The Delphi Mobile Navigation unit has 64 MB of internal memory available for storing maps, and it's compatible with optional Secure Digital (SD) and MultiMedia (MMC) memory cards for additional map storage (256 MB size or less).

What Is GPS?
The Global Positioning System (GPS) is a network of satellites launched by the U.S. military in the 1970s. The satellites continuously transmit accurate time and position information, which is freely used by commercial and military applications worldwide. GPS receivers, such as this Delphi unit, are designed to pick up the high-frequency radio signals from these satellites and use the information to help determine your exact location. Today, there are many applications that use GPS--from marine to automotive, aviation, and military.

There are 24 satellites in total, orbiting approximately 12,000 miles above the Earth. While a GPS receiver can detect signals from up to 12 satellites at any one time, only 3 are needed to provide the two-dimensional position (latitude and longitude), or "fix," that is required for vehicle and marine navigation systems. Aviation applications also need altitude, and therefore need information from at least four satellites.

Great for the money... where are the map updates.......2006-10-26

I bought mine in late 2005 and am now ready for map updates. I'd also like maps for europe so I could toss it in my suitcase... At dusk it's having a hard time finding the satellites. Sometimes it takes a couple hours. I don't understand why there is a registration process at all. We should be able to plug it in and go... All in all great... jg

The shipping came in a messy package. The car adaptor was missing. There was no way of contacting the customer service. I tried it with a converter in my car. It was amazingly accurate in giving both on-screen & voice promp directions. I didn't feel like returning it & continued to use with the DC-AC converter. The maps are great. Installation was simple.
I probably wouldn't have paid the full price...It was worth buying for $ 300.00, though it was a refurbished one.

Overall I'm very pleased with the GPS unit. It works nicely as my auto navigator. The software interface is also very easy to operate with little need to refer to the manual. The map, however, seems outdated for at least 1-2 years. There are times I was misguided because of that. I'd like to see another update on the map. I'm not sure if it's possible but if the GPS unit can take a 3rd party software it would be perfect.

not user friendly.......2005-09-09

I did not like this GPS receiver, because it was not very user friendly. The instruction booklet was of no use. I had to call the support line to be able to down load the maps, which should have been easy, but the instructions were not clear on how to do this from the booklet. The support line was a challenge also. You had to leave a message for someone to call you back, and it was like playing phone tag, beacause you had no idea when they were going to call back. Programming destination is very time consuming, because it was not touch screen.

Stop!! Don't buy remanufactured and Problems too!!.......2005-08-23

Firstly remanufactured means missing parts. I didn't have the ac adapter. Then powered it in car. Problems the maps are outdated.The software is lousy it was already registed by somebody else and no key. The unit has problems after you turn it on and then start your car, it will poweroff, so again you have to go all the startup process.The Display is big enough but not all information can be selected on the same screen.The internal memory can hold only one state, even thought the manual say one entire region. As part were missing i called Delphi to check with them and he said rudely you got from amazon, we support only I purchased from them only.
Over all this was a waste of my time and now i returning it back.
