and it only lost signal 3/4 of the way through - that impressed me. I would recommend this simple, neat unit to anyone.
Good Investment .......2007-07-04

Great GPS unit but...........2007-07-05
I love what she has to say!.......2007-07-03
delay's when traveling. Bluetooth works well except the volume needs to be loud enough to understand which makes it distracting when driving. Now in California you need hands free device for cell phones. I love the design and mounting features as well.
Great GPS!.......2007-06-29
Right out of the box it is ready, willing, and able to go. I needed it a day after I got it. I plugged in the address, portions of the address really, it filled in the rest, gave me a choice for multiple addresses, and, BAM, got me going in under a min. As a consultant, I'm always going to new locations around the Puget Sound and even Portland areas. This device makes it SO easy to get where I need to go without the worry of printing out online maps.
However, that does not mean it doesn't have some flakiness to it. The Bluetooth seems to have some weirdness about connecting and being connected to. It has disabled itself several times. On one occasion, it disconnected itself right after I hung up a call. Another thing that Amazon STILL has not updated is their web site in recommending the car adaptor when you buy the c550. First off, you don't need one for car because it comes with one. Second, is the fact it is the WRONG adaptor. As stated in another reviewers review. What makes it even worse; I had to pay to send the adaptor back.
However, overall, this is a great product and I couldn't really be any happier. No longer do I need to GoogleEarth or Mapquest a location, print it out, and then read it while I'm driving the road.
Doesn't get much better!!!.......2007-06-27
I wish that my brand new Garmin worked........2007-06-24

C320 Garmin StreetPilot.......2007-06-18
Outstanding, but there are better Garmin Units Now.......2007-06-17
I use it even in areas where I know where I do not need directions. The reason is because I found that POIs come in very handy when I want a new place to eat or need to call ahead. I use it mostly for for locating resteraunts or calling in To-Go orders if I'm in a hurry.
Loading maps is as easy as sending email but the supplied SD card is a bit small if you travel across many states. I bought a very inexpensive 2g SD card and loaded the entire US with room to spare. Now that I have the US loaded I expect to never touch the card again and have since deleted the maps from my computer.
The only two complaints I have with this unit are the screen and suction mount.
The screen must be tilted down away from the sun to see it. Thanks to the voice turn by turn instructions I find it is not necessary to see it, but I do wish it were brighter.
The suction mount failed after only a few months. I opted for a friction mount from Amazon and couldn't be happier. It is easy to move from car to car and stays where I put it.
As good as it is I'm giving it 4 stars because of the mount and less than bright screen. If you can find it at a good price and decide to get it you will receive a nice and very capable unit that will serve you well. However, Garmin has the 330 and 340 now which are basically the same unit but have pre-loaded maps and the 340 reads the streets for you. If money is a concern get the 320. Otherwise, go with the 330 or 340 but be ready to accept the screen and suction mount issues. You won't get a brighter screen unless you pony up quite a bit more cash, or decide to go with another brand and risk trading off some features and getting a smaller POI database.
Good product with flaw.......2007-06-14
There are only two cons: It won't work when air temperature is below 50. Searching could be very slow sometimes. Otherwise, it would be excellent. Highly recommended for general user.

The c330 keeps track of places that you find and stores the fifty most recent finds in an easy to access list called Recent Selections, placing the most recently viewed at the top of the list. This becomes a very helpful feature if you visit the same places over and over and don't want the inconvenient of reloading the information in the unit multiple times. Although the c330 boasts distinctive and sleek styling, simplicity is the name of the game. The only buttons are a rotary volume knob and an on/off switch. The device is secured by a suction-mount cradle that fastens to the windshield for easy portability between vehicles. You can customize the unit's appearance with an array of colored faceplates that are sold separately.

