1 out of 5 stars samlar.......2004-12-05

Got second 5800 from amazon today after the first one would only blink the ready light at me and had parts loose inside. Second unit same thing to start with the ready light blink all the time and per micortek site to fix this unplug and then replug unit.
Did this many times on first unit no help on second unit it did start working after unpluging and repluging many times. Know it slows down xp starting so much that it takes forever to do anything on the computer unless I unplug the USB from the sanner. Also turned the unit off again and had the same problem of blinking ready light. Sent Microtek email but do not expect anything until monday not sure I will keep it one way another.
I do not trust the unit anymore. Also do not like the statement at Microtek site that they charge 40 dollars if you send one back still under warranity if there tech does not find anything.
Think I will go to hp unit.

4 out of 5 stars Another winner from Microtek.......2004-10-18

I've used a number of Microtek scanners (see my other reviews on the 5950 and the i320), and this one is a winner. High quality scans, nice convenience features, and reasonable speed, all at a bargain price. Scan quality straight out of the box is good, but you should tweak the custom settings to obtain the best scans possible. The ScanWizard software is superb, so take the time to learn what it can do.

Although the 5800 is great for normal flatbed scanning functions, don't expect much from the included LightLid 35 transparency adapter. Microtek has been offering this accessory for years now, but it has never been able to produce acceptable results. If you really want to scan film negatives or slides, look for something else.

The scanner deserves 5 stars on its own, but I'm deducting one star for Microtek pretending that the LightLid 35 is useful.

1 out of 5 stars Scanmaker 5800.......2004-05-30

Really can't say much except that it would lock up my XP computer. Contacted Microtek by e-mail, got no response.
Returned it to Amazon.

3 out of 5 stars Easy but Slow.......2004-01-28

Fine scanner...always liked the ScanWizard software Microtek provides. Easy to use. But it's slow. Over 30 seconds to scan one black and white page at 300dpi. And it has this droning sound that vibrates your nerves - you practically have to leave the room until the page is done. Not recommended and poor Microtek site for not providing performances specs on this scanner. But for $100, what did I expect?

5 out of 5 stars Buttons Buttons and More Buttons.......2003-10-10

I was looking for something easy and I mean EASY to use. I asked the local store guy and he suggested this. It has 7 buttons on it, so i just put down my picture and press the button and it appears on my desktop. So far I like what I have bought. I bought the extended warranty as well for $10 but looks pretty solid so far. It comes with this attachment thing to do 35mm slides but I haven't got into that so far. Packs a lot of punch for well under $100. It has the new USB but I'm not sure if I have that, ohh well something to look forward to when I do!