The intuitive icon-based navigation system makes the c330 easy to use right out of the box. |

At the heart of the StreetPilot c550 is a high-sensitivity WAAS-capable GPS receiver by SiRF that provides outstanding acquisition times and the ability to maintain a strong signal under heavy foliage and near city skyscrapers. This means you'll always know precisely where you are. Meanwhile, an automotive-grade, sunlight-readable, 2.8 x 2.1-inches (WxH) anti-glare TFT LCD touch-screen display offers easy readability. With dimensions of 4.4 x 3.2 x 2.2-inches (WxHxD), and at about nine ounces in weight, the StreetPilot c550 features a streamlined design that will fit easily on any dashboard with the included vehicle suction mount. The unit also features Garmin Lock -- an advanced anti-theft feature that disables the unit from performing any functions until you type in a specific four-digit PIN or take the unit to a predetermined location.
The StreetPilot c550 also includes Bluetooth technology integrated with a microphone and dual speakers that lets you make hands-free mobile phone calls on a compatible Bluetooth wireless phone. You can view incoming calls on your c550, and simply tap the screen to answer. Just speak into the built-in microphone while staying focused on your driving. In addition, you can retrieve and dial numbers from your personalized phone book or the phone's call history log. You can also make calls from the more than six million points of interest database -- which includes hotels, restaurants, stores, and much more.
Another feature unique to the c550 is its integrated traffic capabilities. The c550 includes the GTM 20, an integrated FM TMC traffic receiver with a free three-month trial subscription (for U.S. customers only). The GTM 20 notifies you of traffic conditions, construction and weather delays, and automatically suggests alternative routes. The navigator also comes with preloaded maps of Europe or North America and includes automatic routing, 2D or 3D map perspective, and turn-by-turn voice directions that speak street names -- making navigation as easy as it gets. An included MP3 player lets you enjoy music from your digital collection while you drive, and an included SD memory card expansion slot means that you can load optional software, such as language and travel guides -- making travel even easier and more entertaining than ever.

First time GPS Owner - Very impressed.......2006-07-31
Update: C550 GTM 20 Blowing its Fuse
The following is a problem I am having with the GTM 20 integrated FM TMC (Traffic Message Channel) traffic receiver, antenna and cigarette lighter adapter supplied with the c550. I have reported this via email and telephone to Garmin. The Garmin Tech - who was very helpful - said this is a first and is exchanging the GTM 20 for one from the factory.
Here is the reported issue:
"The GTM 20 supplied with my new c550 blows its fuse every time I plug it into either of my vehicles, car and van, lighter outlets. The fuse blows with or when power is applied to the lighter outlet regardless of whether or not the c550 is attached. I returned my orgianl brand new c550 to Circuit City because after 2 weeks of flawless performance it started exhibiting this behavior. Now, out of the box this c550's GTM 20 is doing the same. All other 12v adapters for phone, etc work properly in both vehicles. As noted above the c550 I just returned worked perfectly for about 2 weeks, in both automobiles and now this new, out of the box c550s GTM 20 is doing the same thing."
FURTHER UPDATE:
I received the replacement GTM 20 for my c550 directly from Garmin and it is working perfectly in both vehicles, it has not blown its fuse yet.
The first GTM 20 worked for about 2 weeks, the second failed right out of the box. Both units came from the same Circuit City store.
While waiting for the replacement GTM I purchased a standard Garmin 12 volt car adapter and it works correctly in both vehicles.
I'm sure Garmin engineers designed and completely tested the GTM 20 before going to production and that in the lab and all subsequent evaluations it performed to standard. If my latest GTM 20 continues to work then I believe Garmin may have a defective lot of GTM 20s out there. If this new GTM fails after a few weeks of use then I believe there potentially may be an issue with their manufacturer.
I would encourage you to call Garmin tech support if you experience this, endure the wait - enjoy the on hold music, and report your issue. I spoke with a gentleman named Scott and he was very helpful. I did receive a response from the initial e-mail inquiry I sent their tech support and basically they said they had never heard of the problem, have a great day.... Telephone was the way to go.
WOW!!.......2006-06-29
Traffic receiver, a necessity in metro. city. For $5/month, this system shows you ways around traffic you never thought existed.
Navigation so VERY easy to use, can't imagine how I lived without it!!
This is a MUST BUY!!
